Mother started weeping with joy + 2 more

Baba
Mother started weeping with joy

Namaskar,

Those days Dada Yatiishvarananda was in charge of America, and I was in charge of Europe. One day Baba summoned both of us. We hastened to Him. He looked at us, and, in front of those present, Baba said, “You two stupids!” Pointing directly at me, Baba said, “He destroyed Europe!”, and pointing to Dada Yatiishvarananda, Baba said, “He destroyed America!” Then Baba ordered, “Transfer them both!”
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Up until that moment, I had been the SS of Berlin sector for the past 15 years, since 1972, and I thought Baba was joking, but it was the real transfer.

Baba changes the rules

When I realized I was going to South America, which was comprised of mostly poor countries those days, I planned that I would first go to Berlin sector and pick up some money as all the accounts were in my hand. No sooner had I thought that, Baba gave the new rule that those transferred to a new sector are not allowed to go back to their old sector. They must go directly to their new posting. So Baba effectively put a complete halt to my plan to go back to Berlin sector to collect some money.

Moreover, Baba changed the rule for reporting. The old rule was that those working outside India had to come every six months for RDS, but that day Baba gave the mandate that those working outside had to come every two weeks for reporting. At that time, the cost to travel from South America to Delhi was RS 60,000. I thought, “Baba, how will I be able to come to India every two weeks as that is such a huge expense.” Anyway, I thought that somehow with great difficulty I will go to South America, and then after two weeks return back to Delhi sector for reporting - going and coming itself will take 4 - 5 days. And then there was jetlag and so many problems. There was hardly any time to do any work. These were the thoughts swirling in my head so my mind became quite puzzled.

http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

“You will be victorious”

Baba was busy in many works, including giving Prabhat Samgiita. And I prostrated before Him. Baba spoke aloud, “Oh, Karunananda maharaj has come!” Baba continued, “I posted you there because it is a vast land, and you have vast experience, and there is a vast potential. To make all three vasts one, I posted you there. As you will see, you will be more victorious there than what you have been up till now.” Baba gave me this blessing, but I had a big problem: How will I purchase the ticket to go there.

Totally bleak situation

With great difficulty, I was able to secure enough funds, and I flew to South America. When I arrived there I went to the AM office which was a very small room. And there was hardly any space to do asanas and sadhana. It was such a small room. There was no place to sit. And one person would sleep in between two cabinets by the staircase. Moreover, amongst the local residents, there was a rumour that, “These yogis are a terrible nuisance so let’s remove them from this place.”

The situation seemed absolutely terrible. I looked out my window and gazed upon the big city of Sao Paulo. And I recounted Baba’s words, “You will be victorious.” I was thinking in my mind that, “Baba blessed me, but how will I be victorious? Nobody knows me here. I am struggling. How will I work? And soon again I will have to go back to India. So how will I be able to do anything, and how will I be victorious?”

A surprise visitor comes calling

When I was thinking all these thoughts, suddenly my office doorbell rang. I opened the door, and I noted that there was a sophisticated lady standing before me. Later on, her name was to become Aruna’. But at this initial gathering at my door, she asked, “Are you Acarya Karunananda?” I was surprised that she even knew my name. And I replied, “Yes.”

Then she asked, “Can you help my son? I do not know what is the matter.”

I thought about how Baba said I would be victorious, so without any hesitation I told her, “Yes, I can help your son.”

She responded, “Can you come to my house?”

Again, I replied, “Yes.”

As there was no place for her to sit in my office, I said, “Madam, please wait outside.” When I went downstairs to meet her, I noticed that there were a lot of cars and police. I was surprised and thought, “Who is she?” Ultimately, I found out that she is the wife of the governor of Sao Paulo.

Her boy is cured

In due course, I came to know the nature of the problem: Her son is 24-years-old, and he has never spoken or laughed. And people in Brasilia thought that someone had done black magic on him and that only an Indian yogi can cure him. So she had informed the personnel at the Sao Paulo airport that if any Indian yogi comes then they should inform her at the governor’s house. In that way, she got my address and arrived at my office.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

With her grand entourage, she took me to her house. There was a lot of pomp and show. And when I got out of the car, I saw a boy standing over by the tree. I went over to him, touched his back, and said, “How are you my boy?” Immediately, he laughed and hugged me and touched his cheek with my cheek. There was so much affection. And he said hello to me also.

His mother started weeping. Looking at me, she said, “He is a magical sannyasi. My boy never laughed, never spoke, and suddenly what magic he has done that my son has become normal.” Thus began a big diipavali - it was a big festival in the governor’s house. Yet I did not even know what the problem was nor what I had done to solve the problem. But she was thinking that this great yogi had performed some sort of miracle on her son. Yet, everything happened all by itself, i.e. by Baba’s grace.

Baba’s blessing realized

Later on, she told me, “Swami ji, what can I do for you? This was my only son, and you cured him.” I told her that if she liked she could arrange lectures for me as I have come here to establish Ananda Marga.”
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

She told me that, “Tomorrow, there is a party here at the governor’s house. Please come as my guest.” She arranged for my arrival, and all the ministers were there. Then again Baba’s words came in my mind, “You will be victorious.” Then I was thinking, “Baba, I am making very big contacts such as presidents and ministers etc, but how will the money come?”

As soon as that thought about money came in my mind, the immigration minister approached me. He said, “Yogi, as you are going to India, if you can bring incense then my friend who likes Indian incense very much will give you $1 per packet.”

I told him, “Yes, I can bring incense.”

“Baba, call me daily!”

I applied for permission to bring 200 kilos so when I went to India I got 10,000 packets of incense. As soon as I returned back to Brasilia, I got out my VIP card (that the immigration minister had given me) and I showed it to the custom’s officer. They pushed my bags and reached the immigration counter. And they promptly gave me $10,000. My ticket was $1800, and I got $10,000 by making the trip. And they requested me to bring this amount every time I go to India. I thought, “Baba, why are you calling me to India every two weeks. Call me daily!” Because with this money I can do so much work.

Conclusion: Baba will never fail you

And indeed, across the entirety of South America, so many great things happened. But, you see, what is my credit? Everything was done by Baba. We think we are doing, but He is arranging everything. So what I found is that when you are in difficulty, raise your hand, surrender, and cry to Him - call Him and love Him. He will never fail you. Everything will fail you in your life, but Baba will never fail you. This has been my experience my whole life. I have had so many such experiences. I have traveled to 90 countries, and in each place Baba performed miracles. People thought that Dada Karunananda was doing everything, but I did not nothing. All I was doing was crying for Baba. Believe me, work was happening by itself. I did nothing. It is all Baba’s causeless grace.

Note: In the above story, the “I” refers to Acarya Karunananda Avadhuta.

Note: This story is the second in a series of two recounted by Ac Karunananda Avt to margiis of Suva sector on the occasion of Shravanii Purnima (Aug 2022). Sadly, Ac Karunananda underwent his mahaprayan approximately 3 months later in November 2022. This story stands as a great devotional treasure for all sadhakas and the greater humanity. Those present for the occasion will recall the very loving and spirited way in which Dada told this story. Please know a link to the first story has been appended below.

The above series of events took place when Dada Karunananda ji was being transferred from Berlin sector to GT sector in the late 1980s. Dada ji had a long career working overseas, traveling to over 90 countries during his time as a Wt. The story is recounted in the first-person so the “I” refers to Dada Karunananda ji.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “The duty of human beings is only to continue their efforts to please Parama Puruśa. Thus when any work is done, the concerning sádhaka is not to be given any credit; the credit should be given to Parama Puruśa. Human beings should always try to please Him to obtain His Grace; that alone will serve the purpose.” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “You have only one goal in life, one duty – to surrender at the altar of the Supreme. You have only to wish – that His plan for you may be successful. I think you have understood?” (2)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “What you must do is simply surrender to the Lord and leave everything else to Him and Him alone. Your ideal should be the Lord, and your effort should be towards a complete self-surrender. You should ask the Lord to make you what He wants. You should ask the Lord to take that work from You which He desires.” (3)

Plagiary?

It is the accepted international standard and Baba's system not to copy another's work and publish it in your own way. Baba has given a very strict rule on plagiarism. Why is Baba against plagiarism or stealing someone's work? There are many reasons:

1) It is against the code of asteya (non-stealing).

2) Countless stories of bhaktas need to be published. But some do not want to do the hard work of compiling and writing these stories, so they just steal them from others. But new stories need to be told, otherwise so many unpublished stories of sadhakas will be lost and forgotten forever. So watch out for story thieves, and kindly help them not to steal by posting on social media in their own way. If you want to forward this story then attach the following yellow section with the story:

“Courtesy of unknown bhakta via Ananda Marga Universal (https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/)”

This will be treated as the standard protocol.

Forced unemployment outcomes

Prout philosophy guides us, "For the all-round welfare of human beings, society needs to follow some fundamental socio-political principles. Without the firm foundation of such principles, disunity, injustice and exploitation will flourish."

"First people should not be retrenched from their livelihood unless alternative employment has been arranged for them."

“In the Pathan period and at the height of the Mughal empire, Zamindars or landlords were permitted to maintain military forces. This practice was banned at the end of the Mughal period and the start of the British period. As a result, many soldiers from military communities like the Bagadis of Ráŕh and the Cuyárs and Lodhas of Midnapur were retrenched from the armed services. Consequently, they became criminals. Even thirty to forty years ago, members of these communities were still engaged in antisocial activities, but now they have virtually ceased this practice. If these people had been inducted into the military or the police, they would have earned a proper livelihood without being compelled to harm the society. Their destiny would have been quite different.”

“Now you understand the consequences of retrenching people without arranging a suitable alternative livelihood for them.” (1)

Note: Here it should be understood that the term retrenchment means losing one's job. The worker has been dismissed, fired, or let go whereby they no longer have a job. The term retrenchment is commonly used in Australia and South Africa. People from other regions may not be familiar with this usage of the term.

Knowing death is coming + 3 more

Baba
Knowing death is coming

Namaskar,

Once one king asked a great yogi sage, “How can I gain success on the path of divinity?”

In reply, the saint told the king to do sadhana.

The king said, “Yes, I of course do sadhana, but invariably I fall asleep while meditating. So then what should I do?”
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

How the sage responded to the king

The sage answered, “In your kingdom you have a prison, and inside that prison there are so many inmates, and some of them are going to be hanged for their crimes. On the night before they are to be executed, do you think that they are going to sleep that night?”

“Of course not, they will not sleep at all - not even one wink,” said the king.

The saint responded, “Exactly. They think their time on this earth is short and soon they will die - therefore they cannot rest. Likewise, to succeed on the spiritual path, you should adopt this very same notion. Remember that life is short and you are not going to remain on this earth permanently. Anytime you might die, even very soon - today or tomorrow. If you think in this way and remember this, you will certainly do what is most important right away, and focus fully on God. Then you will be extremely alert and sincere in sadhana and it is sure that you will proceed along the path of divinity and get success.”

That was the very fruitful answer which the saint told to that king.

Death can knock on your door anytime

The above account is one famous story that is wholly consistent with Baba's teaching: One should think that any time the mythological god of death can knock on your door and snatch away your life. That is the mindset you have to adopt when readying yourself for sadhana.

Grhiitvaeva kesheśu mrtyurńá Dharmácaret

Ananda Marga ideology states, "That is, during dharma'caran, i.e. dharmic pursuits [following yama and niyama, service, svadhyaya etc] one should think that the god of death has already started pulling one’s hair – that one’s death is imminent. And accordingly one should work sincerely and vigorously; one will have to do a great many noble deeds within a short period." (1)

Only when one realises the extreme temporal nature of this world, can they truly progress on the path of sadhana.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

People think they will live forever

The reason why it is so important to develop this strict mindset in one’s spiritual life is because this world is full of allurements and attractions. And so long as one is enamoured with these allurements - like post, power, prestige, material wealth, name and fame, etc - then it is not possible to march quickly on the path of spirituality. Because one's mind will be full of those worldly temptations.

Every human being has come from animal life and those baser propensities are still active. So people are easily attracted to the mundane & sensual desires of this quinquelemental world. That is 'Part A'. And the 'Part B' is that people think that they have come to live in this world forever. Even when faced with death, they think that death will never befall them.

Along these lines, in Ananda Vacanamrtam - 29 Hindi edition, Baba recounts the following:

One time a devayoni yaksa asked Yudhisthira, “What is the most surprising thing about human beings?”

And the wise Yudhisthira correctly replied, “People think that they have come to live in this world forever. Even when carrying the corpse of their dead friend to the cremation ground, they cannot believe that death will one day come to them as well.” (English Summary)

So people get attracted to the glitz and glamour of this world, and side by side think they are going to live on this earth for ages and ages and ages. No one can believe that one day they too will perish. So they pass their days in pursuit of worldly temptations like social stature, fancy garments, and material gains. They think they will enjoy those things up to eternity. And on this presumption they live their life.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

And this is how the noose of maya keeps people stuck in the endless cycle of birth and death. According to Baba, it is only possible to extricate oneself from this never-ending affair, by taking a strong resolve. If one thinks that, “Death can come anytime to my door and I must reach God before this happens”, then and only then will one not be swayed by the short-lived attractions of this world. Rather, one will be vigilant in sadhana and get success.

A seed without water will not sprout

Just as a seed without water will not sprout, similarly a sadhaka who thinks that this world is their permanent abode cannot progress on the path of spirituality. One should think that this life is fleeting and that at any moment one can die. One should adopt the basic feeling that, “I have a short time to reach my Goal.” This is the food or fuel that will enable one to gain success.

Without that, one will drift from one worldly desire to another. That is the common problem that binds most every human being on this earth. They may or may not have some theoretical understanding that one day they are going to die, but, practically speaking, they live their life on this earth as if they are going to remain here forever. All their plans and programs are geared along this idea. They think, “I will buy shiny things; I will get lots of money; everyone will honour me; my name will be known throughout the land etc.” People's plans are like that. In this way maya binds them and they cannot get success on the path of spirituality.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "O Parama Purus'a, grant me devotion – that devotion which will enable me to love you every moment in newer and still newer ways. For you are endless and your expressions are also endless. If I learn how to love You, I will be able to love You in endless ways. My life will become effervescent with the sweet rhythms of the infinite. My life will attain its highest fulfilment." (2)

One must think that anytime the god of death can knock on your door and snatch away your life. That is the mindset to adopt when readying yourself for sadhana.

~ In-depth study ~

#1: In the Senior Acarya Diary chapter on Iishvara pranidhana, section - “shuddhis”, Baba is describing that when sitting in meditation (padmasana, siddhasana, viirasana) one must keep the back straight so that the kundalini can the passage to rise upward from muladhara to sahasrara.
#2: Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "They should be taught to sit in padmásana [lotus posture], but instead of interlocking the fingers, they may rest one palm upon the other; and keep the spine erect.." (Caryacarya-1, The Process of Initiation)
#3: Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Tailless apes can be taught sádhaná after some effort. The tailed bipeds will not be able to do sádhaná like the tailless bipeds because the backbone of the tailed bipeds, containing the controlling points of the five fundamental factors, does not come in one line. The controlling points fall on a curved line, hence they cannot perform sádhaná properly.” (Yoga Psychology, The Human Body Is a Biological Machine)
#4: Ananda Marga philosophy states,” Mono-sided, straight or erect beings can perform sádhaná very well because all the five controlling points of the fundamental factors fall on a straight line….You see how fortunate you are to have a human biological structure. You have got a human frame. Humans should be obliged to Supreme Consciousness for this favour.” (Yoga Psychology, The Human Body Is a Biological Machine)
#5: Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The one who has followed the straight path of the sus'umna' canal upwards becomes one with Parama Purus'a." (Namami Krsnasundaram, Párthasárathi Krśńa and Vishiśt́ádvaetaváda (Discourse 16))
#6: Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Ujure uju cháŕi ná leo re báḿka. The word “uju” in Saḿskrta is derived from the Saḿskrta word “rju”. “Rju” means straight. The meaning of this line is “don’t accept the crooked path rejecting the straight one”. That is, just proceed along the path of “suśumná” not along the path of “id́á” and “piuṋgalá”.” (Ananda Marga Karma Yoga in a Nutshell, “Kurvanneveha Karmmáńi”)

Sadhana means practice, not samadhi

Some do sadhana and just wonder why they are not feeling bliss or why they are not getting samadhi. However, this is not the right way to think about their meditation. Sadhana itself is the act of taking the proper effort and engaging in the practice of meditating. The aspirant is trying to ensconce the mind in a certain ideal. The mind may or may not cooperate, but one should go on trying. And with that sincere effort, by His grace, one day one is sure to get success. So no one should give up or be frustrated that they are not getting samadhi. Sadhana is the practice and that is what we are to do twice daily, at minimum.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Bemoan the futility of your life

Ananda Marga ideology says, “The worship of Brahma should be done scrupulously, or else you will later regret and bemoan the futility of your life with the last drop of your tears at your last hour. You should make your life worthwhile through your Sádhaná. How much can your worldly friends and relations do for you? After your death your relatives may perhaps ask, “How much money has he left behind?” Your friends may go to the crematorium and indulge in flattering reminiscences about you. Your husband or wife may cry for you for about ten or twelve days and then regain their normal composure. Your lot will be only a profound sigh – a record of the futility and frustration of your life. So do not waste your time lest you later have to repent.” (3)

So one should remember the ephemeral nature of life on this earth and always remember God. And then one more thing is needed to succeed in order to escape the noose of maya. One should ask Sadguru Baba in dhyana-- to please grace them in sadhana. One should think, “O Parama Purusa, You are my only respite from this mundane world, only You can pull me from the grip of Maha Maya. So please shower me in Your infinite compassion so I can feel You in my sadhana, please allow me to tread the path of spirituality and reach unto You.”

Most everyone wants to know the secret for gaining success on the spiritual path: How to escape the serpentine noose of maya and reach to that Supreme Desideratum. There are so many allurements and obstacles in this world. How can one free oneself from these attractions and hurdles, and reach unto Parama Purusa. Sadguru Baba has given the answer. The above letter leads in that direction.

Your divine nectar

"Loke bale tumi dekha' da'o na', tave ele kii kare..." (Prabhat Samgiita #1893)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, people say that You don't come before all, then how is it that You have come here in front of me, whereby I am seeing You. O' Parama Purusa, people say that You do not care about logic and reasoning, and that there is no explaining how You manage Your affairs. They say Your liila is beyond all human comprehension. Then how is it that You have graced one and all, and You are showering everyone with Your divine nectar. How has this started happening?

O' Parama Purusa, people say that You don't come before all, then how is it that You have come here in front of me, whereby I am seeing You. O' Parama Purusa, people say that You do not care about logic and reasoning, and that there is no explaining how You manage Your affairs. They say Your liila is beyond all human comprehension. Then how is it that You have graced one and all, and You are showering everyone with Your divine nectar. How has this started happening?

O' Parama Purusa Baba, I am so meagre; You are so vast. I am bound up by my own limitations, even then You love me. By Your sweet touch, all the negativity and impurities get removed and everything becomes pure. By Your grace, the fragrant flowers blossom in each and every nook and corner of my mind. Baba, people say that You are invisible and that You cannot be seen, but by Your mercy You have come to me. O' my Dearmost, this is all due to Your cosmic krpa and infinite compassion...

No collective moksa

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “To continue the flow of His divine play, it is not desirable that all entities of the vast universe should attain the Supreme stance at one time; neither is it the natural process. Thus human beings must strive to attain individual salvation. If Parama Puruśa is pleased, they will surely succeed in their efforts.” (1)

Note: Many things can be done collectively like bhajans, sadhana, meal, bath, and kiirtan etc. These can all be collective endeavours. But not everything in this universe can be done collectively. For instance, collective salvation is not possible. Because then creation will cease to exist and Parama Purusa does not want creation to end. Those who are fortunate will use their free will to do sadhana. Unit beings will get salvation on an individual, case by case basis, not collectively.

Difference between the wise & fools

Ananda Marga ideology states, "All people should have proper knowledge and understanding of what is shreya and what is preya, what is vidyá and what is avidyá, for lack of this knowledge causes their downfall, and with its help, they progress onwards through proper sádhaná. Behind human desires the sweetly benevolent inspiration that the soul imparts, leads human beings to consciousness, not crudeness. That is why the wise try to develop their wisdom and intelligence more and more. No one wants to remain a fool: not even a simpleton wants to be called an idiot. To acquire true wisdom, judgement is necessary and judgment involves discrimination. The proper applications of this discriminating judgement is wisdom. This is why the discriminating people take Brahma, the ultimate stage of their consciousness, as their objective."
"But the ignorant or foolish ones who do not utilize their discriminating judgement but are tempted on to the path of materialistic sádhaná for their temporary enjoyment, eventually become crude themselves. The Yama said, “Allured by the paraphernalia of enjoyment these fools do not understand nor do they want to understand, the Supreme Entity. They cannot even imagine a subtler world beyond this material quinquelemental world and so they totally deny it. Those who take the crude as their objective, have to come again and again into this material world in crude forms to enjoy and endure the crude. Trudging along a dark path they are gradually transformed into matter. Thus, they come under my sway again and again, for it is impossible for them to redeem themselves from the cycle of birth and death." (1)

Note: In the present world, countless innocent people in the so-called advanced societies - and wherever materialism reigns - suffer terribly from this above described ailment. It is our duty to save them from their complete destruction and demise.

Remedy for food poisoning

The following is an English summary of Baba’s Bangla discourse from Shabda Cayanika:
Antidotes of poison - green turmeric, spinach leaves, basil...mainly black basil and secondly white basil or any kinds of basil.

If some negative effect is going on due to food poisoning or because of eating poisonous fish, then without any delay a sufficient quantity of spinach leaves should be eaten and by that way the poison will be antidoted. (1)
