How to help non-sadhakas + 3 more

Baba
How to help non-sadhakas

Namaskar,

Any sincere Ananda Ma’rgii who is propagating the spiritual teachings often experiences a common problem: the problem of people thinking that AM teachings are very difficult to follow to an extent of being “impractical”. After all, in most religions, there is a scope of consumerism which seems so natural to people. Some people do understand the value of the sublime teachings of AM like the use of sattvik vegetarian food but then think that “I cannot manage such a lifestyle as I cannot give up my old habits.” Most people in the world think on the aforementioned lines. The question then is how to help such people and bring them on the spiritual path.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Can’t give up meat-eating yet practice asanas

Baba has taught about the Ga’yattri Rk wherein a prayer for showing the right path to the Parama Puruśa has been given. Those who cannot follow other teachings of AM should be given the lesson on Ga’yattri Rk. Such people can then earnestly pray to Parama Puruśa for showing them the right path using the meaning of the Ga’yattri Rk in their mother tongue on a daily basis. The proper meaning of Ga’yattri Rk should also be explained to them. With this practice, gradually the desire for Parama Puruśa will arise in their minds. As Baba says, with an intense desire one attains Sadguru. The dogmatic people should be provided the same Vaidiki diiksha’ that the ancient rishis used to do. By the sincere and repeated chanting of the Ga’yattri Rk, they will become ready for the 1st lesson of Ananda Marga meditation.

Ananda Sutram says, “Muktyákáunkśayá sadgurupráptih.

[Out of the intense desire for mukti (liberation), one attains one’s sadguru (perfect master).]

Purport: When a vehement desire for emancipation wakes up in a person, he or she attains his or her sadguru [true spiritual preceptor] on the strength of that desire.” (1)

For those who do not want to believe in God

For those who want to learn meditation but do not want to believe in God should be provided the same lesson that is given to the children in AM. This lesson should be practiced twice daily at least for one minute in the beginning. The duration of mediation has no limit and can be increased based on one’s capacity to 2 - 5 minutes or even more. The meditation should be practiced once in the morning and once in the evening before the meal.

Like AM but cannot quit ta’masik food

Such people should be taught that they may continue their lifestyle but should practice Kirttana intensely. Even non-margiis can practice kiirtana. By the constant practice of kiirtana, the desire for Parama Puruśa will arise in their hearts and a gradual transformation will begin.

Conclusion

Those non-margiis who cannot follow the teachings of AM should be given the lesson on Ga’yattri Rk. Such people can then earnestly pray to Parama Puruśa for showing them the right path, using the meaning of the Ga’yattri Rk in their mother tongue on a daily basis. By the sincere and repeated chanting of the Ga’yattri Rk, they will become ready for the 1st lesson of Ananda Marga meditation.

Gayattri Rk

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “In ancient times there were two recognized stages in the process of initiation. The first one was Vaedikii diikśá, that is, initiation as per the Vaedik [Vedic] school of thought, and the second one was Tántrikii diikśá, that is, initiation as per Tantra. The most important mantra in Vaedikii diikśá was the “Gáyattrii Mantra”. The spirit of Vaedikii diikśá was to pray to God to get the proper path, the path of bliss; and the spirit of Tántrikii diikśá was to move along that path. In the first phase the aspirant requested God to show the path, and in the second phase the sádhaka had to move along that path. And this “Gáyattrii Mantra” was the most important mantra in Vaedikii diikśá.” (2)

Teaching meditation

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “When children are five years old and attain some awareness, the parents, brothers, sisters or any guardian may initiate them in Náma Mantra [the preliminary process of meditation]. They should be taught to sit in padmásana [lotus posture], but instead of interlocking the fingers, they may rest one palm upon the other; and keep the spine erect. They will then be instructed to feel or imagine that everything around them, and whatever they visualize, is Brahma.” (3)

Why junk food

The main thing is that spirituality brings a deep and irreversible transformation in an individual unlike intellectual persuasion which is superficial. With an intellectual persuasion, one may temporarily learn something, but it does not sow the seed of determination in one’s mind. A person who has learned something out of intellectual persuasion may compromise under extenuating circumstances. This is not the case for one who is guided by the power of spirituality. For example, consider a person who is following sattvika diet due to intellectual persuasion. When such a person undertakes a train journey wherein proper food is unavailable, they begin to think that, “If I do not eat then I’ll die of hunger” and may compromise with whatever junk food is available. One who is basing one’s decision on spirituality will have firm determination. Therefore, the main thing is spirituality; once the spirituality germinates in one’s heart the mind changes irreversibly and one can accomplish the greatest goal of life. Just like a small lit lamp is enough to end the reign of Cimmerian darkness, the ray of spirituality overcomes the darkness caused in one’s mind due to avidya’ma’ya’. With such an approach, the life will be fully transformed.

Your spiritual brilliance

"Ámi to tomáre bhávini jiivane, tumi mor kathá bhevecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0643)

Purport:

Parama Purusa, throughout my entire life I never thought, ideated, or meditated upon You properly, yet with affection You think about me always. Your arrival into my life is just Your causeless grace. In my narrow, shallow, and dry heart, in the deep corner of my mind, You have secretly come and made Your place, making my unhappy life full of bliss. Now You are showering Your compassion; it is Your ahetuki krpa upon me.

Baba, the accumulated clouds of uncertainty and dilemma which were overcasting my mind since ages due to my own ego, vanity, ignorance, and asmitá etc, all that gloom was removed in a flash. With spiritual vibration You pulled me close to You, showering Your causeless grace abundantly. You have done so much.

Parama Purusa Baba, You are the heavenly refulgence of the spiritual world and the life of the lifeless. You are the heart of my heart as well as my most intimate One. Please accept my surrender - my sastaunga pranam. You have showered Your spiritual brilliance and opened my eyes so I may see right from wrong. You have graciously given me patience to remain calm in all situations and lovingly bestowed samvit so that my unit consciousness can merge into Cosmic Consciousness. What have You not done - You have done everything.

Parama Purusa, in my life I never thought of You, nor did I do proper meditation. But even then You have loved me so much. Baba, You are ever-gracious...

Note For Prabhat Samgiita #0643:

[1] Asmita': Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Drkdarshanashaktyorekátmatevásmitá [“When people at the height of their foolishness forget the distinction between the subjective and objective counterparts, or confuse one with the other and say completely nonsensical things, that mental defect is known as asmitá”]. As asmitá is devoid of any discrimination, people with this mental defect lose their power of discrimination. First, they think that since they are so great, there is no need for them to learn anything from others. As a result of this, their further progress comes to a halt. Secondly, the arrogant attitude of this asmitá banishes from their minds the humble psychology of the learner. They lose interest in learning anything useful; so not only in the world of knowledge, but also in the world of practicality, they become misfits in life because of their mountainous accumulated ignorance."
"It is not that arrogance of this sort simply obstructs their progress. The human mind, like the human body, is dynamic. No one has come to remain here; everyone is moving – for movement is a must. Now, the mind whose further progress is blocked will also have to move this way or that; so when one must move, but the path of progress is blocked, one is compelled to move along the path of degradation. Thus the arrogance born of this asmitá will lead people towards their downfall. This arrogance, which makes them want to display themselves, forgetting all other things, is termed ahaḿkára [vanity]. The predominant vrtti behind it is aham [ego]: “I am everything, there is nothing beyond and outside me.”" (1)

[2] Samvit: Ananda Marga ideology states, "Samvit means spiritual consciousness, spiritual awakening. A man engaged in bad things all of a sudden feels that “No, I shouldn’t do all these things. No, I should be a good man henceforward.” Such an idea all of a sudden comes in his mind. And this thing, this change of mental tendency, is brought about by samvit shakti of Vidyámáyá. Do you follow? This is what is called samvit shakti. “No, henceforward I must be a good man. No, henceforward I must be a spiritualist. I must not encourage any depraving idea.” Samvit shakti." (2)

Banana uses

Ananda Marga Ideal Farming states, "Banana trees are known more for their fruits than for their fibre. Both the fruit and the flower can be eaten, and when the tree is young the inner trunk can be taken as a vegetable as well. The leaves are used for plates or for wrapping food. Sodium carbonate may be obtained from the banana tree by burning the trunk into ash, and sodium bicarbonate may be obtained by boiling the ash until the water evaporates. There are numerous products which can be made from the banana tree. The fibre is obtained from the trunk of the tree. The greater the size of a tree, the greater the quantity of fibre, but the same rule does not necessarily apply for the quantity of fruit produced by the banana tree. Not more than two offshoot saplings should be allowed to grow from one banana tree. The extra shoots should be cut. There are many varieties of banana." (1)

About initiating new people + 5 more

Baba
About initiating new people

Namaskar,

I was in the room when a few dadas were talking about giving initiation. At first they were just expressing their philosophies and approaches. One started saying that he initiates people as soon as possible, i.e. he will initiate anyone, anywhere. This dada felt that giving diiksa and assigning the mantra should be done speedily to one and all.

Then another dada looked up and said that this was not proper. Ananda Marga initiation is very special and one should show deep commitment before getting initiated. This dada began telling that he will only initiate a person if they (a) only eat sentient food, (b) have given up all kinds of intoxicants, and (c) refrain from all degrading, animalistic propensities for a given time period. Then and only then will he initiate them, otherwise not.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

A few others agreed with this perspective, while others thought this was too severe and by this way our Ananda Marga would not grow. Then one dada chimed in that giving initiation is a lot of work and time-taking: "I am so busy with my work that I do not have time to do initiations. So I request other acaryas to attend to this duty."

Then again someone said there should be strict limitations and restrictions on who could be initiated. Some nodded in agreement but others were not pleased by this method and insisted that as acaryas their role was to deliver spirituality to the masses - "bring all to the path of bliss". Finally, a few others countered that it was essential to be selective in giving diiksa otherwise the sanctity of Ananda Marga will be affected.

Keeping the aforementioned perspectives in mind, we now turn our attention to two dadas who share real life experiences on this topic of imparting diiksa.

How two Dadas failed to initiate

One Wt recounted a very moving situation wherein a person came to him for initiation and dada thought about it and told the person to come back the next week. In that short span of time the person died; he never got the chance to recite a siddha mantra in this life. Dada felt that ultimately he had wronged that person and committed a sin of omission (pratyavaya) by not initiating that person right away.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Not only that but Dada understood that if he had initiated the brother then that person would have done sadhana for a few days before dying, in which case he would have gotten liberation (mukti) at the time of death - as per The Supreme Command. Instead, that person died without ever having done sadhana because he was never initiated; so he has to face all past samskaras. And it was uncovered that this person was a sinner so he might not even get human life again, rather animal life or worse. So it is a double or triple loss. Because (a) Dada did not initiate that brother, the person could not get mukti, (b) instead that person had to undergo terrible degeneration because of his samskaras. And finally, (c) Dada committed a sin of omission.

Hearing the above account, another dada said that he too had told an aspirant to come back in the next few days for initiation. In that period, dada was deported from the country and the person did not receive initiation as no other workers were in that area. This worker too felt remorse for not acting on the opportunity to give initiation. So this raised the query: How quickly should one get initiated?

More Wts join the debate

In response, two more dadas got involved in the debate. One dada was stating that he waits till a person is perfectly ready for receiving initiation - and that there is no other way. Then a second dada countered, "Oh I see, so every person you have initiated has become a Wt." The first dada kept mum as he understood the inner meaning. On this point he had to admit defeat since so many of those whom he had initiated had left Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha and left sadhana. No matter how hard one tries, not all initiated persons are going to stay. That second dada furthermore added that he prefers to initiate all kinds of people relatively quickly, so long as they express some basic interest in learning sadhana. Even then, he said it is surprising. Some who seem serious leave, while others surprise him by becoming strong sadhakas.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

The culminating consensus from the debate amongst those Wts is that people should get initiated as soon as possible, especially if the candidate shows even a little interest in yoga or spirituality. Once diiksa is given, then the person truly has the opportunity to progress on the path. And that is the quintessence of human life. Verily Sadguru Baba guides us of the importance of getting all the lessons of sadhana in a timely way. And that is impossible if one does not at least get initiated.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Human life is short. It is wise to get all the instructions regarding sádhaná as soon as possible." (1)

So our acaryas should aim to initiate a maximum amount of people, bringing all unto the path of bliss.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Anand Sagar

All told those Dadas who withhold and refrain from giving diiksa to interested parties are no different from the negative pseudo-guru Marpa who refused to teach sadhana to Milarepa because the dogmatic tradition was to withhold the teachings from the disciple for as long as possible. Those days the "gurus" were more concerned with preserving their own prestige so they preferred not to share their teachings and instead assigned arduous physical tasks to keep their disciples busy and test their loyalty. In a similar manner, acaryas should not have a long list of requirements that a person must meet before getting initiation. Rather, one should be keen to give people initiation so they can come under the shelter of Guru at the earliest.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

~ In-depth study ~

Here are a few teachings from Sadguru Baba.

(A) First Baba guides us that liberation is a sure guarantee, but one cannot get mukti if they are not initiated and ultimately practicing sadhana. In service to others, we should be vigilant to initiate one and all.

The Supreme Command states, "Those who perform sadhana twice a day regularly, the thought of Parama Purusa will certainly arise in their mind at the time of death; their liberation is a sure guarantee..." (2)

(B) Here below Baba graciously declares that "dharma is the property of the masses." Therefore all should have access to the lessons of sadhana.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Today, you should remember that Ananda Marga is not limited to a handful of honest and intellectual people. Rather, it is trying to rally thousands of people under the banner of one sublime ideology. I dedicate Ananda Marga in this DMC [Dharma Mahácakra: a spiritual gathering during which the Guru delivers several discourses] to all sections of society. Prior to this DMC, I would only discuss intellectual topics, but from this DMC onwards I have become a man of the people because I believe that dharma is the property of the masses, not the exclusive monopoly of a handful of so-called educated middle class elite. Dharma belongs to one and all. From this DMC, I recognize it as the property of the common people." (3)

Horrific effect of religion

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "On the basis of religion human beings group together and indulge in internecine feuds. Such religions are responsible for spilling the blood of innocent men and women. I don't want to single out any religion as most do not follow the path of logic. Instead they prefer to inject a certain type of cheap sentiment into the human mind to cripple the intellect and impair rational judgement.”

Majhabme akkalká dakhl nehi hae.

[In religion there is no room for logical argument.]

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In actual fact it makes the clear thinking of the human mind turbid. Religion has always commanded its followers to abide by its tenets. Those who dared show any logic were injected with a kind of fear complex. Moreover, the followers of the religions declared that their teachings were the revelations of God and had to be dutifully followed. Out of fear people submitted to this mandate. This is the basic defect of religion. On the basis of this hundreds of so-called scriptures were written in ambiguous language. Anything that destroys free thinking should not be called a scripture at all. Only that which develops the spontaneous development of human beings deserves to be called a scripture." (1)

Spa care

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "The practices given below are prescribed only for specific diseases. Therefore, they are to be performed only after consultation with an a'ca'rya."

"Vistrta sna'na or vya'paka sna'na: A bathtub is most convenient, but if this is not available, an earthen trough will suffice. If this is not available either, a wet towel can be used, soaking it repeatedly in water. Fill the bathtub with cold water, and sit in it undressed so that  the area from the navel down remains submerged. Keep your feet dry and out of the tub. The area from the neck to the navel should be kept covered with a shirt or dry cloth. The crown of the head and the back of the head should be kept covered with a wet towel."

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "Now take another towel and rub the area from the right side of the abdomen to the groin seven or eight times. Do likewise on the left-hand side and horizontally from right to left and left to right. You should make sure that the towel on the head remains wet."

"After this, wipe the abdomen, hands and thighs and take a full bath. If this is not possible, then leave the tub wearing a shirt."

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "This should be practised behind closed doors. In the absence of a bathtub or an earthen trough, a wet towel may be wrapped around the areas to be bathed, but in order to compensate, cold water must be poured constantly over the towel, and the towel which is to be used for the massage must be kept wet. After vya'paka sna'na, the thighs, pubic area and abdomen should be warmed with a dry towel."

"Before and after this bath one should not eat, in order to allow the stomach to rest." (1)

Why victims of exploitation

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The exploited people are not even aware that they are being exploited. This is why it is easy to exploit them in the social sphere, then create inferiority complexes in their minds to keep them under prolonged administrative domination and perpetuate the exploitation. This is easily done by the cunning exploiters. And the tragedy is that the exploited mass do not try to understand – they cannot understand, and they even refuse to understand – that they are victims of exploitation. So this is more dangerous.” (1)

Foolishness of atheists

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Self-awareness develops through clash. The awareness that develops through physical clash is termed jadábuddhi [crude physical intellect] because it is associated with jadá [matter]. The consciousness of animals and undeveloped human beings is matter-oriented. But even in developed human society, if someone is an atheist or a materialist, we can only term their intellect as jadábuddhi. Such people deny the existence of spirituality in order to hide their intellectual deficiencies. Their denial betrays their moral and intellectual bankruptcy. It does not speak of their glory, nor does it diminish the value of spirituality." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Devotion plays a positive role in the process of clash. Had there been no factor to maintain the balance among all the objects created within the Macrocosmic Mind, the entire structure of the universe would have fallen apart. For the sake of harmony and balance within the universe, there is a mutual attraction among all the objects; each microcosm attracts the other microcosms. All finite microcosms – the innumerable manifestations of the Supreme Entity – are entitled to that universal love with which It has bound each microcosm to Itself, entitled to the wave of that universal love, in which Its divine ocean of bliss is perennially flowing. Attraction is the innate characteristic of microcosms. When this attraction is for finite objects, it is called káma [“physical longing”], and when it surges towards the Cosmic Entity, it is called prema [“divine love”]. Of course, káma is nothing but a limited form of prema. When microcosms rush towards Parama Puruśa [Supreme Consciousness] attracted by the irresistible force of divine love, it is termed “devotion”. Since clash drives the microcosms towards subtlety, it follows that clash must be the sustainer of devotion." (2)

Hasten that auspicious moment

Original Ananda Vanii states: “The fact that the fortune of every individual, not only of this earth but of the entire cosmos, has been wreathed together, will have to be admitted one day by people. The spiritual aspirant has to hasten that auspicious moment by pauseless effort, service and propagation of the great Ideology. This alone is the Supreme task for the present humanity.”  (Ananda Vanii #30)

Note: Sadguru Baba has assigned a number to all His original and true Ananda Vaniis. In contrast, Fake Ananda Vaniis do not have any number. By this simple formula, one can easily recognise which is a true Ananda Vanii and which is fake. For the upcoming occasion of January 1st 2017, all Ananda Marga units should use one of Baba’s original and true Ananda Vaniis, not a fake one. By this way, one will surely get His blessing.

How people are being educated

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The system of education prevailing today was formulated or evolved long ago, mainly with a view to suit the needs of the capitalist class. For the last three to four thousand years, the same type of education is being imparted. The main purpose behind this sort of educational system is to create persons with a slavish mentality to fulfill need of those capitalist exploiters. This sort of education is fundamentally defective. It is certain that this type of education which serves the capitalists' interests is not at all suitable. This sort of education creates obstacles in the evolution of humanity. We have to thoroughly revamp the entire educational system. A new educational system must evolve to produce sadvipras." (1)

Note: Those who are bragging about the standard of their education should know what type & what category of knowledge they have. In this regard, we should ponder Sadguru Baba's above guideline.

Margiis also tantrikas + 3 more

Baba
Margiis also tantrikas

Namaskar,

The system of Ananda Marga sadhana is tantra sadhana. Hence each and every margii or Wt who is practicing namah mantra, sahaja yoga, or vishesha yoga is a tántrika.

Every margii is a tántrika

The sadhana which Baba has taught us is the very essence of the tántric sadhana practice. And not in one discourse but in so many discourses Baba has given the directive that all Ananda Margiis are tantrikas. And tantrikas visit the cemetery for sadhana.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

But those who do not know Ananda Marga ideology say that kapalika sadhana is the only tántric sadhana. But the reality is that every Ananda Margii is doing tantra sadhana. And all tantrikas should visit the cemetery to boost their sadhana. By this example of Shravanii Purnima, Baba is teaching us that even beginners learning sadhana on the very first day should go and practice sadhana in the cemetery. And Baba demonstrated this by giving diiksa to Kalicharan in the cemetery.

Countless sadhakas have realised that their concentration and ideation is better because by doing sadhana in the cemetery their mind gets more pointed; and, ultimately they feel more vibrated and gain a stronger spiritual feeling by doing cemetery sadhana. So altogether there is no comparison between sadhana inside the house and sadhana in the cemetery. And if one is not habituated with doing sadhana in the cemetery, then they can begin by going in the daytime and finding a nice, quiet place to sit. And when one is accustomed to going in broad daylight they can try the evening time and eventually in the nighttime.

Sadhana in the cemetery

Unfortunately, some oppose the idea of margiis going and doing sadhana in the cemetery as those persons think they will lose prestige. But this complex and dogma should be rooted out. And what better occasion than the upcoming celebration of Shravanii Purnima in August, to remind us that cemetery sadhana is very important. Because the birth of our Ananda Marga spiritual practices took place in the cemetery in 1939 when Baba gave the first initiation to Kalicharan ji in the cremation grounds. So in the true sense, Shravanii Purnima is the birth of Ananda Marga practices, and then after sixteen years the organisation, Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, was formed in 1955.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Sadhana is very important in human life. And by the unique event of Shravanii Purnima, Baba is giving the special guideline that everyone should do cemetery sadhana. Indeed, cemetery sadhana boosts one’s concentration.

Conclusion

When more Ananda Margiis are deeply involved in spiritual practices then with that enhanced spiritual feeling and expansive mind, all types of problems can be solved - both in individual life, social life, and collective life. Sadguru Baba has bestowed us with innumerable gifts and treasures, and among them cemetery sadhana is one that should be utilised by one and all.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Sundar

Note: This year Shravanii Purnima is on Saturday, 09 August 2025.

Narrow-mindedness is disease

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The diseases of humanity are the result of not having bhu'madrs't'i (Cosmic outlook) in life. The diseased persons do not consider others, but think only about themselves. They are busy thinking about their own families, employers, etc., and they forget everyone else. This is a terrible malady. But it is a mere expression and symptom of narrow-mindedness, the real root and reason for psychological disease. The cure is to reverse the trend of behaviour to rid the fallen human beings of narrow-mindedness. The medicine is one and only one: Brahmabha'va [ideation on Supreme Consciousness]." (1)

By doing sadhana all sorts of problems can be solved as well as countless issues of the collective humanity.

My yearning

“Bhálobáso shudhui mukhe, d́eke d́eke mari tabu ásoná, bojhoná tumi ámár duhkhe...” (Prabhat Samgiita #0357)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, You only love me with Your words, not in the real sense. You say You have prema for me, but I do not see this by Your action. I call You over and over again, yet You do not come. There is nothing You do that makes me feel like You have deep affection for me. You remain far. So then how can I think that You care for me. You do not understand the pain of my yearning.

O’ Parama Purusa, with the help of Your spiritual science of sadhana and philosophy, I go on searching for You in the depths of my ‘I feeling’. But how can I get You when You just make my mind restless. In that condition, my mental plate becomes opaque. I cannot see You anywhere within. Lord, in the murky waters of my mind, You gleefully hide. This is Your liila. You are there in my mind, but I can’t see You.

O’ Baba, my Nearmost, this vast creation is very attractive and colourful. You have decorated this and arranged a festival of colour and form across this entire universe. You are engaged in displaying a myriad of divine liilas. People are captivated by Your liila, and they have no clue about Liilamaya. They do not know You. Yet, behind the curtain of Your liila, You smile softly, watching everything and everyone. My Supreme One, who can see You without Your grace? Parama Purusa Baba, please shower me with Your causeless mercy, so I can see You everywhere and get You from behind the curtain of Your liila.

O’ Baba, please satisfy my longing and bathe me in Your prema…

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #0357

When a bhakta has deep prema for Parama Purusa then they want Him in that most intimate and loving way. So when Parama Purusa does not respond or reciprocate in that intimate manner and does not come very close, then the bhakta lovingly accuses Parama Purusa that, "You do not love me the way I love You. Otherwise You would be coming close." This highly spiritual scene results only when one has a deep longing and desire to have Him close. It is similar to how a small child calls for his mother while she is busy. And when finally the mother returns home, the young child with tear-filled eyes will accuse her by saying, “Mother, you have no love for me; you do not love me at all; otherwise why were you gone so long.” This is the way the child will accuse its mother due to the child’s deep love for their mother. In this above Prabhat Samgiita, the bhakta is making the same type of accusation of prema towards Parama Purusa.

This type of mixing food is deadly

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments states, “If any person is long habituated to eating badly-combined foods, such as meat, fish, eggs and similar támasika foods immediately before or after milk, kśiira [a kind of rice pudding] and similar sáttvika foods, then those foods create a favourable condition in the body for tuberculosis.” (1)

Note: In His above teaching, Baba warns us how tamasika foods combined with milk etc make the body prone towards tuberculosis.

Virudddha ahar in AM is any food which causes a very bad reaction in the body, by mixing it with other food. For example, if one eats a full meal and then takes some sweets for dessert, that is okay; but, it will then be very negative to eat sour pickles on top of all that other food. Similarly, combining meat and milk is very negative. These are combinations that are bad for everyone, and there are many more as well. Then, on top of that those who have poor digestion have a long list of foods which they can't mix.

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments states, “If any person is long habituated to eating badly-combined foods, such as meat, fish, eggs and similar támasika foods immediately before or after milk, kśiira [a kind of rice pudding] and similar sáttvika foods, then those foods create a favourable condition in the body for tuberculosis.” (Yogic Treatments and Natural Remedies, Tuberculosis)

Prevalent fish-eaters

Here is an English summary of Baba’s teaching from in Bengali from Shabda Cayanika - 20, (Bangla), Disc #156:

Fish quarrel so much among themselves; they are quarrel mongers. They eat each other; they feel jealous towards one another; and, they also have the tendency to wander around aimlessly in an undisciplined, disorderly manner. Because fish have these negative qualities, the general public has long thought that those who eat fish become contaminated by these same defects. (English Summary)

Note: Amongst all of India, the most densely populated fish-eating area is Bengal. Baba says that the majority of the population of Bengal is kaevarta (fisherman community). Throughout Bengal, there are a huge number of lakes, ponds, rivers, and water sources; that is why fish flourish there. In Bengal fish are known as "water fruit". Except for very strict, devoted margiis - which are very few in number there - most of them like to eat fish.

Who has proper composure

Ananda Marga ideology says, “Imagine a scoundrel is standing in front of you. The man is such a rogue that you feel like slapping him, but do not actually do it. It is only when you decide, ‘Let me slap that scoundrel’, that your hands actually strike him. When the inner urge to externalise the feeling becomes strong enough, your hands leap into action. A great person is one who has complete control over the externalisation of thoughts. A thought will not always be expressed physically. One may have a desire to hit someone or a desire to steal, but never actually does it due to one’s self control.” (1)

Note: Various people react differently to the same set of circumstances. For example, if one person in the market suddenly abused Mr. A and Mr. Bhen Mr. A and Mr B will react differently. By listening to the unjust abuse, Mr A violently kicked the fellow in his stomach and that person died. So Mr. A got arrested and convicted in court on charges of capitalist punishment. In contrast, when the same person abused Mr. B then Mr. B remained calm and patient to see how the situation developed.

According to the above teaching, Mr A has a weak mind because of his hasty, knee-jerk reaction. Whereas Mr B has a stronger mind as he exercised restraint over his motor organs. The final teaching is, “Do not react immediately - try to have control over your organs and do not allow your hands and feet (i.e. motor organs) to quickly jump into action.” For that mental force is needed. Otherwise those organs will react automatically. This is the rare and greatest teaching that is described in the above guideline.

In Him,
Dayadhiisha Deva

Tragic case of extermination

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In India some rhinos still exist; they are found in the Duars region of North Bengal and upper Assam, the temperate plains of Bhutan and central Nepal. Everywhere they are counting the days until their final extinction. Human beings of ancient times believed that the medicine made from the rhino's horn could rejuvenate them. So the cruel practice of poaching rhinos prevailed in every age and continues to prevail even today. The situation has come to such a pass that the few one-horned or two-horned rhinos that still remain may disappear any time from the face of the earth. Although there is a slight increase in their population in the Kaziranga Sanctuary of Assam, one rarely comes across them in ordinary forests. The medicinal properties of the rhino horn are neither a verified truth nor has it any scientific basis. Is it not extremely abominable to exterminate an  innocent creature due to some wrong notion?” (1)
