Misuse of omnkara + 3 more

Baba
Misuse of omnkara

Namaskar,

All sincere Ananda Margiis know that:
(a) Omnkara is the sound of the creation, sustenance, and withdrawal of this entire universe.
(b) When the mind reaches to satyaloka in sadhana, then one can hear the omnkara sound (coming from nowhere).
(c) Omnkara cannot be pronounced with one’s vocal cords.
(d) Trying to pronounce the omnkara is a waste of time so Baba has warned us not to do this.
(e) Baba warns us that omnkara is not a mantra; doing the japa, dhyana etc of omnkara is useless and a misuse of one’s precious moments.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Omnkara dogma

(f) The omnkara symbol should not be worshiped in meditation as an idol or as a photo on the puja table etc. Nor should it be used as a locket or necklace. This is a dogma.
(g) The omnkara has no image or symbol. The way it is written now is Hindi Devanagari script. It is a sound and cannot be depicted by an image. This figure was created by dogmatic Hindu fundamentalists who want to propagate their dogma across the planet. That is why they spread it all around.
(h) You will not find an omnkara figure / symbol in Ananda Marga philosophy. It is a sound not an image etc. And you know that sound is sound and it does not have an image.
(i) Since omnkara does not have an image, then English readers will use their roman script and Japanese speakers will use their own script etc. Baba’s guideline is to write about omnkara in your own language, not Devanagari script.
(j) Every sincere Ananda Margii knows all these above points. New margiis may not know these things so they should consult Ananda Marga philosophy.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Nowadays, there is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding the onmkara sound. This is a very prevalent dogma in India. As Ananda Margiis, we should be aware of Guru’s teachings about this so that we can dispel all such myths and dogmas, and guide others along the right path. Here are some of Sadguru Baba’s guidelines.

[A] Ananda Marga ideology states, “Here one should bear in mind that when Oṋḿkára stands for sound, to know it then is to hear or pronounce it. When Oṋḿkára is pronounced or sounded in the Brahmic Mind itself, it is then meaningless for the sádhaka to pronounce it during his meditation of oṋḿkára. The sádhaná of oṋḿkára means the endeavour to hear that sound.”  (1)

[B] Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “In Ananda Marga oṋḿkára is not a mantra (an incantation of invocation) for chanting but for listening.” (2)

This onmkara  dogma is spreading all around the globe. As disciples of Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji we should guide the common people about the truth behind the onmkara sound. Oṋḿkára is not for chanting but for listening.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

What oṋḿkára really is?

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Wherever there is an action, certain vibrations are created. For each and every action, there is a corresponding vibration, a corresponding sound. You are walking – a khat́-khat́-khat́-khat́, t́ap-t́ap-t́ap-t́ap sound is created. That sound is the vibrational sound of that action of walking. You are laughing – the sound há-há-há-há will be created, so the sound há-há-há-há is the vibrational representation of the action of laughing. So the vibrational sound of an action is called the acoustic root. So há-há-há-há is the acoustic root of the action of laughing, and khat́-khat́-khat́-khat́ is the acoustic root of the action of walking. This acoustic root is called a biija mantra in Sanskrit. Now, when this universe was created by the Macrocosmic Self, a particular wave came in the Macropsychic body – “I’ll create something” – this desire was created – and this psychic action certainly came from a psychic sound within the mind of the Supreme Self. So the acoustic root of the desire of creation within the mind of the Macrocosm created the sound aaaa-a-a-a-a-a. A is the acoustic root of creation. A is the acoustic root of the action of creation – do you follow? Wherever there is an action, there is some vibration, and wherever there is vibration there is sound. When that Macrocosmic Self created this universe, during the phase of creation a certain vibration was created in His mind, and that vibration created a certain sound. That sound of creation is a. A is the acoustic root of creation, a is the biija mantra of creation.”
“And the first sound of creation, a, is the first letter of the Tántrika varńamálá. A. Then after creation, you are to preserve that creation, you are to keep up the creation. After the birth of a child, you have to preserve it; so this preservation is the second phase, and the vibrational sound of this action of preservation is u. Uuuu. So u is the acoustic root of preservation.
“And after creation, in the last phase of this psychic order, comes the phase of destruction. After creation and preservation there will be destruction. And the acoustic root of destruction is ma. Ma is the biija mantra of destruction, ma is the biija mantra of sarvalaya, ma is the biija mantra of prańásha. So ma is the biija mantra of destruction. So the entire functional business of the Supreme Self is represented by three sounds, a, u and ma – a-u-mmm. Hence the activated Consciousness is represented by the sound oooṋm.” (3)

And that is our Oṋḿkára. The oṋḿkára sound is resonating eternally from the cosmic hub. So oṋḿkára is not for chanting but for listening.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

How you can hear the sound of oṋḿkára

The A-U-M sound occurs in the Cosmic hub. So when one does sadhana and thinks about Parama Purusa, then due to one’s proximity to Parama Purusa, that sadhaka can hear the omnkara sound resounding in the Cosmic hub. Altogether, this onmkara sound can be heard in various stages as the mind becomes elevated, by His grace, and experiences different stages of realisation.

So those doing sadhana sincerely can hear this. There are hundreds of Ananda Marga sadhakas still walking this earth who hear this in their sadhana. And often even after they have completed their sadhana that sound continues on in their mind.

The key point to remember is that nobody can produce or pronounce this sound with their own mouth and limited voice box / larynx. It is baseless and ignorant to think one can replicate or make this sound. Yet so many dogmatic yogis attempt this in their meditation practice. As dharmikas, as Ananda Margiis, we know however that this is a sound meant to be heard, not spoken. So oṋḿkára is not for chanting but for listening.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Why onmkara is not for chanting

1. One cannot replicate the onmkara sound that is emanating from Cosmic hub with one’s own voice or larynx. Attempting to do so is a gross waste of time.
2. The onmkara sound can only be heard when the mind is in an exalted state. So it is silly to waste the time using crude organs to emulate that sound, which no human being can create - ever.
3. If you chant onmkara then there is absolutely no spiritual benefit. The repetition of onmkara is akin to repeating some useless noise. The mind will remain crude. Regardless of one’s desire, by this approach one will never hear the real onmkara.
4. It is senseless and stupid to do that which has no use; it is similar to chanting xyz type of words - just a fruitless endeavour.
5. Trying to formulate the sound of onmkara using one’s mouth is not even close to what the scriptures are talking about - it is not even a shadow of a shadow of a shadow.
6. Repeating the onmkara sound in meditation is like jumping into a pond in hopes of grabbing and eating the reflection of a mango - all the while thinking that one’s hunger will be satiated.

Even then, in various aspects of the Hindu religion, they use omnkara in a variety of ways.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

List of oṋḿkára dogmas

Here is a brief listing of the many ways Hindu followers employ onmkara.
(a) loud call onmkara
(b) song of onmkara
(c) kiirtan onmkara
(d) mala japa onmkara
(e) mental japa onmkara
(f) figure of onmkara

So in all these ways they chant onm as their slogan or mantra. Not only that, they wear the onmkara lockets or necklaces, they use it as an insignia on their flag or wall, and they carve it into stone etc.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

As Ananda Margiis, we do sadhana to please Parama Purusa, not to hear the onmkara sound. Ananda Marga philosophy guides us that the onmkara is the cosmic sound of (i) creation, (ii) preservation, and (iii) destruction. When one vidya tantrika (an Ananda Margii) does sadhana, the mind becomes apexed and then he hears onmkara - the sound of God / the sound of silence.

In Him,
Kalyansundaram

About the below photo

In the below photo, there is an orange, triangular flag and on that flag the onmkara symbol is written in Hindi / Devanagari script. These are Hindu believers marching in the street, and in this procession they are chanting ”Onm” as a slogan. This is dogma. Why? Please go on reading.

Now see here how in this Ananda Yuga magazine Dada Guniindrananda is propagating the very dogma by glorifying and worshiping this omnkara symbol. And that is why he put this image in the magazine which is not approved by Baba. Verily every Ananda Margii knows should not be done.

What true sadhakas seek

Prout philosophy says, "In the subtle economic sense, the value of wealth is the real wealth. Wealth, if not properly defined, may mean only riches. But the value of wealth is to be measured in terms of its capacity to purchase commodities. That is, the purchasing capacity of wealth is its real value. This real value of wealth has not yet been properly understood in numerical terms by economists." (1)

Commonly in society - especially when dealing with laborers - people demand a certain wage. They think that that wage or salary defines their wealth. When in actuality, the value of that wage is only relative to the cost of living / purchasing capacity. For instance, if a person was making $5 per hour and they got a pay raise to $7 per hour, but the cost of living (food, housing, medicine etc) doubled, then that pay raise is meaningless. Because their purchasing capacity actually decreased. That is why Prout philosophy states that real wealth is determined by one’s ability to afford the requirements of life. That is one’s purchasing capacity. And if one’s purchasing capacity increases then that has value. Because it means they can buy more with the money they have. Whereas if one’s wage or salary increases but their purchasing capacity remains the same or decreases, then that pay raise is meaningless.

Respect whom?

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Tadekaḿ jagatsákśiirupaḿ namámah – “If I am to pay respect to anybody, I am to pay respect to You only.”" (1)

Ananda Marga ideology says, “Tadekam’ jagatsa’ks’iiru’pam’ nama’mah. “If there is anyone to whom spiritual aspirants should surrender, if there is anyone to whom they should pay salutations, it is Parama Purus’a.” The system behind salutations is to look for the Supreme Being that is the inner essence of a person, and to pay salutations to that Parama Purus’a.” (2)

AM teachings: for the present moment + 2 more

Baba
AM teachings: for the present moment

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga ideology is the panacea for all of the world’s problems, as well as the path for spiritual growth and supreme realisation. Yet, there are some in AMPS who think that Baba’s teachings are not for the present era. They think their main duty is to pass those dharmic guidelines down to the next generation. While they willingly accept that Baba's teachings are great, they feel helpless to follow or implement those guidelines themselves. In this regard, they suffer from a defeatist complex.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Again, their basic psychology is that future generations will follow AM ideology, but it is not possible nowadays. They give various excuses and justifications. Here, we are not just talking about collective life such as the full implementation of Prout, but individual life as well. For instance, they say that Sixteen Points is too much to manage - that it is beyond them. Naturally, when they think that half-bath, fasting, and twice daily asanas etc are too difficult to follow in their personal life, then they do not even consider implementing Baba’s teachings on the societal level. They believe that it is strictly for the future. For instance, some say that conduct rules are only for future margiis and Wts. To the degree one falls prey to this type of psychology is the degree to which their mind is dominated by dogma.

Present & future use

Another dogma exists that there are specific departments in AMPS whose sole duty is to collect and keep Baba’s important teachings for the future generations. So they are keen to build storage units etc to hold those spiritual teachings. They think that is the best way to preserve them. But that will lead to a tremendous loss. People do not learn dharmic teachings from books, but by seeing the conduct of true practitioners. That means the present generation must embody those teachings. That is the best way to hand it down to the next generation. Thus, on many fronts, it is a complete loss to think that Baba’s divine teachings should be put in storage for future generations.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here, the key point is that dharma should be followed now, in this very moment. Every Ananda Margii should become a living example of Baba’s divine teachings. That will lead to their own welfare, as well as serve as a torchlight to humanity for how to lead a spiritual life. Then Baba’s teachings will both come to life and be preserved.

AM is for all

In the below guidelines, Baba is clearly instructing every Ananda Margii, and indeed our whole entire AM society, to live according to the ideals and teachings of AM:

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "In our A'nanda Ma'rga, 'love for all' and 'humanity is one family' are the guiding principles." (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In our Ma'rga the seeds of an ideal humanity are sown from the very beginning of life." (2)

Prout philosophy says, "In our Ma'rga spiritual practices are based on rationality." (3)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The entire society of Ananda Marga is founded on a common ideal, the goal of becoming one with Brahma." (4)

So, in this way, it is clear that Baba's teachings are meant to be followed by members of the Marga. Thus, as Ananda Margiis, we are to instill all the teachings of AM into our practical lives.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Implement in one's own life

And the following directive also gives the guideline that we are all to incorporate Baba's teachings of Ananda Marga into our very existence; for this is the road to welfare.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "By adopting a sublime ideology in practical life, one can overcome all psychic afflictions." (5)

Here again Baba warns us that theory alone is not enough, rather it is essential to reflect that very philosophy in one's conduct.

Ananda Vanii guides us, "...Book-knowledge that cannot be utilized in life has no value." (6)

New margiis also know

Therefore, it is clearly evident that the expectation is for all present day Ananda Margiis to implement the teachings of AM into our everyday way of life. And this fact is not something hidden; indeed, even every new margii is aware of this. In so many places, Baba emphasizes this idea that we should always check to see we are living according to the ideals of AM.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Specifically, in every dharmacakra, we collectively ideate on this when we recite our Supreme Command-- "Every Ananda Margii will have to perform sadhana twice a day invariably…the Lord's command is also to follow yama and niyama". These holy lines stand as further testimony that Baba's teachings are for Ananda Margiis.

Help & serve suffering humanity

So, in each and every breath of life, Baba is encouraging and guiding us to incorporate the ideals of AM into our life's routine. And, here below, Baba is directing us that by following all the respective teachings of AM, we Ananda Margiis will be able to heal the wounds of the suffering humanity.

Prout philosophy says, "Innocent human beings are at the mercy of human demons. We have to solve this problem. We must solve this problem through PROUT, Neo-Humanism, Microvita, art, literature, songs, music and spiritual Sa'dhana'. These are the panacea to solve all these problems." (7)

Prout philosophy states, "What we want is the rule of rationality. Human society is one and indivisible...This is what the spiritual philosophy of A'nanda Ma'rga says. Only due to dogmas, people think in terms of heterogeneity. There is only one ideology in the world which is not only all-embracing but also all-pervading." (8)

And, here below, Baba is saying that AM ideology has identified all the weaknesses and provided all the answers of today's social ills. Hence, Baba has directed each and every Ananda Margii to lead by example and guide the society by spreading the teachings of AM throughout this entire expressed universe.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Prout philosophy says, "Both the problems and their solutions [of today's society] have been pointed out. Now it is our bounden duty to carry this message to all nooks and corners of this world. The wind is blowing in our favour. We should carry the message to each and every particle of marrow of this living world." (9)

Conclusion

Ultimately, it is quite clear that Baba's teachings are for all Ananda Margiis to follow in this  present era. That will yield positive results on multiple fronts, including the preservation of His ideology. In contrast, putting His teaching under lock and key in cold storage solely for future generations will only set our AM society backwards. By Baba's infinite grace and supreme compassion, we will be able to please Him by inculcating His divine guidelines in our own lives and building up one healthy human society.

At His lotus feet,
Satyadharma

You create beauty

"Toma'r ka'che ca'i na' kono ma'n..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0825)

Purport:

Baba, I am not asking for any name, fame, or prestige. Those types of transitory labels I do not want from You. I wish to refrain from indulging in the vanity of all those worldly affairs. Mundane gains are ephemeral. I only wish to keep my mind only focused upon immortality. It is exclusively Your grace.

Baba, since the crimson rays of the early dawn, You have dyed my days in rainbow colours. You have decorated everything; You are so gracious. When evening falls, then I feel Your proximity and Your divine dance. I see Your liila in the form of countless stars shining in the sky. Baba, all the time, You are with me - in all spheres of my life, You have blessed me immensely and made everything charming and inviting. All that You have done for me is more than I could ever imagine. You have granted everything.

Baba, my Adored, You are present with me in the chirping of the birds, as I listen to their songs. In this way, I feel Your blissful companionship. Prabhu, You express Yourself in the frolic dance of peacocks under the clouds. When the sky is gray and overcast, then with the pirouette of the peacock You create beauty in my life.  Everywhere I feel Your sweet touch, Your eternal presence; then life becomes meaningful and joyous. You are behind each and every expression of this universe and in every form. Wherever I am, I feel that You are there - by my side. I am never alone. In my good days and bad times, always You are with me. Baba, it is Your causeless krpa...

Curative effect of sleep

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Although bodily pleasures are perceived by the mind in the wakeful state, the objects of such pleasures always come from without, with the result that the privations of the external world will always stand in the way of real happiness, as the external world cannot always supply objects in accordance with the desires and wishes of the mind. Due to this the mind has to run up and down in search of them. It becomes very agitated in the process and peace becomes and impossibility. The influence of the external world is absent during the dreamful state, accordingly the amount of pleasure is due to want of efferent desires in the mind or increased organs (for that matter here the desire is not afferent either). In the state of sleep, as the internal activities of the mind are substantially less, the amount of happiness (Static happiness) is proportionately increased.” (1)

Note: In life sometimes tragedy comes. This happens to everyone. And you might have experienced what Baba explains in the above teaching. If you lost your wallet and after that you feel asleep then at least during that time of sleep you got some relief. For this reason, those who life is inundated with problems want to sedate themselves by sleeping a lot.
