Why not sell + 4 more

Baba
Why not sell

Namaskar,

There are many places where our Ananda Marga jagrtis, Baba Quarters, and land holdings are being sold and are in queue to be sold. This wholly contravenes Baba’s guidelines and undermines the intentions and spirit of those donating land to AMPS.

How AMPS acquires land

In general, our Marga gets new land parcels in these following ways:
a. Donation of land by margiis;
b. Donation of land by non-margiis;
c. Donation of land by government;
d. Financial donation by margiis for purchasing land;
e. Financial donation by non-margiis for purchasing land; and,
f. Land capture, i.e. in certain parts of the world if an organisation starts using unused government land for their social service work, then the government often passes ownership of that land to that organisation. This happens in India and elsewhere too.

How worst sinner gets moksa by service

In all these cases, there is a clear-cut goal and allotted purpose for the land; the land was not just meant to be sold for cash etc. Irrespective of the way in which the organisation gets that land, donors feel that the land they are donating should be used for social service projects. That is their primary motive for donating the land.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Indirect virtue is acquired when one’s service has a recurring effect, such as service to the society, planting trees, etc. If banyan trees are planted beside a hot and dusty road they will continue to give shelter to weary travellers for one thousand to two thousand years. Virtue acquired in this way is indirect virtue.” (1)

The general feeling is that people want to be involved in a social service project that is of a recurring nature, like land donation – in order to get virtue. Non-margiis often do like this. However, the person who donated the land cannot continue to derive any virtue if they donate to the wrong hand and their land conation gets sold. So donors want pious social service work to be done on that land – on an ongoing basis. By this way they will continue to receive virtue.

Indeed, even mahapatakiis (great sinners) may get moksa by this way. Baba has written that if even the worst sinner becomes involved in recurring welfare activities, then all their bad samskaras can be requited. So giving land for social service work falls in that type of good deed that is of a recurring nature.

In contrast, if at the time of donation they think that the land they are donating will be sold as part of a business transaction then they will not donate it in the first place. They are giving the land not for a business transaction but for social service.

Why people donate land

Land donors, be they margiis or sympathizers, are always very attached to the land which they are giving – it is a part of their heart feeling. Baba says the following about their deep attachment to the land.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Among all the attachments human beings suffer from, attachment to land is one of the strongest. Out of sympathy farmers can donate large amounts of produce without hesitation, but they will feel tremendous pain if they are asked to donate a few square metres of land. If they have to donate land to somebody, farmers feel that their ribs will break because of the pain in their hearts. Those who donate land do so for three reasons – to save the major part of their land, for a high humanitarian cause or out of spiritual inspiration.” (2)

If you have news about what is happening in your area, please share it. In this atmosphere it is not clear which jagrti will be sold next – anything can happen. Many properties that are in regular use today are actually under contract to be sold. It is not just that empty or unused buildings and parcels are sold. So beware.

Remember we are dealing with those who lust after power and control for their faction. They are veritable politicians; we cannot run away from this situation. We must be vigilant.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya guides us, “For the selfish and hypocrites, politics is the best instrument to achieve their selfish ends; hence when dealing in politics proceed very cautiously and with sharp eyes all round.” (3)

Margiis’ penance & sacrifice

Local margiis pay money to register donated land. In India there is a registration fee and in other countries there is a tax. In both cases, local margiis carefully save money from their limited family budget to donate towards this registration cost. In our Marga, it is not the ultra-rich who donate land, but rather it is hard-working common folk who donate land. And they face real hardship in order to get the land registered. In India, the registry fee is 8% of the total cost of the land. That is a high price to pay. But margiis and sympathizers will pay it because they wish to do social service.

However, if they have any doubt that the land will be sold or used as part of a business scheme, then they will never undergo such financial hardship to register and donate land.

It is so tragic how a narcissistic leader sells Ananda Marga property from around the globe and uses that money to build mansions in his own name. Seeing this awful display, Wts feel sad yet remain powerless to stop this from happening - indeed the situation is dire. It is so painful.

Conclusion: Analogy rats & termites

In the conclusive part of His discourse of Victory Day in 1990, Baba warned all of us. Here is the culminating section which was originally given in two languages: Hindi and Bangla. It has been printed in AV Hindi part 24 on page 149, and here is the English summary.

You have to build up society by your collective efforts. You know when the weaver weaves the clothes then rats and termites engage in trying to cut it. Then the weaver has to protect the clothes from rats and termites. In the same way when you are building anything then without any delay various types of "termites" and "rats"* will try to destroy that. You must be careful.  Above all those who have a pious motive to build up something, they ultimately get victory. But "rats" and "termites" do not have a pure motive so ultimately getting destroyed is their fate. Just they leave some dirty, ugly mark in the pages of history.

By seeing those ugly, black marks, in future people think 'oh, it seems this was attacked by termites and rats. Oh, it appears that the termites and rats which came to attack and destroy this, but instead those rats and termites broke their teeth and got annihilated'.  "It is the universal law. So as you build up good things, be vigilant to keep sharp eyes all around. Be sure to protect your work from "rats" and "termites".

In the past, females were preparing mango jelly in summer. And to shoo away the crows & to protect the mango jelly, one boy from the house was always standing guard with a large stick in his hand and sharp eyes watching for those crows. Same way you should always be alert & vigilant to save your work  from termites and rats. Then work will be done..."

Today again you take oath to build up the earth by your own individual and collective efforts. We have come here to beautify this earth. We will make it so and we will go on doing this our whole life. This will be our main collective vow. (English summary)

In the above teaching, Sadguru Baba is guiding us to be alert and vigilant with regards to the enemies trying to destroying AMPS by selling our mobile and immobile properties.

~ In-depth study ~

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “According to our philosophy, when consciousness arises in individual life then a person begins to move in accordance with certain instructions, certain guidance. In collective life as well, when this stage comes, those who are well advanced, who understand better, who are more courageous, more firmly established in morality, who are truly righteous, they have to take the lead, to assume the mantle of leadership. In such times those who worry about what others will say or think, or worry about being criticized, and due to this fear hide behind closed doors thinking that if they take action their good name will be tarnished, such people are not true human beings. They are beggars, begging for reputation. They have no manliness; they have lost the courage to move ahead. At that time those who come forward and say – “Let’s go. I’m with you. If trouble comes, let it come. I’ll take it on my shoulders” – such people I have given the name sadvipra.” (4)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “This is the way it has been and the way it will always be. However, in collective life at the critical juncture between one great age and another, in this transitional stage of great change, when it becomes impossible for the common man or even ordinary sadvipras to take up the leadership, then Parama Puruśa through his special grace arranges that leadership. At this time on the earth humanity is witnessing such a yuga sandhi. On one side there is the rubbish heap of the past and people are clinging to that rubbish heap because they have not yet been shown the way out. And on the other side, there is the call of the new. Under such conditions what will that Mahásambhúti do who gave guidance to the human race in the past? With courage he will call to human beings and declare: “Give up the rubbish of the past. It can only harm you and lead you to your death. Move ahead. Answer the call of the new. I am with you. There is no reason to be afraid.” (5)

Dark skin is natural

Because of their inferiority complex, many around the globe want to whiten or lighten their skin. They do not know that one's skin colour is for the well-being and safety of their body. God has specially designed and protected them in this way. In hot climate areas, melanin is a natural chemical in the skin that makes the skin dark. And that dark skin tone protects them. But due to their imposed inferiority complex, some people want to become white. They do not know that they are destroying themselves and may die a premature death due to skin cancer. Because dark skin is good for health in those hot regions. The solution is that those with dark skin suffering from an imposed inferiority complex should understand that dark skin has specific benefits. Even in colder areas, it get warm for a few months each year, so in that case also those with dark skin get direct medical benefits - e.g. protected from getting skin cancer etc. This is especially the case when involved in outdoor activities. While white-skinned people do not get those benefits. So dark skin is a plus.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The greater the heat of the sun, the greater the amount of ultraviolet rays in the sunlight. A study of geography tells us why there are differences in the degree of heat of the sun’s rays. Where the sun’s rays fall on earth obliquely, there is less heat of the sun, and where the sun’s rays fall straight on the earth, the heat is greater. In very hot countries white-skinned people find it very hard to live, because their skin, having less of the chemical substance called melanin, is unable to stand much heat. Body skin with a great quantity of melanin in it turns jet black, and obviously a lesser quantity of melanin makes one’s skin white."

"If ever white people are forced for some reason to live long in a hot climate, their colour turns brown. In 1939-40, when British soldiers came to India for war purposes, their colour became brown due to the great heat. Naturally, as the skin of these soldiers had to adjust with the hot climate of India, there were some necessary changes in their skin to effect acclimatisation." (1)

Which body will you get

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “The mind needs an appropriate body with which it can return from the state of distortion to the normal state through the medium of actions, through the medium of its nerve cells and nerve fibres. What will happen if it gets an unsuitable body? The mind will be unable to return to its normal state through that body. So it needs an appropriate body.” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Gold ornaments cannot be fashioned with a blacksmith’s hammer. A goldsmith’s hammer is necessary. According to the nature of the task, an appropriate instrument is necessary. The body is an instrument. So one needs an appropriate body. Suppose a person is obsessed with the thought of doing this or that, to harm another person. They will receive the body of a pig or a dog. One who desires to do something good and noble, will receive a good physical body accordingly, because the mind has to be restored to its natural state by whatever means necessary. After death, the distorted mind moves about the cosmos under the impetus of the mutative force (rajoguńa), searching for an appropriate physical base according to its reactive momenta (saḿskáras). For example, a person dies in Kolkata. They may take rebirth on a different planet or a satellite, because they have to go to that place where they can find an appropriate body for their saḿskáras, those yet unexhausted reactions of their previous actions…” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Whether one be a philanthropist or a star athlete, one desires to see what is written about them in the newspaper. This means that in trying to do some good work, what are they really doing? They are falling under the sway of one propensity, the propensity of greed.”

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Which animal is the greediest among the animals with which we are all very familiar? It does not like to give up greed in spite of ill treatment and humiliations. It is the cat. Yes, after moving a few steps ahead, the cat forgets that it was beaten. So, that particular person is reborn as a cat after death, because that body affords an opportunity for the satiation of their greed” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “So in order to exhaust the saḿskáras one needs an appropriate body. Some people obtain a new body immediately after death and others obtain it later. But one has to obtain it somehow.”

Ananda Marga ideology states, “When they perform the act of charity, átmá or Parama Puruśa witnessed it. He heard the language of their mind while they were performing that act of charity. Parama Puruśa also sees when a particular person in the form of a cat steals milk and rice, and this saḿskára will come to an end when the saḿskára of greed is exhausted. Only then is one elevated to a higher state. From a cat one may become a dog, and from a dog one becomes a monkey, and then one day they get a human body in the process of exhausting saḿskáras, because an animal cannot do anything independently. The animal, of course, is guided by instincts, inborn saḿskáras.” (1)
