Fame today + 5 more

Baba
Fame today

Note: To understand this letter a subtle mind is needed. Those not sincere in sadhana may not understand this topic, unfortunately.

Namaskar,

In our human society, there is no dearth of "celebrities". In politics, Hollywood / Bollywood, big business, sports, and social media influencers etc, there are all kinds of so-called heroes who are famous throughout the globe. They are thought of as being great and magnificent. They are revered all over and receive huge attention.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Yet hardly anyone knows the truly great personalities who come onto this earth and teach and guide humanity and pioneer new fields of knowledge. They are mostly overlooked in their lifetime. Some of our esteemed acaryas and margii brothers and sisters are working tirelessly to uplift humanity, and they too are basically unknown to the general public.

What is the reason behind this? Why are self-engrossed stars embraced by the general public, whereas selfless, well-wishers of humanity are overlooked by society.

Wild animals not awed by humans

The operative factor is the level of public consciousness and the common psyche. People can only appreciate what they are able to understand. To appreciate subtler ideals, one must be somewhat elevated—yet the common public is low-minded. This is not a criticism of society, just the fact.

That is why people commonly express unbridled adulation towards stars dominated by animalistic propensities. Because when the general public themselves are enthralled with money, alcohol, and sensual desires then their heroes are going to be those who personify those tendencies. Those more elevated will never be appreciated by the common people.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, "The common people misunderstand great people who act on their behalf and for their welfare, or even if they understand them, they do not give them their support." (1)

What the common people think to be great is not great, and when true greatness is right in front of them, they are mostly oblivious to it. It is just like if a human being walks out into the forest then those animals will not feel a sense of awe when in the presence of that human being. They will not think he is great. Because those animals cannot conceive of anything beyond animal life.

Public cannot recognise great people, only lowly characters

100,000 might attend a rock concert or a sporting event, and only 3 people may show up to attend one of our talks on meditation. Even then we should not be concerned and think that we have failed in some way. The fact that only a few people attended our AMPS event is not indicative of our ability or quality, but rather it reflects the interests and mindset of the people.

We must always remember that the ideal and message of our Ananda Marga is far above the public standard. They are unable to recognise it for what it is. That is why so few attend programs of bhagavad dharma. Indeed it would be of concern if suddenly we were embraced by the public and written up in magazines and honoured etc. That would mean we had fallen from our ideal and had somehow gotten wrapped up in lesser activities.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In this day and age, people eagerly run after Tik-Tok fame, Hollywood movies, liquor, tall-talkers, McDonald's and sensual pleasures—not the dharmic teachings of sadvipras or Mahasambhuti. So it would be of great concern if suddenly we were very popular.

Conclusion

To gain their adulation, one will have to plunge themselves in all kinds of degrading behaviour. By this entire posting and all of Sadguru Baba's divine teachings, we can understand that as sadhakas we should not seek out the praise of the common people. The general populace is of a lesser psychic standard. And the philosophy of Ananda Marga is of such heights that the common cannot understand.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Manoranjan

Story: villagers supported conniving headmaster

Sadguru Baba's below story sheds light on how the common public becomes enthralled with lowly people and cannot recognise those who are really great.

Once there was a fierce contest between two headmasters from neighbouring villages in Burdwan district. It was also a contest between the villages themselves, for each claimed that its headmaster was the most learned. The contest took place in a field between the two villages.

One of the headmasters was a just and learned man, the other was a cunning fellow and a master of deceit. It was the latter who first addressed the gathering.

“Ladies and gentlemen, being the underdog in this contest I humbly request you to permit me to ask my opponent the first question.”

“Certainly,” said the crowd. “A man of your humility should undoubtedly ask the first question.”

“Could you tell me the meaning of ámi jáni ná?” [Note: Ámi jáni ná means “I don’t know” in Bengali.] the cunning headmaster asked his opponent.

“I don’t know,” replied the learned headmaster.

The cunning headmaster cast a triumphant glance around the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he declared, “I asked him a simple question to which he replied, ‘I don’t know’. Just see how ignorant he is.”

“True! True!” shouted his followers, throwing their umbrellas in the air and dancing stick-dances in joyful abandon. The junior village police officer was so elated that he offered to buy everyone sweets.

The cunning headmaster then said, “Let me give him another chance.”

“Certainly! Certainly!” shouted the crowd.

“Sir, what is required to make viváha?” [note: Viváha is the Sanskrit word for marriage.] asked the cunning headmaster.

“It’s quite simple really,” replied the learned headmaster, “ghaiṋ is required. That is, prefix vi plus vaha plus ghaiṋ is equal to viváha.”

The cunning headmaster glowed with delight. He peered at the crowd and said, “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, you are experts in the ways of the world – I am a mere child compared to you. Have you ever heard of anything called ghaiṋ being required in a marriage ceremony?”

“No, no, of course not,” shouted his delighted followers. “We’ve never heard of such a strange thing.”

“Let me tell you what is required in a marriage ceremony. Let’s see… a priest, a holy stone, sacred fire, new clothes, towels, baskets, and so on, but nothing like a ghaiṋ. My fourteen [[times]] two – that’s, er, that’s fifty-two – generations [[of ancestors]] have never heard of this peculiar ghaiṋ thing.”

The crowd burst into applause. “Well said! Well said!” they shouted. “You are the most learned headmaster. Congratulations. You’ve won the contest.” (2)

Calling You

"Tumi nandan-manthan candan sa'r a'j eso prabhu ghare a'ma'r..." (Prabhat Samgiita #4394)

Purport:

Baba, O’ Parama Purusa, You are the most endearing and charming Entity and as sweet as the essence of nectar. Please come to my home today. I have decorated my entire house for Your reception - for the occasion of Your august arrival. I have opened all the doors and windows of the abode of my heart, along with the thousand petals of the white lotus. I have decorated the pitcher with mango branchlets and leaves. All done with the hope that You will come in a gracious mood.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, I do not know the protocol for welcoming You, nor how to receive You in a grand way. You are anadi, beginningless, so Your lineage is not known to me. I never heard of Your gotra. And there are no particular scriptures, rituals, or dos and don'ts for chanting Your name, and calling You. So with my ista mantra I am calling You with tears in my eyes.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, I came to know that You are vast. Your idol cannot be made and You do not have an abode in any tiirtha. I never heard of any pilgrim that You like. So It is useless to search for You in the various holy lands. For all these reasons, I have created the atma'-tiirtha: Your seat in my soul. In that very divine temple, my mind is dancing, overwhelmed in the bliss of having You. Baba, please come in an attractive and exquisite way. Kindly come in my heart, I have been waiting for You since ages...

Dark history led to backlash against religion

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In the absence of knowledge of common psychology, people of different religions try to destroy other religions. This has resulted in the spilling of rivers of blood. In ancient India the Aryans tried to impose their own Vedic religion on the Austric community. In the Buddhist era, particularly during the reign of King Bimbisára, Buddhism was imposed on other religions. Later, the followers of the Sanátana Hindus forcibly converted the Buddhist and Jains into Hinduism. During Moslem rule Islam was imposed on India, Persia and Egypt. Similarly, countless Jews were converted into Christianity. During the British period attempts were made by Christian missionaries to subvert Hinduism and impose Christianity on the indigenous population. All this led to mutual animosity in the world of religion." (1)

Who has this hurdle in meditation

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Most people are well acquainted with the fourth state of mind (eka'gra). In this state the human mind sometimes becomes exalted with divine sweetness; and sometimes becomes as debased as an infernal creature. Sometimes it keeps company with good people and takes a resolve never to tell lies, accept bribes, get intoxicated, or become characterless; and sometimes it thinks that honesty and virtue are sheer folly, for happiness lies in falsehood, taking bribes, stealing, promiscuity, and the like. The mind is continuously tossed between good and bad. But when the practice of sa'dhana' inspires one to accept shreya (path of benevolence) as one’s ideology, one attains the true state of eka'gra bhu'mi. In this state waves upon waves of citta emerge."

Sha'ntaditao tulyapratyayao cittasyaeka'girata'parin'a'ma

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Every newcomer to the path of sa'dhana' suffers from a lack of concentration of mind. After repeating the is't'a mantra a couple of times hundreds of undesirable thoughts flood the mind. The newcomer thinks, “I am unable to attain the One on whom I meditate, and instead am pestered by those objects I do not want.” The hand counts the beads, the lips mutter the name of the is't'a, but the mind roams in the filth of hell. When all the undesirable waves are removed from the mind, one blissful wave begins to flow, and the sa'dhaka attains the state of eka'gra bhu'mi." (1)

Note: If in sadhana a person is not one-pointed (eka'gra means "one-pointed") it means they are not repeating their mantra in a proper manner. It means they are lacking sincerity and regularity of practice.

The razor's edge is for whom

Uttiśt́hata jágrata prápya barán nibodhata;
Kśurasya dhárá nishitá duratyayá durgaḿ pathastat kavayo vadanti.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "This path of supreme attainment is said to be a path like a razor’s edge. To tread the path of Dharma is to move on the razor’s edge. Ordinary people might say that they are bereft of intellect, that they are ignorant; how can they move on the razor’s edge? Again they would like to know the way out, and the way out is devotion. Work with devotion, go ahead with it. Wherever there is devotion, there is Paramátmá. For jiṋániis (those who want to realize God only with intellect) and logicians, the path of Dharma is a razor’s path, but, for sádhakas (spiritual practitioners), it is like a flower. Since God is attainable only by devotion, therefore He is with you. Victory will certainly be yours." (1)

Namaskar,

In Baba's above teaching, He is guiding us that a razor’s edge is impossible to travel across. For intellectuals the path to God is a razor’s edge because with their ego and limited intellect they try to figure out how to reach God, and that is impossible. Thus, for them, the path to oneness with God is a razor’s edge. It is painful and you cannot make one mistake. It is a sharp, thin line, impossible to follow.

However, if an aspirant follows their spiritual practices and remain steadfastly focused on God with bhakti, the path to Him is attainable. For bhaktas, the path is like a flower - sweet and joyous. So sadhakas should not try to try to figure everything with their own petty ego. By sincrely attending to spiritual practices and one may cultivate bhakti, by His grace. Then the path to Him will unfold before you like a flower. So every sadhakas should belong to Him - surrender the unit "I" to Parmaa Purusa - and He will belong to you.

This is what I believe Baba is telling us in this passage.

In Him,
Bhaskar

Sadhakas hidden + 4 more

Baba
Sadhakas hidden
Namaskar,

In our human society, there is no dearth of so-called celebrities. In politics, Hollywood / Bollywood, big business, and sports etc, there are all kinds of so-called heroes who are famous throughout the globe. They are thought of as being great and magnificent. They are revered all over and receive huge attention. Yet hardly anyone knows the truly great personalities who come onto this earth, teach and guide humanity, and pioneer new fields of knowledge. They are mostly overlooked in their lifetime.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Why are self-engrossed stars embraced by the general public, whereas, selfless, well-wishers of humanity are overlooked by society. What is the reason behind this?  What is the cause of this condition. Why is it that those on the path of dharma are not wholly embraced and adored by the masses.

Judges are blind

The answer is that judges are blind. The common public is the judge, and it is well-proven that the common people are fools. Why is it so?

This is the nature of srsti cakra or creation. Parama Purusa has designed the cycle of brahmacakra whereby sadhana is the final phase before attaining moksa. There are a maximum number of people moving on this earth who are not on the path of sadhana because they directly came from animal life. So they are involved in their animalistic instincts. As Ananda Margiis, our role is to try and convince and guide them onto the path of sadhana. They may not listen and they may instead indulge in all kinds of lower and worldly propensities. This is the divine drama or liila of Parama Purusa. With this outlook, Ananda Margiis will never get frustrated because they understand that their duty is to raise the banner of dharma. That is the grand liila of Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Sadhakas should not seek out the praise of the common people. The general population is of a lesser psychic standard. To gain their adulation, one will have to plunge themselves in all kinds of degrading behaviour.

In order to become an examiner one has to know more than the student. Then you can teach and evaluate that learner. In that vein, a dog cannot evaluate a human beings and determine who is great. That dog only understands food; they think those who provide food are the best. Likewise, the standard of the common mass is low and they cannot think beyond their level. If someone is just a little bit above the common standard then the general public adores them. Just as a dog salutes another dog that is a little bit bigger and stronger. But that same dog will not understand the greatness of a human being. That dog lacks the requisite ability. It is not their fault, just they are unable.

In a similar way, the common human standard is very low, close to animals. For millions of years they were submerged in animal life so they still like to indulge in those animal propensities. That is why they get attracted to those who create degrading dances, dramas, and events that trigger their propensities. Then they prostrate to that person. They revere that individual as someone great. But if someone is truly very high then the general populace cannot fathom the greatness of that person. So they ignore that great personality. That is the reason why when Mahasambhuti comes the common public is oblivious.

Conclusion

Baba has blessed us with eyes to see. We should not care about public opinion, rather we should look only towards Him. Then we will keep a balanced mind and be ready to carry out His orders and dharmic teachings. Focusing on Parama Purusa will lead one to greatness and the Goal. We are to serve and please Him. That will bring welfare to all. And while great sadhakas may not get the respect and praise of the common people at present, but when society gradually grows they will come to appreciate those contributions. It could take a few decades, a few centuries, or even longer till new values are embraced. Now people appreciate those pioneers of old, but at that time the people threw stones on them and treated them as unwanted. There are countless examples of this. Same is the case with true margiis and acaryas. In the due course everyone will pay heed to what those sadhakas have done on this earth, by His grace.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Bhaktidha’ra’

By the above discussion it is very clear that to become very famous you have to lower your standard and that is not good and bring yourself close to animals. Just a razor thin line above the common standard. That is the best way to gain prestige. That is why good people are not famous as they do not want to degenerate to become famous.

Rare to understand & follow dharma

Ananda Marga ideology states, "You should remember that those who are the actual pioneers, the real vanguard of the society, are always a microscopic minority, but it is they who are destined to be victorious. Those who once opposed, or are now opposing or will oppose in the future, will in the future admit: “Yes, we are now driving our vehicle safely and comfortably along the very path which that vanguard once opened by clearing the jungle.” This means that those who cleared the obstacles in the beginning will later be recognized as pioneers. The funny thing is this, that people do not give recognition at the time it is due. This is the natural law." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Suppose there is a virtuous discussion going on somewhere. If you invite two hundred people to this discussion, you will find that only sixty invitees have turned up, at the most. Out of these participants about ten or twelve people at most listen with patience and devotion to the talks; and out of these listeners, only some properly understand the subject discussed. Then again, out of this small group that has understood, only a very few may retain in their minds what they have understood. Lastly, only one or two persons of this last group may practice in their daily lives what they have learnt and understood. This is only due to the clash between vidyá and avidyá in the mind, and in this clash the triumph of avidyá or the extroversive force means running from the introversive bent of vidyá. It is because of the samskaras of animality that the introversive momentum is rare in the average human mind. The sensuous desires of avidyá continue to infiltrate into every thought process. Such a situation continues for a long time in a sádhaka’s life." (2)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Among so many people in our human society, very few get the opportunity to acquire spiritual knowledge. And among these, a still smaller percentage get the chance to undergo practical training. Why? Because the science is rare, the aspirants are rarer, and the teachers are rarer still." (3)

Very few learn & embody dharmic ideals

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Even after getting human life, only a few get the opportunity to listen to dharmika discourses. Among those, only a few develop the desire to practise dharma sádhaná. And even among these, only a few actually grasp the spirit of sádhaná. Those rare ones who understand, perform sádhaná, and reach the goal are truly blessed. In the effort to perfect oneself, even if one faces obstacles and hindrances from one’s elders and near ones, one must ignore them. This is not a sin, not a crime." (4)

Wealthy criminals remain free

In this below teaching Baba is pointing out how economically wealthy people indulge in anti-social activities like adulteration, drug dealing, and many other vices and illicit affairs. All the while they employ poor people to do the dirty work. In result, the poor people get arrested by law enforcement personnel while those rich, wealthy people save themselves by paying bribes or hiring high-powered lawyers. In the end, most of the profit of those gross dealings goes to rich people and the poor suffer. Due to their poverty, the poor cannot escape this cycle from one generation to the next. For instance, in the ghettos the people are perpetually incarcerated.

In this teaching, Baba is referring to crude criminal acts as well as white-collar crime. In big business and on the corporate level, the schemes are much more sophisticated. Big banks cheat millions of people out of billions of dollars. Yet, those top bankers are almost never arrested or even charged. They escape because the laws are in their favour, or they hire lawyers to find loopholes in the law. And if they do get caught and are found guilty, then 99.9% of the time those high-level executives do not go to jail. Instead they pay a fine. But if a poor person steals even a single item they will get arrested and sit in jail for robbery for twenty years.

This happens only in the vaeshyan era, and we have to raise awareness to put an end to this.

Prout philosophy states, “Most of the evils that occur in society are created due to the exploitation carried out by the vaeshyas. In order to increase the size of their bank balances, the vaeshyas create an artificial scarcity of such items as food, clothing and other essential commodities, and then earn a profit by black marketeering. Those who do not have the capacity to purchase commodities at exorbitant prices steal, commit armed robberies and engage in other criminal activities in order to obtain the minimum requirements of their lives. Poor people deprived of food and clothing work as the agents of the greedy vaeshyas engaged in black marketeering and smuggling. When these poor people are caught, they are the ones who get punished, while the vaeshyas escape thanks to the power of their money. Such ill-fated poor people lose their consciences and descend deeper into sin. Society condemns these sinners, while the rich vaeshyas, the instigators of the sinners, play the role of public leaders. They wear garlands, set off verbal fireworks, and shrilly exhort the masses to make greater sacrifices.” (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “If a child says something rational, it should be accepted, and if the Supreme Creator says something irrational, it should be totally rejected. It is undesirable to accept something just because it is written in the scriptures, because if irrational sayings are accepted and implemented, the decline of dharma will be the result.” (1)

Warning: medical errors in YT book: TP blunder

Here is the way Tiljala Publication has published the below paragraph in the Yogic Treatments book. Pay special attention to the yellow highlighted terms.

Tiljala Publications wrote: "Taking excessive fatty and oily food and not undertaking a proportional amount of physical labour loads the human nervous system down with fat, and as a result it becomes impossible for the nerves to properly assist the heart. As a result the heart becomes weak. Fat accumulated in the nerves and blood vessels terribly hampers the blood circulation, and in order to maintain the circulation, the heart is forced to overwork. As a consequence the heart soon becomes weak." (1)

By reading the above, it is clear that the yellow highlighted terms in the above passage are incorrect.

Corrected version

Here below are the suggested changes in bracketed bold red font to correct the blunders by Tiljala Publications.

"Taking excessive fatty and oily food and not undertaking a proportional amount of physical labour loads the human nervous system [circulatory system] down with fat, and as a result it becomes impossible for the nerves [arteries] to properly assist the heart. As a result the heart becomes weak. Fat accumulated in the nerves [arteries] and blood vessels terribly hampers the blood circulation, and in order to maintain the circulation, the heart is forced to overwork. As a consequence the heart soon becomes weak." (2)

Note: Anyone person, young or old, who has taken even the most basic level class in biology or human anatomy will easily realize that the way the Tiljala Publications presented this section is completely wrong. Sadguru Baba is the all-knowing Taraka Brahma, and it is our duty to ensure that His books are published with the highest accuracy and utmost integrity. Sadly, time and time again, Tiljala Publications proves that their work is flawed and clearly not up to the mark.

The first democratic state

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The first written constitution was framed by the Licchavi Dynasty of Vaeshali (in northern Bihar) in ancient India over 2500 years ago. Prior to that, the words of the king were law and kings ruled according to the advice of their ministers. The first republican democracy was established by the Licchaviis. The Licchavi Republic comprised some portion of Muzzaffarpur, portions of Begusharai, Samastipur and Hajipur between the Gandaka and Kamala rivers, all in the present state of Bihar. It was the first democratic state and they had their own written constitution." (1)

Why industrial decentralization

Prout philosophy states, "We cannot neglect even a single living being in this creation, nor can we ignore the smallest part of the universe. So, as far as possible, the industrial system should be organized according to the principle of decentralization. Industrial development in one part of the world cannot satisfactorily eradicate poverty or unemployment in another part. Therefore, in the industrial system, it is necessary to build up numerous self-sufficient units, at least for those industrial and agricultural commodities which are considered to be essential for maintaining life. Otherwise people will have to suffer tremendous hardships during war and other abnormal circumstances. With the development of transportation and communication, the size of these units can be expanded." (1)

Want to become sadvipra - 1

Ananda Marga ideology states, "How will sadvipras be created? They will be created in the continued endeavour to expand the self. By reciting holy scriptures or by acquiring a few Saḿskrta titles, one cannot succeed in spiritual pursuit. Brahma does not care who is of noble descent or high caste. The important thing is to continue sádhaná. One’s life can only be properly evaluated in the light of that struggle." (1)

Note: In His above guideline, Baba instructs us that sadvipras can only be created through their deep pursuit of sadhana. Educational attainment, scriptural degrees, and tattvikaship, acaryaship, or purodhaship have no bearing on becoming a sadvipra. Rather, such so-called accolades are a distraction and an impediment to one’s progress on the path of spirituality because they pollute the mind with vanity. So every aspirant should remain strict in their sadhana. That is the only way to get success in spiritual life and become a sadvipra.

Fast track to fame

Namaskar,

In our human society, there is no dearth of "celebrities". In politics, Hollywood / Bollywood, big business, and sports etc, there are all kinds of heroes who are famous throughout the globe. They are thought of as being great and magnificent. They are revered all over and receive huge attention. What is the reason behind this? Why are self-engrossed stars embraced by the general public; whereas, selfless, well-wishers of humanity are overlooked by society.

Why drunkards appreciate drunkards

The main theme here is that to understand something more refined, a certain calibre of mind is needed. When that is lacking in common people, they cannot appreciate higher ideals and / or subtle thoughts. In general, people only develop an appreciation for those qualities or characteristics that they themselves desire. For instance, drunkards have regard for those who can drink more alcohol. The wealthy are awed by those who have more riches than they have. And every example works in this direction. Those drunkards and avaricious capitalists will not have great respect for a sadhu. Indeed, they will not even be able to recognise a sadhu. People can only appreciate those who have something that they themselves wish to gain.

Example: majority of people are close to animality

Everyone in this cosmos reaches out for what interests them. A dog appreciates a slab of meat; a cow runs toward the grass; vultures desire dead bodies; and alcoholics dream of getting more liquor. Or we can say people gather around and appreciate those who share their own values.

Neo-humanism states, “Within a gang of thieves, one of them says appreciatively, “Oh! The sleight-of-hand of such-and-such other thief is marvellous – he has made a fool of me!” Here one pickpocket is praising another, because they belong to the same group.” (1)

Or look at it this way: Illiterate folk do not revere those who are learned and scholarly. Because it demands a certain calibre of mind to recognise real greatness. Since the mentality of the majority of common folk is always comparatively lower, that means the people whom they revere are not really great. Just those famous people appeal to the public standard. In essence, the majority of the general society does not have the requisite quality of mind to see real greatness. Knowing the formula for achieving fame and social recognition, no one on the path of Ananda Marga should then get frustrated because the public does not recognise or support us. Our duty is to please Parama Purusa and serve Him - living according to His mandates.

Average human mind is lowly

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Suppose there is a virtuous discussion going on somewhere. It is because of the saḿskaras of animality that the introversive momentum is rare in the average human mind. The sensuous desires of avidyá continue to infiltrate into every thought process. Such a situation continues for a long time in a sádhaka’s life.” (2)

Two types of people revered by the masses

From era to era, there are two categories of people who get praise. The first and chief competition is between those acting in degrading ways - i.e. in this present era that refers to movie stars, rock stars, and pseudo-culture icons etc. Such persons indulge in lowly dealings and are hailed as supreme by the masses. They get the most adulation.

The second competition for praise and respect is amongst those who are just a little bit above the standard of the majority of people. This includes certain writers with literary talent who use their skill to excite the lower propensities. And then there are (a) certain caste, racial, communal leaders, (b) as well as leaders of certain movements that promote average ideas, and (c) pseudo-dogmatic gurus etc. These people are also revered by the masses but not nearly as much as those who are degenerated filmy or sensual beings.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Finally, Ananda Marga ideology is far above the public standard; so Ananda Margiis do not fall within either of these categories. That is why those strict in Ananda Marga ideals will never receive widespread acclaim. To get praise, one must be either very low or a little above the common standard.

Ananda Marga is far above average people

The standard of Ananda Marga is high - far above. Though yoga has become so popular with the masses as tens of millions attend classes everyday, yet still that is not translating into huge numbers of new people in Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha. If we get even a few new people who are serious about Ananda Marga sadhana and lifestyle then that is a lot.

So we must not be concerned with numbers or popularity. That is not where our value lies. Our worth to society lies in upholding the tenets of bhagavat dharma. We should always remember that life is not a popularity contest - i.e. a competition to garner the praise of others. Because the public standard is low, and they become easily swayed in either direction.

The overarching idea is that a person can express appreciation only according to their own understanding. So when the majority of the public is low-minded we should not expect them to start singing our praises. Rather we should know ahead of time that they are going to worship pop stars etc. Bearing this in mind, there is no chance we will become confused - rather we will remain unaffected by public praise and censure and we will move ahead in our dharmic works and spiritual practices.

Why great people never recognised in their lifetime

Baba has graciously blessed us with eyes to see. We should not care about public opinion and look only towards Him. Then we will keep a balanced mind and be ready to carry out His orders and dharmic teachings. Focusing on Him will lead us to greatness and the Goal. We are to serve and please Him. That will bring welfare to all. And while we may not get the respect and praise of the common people, in due course everyone will pay heed to what true margii / Wts have done on this earth, by His grace.

This is the natural law." (3)

If you appeal to their desires you will degrade yourself

The common people goaded by materialistic values do not have the capacity to understand the greatness of Ananda Marga ideology. And this is not just limited to the teachings of Ananda Marga. Those common citizens do not value so many who have done great works for society. Such pioneers are never recognised in their lifetime, rather often they are attacked and persecuted. In the past, so many great writers, social thinkers, scientists, and philosophers were mistreated in this way. Only centuries after their death  were such pioneers revered.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Just as the owl cannot appreciate the beauty of the daytime, similarly common citizens cannot appreciate higher ideals. Those who want the respect of materialistic-minded persons will have to behave in a similar fashion, i.e. in accordance with the aims and desires of the majority in the general society. Remember, people have emerged slowly after passing through countless animal lives. So on the whole, they are far more familiar with those lower propensities than higher ideals. They prefer animality to humanity, what to speak of divinity.

So no sadhaka should stand in front of the common people and hope to be appreciated. They should not harbour this desire. Because what the common people appreciate is not what you have, and if you appeal to their desires then you will degrade yourself. So do not think about how much praise you are receiving from the common people, but rather how far you are leading a life according to the tenets of universal humanism and the great cosmic ideology.

Conclusion

Remember, people have emerged slowly after passing through countless animal lives. So on the whole, they are far more familiar with those lower propensities than higher ideals. They prefer animality to humanity, what to speak of divinity.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

By this entire letter and all of Sadguru Baba's divine teachings, we can understand that as sadhakas we should not seek out the praise of the common people. The general population is of a lesser psychic standard. To gain their adulation, one will have to plunge themselves in all kinds of degrading behaviour.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Abhimánaḿ surápánaḿ. Gaoravaḿ raoravaḿ dhruvam – – “self-aggrandizement has got its abode in naraka [hell].” Pratiśt́há shúkariiviśt́há – “pratiśt́há, that is, love for a social position, is the worst thing, and you should give up this thing.” (4)

Majority of fools

Prout philosophy states, "There are several forms of governmental structure, and among them the democratic structure is highly appreciated [by some persons]. Democracy is defined as “government of the people, by the people and for the people.” But in fact it is the rule of the majority. Hence democracy means “mobocracy” because the government in a democratic structure is guided by mob psychology. The majority of the society are fools; wise people are always in a minority. Thus, finally democracy is nothing but “foolocracy”." (5)

Great people are always very few in number

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Suppose there is a virtuous discussion going on somewhere. Such a situation continues for a long time in a sádhaka’s life." (6)

Very few humans learn & embody dharmic ideals

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Even after getting human life, only a few get the opportunity to listen to dharmika discourses. This is not a sin, not a crime." (7)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Among so many people in our human society, very few get the opportunity to acquire spiritual knowledge. And among these, a still smaller percentage get the chance to undergo practical training. Why? Because the science is rare, the aspirants are rarer, and the teachers are rarer still." (8)

New spiritual era

Baba says, "To move ahead from physicality to intellectuality is the Proutistic order. It is the surest movement of human life -- it is the surest movement of human destiny...human beings will be making tremendous progress in the realms of intellectuality and intuition. The human beings of that future age will be very sensitive. The efferent nerves will be more active than the afferent nerves, and subtle experiences will be more common than they are now. Today human beings seldom have subtle experiences, but in the future they will occur naturally and spontaneously." (1)

Is patriotism positive?

Prout philosophy states, "According to PROUT, there are two types of sentiments – positive sentiments and negative sentiments. Positive sentiments are synthetic in nature. They unite society and elevate humanity, enhance collective interests and encourage progressive development. Negative sentiments are narrow in scope and divide society...Some negative sentiments include communalism, patriotism, nationalism, provincialism, lingualism, and racism." (1)
