Baba's guideline is that in our Ananda Marga we do not condone co-education with students who have reached the age of puberty, i.e. 11 or so. Let us also remember that our AM way of life fully supports and encourages women to be educated up to the highest rank. There is no question of women being denied the opportunity to be educated.
Baba's procedural office order
Here following is Baba own Procedural Order which states that our Ananda Marga schools must not be co-ed once children have reached the age of puberty.

As per rules, co-education is allowed in our Schools up to Standard V. but boys who are learning in Std. V or below but have crossed twelve years of age will not be permitted to study in any of our lady managed Schools. Similarly girls who are learning in Std. V or below but have crossed 11 years of age, shall not be allowed to study in our Schools (for boys).

Baba's guideline is very straightforward. Once children reach 11 years of age or enter into puberty then boys and girls must not be allowed to study together. That is a strict rule within our Ananda Marga system of education.
Furthermore, in this present era, when children are reaching puberty as early as 9 years of age due to unhealthy living patterns (processed foods, chemicals, meat etc), then we have to be acutely aware and not concern ourselves with age but with whether they have entered puberty or not.

Baba says, "From today itself, a Homeo-College, Electro-Homeo College and Ayurvedic College have been opened in Anandanagar. From tomorrow, a medical school is being opened for the training in different “pathies” A separate institution for girls is being opened at Uma Nivas. Certificate courses in NATAC (Naturopathy, Acupuncture and Chandsi) are also going to be offered soon. I hear that from 3rd October, 1990, a music college and fine arts college will be opened. A Textile Institute is also to be started soon in order to provide the textile-training for improving the self-reliance of the people. A branch of the same can also be opened for ladies." (1)
Baba has made everything extremely clear. Our institutions of higher education should be single-sex. That means an institution for gents and one for ladies. They must not both study in the same institution under the same faculty.
In today's world that is being ravaged by pseudo-culture, many propagate co-education because materialists always advocates the mixing of the sexes, in all kinds of circumstances including education. They like to see society plunged into degrading ways and habits. Why? Because then they too can do as they please. And that is what we see happening in materialistic nations.
Interest & curiosity should not be the opposite sex
Some may wonder the reasons for strictly separating adolescents according to gender during schooling. In reply here is a bulleted list:
1. When hormonal changes occur and the testes and ovaries become dominant glands, those youths become overrun by thoughts of the opposite sex - to the exclusion of everything else. So the attraction for the opposite sex is very strong.Baba’s order: No co-education after primary school
2. Teenagers do not have a developed frontal lobe of the brain. So they have a difficult time evaluation pros and cons and understanding the consequences. They are prone to doing wild things and taking huge risks.
3. Teens do not follow basic rules that are genuine and for their welfare.
4. School is the worst place for co-eds to mix. Students go to school to learn - to focus on particular subjects. Their interest and curiosity should not be on the opposite sex.
5. Placing adolescent co-ed’s together in school is extremely distracting and detrimental for their learning.
6. It is akin to cooking decomposed meats next to someone who is meditating. It is an intrusion and obvious distraction.
7. School should be a calm place; it should be a temple of learning. Mixing males and females together while in adolescence will wholly undermine the process of learning in school.

Our Ananda Marga system of education is for the all-round growth of human beings in all spheres of life. We want to encourage proper learning and sentient conduct. In contrast, in those lands where males and females study together in high schools and universities, the entire campus becomes a breeding ground for rampant sexual behaviour, date-rape and deviant activity. Animal behaviours are encouraged in such schools as they are only interested in collecting a high tuition and do not concern themselves with moral codes. But this is not our way. We are interested in educating the whole human personality so students develop into high-minded citizens. We do not want our students drowned in sexual dealings as happens in co-ed institutions.
In those pubescent years, boys and girls are overrun by nature and all kinds of hormonal reactions. This continues up to 18 to even 20 years of age or more. To put males and females in the same institution on the same campus is to invite serious problems. Their minds are easy captivated by lower propensities. We should not encourage this by having them live and study together.
Today's youths are tomorrow's leaders. While they are young we should not allow them to indulge in sensual dealings or encourage this in any way. We must not create the environment where they may indulge. Since for all practical purposes youths are full-time students, we should ensure that our institutions of education are single-sex. This is a foundational piece for imparting proper education and transforming our kids into proper leaders. That is what Baba wants.

Problems now in materialistic regions
For decades the the materialistic west has been the leader in pseudo-culture living. So many of the trends and dealings are born in such areas and spread all around the globe. But now the those areas are seeing first-hand the negative results, including in the education system. Such schools suffer from so many problems including rampant sexual misconduct. That is why some of the leaders in materialistic areas are re-thinking this formula and coming to the conclusion that education should not be mixed. Yet already they have exported their old model of co-education all around the globe. We too should not fall prey to this.
We should recall that this is not an emotive issue; we must not bow down to emotion. Rather as sadhakas of the Marga we are to adhere to Guru's guideline. So when Baba has given a system of education that is what we should follow. If anyone does not want to follow it then they can attend the hundreds or even thousands of other types of schools that are on this earth. But no one should try to dismantle the Ananda Marga system as given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji.
Compromise on the point of co-education is tragic
The religions like Islam and Catholicism have all kinds of illogical and dogmatic rules, but on the point of single-sex education their approach is admirable. Baba says if anyone is doing something good we should appreciate them on that point. Our rules also mandate that we should not offer co-education past a certain age, but unfortunately we are falling away from that gold standard. We are compromising on our ideals while those in the dogmatic religions are shining brightly on this point. This is a real tragedy: Failing to reflect our Ananda Marga teachings. By such compromises, people start eating meat, skip asanas, fail to do Ananda Marga dances and so many problems. Thus this manner of falling into compromise on the point of co-education is not good.

We have to remember that Baba has arranged life in Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha where we we maintain our sanctity by adhering to certain codes of conduct, not by compromising with our values. In the realm of male-female relations, our proper standard is separation, not free and sensuous mixing of the sexes.
Baba has mandated that everything in Ananda Marga should be separate: For example WWD, our relief activities (AMURTL), reportings, social service projects, LFT trainings, etc. There are all separate along gender lines. Here is a more complete list for your review:

1. Jagrtis are not shared between males and females for staying over or for office work.Thus, when our entire Ananda Marga way of life is separated along gender lines, it is shameful that some are going against Baba's edict and advocating co-education in our Ananda Marga education system.
2. Co-education is not practiced with students above 8 or 10 years of age, i.e. or above the age of puberty.
3. During dharmacakra, seminar, and classes, sadhana is done in distinctly different rows.
4. The organisation itself has an entire separate wing for females, WWD or Women’s Welfare Department.
5. Prout, AMURT, VSS etc also have separate sections for males and females.
6. Reporting is done separately.
7. LFT, Tattvika, and Acarya training is separate for males and females.
8. In-Charges are not mixed. Males are in-charges of males and females of females.
Note: Only in Central Office will the head of WWD be controlled by the General Secretary.
9. During DMS, kaoshikii was also performed separately.
10. Females do guard duty for females, and males for males; it is not mixed.
11. Akhanda kiirtana is done in a separate manner.
12. Madhur Sadhana is done according to gender, not with the opposite sex.
13. In any gathering, females & males do not participate together for games and sports.
14. All public processions are organised keeping males and females separate
15. And there are so many systems in place that ensure strict separation of the sexes.

मौत का फंदा - सामान्यतः सभी मनुष्य जन्म और मृत्यु के चक्कर में घूमते हैं, पर जब वे परम पुरुष के संपर्क में आ जाते हें तो मौत की ही मृत्यु हो जाती है और वे अन्तहीन जन्म और मृत्यु के चक्र से बच जाते हैं। परमपुरुष को “मृत्यु की मृत्यु” कहा गया है, क्योंकि परमपुरुष के संपर्क में आकर, परमपुरुष में मिल चुके साधक का मौत के बाद फिर से जन्म नहीं होता। अर्थात् मृत्यु की ही मृत्यु हो जाती है। इसलिये मौत के फंदे से बचने का एक ही उपाय है नियमित रूपसे साधना करना। (1)

हे परम सत्ता! तुम कौन हो जो अंधकार के महासागर को पार कर, ब्रह्मलोक से मेरे पास आये हो? तुमने यहाँ आकर --- उन फूलों को खिला दिया जो कभी खिले ही नहीं थे। जिनके मन जड़ हो चुके थे तुमने उनको आध्यात्मिक बना दिया। तुमने अपनी कृपा वर्षा कर इस संसार को मधुरता और प्रेम से भर दिया। हे दिव्य, हे प्रभु! तुम आये और आपनी कृपा कर मौत का फंदा तोड़ दिया, साधना सिखाकर मुक्ति का मार्ग दिखाया। तुमने मुझे अंतहीन जन्मों और मृत्युओं के चक्र से छुड़ाकर मोक्ष की राह दिखाई। हर परिस्थिति में मददकर और अपने पास बिठाकर तुमने मेरा भय दूर कर दिया है। तुमने मेरे हृदय को अपने प्रेम से भर दिया है। तुमने अपनी अहैतुकी कृपा से मेरे मन में परम आनन्द भर दिया है। हे परम सत्ता! तुम को पा जाने के बाद अन्य किसी वस्तु को पाने की चाह नहीं रहती। तुम्हारी कृपा से तुमको पा कर मैंने सब कुछ पा लिया है। मेरेी सब इच्छायें पूरी हो गयीं हैं अब और कोई भी इच्छा बाकी नही है। मैं जो कुछ चाहता था सब कुछ तुम्हारी कृपा से पा चुका। हे अपरिमित सत्ता! तुम कौन हो?
हे परमपुरुष! अपूर्णता से पूर्णता की ओर जाने वाले मेरे मार्ग में, जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में, तुम हमेशा मेरे साथ रहते हो। तुम मुझे इतना प्यार करते हैं कि मुझे भय ही नहीं है कि तुम मुझे छोड़ने वाले हो। दिन में, रात में, हर समय तुम मेरे साथ हो, मुझे मदद करने और मार्ग दर्शन देने के लिये हमेशा हो। तुमने अविद्या का काला पर्दा हटा दिया है और मेरी आॅंखें खोल दी हैं । अपनी कृपा से तुम मुझे गलत रास्ते से खींच कर सही रास्ते पर ले आये। तुमने मुझे वह दे दिया जो मैं सोच भी नहीं सकता था। मैंने कभी नहीं सोचा था कि मैं परम पुरुष को पा सकॅूंगा , मैं यह स्वप्न भी नहीं देख सका, पर आज तुमने मेरे लिये मेरी आशाओं और अपेक्षाओं से भी अधिक दे दिया है। तुम कितने दयालु हो!
हे मेरे प्रभु! तुमने मुझे आवश्यक सब चीजें दे दीं। तुमने मेरी भौतिक मानसिक और आध्यात्मिक सब प्रकार की आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति कर दी, है। हे मेरे परमप्रिय! मेरे ध्यान और साघना में तुम हमेशा आकर ऊषाकालीन लालिमा के साथ मुस्काते हो। यह तुम्हारी कृपा है, यह सब तुम्हारी ही कृपा है। भूत काल में मैं अनेक भौतिक वस्तुओं की चाह रखता था | पर अब तुम्हारी कृपा से मेरा मन एकाग्र हो चुका है और हे परम पुरुष! तुम्हारे अलावा मैं अब किसी को नहीं चाहता। तुमने मेरे मन में पूर्ण को पाने की इच्छा जाग्रत की और हृदय में अलौकिक रूप से आकर वह पूरी भी कर दी। जब तुम मेरे साथ हो तो अब और किस चीज की मुझे जरुरत होगी? नहीं , मुझे अब कोई अन्य इच्छा नहीं है। बाबा! कोई बात नहीं कि मैं कितना जान पाता हूॅं , वास्तव में मैं कुछ नहीं जानता , पर हे बाबा! तुम जो इतने कृपालु और स्नेही हो, कृपा कर अपनी बात तो बोलो?
टिप्पणीः
मौत का फंदा - सामान्यतः सभी मनुष्य जन्म और मृत्यु के चक्कर में घूमते हैं, पर जब वे परम पुरुष के संपर्क में आ जाते हें तो मौत की ही मृत्यु हो जाती है और वे अन्तहीन जन्म और मृत्यु के चक्र से बच जाते हैं। परमपुरुष को “मृत्यु की मृत्यु” कहा गया है, क्योंकि परमपुरुष के संपर्क में आकर, परमपुरुष में मिल चुके साधक का मौत के बाद फिर से जन्म नहीं होता। अर्थात् मृत्यु की ही मृत्यु हो जाती है। इसलिये मौत के फंदे से बचने का एक ही उपाय है नियमित रूपसे साधना करना। (1)
