How we should live 120 years + 4 more

Baba
How we should live 120 years

Namaskar,

Around the globe, it is commonly held that a successful life is a long life. People generally equate longevity of life with success. In Ananda Marga our view is quite different: Longevity in and of itself is not the main factor or criteria of a successful life. Baba guides us that human life must be filled with great works and noble deeds - in a phrase, it must be an actional representation of a high ideal. Side by side, Baba warns us not to live a passive life - devoid of any activity. Baba opposes such a static approach.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Mere survival is not enough; what is important is to live a dignified life. The excellence of human life lies in action; it is through action that human beings survive. They should aspire to live long while performing noble deeds; it is futile to live just like an earthworm. Indeed, each and every human being should vow, 'I do not know how long I will survive; but as long as I exist I will live a glorious life, not an ignominious existence like that of an earthworm'..." (1)

According to Baba, living a long life devoid of doing any good deeds is a waste of human existence - rather that is akin to living like an earthworm. As human beings, our duty is to lead a bustling life: One that is filled with high minded actions and guided by a benevolent intellect.

Modernity has brought longevity, not quality

These days in this modern era with the advancement of science, many people are living much longer lives in comparison to the past - but unfortunately with regards to the quality of their existence, that has decreased dramatically. Although many are reaching the century mark and living more than 100 years, it is quite obvious that many are just existing like animals: Only eating, drinking, and sleeping etc, nothing more.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

That is why according to Baba's dharmic stand, in this modern era most are just living the passive & degenerated life of an earthworm. Their lives are an unfortunate display because they fail to utilise their human life for something great - for something noble. So although people's longevity has increased, we cannot call their life successful.

The forgotten equation: samskara theory

People often fail to realise that they will have to undergo all the reactions of their actions. In which case living a long life filled with negative deeds  of doing harm to others invites serious problems - serious repercussions. It is a liability because people will have to suffer the reactions of their bad actions.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "If some bad actions are committed, naturally their consequences also must be undergone." (2)

Per samskara theory, individuals must undergo the negative reactions of their actions. So when human beings are living long lives but failing to do good works and instead filling their existence with mundane or even degrading activities and harming others, then their long life amounts to nothing but a huge pile of negative samskaras. That is the end result of their long life. In which case who can term that as a successful existence. Rather it is a disaster as they have accumulated so much sin and negative samskaras leading to suffering and pain for themselves in the future. They are sure to revert back on the path of negative pratisaincara. Whereas if they had died sooner they would have accumulated fewer negative samskaras. But certainly this is opposite in the case of sadhakas.

Baba's warning: don't do bad deeds

That is why Baba vehemently warns us about doing negative works - bad actions.

    Ya'vanna ks'iiyate karma

Ananda Marga ideology states, "The bondage of asatkarma [bad actions] is iron...One has to refrain from bad actions so that the chains of iron might not be forged." (3)

So if one does any bad action then there is no escape. Immediately they have bound themselves up in iron chains - that is Baba's stern warning. The only answer then is to refrain from doing misdeeds - goaded by animalistic desires and devilish tendencies. And instead one should live the life of a spiritual warrior, ever ensconced in noble works.

How incurring bigger load of negative samskaras

All in all in this modern era human life has tragically became something negative because people involve themselves in degenerated activities thereby incurring a load of negative samskaras. This we can see happening all around us in the general society. The root problem is that most people do not utilise their life for a greater cause. This happens because of a lack of a spiritual way of living. Instead they just get caught up in the negative flow of the materialistic society.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

So our duty is to form a spiritual based society so that common human beings can utilise their life from birth to death. We have to help people discover their innate human tendency: To live a life always in search of divine bliss.

2-5: Tasminnupalabdhe parama' trs'n'a'nivrttih

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "There is in the living being a thirst for limitlessness..." (4)

Indeed by Baba's grace everyone has the inborn desire to achieve immortality - to lead a spiritual existence and attain Him. So the best thing is to utilise this human life for real fulfillment, otherwise one's life is like the slothy existence of a slimy earthworm. Overall then, for positive, spiritually-minded people a longer life is a boon. But for negative people it is a curse. Longevity of life is only something beneficial if that life is utilised in a proper way, otherwise that longevity of life is nothing but a curse.

His divine liila is blissful for bhaktas

This entire cycle of life is the divine liila of Parama Purusa. A baby is born and blooms up to its full development and then gradually it shrinks in its old age. This is the divine play of “Hari & Hara”. That is why this world is called jagat – because everything is mobile. Everything is changing; nothing is stationary. Those who have come will one day go. Those who have gone, they have gone in order to return again. This infinite liila of Parama Purusa is going on from beginninglessness up to eternity. In reality, this liila is miserable for jinanis; but for bhaktas it is blissful. In this cosmic liila everyone has their own particular role to play. And those who remember that they are part of a divine drama, they enjoy; and those who forget, they cry. But in the real sense everything is blissful because everyone is dancing around Parama Purusa.

"Kalya'n'amastu-- May you be blessed"

Baba has graciously showered His divine blessing on us by bringing us onto the path of spirituality- thus making our lives successful.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "You are all sa'dhakas, you are all spiritual aspirants...I know certainly you will be successful...Kalya'n'amastu-- May you be blessed." (5)

Namaskar,
In Him,
Darpaharii

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “You know, nothing is fixed or stationary in this universe of ours. Everything moves. Movement is the order of the day. Movement expresses living stamina. Even the dead bodies, even this universe, are not fixed or stationary; because the earth moves, and along with the movement of the earth, the dead body also moves. So everywhere there is mobility and motivity.” (6)

Baba's special secret for a long life

Here Baba graciously gives us a special guideline for living a long, successful life - one that is filled with peace and tranquility.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Spiritual practice makes the mind calm and quiet, and maintains the nerves in a state of equipoise; and thus spiritual practice increases longevity." (7)

The reactions of all actions must be experienced - so be careful

Ananda Marga ideology says, “Even after crores of kalpas [aeons] the reactions of actions are not exhausted. This continues to be so as long as the reactions have not been experienced.” How will the reactions of the actions be exhausted? Karmabhogena kśiiyate – “When the reactions are experienced, then only are they exhausted.” Avashyameva bhoktavyam' krtam' karmashubhá shubham – “one has performed good actions, so their fruits are to be enjoyed; so also is it with bad actions.” Hence one has to be cautious while performing actions. After that, repentance will fetch no benefit." (8)

Both good and bad actions cause a reaction

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Human beings undergo reactions according to the nature of their original actions. If someone harms a sick person, a saint, a person who has taken shelter with someone, or a honest person, he or she will immediately undergo a reaction of the same intensity. This is because sick, infirm and saintly people never obstruct the original actions of wrongdoers. Whatever the original actions of a person may be, good or bad, reactive momenta are bound to be created. Until all these potential reactions are expressed, liberation or salvation is impossible. Yávanna ksiiyata karma shubhaiṋcáshubhameva ca, Távanna jáyate mokśonrám kalpashataerapi. Yathá laohamayaeh páshaeh páshaeh svarńamayaerapi Tathábaddho bhavejjiivo karmábhishcá shubhae shubhaeh. “Until all the reactions of actions, good or bad, are exhausted a person cannot attain salvation in hundreds of lives. Just as people bound by golden or iron chains feel the pains of bondage, similarly people undergoing good or bad reactions will have to accept them.”" (9)

What creates the biggest reaction

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Avashyameva bhoktavyam' krtam' karmashubhá shubham. Now the question arises whether the reactions will be just [equal] to the actions, or less, or more. Equal and opposite reaction is [the rule], but then, whether the enjoyment of the reaction of actions is purely psychic or physico-psychic is to be seen. Where the action is purely mental, the reaction will be just [equal] to that. But if the action is physico-psychic, the question is, what will be the reaction? Still one thing is there, that if the mind is not affected by the physico-psychic action, nothing happens. But [usually] when the reaction is physico-psychic, it has more effect than the action performed."
"If it is purely psychic, the reaction will be just equal to it. [But] the reaction of the physico-psychic action does not affect the mind cent per cent. A person enjoys [psychic] reactions just [equal] to the actions performed. If there be some quantity of the reaction of physico-psychic action [that affects the body], in that case, the reaction will be much more than the action performed. The mind will be affected just according to the psychic action – that is the case with psychic actions. [But] if the action is physico-psychic, some of the reactions [affect] the mind, some [do] not. That which affects the mind is a psychic reaction, that which does not is physical. Among these reactions, the one that is in the pure physical sphere does not affect the mind. The pure psychic coupled with the [physical] of a physico-psychic reaction add up to produce a greater reaction. So the quantity of reaction in case of a physico-psychic action becomes much greater. Hence one should be careful." (10)

Three processes for attaining freedom

Ananda Marga ideology states, "There are three processes for attaining freedom from the bondage of action: (1) relinquishing any desire for the fruits of action, or Phalákám'kśá Tyága, (2) Abandoning the vanity of performing an act, or Kartrtvábhimána Tyága, and (3) surrendering all actions unto Brahma. All of these have to be followed in the individual life, but it must be kept in mind that they all have to be strictly observed. To be more explicit, these rules are the different aspects of one and the same process." (11)

How people are reborn to experience reaction

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Original action begets a certain reaction, and simultaneously brings one within the bondage of actions. Unless those bondages are broken, the microcosms will have to keep moving in a cycle of action and reaction – they will have to be reborn again and again on this earth." (12)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "There is no escape even if one performs a good action. One has to return again and again to this earth in order to reap the auspicious consequences of such actions. The idea that the disembodied mind experiences the auspicious consequences of its good actions is indeed a fantasy. This fantasy world is called heaven. It means that if one has performed a good action, then one will reap the consequences of that auspicious action after death. But the mind can experience its good consequences, if and only if, it has a body. One experiences joy and agony, pleasure and pain only if one has a brain, nerve cells and nerve fibres. If there is no physical body, how can there be any experience? So the thought of experiencing that pleasure in heaven is nothing but sheer fantasy. There is no logic behind it. That is why, in Ánanda Sútram, it is said, Na svargo na rasátala [“There is neither heaven nor hell”]. Where is the question of pleasure and pain in the absence of the physical body! So the fantasy of heaven is completely erroneous. Yes, one has to come to this world again in order to experience pleasure and pain. You have to come to the world again so that the sam'skáras of the past attain fruition. It is correct, because one has to perform actions in order to restore the mind to its normal state from the distortions (vikrti) caused by previous actions.” (13)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Unless one undergoes the requitals of one's mental reactive momenta – good requitals to good actions, bad requitals to bad actions – one cannot attain liberation.” Avashyameva bhoktavyam' krtam' karma shubháshubham – “whether an action is good or bad, the reaction must be experienced.” (14)

Sadhana: only way to escape noose of samskaras

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Until the actions, whether good or bad are annihilated, human beings cannot attain salvation or Mokśa. Can the gold chain be looser and less torturing than the iron chain to someone in bondage? Similarly, the bondage of bad actions is exactly as tight as the bondage of good actions."

    Nábhuktam' kśiiyate karma kalpakot́ishataerapi
    Avashyameva bhoktavyam' krtam' karma shubháshubham

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Therefore, for salvation or emancipation, it is necessary to be liberated from the bondage of Sam'skáras. The question is, how to attain salvation? When it is essential to act for maintaining one's existence, how is it possible to avoid the cycle of action and reaction?"

"It is known from philosophic propositions that the attainment of Mukti (liberation) or Mokśa (salvation) is possible only through spiritual practices or sádhaná. It therefore follows that there is certainly some means to attain liberation from sam'skáras." (15)

One should not do to be rewarded
do for the welfare of society

Ananda Marga ideology states, "One should undergo penance for others' welfare, for the well-being of the world; and the good that the world enjoys due to one's sacrifice is the reward. One should not expect any reward greater than this. The good result of a good action is the reward of that action. Similarly the bad result of a bad deed is the negative price of that action. The ancient sages used to practise penance by sitting near a firepit with their legs up and their hands down. What value does this type of penance have? Not much. To continue to perform penance like this is certainly not the highest fulfilment of life. Human beings have come onto this earth to do something good, something which will be of some benefit for the society for at least some period of time, if not forever." (16)

Stages of human life

Here following are the Sanskrit terms demarcating the various stages of human life. Accompanying them are corollary English terms. However since the English language does not formally divide human life in the exact systematic way as in Sanskrit, then everyone should give their further suggestions for how to best express the English counterpart.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba has formed these categories of life based upon changes that come as a result of changes in: age, psychological outlook, physical & psychic development, etc.

Ananda Marga Laghu Nirukta says, "Human life is composed of various stages. And the collection of all the stages encompasses the entire human life. And just as human beings have these ten stages, similarly the life of each and every living being is composed of these ten stages. So depending upon the type of living being and environmental conditions such as climate and temperature etc, the duration of each of these stages varies, either increasing or decreasing. Following are the stages of life for a human being living in a tropical country."

“1) Ma'trgarbha: anuma'nika 10 ma's (Mother's Womb; approx 10 months)”

“2) Shaeshav: 0 to 5 (Infancy)”

“3) Balyaka'l: 5 to 14 (Childhood)”

“4) Kaeshora: 14 to 16 (Youth)”

“5) Paogan'd'a: 16 to 18 (Teenage / Adolescence)”

“6) Yauban: 18 to 39 (Early adult life)”

“7) Praor'hatva: 39 to 50 (Middle age)”

“8) Ba'rdhakya: 50 to 72 (Older adult life / senior citizen)”

“9) Jara': 72 to 100 (Elderly)”

“10) Atharva: 100 + (Centenarian)” (16)

Ma'trgarbha (Stage 1): In Varna Vicitra part 1, Baba comments that the duration of this first stage is ideally 10 months & 10 days. That is how long the fetus remains inside the womb, in the best of circumstances. If however, the fetus is born before this time, then the newborn will not be properly mature. In that case its physical and mental development has not occurred up to the optimal degree. This stands as yet another proof how human life begins in the mother's womb and therefore the act of abortion is not accepted in A'nanda Ma'rga.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Balyaka'l (Stage 3): Due to the excess intake of protein and fat and due to chemicals in the food, the age of puberty in so-called developed countries is rapidly decreasing. Now some young girls reach puberty at the tender age of 8 and some boys begin puberty at the age of 9. The extremely early onset of adolescence is the result of terrible imbalances in lifestyle and ultimately this creates serious problems in the society. Because suddenly 10 year old girls are getting pregnant and producing their own babies, yet they themselves are still young children and completely unable to take care of their offspring. This is the tragedy unfolding in various so-called developed countries.

Jara' (Stage 9): This means those whose bodies have begun shrinking.

Atharva (Stage 10): This means those who are almost immobile.

Samaj system is universalism

Prout philosophy states, "While there may be diverse cultural expressions and socio-economic potentialities in different units, the points of difference should not be allowed to divide humanity. If the common sentiments of human beings are given prominence and the points of unity are made the basis of collective development, diversity will enrich humanity rather than tear it asunder. If each socio-economic unit is inspired by a comprehensive ideology and a universal outlook, human society will move ahead with accelerating speed towards a sublime ideal.” (1)

Prout philosophy states, “A sound ideological base is a prerequisite for socio-economic groupifications. Such a foundation is provided by universal humanism, which has the potential to unite all humanity. Universal humanism will not be established on the hard crust of the earth overnight, but will come to fruition gradually, stage by stage. It will include each and every person in the world, as well as animals, plants and inanimate objects. If a single person remains outside the influence of universalism and becomes a victim of exploitation, then the foundation of universal humanism will be undermined. Hence, PROUT has adopted a rational method to solve socio-economic problems which may be characterized as universal in spirit but regional in approach" (2)

Note: Nowadays, some are singing the song of samaj as they try to forge ahead with their narrow-minded agendas. They justify their groupism by claiming it as a samaj movement. But margiis understand Baba's teachings and recognise the truth. Our samaj system is based on universal principles not factional allegiances. Thus the groupism carried out by certain leaders and the ideal of our samaj movements are worlds apart, i.e. polar opposites.

Why psychic ailments common

In this modern age, scientific development has made significant progress; in comparison, human psychic and spiritual growth has lagged far behind. In result, psychic problems and mental tension have multiplied in a geometrical progression. The final outcome is that nerve, brain, and heart diseases have become quite common; and anxiety, nervousness, and insanity are widespread in the society. The remedy for this has been given in our Ananda Marga ideology:

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "While doing work one should ideate, 'It is the work of Parama Purusa; it is not mine. I am doing His work to please Him'. By following this approach mental tension, nervousness, and psychic diseases will never arise. And also samskaras will not be formed." (1)

Story: ideal selfless service + 3 more

Baba

Story: ideal selfless service

Namaskar,

The below story recounts a dramatic and remarkable experience where someone unexpectedly came forward to help in some unique and unusual ways.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba sits on hilltop for sadhana

Here begins the account from Baba’s discourse:

Reminds me of something that happened long ago. At that time I used to go and sit nearly every evening on the highest peak of the hills east of my town. I may have told a few people how I met Vireshavijay Vasumallik while sitting on the top of that peak. After sitting alone on the top of the hill for some time I would return home about nine o'clock. I used to climb down from the hills not long after the sun had gone down behind them.

On this day, however, I was a little late coming down from the hills. By the time I reached the bottom it had grown completely dark in all directions. After sunset, a little light would still remain at the top, though it would be completely dark at the bottom of the hills. That day it had become quite dark even in the hilltops so when I reached the bottom it was pitch black. Not only was it a dark night but there was a blackout on in town at that time.

...

Blackouts were in force from city to city. In most places there were careful preparations taken against air attacks. Naturally, moving on the roads after dark had become extremely troublesome, so people used to finish work quite early and go home and close their doors and windows. Yes, even the windows had to be shut, otherwise the light from inside the houses would leak out into the streets and make it easy for the enemy to locate the site. People would be back home by dark and crowd together in one room to listen secretly to the radio news about the Indian National Army. Those who didn't have a radio in their house would go to the house of someone who did, making for quite a crowd, but it wasn't considered proper to hear the news in this way.

In my town there was a daily blackout. Low-power bulbs had been fitted in the street lights and the lamp covers had been painted black so that the light would not be diffused very far.

Unusual encounter

Here the story continues:

Yes, as I was saying, on that day I came down from the hills rather late and started heading for the city. On the way was a huge banyan tree which at that time was extremely tall. Later, the large head of the tree was cut down to make it easier for planes to land. At any rate, I had to pass the banyan tree on my return. On my little finger I was wearing a solid gold ring which had been loose for the past few days. As I was passing the banyan tree the ring slipped off my finger. I couldn't use a torch to find it because first, it was prohibited and secondly, it would bring the military people rushing to the spot when they saw the torchlight in the distance. Apart from that, I was one of the people responsible for the arrangements against air attacks. Why should I break the rules just to save a ring? So I searched the ground with my hands for some time and then started walking home again.

After I had taken a few steps I noticed a gigantic creature climbing down from the huge head of that enormous banyan tree. His face didn't look like a man's but rather more like a forest gorilla. The fellow approached quite close to me. Although he wasn't touching me, I felt all the while as if he was, and this annoyed me. After walking for a little while, the man started talking to me in Angika. “You are quite angry with me, aren't you?” he said.

“No, I am not angry,” I replied. “But I am feeling somewhat uneasy. Why are you walking so close to me? You could keep a little distance.”

“No, no. Whether or not you get angry, I cannot let you walk completely alone tonight. For one night I will bear your anger; I am doing so and I will continue to do so.”

What could I do? I kept my mouth closed and kept on walking. The man continued talking. “You are telling yourself that I am certainly not a man. True enough. One cannot think of me as a man. But still, what can I be other than a man? Rather, you should think of me as your shadow. Shadows are very long, aren't they?”

I didn't like it, but there was a logic to what he was saying, so I kept quiet and listened as I walked.

Danger in the darkness

Here again we pick up the account:

“You are thinking that such a stout face cannot belong to a man. True indeed, but oftentimes a shadow becomes quite stout. Isn't it so? Perhaps you are asking yourself why I am so jet-black. Are fair-complexioned people's shadows also fair? Milk's shadow is as dark as a new-moon night. Whatever the case may be, I am walking with you and I will continue to do so. I simply will not let you walk alone, especially tonight.”

“Such a bizarre entity like yourself – I cannot call you a man, nor can I call you a shadow or a ghost, so I call you an entity – what will people think if they see me walking with such a huge entity?”

The fellow kept silent for a while and then said: “You are researching the Vedas, studying the Vedas. Today you were explaining the word úta. Úta means ‘that which is woven’ or ‘that whose movement is towards hell’. Úta means ‘a creature of hell’. What is the problem if you let that creature of hell that you were talking about walk beside you for a little while? I will not let you go now, not even for a moment.”

Those days there was a blackout nearly every night. Here and there around the city were trenches dug for the people to take shelter in case of air attack. Some of these trenches were very deep. Suddenly, while walking along the road, my left leg fell into one of those deep trenches and my right leg became twisted. Just as I was falling headlong into the ditch in unbearable pain, that huge entity caught me and pulled me out. Then he said: “The bone of your right leg has become dislocated. It must be extremely painful. The reason I was walking so close to you was so that you wouldn't fall into any danger; otherwise I would never have been so impertinent or ungentlemanly as to walk so close to you. Yet it is my great misfortune that despite having done so, your leg has still been injured. Anyhow, I cannot let you walk any further. You are in my care now; I will carry you to your house on my shoulders. No objections now! You are not able to walk properly, and I can't let any more troubles be added to those you already have.” Saying this, he lifted me onto his shoulders.

He carries Baba on his shoulders

Here the story continues:

“What will people on the road think?” I said. “How they will gossip!”

“I will put you down whenever we get to any place in town that is crowded, and we will cross that place with me holding on to you very carefully. Afterwards I'll put you back on my shoulders.”

“Okay,” I replied. The fellow hoisted me up on his shoulders and started walking.

It was a dark night and a blackout as well, but lo and behold! It was only nine o'clock but there was not a soul to be seen on the road, not even a dog.
“A few miles east of here is one of the Buddhist era centres of Angadesh, Parsando village. There is a very pious man who lives there; his name is Ramjii Singh. The skill to set dislocated bones has been passed down in Ramjii Singh's family for generations. In olden times his forefathers used to set the dislocated leg bones of the king's elephants. Ramjii Singh himself once set the leg bone of the elephant of the king of Monghyr. It will be very good if this Ramjii Singh comes early tomorrow morning and sets your leg bone.”

What could I say! There was nothing to say so I kept quiet. When we arrived at my door this huge entity set me down gently and said in a very modest and gentlemanly way: “I will go now. If you ever need me again, call me mentally and I'll rush right over.”

“What is your name?” I asked.

“I am your shadow.”

“Where do you live?”

“Near you. But usually I remain on the peak of that mountain or at the top of that huge banyan tree where the ring slipped off your little finger today.” Saying this he put the same ring back on my little finger.

“This is the ring, isn't it?”

“Yes,” I replied.

How the doctor found Baba

Here the story goes on:

I passed the night in great pain. Finally dawn arrived. The pain had increased a little and the area had become swollen also. After breakfast I pulled up a deck chair in front of the house and sat down to read the newspaper; as I was doing so a man hurried up to the house and stopped and stood there. He was staring at me and seemed to be thinking something over. I asked him in Angika: “What are you looking for? Do you want someone?”

“Mr. Sarkar,” he replied in Angika. “I came looking for you.”

I called him over. The gist of what he had to tell me was this: At about 10:00 the night before, after he had finished his evening meal, and just as he was getting ready to go to bed, something strange happened in his bedroom. He saw a huge gorilla standing in front of his cot, a monstrous creature, as black as ink.

“When I saw him I bolted upright in fear,” he said. “The gorilla told me very politely and gentlemanly not to be afraid. ‘I have come about an urgent matter,’ the gorilla said. ‘Mr. Sarkar has just fallen in a trench and his right leg has been badly dislocated. Go right now and set his leg. If you find him sleeping then wait until he wakes up. Don't wake him up.’ I started right then and there, Mr. Sarkar.

“Before leaving I asked the gorilla: ‘Where is Mr. Sarkar's house? How will I recognize him?’ ‘You don't have to worry about that,’ the gorilla replied. ‘When you come to a house and you find that you have stopped walking, then you will know that you are at the right place. You will find Mr. Sarkar in front of that house.’ And just like that, sir, I stopped walking in front of this house. And here I find you sitting and reading the newspaper. I already knew you so I had no difficulty recognizing you.”

“How is it that you already knew me?” I asked.

“I will tell you in a moment,” he replied.

Omnipresent Baba

Here the story concludes:

Ramjii Singh took hold of my right leg and very carefully jerked it two or three times. There was a low, indistinct sound, and the bone went back into its proper place. The pain subsided immediately and even stranger, the swelling went down right in front of my eyes.

When I offered him some remuneration he said: “Mr. Sarkar, I walked all night, and for that also you have already given me a reward.”

“How is that?”

“When I was passing that huge banyan tree on the way here a gentleman stepped out from behind it. He looked exactly like you. He was wearing exactly the same glasses, the same kind of blue shirt and a ring on the little finger of his right hand. This gentleman gave me a gold coin and told me: ‘Go quickly. Mr. Sarkar is in a lot of pain. Don't take any payment from him. I am giving this payment on his behalf.’

“Mr. Sarkar, I don't understand how you could have been standing under that banyan tree when your leg is in so much pain. How did you go there? My brain just isn't working. I immediately resolved to give you the gold coin and ask you to use it for flood relief in Monghyr District.”

Ramjii Singh bid me farewell and started back on the footpath towards Parsando village while I remained there, gazing at him as he went.

All my love

"Tomáke saompechi go paráń, tumi ki cáhibe phire..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0278)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, I am offering and surrendering my heart, mind, and whole existence unto Your lotus feet. I have only one desire: Please look towards me with Your sweet smile. Will You not look at me with love and affection? Today all my hopes and all my love that are centering around You have been fulfilled by having You as my own.

1st stanza: expanded meaning

O’ Parama Purusa, I have so much yearning for You. I am offering and surrendering my heart, my mind, and my whole existence unto Your lotus feet. My Lord, my whole life is for You - I only want You. I have only one single desire: Please look towards me with Your sweet smile. Will You not grace me by looking at me with love & affection? Lord, You are so gracious; today all my hopes and all my love that are centering around You have been fulfilled by having You as my own. You have granted me everything by coming close.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, my whole life revolves around You. Since ages, day and night, I have remained awake, waiting for Your august arrival - keeping my ear toward Your path in hopes of hearing Your footsteps. My Lord, each and every day I have threaded a new garland with fresh flowers to offer unto You. Yet, due to my melancholic longing, those garlands became drenched with my tears.

2nd stanza: expanded meaning

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, my whole life revolves around You. You are my everything. Since ages, day and night, I have remained awake, waiting for Your august arrival. My  Dearest, I have kept my ear toward Your path in hopes of hearing Your footsteps. I have been waiting anxiously - attentively. Lord, each and every day I have threaded a new garland with fresh flowers to offer unto You. Yet, due to my melancholic longing, those garlands became drenched with my tears.

Alas, I see in the crimson dawn of the eastern horizon, a glow is slowly appearing with a gentle smile. Parama Purusa, that smile is Yours. It is filled with forms and colours. I see You are coming towards me.

3rd stanza: expanded meaning

Alas, in the new crimson dawn of the eastern horizon, I see that a glow is slowly emanating with a gentle smile. Parama Purusa, that smile is Yours. It is filled with forms and colours. Your blessed smile satiates all my hopes and longings. Baba, You are so gracious - I see You are coming towards me.

O’ Parama Purusa, I am offering my mind unto You. Please look towards me with Your passionate eye. Please look at me with love and affection...

Pathway to mental health

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Now everywhere, in cent per cent of the cases, there is wastage of human psychic potentiality. The psychic potentialities of human beings are immense, but people do not utilize them because most of their valuable time is wasted in undesirable thoughts, in psychic extravaganza...wasted in petty or useless activities. How much time do people really get to devote to worthwhile tasks?"
"This psychic extravaganza should be checked either by physical approach, or psychic approach, or by spirituo-psychic approach..."
"I have already said that the scope of rationality and rationalization should be increased more and more, and for this, unnecessary waves should be removed from the plane of physicality. From the psychic sphere also, unnecessary waves are to be removed. This will remove many burdens from the mind. 'I must not bother about petty things, because that will waste my time' - people should remember this. This removal or rather withdrawal of unnecessary and undesirable thoughts emanated from the mind will help you in rationalizing the major portion of your mental faculty, so this must also be practised." (1)

Verily, in Baba’s above guideline He he clearly sets forth some key concepts:
(a) One should think of Parama Purusa all the time - i.e. all the 24hrs;
(b) When engaged in any type of mundane work - personal, family, social etc - then one must think and ideate that it is His work.

When a person adheres to these aforementioned principles then that is proper use of one’s psychic potentiality; failure to follow these principles results in misuse of one’s psychic potentiality, i.e. extravaganza.

Next Baba guides how to treat one who suffers from this type of improper thinking or extravaganza:
(a) Firstly, one should be removed - or remove oneself - from that physical environment;
(b) Next, such negative thinking must be removed from one’s own mind;
(c) Then one must goad the mind to Parama Purusa.

In result, one will have proper sadhana and be free from worry.

For digestive health

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments, “Digestive organs and livers in particular become very weak, and such children [and adults] normally turn out emaciated.” (1)

Here following is the reply on easily digestible sources of protein.

#1: These two are the top most as they are very digestible:
(a) spirulina: this is grown in South India, as well as in many other parts of the world.
(b) nutritional yeast (not brewer's yeast): this is available here in various health / organic food stores, as well as online.
For maximum absorption, best is to mix with water and drink alone. Do not mix with any other food and do not mix the spirulina with the yeast.

#2: The next tier down is flax seed:
Flax seed is excellent for easy digestion, brings energy, and is good for the brain and sadhana. Plus it is very cheap. Just grind and soak overnight and eat alone or with vegetable. It will bring a big energy boost. But do not eat more than 3 or 4 spoons of flax seed powder at one time. One other benefit is that this is also very good to carry, i.e. easy to have while touring.

#3a: Soaking beans and nuts for 48hrs (tossing the water multiple times during the soaking period and then boiling the end), makes them a lot  easier to digest.

#3b: Peanut milk, sesame milk, or soy milk can also be made. Just soak and blend, then strain it and give away the fiber for animals. You can drink a lot of protein in this way.

#4: Eating with proper food combinations. Take protein alone or with greens / leafy vegetables, but not with carbohydrates.

#5: Fermented foods (you can use special jars to ferment without rotting).

#6: Sprouted beans. Soak initially for 12 hours or more, and then rinse twice daily.

#7: Using spices like dill, ajwain, cumin, black cumin, anise, black pepper, and chicory root for bile.

#8a: Eat a minimal quantity in one sitting but eat frequently, even many times per day. Sick persons can take food multiple times as needed. Eat little then when hungry eat more.

#8b: Always have food prepared ahead of time so the moment hunger comes one can eat without delay.

#8c: But do not eat if one is not hungry.

#9: By following this then digestion will not be an issue.

#10: In old age, there is a shortage of digestive juice in the stomach. To overcome this, take apple cider vinegar which helps produce stomach digestive juices.
Regarding protein, staple foods (rice, roti etc) also contain small to moderate amounts of protein.

The above points will help anyone suffering from digestive issues; and, these above guidelines are borne out of the experience of various sadhakas.

In Him,
Vidya’

With regards to the number of times a patient may eat, here Baba talks about treatment of two different diseases. The basic idea is that when the system is weak then one should just eat small amounts of food at a time.

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, "It is also desirable to take a small quantity of food a greater number of times, rather than to eat a large amount at one time." (2)

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, "The patient should never eat much at a time. Instead, food should be eaten several times a day, eating only a small quantity each time." (3)

In the same spirit, you can eat as many times as needed a small quantity of food in order to maintain your health. Because that is the medical need. By taking a small amount many times during the day, the body will be able to digest and assimilate food in a more efficient and health-supportive manner.

It is just like how a weak person cannot carry 100 lbs at a time but can carry 10 lbs ten times. Or it is similar to how a car cannot be started in high gear, a lower gear is needed. That is why Baba guides us that those suffering from a digestive disorder or weak stomach should only eat a small amount of food at a time.
