Balanced life: the pratiika + 4 more

Baba
Balanced life: the pratiika

Namaskar,

Baba has placed great importance on the meaning and use of our Ananda Marga pratiika. Here below is a short explanation of the pratiika and how it is related with our way of life.

1. The two, perfectly-balanced equilateral triangles in our pratiika represent the manipura cakra (i.e. 3rd cakra) and the ajina cakra (i.e. 6th cakra).
2. The manipura cakra is symbolised by the triangle pointed upward signifying service to society. This cakra gives the body energy and stamina to do action in the world.
3. The ajina cakra is symbolised by the triangle pointed downward signifying spiritual sadhana and self-realisation. The ajina cakra is the seat of the mind.
4. We should practise and represent this symmetry in our day to day life by keeping perfect balance between our meditation (sadhana) and worldly work (social service).
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Balance vs imbalance

5. Our mission is: Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca. A'tmamokśárthaḿ (self-realisation) is represented by the downward pointed triangle (i.e. ajina cakra) in our pratiika; jagaddhitáya ca (selfless service) is represented by the upward pointed triangle (i.e. manipura cakra) in our pratiika.

6. Maintaining balance between these two triangles - representing spiritual practice for self-realisation & selfless service to humanity - is needed. As sadhakas, we should be in perfect balance just like our pratiika. That means we should do maximum sadhana without losing our adjustment with this world; and we should do maximum social service without forgetting our sadhana.

7. When we maintain perfect balance between our inner world (downward pointed triangle) and the outer world (upward pointed triangle) then by His grace we will achieve all-round progress (signified by the rising sun in our pratiika) and ultimately victory (signified by the swastika in our pratiika).

8. Reaching this state is not easy. Unfortunately, we often see aspirants fail to maintain proper balance in life. Most commonly, people get too caught up in their worldly work and their sadhana gets neglected. In some cases, the opposite happens. So we must constantly assess our position and strive to keep a balance between our inner and outer worlds.

Golden rule - key to success

One very important slogan in Ananda Marga is subjective approach through objective adjustment. But some confused people have no clue about this and they follow the opposite approach. They think that in this world one should adjust with whatever society is demanding, and compromise on the dharmic rules and disciplines of Ananda Marga teachings. If one is a sadhaka and if the joint family is eating tamasik food then adjust with them by also eating tamasik food. Their motto is that you have to live in the society so do not start quarrelling with them, just adopt their way of life. This aforesaid manner is the bogus way.

Right way: subjective approach through objective adjustment

The right way and the real explanation is as follows. Subjective approach means that your entire existential approach is subjective and the Goal is Parama Purusa. So from morning to midnight and from birth to death, whatever you do - do not forget that your goal is Parama Purusa. You have been given a human body for the sole purpose of realising Him. This is the subjective approach.

With regards to objective adjustment, this was completely forgotten by Shrii Shankaracarya as his philosophy only accepts the subjective approach. They reject the existence of the objective world. Whereas in materialistic philosophies like capitalism and communism, the objective world is everything and there is no subjective approach. The ideal approach is Ananda Marga ideology. The Goal is Parama Purusa and this ideal should be kept firmly in the mind; at the same time, one should live in this world while following Sixteen Points and various dos and don’ts. One should adjust with the world as long as the march towards Parama Purusa is not hindered. That is the main thing.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Under the excuse of objective adjustment

Those who are confused delete Parama Purusa from this equation. That is why they degenerate. They eat all kinds of tamasik items and live in a static manner, under the excuse of objective adjustment. And in result they never grow spiritually.

The concluding idea is that that subjective approach through objective adjustment means being focused on Parama Purusa, and adjusting with the world by maintaining dharmic life practices, and not rejecting the existence of the world like Hindu yogis. Rather we should recognise that this world exists and we have to live in this world. To adjust properly Baba has given all sorts of conduct rules and dharmic guidelines that need to be followed strictly.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Opposite way or flip-flop

Unfortunately, nowadays this formula of subjective approach through objective adjustment is almost forgotten or just plain abused, especially when certain Wts preach the exact opposite. 24 hours they think about this or that project, or earning money, or doing something mundane. They think that is the main ticket. And then in the morning and evening they curtail their sadhana etc. So that is the opposite way or flip-flop. The ideal is that all the 24hrs everything is done to improve sadhana. The Goal is Parama Purusa and social service is just to serve Him. The negative way is that Parama Purusa is secondary and mundane achievements like building roads and schools is the main thing. That is the misconception prevalent nowadays. Due to this we are (a) losing our cadre and (b) incapable of doing something substantial in service to humanity.

Conclusion

It is unfortunate that this vital formula which is steering our Ananda Marga way of life is not only misunderstood, but getting turned around in reverse these days. Now is the time to cultivate the right understanding and wholly embrace the ethic that our Goal is Parama Purusa and we are not to reject the existence of the world like Shankaracarya. Rather we have to live in this world and maintain this human body. For that, we have to follow Sixteen Points, dos and don’ts, and serve the society. And always remember that the main aim of this entire life is realising Parama Purusa. So all the 24 hrs one should keep focused on Him. That is our cherished ideal; everything else is futile. For this reason we have been blessed with a human life.

"Human life is a mission"

Here the point is that we should not just wear our pratiika around the neck, but our daily life should be a proper reflection of the pratiika, i.e. perfectly balance between service to society and self-realisation. That means our life should comprehensively represent Ananda Marga ideology.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "What should a person do? Life is a mission. I have said that human life is an ideological flow. That is, human life is a mission; life itself is a mission; one’s very existence is a mission. Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca – “Whatever one is to do one is to do for átmamokśa – for his or her own liberation – and for the elevation of the entire world, elevation of the entire human society.” One is to do both these things: that is, these two things are one’s mission." (1)

How our pratiika is used

Here below are some of the key ways our pratiika is used in our Ananda Marga way of life:

(A) At dharmacakra, we may display the Ananda Marga pratiika.

(B) Next Baba describes the role of the pratiika when our acaryas perform diiksa (initiation).

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Initiation in Prárambhika, Sádhárańa and, in special cases, Sahaja Yoga will be done before the pratiika [emblem]." (2)

(C) When an Ananda Marga marriage is performed, then the pratiika will be given its rightful place.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The pratiika [emblem of Ananda Marga] should be placed in an elevated place in the marriage hall.” (3)

(D) During DMC when Baba was up on the stage then there would always be a pratiika on display behind Him. Still today at DMS we present Baba's photo and behind His photo is the pratiika.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba's description of the pratiika

Here is Baba's explanation of the pratiika.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Your Pratiika [Emblem]: A triangle with one vertex up superimposed on another triangle with one vertex down, with the rising sun having a swastika inside. These are symbols of energy, knowledge, advancement and permanent victory, respectively." (4)

Here below is the dharmic way the publishers have explained the pratiika on the inside pages of recently printed Ananda Marga books.

The pratiika represents in a visual way the essence of Ananda Marga ideology. The six-pointed star is composed of two equilateral triangles. The triangle pointing upward represents action, or the outward flow of energy through selfless service to humanity. The triangle pointing downward represents knowledge, the inward search for spiritual realization through meditation. The sun in the center represents advancement, all-round human progress. The goal of the aspirant's march through life is symbolized by the swastika, which means spiritual victory.

Nearest & sweetest

"(Mor), d́ákáte ásoniko krpáte ele, d́eke gechi nija man bhúláte..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3681)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, when I invoke Your name You never come. You appear only out of Your eternal compassion on me. Even then, I go on calling You, again and again, just to quench my longing. Baba, You never pay heed or give any response to high-sounding, ostentatious recitations or religious sermons in Samskrta, Hebrew, Classical Hebrew, Arabic, Pali, Greek, Old Chinese etc. You do not care about verbosity or any superficial rituals. You are only moved by the feeling of the heart. Repeating dry hymns devoid of bhakti can't melt Your core. You are drawn near by one’s sincere love.

O’ Parama Purusa, Baba, You are my nearest and sweetest. You are aware about my entire being, listening to all my thoughts, and seeing my every action. You understand all there is to know about me. When my mind is drowned in vanity, You are ever-ready to be held in my grasp, after removing the smog of my ego.

Hari, Parama Purusa, whatever chants, recitations, sadhana, asanas, bhajans, kiirtana, pranayama, puja’, dhyana, spiritual practices, or meditation I perform, it is only for getting You, and satisfying and satiating You. As You are fully aware about my foolishness and shallow bhakti, kindly saturate the deep core of my soul with the sweetness of prema. Please shower me with Your causeless grace and make my life successful.

Baba, when I was calling You did not come; but You have come now. It is Your karuna’. Your liila is unfathomable...

When people can multi-task

The typical person has numerous aims. For example, they want to be the king, president, billionaire, film hero, sports star, musical icon etc. In that sense, the average person is multi-purpose. But at the same time living beings are unilateral. We can only do one work at one time. People talk about multi-tasking, but it is an impossibility for unit beings. The mind cannot do two works at the same time. And if one tries to multi-task, their mind will become bifurcated and ultimately degenerated, and / or they will find themselves in a terrible accident.

Best is to do one task at one time. By cultivating that quality in sadhana humans become one with Parama Purusa. By doing sadhana and with His grace, the aspirant does become one with Parama Purusa. And then, after losing their individuality, they can work multilaterally - i.e. in all directions. Till then, do not try and do many works at one time.

Only one direction, at one time

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Microcosm is multipurposive but its flow is unilateral. On the other hand, Macrocosm is uni-purpose but its flow is multilateral. There is no end to the desires of microcosm. Sometimes it desires fame and sometimes it desires money. But it can make itself travel at one time in one direction only. His mind cannot be simultaneously engaged in a book and in a football game. While reading, if he thinks of the football game his mind is diverted from the book. Similarly, he cannot enjoy the football game if in the football game he begins to think about his books. Hence, the flow of the unit is unilateral. It travels only in one direction, at one time, whereas Macrocosm is uni-purpose but multilateral. There is only one thought of Macrocosm and that is the well-being of all. This is His one sole purpose. Yet Macrocosm is a multi-lateral flow. He does many things simultaneously. He is feeding you, creating the world, making rivers, canals and birds. Everything is being created in His mind. Hence there is much variety in His mind.” (1)

Wt life: sadhana in AMPS draws ridicule

Please pay particular attention to the highlighted yellow section.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Each individual has to keep physically and mentally pure and serve the society in the best possible manner. The collective psychic momenta of all the members of society makes the collective momentum of the social order strong and powerful. Hence, as an individual, one must be able to manifest and express a powerful psychic momentum. Society must not impose any restriction on the psychic and spiritual elevation of its members, nor should it allow anyone to accumulate physical wealth to the point that it is harmful to the other members of society and leads to exploitation.” (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Caryacarya contains the guidelines for how an individual can best contribute his or her efforts to the collective momentum. It also provides guidelines for how the collective body shall foster each individual’s physical and psychic welfare." (1)

In His above teaching, Baba is talking about both the development of the individual and the society. The citation concludes with this key guideline highlighted in yellow.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Society must not impose any restriction on the psychic and spiritual elevation of its members." (1)

Unfortunately, this above tenet is not always followed in our AMPS society. Those who are sincere in sadhana and Sixteen Points are often ridiculed. Some Wts are especially bent on mocking and speaking sarcastically about any junior worker who is committed to their sadhana. Actually what happens is that margiis are attracted to those acaryas who do more sadhana. Seeing this, big, supervisory workers became extremely jealous. So they do everything in their power to derail that sincere Wts from the path of sadhana. They bully and mock that worker endlessly. And verily, some wts have buckled under such pressure - sadly they became completely broken. This is the very tragic state of affairs that has been in vogue since 1990. Many have suffered. How ironic is it that ours is a socio-spiritual organisation, yet if one is really sincere in their asana, conduct rules, night sadhana, spiritual practices etc they are mocked by certain top Dadas. The whole situation is shameful.

What happens to those puffed up in vanity

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In this world various persons occupy various exalted posts, and because of their posts they enjoy social respect and position. “But however high their rank may be, they pray to the Lord, saying, ‘O Lord, I exist by Your grace – protect me, O Lord.’” So the Lord is controlling everyone, whatever may be their post. The moment one transgresses one’s jurisdiction out of vanity or ego, one is removed from that post. Whenever one misuses or abuses one’s authority, the Lord pushes the person out, and the person falls on his knees. This is the rule. The Lord is controlling everything; He does not tolerate the abuse of power or authority by anyone. In fact, one of His names is Darpahárii [Stealer of Vanity]. He does not tolerate anyone’s darpa [vanity]. We see in practical life that people may be seated today in the most exalted position in society, but if they grossly abuse their position, they will meet with such a great fall that their bones and skin will be altogether beyond recognition.”
"It is only when the human beings, become puffed up with vanity and misuse the power granted to them by Parama Purus'a, that He steals everything from them. Hence, He is called Darpaha'rii - the stealer of vanity...Vain people suffer a similar fate when their vanity is destroyed as the balloon faces when its air is let out. But, does Parama Purus'a snatch away everything from everyone? No, He takes away only when the unit beings try to create obstructions in the flow of His creation." (1)

Note: In His above teaching, Baba warns us about the fate of arrogant people. As we know, the ultimate antidote to vanity is developing a spiritual link in life and surrendering to the sweet will of Parama Purusa. Then, in that case, extreme arrogance and vanity will not get scope to crop up and ruin one's personae. For their welfare, Parama Purusa pulverizes their ego. He destroys and crushes their feelings of vanity. When their ego is crushed, they learn their lesson. If afterwards they are still alive they become humble and stop terrorizing others. They become proper human beings. That is why one of the names of the Lord is Darpaha'rii - destroyer of vanity.

Objective adjustment: self-befoolery + 3 more

Baba

Objective adjustment: self-befoolery

Namaskar,

Baba’s grand tenet of “subject approach through objective adjustment” is a unique and revolutionary teaching, but is sadly often misunderstood - and in some cases even misused. First let’s gain a clearer understanding of this guideline and then investigate how it is being misapplied by some nowadays.

(A) Subjective approach means that the purpose of life is for realising Parama Purusa. That is the chief and only aim: attaining Him. To that end, all one’s thoughts and works throughout the day are for the sole intention of spiritual advancement.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

(B) Objective adjustment means that all one does in the mundane world should be in support of one’s subjective approach. For instance, the food one takes should be 100% sentient as that will aid one on the path of sadhana; it will help one progress along the path of supreme subjectivity. Taking rajasik, and especially tamasik food, will derail one’s movement on the path of God realisation.

(C) The main equation is that one’s objective adjustment should increase one’s speed along the path of subjective approach. It should make one’s journey faster towards the Supreme Entity. That is the proper application of objective adjustment as it leads to one’s final liberation.

(D) In contrast, if one’s objective adjustment decreases or retards one’s speed along the path of subjective approach, then one is involved in negative pratisaincara. That is slowing down one’s journey towards the Cosmic Entity, i.e. going in reverse gear. If one is smoking, stealing, engrossed in sensual lust etc, then that will hamper one’s progress. That is not objective adjustment, rather it is gross indulgence.

(E) One’s adjustment with the world should always be aligned with the Supreme Goal and make the journey faster unto Him. One’s objective adjustment should never undermine one’s movement on the path of subjective approach, i.e. realising Him.

A few case examples

The following case examples are given with the idea in mind that one’s worldly dealings should reflect proper objective adjustment, i.e. actions that hasten one’s journey towards the Supreme.

If someone engages in pornography then that is not objective adjustment as it degrades the mind and pushes one farther from the goal, i.e. the Cosmic Entity.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

If one resorts to drinking alcohol and opens a wine shop then that is not objective adjustment as this crude intoxication and sinful earning retards one’s movement on the path of supreme subjectivity.

If one falls into the rut of cronyism or groupism then those dealings are not in concert with objective adjustment as those factional activities divert one away from the Supreme Entity, Parama Purusa.

If one chases after name and fame then that way of living cannot be called objective adjustment as those selfish and small-minded pursuits undermine one’s ability to go close to Taraka Brahma, rather one drifts endlessly away from Him.

An action only comes within the umbrella of objective adjustment when it hastens one’s journey unto Him. Doing longer sadhana, following Sixteen Points, serving others, preaching the ideology, and engaging in all sorts of pure, selfless, and virtuous deeds are all within the scope of objective adjustment as they lead one closer to the Supreme Entity.

How it is misunderstood or misused nowadays

Nowadays, those who fail to abide by the tenet of subjective approach vs objective adjustment fall in one of two categories:

(#1) Genuinely confused: These naive people simply do not understand Baba’s teaching of “subjective approach through objective adjustment.” Instead of ensuring that their day to day dealings are in concert with and accelerate their journey on the path of supreme subjectivity, they get lost in the mire of the prevailing mundane values etc. For instance, if they go to a relative’s house during the holidays then in the name of objective adjustment they may eat onion and garlic, or partake in the feast while those around them eat turkey etc. Or if one is busy and time is short, then in the name of objective adjustment the first elements one cuts from their routine are sadhana and asanas. Such persons are not well established on the path of Sixteen Points and spirituality. Rather they are just half-sadhakas or half-margiis. They compromise on points of dharma at every turn, naively thinking that that is what is meant by objective adjustment. Due to their naivete and misunderstanding they fall far from the path, sadly enough.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

(#2) Conniving mentality: These persons are cunning to the bone. They know the difference between right and wrong; and, they understand the spirit of “subjective approach through objective adjustment”. But, to satisfy their lustful, greedy desires, they plunge themselves into gross sensuality and materialism, and then cunningly justify that they are only doing this because of “objective adjustment”. A classic example of this is those avadhutas who gossip with, hug, tease, and massage etc members of the opposite sex and then openly proclaim that they are only doing this to “adjust” with the local culture. With their tall talks and haughty demeanor, they befool others in the name of “subjective approach through objective adjustment”. In their heart of hearts they know what they are doing is not objective adjustment, but using their guile and wily manner, they preach their bogus philosophy so they can continue to indulge in their degraded way of life.

Conclusion

Sadguru Baba’s dharmic teaching of “subjective approach through objective adjustment” is the ideal method for leading a spiritual life. In the past, seekers were never given the right guidance of how to live on this earth as a sadhaka. And in the end, they fell victim to various dogmas or harmful ways. Whereas, the teachings of Ananda Marga shine a bright light and present the exact way to proceed along the path of supreme fulfillment. First and foremost, there must never be any compromise on spiritual values; that is what is meant by subjective approach. Secondly, those actions are consistent with objective adjustment if they hasten one’s journey towards the final goal, Parama Purusa. With this perfect formula of “subjective approach through objective adjustment”, one is sure to be successful, by His grace.

In Him,
Vibhuti

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “You are all human beings. You are all dignified human beings. Forget all fissiparous tendencies that sometimes function within human mind. Remember, you are the loving children of the Parama Puruśa, and your goal is the Parama Puruśa. Your goal is the Supreme Entity. Yours is a subjective approach through objective adjustment. Your movement is towards the Supreme Entity. But while moving towards the Supreme Entity, you are to do all your worldly duties in social, economic and all other spheres. That is, your hands should be engaged in worldly duties, and your mind moving towards the Supreme Entity.” (1)

Harmful ways of the past => Why phrase came into existence

Although the aspect of subjective approach was embraced by certain eastern religions, their overall method was filled with dogma as they ignored the world. This is best evidenced by Shankaracarya’s dogmatic teaching of maya vada, or illusion theory. Those followers did not accept the world as something real. And, in result, they were completely impractical, and instead of advancing along the path of spirituality they ended up harming themselves. For instance, they would stand on one leg in the freezing, cold water all night long in hopes of gaining virtue. But during that time of torture in torment, they did not think about the Supreme, just their were focused on their own pain and suffering. And when they emerged from their water in the morning their nerves and muscles were harmed. Nothing was gained; there was only loss.

Very close to You

"A'ndha're tumi ele, a'loy bhariya' dile..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3057)

Purport:

Baba, My Parama Purusa, You have appeared in this deep darkness and blessed me. By Your holy advent, everything has become filled with Your venerable aura and effulgence. By Your causeless grace, all my dirt, staticity, and stains were removed in a flash. Amazingly, the Cimmerian blackness has been instantly transformed into luminescence by Your august presence.

Baba, Supreme Entity, the clusters of clouds of confusion and quandary which enveloped my life for ages were blown away in an instant by Your momentum of spiritual charm. Baba, by this way, You have magically removed all my burdens and pains and pulled me very close to You, in Your extreme proximity. How can I think I am ever neglected? You filled my heart with bhakti so no dilemmas remained - they all vanished. You have graciously appeared in this gloomy murkiness to save me.

My Supreme Guide, knowing that You are always along with me close by, I am never alone. You are lovingly taking care of everything. I am always surrounded by You; You are with me. Even knowing thus, I have cried for You. Baba, now I see You before me. Today You made me forget those days of weeping for You by giving me Your darshan. Now I understand that by Your endless compassion: I am never without You.

Baba, You have come to me in this depressing darkness...

Take the fast track

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Suppose you have incurred a loan of a thousand rupees. If you repay the loan in monthly instalments of one rupee it will take you a thousand months to clear the loan. One rupee being such a small amount, this will hardly cause any suffering at all. But if you want to free yourself from the debt quickly, you will have to pay a larger amount every month, which will obviously cause more suffering. Likewise, if one does not feel the need to be freed of one’s reactive momenta quickly, one can undergo less affliction, but then one may have to wait ten or twenty lives to exhaust all the reactive momenta. Moreover, within those ten or twenty lives one will probably undergo psychic degeneration, and due to one’s mean actions imbibe new reactive momenta.” (1)

AM & subjective approach + 3 more

Baba
AM & subjective approach

Namaskar,

One of Baba’s teachings is subjective approach and objective adjustment.

(a) Some Ma’rgis say that, “After dharmacakra one should finish asanas and remaining lessons before taking food.”
(b) Whereas other Ma’rgis say that, “No, that is not the right approach, rather one should have subjective approach and objective adjustment, that means when such a situation arises, then one should leave asanas and remaining lessons, and take food with others.”

Question: Which of the above two approaches is proper? Which one should be followed? To come to the right answer, we have to investigate the true meaning of subjective approach and objective adjustment.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

What is subjective approach & objective adjustment

In Ananda Marga there is a principle, “Subjective approach through objective adjustment”. There is a word “through” in between “subjective approach” and “objective adjustment”. The meaning of subject is Parama’tma’; He is the Supreme Subject. If one reads any Ananda Marga discourse, either directly or indirectly, it is stated that the goal of life is Parama’tma’; everything else is temporary. For instance, one’s existence as well as every object we see has a beginning and an end. So one’s approach should be the subject, Parama’tma’. This world has been created through the process of saincara, and we are in the phase of pratisaincara, so that we can merge in Parama’tma’. One should never forget the Goal of life, Parama’tma’. He is the polestar. This approach should be kept in mind, always. If one forgets it, there is no purpose in life. So the approach should be subjective.

Shankaracarya’s dogmatic approach is subjective but has no objective adjustment. Everything is subjective, and there is nothing such as objective adjustment: eko Brahma dvitiya na’sti (Brahma alone exists and nothing else). But Ananda Marga philosophy differs and denies this. The approach should be subjective, but to do this one has to live in this world and perform various tasks such as taking food, bathing, wearing clothes, working, doing activities, etc. By living in the world and engaging in society, the approach should be subjective. One does not need to leave this world. There are a lot of people who leave their worldly duties to go to the jungle to advance their subjective approach, but Baba says one has to be in the world, not leave it; rather, being in this world one has to adjust so that the approach is subjective.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

For example, one has to take advantage of being in this world, so that one’s body is ready to do sadhana. One should lead life in such a way that one’s mind is always directed towards Parama’tma’. Whatever one does such as speaking, eating, sacrificing, singing, obeying yama, niyama, and with everything else one does, one has to think how to adjust in this world such that one can advance toward one’s Goal. The Goal is fixed, and we have to reach the goal by being in this world, we have to utilize the facilities and adjust with our surroundings in the world to direct ourselves to reach that Goal.

How objective adjustment is misutilized

The meaning of adjustment is not that if many colleagues at the workplace smoke, then I will also smoke because I will be with them. When one is in such a situation then one has to understand that smoking has such effects that will decelerate and even destroy the movement towards Parama’tma’. One’s health will not be proper and death will come prematurely; so this so-called adjustment of smoking cannot be called adjustment in the true sense as it does not align with the Goal. Rather adjustment will be such that by being in the world, in the family, society, community, we can move ahead towards our Goal.

A number of rules come under adjustment: following Caryacarya, yama (satya, ahimsa, brahmacarya, asteya, aparigraha), niyama (shoca, santosa, tapah, svadhyaya, iishwara pranidhana) means adjustment. If someone is not adjusting, it means one is not following the rules of Caryacarya, yama, and niyama.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Be engaged in world & keep mind on Supreme Entity

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “You are all human beings. You are all dignified human beings. Forget all fissiparous tendencies that sometimes function within [the] human mind. That is, your hands should be engaged in worldly duties, and your mind moving towards the Supreme Entity. (1)

Conclusion

There are a number of people (including wts) who follow this theorem in a flip-flop manner: “objective approach with subjective adjustment”. For example, name, fame, prestige, higher post etc are their goals in life. When we interact with people, by their conduct we can see what their approach is. When the approach is objective, then the goal is worldly. So we should always be keen to follow Baba’s teaching of subjective approach and objective adjustment. That means one needs to engage all 24 hours in such a way that the movement is towards Parama’tma’. Objective adjustment is that which helps in subjective approach. That is the guideline Baba has given. Doing it in a reverse manner will lead to one’s downfall.

The approach should always be subjective --- towards God, and by adjusting with the objects in the world in such a way that one moves towards Him in a better way.

Niarakar

Never only objective adjustment

Ananda Marga ideology states, "On all other days they are to remain balanced between objective adjustment and subjective approach. On these days of fasting, however, on these days of upavasa, one remains in closer proximity to the Lord than to one's mundane duties." (2)

In Baba’s above teaching, He is giving us two basic pathways. First, He is guiding us that in our daily life there should be a proper balance between our worldly duties and spiritual life, i.e. subjective approach through objective adjustment. And second, on the days of upavasa, Baba’s directive is that one should primarily focus on sadhana, i.e. subjective approach. There is no third approach. That means there are no days where we exclusively focus on worldly dealings, i.e. objective approach. So Baba’s above teaching wholly refutes the notion that one should “adjust” with the mundane world by compromising on one’s spiritual values. There is no scope to ever give up the subjective approach - i.e. God-centered outlook.

Offering everything unto You

"Prabha't-ra'ge sina'n kari, ele tumi anupam..." (Prabhat Samgiita #4276)

Purport:

Parama Purusa, Baba, the Incomparable Entity, after bathing in the dawn’s refulgence, You have come on this auspicious occasion. You are unparalleled; You have blessed me. Now You are next to me, close to me. Please remain in front of me so I can do sastaunga pranam to You again, and again, and again. Whatever is mine I want to offer at Your lotus feet.

Baba, with Your blissful arrival everyone is dancing in ecstasy. The animals, birds, shrubs, and plants are all overflowing with joy. The bushes and creepers of the garden are blooming. The peacock and the cuckoos are melodiously singing. With the soft breeze and blue sky, the horizon is charming. All are feeling Your close proximity.

Parama Purusa, Baba, in my world, the bird with dark green plumage and a red bill is sitting on a branch of the bright, red palash tree looking towards whom? Behold, in my garden, the shimul [silk cotton tree] and pa’rul are smiling. You come to me. Baba, You are grace-personified. Please bless me with kevala' bhakti...

Not here for long

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Human beings come onto this earth for a very short period, and within this short period they are required to complete everything. So there is a great deal of work to be done, but the time is very short. Thus intelligent people make the best use of every moment of their time - wasting one's time is the height of foolishness. Why? Because no human being will remain on this earth for long, and the very goal of human life is to attain Parama Purusa, the Supreme Stance. Human beings, while moving forward towards that Goal which is fixed before their minds, will have to perform many worldly duties. That is why it is said, 'Keep one hand on the feet of Parama Purus'a, and with the other hand do your mundane duties'." (1)

Very important WT rule

WT conduct rule states: "We are all the children of the same Father, we are all the members of the same family. By fighting against all kinds of evil forces, we will establish the glory of our Father and the glory of our family." (1)

Note: A few bad Wts are going astray from this fundamental rule by spreading the poison of groupism and creating division throughout our AMPS and the greater society - all of which is against the ethic of neo-humanism. This is all happening due to greed, lust of power, desire for prestige etc. Unfortunately, such persons are still walking around in WT garb and continuing to harm His mission. Such is the effect of their divisive ways. They have destroyed the sanctity and unity of the family. Now is the time for ideologically-minded margiis and Wts to rally and rectify such workers, thereby building a monolithic AMPS.

Note 2: Those who are sincere margiis adhere to this above cited rule since the spirit of this conduct rule is common to one and all.
