Remedy: gas, bloating, joint pain etc + 4 more

Baba

Remedy: gas, bloating, joint pain etc

Namaskar,

Digestion is key to human health - physically and mentally, and when it is not proper one is prone to feeling irritated, anxious, and out-of-sync etc.

During the digestive process gas forms in the stomach; and, if due to poor digestion a lot of gas is generated and has no pathway out, then it rises up. This gas affects the weakest part of the body such as the joints, thereby creating gout and rheumatism. And sometimes that gas rises up to the head and creates pressure that causes headaches. This polluted air is very bad for health and creates numerous problems. Uninformed people take an analgesic to relieve the headache. But that is treating the symptom only; the cause remains untreated. The root issue is that gas in the stomach needs to be expelled. On this point Baba has given a few solutions.

Expelling gas from the body

By a simple process, numerous stomach ailments can be eliminated. This following section is a short summary of Sadguru Baba’s teachings from Senior Acarya Diary.

In bhastrikasana [and utksepa Mudrá], the stomach functions like a bellows, (bhathii); in result, gas is expelled from the body. Any gas that remains in the body rises, and people suffer from heart problems, brain issues, headaches; and, constipation is the fundamental cause. So this posture cures these health problems by expelling gas from the body. (Summary) (1)

In His above teaching, Baba is prescribing asanas and mudras to relieve a patient suffering from gas, constipation, and poor digestion.

The air is forced out of the stomach

This below photo is a bellows; it is a type of blower or bhatthii. If you bring the handles together then all the air is forced out of the black chamber and exits out through the small tip. And when the wooden handles are drawn away from each other then again the black chamber becomes full of air. Thus, by opening and squeezing the handles, air continually passes out through the bellows. It is just like any squeeze bottle; if you squeeze the main portion or body, then air comes out the end.

The above photo is of a bellows; this instrument is a tool for blowing air. By squeezing the handles together, air is forced out through the brass tip.

Gas in stomach forced out the rear

Next we examine two practices that have a special curative effect on the body and mind: utksepa mudra' and bhastrikasana.

Caryacarya states, “Utkśepa Mudrá: This mudrá should be practised in bed immediately upon waking. While lying on the back, one should flex both the arms and legs, bringing them over the chest, and then return them immediately to the extended position. After doing this three or four times, sit up in bed and drink a glass of cold water without allowing the water to touch the teeth. After this you should expose the navel area to the air, and walk up and down in this way for some time in the open air.” (2)

The physical posture looks like this:

The practice of utksepa Mudrá works in the same way as the bellows. As shown above, when the knees are brought to the chest then the stomach is compressed and any gas in the stomach will be forced out through the rear. When the flatulence passes then the person gets much relief. So long as gas remains in the stomach it will cause all kinds of problems: stomach pain, bloating, headache, joint pain, irritability, laziness, and so many other diseases. The root cause is that gas was built up in the stomach. That is why all the pathys have medicines for gas relief. But most often these drugs have horrible and very damaging side effects. Best is to avoid such medicines.

What many do not know is that the unique practice of utksepa mudrá - one of our Ananda Marga health guidelines - is very a good approach to achieve the desired result and make the stomach healthy.

Expel gas by utks’epa Mudrá’ & bhastrika’sana

In addition there is a second posture known as bhastrikasana, and that works in the same way as utksepa Mudrá. Indeed the two are very similar.

Caryacarya says, “Bhastrikásana (bellows posture): Lie on your back, and while breathing out, bend the right leg and bring the thigh into contact with the chest. Grasp the leg firmly with both hands. Maintain this position for eight seconds, holding the breath. Resume original position while breathing in. Practise similarly with the left leg, and then with both legs together. One round comprises this process with the right leg, the left leg, and both legs together. Practise eight such rounds, i.e. 8 x 3 = 24 positions.” (3)

You may have noticed that the third stage of bhastrikasana is the same as utksepa mudrá. So bhastrikasana works as a bellows - eliminating gas from the stomach just as utksepa mudrá does. They both activate the body in the same way. The chief difference is that in bhastrikasana the practitioner initially brings one leg up at a time before bringing both knees to the chest, whereas in utksepa Mudrá both legs are always engaged.

Compressing the stomach eliminates gas

The practical effect of these two postures is the same: The stomach acts as blower or bellows (bhatthii). As a result, any gas in the stomach is evacuated. And that brings a lot of relief. Ultimately, any gas in the body will eventually rise, and that can lead to heart trouble, brain issues, headaches, gas, flatulence, joints pain, irritability, laziness, bloating, stomach pain etc, and the root cause is constipation - and with it excessive gas in the stomach. So these two postures - bhastrikasana and utksepa mudrá - cure these ailments by eliminating the excess gas from the body.

By opening & squeezing handles, air continually passes

Let’s recall how these poses work and understand why they are so effective for human health. It operates just as a bellows; it is a type of blower or bhatthii. If you bring the handles together then all the air is forced out of the black chamber and exits out through the tip.

And when the wooden handles are drawn away from each other then again the black chamber becomes full of air. Thus, by opening and squeezing the handles and air continually passes through the bellows. So as squeezing the bellows evacuates air from the chamber, similar is the case with the two aforementioned yoga practices. By compressing the stomach they eliminate gas from the body.

Ultimate outcome: enhanced sadhana

Verily Baba guides us that all the practices in Ananda Marga are for enhancing one’s sadhana. By practicing these postures in both the early morning and evening, all the health issues related with excess gas, i.e. flatulence, headache, joints pain, irritability, laziness, bloating, stomach pain etc will be a thing of the past. And we all know that when the digestive system is proper, then all major organs will be of greater vitality. With that healthy body and mind, one can do better sadhana. And it will bring all around health and happiness.

in Him,
Jaideva

Bombs ruins Parama Purusa’s creation

Prout philosophy states, “Another example of how human beings destroy the inanimate world is the repeated detonation of atomic bombs. Atomic explosions create huge craters and large underground caverns in the crust of the earth. They produce dark clouds in the atmosphere and devastate the ecological balance of the environment. The inanimate world is the creation of Parama Puruśa. By exploding atomic weapons human beings are wounding the psychic projection of Parama Puruśa, and this will seriously affect the ecological balance of the earth.” (1)

What does one feel after death

Ananda Marga ideology states, “The Christian and Muslim ideas of heaven and hell and also svarga in Hindu Karmakandii Jaemini Partná, were derived from the fact that the samskáras which determine the requitals of actions exists exits in this loka. In reality no kośa will remain after death. The samskáras remains as the object of the átman. Thus the ideas of heaven and hell of the Hindu, Christian and Muslim mythologies are completely false, because after death there remains no mind at all to experience heaven or hell." (1)

The mind is incapable of doing anything without the brain. And after death there is no brain, so the bodiless mind remains dormant. It cannot do or experience anything: no pain, no pleasure, nothing. The whole notion of one enjoying the fruits of heaven or the tortures of hell after death is bogus.

It is a complete myth that people go to heaven or hell. After death the mind is dormant. And that is what is expressed in the above quote. Here we should understand that pain and pleasure are experienced in this world, not after death. So-called heaven and so-called hell are here in this world.

Dharma vs religion

Ananda Marga philosphy states, “One thing should be remembered: Dharma and religion – or “Imán” and “majhab” in Arabic – are not synonymous. Throughout the ages, Dharma or Imán has been propagating teachings to unite humanity. Religions are many, but Dharma is one, and that Dharma is Manava [[Human]] Dharma – a system for the attainment of the Supreme. Based on practical wisdom and logical faith, Dharma is a rational approach for the realization of Absolute Truth. External paraphernalia are not required for the practice of Dharma: the only prerequisite is a unit mind. Within     Dharma there is no room for exploiting people entrapped in the snare of blind faith, and no scope for self-aggrandisement or the pursuit of group interests.” (1)
