Superstitions in AMPS etc

Baba

Superstitions in AMPS etc

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The social laws of the Marga do not only make no distinction between one person and another, but ensure that both sexes have to share equal responsibility in life. All social superstitions, such as discrimination against widows, etc., are discarded.” (1)

India Superstition: torture of widows

In various countries widows were not given equal rights. This was especially the case in India in certain communities.
(a) Widows were forced to remain celibate for the rest of their life.
(b) Widows were made to wear white uniforms.
(c) Widow were not allowed to participate in any festivities.
(d) Widow were forced to lead the life of a hermit and follow very restrictive conduct rules regarding food, and lifestyle habits etc.
(e) Due to childhood marriages, sometimes the infant of 2 or 3 years of age would become a widow and that child was forced to do twice monthly ekadashii fast without water. And their parents used to eat fish in front of that small child. And that infant would cry. What to say about food, the baby widow was not allowed to drink water. In severe conditions they would pour water in her ear to cool her down. This barbarous treatment went on for hundreds of years. This all happened due to the superstition of widowhood. That widow was treated as a demon who swallowed her husband. That was the belief.

Superstitions in AMPS

(a) If you are born in a particular caste then you will be in central office.
(b) If your mother tongue is of a particular language then only can you govern a unified AMPS.
(c) If you are born in a particular country then you can get a top or key post like SS or central.
(d) If you are born as a certain gender then you have to be subservient to the other gender.

Ananda Marga philosophy does not support these above or any superstitions. But the organisation AMPS which is made to propagate Ananda Marga philosophy is slowly drowning in superstition. We have to be alert. Now please see what Baba says about superstition.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Superstitions have not left any field uncontaminated. In the social sphere there is no dearth of superstitions. Witchcraft, discrimination against widows, etc., are curses in society only due to such superstitions. In the psychic sphere there are deep-rooted superstitions such as the belief in ghosts (bhút), etc. Not only this, but superstitions related to shráddha [funeral ceremonies], etc., have also bound down even the progeny of a person. In the spiritual field, also, ignorant people have been forced to do many things only because of the deep-rooted superstition of heaven and hell. All these only disturb psychic equilibrium and bring about discord and worry in society. For the preservation of peace, the fight against superstition is of prime importance." ( A Few Problems Solved - 7, Social Psychology)

Europe: Superstition about illegitimate children

A similar thing happened in Christian countries also. For example, in Ireland if a girl got pregnant out of wedlock she was forced to live in a caged house. In that segregated place, cut off from the rest of society, the girl would lead a life of humiliation. After giving birth she was basically separated from her child. Just during specific times those women would take care of the child and then spend the bulk of the time as slave labour for the church. When the child became a year old that child was forcibly separated from the mother as punishment to both the mother and child for giving birth out of wedlock. This was due to the superstition that both child and mother were both work of the devil. And they should not live in the society otherwise the society would get destroyed. When the mother was outside the compound she was forced not to talk with anyone about the child. By this punishment, both mother and baby were terribly harmed. The child was emotionally scarred as that baby did not get love and affection it needed and the mother was also scarred as she lost her child. Ultimately, the church put the child up for adoption and that child was often abused by the adoptive family.

Africa: torturing children as being the devil

In Africa there are thousands of innocent kids no older than 3 or 4 years of age who are accused of being the incarnation of the devil. Those kids get beaten and removed from their homes. Those kids are completely alienated as no one wants to go close to those kids. So those children start living in the street like dogs. At times a few good people care for them, but thousands of those innocent children die of neglect. This entire scene is similar to the Salem witch trials in the US during the 1690’s when certain women were declared as being witches and they were often tortured to death.

Conclusion

In our Ananda Marga there are no such superstitions. Widows are not harshly labeled as outcastes etc simply because they are a widow. Widows are granted the same rights and respect as everyone else. And children born out of wedlock are also given 100% of the rights as those kids born to a married parents. Those born out of wedlock are not stigmatized. Baba has given Ananda Marga to eradicate all sorts of religious superstition and dogmas.

“CNN: Excavations have uncovered "significant quantities of human remains" at a former home for unmarried mothers run by nuns in Ireland, officials said Friday. Tests indicated they belonged to young children. An investigation was opened following public outcry when a local historian said in 2014 that she believed the bodies of 800 children could be buried on the site of the former St. Mary's Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, County Galway. The remains were found in the chambers of an underground structure next to a septic tank which could have been used for sewage storage or treatment, the Commission on Mother and Baby Homes said in a statement Friday.” (3)

“Wikipedia: Recent reports by UNICEF, UNHCR, Save The Children and Human Rights Watch have also highlighted the violence and abuse towards children accused of witchcraft in Africa. Accusations of witchcraft in Africa are a very serious matter as the witch is culturally understood to be the epitome of evil and the cause of all misfortune, disease and death. Consequently, the witch is the most hated person in African society and subjected to punishment, torture and even death.”

“The victims of witchcraft accusations in African societies have usually been the elderly, the disabled, albinos and anyone who was considered different. In recent years due to the impact of rapid urbanisation, economic decline, as well as the HIV/AIDS pandemic, children have become more and more the victims of witchcraft accusations, especially orphans. Child victims of witchcraft accusations are more vulnerable than adult victims as they cannot defend themselves as they are confronted with physical and psychological abuse from their family and community. Children accused of witchcraft may be subjected to violent exorcism rituals by African Pentecostal-Charismatic pastors who mix Christianity with African witchcraft beliefs. Such exorcism may include incarceration, starvation and being made to drink hazardous substances. In other cases accused children are expelled and end up living on the streets, are trafficked and in some instances they are killed.” (4)

Shape of our future generations + 5 more

Baba

Shape of our future generations

Namaskar,

Human beings are constantly undergoing change - in the physical realm, the psychic realm, and the spiritual realm.

Struggle & class brings development

Where there is physical clash [physical struggle] there will be physical development. An example of this is a person who trains for years and years to be an Olympic gymnast. By that physical engagement, the muscles develop and their physical body undergoes change - it grows. In contrast, if one does not exercise their physical body they will become physically weaker. A patient bedridden in the hospital does not have opportunity to walk or run; in result, they will lose their muscle mass and become weaker. So where there is physical clash there will be physical development, and vice versa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Next is the psychic realm: Here also the same premise holds true. Where there is psychic clash [psychic struggle] there is psychic development. A classic case is the student deeply involved in university studies. As they are fully engaged in the learning process and constantly taking in and processing new information, they experience great change in the psychic or intellectual realm. In contrast, a person who never thinks deeply, and just goes through the day in a mechanical way, will lose their psychic faculties. Such is the law of nature.

So the theorem is: Physical clash [physical struggle] then physical development; psychic clash [psychic struggle] then psychic development; and longing for the Great then spiritual development.

Accordingly, some wonder what will the human body look like in the future.

Will be unable to walk

Over time, as humans struggle and adapt to ever-changing conditions - on the personal, societal, and environmental level - naturally the body changes. The gene code changes according to human need.

Essentially those changes are gradual, but they are nonetheless occurring. It is just like how if you see an 8-year-old boy everyday then you will barely notice any change. But if you go away and return two, five, or ten years later, you will see tremendous change in the boy. Seeing him five or ten years later you may not even recognise him at all. Same is the case with humanity. From one generation to the next, you may not notice much changes in the human specimen, but over the course of 50 generations, there were will be tremendous change. One may hardly even recognise them as human beings.

So what will the human body look like in the future?
  • 1. The head will be bigger, and
  • 2. The body will be smaller / weaker.
There are two basic forces at work toward these transformations. Firstly, with more and more mechanization in society, humans do less and less physical work. Long back, a typical human might walk 30, or 50, or even 100 miles in a single day - and they would not feel tired or sore. Today, however, most rely on some form of transportation whether it be bicycle, rickshaw, bus, taxi, train, automobile, helicopter, or airplane etc. To the degree one relies on mechanized form of transportation, one becomes physically weaker. This is the norm. Most would be stricken by the idea of having to walk 30 or 50 miles in a single day.

Why head will become bigger

And not just with transportation but in all realms of life there are great gains being made in the field of technology that makes like physically easier for us. That means less physical clash [psychical struggle] and a corresponding loss of physical activity and strength. And verily the physical body will get smaller. In one of His teachings below, Baba hints at how human beings will not even be able to walk - their legs will not support them. That is one-half of the equation.

The other half is that people will gradually become more and more mind-oriented. Instead of addressing life's problems with their might, they will rely on their intellect. In the past, to solve basic problems like water humans would carry buckets or build aqueducts. It was primarily a physical process. Now, however, to solve a similar problem, we use our psychic quality to come up with a solution and then implement that solution using computers, engines, and other mechanical or electronic devices etc . So the solution lies in the mental sphere. Essentially, humans will undergo more and more psychic clash [psychic struggle] and they will grow in the mental-cum-intellectual realm. And since the brain and brainstem are highly linked with the mind, the brain will become more complex and the cranium and head will become bigger - much bigger. And indeed, since long scientists have documented how the human cranium has evolved and grown over time. And this will continue at a more dramatic and faster rate in the future.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

The rule is that if you utilise any limb or organ then it gets strengthened and if you do not use that organ or muscle then it weakens. In the present day world people do not use their arms or legs very much so those faculties are getting weaker. Whereas nowadays people have to use their brains for so many daily engagements so the brain is becoming bigger. If you go one million years back those early humans had smaller brains than modern human beings. And still today, indigenous tribes living in the wild, where they are not connected to modern civilisation, have a smaller cranium and a smaller vocabulary as well. In this world nothing is fixed. According to the need, nature provides. Based on this theory we can understand how in future generations - after a few thousand years - humans will be completely different from today’s population.

This theory of struggle and progress can be utilised in favour of present-day human health. To keep your arms, feet, and legs strong, exercise them regularly. Putting stress on those joints, muscles, and limbs will keep them strong. Similar is the case with the brain also. If you want to remain alert even when you are elderly, then keep active and always engage in intellectually challenging endeavours. Then brain diseases will be kept at bay.

Change in the nerve cells

Here following are Baba's teaching that demonstrate who due to increased mechanization and psychic engagement, the future humans will have bigger heads and smaller bodies than that present humanity.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Human beings were born onto this earth about one million years ago. In those times, human beings were primitive. The people of today are very different from those primitive personalities - there is a great difference between them. How did this difference occur? Due to constant changes in structure a metamorphosis took place. An evolved psychic structure emerged and a corresponding change occurred in the physical structure to facilitate a proper physical medium for that evolved psychic structure. Human beings started thinking about certain subjects and remained in that state of contemplation for a long period. Human beings could not make their undeveloped nerves and nerve cells serve as the correct medium for their evolved psychic structure, so a change in the nerve cells had to be brought about. And so a change in the nerve cells and nerve fibres occurred. As a result the human face has also changed. The humans of one million years ago had a very small cranium. These so-called humans had a very small number of nerve cells. Their brains were small and their bodies were relatively big."
"So humanity continued progressing in the intellectual spheres and grew weaker in the physical sphere. Naturally, the cranium grew, while the remaining portion of the body became weaker." (1)

Arms become thin & head will be abnormally large

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Thus, in the future, as people’s thought processes become more complicated, many new vrttis will develop. The number of vrttis may not stay at fifty. Just imagine the situation that will arise in the future as a result of humanity’s ever increasing thirst for knowledge. To meet these developments the nerve cells and nerve fibres will have to become more complex. Consequently, the human cranium will become larger and the size of the head will increase. The hands and feet will become weaker and weaker and human beings may even lose the ability to walk. Today, the human toes have almost stopped functioning – in spiritual actions we have almost no use for them – whereas at one time, when we used to walk on four legs, we used our toes as much as our fingers. The front legs were used less and less, and were transformed into arms, and thus these days it has become almost impossible for us to crawl on all fours. There was a time when humans would run on four legs, but today they cannot do that. After a time, children feel uncomfortable crawling around on all fours and try to walk on their hind legs. In the initial stages, when they try to stand up, they soon fall down. Again they stand up, again they fall down. When they finally develop the habit of standing on two legs, there are corresponding changes in the physical structure so that the use of their arms becomes less. In the future, the legs will be used less and less and the capacity to move on them will decrease. The arms will become thin, and the head will become abnormally large."
"Today we think that such people will look very strange, but in the future one may hear people commenting, “Oh, how handsome he looks with eyes as small as little peas and arms as thin as jute sticks. He can’t hear anything with his ears. In fact, he hasn’t got any ears at all! What an attractive man.” Although it seems slightly repulsive to us, this will become the standard of beauty in future. People will judge beauty according to the standards of the day, saying, “Oh, those stick-like arms of his make him look so handsome. The fellow can’t walk properly. How wonderful.” And if someone can walk, people will say, “How indecent that fellow looks hobbling around on two legs!” But if he crawls along the ground they will say, “How wonderful, how beautiful!” If we were to see this sort of scene today, however, we would say, “How unsightly. That fellow is uglier than an owl.”" (2)

Baba, You are hiding in the depths of the mind

“Maneri gahane tumi ácho, ácho prabhu sadá jege ácho…” (Prabhata Samgiita #4380)

Purport:

O' Prabhu, You remain always in the depths of my mind – and never leave me. By Your grace, I am never alone. You are always awake, regardless of the time and date. You go on working day and night, beyond time, without ever getting tired or stopping. Whatever You want to do, You go on doing ceaselessly without rest.

O’ Parama Purusa, this whole animate and inanimate universe is Your playing ball. You are the ever-present, beginningless and endless, non-decaying, eternal Entity. You are ever divinely vibrated, always smiling in Your magnificent flow like the kimshuk flower. You want that those under the spell of slumber of the six enemies and the eight bondages should awaken from their infatuation and inertia. Baba, You are deeply and blissfully busy in Your cosmic liila.

Baba, O' Parama Purusa, although they do not have means but You are the Goal of all; everyone wants You. Every jiiva keeps You in their heart always. That is why they are always trying to come close to You by their virtuous deeds, shravan, manan, nididhyasana, and dhyana. Only those who are blessed are able to realise You, and have Your darshan and proximity. You dance and express Yourself in the mirror of Your ma’ya’ amidst the mountains and the ocean, and from dwellings to the wilderness, hills, and flower gardens.

Baba, You are krpa-personified; I surrender at Your holy feet...

Practical application of loopholes in Indian constitution

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "There are several fiscal and psychological loopholes in the Indian constitution. The constitution of India proclaims that all are equal in the eye of the law. But in practice, this principle is not followed, and as a result disparity is growing in the arena of law and justice. Such disparity is adversely affecting the different groups of people in the country. For example, there are disparities between the Hindu Code and the Muslim Code. Hindu women and Muslim women, although they are all Indian citizens, do not get equal advantages of law. For instance, according to Hindu law, a man cannot have more than one wife, but a Muslim man is entitled to have more than one wife. A Hindu husband or a Hindu wife is required to approach the court to secure a divorce, while a Muslim man is entitled to divorce his wife without the permission or approval of the court. Moreover, a Muslim husband can divorce his wife but a Muslim wife cannot divorce her husband. Besides, a Muslim husband is not required to show [[any reason for the divorce]].”
“Disparity in the eye of the law is creating all these problems. The root of all these evils lies in the psychological loopholes of the Indian constitution. Why is the constitution allowing the Hindu Code and Muslim Code to stand side by side? Let there be only one code – the Indian Code. This Indian Code should be based on cardinal human values, with a universal approach and Neo-Humanistic spirit. Then only equality before the law can be established in practice, and equal protection of the law for all can be guaranteed. So the constitution should remove the psychological loopholes by eradicating existing disparities in the eye of the law.”

Re: Answer for future healthy brain

Namaskara

Your article on brain diseases and the AM dances given by Baba is very enlightening. I used to do 30 rounds of tandava and 30 rounds of kaoshikii almost daily as long as my job permits me. I am already 57 years and still relatively healthy and could teach whole day without much difficulty. But I just do it in the morning. In your article you mentioned that we need to do it twice. Thanks for the reminder.

To blame God: good or bad

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Logically it has been proved that the experiencing of the reaction (karmaphala) of an action cannot be evaded. That being so, blaming God (Bhagaván) for the consequences of our actions or praying to be released from bearing the consequences is only foolishness. One who performs actions will have to bear the reactions also. If you plunge your hand in fire you will surely burn it. To blame God for burning your hand is merely ignorance or stupidity. It is the nature of fire to burn, and whatsoever comes in contact with it will be burnt. Similarly, it is a self-evident law of Prakrti or Her very nature that all actions will have reactions. God (Bhagaván) is not in the least responsible for it. The performer of the actions is responsible for it. The performer of the actions is responsible for the reactions also, since God has not performed the actions. He cannot be responsible for the reactions. It is only people who are responsible for actions as well as for bearing the consequences of these actions." (1)

Present & future humans + 2 more

Baba

Present & future humans

 Namaskar,

The work of Saguna Brahma is related with srsti - creation: To present more and more created beings into this manifested cosmos. Now, however, with the advancement of science, laboratory specialists are taking over that work, day by day.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Already laboratory babes are being produced. Scientists take one ovum and spermatozoa and combine them in the lab. In that process of fusion, the two initial cells die and an entirely new third entity is created. That is the initial stage of a human life; at that very juncture mind is attached with that entity. And then that newly created being is inserted into the womb of a surrogate mother.

When Baba delivered this discourse in 1958 the aforesaid process was unthinkable. Yet what Baba told has now become a living reality here in earth. Scientists have made such advancements. Now, people are ordering babies according to their liking. Some parents want a mixed baby with certain Asian physical features, along with the height of a Scandinavian etc. In this way, people are designing and ordering their babies. And then scientists get the relevant ovum and spermatozoa from those human communities and join those cells in the lab.

They even know how to remove particular genes that produce dangerous diseases. And verily this science will continue to develop and become more widely used around the globe. In this way, humans are taking over the work that is normally done by Saguna Brahma.

Verily we have witnessed the dramatic impact humans have made with dog breeding. Each year they are combining favourable breeds of dogs to make an entirely new breed. In this way, humans are introducing new and newer beings into creation. In the past this was all done by allowing prakrti to exert her influence over Saguna Brahma. In that way so many shapes and forms were created in this world: Rivers, mountains, oceans, animals, and human beings.

And in another discourse, Baba guides us that as human intuition develops, those human beings will know more and more. And when they meet others they will be able to see each others past lives - stretching back several incarnations - and know what they were and from where they came.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Humans will even be able to restore life to dead bodies

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Science is moving fast – it is moving ahead and it will continue to move ahead. Nobody can check the advancement of science by criticizing it. Those who try to make such attempts will themselves lag behind – they will be rejected by the modern world."
"Human beings will definitely be able to increase human longevity by scientific techniques. In certain special cases they will even be able to restore life to dead bodies. The endeavour to expedite the advent of that auspicious day of science is certainly an important part of social service."
"One day human beings will also learn how to produce human babes in science laboratories. Perhaps then it will be possible for human beings to place an order for their children and to get children according to their choice. Why should these laboratory babes lag behind modern humans with respect to intellectual and spiritual wealth! Those opposed to science today challenge, “Let human beings demonstrate that they can produce living entities!” By producing laboratory babes, the human beings of the future will give a befitting reply to this challenge."
"The development of intuition will make human beings more spiritually inclined. What Saguńa Brahma [the Qualified Supreme Entity] is directly doing today will be done increasingly by the human beings of tomorrow. In that age the reproductive capacity of the human body will gradually cease to exist." (1)

Beyond the seven oceans where the blackness & effulgence meet

"Kálo jetháy áloy meshe,sát ságar páre..." (Prabhat Samgiita #1867)

Purport:

After crossing the seven oceans, the seven lokas (bhú, bhuvah, svah, maha, jana, tapah, and satya) [1], there is a land where the blackness and effulgence meet: the world of immortality. At that tangential place, my Bandhu [2] is their, I will meet Him.

(This above first stanza carries a deeply philosophical and spiritual meaning. The basic idea is that beyond the seven lokas -  bhú, bhuvah, svah, maha, jana, tapah, and satya - there is a heavenly abode. On the path of sadhana and with the grace of the Supreme, mind of a sadhaka can cross the seven spheres and reach the Parama Purusa.) [3]

O’ Parama Purusa, Your and my intimate closeness, benevolence, and affection have been present since eternity. This relation of ours is beyond the relative factors of time, space, and person. Our personal link knows no bounds; it is not subject to any limitations. During my entire movement through saincara and pratisaincara always You are with me. O’ Parama Purusa, You alone are my eternal Companion. Everything else in this mobile universe comes and goes. Under the ignorance of avidya maya I foolishly depended on worldly things, thinking those transitory items will be with me up to infinity. Now the awareness has come, by Your grace, and I understand that everything in this expressed world is ephemeral. You are showering Your compassion always. No one will ever be able to hinder our connection. Even the vast, boundless ocean of avidya maya cannot create obstacles in our relation. It is Your grace.

O’ Parama Purusa, I was Yours then, and that still today I am Yours. So many lifetimes have passed and all along I was under Your shelter, in the past and at present also. But sometimes I was captivated by my blind attachments. I temporarily lost the path of dharma and got caught in the net of avidya maya. That was my darkest hour.  Baba, please colour me by spreading the pollen of Your heart, Your unfathomable prema. O' my Nearest One, love me so much that Your kindness dominates my entire existence; by Your mercy, I will not get lured or attracted by anything else...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #1867:

Satya loka

[1] Satya loka: Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Satya Loka – all the three guńas are present in this loka but they are dormant. In this loka only Parama Puruśa exists; the guńas exist only in dormant state just as in Nirguńa Brahma. Thus, in this universe there are seven spheres of Sapta Lokátmaka. Six of them possess qualities while the seventh is the state of Nirguńa Brahma, without any qualities.”

Ananda Marga philosophy states,  “The unit consciousness or jiiva needs an ádhára: without any ádhára it would merge in the ocean of Brahma. The water in a bowl placed in a pond retains its individual identity only until the bowl is broken – then the water contained in it loses its individual identity and merges in the pond water which surrounds it. Hence as long as the saḿskáras are present, an ádhára is necessary to maintain one’s identity. Without any ádhára the átman will merge with Brahma. The five kośas plus the physical body are as follows: Annamaya Kośa – This crudest layer is the physical body which is made of the five fundamental factors and is dependent on food for its maintenance. This is the crudest shell around átman. In this Kośa tamah is dominant; rajah is less and sattva is least. This annamaya kośa is derived from the Bhúr loka of the cosmic mind.
Kámamaya Kośa – This crude mental body is derived from Bhúvar Loka of the cosmic mind; it operates the body and is subtler than the crude physical body. In this kośa, tamah is dominant, sattva is less and rajah is least.”

“Manomaya Kośa – is derived from the next higher loka of the cosmic mind, the Svarloka or Manomaya loka which is the pure mental body of the cosmic mind. It is in this loka that saḿskáras is experienced, and also pleasure and pain. In the Manomaya Kośa, rajah is dominant; tamah is less and sattva is least.”

“Atimánas Kośa – this layer is derived from the Mahar loka or supramental body of the cosmic mind. It is in this kośa that the saḿskáras originates. The difference between the good and the bad saḿskáras is also seen in this Kośa. Here Rajah is dominant; sattva is less and tamah is least.”

“Vijiṋánamaya Kośa – This layer is derived from Janar loka of the cosmic mind. In this kośa exists the knowledge of existenc, the knowledge of “I”. Here also vaerágya and viveka are found, and this kośa the desire for sadhaná arises. Here sattva is dominant; tamah is less and rajah is least.”

“Hirańmaya Kośa – in this kośa the body even the knowledge of “I” is not much in evidence the consciousness of individuality is present, ill defined and unclear. This is the subtlest layer of mind around the átman. In fact feeling of “I” is reflective in this kośa only because of its close proximity to the vijiṋánamaya kośa. Here sattva is dominant, rajah is less and tamah is least.”
Hirańmaye pare kośe
Virajaḿ Brahma niśkalam

– Vedas
Ananda Marga philosophy states,  “This kośa is derived from the Tapah or Hiranmaya loka; its name means “made of gold” and hence it is as pure and beautiful as gold. The Satya Loka which is the finest loka in the cosmic mind and where Brahma resides does not exist in the form of a kośa because kośas are limited while satya is unlimited and imperishable. Satya loka cannot therefore be part of any limited and perishable body formed of five kośas. In Satya loka the átman alone exists; only due to the influence of Prakrti five kośas or realms come into existence.”

“In Brahma due to the influence of Prakrti, the universe of seven lokas or saptalokátmaka jagat are formed, while in the unit consciousness, the five kośas come into existence. In other words, in Brahma there are seven realms or seven lokas while in the unit entities there are five layers or kośas. One body composed of the five fundamental factors, ten indriyas and five tanmátras make up an individual’s Brahmáńd́a (literally “universe”).” (1)

[2] Bandhu: This is one of the names of Parama Purusa, i.e. the Eternal Companion who stays with you even after death. Here below are some of Guru’s teachings on the term bandhu.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “What is the meaning of “bandhu”? In Saḿskrta, the meaning of the word “bandhu” is “to bind”. Bandhu indicates that person or entity who cannot stand separation. Parama Puruśa or Saguńa Brahma is closely and intimately connected with this expressed world, or jagata. He is pervasively connected with every individual entity, be it a living being or a crude object. He is also linked through and through with the universe as a whole. In other words, He is indissolubly and inextricably involved (ota prota) with everything. Therefore, He is the only bandhu of this universe. The rest of your bandhus in the physical world are not your eternal friends. Though they are with you now, a day will soon come when they will go away; they will be separated from you. When you depart from this world, these friends will accompany or carry your dead body. But how far will they accompany you? They will accompany your body up to the cremation ground or the burning ghat. Having gone so far, at the most they will return to their own dwelling places. So they are not your real bandhu. There is a shloka in Saḿskrta:”

    Atyágasahano bandhu sadaevánumatah suhrd;
    Eka kryaḿ bhavenmitraḿ samapráńáh sakhásmrtah.

“He who loves [[so much that]] he can never sustain the grief of separation, is known as “bandhu”. In this sense, nobody can have any bandhu in this world. Only that Jagatabandhu – that Parama Puruśa – can be your bandhu. No one else is your bandhu. Only He is your real friend.” (2)

[3] This following teaching provides insight into the deeply philosophical meaning of the first stanza of the above Prabhat Samgiita.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “There are seven lokas in the ascending order – Bhú, Bhuvah, Svah, Maha, Jana, Tapah and Satya – there are seven lokas in descending order – Bhú, Tala, Atala, Talátala, Pátála, Atipátála and Rasátala.” (3)

Told to bhaktas only + 3 More

Baba

Told to bhaktas only

Namaskar,

Those days, we can say that there were essentially two broad categories of bhaktas: Those who were like Sudama and those who were like Arjuna. Sudama had full feeling and unwavering belief that Lord Krsna is Parama Purusa.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Openly announced about Himself

From hour to hour and year to year, always Sudama held the realisation in his heart and mind that Lord Krsna is God. In contrast, Arjuna did not have full faith that Lord Krsna is Parama Purusa. Arjuna's mind was always riddled with doubt. To remove Arjuna's doubts, Lord Krsna had to show His vishvarupa (universal form). Then Arjuna's mind became convinced.

To satisfy all those bhaktas who suffered from similar doubts, on various occasions, Lord Krsna openly proclaimed Himself as the Divine Entity using very direct language.
Mama vartmánu varttante manuśyáh Pártha sarvashah
"'If people resort to the path that I show they are sure to attain salvation in the end...I will liberate You'." (1)

And in another shloka Lord Krsna has proclaimed:
Paritráńáya sádhúnáḿ vinásháya ca duśkrtám;
Dharmasaḿsthápanártháya sambhavámi yuge yuge.
"'I incarnate Myself in this world from age to age for the annihilation of the wicked and the protection of the virtuous'." (2)

Why Lord Ksna was very direct about His status

Lord Krsna was very forthright and direct in telling those bhaktas about His divine status. In that era of old, the people were very simple. They did not resort to lying or bragging. What they were, they spoke; and what others said, they believed. Because nobody was falsely telling about their own greatness. People were very straightforward where they would matter-of-factly speak of their status. That was the social norm. Accordingly, Lord Krsna told to those around Him that He was the Parama Purusa. And the people had full faith and trust on what He told. By this way those Arjuna type of people got the support they needed to be strict on the point of Ista, i.e. accepting Lord Krsna as Parama Purusa. That was 3500 years ago.

Around 2000 years ago, a different era took hold on this earth. In that time there were numerous people claiming to be the incarnation of God, the son of God, or the divine messenger of God etc. There was no shortage of such persons who were indulged in this type of self-glorification. This type of mentality did not exist earlier. But it was this mindset that gave rise to the birth of the Semitic religions - where such claims are the sole basis for the existence of that religion.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

All brag about their own inflated greatness

In this present era, the collective psychology has slid further down this continuum of decline and degradation. Everyone is prone towards inflating their own personality. This is the common trend where people eagerly and anxiously speak about their own "greatness" and "extraordinary talents." A person who has read 4 books will proclaim himself to be a scholar; an athlete will proclaim himself to be a demi-god, and verily nearly everyone props themselves up to be something they are not. In turn, others do not believe what a person proclaims. They do not take it at face value, or any value. Because self-glorification and hypocrisy are rampant.

This was perhaps the main reason why Baba did not openly proclaim to one and all that, "I am Parama Purusa." Because society was not ready to take it in the right way.

However, He did graciously present Himself to His bhaktas - in various ways: Dreams, sadhana, personal contact (PC), in dharma samiiksa, reporting, demonstrations, dhyana, discourses, and numerous ways. About this, each and every sadhaka has their own personal story to tell. This was all done exclusively for the welfare of the bhakta. Parama Purusa has nothing to gain in this regard. So this was the unique and special opportunity for each sadhaka to advance on the spiritual path by developing a personal link with Him. In sum, we can say that it was nothing but His ahaetuki krpa (causeless grace).

So the fact that He is Parama Purusa was made known to bhaktas only - not to members of the general society. Higher sadhaka, through their spiritual approach coupled with His grace, can intuitively feel in their heart and mind that Baba is Parama Purusa. And for those new margiis who need external support, Baba has graciously shown them in their heart that He is Parama Purusa. This has occurred through DMC, general darshan and  in front of other margiis etc.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

The best way: through sadhana

There are various grades of sadhakas on the path of Ananda Marga. Some have been blessed to intuitively feel in their heart that Baba is Parama Purusa; and, others need external support and evidence, from time to time, to remind them of this eternal truth.

All along, it must be borne in mind that the only way to truly feel that Baba is Parama Purusa is through sadhana. Only with that inner realisation can the mind wholeheartedly embrace this supreme truth. If anyone relies exclusively on external reminders or outer suggestions, that will not work. When tough times arise they will run from the field, and if someone offers a contrary view of Baba and / or Ananda Marga they will easily be swayed. So the only way to be firmly rooted in Ananda Marga tantra yoga is through sadhana. Then only will one truly realise that Baba is Parama Purusa. Keeping this view in mind, please read the following.

So many ways Baba reveals Himself to bhaktas

Sometimes a few new Ananda Margiis have doubts about Baba's real identity. To be caught in such a dilemma is not good for any sadhaka.

For this reason, in a very loving and personal manner, Baba graciously shows those sadhakas through dharma samiikas, PC, and reporting etc, how He is always with them, watching them, protecting them. This is the very basis of bhakti: Feeling in one's heart that Parama Purusa is always present, always with me. So for a bhakta to intimately understand that Baba is that very Parama Purusa is everything. By this way one feels that they are never alone or helpless, as Baba is always there, lovingly showering His grace.

And there are countless ways by which Baba brings His bhaktas close. Some see Him in dreams, others in dhyana, and still others gain an understanding of His Divine grandeur through PC, demonstrations, varabhaya mudra, experiences with microvita or dharma samiiksa, kiirtan, blessings, discourses, and so many ways. On this matter, on this journey of finding that inner link with Him, each and every bhakta has their own personal account and experience. Somehow, some way, they came to understand how Baba is always with them, caring for them.

And that He sees everything. He sees their smiles and their tears, their joys and sorrow, their past mistakes and their future glory. Then the entire concept of Parama Purusa as a Personal God is no longer just a figment of philosophy but rather a practical, heart-felt experience.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Conclusion

Verily this is the speciality of Ananda Marga. Every sadhaka feels they have their own special link with the Divine Entity. This is dramatically different from the various religions who feel that God is but a vision in the distant sky who sternly looks down upon them, or the various other paths that state that the divine is nothingness itself or beyond one's reach in this lifetime.

Ananda Marga is the path of bliss: Realising the very practical notion that Baba is the Parama Purusa who resides in the heart, watching everything, showering His love, and keeping us under His divine shelter. Baba did not beat the drum about His divine advent because He did not want worthless people crowding around Him while bhaktas are pushed aside. So He brought bhaktas close and allotted His work to them.

Baba may not have announced His Divine Presence to the world. Yet certainly He has shown Himself to each and every sadhaka. And by this way, His disciples develop firm faith in Ista, bask in His divine bliss, and sit on His lap. It is truly His grace.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Citsvarup

To general people and common society Baba hid Himself through various liila and played the role of a most ordinary human being whereas for bhaktas He revealed everything in so many ways. Nobody can understand that liila of Parama purusa

Scene at DMC:
Baba shows how He is Supreme Noumenal Entity, Supreme Hub

Here is an example of Baba directly indicating to few margiis that He is the omniscient Parama Purusa. In the following scene from DMC in Timmern, Germany (1979), Baba graciously shows Himself as Parama Purusa, and thus clears the doubts of certain Ananda Margiis. How does He do this? With His all-knowing mind He uncovers what a few margiis thought while decorating the hall - even though He was not present at that time. This shows that He is that Divine Omnipresent Personality - the Parama Purusa.

Here is a closer look at this exact scene from that DMC.

"You know, the Supreme noumenal entity maintains the closest relationship with all other apparent noumenal entities, so-called noumenal entities, and those so-called noumenal entities maintain a link with each and every expression of this universe. This indirect link of the noumenal entity is called Prota Yoga in Samskrta. That is, whatever you are doing is indirectly known to Him through your direct noumenal entity. And not only that, He keeps a direct relationship with you also. “Today we will decorate the hall in a very nice way, as is done in the case of DMC.”

[laughter]
COMMENT: At this point in the discourse those present start laughing because Baba has just now revealed exactly what certain margiis thought hours earlier when they were decorating the hall. They were expressing their hope that Baba would declare DMC: “Today we will decorate the hall in a very nice way, as is done in the case of DMC”. Yet just now in the discourse, hours after the fact, He is perfectly replicating what they thought. So it is only because of His all-knowing personae that He is aware of exactly what they thought. By this action, He is directly revealing that He is that omniscient, Divine Entity who maintains a link with every noumenal entity, both individually and collectively. He is proving that He is linked with everyone - everywhere.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

“And when Bábá will see these things, [laughing] He will say, ‘Let there be DMC.’”

[laughter]
COMMENT: By this above phrase, Baba again reveals that He knows exactly what those margiis thought about Him hours earlier when they were decorating the hall. That is why everyone is again laughing. Because they understand that Baba is speaking verbatim what those margiis were thinking earlier in the day. By this demonstration Baba is revealing that He is the all-knowing Parama Purusa. Those who were in doubt about His real identity are now convinced that Baba is Parama Purusa.

"See, these things have got direct reflection on the, what? Not on your apparent noumenal entity, but directly on the Supreme hub, directly on the Supreme noumenal entity. And He will say, “Let me satisfy those little boys and girls—”

[laughter]
COMMENT: Here again those margiis are laughing because they understand that Baba is directly showing them that He is that Supreme Hub, i.e. Parama Purusa, and that the entire mental plate of every apparent noumenal entity, i.e. every jiivatman is reflected in His mind.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

“—by declaring a subject of discourse.”

[laughter]
COMMENT: By declaring a subject of discourse, Baba has formally declared that this will be DMC, thereby satisfying the unspoken desires of those Ananda Margiis who decorated the hall. All are laughing because Baba has perfectly depicted the scene that took place hours earlier and now He is fulfilling their request.

"The link, you see, one indirect link with each and every entity, through so many noumenal entities; another direct link with each and every individual, from a mammoth to a blade of grass. So a mammoth cannot move without His grace, and a blade of grass also cannot move without His approval. And this shows that He maintains a link with each and every entity."
(3)

COMMENT: Here above Baba is revealing to certain bhaktas that He is that Parama Purusa who maintains a personal link with every unit being, i.e. jiivatman or noumenal entity in this cosmos through His ota yoga. As the Parama Purusa, Baba sees everyone, everywhere all the time. There is not a thought, syllable, or action that He is not aware of - and He has made His bhaktas aware in their heart that on this very occasion by precisely detailing the thoughts and desires of those margiis decorating the hall. This is an example of His subtle way of hinting to His bhaktas that He is that divine, all-knowing Divine Entity.

The printed version of that same passage

Ananda Marga ideology states, "You know, the Supreme noumenal entity maintains the closest relationship with all other apparent noumenal entities, the so-called noumenal entities, and those so-called noumenal entities maintain a link with each and every expression of this universe. This indirect link of the noumenal entity is called Prota Yoga in saḿskrta. That is, whatever you are doing is indirectly known to Him through your direct noumenal entity. And not only that, He keeps a direct relationship with you also."
"“Today we will decorate the hall in a very nice way, as is done in the case of DMC. And when Bábá will see those things, He will say, ‘Let there be DMC.’” See, these things have a direct reflection, not on your apparent noumenal entity, but directly on the Supreme hub, directly on the Supreme noumenal entity. And He will say, “Let me satisfy those little boys and girls by declaring a subject of discourse.”" (4)

The above yellow italicised section is the "as is" version of the discourse. In the book edition cited directly above, those publishers did not indicate that bhaktas were laughing. I shall leave it to them to explain why they did like this, as that is not the main point of this letter.

Bhakti of A-grade bhakta

“D́akiya gechi bhaviya gechi, bhalobesechi tomare...” (Prabhat Samgiita #4227)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa in Your mercy, I keep calling You, remembering You. I weep in longing for You. O' my Dearmost, I love you so much. In Your meditation, in Your manan, my eyes shower for You, all the time.

O’ my Divine Companion, I shed tears for You and call You with a deep yearning: “O’ my Most Intimate, who resides in the inner core of my heart, please make my mind resplendent. Whatever I think should be reflected in all that I do in the external world. There should be perfect parallelism between my thoughts and actions. In making my heart pure, please remain in that abode, day and night - always.”

O’ Supreme Entity, by Your grace the darkness of the black fog has vanished. In the new dawn, the crimson sun is smiling. My mental peacock is dancing in bliss — spreading out its gorgeous feathers and extending its wings, encompassing the line of the vast horizon. Everything is ready and has been arranged for Your divine reception.

O’ Parama Purusa, You are mine and mine alone...

How yoga postures keep the spine flexible

The following is an English summary of Baba’s original teaching given in Bangla in Shabda Cayanika part 8:
When calcium builds up and gets deposited in the back it becomes hard. That is why when people are very young then their backbone is quite flexible but due to an accumulation of calcium over just a few years then by the time they are teen-agers already their spinal column has become stiff and rigid.

Doing noakasana, utkata paschimottanasana, and shalabasana etc eliminates the possibility of developing a hunched back. So those doing hard manual labor that demands bending the back for extended periods of time should do these aforementioned asanas on a regular basis. That will prevent them from suffering from hunch-back in the future. (English Summary)

Mahaprayan of one margii

Baba

Mahaprayan of one margii

Namaskar,

It is with much sadness that we share the news of the mahaprayan of Shrii Vinay Kumar Gupta of Bettiah. All who knew Vinay ji remember him as a longtime, senior margii committed to the teachings of Ananda Marga and dedicated to Sadguru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji.

Here are some of the highlights about Shrii Vinay Kumar Gupta's life:
  • His father, Ram Chandra, was one of the first margiis of Bettiah. And his entire family were margiis.
  • Shrii Vinay ji himself was one of the pillars of Ananda Marga in Bettiah (Bihar). He served as both unit secretary and bhukti pradhan.
  • He always participated in all big and small Marga activities and programs, and always engaged in philanthropic work and social service projects.
  • He help financially to construct the dhyan mandira (jagrti) Narkatiya Ganj, which was the headquarters of a block outside Bettiah.
  • He was a great bhakta - very strong-minded and trustworthy and worked hard to establish Ananda Marga ideology.
  • He lived at Ilam Ram Chowk Bettiah, West Champaran
He underwent his mahaprayan on 02 November and his cremation will take place on 03 November at 9am IST. With his mahaprayan, Shrii Vinay will be greatly missed by many in our AM society.

May we all take solace in the fact that our dear elder brother Vinay ji was a bhakta of Sadguru Baba. Certainly he will attain mukti or moksa, accordingly. Baba will lovingly bestow His infinite grace.

at the lotus feet of Baba,
Dhyanesh

~ In-depth study ~

We have seen that when somebody dies then in offering their condolences people say now Mr So-and-so is sitting on Baba's lap. On other occasions when telling a Baba story people also say, "Such and such person sat on Baba's lap." But these days the trend is that "sitting on Baba's lap" is used more in connection with death. And that causes some confusion in reader's mind. To unknot the situation please read below.

Dogma: if "on Baba's lap" only used for death

Here are quoted lines from recently posted emails on various forums, wherein the writer uses the phrase - "in Baba's lap" - with the occasion of death:

- "May Parama Purusa Baba accept her in HIS divine lap"

- "May his soul rest in the lap of our beloved BABA"

- "Now she is taking rest in Baba's Lap."

- "May Baba accept him in HIS divine lap....."

- "May he rest in HIS loving lap of eternity."

- "We are sure that Baba has taken him in His loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in Baba's lap forever."

- "Let her rest peacefully in Baba's Lap - which she always desired."

- "now he is in beloved Baba's lap"

- "May his soul get peaceful place in His lap"

- "He is now in Bábá's loving lap"

- "May Baba bless him with a seat in His lap."

- "May BABA accept him in HIS divine lap!"

- "May Baba take him in his eternal loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in peace taking shelter in Baba's lap."

- "Please keep him on Your lap forever."

- "We all collectively pray to Baba to take him on Baba's divine lap forever.”

All of the above lines are commonly written in eulogizing the deceased. These days mostly it is used in a eulogy and rarely used to recount one's intimate spiritual experiences - unfortunately. By this way, the phrase "in Baba's lap" is being misused and step by step the real meaning is being forgotten as now people more commonly use the phrase to eulogize those who have died, and much less so to express their inner feelings of bhakti. Unfortunately, the meaning and inner spirit of the phrase is getting lost.

Baba story: "sitting on Baba's lap"

Some time ago after dharmacakra, a senior margii was recounting his experiences of having dharma samiiksa with Baba. He said, "After being lovingly scolded by Baba for my wrongdoings, then He called me close and placed me on His lap - I remained there for some time soaking up His love - and He blessed me."

We all enjoyed hearing about his personal account with Baba during dharma samiiksa. When he finished telling his factual and historical event, there was a call for questions. Various people posed their queries. Towards the end, one new margii raised his hand and asked, "How did Baba bring you back to life?"

Everyone stared at the new margii in amazement. There was a look of astonishment all around - people were really shocked to hear him say this. The new sadhaka sensed that something was wrong He said very matter-of-factly, "I thought that sitting on Baba's Lap means that he (the margii) died - that is why I asked that question."

This was quite eye-opening for those of us in the room: Through our language and expression we had unknowingly taught someone to think that being on Baba's lap is the equivalent of death. Because it seems that nowadays people only use the phrase "Baba's lap" when a person has died, such as "Let him rest peacefully in Baba's lap", as if in order to sit on Baba’s lap one has to die. But that is false. Sincere sadhakas regularly sit on Baba’s lap in their meditation. It is His grace. It is just like a child need not die in order to sit on his father’s lap.

The idea is that this phrase - Baba's lap - has been linked with death due to extreme overuse. So for some time if sadhakas use this phrase exclusively for spiritual purposes, that will be best. The phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", should not meet a similar fate. It should not lose its pure spiritual quality and just refer to one's death. That will be very negative.

Baba would bless bhaktas and place them on His lap

There are tens of thousands of recorded stories by sadhakas where they use the phrase, "on Baba's lap", when describing their experiences of being with Baba: He used to bless them and bring them on His lap. People should understand the deeply mystical value of this expression, and not just think that Baba's lap means death, i.e. that you can only sit on His lap at the time of death. Still today there are thousands of margiis walking this earth who sat in Baba's lap. And not only that, there are countless more sadhakas who were blessed by Baba in dreams and sadhana wherein they sat in His lap. And still today this deeply intimate experience is attainable by sadhakas, by His grace.

There are so many ways an aspirant can reach unto Baba's lap including in sadhana. That is the main idea that should be preserved. Sadhana is a spiritual practice and one can sit on Baba's lap in sadhana. We should make it cent-per-cent clear to one and all that the phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", does not mean death.

"Mahaprayan" means death of mortals - confirm for yourself
from the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary

Mahaprayan (Death): Many are aware that mahaprayan (death) is the common term used in India and especially in our Bengal to describe the death of any human being, even ordinary people. In that way, the obituary columns of the newspapers of Bengal regularly cite the mahaprayan (death) of various persons of society who died or passed away.

Some may get confused and wrongly think that the word 'mahaprayan' (death) is one extraordinarily term of bhakti to be used in association with Parama Purusa. But that is not at all the case. Rather to do so is only to undermine the eternal presence of Parama Purusa. That is why no bhaktas ever use the word 'mahaprayan' in reference to Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna. Because Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna exist eternally. Then there is no question of Their mahaprayan (death).

Baba is Parama Purusa so He is eternal and there is no question of His mahaprayan.

Here it should be known that the convention of an annual death day ceremony (i.e. shraddhainjali or mahaprayan) is a foundation of the Islamic tradition. Muslims are well known for this, and their approach of an annual death day ceremony was adopted by the leader of a particular group in AMPS. So no one should think that mahaprayan is some type of sacred event. It is done on the death day anniversary of Muslims.

And for those who need still more technical proof then all this can be clarified quite readily by referencing the dictionary. Specifically in the Samsad Bengali-English dictionary 3rd edition on page 848. Checking there it will be confirmed that the word 'mahaprayan' means death. Which is why it is used to refer to the passing away of even common citizens. And that is the case in this letter also. The term mahaprayan means death and this is the ideal term for this purpose.

Mahaprayan is only for humans not for Sadguru

Here it should be qualified that there is both real mahaprayan and fake mahaprayan. Real mahaprayan marks the death of any ordinary human being, just like the aforesaid news. This is the proper use of the term: To note a person's departure from this earth. That is the meaning of the mahaprayan term and that is the standard way the term is used in Indian languages.

Then there is the fake, or so-called, or dogmatic mahaprayan. That is when certain vested interests try to apply the mahaprayan term to Parama Purusa. This is grossly inappropriate because when Parama Purusa Sadguru Baba is that Divine Entity who is beginningless and endless and resides always in our heart, then it is entirely wrong to proclaim that He is gone.

That is why rational margiis are protesting; because the Oct 21st program is so-called mahaprayan. So-called means that something is fake. Parama Purusa is eternal, thus for some vested interests to declare "mahaprayan of Parama Purusa" is nothing but so-called mahaprayan.

Mahaprayan only really happens in the case of human beings, not Parama Purusa. Those doing mahaprayan for Sadguru are hypocrites. On the one side in meditation they ask His grace thinking that He is ever-present, and on the other side they think that Baba has passed way. That is their hypocrisy.
