Blunder in AV - 22 book + 3 more

Baba

Blunder in AV - 22 book

Namaskar,

Here is yet another distortion to Baba's sacred discourses. Everyone can easily see for themselves how the whole topic got turned upside-down.

Baba's teaching: karma is not as meaningless as jinana

On 18, Feb, 1984 in Agra, at His evening general darshan, Baba clearly has given this expressed teaching: 'In the realm of spirituality, karma is not as meaningless as jinan'.

And here below is the exact Hindi which Baba spoke that day.

"Dharmic jagat, adhyatmik jagat men jinan kii kiimat jitini, kam he. Karma kii kiimat utani kam na'hi hai." (18 Feb '84, Agra, EGD)

The literal meaning of His above teachings is: In the realm of spirituality, karma is not as meaningless as jinana. And the basic idea is that on the spiritual path, after bhakti, karma is more valuable than jinana. That is the essence of His guideline.

Look what the publishers did

Now take a look at what certain editors and publishers did. Instead of putting forth Baba's original teaching in print, they twisted it in their own way.

Here below is what those in charge printed in the Ananda Vacanamrtam book.

"Jinan kii jitini dharmic, adhyatmik jagat men kiimat hai,
usase kam kiimat karma kii na'hi hai." (AV-22, '94 Edn (H), p.69)

And the meaning of what they wrote is: In the realm of spirituality, karma is not less valuable than jinana.

By reading the above it is evident that here those editors are putting forth their own tainted idea that karma and jinana are of the same standard.

A quick evaluation

By a quick evaluation then, it is quite apparent that what the publishers put in print is totally different from what Baba has spoken.

Because on that day Baba has clearly told that 'karma is not as meaningless as jinan'. That means that He is placing karma above jinana. And indeed in countless discourses Baba has given this same teaching. He always says that bhakti is the top, karma is second best, and jinana is the worst. That is His standard way of evaluating the various paths. In countless discourses and books, Baba has given this guideline. And indeed what Baba has spoken on that day, 18 Feb '84, is 100% consistent with this.

But in their own way, certain editors saw fit to change this. So they switched the wording to state that the path of karma and the path of jinan are equals, i.e. of the same value. This is the wrong way they presented Guru’s teaching.

Yet in that very same discourse Baba is telling that sadhana is also a type of karma. All this goes to show that Baba is placing a strong emphasis on the utility and value of karma, and He is clearly placing it above the path of jinana.

But it seems certain publishers either did not like hearing this or did not understand it; so they changed it. Not only did they put forth the wrong teaching, but this was all done in Sadguru Baba’s name. And that gives the false notion that Baba's teachings are inconsistent, as if sometimes He tells that karma is higher than jinana, and other times not. This is the crude effect of what those publishers did.

What is overall effect

Terrible harm has been done. Because the publishers set it up in such a way that Baba has contradicted Himself. Because when new margiis or members of the general public see Baba's words in print they will be given two contradictory messages. One telling that karma is higher than jinana, and another telling that karma and jinana are the same.

But we know that in cent per cent of the cases, Baba places karma a step above jinana. This is His regular teaching. And on that day on 18 Feb 1984, Baba was telling the exact same thing: That karma is above jinana.

Conclusion

When such publishers are erroneously printing Baba's original teachings, then we have to be very careful. Our first and foremost duty is to ensure that all the gross errors and small mistakes committed by those editors get perfectly repaired. This is our chief duty, otherwise we will be passing down a tainted legacy to the future humanity. He has given us all the teaching of spirituality. And those we must keep pristine forever and ever.

In Him,
Rama seva

Sadly, certain publishers could not accept that jinana has little or no value in the spiritual realm. It seems they could not digest this fact.

Pratapaditya

The main editor / translator of the Hindi edition of AV-22 is none other than Pratapaditya ji of Gorakhpur. And it is well known that Pratapadityaji could never tolerate anything being said against jinana; because he himself was of that nature. So when given the opportunity he changed those words to suit his own liking. In that way the wrong things just get printed. We should work together to prevent such misdeeds from happening in future and fix those errors committed in the past.

By Your presence everything has become blissful

“Ke go ele sudhá jhará...” (Prabhat Samgiita #1157)

Who are You who came showering spiritual nectar. My Sudha' Jhara, due to Your august presence everything has become blissful. By removing all the darkness of ignorance, dogma, mean-mindedness, and groupism, You have made this earth refulgent and wiped away all the filth of sin from this world and filled it with neo-humanism.

My Parama Purusa, I came to know You ages and ages ago - who knows when - it was Your grace. In that liila’, with spiritual flashes of a new illumination, today, You released the sentient flow of endless fountain streams.

Baba, please come into my life, into the depths of my mind - secretly, in Your attractive, charming Mohan form. Madhura, You are the embodiment of sweetness. Kindly satisfy my hope, satiate my heart, and grant me the highest bhakti.

My Bandhu, I surrender at Your lotus feet...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #1157:

[1] Sudha' Jhara': This is one of the names of Parama Purusa which describes one of His infinite attributions: The Entity that showers nectar.

[2] Second Stanza, First Line: Here the exact date, hour, minute, and second of the introduction to Parama Purusa is not known to the bhakta. Only the he knows that it was a long time ago that he first came in contact with that supreme Entity. Yet all along that Entity was aware about bhakta.

[3] Flashes (jhilike): To progress along the path of spirituality, the grace of Parama Purusa is needed, but not need a full load or large amount if grace, just a wee-bit of grace is enough. If He graces fully then human beings will become overloaded, i.e. flooded. It is just like if your crops are very dry and needs water, then just a small amount is enough; if those crops become flooded in 2ft or 10ft of water, they will not be able to survive. Similarly, in human life, just a wee-bit of grace is sufficient. Human beings cannot tolerate more.

[4] Second Stanza, Second line: This line depicts how the sadhaka's relation with Parama Purusa has deepened to a new degree of closeness and intimacy. Earlier the relation was normal and today it became extremely powerful and devotional. Parama Purusa showered enormous spiritual waves of intimacy and strong yearning of bhakti.

[5] Madhura: Here the bhakta is addressing Parama Purusa as: O' most loving One. Parama Purusa has infinite attributions and this name for Him depicts His quality of overflowing with sweetness and love.

To understand more deeply about the meaning of madhura, one should be familiar with madhura bhava, i.e. that intimate relation between bhakta and the Lord. This is an extremely close and intimate loving relation, just like the great bhaktas Miira and Radha had with Lord Krsna. All this Baba has explained beautifully in His book, Namami Krsnasundaram. This type of very intimate relation is called madhura bhava. The Entity who is most loving is addressed as Madhura and is also madhu bhara, i.e. filled with sweetness and charm. That is why He is most loving.

Human limitations

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “In this visible world you receive tanmátras in accordance with your strength and ability. When the tanmátric vibration is more powerful than your strength or capacity, you are unable to receive it. Similarly, when the vibrational momentum is more slow and slack than your power of perception, you cannot receive it either. If people whisper in a soft voice, you cannot hear them – there you become deaf. Then again, if there is a very loud noise somewhere nearby, you cannot hear that either, for your hearing has been stunned – here too you are deaf. Your system may easily endure petty mental afflictions and in that case you do not cry before people. Then when you are filled with extreme grief you become so dazed and bewildered that in this case, too, you do not cry before people. You have seen a child suddenly stops crying in the midst of intense suffering. We call it “choked in crying”, for the child is unable to endure the violent sorrowful vibrations. You can tolerate a small pain with a smiling face and people cannot detect your hurt. An intense pain stuns you into unconsciousness and then, too, people are not aware of it. You are able to utter pathetic cries of “Ah” and “Oh” only in the intervening state to embellish your plight." (1)

Note: In His above teaching, Baba is guiding us how the range of human perception is very limited. If a vibration is very subtle then we cannot detect it, such as a very quiet noise. And if the vibration is very crude and powerful, such as a temperature of 170 degrees Celsius, then we cannot tolerate it and we will die. In the true sense, the scope of the vibrations which human beings can manage is of a very narrow scope.

There are so many things going on around us; there are all kinds of vibrations that we are completely unaware of. Some things we can detect with scientific instruments but there are countless subtle things going on around that we have no clue about. The irony is that even when sitting in an isolated room a person thinks that, “Nothing is here other than me.” When in truth, so many phenomena are going on all around, wherever you are. Those are extremely subtle vibrations which you can neither see nor hear. That is why it is said that human capacity is very negligible.
