Today’s politics & solution

Namaskar,

In His discourse "Problems of the Day", Shrii PR Sarkar warns us of the dangers of party politics.

Party politics: is like deadly disease

Prout philosophy states, "Party politics is one of the factors which stands, or tries to stand, in the way of human unity. In fact party politics is even more dangerous than disease-causing germs. In party politics all the refined attributes of the human mind, such as simplicity and the spirit of service, slowly but surely get totally destroyed. Party affiliation commands more respect than individual ability; service to self, not service to people, is the main motto; ministerial office, rather than human welfare, is considered superior; and mass deception, political somersaults, etc., are most common phenomena."
"Instead of rectifying themselves, politicians want to accomplish everything through their grandiloquence. By identifying the weaknesses in others and by resorting to bombastic language, they incite one section of people against another so that they can usurp the seat of power and cling to it. Human beings will have to remain vigilant against persons of this type."
"Politicians want to poke their noses into every aspect of life: social, religious, educational, literary, etc. Under the hypnotic spell of power, politicians remain oblivious of the fact that experience and wisdom in various spheres of life cannot be acquired by merely mouthing high-sounding slogans from public platforms." (1)

Example: hypocrisy in party politics

Here is the common phenomenon in party politics. When a member of their own political party is immersed in crime or scandal then they try to protect that person based on party loyalty. Whereas if a member of a competing party is involved in that same time of crime or scandal, then they will blow the trumpets and try to tear down that person—along with their party. They will try to blow that event up to the sky so everyone knows about it. Yet when their own party member is to blame for the same misdeed, they will keep it hush-hush or cover it up completely. This is the unfortunate strategy and psychology of party politics. They want to save their own members who are criminals and blame the other party even when that opposing party is doing good works. Their mentality is no different from violent street gangs or mafia families etc.

How party politics is poisonous

The defining characteristic of the party is that they only work for their own party interest, not the welfare of the society. In the very initial period when they were first formed, parties do have the public interest in mind, but that quickly fades into oblivion. And thereafter their only interest is the party agenda. That is the main reason why Prout vehemently opposes the party system—it does not serve the public good.

All in all, there should not be any political parties. Each candidate should run on their own political contacts and policies—without any party affiliation. The public will vote for the individual whose platform best serves the people. Then the winning candidate will be given scope to form their governmental bodies and cabinet.

Only then can a stable and functional government be formed. It is just like the joint family system. Such families do not form parties or groups or divisive factions. When a problem arises they resolve it on a case by case basis, in a united manner. If there are factions or clans within that joint family then either that family will be divided or they will not reside in the same house.

Thus, only after the removal of the political party system can a truly effective and benevolent government be formed—one which serves and watches the well-being of the common people.

Party politics pulverizes the psychic wealth of human beings

Prout philosophy states, "Honest and benevolent individuals should carefully steer clear of party politics. The question may arise, In the absence of party politics, will honest individuals succeed on their own in forming governments or in serving the state? Is there any necessity for organized endeavour? In answer to this question I will say that those who are honest, who really want to promote human welfare, and who believe in a world government and the ideals of Ánanda Parivára [a blissful, universal family], must possess the spirit of mutual cooperation. They may form themselves into boards exclusively for the purpose of rendering social service collectively (and not for fomenting politics), but it will not be proper for such boards to contest elections."
"People should cast their votes for deserving human beings – not for the lamppost holding the party ticket."
"To further the interests of the party, party politics may publicly oppose something which is often secretly encouraged. Communalism, provincialism, casteism, etc. – none of these are considered bad for the sake of party interests. The only identity of human beings is that they are humans – living beings. Party politics strives to keep people oblivious of this fact – it tries to pulverize the psychic wealth of human beings under the steamroller of party interests." (2)

Politicians cause suffering to millions of people

Prout philosophy states, "By merely delivering a few fiery lectures before less intelligent common people, the protagonists of party politics tear apart all the hopes and aspirations of the common people and undermine their prosperity. Various bizarre ideas jumble the minds of the common people, and they become dumbstruck." (3)

Prout mandates, "Proutists have to fight against today's party politics. Proutists are not against politics or political science, but they have to fight against professional politicians. Only Sadvipras have the right to engage in politics; other people should be swept out from the field of politics. Political leaders depend on physical power. Though they talk of non-violence, they are guarded by the police force. Physical power is the crudest manifestation of energy. Sadvipras will use intuitional power – intellectual and physical power will work as their slaves, to be used according to the indications of intuitional power. It therefore goes without saying that a Sadvipra is stronger than a political leader." (4)

As the candidates around the globe ready themselves for upcoming elections, we can see how the entire field is being painted in party politics. This stands as yet another reminder how this party system fails to represent the finer aspects of humanity.

Shrii PR Sarkar says, "The common people can be temporarily bewildered by the chicanery of party politics, and this is especially so when politicians happen to be good orators. By the power of their oratory, politicians try to escape from the consequences of their misdeeds. It is noticeable that politicians, to further their party interests and to enhance their individual power and position, do not hesitate even to cause suffering to millions of people. Perhaps, out of a sense of duty, the common people should impeach (in a court of justice) culpable politicians." (5)

Party politics & groupism are same & must be eliminated

Party politics and groupism are the same—and must be eliminated. Here is the tragic scene unfolding in AMPS that we should all be aware about.

All the flaws of typical party politics that we see in the general society are rampant within the various groups in AMPS nowadays. Not only that, the groupism in AMPS is worse than the party politics in the general society. Because in AMPS the judiciary is dead. Often Wts are no longer thought of as individual sadhakas and adherents of dharma, but rather as members of a particular group. That is their identity. In that case, favouritism and partiality is based exclusively on group affiliation, not on a rational approach. Sadly, the groupism in AMPS is worse than party politics in the general society because in AMPS the judiciary is a kangaroo court.

Painting Your glory

"A'mi toma'y keno bha'loba'si..." (Prabhat Samgiita #1891)

Purport:

Parama Purusa, when I ask myself why I have fallen in love with You - and why I cry for Your proximity and smile in joy when I get You - and when I pose all these questions to my mind, then I do not get any answer. Just this loving feeling for You is beyond my capacity to explain. It is Your liila.

Parama Purusa, I love You - even then You do not look towards me. And when composing Your love songs then You do not use those songs to communicate with me. Why I love You, I do not know - neither You look towards me nor do You share the feeling of Your heart through the medium of Your songs. Indeed You do not do anything that touches the inner feeling of my heart. I am unable to make the bouquet of flowers blossom that resides in the inner core of my heart. It is so painful.

In the pre-winter evening I think about You; in the moonlit night of the spring season I see Your image. In that way secretly and silently I go on painting Your glory. And at the same time I listen to Your flute in my heart.

Parama Purusa why I love You I do not know. And when I ask myself why I have fallen in love with You, I cannot find any reason or logic. Just by Your grace it has happened - my heart is longing for You & and I laugh and cry for You. Baba Your liila unfathomable...

Note: It is the common human experience that when anyone comes across anything beautiful, then they like to share that with those whom they love. That is why in those attractive seasons pre-winter and spring, when the weather is perfect, then automatically the bhakta wishes that such beauty could be shared with their beloved.

Enemies, bondages, & vrttis

The following is a basic overview of how the internal enemies, external bondages, and psychic propensities bind human beings.

(A) Ripus:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Avidyámáyá is the creator of the śad́ripu (six enemies)...Káma (longing for earthly objects), krodha (anger), lobha (avarice), moha (attraction), mada (vanity) and mátsarya (envy) are the six enemies...Śat́ means “six” and ripu means “enemies”. These six faculties in human beings are termed as enemies, as they absorb the mind in crudeness and stop its march towards the subtle. The supreme rank for unit consciousness is subtle, and anything which holds it back from reaching the supreme rank, is its enemy. These six faculties are, therefore, termed as six enemies." (1)

(B) Fetters / Bondages:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Avidyámáyá is the creator of the...aśt́apásha (eight fetters)....bhaya (fear), lajjá (shame), ghrńá (hatred), shauṋká (doubt), kula (high descent), shiila (complex of culture), mána (vanity) and jugupsá (backbiting) are the eight fetters...Aśt́apásha means the eight fetters. Anyone bound by fetters will lose his or her capacity of movement. In the creation we find the movement of human beings is from the crude to the subtle. That is, human beings have to move towards the subtle, but by their leaning towards the eight fetters such as lajjá, bhaya, and ghrńá, they get absorbed in crude things only and their progress towards the subtle is stopped." (2)

Key difference: six enemies (śad́ripu) vs eight fetters (aśt́apásha)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "These are the eight external bondages, or imposed bondages. One must fight against these imposed bondages, one must wage war against these bondages. And then there are the six ripu. Ripu means “internal enemies” – not imposed saḿskáras, [not] imposed bondage, but inborn bondage." (3)

(C) Vrttis:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "In the human body there are approximately fifty vrttis or propensities of minds. The degree of intensity of these fifty vrttis depends upon the different glandular secretions of the body. Thus proper functioning of the mind depends upon the different glandular secretions of the body, upon the afferent power of the nerve-fibres and upon the capacity of the nerve cells to vibrate thought." (4)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Human beings have fifty vrttis (psychic urges), and those fifty vrttis are also complex in their functioning. As the vrttis become more complex, so do their functions. A vrtti can either be kept within one's mind or it can be externalized. One can steal both mentally and in the external world. Hence, as each of these fifty vrttis can be expressed both internally and externally, there are one hundred possible expressions. These hundred expressions can be expressed in ten directions: six “pradisha” directions: north, south, east, west, above, and below; and four “anudisha” directions: northeast, southeast, northwest and southwest. So the total number of expressions comes to (100 x 10 =) 1,000! That is why the pineal gland is called sahasrara cakra or “that which expresses itself in one thousand directions.” (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The human propensities that operate in the mundane sphere are five in number: áhár [food], nidrá [sleep], bhaya [fear], maethuna [begetting progeny] and dharma sádhaná [spiritual practice]....The peculiar nature of these five propensities [and all vrttis] is this: if they are given indulgence, they increase." Raising liars: Santa Claus syndrome

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “When the parents are about to go on a trip or go to a show, or when they are invited to a pleasant function or a social outing, the children may start whining or nattering to accompany them. At such times many parents tell lies without a qualm; somehow they dupe their children and leave. When the children realize what has happened, they also learn to tell lies; and to hide their intentions or their actions from their parents, they gradually start lying more and more.”
“Parents deceive their children in many ways. By calling sweet things bitter and pleasant things unpleasant, they prevent their children from enjoying them. But by disregarding parental injunctions and prying inquisitively, as is the wont of human nature, children discover the truth. Then they realize that their parents have been deceiving them. As a result they start deceiving not only their parents, but their friends and classmates as well. So it is abundantly clear that children are taught the first lessons in the arts of lying and deception by their own parents at home.” (1)

Note: Baba’s above teaching shows how lying and cheating first starts in the home - i.e. kids learn from their parents. This gets exhibited in so many ways - amongst all populations. This occurs even during the holidays and times of celebration. For instance, those from a Christian background teach their children to believe in Santa Claus - an imaginary man with a big belly and a long white beard who comes down the chimney and brings gifts to children. And when Santa Claus is not delivering gifts around the planet then he resides at the North Pole. Another example of an imaginary holiday creature is the Easter Bunny. These are both fake and fabricated entities. But for the first years of their lives, kids are naively and innocently led to believe that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are real. This is taught to them first and foremost by their parents. And the children believe it wholeheartedly. These are some of their most graphic childhood memories - and yet it is all based on falsehood. Inevitably, by the age of 7, 8, 9, or 10 etc, those kids realise that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are real and that they have been lied to - i.e. duped. And it is at that moment they learn how to deceive and befool others in the same manner.

Similarly Hindus befool kids by telling them tales, lies, and stories that the mythological monkey God is real. And they show them the idol to show the monkey god exists. In turn children really believe the monkey god flew from point A to point B carrying a mountain. Even after growing up, many carry this dogma their whole life.

Conclusion

(a) Before telling any story, parents should be careful not to tell anything which is false.
(b) If a child is asking a question and you do not know the answer, then do not tell them a lie. Best is to say, "I do not know. I will try and find the answer for you."
(c) The worst thing is to tell them something false. And the absolute worst is to terrorise them by saying, "Do not ask anymore questions." Small kids especially ask a lot of questions to all those who are around. That time is crucial not to shut them up. Those who shut up children stymie and stun their psychic progress.
(d) Remember inquisitiveness is the greatest thing in human life as it leads to all sorts of progress. So do not crush their inquisitiveness.
