Bad & good news: current affairs

Baba

Bad & good news: current affairs

Namaskar,

Over the last few days in India, various newspapers printed false accusations about AMPS. Very quickly, those same newspapers retracted their stories, begged apology, and issued corrections.

Here is an overview of what transpired:

  1. Recently, one Indian pseudo guru, so-called guru, was incarcerated for ten years on a rape case. In retaliation against this judicial decision, the guru's supporters became violent.
  2. After the announcement of the judicial verdict, the supporters of that pseudo Indian guru engaged in violent action, arson, destruction, chaos, and looting. They destroyed and torched so many vehicles, and burned shops and houses. They even resorted to killing. All in all they created a situation of veritable mayhem. In this process, more than three dozen people were killed, and hundreds more injured. The local police could not control the situation, so the military had to be deployed.
  3. In reviewing the situation, many newspapers printed lengthy articles in which they cited the violent history of various religious groups. In that connection, the newspapers falsely implicated AMPS also.
  4. Seeing the false news printed against AMPS, margiis across the globe protested, wrote letters, and called publishers to express their discontent and outrage at the false allegations. After receiving all these communications, the newspaper editors accepted their mistakes and printed the corrections in their errata pages.
  5. Here below are a few of the newspaper cuttings related with this news. Section one below contains scans of the corrections which newspapers printed after hearing from outraged margiis. And section two is the entire news which these same newspapers had printed in the initial phase.

Conclusion

Good people are doing good things, but antisocial elements try to blame righteous people unnecessarily. That is what happened here. Please carefully go through the articles to properly to understand what has transpired, as this is not the last time such events will occur. In the future also, we are sure to see AMPS get falsely implicated. Those against Ananda Marga philosophy will blame us for wrongs we have not done. So we must always be alert. Where there is dharma, there is victory.

Ananda Vanii states, “History bears testimony that whenever a person states the absolute truth in any sphere of life, whether it be spiritual, social, economic or otherwise; sought clarification of doubts or protested against injustice and wrongs, the evil forces forthwith plotted against the person, administered poison, slandered and assaulted that person with rage, misused authority and mercilessly dealt blow after blow; but the blows boomeranged and ultimately the evil forces were annihilated by those very blows. Remember, by an unalterable decree of history, the evil forces are destined to meet their final doom.” (Ananda Vanii #41)

Namaskar.
In Him,
Gurmiit Singh

Section one scans: Corrections

Here first they printed an article that shows how Shrii Shrii Anandamurti was falsely charged and that all said accusations against Ananda Marga were bogus.

Here is a front page article from 1978 showing how the Patna High Court acquitted Margam Guru of all charges.

In the following scan, the newspaper did a follow-up story and they intentionally did not mention or associate AMPS with this negative affair. This demonstrates they retracted their earlier story.

In this next scan, the newspaper offered corrections for launching unjust accusations against AMPS, in Hindi.

Here below is the chief example how various newspapers published false allegations against AMPS.

Why no lottery + 4 more

Baba

Why no lottery

Namskar,

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "The habit of making wagers is extremely undesirable. You must avoid lotteries and gambling." (1)

Internet scams: telling users that they won the lottery but first they must pay a particular fee or charge in order to collect their winnings. Dominated by greed, people fall prey to the scam.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

- Another scam related with lotteries is that there are fake agencies that proclaim to have a system to pick the winning number for you. Here again, due to greed, people fall prey to this.

- Those who are struggling economically often gamble away money that should have been used to buy food and clothing for the family, or pay rent etc. So state-supported gambling and lotteries often increase the financial woes of economically-poor families.

- Gambling also gives way to alcohol and drug abuse.

- In societies where gambling is legal and lotteries are in vogue, people tend to indulge in get-rich-quick scams and rely less on working hard and proper money management.

- The dollar amount spent by the government to help poor families who lost money in lotteries and gambling is more than the income the state received from gaming (gambling and lotteries).

- All in all, there are many social ills and woes associated with lotteries: Drugs, poverty, alcoholism, lethargy, financial debt, etc. There are two addendums to this posting that highlight the social ills related with lotteries and gambling - see links section below.

Treatment

Here is the way overcome the negative tendencies of mind related with the sadripus, or six internal enemies, like greed:

(1) Do not encourage avarice; do not let the mind indulge in that way. About this one must be strict - do not loosen the reins. These six enemies like greed should be controlled, harnessed, and not allowed to run free.

(2) One cannot treat is by external pressure or by force, otherwise the person will react negatively. For instance, if laws are put in place that do not allow people to have money, then one of two things will result. Those greedy for money will either get it secretly, or if they are truly suppressed by that law then some other negative tendency of mind will crop up, like  indulgence, anger etc. So this problem of greed must be addressed from within.

(3) One should channelise or goad the mind in a positive direction. That greedy attraction for money should be directed toward artistic endeavours or social service projects etc. By goading the mind away from greed and toward a productive engagement, then little by little one will gain control over that propensity of greed.

(4) Sadhana and related psycho-spiritual practices are the excellent ways to free the mind from greed.

Ananda Marga Philosophy says, "Those who are fascinated or tempted by an object can gradually rid themselves of the mental pollution arising from their selfish motives by adopting just the reverse course. Those who are very greedy for money should form the habit of charity and serve humanity through that practice." (2)

Baba has given us all - do's and don'ts - building a great human society. When He has told us not to engage in lotteries then we should pay heed to His order.

Baba says, "The habit of making wagers is extremely undesirable. You must avoid lotteries and gambling." (3)

Greed is part of avida maya, which is in the mind.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "A temptation such as lobha (avarice) is a principle of avidyámáyá. It can only be overcome by reducing the influence of avidyámáyá through intuitional practice (sádhaná). One will never be able to keep away from temptation without overcoming the influence of avidyámáyá. This is possible only through progress in intuitional practice." (4)
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "A person who is greedy for money becomes totally preoccupied with the thought of making money; ...." (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "The mind becomes so infatuated with its crude objects that ultimately it becomes converted into matter. It follows the path of negative pratisaincara." (6)

Sadguru says, "When the tendency towards acquisition in the physical world is extremely strong, people's tendency to assimilate spiritual or intellectual things is usually noticeably weaker. In that condition, their thirst for the material world becomes very intense." (7)

Ananda Marga social code states, “The habit of making wagers is extremely undesirable. You must avoid lotteries and gambling.” (8)

The overall idea is that when people look for material gain but do not achieve and instead lose what they have - as happens with those who gamble and play the lottery - then they become mentally disturbed: Frustrated, angry and depressed. In that imbalanced state of mind, they turn to all kinds of vices (tobacco, alcohol, drug, crime, etc) as a means of coping with their gambling problem.

Namaskar,
at His lotus feet,
Satyadeva
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

What is luck, fate

Some think that those who win the jackpot got that money out of nowhere. But that is not the case. There is no such thing as luck in this universe - everything is an incident. If anyone wins money by gambling or in the lottery, it is not due to luck but rather they are reaping their old samskaras. If they did not win the lottery, they would have received that same amount of money some other ways, in smaller amounts over time. So those who think that they got this money by luck or out of nowhere are incorrect. Past samskaras are the cause. That is Baba's teaching and this is how it goes.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Some persons wear different stones such as blue sapphires which change the mode of their experiencing the reactions. It is possible that by this one may get a fortune by winning a prize in a lottery or may get a promotion in one's employment. This makes people believe that all this has happened due to grahashánti, but it is actually not so. Fate, or the quantum of experiencing the consequences of one's actions, can neither be changed nor evaded. It was explained earlier that one's actions that give happiness to others will beget happiness to oneself to the same extent in mental measure. This quantum of experiencing happiness and pleasure cannot be changed. Only the time required for experiencing it can be increased or decreased. Taking again the example of the deposit of 150 rupees, we see that the money intended to be spent in a month at the rate of five rupees a day, can be spent in one day by shortening the period of expenditure and leaving nothing for the remaining twenty-nine days of the month. The change in fate brought about by grahashánti is similar to this. For instance, the one thousand rupees that one gets as a prize in a lottery due to the influence of the blue sapphire, is the person's own money scheduled to be received by him or her in small instalments over a long period of time. This money is received in one instalment, leaving no balance for the rest of the instalments. Yet getting a huge amount at once makes one believe that grahashánti, or the wearing of a blue sapphire, has changed one's fate." (9)

~ In-depth study ~

Greed will manifest itself through anger

Ananda Marga philosophy, “An intelligent or wise person should keep the Ripus under control and resist the Pashas. The ancient saints and sages did not prescribe any method for the resistance of the Ripus because the Ripus should be regulated. If a Ripu is resisted or suppressed, then the suppressed Ripus finds expression through another Ripu. Suppose in a person the instinct of greed is very strong. He is compelled to keep this instinct under control, under pressure of poverty. If a person who habitually takes bribes is found not taking bribes due to the enforcement department, then that suppressed instinct of greed will manifest itself through anger or any other Ripu. That is, he will burst into violent anger.” (10)

Ananda Marga philosophy, “So, the psychological approach to the Ripus is to keep them under control and not allow them under any circumstances to go against a recognized code of social conduct. Some persons may be very greedy for food. It is just possible that they may die prematurely due to over-eating or indulging in prohibited foods. Intelligent people will keep the instinct of greed under control in such a way that they avoid getting any disease. Take the case of an alcoholic. Under the spell of liquor people become helpless victims to their habit. If their channelize their addiction into the ardent love of music, painting or any of the fine arts, the instinct of addiction will be gratified to some extent, and they will prevent any further harm to themselves.” (11)

Know your internal enemies

As Baba explains, within the human mind there is avidya maya which is composed of two aspects: sadripus (6 internal enemies) , and astapashas (8 external fetters). The sadripus come from within and the astapashas are imposed by society.

Anger is one of the sadripus, which come from within. A baby does have anger as that is an in-born quality. This shows how the astapashas are imposed by society, whereas the sadripus are part of one's inherent mental make-up.

In total there are six internal enemies or sadripus: (1) kama (worldly lust); (2) krodha (anger); (3) lobha (avarice / greed); (4) mada (vanity; (5) moha (blind attachment); (6) matsarya (envy).

Difference of east and west

Here is one interesting side point as this is also related with the sadripus. One of the ripus is mada, meaning pride. In the eastern traditions, pride is not encouraged because how can one think about Parama Purusa if one has pride about oneself. Yet in the west, pride is looked upon as a very positive attribution. People are encouraged to be proud of what they have done. This runs directly contrary to the spiritual approach of tantra.

"Tumi eso ámár ghare kripá kare, vedii sájáyechi tomár tare ..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0589)

Note: Note: Only those bhaktas who feel a devotional vibration in their heart can understand this song in the depths of their core.)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, please come to my mental abode. I have decorated a seat for You in my Guru cakra. O’ Ever-Merciful Entity, in the hope of Your auspicious arrival, I have prepared a sweet, fragrant garland of malati flowers, lit the lamp of bhakti of clarified butter, and decorated it on candelabra for You.

Baba, my heart is saturated with the fragrance of psychic sandalwood, and filled it with the nectar of colourful flowers. I am meditating and anticipating Your loving arrival. My ears are ready and waiting with expectation for the sound of Your soft footsteps.

O' Parama Purusa, my mind is not in my control; with the flow of this sweet breeze it is rushing towards You. Everything is vibrating in Your prema. Baba, O’ Bliss Personified Entity, please come and reside in my heart in Your most affectionate way...

Prout solution of desertification + 4 more

Baba

Prout solution of desertification

Namaskar,

There is a limited supply of underground water. Around the globe, people are using underground water for drinking and irrigation by using pumps etc. Using underground water for drinking is ok, but it is extremely harmful to use underground water for irrigation purposes.

Due to a lack of proper knowledge, serious problems are cropping up around the globe. Our duty is to follow Baba’s guidelines and educate others. To overlook the problem is cataclysmic.

Deep well irrigation creates desert

Because of deep well irrigation, the water table is dropping. Plants and trees become dry and brittle. Extreme dryness invites fires. The vegetation gets destroyed. Without trees, there is no more rain. This brings drought which then leads to starvation, and ultimately death.

This is the eventual outcome wherever groundwater irrigation is in vogue.

So then what is the answer? How to irrigate? Rain water should be collected in ponds and reservoirs and used locally. That will solve the problem and offer an environmentally sound, renewable resource for our water needs, most critically, irrigation.

Prout philosophy states: ”Question – What are the drawbacks of well irrigation?”

“Answer – Well irrigation causes the level of the water table to go down until the subterranean flow of water eventually dries up. Shortages of water due to well irrigation are not easily perceptible.” (1)

And eventually becomes infertile

Prout philosophy states:
"The negative effects of well irrigation include the following:”

“(1) All neighbouring shallow wells dry up creating the problem of the lack of drinking water.”

“(2) Trees, orchards and large plants don’t get sufficient water so they may wither and die. Green countryside will become a desert after 30 to 45 years of intensive well irrigation.”

“(3) In some deep tube wells elements or minerals which are harmful to the soil get mixed with the water, causing salinity, for example. As a result the land becomes unfit for cultivation and eventually becomes infertile.”

“(4) When the flow of well-water stops, irrigation tanks supplied by these wells also dry up.”

“Thus, well irrigation should be used only as a temporary measure because of the devastating effects it can have on the surrounding environment. Alternative methods of irrigation are river irrigation, irrigation from reservoirs, shift irrigation and lift irrigation.” (2)

When all the trees of an area are chopped down, then rain clouds stop forming in that area. With the reduction and ultimately elimination of rain, the whole area turns into a desert. That is what has happened in southern Rajasthan (India).

Another pathway towards desertification occurs when deep well irrigation is not banned. Because these deep wells lower the level of the water table. In turn, trees suffer from a lack of water and begin to die. As the trees are wiped out, less rain clouds are drawn to the region. This vicious cycle escalates: Less rain -> deeper and deeper wells are dug -> due to lack of rain dust forms and ultimately the entire region becomes a desert. Overall deep well irrigation also causes the soil to be more saline (salty).

If any green fertile region does not get any rain for several years then it will become a desert.

Conclusion

This is not well known science - deep well irrigation creates so many problems. It ruins the soil, region, and environment, and good land becomes a desert. That is why Prout policy is that well irrigation should be completely banned and rain water should be collected for agricultural purpose.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Manas Ranjan

California: well failures almost quadruple since 2014

~ Courtesy of the New Yorker ~
Peter Gleick, the chief scientist at the Oakland-based Pacific Institute, told me that one year of heavy precipitation, even a record-breaking one, will not undo the most serious repercussion of the drought: a severe deficit of groundwater. For years, Central Valley farmers have drawn liberally from the region’s aquifers to compensate for reduced supplies from canals and aqueducts. When a large enough volume of groundwater is pumped away, the land can slump like a punctured air mattress. Areas along the valley’s western edge have sunk by nearly thirty feet since the nineteen-twenties, and in some places the local infrastructure—roads, bridges, even the California Aqueduct itself—is at risk. Farmers and municipalities have responded by digging deeper wells, but such measures seem to be prolonging the inevitable. In Tulare County, south of Fresno, where groundwater overdraft has been particularly severe, the number of reported well failures has continued to climb, almost quadrupling since 2014, in spite of last year’s above-average precipitation and this year’s deluge. (Courtesy of The New Yorker)

In the above photo, see the desertification that has taken place. Twenty years ago this whole area was a lush, highly vegetated region and and now it turning fast into a desert.

Way to gauge true sadhaka

True sadhakas serve others thinking it is their duty to serve one and all; and in return they do not want anything. Verily they do not have even have a remote desire for anything in return. They think those whom they are serving are Narayana God Himself. In contrast, fake sadhakas are opposite. You might have seen in various discussions and gatherings and how such persons come before all and tell, “I have done this and I have done that.” From others they mentally harbour great appreciation and respect for their so-called service. So these are fakes. To make it more clear please read Baba’s following teaching.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Bear in mind that you have a duty towards others, but that no one has any duty towards you. Everyone’s individual duty is fixed. Only one who move forward with this as his or her only thought can do proper service. Otherwise the thought may remain in the mind of the one doing service that I have done such and such work for that person, so that person ought to do such and such for me. The thought must remain in the mind of the one doing service that I have a duty towards others but no one has any duty towards me.” (1)

Note: Here sadhaka means everyone who is doing sadhana - whether they be a margii or Wt, everyone from PP Dada to a newly initiated margii.

About the transitional phase

“Human history today has reached such a transitional phase that universal humanity, forgetting all spatial, temporal and personal differences, shall have to move, hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder towards the new dawn with rapid steps. Humanity must respond to this call. With the reddish glow of the dawn, the collective body, mind and soul will be radiant with joy. And that alone will be the real progress of universal humanity, the firm establishment of unified humanism.” (Ananda Vanii #61)

Note: The above is one of Baba’s original Ananda Vaniis. These original and true Ananda Vaniis are unique, eternal guidelines that stand as complete discourses in and of themselves. They are unlike Fake Ananda Vaniis which are fabricated by most of the groups - H, B etc.

Making child namby-pamby

Baba

Making child namby-pamby

Namaskar,

We see fear vrtti imposed on the minds of our youths through various festivals as well as through the Hollywood movies, scary stories, television programs, video games, Disney's Ghost House, and haunted houses etc.

Here we should understand that the imposition of fear also comes directly from family members; and this can haunt a child their entire life.

What people do not realise is that when they impose a fear complex on a child, then they are multiplying the fear vrtti itself.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The human propensities that operate in the mundane sphere are five in number: áhár [food], nidrá [sleep], bhaya [fear], maethuna [begetting progeny] and dharma sádhaná [spiritual practice].... The peculiar nature of these five propensities is this: if they are given indulgence, they increase." (1)

Thus, by encouraging fear in the young child, then that very fear vrtti gets stimulated and can consume a child's entire existence. It will crop up in all kinds of ways, in countless situations. Because already on a regular basis the child is disciplined via the imposition of a fear complex. As that complex gets reinforced again and again, it takes up permanent residence in the mind of the child - and grows. It erodes the child's existence in all aspect of life.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The small babe did not want to drink the milk. So in order to get the baby to drink the milk, the family members said, "Look, a “ghost” is on the palm tree - it will come and get you if you do not drink your milk." So you drank the milk out of fear of being caught by the "ghost." After many years, when you were no longer two, but became twenty-two years of age, that mental ghost still existed in your mind. From time to time in your dreams you will still see that "ghost." In consequence, while remaining in a lonely place your heart will become startled and frozen due to fear of that "ghost." (2)

The child fearfully thinks, "I can't do that", "If I turn my back I will be attacked”, "Ghosts will get me", "I will be swallowed up in the darkness", "Making a class presentation is too scary", "I cannot go to that job interview", etc etc. The child will literally be stricken with fear in all kinds of situations - from the fear of the dark to the fear of the unknown.

It is just like if a banyan tree is allowed to grow inside the courtyard of a mansion, then one day that tree will become so huge it will destroy the mansion itself. Same is the case with harmful vrttis like fear. If encouraged and given scope to grow, they will devour the entire human personality.

The end result is that instead of raising a fearless child that is ready to stand up to all kinds of difficulties, one raises a coward that is scared - nay terrified - in every aspect and encounter of life.

Curing those children

Here is the method for raising a healthy, brave child. We have to cure those children who are suffering from fear complexes. The best way is to read Baba's short stories. He has graciously written various so-called ghost stories where those ghosts are friendly and helpful. Sometimes the so-called ghost sweetly drapes a mosquito net over a sleeping person so that they will be more comfortable. Or the so-called ghost will bring a glass of water or offer shelter to a needy person. Basically, in so many of His stories, so-called ghosts and other creatures are quite friendly and philanthropic. This helps create a healthy mindset wherein one will not fall prey to dogmatic fears about so-called ghosts. Today's filmmakers and story writers should also follow this path. This is a method for curing those children suffering from fear complexes.

Self created imaginary ghost

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "You are the witnessing entity, you are the seer of the ghost, and a certain compartment of your mind went outside as an external projection and took the form of the ghost, that is, the very structure of the ghost is ectoplasmic in nature and that ectoplasm came from your source. You are the creator of that ghost. Actually there is no ghost. But you will see many a respectable man who will say, “Yes, I have seen it! Yes, I have seen it!” He is not incorrect in saying this. He saw it, but the ghost was of his creation. It was an outer or external objective reflection, or external objective projection, or external positive hallucination." (3)

Physical fear vs. psychic fear

The fear that grips animals is physical fear, not psychic fear. They do not suffer from nightmares or hallucinations, nor are they fearful about what will happen tomorrow etc. They are fearful for their life when confronted by predators etc. That is their fear.

Humans also have fears as survival instincts. When confronted physically dangerous situations, they think "I am too scared to jump off of this bridge"; "I am scared and do not want to grab the snake; "I am too scared to walk into the fire." These types of physical fears are inborn and related with our very existence - our very survival. Such as if an elephant is running towards you then you will run away to save your life.

But, unlike animals, humans also suffer from a multitude of psychic fears that are imposed. These fears do not protect one's existence but rather hinder one's progress. That is why imposed fears are a bondage as they shackle the psyche. Such fears include the fear of ghosts, goblins, fear of the future, fear of losing friends, fear of failure etc. People suffer from so many psychic fears that are imposed. And that is what this entire letter is about.

Solution: creating a fearless child

Baba has graciously given us pathways for creating and cultivating a fearless mindset. We must not pollute the minds of children by injecting fear sentiments.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "It is important that lullabies should convey the inspiration to develop heroism and knowledge, but there should be no frightening ideas in them." (4)

Thus our stories, films, festivals, disciplinary tactics, tales, holidays should be completely devoid of scary thoughts and images. Children should feel safe, secure, and loved - never burdened by any imposed or false fear.

Conclusion

We should completely refrain from introducing false fears into the mindset of our children. Thus we must re-evaluate occasions like Halloween and other fear-based festivals, and we must be vigilant not to let our children be adversely affected by the entertainment industry which makes billions of dollars by scaring children and turning them into cowards etc. Also of importance is that we must ensure that our children are never exposed to fear tactics as a form of discipline. With the gift of a safe and happy childhood, that young one will grow up and live a courageous and dharmic life.

After all, in Ananda Marga, we know that ghosts don't exist; they are not real. Only those who are dogmatic give credence to the existence of ghosts.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "One must move along the path of satya and one must have satya as one’s only desideratum. And this is the only path, this is the path of fearlessness; that is, there is no fear in it, nothing to be afraid of." (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Bhaya (fear), lajjá (shame), ghrńá (hatred), shauṋká (doubt), kula (high descent), shiila (complex of culture), mána (vanity) and jugupsá (backbiting) are the eight fetters...Aśt́apásha means the eight fetters. Anyone bound by fetters will lose his or her capacity of movement. In the creation we find the movement of human beings is from the crude to the subtle. That is, human beings have to move towards the subtle, but by their leaning towards the eight fetters such as lajjá, bhaya, and ghrńá, they get absorbed in crude things only and their progress towards the subtle is stopped.” (6)

Watch out before consuming

Baba

Watch out before consuming

Namaskar,

In our Ananda  Marga we aim to develop ourselves in all the three realms: Physical, psychic, & spiritual. All are aware of this common fact and every Ananda Margii takes proper care to follow it to the best of their ability. Now and again, we hear about the negative qualities of company food products, i.e. processed foods that come in a box and or "natural foods" injected with steroids and chemicals etc.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

This is a growing area of concern as more of the world's population becomes engrossed in the capitalistic lifestyle of running hither and thither all day and eating something pre-packaged from a box whenever hunger calls. Many, even in India, are losing the basic skill of how to cook and prepare fresh food.

For this reason, all the areas of our diet & food which we generally consider as sentient need careful evaluation. Due to the negative practices of capitalist companies that are only interested in their bottom-line, i.e. profits, one must be very cautious about consuming genetically impaired foods which are commonly sold in the market.

As a general guideline, we know that the more processed a food is, the greater the influence a company wields in altering the food. However even direct farm-grown products such as fruits and vegetables are likely to be treated with poisonous, and in some cases, structure-altering substances. All this is described below.

Dairy products and bovine growth hormones

First though, one area of great concern is with dairy products as today's cows are given all kinds of bovine hormones.

Dairy farmers use an array of chemicals and antibiotics on their cows. This is for two reasons: (1) the overcrowded and poor living conditions of the cows in the dairy cause frequent widespread disease among the herd (flock of cows); and (2) the farmers' desire to produce huge amounts of milk to get more money. As we know, the sole motive in capitalism is to earn more money. So cows are given bovine growth hormones to multiply their milk production, and to prevent food poisoning of old and dirty products. More about all this is written in Note 2 below.

So many chemicals given to cows

About twenty different antibiotics / poisons and over thirty other drugs / poisons and chemicals are legal for use on dairy cows in Western countries. And because of capitalistic influence in the society, those chemicals are approved by the democratic government of their respective country.

Baba addresses this in Prout: Capitalist exploitation occurs mostly in democratic countries. Democratic rule is the best suited for capitalist exploitation where capitalists can purchase the leaders with their money and get the laws passed in their favour of their business. This it the way political lobbying works: Those with the most money get their interests met.

Regarding cow's milk, these capitalists have passed regulations approving the use of more than 50 types of chemicals. The aim is to prevent food poisoning of old, rotten food. But these chemicals themselves are poisonous for human consumption.

Unfortunately, the general public is not aware about this fact. And on the milk packaging or container it is also not mentioned. They only write as - "government board approved". By seeing that deceptive and misleading label, nobody can understand what really is inside the milk. But if anybody has more interest, they will communicate with different labs and consumer advocacy groups and get the truth. And then they will have the same picture described above.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The only intention here is to write the fact and put forth the situation as it is, so interested sadhakas can follow their pramitahara / proper diet for their all-round development and final success.

Milk can be taken
only if produced humanely

Baba has given that milk is sentient and appropriate for human consumption as per Caryacarya, Yogic Treatments, and different discourses. But the type of milk which Baba is talking about is not widely available in this exploitative, capitalist era.

Generally, such type of milk only one can be gotten when one is living in a far remote place, and the cows are living in a natural condition in the open sky, grazing directly from the ground, and not eating chemicals - i.e. where those cows are leading a good and healthy life with proper care and hygiene. Then that type of milk is the real milk which Baba is talking about. And if anybody drinks that it will give a different - i.e. positive - effect.

But unfortunately, because of capitalistic influence, the milk and milk products that are mass-produced today are completely poisoned.

We should not forget that Baba has warned in Prout discourses that, essential commodities -- food etc -- must not be allowed to be produced by capitalist enterprises. Otherwise they will create a huge problem. And we can see these days, such a problem is now on our head. And so we should be careful.

Food affects you
physically, psychically & spiritually

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Physical food is not simply for the physical body. It has got its effect on the spiritual body. The cells of your physical body are created from the cells that you receive from your physical food, and your psychic body is also influenced by these cells. So while taking food, you should be very careful. You should always try to take sentient food." (1)

How companies irradiate your food

In recent years, companies in various countries have begun the practice of food irradiation. With the goal, to prevent food poisoning. By exposing food to high doses of radiation, companies can prevent or delay the growth of bacteria and mold. The doses of irradiation applied to food exceed that in chest x-rays by 10 million to 100 million times. And in many cases, the companies are not required to state on the package even, that the food has been irradiated. This is the under-handedness of capitalism. To protect the moneyed interests of large companies, they are allowed to irradiate the public food -- including fruits and vegetables -- under the table without informing people what they are eating. And irradiating food changes the basic structure of the food. It is completely negative.

Exploitation of cows in factory farms

Please read the following and consider how far this type of treatment is consistent with neo-humanism as well as what effect such products have on our human health.

The Dairy Industry: Cows Used For Their Milk

~ Courtesy of PETA ~
Cows produce milk for the same reason that humans do: to nourish their young. In order to force the animals to continue giving milk, factory farm operators typically impregnate them using artificial insemination every year. Calves are generally taken from their mothers within a day of being born—males are destined for veal crates or barren lots where they will be fattened for beef, and females are sentenced to the same fate as their mothers.

After their calves are taken from them, mother cows are hooked up, several times a day, to milking machines. Using genetic manipulation, powerful hormones, and intensive milking, factory farmers force cows to produce about 10 times as much milk as they would naturally.

Animals are often dosed with bovine growth hormone (BGH), which contributes to a painful inflammation of the udder known as "mastitis." (BGH is used widely in the U.S. but has been banned in Europe and Canada because of concerns over human health and animal welfare.) According to the industry's own figures, between 30 and 50 percent of dairy cows suffer from mastitis, an extremely painful condition.

A cow's natural lifespan is about 25 years, but cows used by the dairy industry are killed after only four or five years. An industry study reports that by the time they are killed, nearly 40 percent of dairy cows are lame because of the intensive confinement, the filth, and the strain of being almost constantly pregnant and giving milk. Dairy cows' bodies are turned into soup, companion animal food, or low-grade hamburger meat because their bodies are too "spent" to be used for anything else. (Courtesy of PETA)

Related teachings

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In order to have a balanced mind and to progress spiritually, human beings will have to pay attention to the qualities of the food they eat. The idea that “I will just do my sádhaná and eat any food, proper or improper” will not do." (2)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “It will not do to simply eat what you get or do what you desire. When you eat you must consider if it is sentient, mutative or static. While eating you must think carefully as to what influence it will have over your body and your mind. You are not a goat or a camel that you will eat whatever you get. You have to think when you act.” (3)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "As a result of eating sentient food and performing spiritual practices, the cells of the human body become sentient." (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "If cells are affected by food and water, and if the nature of the cells affects the nature of the human mind, obviously human beings should eat the correct diet, because food and mind are closely related to each other. Any food item, whether good or bad, must not be taken indiscriminately because it may lead to mental degeneration. Sincere spiritual aspirants must follow the dictum: Áhárashuddhao sattvashudhih [“A sentient diet produces a sentient body”]. Only food which is helpful in keeping the body and mind sentient should be eaten." (5)

Common misunderstanding + 2 more

Baba

Common misunderstanding

Namaskar,

Occult means that which is gotten via the practice of cult. Whereas Parama Purusa is the creator of occult powers. By definition, He inherently has them all. Every quality and attribution is already in His mind. So He does not need to do the practice of cult in order to have those qualities. Already they are a part of Him. For Parama Purusa Baba we cannot say He has "occult powers". Verily, it is wholly improper because those qualities are His inherent characteristics - not something acquired through the practice of cult.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com

Cannot say He has a lot of knowledge

In the same way, some wrongly proclaim that Baba has a lot of knowledge. But that is not appropriate. Baba has created this world; already everything is in His mind. The acquisition of knowledge does not apply to Parama Purusa. Knowledge is the internal subjectivization of external objectivity - i.e. understanding something about the external world.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “What is knowledge? Knowledge is subjectivization of external objectivity.” (1)

In the case of Parama Purusa, nothing is external to His mind. So there is no question of Him acquiring knowledge etc. For Him, we cannot say He has "a lot of knowledge." And in the same way, for Him we cannot say He has "occult powers".

Ananda Marga ideology says, "For living beings, omniscience is certainly a recognised occult power. That is right. But for the Supreme Entity it is not a recognised occult power; He does not get it as a result of cult...To know everything is His nature. That is why He is omniscient." (2)

So we cannot say He has "occult powers". Nor that He "uses occult powers". Rather we should say that "Baba graces". And indeed, microvita is nothing but His grace.

Baba is omniscient & omnipotent

Here is more about how we can think about this topic. The entire creation lies within the mind of Parama Purusa so Parama Purusa sees everything. It is all in His mind. Whereas human beings acquire knowledge from outside themselves. For a person to know something then they must look outside the scope and periphery of their own mind. But with Parama Purusa nothing is outside His mind. That means that He does not 'know' anything; rather He sees everything as it is all going on within His own mind.

He has His own characteristic: He controls all - so He does not need any cult. For Parama Purusa, there is no question of occult power. His power has nothing to do with cult. It is just like, Parama Purusa does not have any jinana (knowledge). What He has is not what we call as jinana. Similarly, what He has is not occult power. He did not get his power by practicing cult.

Conclusion

In the past and in the present also, many avidya tantrikas have been using their occult powers to enhance their prestige and for getting name and fame etc; and in consequence they get degenerated. In this material world occult power is recognised by the "show" of those who possess them. Because of doing sadhana, they get occult power. But in the case of Parama Purusa, such powers are His inherent and intrinsic quality. He need not to practice any cult in order to get those things.

The term 'occult' means those powers which are acquired through the practice of cult. But in the case of degenerated human beings especially, to gain prestige amongst the common innocent mass or their disciples, such avidya tantrikas do like this. Their motive is bad, self-centered, ego-centered. So by that type of show, their degeneration occurs from human structure to lifeless matter. Ananda Marga philosophy never appreciates this type of show of occult powers.

Everybody knows that Baba does not present miracles to show his greatness - not did He go in public and do occult powers. At the same time, Without a practical demonstration of His spiritual philosophy, people would have thought that those concepts were merely myths. So by giving demonstrations in front of sadhakas only, then every disciple clearly understood that Baba's spiritual teachings were something very real and practical.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Kala’

Misuse of occult powers brings ruination

Prabhat Samgiita #3333 reveals what happens to those who long for occult powers:

“- Aes't'ashvaryya tumi cha'r'a'... kare viveka-ha'ra' -“

Purport: Those who use occult powers destroy themselves. They do all kinds of degrading and harmful things. In showing off their occult powers, they end up harming others. They invite negative samskaras and are degenerated into stone, wood, or mud. Instead of serving others, those lusting after occult powers demean and hurt innocent people and ruin themselves.

Occult powers are like dust of the earth

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Hence the spiritual aspirant must not run after these inconsequential occult powers, although while prasticing spiritual cult they may develop. You must not forget that all your achievements must maintain adjustment with the main propensities of the mind, and in the process of adjustment, all these eight types of occult powers present themselves to the spiritual aspirant.” (3)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “While practising spiritual cult, it should be remembered that spiritual aspirants must not practise in order to acquire these occult powers. The goal of spiritual practice is to realize the Supreme Entity. To search for any other thing is wrong. Occult powers are just like the dust on the roadside. The attraction for Parama Puruśa is the most valuable object – all else is only the dust of the earth.” (4)

You took advent as Mahasambhuti

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Yugántarer tamasá náshite, álor jhalake esechile..." (Prabhat Samgiita #4718)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, to eliminate the darkness piled up over the ages, You came in the flow of light. In those dark days of the distant past the whole society was drowned in dogma and everyone was suffering in pain and agony. In that desperate moment, in a flash of lightening - floating in the rhythm of dance, You took advent as Mahasambhuti. You came and showered Your grace to wipe away the age-old staticity and inundate this earth with bhakti.

Baba, O’ Parama Purusa, before Your auspicious arrival, it was very bleak; there was no positive pulsation of life. Just there was sorrow and misery in every direction. People were depressed. The society was submerged in the murkiness of materialism and selfishness. There was greediness, in-fighting, and hatred all around.  Nobody had the stamina to shake the struggling humanity from its inertia. No one valiantly came forward and declared, “Arise, awake, the new dawn has come! Get rid of all dogma and follow the path of neo-humanism!” No one called out, “Always keep the great ideology in mind: True progress is only when one is advancing towards divinity, Supreme fulfillment, and the Cosmic Entity.”

Baba, Your victorious chariot is fast moving forward, with its rattling sound, in the bhuloka, duloka, and triloka and throughout the infinite arena. Your exquisite vibration is reaching each and every corner of this vast cosmos. The entire universe is being transformed in all the realms: physical, psychic, and spiritual. O’ Parama Purusa, You told everyone this eternal truth, “In your frustration do not sit and cry in the depths of hell. Arise, awake, and follow the sublime path. Human life is very valuable and you must not forget that Your destination is Parama Purusa.” Baba, You bestowed this magnificent and blessing upon all.

O’ Parama Purusa, You came and wiped away all the darkness by infusing Your endless effulgence. It is Your grace, it is Your grace...

Note about Prabhat Samgiita #4718:

The below passage from Ananda Marga ideology following discourse expresses the conclusive idea of this Prabhat Samgiita.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "O human beings, you are fortunate. The clarion call of the Universal has reached you. Not only has the call come, but you are hearing it and it is vibrating in every cell of your body. Will you now lie in the corner of your house as an inert being and waste your time by clinging to old skeletons and bemoaning them? The Supreme Being is calling you in the  roar of the ocean, in the thunder of the clouds, in the speed of lightning, in the meteor's flaming fires. Nothing good will come from idleness. Get up and awake the clouded chivalry of your dormant youth. It may be that the path is not strewn with flowers and that inferiority complex will be attempting to hold fast your each advancing step, but even then you have to proceed onwards tearing the shroud of darkness. You will tear the thick darkness of despair as you advance in the racing chariot radiant with the Sun's brilliance towards the attainment of the Supreme state." (1)

Those same divine ideas which Sadguru has given in His various discourses are also present in Prabhat Samgiita. That means the ideas which have been given in prose have also been given in the music and poetry of Prabhat Samgiita. The main difference between Ananda Marga ideological discourses and Prabhat Samgiita is that Prabhat Samgiita is quite concentrated. Those teachings of Prabhat Samgiita are presented in a very condensed form - such as in half a line or less; whereas in Ananda Marga discourses that same idea might be explained over the course of several pages or more. That is why without proper translations and purports, Prabhat Samgiita is often unintelligible.
