Vital point: controlling baser propensities + 2 more

Baba

Vital point: controlling baser propensities

Namaskar,

One of the most important aspects of spirituality is knowing how to keep the mind moving in a sentient direction, as well as recognising when the mind is starting to degrade.

Four basic propensities

All human beings have four inborn or basic propensities: ahar (hunger), nidra (sleep), bhaya (fear), and maethuna (procreation). These are present within each and every person, and one becomes great by gaining control over these propensities-- because then the mind will flow swiftly and smoothly towards the path of dharma and one's spiritual ideal.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Failing that, the mind will move outwardly towards the mundane world via the indriyas (motor & sensory organs) and will be expressed in the form of these 4 cruder propensities. Unfortunately, in today's materialistic society, nearly the whole population is involved in this degenerated way of life.

Of course, for sadhakas, our way is different. We are to direct the mind towards the atman or soul and from there to God-- never allowing the flow of mind to degrade and blindly run after these four basic propensities, or any other debased desires.

How to control these propensities

The question then is how to control these four basic propensities. Here, Baba Himself provides us with the answer.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The peculiar nature of these propensities is this: if they are given indulgence, they increase. And they easily come under control with a slight effort; only in the initial stage, one must struggle a little to control them." (1)

Thus, if we encourage these propensities-- if we act on them-- then that particular vrtti or propensity will multiply exponentially, and one will become a slave to that propensity.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "As with any of the four vrttis, if sleep is encouraged, people can spend twenty-three out of the twenty-four hours of their day in sleep." (2)

Hence, just as one can sleep all day long, one can be totally dominated by any of the 4 cruder propensities, if they are encouraged. A man can eat 150 eggs if that is his choosing. A person can become extremely fearful of each and every thing in this universe if the fear vrtti is encouraged. Likewise, one's entire existence can be swallowed up by sexual lust if one is not careful. Here again Baba guides us with the basic step for how to proceed.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy guides, "They [the 4 basic propensities] easily come under control with a slight effort." (3)

So if we discourage those cruder propensities-- that is, by not acting on them blindly— then their effect on the mind will diminish, and the mind will be free to move towards a higher ideal.

How sex vrtti gets encouraged

Yet, in this crude era of extreme materialism, of degenerated capitalism, in almost each and every direction one looks, the sex vrtti is encouraged: in advertisements, on the internet, in movies, by risque dress on the street, and so many ways. Naturally then, the bulk of the population gets pulled in that direction, resulting in sexual diseases, unplanned pregnancies, ruined marriages, and the degeneration of mind such that peace and composure can never be found.

So all sadhakas should take proper care, and, if at any time, the mind accidentally gets exposed to even remotely sexually oriented things-- such as when browsing the internet-- then immediately we should close our eyes, take Baba's name, and see His image in dhyana. In a word, we are to ask His grace. That is the only way. Otherwise, that crude picture will flash in the mind again and again. So it must be dissolved and replaced or diverted with something else-- namely Guru's image. In this way, we will always get success because Baba's grace is far more powerful than those crude vrttis.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Discourage & channelise

So the two-step approach in AM for overcoming sexual lust and the domination of any of the four baser propensities is (a) discouragement and (b) channelisation.

Discouragement, as discussed above, means not indulging in that direction whether it be excess sleep, overeating, fear complex, or lustful desires. If one does not mentally or physically move in that direction, then the mind will not be prone to flowing that way. Hence, the mind will be free to move in a sentient manner, which leads into the next point, i.e. channelisation.

As sadhakas, we are to cultivate an inner relationship with Parama Purusa through our sadhana and dhyana. As Baba explains in His book, Namami Krsna Sundaram, the sadhaka is to adopt one of the various bhavas-- friend, father, slave, innermost—whichever one feels natural. Through that relation, the mind will be able to run towards Parama Purusa. Then one's crude propensities will be wholly diverted and channelised towards Guru, and the degrading effect of those crude propensities will wane, diminish, and disappear.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In a nutshell, this is Baba's proven and scientific way for overcoming the bondage of the four crude vrttis and inviting bliss into one's life.

Special spiritual guidelines

Here are more key points for every sadhaka to be aware about:

* The way to divert sexual energy is by making a relation with Parama Purusa in sadhana. But when the eyes are open and one is walking down the street, then we are to look upon all females as mother. That is the tantric depiction of women. Then the feeling of lust will not arise because one will be involved in the sentient ideal that women are the mothers of men. Likewise, sisters should think that all males are their father; that will also discourage the sex impulse. But, far and away, it is brothers who suffer more from this problem as society exploits females and objectifies females as the tools of male enjoyment.

* In order to overcome crude propensities, Buddhists resort to negative ideation and hatred by thinking of females merely as a combination of biological parts such as the stomach with its undigested food or the bowels with its storage of waste. That is how the Buddhist doctrine advises practitioners to overcome sexual feelings. But this breeds disgust, revulsion, and hatred in the mind, which is why it is far more suitable and appropriate to adopt the tantric ideal that all women are to be looked upon as mother.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

* Avidya maya wants to keep each and every person in her clutch. That is why when she sees anyone adopt the spiritual path then she hurls thousands of obstacles in that person's way in hopes of derailing their progress. Indeed maya is just like a female spy that is sent into enemy territory to get information by using her sexual appeal. Those who fall prey do not understand what they are getting themselves into. Same with the sadhaka who falls prey to lust etc. That sadhaka does not realise that it is merely mahamaya trying to bind them in her clutch.

* The human mind cannot go in two directions. So if the mind adopts a particular bhava and links up with Parama Purusa, then that mind will be less susceptible to degradation because the mind can only go in one direction. And when the mind is wholly engaged in spiritual pursuit, then there is absolutely no chance of degradation. So it all depends on the degree to which one is involved in sadhana.

* The whole path of mysticism is to withdraw the mind from the physical organs (indriyas) and channelise the mind toward the atman or soul, and from the unit soul reach God. Unfortunately, nowadays, many travel the opposite path and their mind flows towards the indriyas and from there they crudely interact with the mundane world, thereby indulging in those crude propensities.

* Above all, the most important point is that when tempted in any negative direction, then immediately seek out and ask the sweet grace of Parama Purusa and request Him to save you from all sorts of problems and difficulties. Then surely He will respond by showering His grace, and you will be saved because His grace is more powerful than any force in this universe.

Conclusion

Baba has given us all the tools and inherent longing to cultivate more and more anurakti, or more precisely para'nurakti, in life-- thereby shedding the effect of the crude, basic propensities like sex etc, and developing greater closeness and love for Him.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "When one’s psychic attraction is toward the crude, the mind has a downward tendency, which leads to one’s eventual downfall. But when the mind moves upward it is called anurakti [attraction for the Great]. The consummation of this attraction is devotion." (4)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Anurakti is of two kinds. The anurakti for the Supreme Brahma or Infinite Cosmic Consciousness is para'nurakti. The anurakti for Brahma under the sway of prakrti or the anurakti for the crude manifestations is termed apara'nurakti. God is an object for para'nurakti. When the aspirant considers the Supreme Brahma to be his own, it is termed bhajana' or bhakti." (5)

In Him,
Jiivendra

Further research & review

In the book “Yogic Treatments”, Baba has given many direct and indirect methods in the physical sphere for controlling the sex vrtti. Further research and writing should be done to bring all those points to the fore. In the psychic realm, a key way to control the sex vrtti is to refine one’s values and sense of self, viewing oneself as a psychic being as opposed to a physical entity indulged in baser propensities. And in the spiritual realm, the way to control sex is to surrender oneself to Parama Purusa, as discussed above.

I come close to You

"Tumi esechile maner nikhile, manke bhariya' royecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #1514)

Purport:

The loving Parama Purusa, You came in my mental abode, arrived in my Guru cakra, and filled my inner world again and again with Your inexplicable bliss, by showering Your grace - satiating me with Your sweet touch. Each and every cell of my existence is ensconced in You. I am immersed in Your ideation. My Supreme Entity, with Your endless compassion, You have coloured my I-feeling with Your colour. I am completely engaged and riveted by Your resplendent glory and charm. You have stolen my existence. All my thoughts reside in You. It is Your mercy.

Parama Purusa, Jewel of my innermost self, You are in my heart, sadhana, and Guru cakra -  watching and keeping me under Your shelter. I have immense affection for You. From the outside You cannot be perceived. Externally, You are invisible and always remain hidden from the senses. You are hiding from all and cannot be seen. You can only be perceived from within, by the inner eye. In the refulgence of my mental lotus, You are emanating Your Magnificent Self. Baba, it is Your causeless krpa.

Parama Purusa, I have so much prema for You. You are Parama Purusa - cosmic, vast, and infinite; and I am a human being - unit, meagre, and tiny. My Nearest, You are the Great Ocean, and I am a mere tiny drop of water. There is no comparison between the two of us. Even then, without any fear I come close to You. This is not due to my effort; it is due to Your sublime attraction. Because of Your stunning divine beauty, I have fallen in love with You.

Baba, O' Parama Purusa, my life is filled with countless ups and downs. So many of my hopes, aspirations, and desires have been shattered. Facing all these difficulties - amidst hundreds of sorrows - I smile because You are in my being. The Gopal who is the essence of grand benevolence, in the world of songs, and in the spectrum of ideation, it is Your blessing that I have been allowed to hold You.

Baba, You are the most Merciful One and have brought me under Your eternal care. This is Your krpa’ I surrender unto You...

Info for youths: their changing bodies + 3 more

Baba
Info for youths: their changing bodies

Namaskar,

At present, misinformation and misunderstandings about procreation are being transmitted by the mass media, textbooks, internet, school boards, government, academic studies etc. In all these agencies and avenues the wrong kind of education is in vogue. The preachings and advice are misguided and that adversely affects our youths.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

What to teach to pre-pubescent

In the true sense, education about the reproductive glands means proper understanding and use of those glands in order to goad the mind in a sentient direction. If those glands are misused the results are disastrous. Proper education means informing youths about their developing physical bodies, and teaching them how to goad the mind toward the psychic and spiritual fields. This is what children should be taught upon entering adolescence.

Youths should be fully informed how the right use of their developing bodies can lead them to greatness. With the development of the reproductive glands comes courage, tenacity, idealism, compassion, kindness, intellectual sharpness, and love for the Supreme. All of this Baba clearly discusses in His discourses. The curriculum for adolescents should highlight how those glands help develop the entire human personality. With this clear-cut understanding and empowerment, youths will have the requisite logic and reasoning to steer clear of depraved behaviour.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Right use of those glands make person great

(A) Here Baba guides us how the reproductive glands are linked with high qualities of mind and proper conduct. In this below quote Baba tells us how restraint leads to greater intelligence as the lymph is best utilised.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "If the testes function properly and if there is no hindrance from the lymphatic glands, intelligence will develop. Without the testes, the solar plexus will not be developed and intelligence will decrease." (1)

(B) In this below teaching Baba guides us how the reproductive glands promote clear thinking - so restraint is important, otherwise that faculty of mind will not develop.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "If the testes are properly-active and there is the proper secretion of hormones, a youth develops the spirit of rationality." (2)

(C) In this next teaching Baba guides us how the right use of those glands make the person great.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "If the secretion of the testes glands is normal, a sense of dutifulness will be created in the mind." (3)

(D) Finally, those glands are highly related with spiritual thirst and creating a link with the Supreme.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "If there is proper-secretion, a youth acquires the power to transform that longing into universalism. In those of you who have a longing for Parama Purus'a [Supreme Consciousness], a proper-secretion took place in your hormones between the ages of fifteen and seventeen. At that stage the idea to become great comes into the mind." (4)

Best to safeguard lymph

If anyone wishes to become an ideal human being, they should be aware that their glandular system has to be maintained and used properly. This should be reinforced again and again to our youths. We will have to teach the point that the lymph is "food for the brain" and "food for the glands", and should not get senselessly converted into spermatozoa and wasted.

Ananda Marga philosophy states,"In males the testes are the glands which convert lymph into semen. As soon as lymph is converted into semen, the nerves are affected and there is a corresponding change in one’s thoughts. It is the pituitary gland which tells the testes to convert lymph into semen [that is, testosterone and spermatic fluid]. When the production of lymph goes beyond the capacity of the body to utilize it, it is converted into semen and comes out of the body." (5)

Unfortunately, in today's society, the lower vrttis are encouraged by negative propaganda in which case many youths and young adults cannot develop the right qualities in life.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Our aim then is to give youths the right theoretical knowledge to understand that it is in their best interests to safeguard lymph. Those youths should not allow themselves to be lulled in the wrong direction. That would be disastrous for them. If they have the right awareness about this and exercise restraint, they will develop all kinds of great qualities in life. Then they will be in the best position to become a true leader in society and an extraordinary aspirant.

Physically transmitted diseases

Our adolescence education curriculum will be radically different from what the general society is currently doing. At present, they teach self-stimulation to adolescents, use of condoms and other forms of contraception, as well as many other points related with this. They expect teens to engage in this way, and even encourage them in this regard. Whereas the point of our discussion is to goad youths in another direction entirely.

Because those youths who are are encouraged and allured into degrading activities get caught up in so many problems: disease (gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes), crime (date rape, pedophilia, sexual predator), death (AIDS etc) and so many other issues like poor student life, teenage pregnancy etc. That is the outcome of degenerative behaviours. And verily, these outcomes are pervasive throughout the youth population in materially oriented areas.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Female diseases

In particular, young girls should receive extensive education and training about female diseases. Baba has placed much emphasis on the care of women in this regard and young girls should be fully schooled in this way. It is a tragedy that so many females in materialistic nations suffer from such ailments. Males also suffer but generally not as badly as females as the female biological system is more complex. Additionally, the point of teen-pregnancy remains a serious problem.

We should warn our youths about the pains, shame, harm, and depravity of related diseases. Such diseases can make a person sterile, bedridden, and even lead to death. No one ever thinks that they themselves will contract a disease or suffer hygienic problems. But it happens. That is why we should warn our youths about this. They think everything will be fine, but it is not true. Awful problems are destined to mount if anyone travels down that dark road.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Many get caught up in negative relationships

The other danger is that physical contact is not just a vice like alcohol or cigarettes. There is a huge emotional attachment as well - another human being is involved. Youths get attached to the opposite gender and spend all their time with them and their studies get left by the wayside. Even a good student can lose their ability to concentrate and focus, both due to emotional attachment and lack of lymph.

Just the other day, one tragic case occurred where one college student murdered his ex-girlfriend (a student at the same college) due to extreme jealousy. So now the girl's life is over and the boy will spend the rest of his life in jail. Their dreams are shattered and their lives ruined. And both were smart students attending a prestigious school. Yet intimate involvement destroyed all that they had and destroyed their existence. And in materialistic societies, these types of tragic, yet heinous, crimes are occurring on regular basis because people become emotionally entrapped in relationships which they are unable to handle. And it all starts with bodily allurement and a lack of knowledge about their own instincts.

Sadly, there is no shortage of other cases where youths spend all their time arguing and compromising their values because of highly emotional feelings for the opposite gender. Instead of having a successful academic career and paving the way for a bright future, they get caught up in negative relationships and their whole life gets derailed in that way - missed opportunities, or even worse. These represent but some of the many pitfalls and horrors.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

We should remind our youths that Parama Purusa is watching everything and He does not like to see His young children absorbed in degrading and deviant behaviours etc. We have now discussed both the benefits of right understanding that lead to the development of the higher human personality, as well as the horrible outcomes of wrong understanding wherein youths get caught up in disease and strife and ruin their entire life. The next matter is how to fortify our youths to move in the right direction. They need to know what to do in order to avoid the pitfalls and progress in a proper manner.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “It is not at all desirable for adolescents and young people to remain ignorant of sexual matters.” (6)

Curriculum: reproductive glands related issues

1) Right Company: Boys should befriend boys and girls should befriend girls. Never should members of the opposite gender be together in a lonely, isolated place. This could start early in the pre-pubescent years, as some girls begin the process of puberty as early as 7-years-old. And some boys start entering adolescence at the age of 8.

2) Yoga: Youths should be encouraged in all kinds of yogic practices like sadhana, kiirtan, asanas, kaoshikii and tandava. This will goad their mind in the right direction as well as keep their bodies healthy, balanced, and sentient.

3) Regular Fasting: At a young age, students should start fasting. If they are still in elementary school or primary education the fasting can be modified. This type of modified fasting (such as not eating rice or bread on the night of ekadashii etc and instead eat lighter foods) is extremely important for instilling the overall idea and discipline of fasting. Plus those young kids will look forward to the day when they are deemed old enough to do real fasting, i.e. after they enter into puberty.

Another reason why starting early is important is because up until the age of 10 or 12 children are extremely obedient. So they will readily adopt the fasting routine. Once they become teenagers, it may already be too late to implement regular fasting if those kids have not been doing it up until that point. Those teens might rebel; they may think that since their friends are not fasting then why should they fast. Indeed all kinds of problems can crop up if there is a delay.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

So starting earlier is best. Once established in the overall idea of fasting, then by early adolescence and young adulthood, our youths should be on a regular fasting program. This will divert their physical energy away from lower inclinations and will give them strength of mind and time for spiritual practice.

4) Proper Dress: From the time of pre-pubescence, our boys should be psychologically taught and convinced about wearing a laungota. Our Ananda Marga has a scientific system that helps in restraint. And this practice should be instilled in our youths at a pre-pubescent age. At the same time, youths should be taught to wear clothing that is not the least bit provocative. Unfortunately now in materialistic nations many of our students wear revealing clothing and that drives the whole existence in the wrong direction. So we should psychologically teach and enforce our code for appropriate dress.

5) Sixteen Points: Our youths should get the full teaching about joint hair, use of water, half-bath, and other key points of health and hygiene such as applying oil to the joints. By this special system, the glands are kept cool and the mind is diverted upwards. These all need to be aspects of our curriculum.

6) "Cakuna samvaro...": Here below Baba guides us that one should have control over their motor and sensory organs.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Caks'un'a' Sam'varo Sa'dhu” O spiritual aspirant! O Bhiks'u! O monk! O devotee! You should have proper control over your eyes; whatever will have bad effect on your mind, you must not see it. “Sa'dhu Sotena sam'varo”. Whatever will have bad effect on your mind, O good man, you must not hear it. “Gha'nena Sam'varo Sa'dhu.” You should have control over your nose, “Sa'dhu Jibha'ya Sam'varo.” You should have control over your taste. “Ka'yena Sam'varo Sa'dhu.” You should have control over your body. “Sa'dhu Va'ca'ya Sam'varo.” You should have control over your language also; and “Savvatha Sam'varo Bhiks'u.” If you want emancipation, if you want liberation from worldly fetters, you must have all-round restraint." (7)

This is a key point in this media-centered era, youths should keep away from websites, movies, music, television - and all forms of stimuli that goad the mind in the wrong (degrading) direction. That means our youths need to be introduced to a whole new modality. If we put forth some effort - spiritual clubs, sports, and strict use over technology etc - then our youths can easily get success.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

As Ananda Margiis, we should have our stand and present our curriculum to youths. Once established, those in the general society will take shelter in our programs as well. Because our way is for the welfare of the entire society. We should keep in mind that if we do not take the lead on this topic, then our adolescent youths will learn from others such as the media or their peers. In that case, their training will be in the wrong direction.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Mother Shridevii

Pro-actively guide our youths, otherwise…

Remember, if we fail to guide our youths, then they will learn from the general society. Their void will get filled with the lowly dogma of pop (pseudo) culture. In that case, our innocent youths will be indoctrinated into the dogma that fulfillment in life comes from intimate relations and that self-stimulation is a key practice for adolescents - among so many other dogmas and myths. These messages are harmful and highly detrimental to youths.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

~ In-depth study ~

How Sigmund Freud is wrong

Here Baba clearly rejects the notion put forth by Sigmund Freud that humans are primarily motivated by sexual attraction. Rather, human beings do everything in search of happiness.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Attraction towards material objects is called káma or passion. Here káma does not mean the desire of any particular organ. Some psychologists have maintained that the sexual urge, a particular expression of káma is the root cause of all types of mundane attractions and activities. This statement is wrong, for attraction is the characteristic of all unit entities and such attraction will certainly not always be sexual. Those psychologists that give undue importance to sexual lust, betray their own vulgar and licentious mentality. As I have already said, not each and every attachment or attraction is born of sexual desire. Each unit being is vulnerable to attraction but the cause of this attraction is the imperative urge for self-preservation. It is only because of this urge for self-preservation that unit beings run after crude, subtle or causal expressions. And this urge for self-preservation, too, arises due to the desire for happiness in every living being. So it is clear that behind every attraction between one entity and another, which we call by the name of káma, lies the pure desire for attaining happiness. Happiness is the ultimate desire of life, not lust. It is not a matter of sexual or sensual passion at all." (8)

Duty: protect vitality of our youths

We are to raise our youths into this world in the proper way and teach them all they need to know to get success. This is our way - then society will truly flourish.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Our world needs a great change in order to move forward and progress. A new order, a new wave, will have to take the place of the old to remedy all the physical, social, intellectual and spiritual ills of the world. As the vanguard of this new movement, the youth are indispensable. It is the youth, and the youth only, who have the vigour to bring about the necessary change. It is the youth who have the resilience to change and adapt and implement the vision of a new society. Without this vision, without the youth, the world will continue in the morass of suffering, injustice and exploitation that is our present social condition. It is the youth of the world only who can help bring about the new world order and the vision of a new humanity." (9)

AM, abortion, & politics

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “Abortion is killing the potentialities...there is hardly any difference between you and an embryo...he [the embryo] is now within the body of the mother. And you are outside the body of the mother...You have got no moral right to kill him.” (1)

Note: Many often mistake liberalism for Ananda Marga teachings. Ananda Marga ideology is neither "liberal" nor "conservative"; it has nothing to do with such terms. Rather, AM ideology has only to do with truth, i.e. dharma.

For example, AM ideology teaches that a human being's life begins at the time the sperm and egg join to form a fertilized egg. Due to that we do not support abortion. Abortion represents the murder of a human being. That having been said, nor do we support the "conservative" approach to this issue because the conservatives are unwilling to take responsibility as a society for the babies which are born. If abortion is removed from the table, it has to be recognized that people are going to continue getting pregnant when they did not want or intend to in all sorts of situations. Those babies will be born and society must take responsibility for the proper care and upbringing of those children, so they can grow and develop with all the same opportunities as other children and become successful in their lives. Conservatives are staunchly against "big government", and oppose funding social programs which are vitally needed for the support of all these babies which will be getting born in unplanned / unwanted situations. The conservative position on this issue is completely hypocritical and indeed harmful. They want to stop abortions, yet have no concern or sympathy for the babe once it is born.

In addition, these conservatives raise the hue and cry of "Pro-life!", and then go home at night and have steak for dinner. By this, we are not equating human and animal life, but are saying that to be "pro-life" as a policy one must be sincere in really supporting life. The more developed the creature, the more its life is to be protected. We know Baba's teaching regarding ahimsa; the conservatives are total hypocrites on this point of "pro-life".

We can understand then that Ananda Marga ideology walks the line of truth; it has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. This point should be clearly understood by Margiis around the world. And this only underscores and calls out more, the critical need for ideological discussion. That is the only way difficult, sensitive societal issues can be raised and brought to the fore in light of Ananda Marga ideology. Unfortunately, nowadays many are either scared to speak the truth on these matters, or are themselves blind and in the dark as to what Ananda Marga ideology actually says. All the more need for the young so-called liberal Margiis to study Ananda Marga ideology, discuss these matters in a meaningful way, and come to know how Sadguru Baba is guiding the society forward.

In Him,
Shriidhar

Story: Ask for that which is permanent

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Ya'jinavalkya asked, 'What would you like?'" "Maetreyii replied: 'Yena'ham' na'mrtasya'm' tena'ham' kim kurya'm'" "'What will I do with things which will not remain with me permanently? Of what use are the objects which will not establish me in immortality?...'Please give me that thing which will remain with me permanently, which I'll be able to preserve forever, which will establish me in immortality. I don't want anything else.'" "Then Ya'jinavalkya gave her a number of instructions, upon which a major part of Raja Yoga is based'." (1)

Note: As described in the above teaching, worldly things do not remain with us very long. That is why ideal people goad their mind towards Parama Purusa. Being Parama Purusa and Guru, Baba has given us the path. On this point, we are extremely fortunate. Now our main duty is to follow His ideological teachings, i.e the path to Supreme fulfillment.

Prepping for teenage years + 5 more

Baba
Prepping for teenage years
Namaskar,

Youths should be fully informed how the right use of their growing bodies can lead them to greatness. With the development of the reproductive glands comes courage, tenacity, idealism, compassion, kindness, intellectual sharpness, and love for the Supreme. All of this Baba clearly discusses in His discourses. So the curriculum for adolescents should highlight how those glands help develop the entire human personality. With this clear-cut understanding and empowerment, youths will have the requisite logic and reasoning to steer clear of depraved behaviour.

Use logic to teach youths about maya

Once one enters adolescence, those youths are no longer small kids. They have a mind that wants to know the logic and reasoning behind a given topic. Then they will be convinced - otherwise not. That is why we should address issues of gender and reproduction with them on this level and educate them about Ananda Marga spiritual philosophy.

Those youths should understand that all jiivas are bound by maya and the cosmic operative principle is keen to keep people in bondage, i.e. enslaved, and wants to multiply the creation and carry on with srsti cakra. This is the agenda of maya. And verily most give in to her wishes and become her faithful servants, but this is not a glorified stance for sadhakas. Rather it is a weakness.

If youths are aware about the ways of maya and the cosmic operative principle ahead of time, then they will be ready to fight and divert the mind away from the baser propensities and grab hold of the platform of spirituality. By this way, they will gain success. If they understand this topic - through logic and reasoning - that will be a great boon for their overall human progress. Failing that, they may just fall into the clutches of maya, as is happening now with the youths in all materialistic countries.

Ideal time to talk to kids: just before puberty

The next aspect concerning our curriculum centers around timing. Specifically, when should it be introduced. It should not be presented at too early an age, nor too late. Slowly introducing this topic about 1 year before children reach puberty is ideal. At that point, they can learn about wearing a laungota and using the right undergarments etc.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Then, progressively, more points should be introduced as children begin to enter puberty etc. The main idea being that children should have the knowledge they need ahead of time. That way they can prepare. It is just like being told about a hurricane before it strikes. If one is forewarned then all kinds of preparations can be made, and when the hurricane hits one will be safe and secure.

Same is the case for those entering into adolescence. The more the children know ahead of time - so long as it is presented in a serious manner and by the right person (discussed below) - then our youths will be able to avert so many problems and find the right course in life. So timing is a key point. The child should not be forced to raise questions on their own or be left to learn from their peers. That should be avoided at all cost - then it means that the right time has passed.

We should be vigilant because although there is a general time period that is appropriate for most kids, there are bound to be some who need instruction and guidance earlier. We should be tuned in and ready.

Next it needs to be considered: Who should lead these talks / training classes, and what should be the tone & environment of the talk. The person leading this education series might be a teacher, a respected elder, or an acarya - or anyone else the parents of the community deem appropriate. Generally speaking, it should not fall directly upon the parents to impart this knowledge since many children prefer not to talk about this with their parents.

Whoever is selected to guide our youths, that designated person should be (a) a sadhaka of Ananda Marga, (b) familiar with Baba's teachings in Yoga Psychology and Yogic Treatments, (c) of proper moral character, and (d) well-regarded as a teacher.

These are the absolute minimum requirements of the guide.

Creating an ideal atmosphere during the talks

Now let's discuss the teaching environment:

1) Taught by gender: This topic should not be co-education. There should be strict separation along gender lines. A respected female will teach girls, and a well-regarded male will teach boys. Under no circumstances should there be boys and girls in the same class. Nor should a male teacher lead the girls or vice-versa. It should be a gender-separated environment.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

2) No jokes or debased comments: The tone of the talk should be of a serious nature and those with questions should be encouraged, not ridiculed. Thus the teacher will have to establish a proper forum where all feel included and silly jokes and / or lewd comments are eliminated. In sum, a positive, safe, inclusive, and respectful forum needs to be established.

3) Emphasize science: The curriculum should be science based. Baba has given great teachings about the glands of the human body, the role of lymph, the functioning of mind, and the relationship between mind and body. Thus, this course should include all the teachings and draw from the fields of human anatomy and physiology, biology, metaphysics and intuitional science.

4) Recording: The forums should be recorded via audio or video so that parents can review what is going on. Mothers should address issues with their daughters; and fathers should speak with their sons. Thus within the unit family also communication will be gender-separated. Thus these recordings will be helpful as parents also need to be in the know. Plus, there may be other uses for such media.

Diseases related with over-indulgence

It is imperative that all children be taught ahead of time about the adverse and dangerous aspects of carrying out physical relations. Just as a patient going in for surgery should be instructed about the possible negative outcomes beforehand, it is even more important for kids to be educated about the harmful aspects of exciting those lower glands. Because they are trusting and relying upon us to tell them all they need to know. Withholding any information is a form of deception. Thus it is absolutely integral to bring our children in the know about these following aspects.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In His book, Yogic Treatments, Baba warns us about the various diseases related with over-indulgence and ignorance, and how to cure them.

(A) Syphilis: "With syphilis, non-vegetarian food, onion, garlic, too much spice, all kinds of sweets, and milk products are to be strictly avoided...Fasting is also very beneficial in this disease. Syphilis patients must fast on ekádashii, púrńimá and amávasyá...The patient should never completely fill the stomach at the evening meal, and that too should be finished by 8 or 8:30 p.m. Sleeping during the day, staying awake at night, and mingling with crowds should be avoided... All types of intoxicants are to be avoided like poison." (1)

(B) Seminal Weakness: "Low thinking, bad company, intoxicants and non-vegetarian food should be completely given up. Seeing pornographic pictures or films, reading pornographic literature, etc. are also to be forsaken." (2)

(c) Hydrocele: "All types of nutritious food can be taken. However, a very close watch must be kept on the regular clearing of the bowels. Fast on ekádashii, púrńimá and amávasyá...Sexual thoughts and excitement are among the causes of hydrocele, so the more one can stay away from these things the better. Patients should use kaopiinas [laugotas]." (3)

And step by step Baba reviews so many related diseases in the book Yogic Treatment and gives the solution.

Conclusion

This is a small look into what our adolescent education curriculum might look like. We should keep in mind that if we do not take the lead on this topic, then our youths will learn from others such as the media or their peers etc. In either case, their training will be in the wrong direction.

As Ananda Margiis, we should have our stand and present our curriculum. Once established, those in the general society will take shelter in our programs as well. Because our way is for the welfare of the entire society.

We are to bring our youths into this world in the proper way and teach them all they need to know to get success. This is our way - then society will truly flourish.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Our world needs a great change in order to move forward and progress. It is the youth of the world only who can help bring about the new world order and the vision of a new humanity." (4)

Reproductive glands & benefits of mind

Here Baba guides us how the reproductive glands are linked with high qualities of mind and proper conduct. In this first quote Baba tells us how restraint leads to greater intelligence as the lymph is best utilised.

Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology states, "If the testes function properly and if there is no hindrance from the lymphatic glands, intelligence will develop. Without the testes, the solar plexus will not be developed and intelligence will decrease." (6)

In this below teaching Baba reveals how the reproductive glands promote clear thinking - so restraint is a must, otherwise that faculty of mind will not develop.

Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology states, "If the testes are properly-active and there is the proper secretion of hormones, a youth develops the spirit of rationality." (7)

In this next teaching Baba guides us how the right use of those glands brings a sense of responsibility.

Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology states, "If the secretion of the testes glands is normal, a sense of dutifulness will be created in the mind." (8)

Finally, those glands are highly related with spiritual thirst and creating a link with the Supreme.

Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology states, "If there is proper-secretion, a youth acquires the power to transform that longing into universalism. In those of you who have a longing for Parama Purus'a [Supreme Consciousness], a proper-secretion took place in your hormones between the ages of fifteen and seventeen. At that stage the idea to become great comes into the mind." (9)

Reproductive glands & benefits of mind (cont)

If anyone wishes to become an ideal human being, they must be aware that their glandular system has to be maintained and used properly. This must be reinforced again and again to our youths. We will have to teach the point that the lymph is "food for the brain" and "food for the glands", and should not get senselessly converted into spermatoza and wasted.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology states, "In males the testes are the glands which convert lymph into semen. As soon as lymph is converted into semen, the nerves are affected and there is a corresponding change in one’s thoughts. It is the pituitary gland which tells the testes to convert lymph into semen [that is, testosterone and spermatic fluid]. When the production of lymph goes beyond the capacity of the body to utilize it, it is converted into semen and comes out of the body." (10)

Unfortunately, in today's society, the lower vrttis are encouraged by negative propaganda in which case many youths and young adults cannot develop the right qualities in life.

They will be respected.

Hot issue: castration & sex crime

Across the globe - in various states and countries - government officials are offering voluntary (and involuntary) castration to those incarcerated as part of their sex crime sentencing and / or in exchange for their early release from prison. For the state officials this is a way to increase the sex crime punishment and relieve pressure from and cut costs on the overcrowded and extremely expensive jail system; and for offenders it can be a way to regain their freedom sooner without having to worry about being tempted to commit a similar crime.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

To some then, this looks like a win-win situation. The state gets what they want and the offender gets what he wants. Toward this end, there are two basic pathways being pursued by the state to control the procreative glands: 1) chemical castration and 2) surgical castration.

While there is more to know about this topic, the key point we need to be aware of is that these officials and law-makers do not realise that by castrating someone they are not just taking away his procreative ability, but they are disturbing the entire mental equilibrium of that person. Because every gland, the male reproductive glands included, affects the mind. So in Ananda Marga, this is not something we advocate.

Ananda Marga Yoga Psychology states, “Using birth control methods which deform the bodies of men and women or which destroy their reproductive capacity forever, cannot be supported, because in such cases a severe mental reaction may appear in them at any moment.” (11)

Non-margii PS

Prabhat Samgiita Intro: This following Prabhat Samgiita composition is for non-margiis. So we Ananda Margiis should learn these types of songs so that we can present and teach them. The Ista of Ananda Margiis is neither Krsna nor Shiva. So committed and dedicated Ananda Margiis know that using these Krsna / Shiva Prabhat Samgiita compositions for their own personal, spiritual practices is very detrimental and harmful. About Prabhat Samgiita

"Káj kare jete esechi dharáte,, kuruks'etra ei dhará.." (Prabhat Samgiita #1307)

Purport:

O’ Lord Krsna, I have come in this world to do work and serve You; this world is kuruks'etra. With Your compassion I have come here to engage in positive engagements and serve humanity. Remaining idle and inert, and wasting time in lethargy is not the flow of life. This is not how human beings should live. O' Krsna, You have blessed me with the energy and motivation to involve in constructive projects - to do something for the great cause of dharma.

O’ Lord Krsna, thousands years ago whatever You did with Your own hand with sudarshana cakra and Your bow and arrow during the Mahabharata war was for the establishment of bhagavata dharma. That immortal tale and everlasting story remains active in our collective psyche, in everyone's memory and mental plate.

Lord, all are moving forward by Your divine pull; there is no scope for anyone to pause or stop. No one can lag behind; all are going onwards. Lord Krsna, what a grand story of the Mahabharat which You led and took place on the Kuruksetra.

That Mahabharata story, which was beautifully written by the great sage Dvaepa'yan, is filled with song. People come into the world to do great things. This world is kuruks'etra….

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #1307:

[1] Kuruks'etra: The meaning of dharmaks'etra is the field of dharma, or one's human existence; whereas, kuruks'etra has two meanings. The first meaning is the grand idea that everyone has come into this world to so some work. Because this world is known as kuruks'etra. And the second meaning of Kuruks'etra refers to the geographical place Kuruks'etra (literally "field of action") which is that area of land near Delhi in the state of Haryana where the Mahabharta battle was fought around 3500 years ago

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The real name of this world is kuruks'etra, because it is always telling you Kuru, kuru, kuru - 'Go on working and working and working. Don't sit idle. Don't let your existence fall under a curse due to your indolence. Move towards success through your works.' So the real name of that ks'etra [field] which constantly advises you in this way is kuruks'etra. Kuruks´etra thus stands for the manifested world around us, the sam'sa'ra, where you exist in your physical body, dharmaks'etra." (1)

[2] Cakra: This term has a variety of meanings and in this song it is referred to sudarshana cakra as one of the weapons of Lord Krsna. Because during the Mahabharat battle, there were times when Lord Krsna unveiled His cakra.

The historic scene in the Mahabharat where the people thought Lord Krsna covered the sun with His sudarshana cakra so that Arjuna could fufill his great vow of slaying the immoral Jayadrath.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "You know what happened at the time of Jayadratha’s death. Arjuna, as per his vow, was supposed to go to the funeral pyre immediately after sunset in order to keep his promise. Suddenly people observed that the sun was no longer in the sky and that it had become dark all around. Everyone thought that the sun had already set. Those who were devotees, not philosophers, commented that Lord Krśńa had covered the sun with His Sudarshana Cakra [His special discus]. Now you can imagine that it is impossible to cover the sun with a discus. Is it possible to cover the sun with a dinner plate? When you observe a dinner plate close up, it seems to be about this large. But if you could see the sun close up, how big it would appear! If the dinner plate were placed near the sun, it would be a mere speck. No, the discus could never cover the sun! Though the devotees claim that it did, I take this as a mere story. But then the question arises how the sun was in fact covered. The answer is that Lord Krśńa willed it so. He had mastery over prakámya siddhi, one of the eight occult powers. He willed the sun to be covered by clouds, and so it happened. The sun was covered by clouds, and people thought that the sun had gone down." (2)

[3] Dvaepa'yan: This is another name for the great poet Vedavyasa Deva who recorded the Mahabharat in written form.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Krs'n'advaepa'yan'a Vya'sa is renowned as Vedavya'sa for having divided the Vedas into three main portions (Rk, Yajuh, and Atharva)...He was born in a fisherman's family (Kaevarta [a fishing caste]) on a blackish island that rose out of the waters of the confluence of the Ganges and the Yamuna at Prayag, and for this reason the people gave him the name Krs'n'advaepa'yan'a. This Krs'n'advaepa'yan'a or Vedavya'sa was the composer of the Mahabharata. The Mahabharata was composed long, long, long after the Vedas, but nonetheless it is undoubtedly more than three thousand years old." (3)

Do you know these two codes from Caryacarya

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “The habit of making wagers is extremely undesirable. You must avoid lotteries and gambling." (1)

"Prerequisites for shásti:
a) Before punishing a person you should consider whether you love him/her or not. You do not have the moral right to punish one whom you do not love.
b) Punishment should be meted out to reform and not to cause suffering.
c) The quantum of punishment must not exceed the quantum of love.
d) If some innocent person is pained by any of your actions, then without considering whether he/she is your superior or inferior, you should sincerely seek his/her forgiveness; this will only enhance your prestige." (2)

What are the six tastes

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “The six tastes are: tikta – neem (bitter); kat’u – chilli (hot and spicy); kas’ava – plantain (alkaline); lavan’a (salty); amala (acidic); and madhu (sweet).” (1)

Note: Not only are there six tastes in the human palate but those type of foods should be taken in a distinct order. Bitter taken in the beginning and sweet in the end.

Importance of fresh air & walking

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, "Pure, fresh air has the power to cure diseases. It is advisable to breathe in as fully as possible, because when we do so, the air gets an opportunity to penetrate the lungs completely. It is better to take a walk in the fresh air than to ride a vehicle. If the body does not work up a sufficient sweat, then you should know that you have not taken the air properly." (1)

Everyone is aware that Baba is teaching us to be vigilant about walking every morning and evening, invariably.
