Types of peace: bad to beneficial + 3 more

Baba
Types of peace: bad to beneficial

Namaskar,

A woman in an Indian household does not raise her voice against her abusive husband due to social pressure. The husband may take out his frustrations by beating his wife and children. Due to fear and respect for the dogmatic social norms, the wife tolerates her husband’s cruel behavior quietly. From the outside, the household may appear quiet and peaceful as there is no fight. That is static peace. Should such a morbid and static quietness be accepted as desirable peace? According to Ananda Marga ideology, ta’masikii sha’nti (static peace) is not desirable.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Three types of sha’nti (peace)

According to Ananda Marga teachings, there are three types of sha’nti (peace), namely, (1) ta’masikii (static) sha’nti, (2) sa’ttvikii (sentient) sha’nti, and (3) parama’ sha’nti (perfect peace).

Prout philosophy states, “The cry, “Peace! Peace!” has become a craze in the world today. Can anything be achieved by such cries? There is no way to establish peace except to fight against the very factors which disturb peace.” (1)

#1: Ta’masikii sha’nti / static peace

If the voice of agitation is forcefully smothered during a struggle against exploitation, then the struggle ceases. This cessation of struggle is caused by the victory of the avidyá (negative) forces over vidyá (positive) forces. Many mistakenly think that peace has been achieved as all the noise of struggle has ended. However, this so-called peace is only temporary peace and is ta’masikii sha’nti (static peace).

For instance, consider a situation in any factory wherein there is a serious inequity in wages and the workers only earn 1 dollar per day while the CEO makes 300 times that amount. It is natural that the workers may stop work to agitate for fair wages. The management may call the police to handle the ensuing unrest, and the police may beat up the agitators, or worse, open fire and kill a few of them to intimidate the rest and stop the movement. After this, the intimidated workers may return to work and it may be reported that peace has been restored. And yet the undercurrent of exploitation remains unaddressed. That is static peace.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

#2: Sa’ttvikii sha’nti / sentient peace

When the force of vidyá (positive force) defeats the force of avidyá (negative force), there also the struggle ends. The peace thus obtained is called sa’ttvikii sha’nti (sentient peace). Bringing about sentient peace requires a great deal of effort. This is a desirable situation of peace in collective life.

#3: Parama’ sha’nti / absolute peace

The struggle between avidyá (negative force) and vidyá (positive force) is perpetual. There may be a temporary cessation of struggle from time to time and in different places. If vidyá (positive force) wins we say that sentient peace has been established while if avidyá (negative force) wins then we say static peace has been established. However, these victories are temporary and neither sentient nor static peace is permanent. Permanent relief is possible only with absolute peace. Absolute peace is possible only when one develops bhakti and ensconces their mind in Parama Purus’a.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Static peace is de-facto standard today

Unfortunately, a vast majority of the general public advocate superficial ta’masikii sha’nti. People try to quiet the commotion without investigating and addressing the main cause. If noise is coming out of a household due to the husband beating his wife then it is a sin not to intervene and stop the exploitation. Most people simply tell the husband and wife to maintain peace by not making noise but don’t try to find out the main cause. By asking the husband and wife not to make noise, an attempt is made to establish static peace. Often, parents yell at their fighting children to maintain silence without discriminating between who is the main troublemaker. In such cases, the parents are setting a bad example by establishing static peace. The correct approach is to find the main cause and rectify it. Such an approach may be more difficult, but the peace thus obtained is sentient and the preferred outcome.

Absolute peace only possible in individual life

Both ta’masikii (static) and sa’ttvikii peace are temporary in nature as the notion of such peace is applicable only in the scope of this world which is a relative reality. The created universe is a relative reality, and there cannot be absolute peace on this relative plane. One can accomplish absolute peace in one’s individual life, but not in collective life. Thus, as sa’dhakas, our goal should be to establish sa’ttvikii sha’nti (peace) in the collective sphere, while seeking Parama’ sha’nti in our individual lives.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

Many times people think that putting an end to a commotion by smothering the struggle against injustice and exploitation is the way to bring peace. However, in such cases, the exploitation and injustice remain unaddressed, and the peace thus obtained is ta’masikii sha’nti / static peace. Ta’masik peace is not permanent, and we should strive for sentient peace in our collective lives. In our individual lives, however, we should strive for Parama’ Sha’nti (absolute peace), as that alone is permanent.

Prout philosophy states, “The cry, “Peace! Peace!” has become a craze in the world today. Can anything be achieved by such cries? There is no way to establish peace except to fight against the very factors which disturb peace.” (1)

What to do when fight breaks out

When any fight erupts, those onlookers have a specific duty according to our AM  ideology. In this case, every Ananda Margii should know what should be done.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

This following is the English summary of the Bangla teaching (Bha’rata, Tantra A’r Ta’ntrika, GD 1966, Calcutta):

Here is a case example: Tom was beating Dick. Hearing this, Harry came and cried out, “Why are you two fighting and beating each other. Stop quarreling! Live together peacefully.” No doubt, Harry’s words are very sweet. But this type of sweet talk has no value. It is useless and worthless. The proper thing is for Harry to find out who the real culprit is: Dick or Tom. If it is found that Tom is the culprit then it is appropriate to immediately support Dick and arrange proper punishment for Tom. This is the only path in Tantra.

If this is not done, and you only say, “Do not quarrel - do not quarrel, live together peacefully, and stop fighting”, then the next day you will find that Tom beat Dick even more severely. This demonstrates that Harry’s attempt at an intervention - i.e. spread the holy water of peace, peace, peace - was completely fruitless. And this will only further convince Tom that he can have his way with Dick without any retribution. So Tom’s audacity will grow exponentially and he will again beat Dick mercilessly. (English summary)

Absolute peace may shower only on individual

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Jiṋátvá shivaḿ shántimatyantameti. Parama Puruśa is Shiva. By knowing Him human beings can attain absolute peace. The word shánti is derived from the Saḿskrta root verb sham plus suffix ktin. Shánti means to remain absorbed in one’s own self. One can attain equanimity and equipoise of mind by knowing Parama Puruśa. This is what is called shánti.” (2)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “When the static force becomes predominant there will be peace, which is termed tamoguńii shánti [static peace]. When the sentient force dominates there will also be peace, which is called sáttvikii shánti [sentient peace]. This fight between the static and sentient forces will continue as long as the universe exists. There cannot be any absolute peace in the realm of relativity. Absolute peace may shower down in an individual’s life, but not on the collective body. When individual animation is suspended in Cosmic animation, or when individual aspiration is suspended in Cosmic aspiration, the result is absolute peace. Absolute peace in the collective body means the suspension of the universe, which is an impossibility.” (3)

“Don't quarrel”: a bogus slogan

Prout philosophy states, “The cry, “Peace! Peace!” has become a craze in the world today. Can anything be achieved by such cries? There is no way to establish peace except to fight against the very factors which disturb peace. Even in the personal life of every human being, there is a constant fight between the benevolent and the malevolent intellect, or between vidyá and avidyá. At times vidyá triumphs, while at other times avidyá wins. In social life, too, this fight between vidyá and avidyá continues. Vidyá has to fight avidyá, and in this fight wherever and as long as vidyá remains triumphant, there is a special type of peace which may be called sáttvikii shánti [sentient peace]. Similarly, wherever and as long as avidyá remains victorious in this fight, there, also, a special type of peace prevails which may be called támasikii shánti [static peace]. Thus we find that peace is actually a relative factor. Absolute or permanent peace cannot occur in collective life because the created universe, which is embedded in the process of saiṋcara [extroversion] and pratisaiṋcara [introversion] is, in fact, dominated first by Avidyá [extroversial force], and then by Vidyá [introversial force], respectively.” (4)

I have only one hope

"Tumi path bhúle yadi ele jene shune,nái bá ele, nái ba ele,
sámarthya nái kari nimantrańa,tabu yadi ele avahele..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2246)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, even if You come by mistake or because of forgetting Your path, that will be wonderful. Up until now, You haven’t had a plan to come over here. I will consider that Your fathomless grace. Because I can see that up till this moment, by Your own choice, You have not come. Baba, please be merciful and come to me. By my own merit I do not have any capacity or strength to invite You to come to me. You are my everything - my whole life is revolving around You. My Divine Entity, it is my great hope that You will come, even if by chance, or in disdain, or to discipline me for my bad conduct.

O’ My Supreme One, I want to receive You in a most ceremonial and unique manner. But I do not have a golden throne for Your majestic arrival. Nor do I have a beautiful, charming, silken dais for You. O’ my nearest One, I have not decorated Your path of arrival with alpana. My heart longs to receive and have You. Baba, I have only one hope: that You will come - even if it was not Your intention. I will consider that to be Your endless compassion.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, You know well that in this thatched hut of mine there is not an abundant amount of wealth. I do not have costly gems and jewels to display or show at the time of Your august visit - nor do I have A-grade bhakti. My dearest, with my heartfelt longing and love, I hope that at least You will bless me and come, even if that was not Your plan.

Baba, You are ever-gracious. I long for Your foot-dust. Please shower me in Your love...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #2246:

[1] A'lpana': These are the colourful motifs, sacred art, or decorative painting done on a horizontal surface (walkway, patio etc) on auspicious occasions. Those who have attended DMC might have witnessed how on the walking path across the stage leading up towards Baba's dais there are some very decorative, colourful, attractive designs. In an artistic manner there is a brilliant array of flower pollen, flower petals, or any colorful scented fragrance which are soft and upon which someone can walk comfortably. This beautiful and colourful decoration is known as a'lpana' and it is meant to pay high respect and adoration to the Divine Entity. In our Marga this is used for Baba's holy and auspicious arrival. In common social settings and religious life the general population makes such decorations for the respected Deity. It is also employed in the temples.

[2] In this above song, all the references to worldly riches and wealth such as the "golden throne" and "costly gems and jewels" represent the qualities or merits that a person achieves in life: High education, various skills & good deeds, top-level job, noble character, track record of social service etc. Those “gems and jewels” also refer to great spiritual wealth, i.e. highest devotion or parabhakti. But the sadhaka in this song does not possess any of those worldly attributions - nor does he have high spiritual longing and realisation. Hence he cannot rely upon such attributions to call Parama Purusa. So instead the sadhaka is calling Him with whatever degree of heart-felt devotion he has. This is the special scene which has been expressed in this Prabhat Samgiita.

Real formula of weapons

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Nowadays science means creating new weapons – strengthening the hands of warmongers; but the spirit of science should not be like this; and at the start, in the primordial phase of human life it was not so. Yes, there is necessity of weapons – weapons not for strengthening the hands of warmongers, but for providing security for good ideas, good thoughts, and good persons. Science should be just like art: science for service and blessedness, “Art for service and blessedness,” I said; and I say, science is also for service and blessedness. Science should always be utilized for the proper progress of human society.” (1)

Note: In the above quote Baba is guiding us that all forms of artistic expression - from music to drawing to writing-- are for elevating and serving humanity and goading the mind to more subtle thoughts. In the past nobody could conceive of this beautiful and vast idea, especially in materialistic societies where art has become a showpiece for baser propensities. That only shows why Baba's teaching is so unique.

No salvation by this route

Kindly read the below quote from Baba's teachings. At the end of the quote a question has been posed. If your answer to the question is correct then it means you read Baba's books carefully; and, if your answer is wrong or you do not know the answer, then it signifies that you need to pay more attention when reading Guru's teachings. After all, if sadhakas are not diligent in studying Baba's books then who is going to read them - non-margiis?

Here then is the quote:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "There are some people who die after fasting for thirty or forty days. The members of their community think that they have attained salvation thereby, but one cannot attain salvation by fasting in this way." (1)

Question: Who is Baba referring to in the above quote?

--

Answer: Both Vinoba Bhave and Balak Brahmacari fall in this category. They both died after extended fasts, and in both cases their followers thought they had attained supreme realisation (moksa), but in His above teaching Baba informs us otherwise.

Verily, so many have passed in this way - especially monks have died from long fasts and their followers believe they got moksa. That is a misnomer within the Hindu religion.

If due to lack of food one attained salvation, then what about all those in economically destitute nations who have starved to death such as during terrible famines. Did they too all attain moksa?

Always feel His bliss + 3 more

Baba
Always feel His bliss

Namaskar,

In very clear words Baba is guiding us that those who adopt the path of materialism can never achieve the stance of peace or bliss. Rather, their lives will always be full of frustration and misery.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The characteristic (dharma) of the mind is to seek the infinite. The mind attains this goal by concentrating on a particular ideation. As material objects are finite, those who accept them as the aim of life eventually feel frustrated. They fail to attain bliss because neither wealth nor material objects can be enjoyed infinitely." (1)

Two special techniques

To counteract the ill-effects of materialism and goad the mind towards pure spirituality, in His discourse, Baba has given two very unique points:

(a) keep the mind fixed on the goal (Ista) of life; and,
(b) do abhidhyana intermittently throughout the day.

In this way, we will always feel His bliss.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba’s query: What do you want?

Baba questioned, “Do you want worldly success or peace?”

Before anyone present could answer, Baba told, “Everyone wants peace.”

And Baba graciously outlined the aforementioned two points for attaining peace in life. And it is these two points - i.e. keeping the mind fixed on the Goal and intermittent dhyana - that are so significant and fundamental. That is why each and every Ananda Margii must be acutely aware of what Baba has discussed.

Conclusion

The key point we should remember is that He has granted us life and placed us on this earth; we have come here for Him. So whether we are at our job, involved in our family life, attending dharmacakra, engaging in social service work, or attending to our regular duties, then we need only remember we are doing this to please Him - to make Him smile. He is the Goal of life.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The main theme is that we should associate Him with our each and every thought and action. Then, in a very short while, it will become automatic and our days will be ensconced in keeping mind fixed on Him. This will no doubt bring peace and bliss into the life.

In Him,
Gopii

Practical approach

But how to do it in practical life? How to make this theoretical concept into a tangible practice. Actually, He graciously has made it quite easy for us. Because for us, the Goal of life is something quite specific and personal. Every Ananda Margii has an inner link with Him. We all hold Baba as our Beloved Guru. In that case, keeping the mind fixed on the Goal of life is not at all difficult. All we have to do is bear in mind that we have come on this earth to please Him and make Him happy. Because we all love Baba, it is quite easy to think like this. And when the mind is fixed on Him, then doing intermittent abhidhyana throughout the day is very natural. The mind will easily flow in that direction.

Bhaktas realise this truth

"Ke ghumiye áche, tumi jáno, d́ák diye jáo..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2179)

Purport:

My Parama Purusa, You are well aware about who is sleepy and drowsy in following 16 points, has lost the path of divine refulgence, sadhana, service, and sacrifice, and who has drifted from the cosmic Goal,  drowning in materialism; You always call and show them the right way. As the Saviour and Controller of the whole universe, with Your infinite compassion, You lovingly show the proper path to those crying bitterly in misery so they can proceed on their forward journey. You are the Sadguru who knows everything.

Baba, all created beings under the blue sky are within Your expansive mind. You listen to their grieving and laughter - their sadness and joy.

Those sinners who remain forgetful about You as well as those great bhaktas who are always calling You with deep adoration full of longing and tears, You shower Your divine grace on all - without any differentiation. Parama Purusa, Your krpa is for everyone, but some do not realise that You are gracious on them, whereas bhaktas realise this supreme truth. Baba, Your greatness and glory is beyond explanation…

Four root languages

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "When a swift horse runs its hooves make a turtur sound. That which makes a turtur sound as it moves is called turaga or turaunga or turaungama (that is, "horse"). That animal which makes a kurkur sound as it runs is called kuraga or kuraunga or kuraungama (that is, "deer"). In this way human beings have created many word forms and verb forms to express their mental ideas. This process of word formation is called "acoustic derivation" and the original verbal roots in all the world's languages were created in this way."

"The first word forms in all the world's languages were the original verbal roots. By adding prefixes and suffixes many different words were derived. Among the established languages of the world, mainly four can be considered as the root languages. They are Vedic, Latin, Hebrew and old Chinese. If one examines the derivation of the vocabulary of these languages one will find that their method or process is identical." (1)

Here Baba is explaining that these 4 languages (Vedic, Latin, Hebrew, and old Chinese) are root languages. The words and vocabulary of these languages are based on the natural sounds those inhabitants heard, such as when a horse runs. In that way those early people created root verbs. Time passed; daughter and granddaughter languages were formed. And those subsequent languages were built upon the root verbs of those four original root languages.

For example, Sanskrit / Saḿskrta came from the Vedic language and from Sanskrit / Saḿskrta so many Indian languages were created: Hindi, Bengali, Gujurati, Malayalam, and all the Indo-Aryan languages. They are all based on Sanskrit / Saḿskrta and follow the same root verb from the original Vedic. This also happened with Latin, Hebrew, and Old Chinese. So many languages were formed upon the root verbs of these 3 other root languages, just as occurred with Vedic.

Why some intellectuals are fools?

Baba says, "When the human mind is filled with positive tendencies, it integrates everything which it receives as real and claims that it has seen an object-an elephant or a camel. Now suppose that the mind is obsessed with negative tendencies, what happens? In that case, though the mind projects an elephant within, it cannot experience that elephant. Even if the mind thinks of it, still it cannot see that object. Because of this psychic defect or disorder, the mind suffers from positive or negative hallucinations. In your mental thoughts as well sometimes such positive or negative hallucinations can occur. Obviously, whatever an intellectual thinks in his or her arena of intellect is complete defective. There always remain scope for doubt in intellectuality. So intellectuality is also baseless because the very movement of the ectoplasm is baseless." (1)

Worst way to calm others + 5 more

Baba

Worst way to calm others

Namaskar,

Suppose someone is out with their young child and a swarm of mosquitoes comes and starts biting the child, and the child starts crying and yelling. Then as a concerned parent they will immediately take measures to resolve the situation and safeguard their child. They will be extremely proactive to remedy the problem. That is how any normal parent would respond. If someone just told their child to hush-hush and stop crying and not worry about the swarm of mosquitoes, then that would be highly abnormal. Bystanders would think that that person was not being a good parent, rather they were being irresponsible and neglecting their child’s welfare. So again, in this situation, the standard, normal response would be to take direct steps of intervention to ensure the mosquitoes don't bite the child.

Situation in AMPS

Unfortunately, nowadays our AMPS is under threat and suffering from all sorts of problems and exploitation, yet concerned parties are not taking proactive steps to resolve the issues. Rather, if anyone is suffering and crying loudly after being unjustly expelled from their BP post etc, they are told to keep quiet and not say anything. It is akin to allowing one’s child to be repeatedly bitten by swarms of mosquitoes. This is highly abnormal and contrary to a standard code of conduct that would be expected of any responsible person. But sadly, that is the state of affairs in the organisation nowadays.

Remember:
(a) When any fight occurs it means there is an exploiter and an exploited party.
(b) If any onlooker cries out loudly and just preaches the sermon: “Don’t quarrel, stop fighting and be peaceful”, they are going against the fundamentals of Ananda Marga philosophy.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Gist of Baba’s teaching: what to do when fight breaks out

When any fight erupts, those onlookers have a specific duty according to the teachings of  Ananda Marga tantra. In this case, every Ananda Margii should know what should be done.

This following is the English summary of the below Bangla quote:

So Tom’s audacity will grow exponentially and he will again beat Dick mercilessly.”

Those with moral courage fight evil forces & give a soothing touch

Ananda Vanii states, “Peace is the result of fight. Peace-lovers of the universe must not keep themselves away from fight.” (2)

Ananda Vanii states, “Today all over the world, a grim fight has started between the evil forces and the benevolent forces. Only those who possess the moral courage to fight against the evil forces, can give a soothing touch to the struggle-torn earth with the balm of peace. Remember you are spiritual aspirants. Hence you alone shall have to undertake the mighty task of saving the earth.” (3)

Ananda Vanii states, “The very import of the history of human welfare is the history of struggle and strife. Even the sweet gospels of peace could not be preached in an environment of peace and composure. Devils did not allow the apostle of peace to work peacefully – that is why I say that peace is the outcome of fight.” (4)

Conclusion

Here is a summary of the step-wise approach of Sadguru Baba’s above teaching:
(a) The moment a person / or body realizes that they are getting exploited then a quarrel ensues.
(a) When this fight occurs it means there is an exploiter and the exploited.
(c) If any onlooker cries out loudly and just preaches the sermon: “Don’t quarrel, stop fighting and be peaceful”, they are going against the fundamentals of Ananda Marga.
(d) The only way is to find out who the real culprit is and punish them. That is the only way to establish sentient peace and true tranquility.
(e) Due to a lack of proper knowledge people often follow a cowardly philosophy and try to keep the status quo. But in that case, the exploiters will continue their ruthless attack and the exploited people will continue to face injustice and misery. So if anyone takes such an approach they are supporting sin.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Namaskar,
in Him,
Pranatosh Roy

Note: This theory applies to both individual and collective life.

Leech example

Suppose a leech attaches itself to a person’s leg and starts sucking their blood. If that person is a coward they will say, “That is not a big deal; let the leech suck a little blood and then it will go away on its own.” So the cowardly person will not do anything at all in this early stage out of fear of retribution. Whereas, a brave person will fight back at the very outset and take firm steps to resolve the issue, ripping the leech away.

But the situations worses for the cowardly person who refrains from taking the requisite steps. That cowardly person will soon notice that the leech has (a) dug itself in a little deeper, (b) begun sucking more blood, and (c) created a huge welt on the his leg. And if that person is very cowardly, he will say, “Why should I quarrel with this leech - after some time the leech will be done sucking my blood and it will go away peacefully.”

And finally, if the leech has dug himself still deeper into the leg and released poison, whereby the person’s life is at stake, then even the most cowardly person will fight back like a lion.

You have removed the agonies collected from ages

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Esecho tumi esecho, bhuvan bhariyá esecho, yugántarer gláni sariye diye,
áloker dhárá enecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3289)

Purport:

My Parama Purusa, You have come and have filled the entire world with bhakti. After removing ages and ages worth of agonies, You brought the flow of divine refulgence.

Baba, no one will remain in the dark any longer. You are the embodiment of these avenues: karma, knowledge, dhyana, and bhakti. You are the ocean of love, immeasurable, and infinite - ever ensconced in the fountain of love and affection.

Parama Purusa, the creation, preservation, and withdrawal is held within You. Guńátiita, the three gunas - sattva, rajah, tamah - are within You; Kálátiita, You go on performing Your cosmic liila with the time-factor. You dance according to the rhythm of Your divine liila’...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #3289:

[#1] Gun'a'tiita: One of the infinite characteristics of Parama Purusa is that He is beyond the gun'as, beyond all the binding principles like sa'ttvagun'a, rajogun'a, and tamogun'a.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Why is He beyond the scope of all attributions [binding principles]? There are two reasons. One is that He is the creator of everything, so He is the creator of qualifications also, attributions also. So how can He be within the binding scope of those principles, of those qualifications? And certainly He is beyond the reach of these qualifications. In Sam'skrta, qualification or attribution is called “gun'a”, and He is called “Gun'a'tiita”, that is, beyond the bondage of any gun'a." (1)

[#2] Kalatiita: Time is the psychic measurement of motivity of action. The entity who is beyond time is Kalatiita; time is not eternal - time is limited. Only Parama Purusa is infinite. Parama Purusa precedes time factor - He was present before there was time. Or we can say that before creation there was no time but there was Parama Purusa. That is why He is beyond time, i.e. Kalatiita

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Time is the mental measurement of the motivity of action. Where there is no action or where there is no mind to measure, there cannot be any time either. If there were no earth, or if the earth had not revolved around the sun, or if there were no developed living beings to measure the movement of the earth around the sun, then there would have been no days, months or years. We could not have measured them, and thus there would have been no time either. Hence the existence of time depends on two factors: the motivity of action and the instrument to measure this motivity of action...what we call Eternity is a collection of numerous fragments of time." (2)

[#3] What is time

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Time is not an eternal factor. Because what is time? It is mental reckoning of the motivity of action. This mental reckoning of the motivity of action [means that] where there is no action, there cannot be any time. The earth moves around the sun; that is how we get the solar year, the solar month, the solar day. The moon moves round the earth; that is how we get the lunar month, the lunar year, the lunar [day]. And the solar year or lunar year, the solar day or lunar da2y, are mental reckonings of their movements. Wherever there is no action, the possibility of measurement does not arise. And where there is action but no personal entity, no personal factor to measure the motivity, there cannot be any time. So the time factor is a relative factor; there cannot be eternal time. Time cannot be the absolute factor." (3)

About dogs, jackals, and wolves

Ananda Marga Shabda Cayanika says, “A dog is a hybrid of the wolf and the vixen. In ancient times wild dogs were rather scarce, precisely for the same reason. There is hardly any dog fossil amongst the available fossils of ancient animals. Nowadays, however, wild dogs are also prevalent. These wild dogs live gregariously in jungles, and even a gigantic tiger has been seen to be flabbergasted and killed by a concerted attack of these dogs.”

“Although a dog is a hybrid of the wolf and the vixen, it must be said that there are many radical, extreme differences between a wolf and a dog. A wolf is voracious, but a dog feels satisfied with a small meal. It is difficult to tame a wolf, but a dog loves to be domesticated. A dog is extremely faithful and loyal to its master. A wolf is neither faithful nor loyal to its master. A dog is not ferocious by nature. It attacks or frightens someone as part of its duty. A wolf is ferocious by nature. It has no sense of duty. A dog would not normally kill a creature if its stomach were full. But a wolf, even when its belly is full, kills a creature. If it has no capacity to eat it, it carries the carcass to its den and eats it according to its convenience. Dogs do not generally fight with other members of the dog family. They fight with members of the feline family. But a wolf does not observe any such principle. A wolf avoids the strong and unnecessarily attacks the weak. Although there is a family resemblance between the wolf and the dog, whenever a dog is sighted the wolf attacks and kills it.”

“There are many differences between a jackal and a dog. A dog generally moves about during the daytime. But jackals are night prowlers by nature. A jackal moves in the daytime only when it is in danger, it has to change locations or is excessively hungry. A jackal lives in a hole, but a dog never likes to live in a hole. It prefers to live in the open. A jackal cannot be tamed; but a dog can. By virtue of being night prowlers, the jackals periodically howl in chorus to preserve their solidarity and register their presence. However, dogs do not have this habit. They bark collectively only when they have to fight an enemy as a body. Although both jackals and dogs belong to the canine family, a dog chases a jackal whenever it sees one. A jackal runs away at the sight of a dog. By nature a dog is brave and a jackal is cowardly.” (1)

Religions are grounded in dogma - not logic and rationality

Ananda Marga philosophy states,"Religions sometimes survive for a long time, even though they are full of dogma. This is because they know how to twist their teachings to deny the truth and adapt to different circumstances. Their purpose is to secure the interests of a special, privileged class. Some religions have also survived because they have associated themselves with God-centred ideas, although they are not God-centred. They make some dogmatic propositions about God an important part of their teaching, and on this basis they sentimentalize the minds of the people. These sentiments penetrate deeply into the human psyche."

"The main weapons of dogma-centred philosophies are:
1) The propagation of stories, myths and parables to create superiority complexes;
2) The propagation of stories, myths and parables to create inferiority complexes;
3) The propagation of fear complex and inferiority complex amongst the people, especially the Shúdras."

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "All religions use these three types of complexes to inject superiority complexes, inferiority complexes and fear complexes into the minds of the people. They propagates parables, myths and stories to inject complexes into people’s minds. Is it not a fact? All religions are based on dogma – they are not based on logic – and they propagate their dogma through stories, myths and parables. All religions propagate that “My God is the only true God. Other Gods are false gods.” When some religions claim that their god is the only true God, it is an example of a dogma-centred proposition. All world religions are based on such dogma-centred theories."

"Take the case of Hindu myths. The authors of Hindu mythologies say that the Brahmans are born from the mouth of Parama Puruśa, the Kśatriyas from the arms, the Vaeshyas from the trunk and the Shúdras from the feet." (1)
