Present & future humans + 2 more

Baba

Present & future humans

 Namaskar,

The work of Saguna Brahma is related with srsti - creation: To present more and more created beings into this manifested cosmos. Now, however, with the advancement of science, laboratory specialists are taking over that work, day by day.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Already laboratory babes are being produced. Scientists take one ovum and spermatozoa and combine them in the lab. In that process of fusion, the two initial cells die and an entirely new third entity is created. That is the initial stage of a human life; at that very juncture mind is attached with that entity. And then that newly created being is inserted into the womb of a surrogate mother.

When Baba delivered this discourse in 1958 the aforesaid process was unthinkable. Yet what Baba told has now become a living reality here in earth. Scientists have made such advancements. Now, people are ordering babies according to their liking. Some parents want a mixed baby with certain Asian physical features, along with the height of a Scandinavian etc. In this way, people are designing and ordering their babies. And then scientists get the relevant ovum and spermatozoa from those human communities and join those cells in the lab.

They even know how to remove particular genes that produce dangerous diseases. And verily this science will continue to develop and become more widely used around the globe. In this way, humans are taking over the work that is normally done by Saguna Brahma.

Verily we have witnessed the dramatic impact humans have made with dog breeding. Each year they are combining favourable breeds of dogs to make an entirely new breed. In this way, humans are introducing new and newer beings into creation. In the past this was all done by allowing prakrti to exert her influence over Saguna Brahma. In that way so many shapes and forms were created in this world: Rivers, mountains, oceans, animals, and human beings.

And in another discourse, Baba guides us that as human intuition develops, those human beings will know more and more. And when they meet others they will be able to see each others past lives - stretching back several incarnations - and know what they were and from where they came.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Humans will even be able to restore life to dead bodies

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Science is moving fast – it is moving ahead and it will continue to move ahead. Nobody can check the advancement of science by criticizing it. Those who try to make such attempts will themselves lag behind – they will be rejected by the modern world."
"Human beings will definitely be able to increase human longevity by scientific techniques. In certain special cases they will even be able to restore life to dead bodies. The endeavour to expedite the advent of that auspicious day of science is certainly an important part of social service."
"One day human beings will also learn how to produce human babes in science laboratories. Perhaps then it will be possible for human beings to place an order for their children and to get children according to their choice. Why should these laboratory babes lag behind modern humans with respect to intellectual and spiritual wealth! Those opposed to science today challenge, “Let human beings demonstrate that they can produce living entities!” By producing laboratory babes, the human beings of the future will give a befitting reply to this challenge."
"The development of intuition will make human beings more spiritually inclined. What Saguńa Brahma [the Qualified Supreme Entity] is directly doing today will be done increasingly by the human beings of tomorrow. In that age the reproductive capacity of the human body will gradually cease to exist." (1)

Beyond the seven oceans where the blackness & effulgence meet

"Kálo jetháy áloy meshe,sát ságar páre..." (Prabhat Samgiita #1867)

Purport:

After crossing the seven oceans, the seven lokas (bhú, bhuvah, svah, maha, jana, tapah, and satya) [1], there is a land where the blackness and effulgence meet: the world of immortality. At that tangential place, my Bandhu [2] is their, I will meet Him.

(This above first stanza carries a deeply philosophical and spiritual meaning. The basic idea is that beyond the seven lokas -  bhú, bhuvah, svah, maha, jana, tapah, and satya - there is a heavenly abode. On the path of sadhana and with the grace of the Supreme, mind of a sadhaka can cross the seven spheres and reach the Parama Purusa.) [3]

O’ Parama Purusa, Your and my intimate closeness, benevolence, and affection have been present since eternity. This relation of ours is beyond the relative factors of time, space, and person. Our personal link knows no bounds; it is not subject to any limitations. During my entire movement through saincara and pratisaincara always You are with me. O’ Parama Purusa, You alone are my eternal Companion. Everything else in this mobile universe comes and goes. Under the ignorance of avidya maya I foolishly depended on worldly things, thinking those transitory items will be with me up to infinity. Now the awareness has come, by Your grace, and I understand that everything in this expressed world is ephemeral. You are showering Your compassion always. No one will ever be able to hinder our connection. Even the vast, boundless ocean of avidya maya cannot create obstacles in our relation. It is Your grace.

O’ Parama Purusa, I was Yours then, and that still today I am Yours. So many lifetimes have passed and all along I was under Your shelter, in the past and at present also. But sometimes I was captivated by my blind attachments. I temporarily lost the path of dharma and got caught in the net of avidya maya. That was my darkest hour.  Baba, please colour me by spreading the pollen of Your heart, Your unfathomable prema. O' my Nearest One, love me so much that Your kindness dominates my entire existence; by Your mercy, I will not get lured or attracted by anything else...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #1867:

Satya loka

[1] Satya loka: Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Satya Loka – all the three guńas are present in this loka but they are dormant. In this loka only Parama Puruśa exists; the guńas exist only in dormant state just as in Nirguńa Brahma. Thus, in this universe there are seven spheres of Sapta Lokátmaka. Six of them possess qualities while the seventh is the state of Nirguńa Brahma, without any qualities.”

Ananda Marga philosophy states,  “The unit consciousness or jiiva needs an ádhára: without any ádhára it would merge in the ocean of Brahma. The water in a bowl placed in a pond retains its individual identity only until the bowl is broken – then the water contained in it loses its individual identity and merges in the pond water which surrounds it. Hence as long as the saḿskáras are present, an ádhára is necessary to maintain one’s identity. Without any ádhára the átman will merge with Brahma. The five kośas plus the physical body are as follows: Annamaya Kośa – This crudest layer is the physical body which is made of the five fundamental factors and is dependent on food for its maintenance. This is the crudest shell around átman. In this Kośa tamah is dominant; rajah is less and sattva is least. This annamaya kośa is derived from the Bhúr loka of the cosmic mind.
Kámamaya Kośa – This crude mental body is derived from Bhúvar Loka of the cosmic mind; it operates the body and is subtler than the crude physical body. In this kośa, tamah is dominant, sattva is less and rajah is least.”

“Manomaya Kośa – is derived from the next higher loka of the cosmic mind, the Svarloka or Manomaya loka which is the pure mental body of the cosmic mind. It is in this loka that saḿskáras is experienced, and also pleasure and pain. In the Manomaya Kośa, rajah is dominant; tamah is less and sattva is least.”

“Atimánas Kośa – this layer is derived from the Mahar loka or supramental body of the cosmic mind. It is in this kośa that the saḿskáras originates. The difference between the good and the bad saḿskáras is also seen in this Kośa. Here Rajah is dominant; sattva is less and tamah is least.”

“Vijiṋánamaya Kośa – This layer is derived from Janar loka of the cosmic mind. In this kośa exists the knowledge of existenc, the knowledge of “I”. Here also vaerágya and viveka are found, and this kośa the desire for sadhaná arises. Here sattva is dominant; tamah is less and rajah is least.”

“Hirańmaya Kośa – in this kośa the body even the knowledge of “I” is not much in evidence the consciousness of individuality is present, ill defined and unclear. This is the subtlest layer of mind around the átman. In fact feeling of “I” is reflective in this kośa only because of its close proximity to the vijiṋánamaya kośa. Here sattva is dominant, rajah is less and tamah is least.”
Hirańmaye pare kośe
Virajaḿ Brahma niśkalam

– Vedas
Ananda Marga philosophy states,  “This kośa is derived from the Tapah or Hiranmaya loka; its name means “made of gold” and hence it is as pure and beautiful as gold. The Satya Loka which is the finest loka in the cosmic mind and where Brahma resides does not exist in the form of a kośa because kośas are limited while satya is unlimited and imperishable. Satya loka cannot therefore be part of any limited and perishable body formed of five kośas. In Satya loka the átman alone exists; only due to the influence of Prakrti five kośas or realms come into existence.”

“In Brahma due to the influence of Prakrti, the universe of seven lokas or saptalokátmaka jagat are formed, while in the unit consciousness, the five kośas come into existence. In other words, in Brahma there are seven realms or seven lokas while in the unit entities there are five layers or kośas. One body composed of the five fundamental factors, ten indriyas and five tanmátras make up an individual’s Brahmáńd́a (literally “universe”).” (1)

[2] Bandhu: This is one of the names of Parama Purusa, i.e. the Eternal Companion who stays with you even after death. Here below are some of Guru’s teachings on the term bandhu.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “What is the meaning of “bandhu”? In Saḿskrta, the meaning of the word “bandhu” is “to bind”. Bandhu indicates that person or entity who cannot stand separation. Parama Puruśa or Saguńa Brahma is closely and intimately connected with this expressed world, or jagata. He is pervasively connected with every individual entity, be it a living being or a crude object. He is also linked through and through with the universe as a whole. In other words, He is indissolubly and inextricably involved (ota prota) with everything. Therefore, He is the only bandhu of this universe. The rest of your bandhus in the physical world are not your eternal friends. Though they are with you now, a day will soon come when they will go away; they will be separated from you. When you depart from this world, these friends will accompany or carry your dead body. But how far will they accompany you? They will accompany your body up to the cremation ground or the burning ghat. Having gone so far, at the most they will return to their own dwelling places. So they are not your real bandhu. There is a shloka in Saḿskrta:”

    Atyágasahano bandhu sadaevánumatah suhrd;
    Eka kryaḿ bhavenmitraḿ samapráńáh sakhásmrtah.

“He who loves [[so much that]] he can never sustain the grief of separation, is known as “bandhu”. In this sense, nobody can have any bandhu in this world. Only that Jagatabandhu – that Parama Puruśa – can be your bandhu. No one else is your bandhu. Only He is your real friend.” (2)

[3] This following teaching provides insight into the deeply philosophical meaning of the first stanza of the above Prabhat Samgiita.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “There are seven lokas in the ascending order – Bhú, Bhuvah, Svah, Maha, Jana, Tapah and Satya – there are seven lokas in descending order – Bhú, Tala, Atala, Talátala, Pátála, Atipátála and Rasátala.” (3)

Told to bhaktas only + 3 More

Baba

Told to bhaktas only

Namaskar,

Those days, we can say that there were essentially two broad categories of bhaktas: Those who were like Sudama and those who were like Arjuna. Sudama had full feeling and unwavering belief that Lord Krsna is Parama Purusa.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Openly announced about Himself

From hour to hour and year to year, always Sudama held the realisation in his heart and mind that Lord Krsna is God. In contrast, Arjuna did not have full faith that Lord Krsna is Parama Purusa. Arjuna's mind was always riddled with doubt. To remove Arjuna's doubts, Lord Krsna had to show His vishvarupa (universal form). Then Arjuna's mind became convinced.

To satisfy all those bhaktas who suffered from similar doubts, on various occasions, Lord Krsna openly proclaimed Himself as the Divine Entity using very direct language.
Mama vartmánu varttante manuśyáh Pártha sarvashah
"'If people resort to the path that I show they are sure to attain salvation in the end...I will liberate You'." (1)

And in another shloka Lord Krsna has proclaimed:
Paritráńáya sádhúnáḿ vinásháya ca duśkrtám;
Dharmasaḿsthápanártháya sambhavámi yuge yuge.
"'I incarnate Myself in this world from age to age for the annihilation of the wicked and the protection of the virtuous'." (2)

Why Lord Ksna was very direct about His status

Lord Krsna was very forthright and direct in telling those bhaktas about His divine status. In that era of old, the people were very simple. They did not resort to lying or bragging. What they were, they spoke; and what others said, they believed. Because nobody was falsely telling about their own greatness. People were very straightforward where they would matter-of-factly speak of their status. That was the social norm. Accordingly, Lord Krsna told to those around Him that He was the Parama Purusa. And the people had full faith and trust on what He told. By this way those Arjuna type of people got the support they needed to be strict on the point of Ista, i.e. accepting Lord Krsna as Parama Purusa. That was 3500 years ago.

Around 2000 years ago, a different era took hold on this earth. In that time there were numerous people claiming to be the incarnation of God, the son of God, or the divine messenger of God etc. There was no shortage of such persons who were indulged in this type of self-glorification. This type of mentality did not exist earlier. But it was this mindset that gave rise to the birth of the Semitic religions - where such claims are the sole basis for the existence of that religion.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

All brag about their own inflated greatness

In this present era, the collective psychology has slid further down this continuum of decline and degradation. Everyone is prone towards inflating their own personality. This is the common trend where people eagerly and anxiously speak about their own "greatness" and "extraordinary talents." A person who has read 4 books will proclaim himself to be a scholar; an athlete will proclaim himself to be a demi-god, and verily nearly everyone props themselves up to be something they are not. In turn, others do not believe what a person proclaims. They do not take it at face value, or any value. Because self-glorification and hypocrisy are rampant.

This was perhaps the main reason why Baba did not openly proclaim to one and all that, "I am Parama Purusa." Because society was not ready to take it in the right way.

However, He did graciously present Himself to His bhaktas - in various ways: Dreams, sadhana, personal contact (PC), in dharma samiiksa, reporting, demonstrations, dhyana, discourses, and numerous ways. About this, each and every sadhaka has their own personal story to tell. This was all done exclusively for the welfare of the bhakta. Parama Purusa has nothing to gain in this regard. So this was the unique and special opportunity for each sadhaka to advance on the spiritual path by developing a personal link with Him. In sum, we can say that it was nothing but His ahaetuki krpa (causeless grace).

So the fact that He is Parama Purusa was made known to bhaktas only - not to members of the general society. Higher sadhaka, through their spiritual approach coupled with His grace, can intuitively feel in their heart and mind that Baba is Parama Purusa. And for those new margiis who need external support, Baba has graciously shown them in their heart that He is Parama Purusa. This has occurred through DMC, general darshan and  in front of other margiis etc.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

The best way: through sadhana

There are various grades of sadhakas on the path of Ananda Marga. Some have been blessed to intuitively feel in their heart that Baba is Parama Purusa; and, others need external support and evidence, from time to time, to remind them of this eternal truth.

All along, it must be borne in mind that the only way to truly feel that Baba is Parama Purusa is through sadhana. Only with that inner realisation can the mind wholeheartedly embrace this supreme truth. If anyone relies exclusively on external reminders or outer suggestions, that will not work. When tough times arise they will run from the field, and if someone offers a contrary view of Baba and / or Ananda Marga they will easily be swayed. So the only way to be firmly rooted in Ananda Marga tantra yoga is through sadhana. Then only will one truly realise that Baba is Parama Purusa. Keeping this view in mind, please read the following.

So many ways Baba reveals Himself to bhaktas

Sometimes a few new Ananda Margiis have doubts about Baba's real identity. To be caught in such a dilemma is not good for any sadhaka.

For this reason, in a very loving and personal manner, Baba graciously shows those sadhakas through dharma samiikas, PC, and reporting etc, how He is always with them, watching them, protecting them. This is the very basis of bhakti: Feeling in one's heart that Parama Purusa is always present, always with me. So for a bhakta to intimately understand that Baba is that very Parama Purusa is everything. By this way one feels that they are never alone or helpless, as Baba is always there, lovingly showering His grace.

And there are countless ways by which Baba brings His bhaktas close. Some see Him in dreams, others in dhyana, and still others gain an understanding of His Divine grandeur through PC, demonstrations, varabhaya mudra, experiences with microvita or dharma samiiksa, kiirtan, blessings, discourses, and so many ways. On this matter, on this journey of finding that inner link with Him, each and every bhakta has their own personal account and experience. Somehow, some way, they came to understand how Baba is always with them, caring for them.

And that He sees everything. He sees their smiles and their tears, their joys and sorrow, their past mistakes and their future glory. Then the entire concept of Parama Purusa as a Personal God is no longer just a figment of philosophy but rather a practical, heart-felt experience.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Conclusion

Verily this is the speciality of Ananda Marga. Every sadhaka feels they have their own special link with the Divine Entity. This is dramatically different from the various religions who feel that God is but a vision in the distant sky who sternly looks down upon them, or the various other paths that state that the divine is nothingness itself or beyond one's reach in this lifetime.

Ananda Marga is the path of bliss: Realising the very practical notion that Baba is the Parama Purusa who resides in the heart, watching everything, showering His love, and keeping us under His divine shelter. Baba did not beat the drum about His divine advent because He did not want worthless people crowding around Him while bhaktas are pushed aside. So He brought bhaktas close and allotted His work to them.

Baba may not have announced His Divine Presence to the world. Yet certainly He has shown Himself to each and every sadhaka. And by this way, His disciples develop firm faith in Ista, bask in His divine bliss, and sit on His lap. It is truly His grace.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Citsvarup

To general people and common society Baba hid Himself through various liila and played the role of a most ordinary human being whereas for bhaktas He revealed everything in so many ways. Nobody can understand that liila of Parama purusa

Scene at DMC:
Baba shows how He is Supreme Noumenal Entity, Supreme Hub

Here is an example of Baba directly indicating to few margiis that He is the omniscient Parama Purusa. In the following scene from DMC in Timmern, Germany (1979), Baba graciously shows Himself as Parama Purusa, and thus clears the doubts of certain Ananda Margiis. How does He do this? With His all-knowing mind He uncovers what a few margiis thought while decorating the hall - even though He was not present at that time. This shows that He is that Divine Omnipresent Personality - the Parama Purusa.

Here is a closer look at this exact scene from that DMC.

"You know, the Supreme noumenal entity maintains the closest relationship with all other apparent noumenal entities, so-called noumenal entities, and those so-called noumenal entities maintain a link with each and every expression of this universe. This indirect link of the noumenal entity is called Prota Yoga in Samskrta. That is, whatever you are doing is indirectly known to Him through your direct noumenal entity. And not only that, He keeps a direct relationship with you also. “Today we will decorate the hall in a very nice way, as is done in the case of DMC.”

[laughter]
COMMENT: At this point in the discourse those present start laughing because Baba has just now revealed exactly what certain margiis thought hours earlier when they were decorating the hall. They were expressing their hope that Baba would declare DMC: “Today we will decorate the hall in a very nice way, as is done in the case of DMC”. Yet just now in the discourse, hours after the fact, He is perfectly replicating what they thought. So it is only because of His all-knowing personae that He is aware of exactly what they thought. By this action, He is directly revealing that He is that omniscient, Divine Entity who maintains a link with every noumenal entity, both individually and collectively. He is proving that He is linked with everyone - everywhere.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

“And when Bábá will see these things, [laughing] He will say, ‘Let there be DMC.’”

[laughter]
COMMENT: By this above phrase, Baba again reveals that He knows exactly what those margiis thought about Him hours earlier when they were decorating the hall. That is why everyone is again laughing. Because they understand that Baba is speaking verbatim what those margiis were thinking earlier in the day. By this demonstration Baba is revealing that He is the all-knowing Parama Purusa. Those who were in doubt about His real identity are now convinced that Baba is Parama Purusa.

"See, these things have got direct reflection on the, what? Not on your apparent noumenal entity, but directly on the Supreme hub, directly on the Supreme noumenal entity. And He will say, “Let me satisfy those little boys and girls—”

[laughter]
COMMENT: Here again those margiis are laughing because they understand that Baba is directly showing them that He is that Supreme Hub, i.e. Parama Purusa, and that the entire mental plate of every apparent noumenal entity, i.e. every jiivatman is reflected in His mind.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

“—by declaring a subject of discourse.”

[laughter]
COMMENT: By declaring a subject of discourse, Baba has formally declared that this will be DMC, thereby satisfying the unspoken desires of those Ananda Margiis who decorated the hall. All are laughing because Baba has perfectly depicted the scene that took place hours earlier and now He is fulfilling their request.

"The link, you see, one indirect link with each and every entity, through so many noumenal entities; another direct link with each and every individual, from a mammoth to a blade of grass. So a mammoth cannot move without His grace, and a blade of grass also cannot move without His approval. And this shows that He maintains a link with each and every entity."
(3)

COMMENT: Here above Baba is revealing to certain bhaktas that He is that Parama Purusa who maintains a personal link with every unit being, i.e. jiivatman or noumenal entity in this cosmos through His ota yoga. As the Parama Purusa, Baba sees everyone, everywhere all the time. There is not a thought, syllable, or action that He is not aware of - and He has made His bhaktas aware in their heart that on this very occasion by precisely detailing the thoughts and desires of those margiis decorating the hall. This is an example of His subtle way of hinting to His bhaktas that He is that divine, all-knowing Divine Entity.

The printed version of that same passage

Ananda Marga ideology states, "You know, the Supreme noumenal entity maintains the closest relationship with all other apparent noumenal entities, the so-called noumenal entities, and those so-called noumenal entities maintain a link with each and every expression of this universe. This indirect link of the noumenal entity is called Prota Yoga in saḿskrta. That is, whatever you are doing is indirectly known to Him through your direct noumenal entity. And not only that, He keeps a direct relationship with you also."
"“Today we will decorate the hall in a very nice way, as is done in the case of DMC. And when Bábá will see those things, He will say, ‘Let there be DMC.’” See, these things have a direct reflection, not on your apparent noumenal entity, but directly on the Supreme hub, directly on the Supreme noumenal entity. And He will say, “Let me satisfy those little boys and girls by declaring a subject of discourse.”" (4)

The above yellow italicised section is the "as is" version of the discourse. In the book edition cited directly above, those publishers did not indicate that bhaktas were laughing. I shall leave it to them to explain why they did like this, as that is not the main point of this letter.

Bhakti of A-grade bhakta

“D́akiya gechi bhaviya gechi, bhalobesechi tomare...” (Prabhat Samgiita #4227)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa in Your mercy, I keep calling You, remembering You. I weep in longing for You. O' my Dearmost, I love you so much. In Your meditation, in Your manan, my eyes shower for You, all the time.

O’ my Divine Companion, I shed tears for You and call You with a deep yearning: “O’ my Most Intimate, who resides in the inner core of my heart, please make my mind resplendent. Whatever I think should be reflected in all that I do in the external world. There should be perfect parallelism between my thoughts and actions. In making my heart pure, please remain in that abode, day and night - always.”

O’ Supreme Entity, by Your grace the darkness of the black fog has vanished. In the new dawn, the crimson sun is smiling. My mental peacock is dancing in bliss — spreading out its gorgeous feathers and extending its wings, encompassing the line of the vast horizon. Everything is ready and has been arranged for Your divine reception.

O’ Parama Purusa, You are mine and mine alone...

How yoga postures keep the spine flexible

The following is an English summary of Baba’s original teaching given in Bangla in Shabda Cayanika part 8:
When calcium builds up and gets deposited in the back it becomes hard. That is why when people are very young then their backbone is quite flexible but due to an accumulation of calcium over just a few years then by the time they are teen-agers already their spinal column has become stiff and rigid.

Doing noakasana, utkata paschimottanasana, and shalabasana etc eliminates the possibility of developing a hunched back. So those doing hard manual labor that demands bending the back for extended periods of time should do these aforementioned asanas on a regular basis. That will prevent them from suffering from hunch-back in the future. (English Summary)

Mahaprayan of one margii

Baba

Mahaprayan of one margii

Namaskar,

It is with much sadness that we share the news of the mahaprayan of Shrii Vinay Kumar Gupta of Bettiah. All who knew Vinay ji remember him as a longtime, senior margii committed to the teachings of Ananda Marga and dedicated to Sadguru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji.

Here are some of the highlights about Shrii Vinay Kumar Gupta's life:
  • His father, Ram Chandra, was one of the first margiis of Bettiah. And his entire family were margiis.
  • Shrii Vinay ji himself was one of the pillars of Ananda Marga in Bettiah (Bihar). He served as both unit secretary and bhukti pradhan.
  • He always participated in all big and small Marga activities and programs, and always engaged in philanthropic work and social service projects.
  • He help financially to construct the dhyan mandira (jagrti) Narkatiya Ganj, which was the headquarters of a block outside Bettiah.
  • He was a great bhakta - very strong-minded and trustworthy and worked hard to establish Ananda Marga ideology.
  • He lived at Ilam Ram Chowk Bettiah, West Champaran
He underwent his mahaprayan on 02 November and his cremation will take place on 03 November at 9am IST. With his mahaprayan, Shrii Vinay will be greatly missed by many in our AM society.

May we all take solace in the fact that our dear elder brother Vinay ji was a bhakta of Sadguru Baba. Certainly he will attain mukti or moksa, accordingly. Baba will lovingly bestow His infinite grace.

at the lotus feet of Baba,
Dhyanesh

~ In-depth study ~

We have seen that when somebody dies then in offering their condolences people say now Mr So-and-so is sitting on Baba's lap. On other occasions when telling a Baba story people also say, "Such and such person sat on Baba's lap." But these days the trend is that "sitting on Baba's lap" is used more in connection with death. And that causes some confusion in reader's mind. To unknot the situation please read below.

Dogma: if "on Baba's lap" only used for death

Here are quoted lines from recently posted emails on various forums, wherein the writer uses the phrase - "in Baba's lap" - with the occasion of death:

- "May Parama Purusa Baba accept her in HIS divine lap"

- "May his soul rest in the lap of our beloved BABA"

- "Now she is taking rest in Baba's Lap."

- "May Baba accept him in HIS divine lap....."

- "May he rest in HIS loving lap of eternity."

- "We are sure that Baba has taken him in His loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in Baba's lap forever."

- "Let her rest peacefully in Baba's Lap - which she always desired."

- "now he is in beloved Baba's lap"

- "May his soul get peaceful place in His lap"

- "He is now in Bábá's loving lap"

- "May Baba bless him with a seat in His lap."

- "May BABA accept him in HIS divine lap!"

- "May Baba take him in his eternal loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in peace taking shelter in Baba's lap."

- "Please keep him on Your lap forever."

- "We all collectively pray to Baba to take him on Baba's divine lap forever.”

All of the above lines are commonly written in eulogizing the deceased. These days mostly it is used in a eulogy and rarely used to recount one's intimate spiritual experiences - unfortunately. By this way, the phrase "in Baba's lap" is being misused and step by step the real meaning is being forgotten as now people more commonly use the phrase to eulogize those who have died, and much less so to express their inner feelings of bhakti. Unfortunately, the meaning and inner spirit of the phrase is getting lost.

Baba story: "sitting on Baba's lap"

Some time ago after dharmacakra, a senior margii was recounting his experiences of having dharma samiiksa with Baba. He said, "After being lovingly scolded by Baba for my wrongdoings, then He called me close and placed me on His lap - I remained there for some time soaking up His love - and He blessed me."

We all enjoyed hearing about his personal account with Baba during dharma samiiksa. When he finished telling his factual and historical event, there was a call for questions. Various people posed their queries. Towards the end, one new margii raised his hand and asked, "How did Baba bring you back to life?"

Everyone stared at the new margii in amazement. There was a look of astonishment all around - people were really shocked to hear him say this. The new sadhaka sensed that something was wrong He said very matter-of-factly, "I thought that sitting on Baba's Lap means that he (the margii) died - that is why I asked that question."

This was quite eye-opening for those of us in the room: Through our language and expression we had unknowingly taught someone to think that being on Baba's lap is the equivalent of death. Because it seems that nowadays people only use the phrase "Baba's lap" when a person has died, such as "Let him rest peacefully in Baba's lap", as if in order to sit on Baba’s lap one has to die. But that is false. Sincere sadhakas regularly sit on Baba’s lap in their meditation. It is His grace. It is just like a child need not die in order to sit on his father’s lap.

The idea is that this phrase - Baba's lap - has been linked with death due to extreme overuse. So for some time if sadhakas use this phrase exclusively for spiritual purposes, that will be best. The phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", should not meet a similar fate. It should not lose its pure spiritual quality and just refer to one's death. That will be very negative.

Baba would bless bhaktas and place them on His lap

There are tens of thousands of recorded stories by sadhakas where they use the phrase, "on Baba's lap", when describing their experiences of being with Baba: He used to bless them and bring them on His lap. People should understand the deeply mystical value of this expression, and not just think that Baba's lap means death, i.e. that you can only sit on His lap at the time of death. Still today there are thousands of margiis walking this earth who sat in Baba's lap. And not only that, there are countless more sadhakas who were blessed by Baba in dreams and sadhana wherein they sat in His lap. And still today this deeply intimate experience is attainable by sadhakas, by His grace.

There are so many ways an aspirant can reach unto Baba's lap including in sadhana. That is the main idea that should be preserved. Sadhana is a spiritual practice and one can sit on Baba's lap in sadhana. We should make it cent-per-cent clear to one and all that the phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", does not mean death.

"Mahaprayan" means death of mortals - confirm for yourself
from the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary

Mahaprayan (Death): Many are aware that mahaprayan (death) is the common term used in India and especially in our Bengal to describe the death of any human being, even ordinary people. In that way, the obituary columns of the newspapers of Bengal regularly cite the mahaprayan (death) of various persons of society who died or passed away.

Some may get confused and wrongly think that the word 'mahaprayan' (death) is one extraordinarily term of bhakti to be used in association with Parama Purusa. But that is not at all the case. Rather to do so is only to undermine the eternal presence of Parama Purusa. That is why no bhaktas ever use the word 'mahaprayan' in reference to Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna. Because Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna exist eternally. Then there is no question of Their mahaprayan (death).

Baba is Parama Purusa so He is eternal and there is no question of His mahaprayan.

Here it should be known that the convention of an annual death day ceremony (i.e. shraddhainjali or mahaprayan) is a foundation of the Islamic tradition. Muslims are well known for this, and their approach of an annual death day ceremony was adopted by the leader of a particular group in AMPS. So no one should think that mahaprayan is some type of sacred event. It is done on the death day anniversary of Muslims.

And for those who need still more technical proof then all this can be clarified quite readily by referencing the dictionary. Specifically in the Samsad Bengali-English dictionary 3rd edition on page 848. Checking there it will be confirmed that the word 'mahaprayan' means death. Which is why it is used to refer to the passing away of even common citizens. And that is the case in this letter also. The term mahaprayan means death and this is the ideal term for this purpose.

Mahaprayan is only for humans not for Sadguru

Here it should be qualified that there is both real mahaprayan and fake mahaprayan. Real mahaprayan marks the death of any ordinary human being, just like the aforesaid news. This is the proper use of the term: To note a person's departure from this earth. That is the meaning of the mahaprayan term and that is the standard way the term is used in Indian languages.

Then there is the fake, or so-called, or dogmatic mahaprayan. That is when certain vested interests try to apply the mahaprayan term to Parama Purusa. This is grossly inappropriate because when Parama Purusa Sadguru Baba is that Divine Entity who is beginningless and endless and resides always in our heart, then it is entirely wrong to proclaim that He is gone.

That is why rational margiis are protesting; because the Oct 21st program is so-called mahaprayan. So-called means that something is fake. Parama Purusa is eternal, thus for some vested interests to declare "mahaprayan of Parama Purusa" is nothing but so-called mahaprayan.

Mahaprayan only really happens in the case of human beings, not Parama Purusa. Those doing mahaprayan for Sadguru are hypocrites. On the one side in meditation they ask His grace thinking that He is ever-present, and on the other side they think that Baba has passed way. That is their hypocrisy.

No falsehood? + 3 more

Reply to: anandamargauniversal1@yogasamsthanam.net

Baba

No falsehood?

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Preach only satya. Whatever you have done with reasons thereof. Also, make it clear to them what you want to do and why you want to do.  The result of this highly useful (helpful) preaching is that the inferiority complex disappears from the mind of the common men. They are encouraged when they see that a common man like themselves is inspired with such a high ideal. The second result of this is as follows. The common result of this is as follows. The common people are not generally aware of your usefully high ideas. In every work, big or small, they cling to selfishness. So, learning everything pure and high through your easy and simple language they will co-operate with you, with a mind free from wrong notions. The third outcome of this is that they will be shorn off the wrong notions that may have crept into them by the propaganda made by the selfish persons with vested interests."

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Win over their heart by propagating satya but without abusing anyone. When, they will feel the ideal of satya and come to know of your untiring karma sa'dhana', naturally, they will abandon their wrong notions about you; they will even start respecting you."

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Even in private life when a person behaves with you badly or uses harsh words, don't behave with him in the same manner. You shall explain to him his duties gently. In case, anyone has a wrong impression, you shall show him the right path without scolding (abusing) him. Make it clear to him if possible with practical demonstration how harmful may be the effect of such habits. But always keep this in mind that in such cases your behavior must be like that of a friend, and never like that of an instructor. Your only object will be to get your advice accepted by him. the idea that he is fool and you are wise is not desirable in any party." (1)

Pracara tips

Note: Here Baba is giving us invaluable guidelines for going pracara and bringing all onto the path of bliss.

1) At all times we should follow the code of satya - i. speaking the truth for universal welfare, never giving way to falsehood out of self-interest.

2) Those suffering from a superiority complex are unable to properly guide or teach others. For them, doing Ananda Marga pracar is basically impossible.

3) However, in the Supreme Command, Baba has allotted us the special duty "to bring all to the path of bliss" - to bring all to the divine path of Ananda Marga. So this is a very sacred task which our Guru has given. Indeed it is the greatest social duty of human life.

4) When Parama Purusa takes advent on this dusty earth then He does not waste His time in any type of material pursuit; rather, He is fully dedicated to the all-round progress and emancipation of human beings.

5) The conclusion is that the most virtuous aspect of human life is serving others. And the best service - the most lasting service - is doing dharma pracar. For this reason we should sincerely follow Baba's above guideline.

in Him,
Mayadhiisha

We cannot allow our fellow human beings to be divided

"Ma'nav sama'j avibha'jy jayga'n..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0880)

Purport:

Human society is one and indivisible - collectively we have to express this glorious ideal through song, dance, and music. We cannot allow our fellow human beings to be divided. We have to propagate the idea that all humans are one. O' my brothers and sisters, we have to march ahead and form a united human society without delay. We have to tread onwards crushing all sorts of thorns that hinder our plan and program of forming one vast human family. Those obstacles are like spikes and must be destroyed. A singular human society should be established. We have to sing His glory.

All human beings are my brothers and sisters - my own close and very intimate ones. No one is far or distant. Everyone is my kith and kin, nearest and dearest. If all human beings are moving collectively in one flow then Parama Purusa always remains with them. And He is ever-gracious. When human beings are fragmented they go far from Parama Purusa. If everyone is moving together towards Him in unison then this dusty earth will be turned into one golden paradise.

In the past we got swept away in the dogma of groupism - giving way to disparities and differences. We kept other human beings, our brothers and sisters, distant and far away - thinking that they belonged to another group. This was our ignorance. We fell into the dogma of narrow-mindedness. We degenerated into a dungeon of fissiparous tendencies - drifting far away from Baba's divine teachings of neo-humanism.

Today, by His grace, I have overcome my ignorance and illusion. Now I am working tirelessly for everybody's attainment of perfect peace. We have to raise the slogan of one human society; our collective humanity is one and indivisible. We are to sing the glory of Parama Purusa as our Cosmic Father...

Islamic mazar worship in AMPS + 3 more

Reply to: anandamargauniversal1@yogasamsthanam.net

Baba

Islamic mazar worship in AMPS
Namaskar,

The below photo depicts the scene at an Islamic tomb worship ceremony. And similar things are going on annually in our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha (AMPS) at the Tiljala (Kolkata) headquarters - continue reading or scroll down to see the scene in Tiljala. As you may know, Islam has been doing this type of tomb (mazar) worship since the 14th century. And this letter examines how the Islamic tomb / mazar worship compares to what is going on in Tiljala’s annual death ceremony / tomb worship program.

Now let’s look more closely at the below photo. In the Islamic tradition there is a maqbara - i.e. a domed memorial building for the deceased (see below photo). The round, domed building in the background which houses the tomb (mazar) is the maqbara. Already Islamic followers have filled that domed maqbara building and they are encircling the tomb / mazar. Hoards of people have come out for this grand Islamic tomb worship gathering. And if you see the below maqbara you will note that it is so full that there is an overflow of attendees. These Muslim worshipers cannot fit inside the tomb because it is so crowded so they are performing their annual mahaprayan (urs) / annual death ceremony outside the maqbara.

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship in Ajmer

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship in Ajmer

Once again, in the above photo, Islamic followers have filled that domed maqbara building and they are encircling the tomb / mazar. These Muslim worshipers cannot fit inside the tomb because it is so crowded so they are performing their annual mahaprayan (urs) / annual death ceremony outside the maqbara.

Same dogma on a grander scale in Tiljala

Now look here at the scene in our AMPS at Tiljala whereby after 1990 the mahaprayan / annual death day / tomb worship started. See how the followers of so-called mahaprayan are encircling the tomb in the Memorial. The five-pointed pratik is raised off the ground and on top is the actual tomb / mahasamadhi.

So each year for the mahaprayan function, the AMPS / Tiljala organisers use this mahasamadhi / tomb as the focal point of the program. It is veritably tomb worship or idol worship. And the mahaprayan organisers treat this as a holy place where one can seek boons etc. In this way, they call everyone to Tiljala because they feel Tiljala is the the epicenter, i.e. only place to perform mahaprayan.

So the Tiljala AMPS mahaprayan function is a replica of the annual death day dogma / tomb worship, as done in Islam. Tiljala stands as a place of dogmatic pilgrimage (tiirtha) and at the center of it all is one tomb. Those mahaprayan organisers feel the deceased is gone and all that is left is to ask for boons etc. By sight anyone can understand that the below scene is a carbon copy of Islamic death day worship.

Once again, by the above photo it is clear that the AMPS Tiljala organisers use this mahasamadhi / tomb as the focal point of the program. They call everyone to Tiljala as they feel Tiljala is the the only place to perform mahaprayan, and at the center of it all is one tomb. By sight anyone can understand that the above scene in AMPS (Kolkata) is a carbon copy of Islamic annual death day / tomb (mazar) worship.

In this next photo below, we find three Islamic tomb (mazar) worshipers as they ask for gifts and mundane boons from their deceased friends and relatives. This is their regular custom and tradition and it is this Islamic tomb (mazar) worship dogma which is the basis and inspiration for the annual mahaprayan / tomb worship program in Tiljala.

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship

So in the above photo those Islamic worshipers are involved in tomb worship where they ask for gifts and mundane boons from their deceased friends and relatives. And now that same Islamic tradition is being carried on by Tiljala at their annual tomb worship / mahaprayan gathering.
Thousands of Baba's discourses,
but nowhere will you find instructions for Mahaprayan

It is unfortunate that despite Almighty Baba's warnings about dogmatic ways of worshiping Him, now His own so-called disciples are doing the very things He warned against. All His divine teachings of sadhana have been pushed aside and in place of that tomb worship has started.

In our AMPS, reverence to Baba means following His guidelines - not dogmatic religious guidelines in the name of Baba. Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji has given thousands of discourses, but nowhere will you find instructions for observing so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship as it is going on now. Only in Islamic traditions can you find such guideline where they worship the tomb (mazar) of the deceased.

As sincere bhaktas of Baba we should follow all the sadhana lessons and meditate on Him, and study His spiritual teachings given in Subhasita Samgraha etc. We must not follow the dogma of Islam.

Conclusion

Here below Caryacarya gives an explicit period of time for mourning - i.e. 12 days. The annual mahaprayan dogma is in clear violation of this rule.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The period of mourning should not extend beyond twelve days." (1)

Baba today You have come to me, seeing You I am speechless

"Tumi esecho bha'lo besecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2435)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, You have come to me, poured Your affection, and made me Yours. You have spread Your sweet smile, and captivated and dyed my mind in Your sublime colour. Baba, You have made me Your own.

O’ Parama Purusa, my continued waiting for Your footsteps, my counting the time for Your arrival, my passing the moment in decorating for Your reception - in all my various chores You have poured and drenched me with spiritual nectar. My every second passes in repeating my mantra in Your memory, in waiting for Your auspicious arrival. You have drenched the sweetness into flower buds as well.

O’ my Eternal Companion, there is now nothing that I desire from You; You have given everything. You have come in my dhyana. I am meditating on You all the time 24 hrs. By Your infinite compassion I feel Your presence in anudhyana and sadhana. That is why I am forever for You. Baba, You have appeared in my heart in a very intimate, new, and newer bha’va, i.e. madhur bha’va. It is Your karun’a’.

O Prabhu, You have made my mind colourless. I cannot ever forget You. Always I am thinking about Your charm. O’ Ever-Present Entity Baba, I feel deep inside my heart that You love me and that You care for me in all the ways - always watching for my welfare. What more do I need than that….

Operative factor for meaningful donation

According to Ananda Marga philosophy, the value of any donation is based on the degree of sacrifice involved. If one has great heart-felt feeling for a particular cause and is willing to do anything and everything to help those suffering people, then his offering will be very meaningful and of great value. Even if he can only afford to give a few rupees, his donation will be very significant. In contrast, if a wealthy millionaire cares little for suffering humanity and undergoes no trouble by donating RS100,000 then his donation will pale in comparison to the generosity of the poor person who gave a few rupees.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The charity of a few paise of the poor has the same value as a thousand rupees from a millionaire. Indeed the charity of those few paise is greater." (1)

Story of wealth & fall

Reply to: anandamargauniversal1@yogasamsthanam.net

Baba

Story of wealth & fall

Namaskar,

https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here below is an English summary of Baba’s above Hindi teaching:

Do you know that there is a pact between wealth and sin. Wherever there is the gunk of sin, immediately the goddess of wealth wants to live there. In contrast, wherever honesty and simplicity and pure intellect, the goddess of wealth walks away. So every spiritual aspirant should remember poverty is the sign of sadhuta (sadhu-ness).

If you get a lot of wealth you should be concerned and alert, and ask yourself, “Why is the goddess of wealth coming and sheltering here? Am I committing some type of sin? Why is Laksmii coming here in my dwelling?” (2)

Margii family degeneration due to wealth: Case study

Ac Simple ji is a very senior Acarya. His two Bahu (daughters-in-law) lead a western life. They are members of a ladies group of non-margiis (millionaire). Their group every month arranges "Kitty party" and dances on western music till midnight 1 am or more late. Sometimes these ladies visit jointly Goa, etc cities without their husbands. Ac Simple ji's eldest son Mr. Meditator's wife is from non margii family. She enjoys all types of non-margii lifestyle of millionaire. They have only one kid.

https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Mr. Meditator fully supports his wife. Mr. Meditator and his wife are very egoistic and have vanity that they are crore pati (millionaire). They mostly do not attend DC, kiirtan, any AM programme. When Ac. Simple’ji visits them in the big metropolis, then Mr. Meditator & the other son Mr. Intellect attend at least one DC, just to show their father Ac Simple ji.

In the past Ac Simple ji 2nd son Mr. Intellect invited all for Griha Pravesh of their new but altra costly flat (home). Few years back Ac Simple’s 1st son Mr. Meditator invited all for Griha Pravesh for their new costly house.

After seeing lifestyle of eldest daughter in law, 2nd son Mr. Intellect's wife also joined some other non-margii kitty party group. In competition, she also enjoys the same western lifestyle. Mr. Intellect's wife is the daughter of Ac Moon’ ji of Ranchi.

My understanding is that Ac Simple ji spent entire life in poverty but sincerely worked for Ananda Marga. After 1991, AMPS helped his family and got the two sons admitted in Engineering and MBA courses. Both sons got good jobs and became rich. And then lifestyle changed. Either Ac Simple ji might have wished for rich lives for his sons, or his sons might have wished for rich lifestyle. Parama Puruśa Baba fulfilled their wishes and walked out of their houses.

~ In-depth study ~

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Where there is over-accumulation of physical wealth several problems occur. Human beings do not have many needs. Primarily they need satisfying meals and clothing, according to their necessities. Most people do not even want many things.” (3)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The desire to accumulate money is actually a mental disease. The accumulators of  [wealth] do not accumulate to fulfil their basic needs a human needs are few…where there is over-accumulation [wealth] people tend to misutilize wealth by indulging in their baser propensities rather than their finer ones. Therefore you will mark, as I am making it crystal-clear to you, that…most of the aristocrats and wealthy people of today who have nothing to do are generally wicked and mean-minded...When we have to judge, we must be frank.” (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Over-accumulated physical [wealth]...is the second cause for becoming a sinner. I have already discussed the problems of the “have's” [wealthy], and the “have-nots” [poor]. To satisfy the greed of the have's [wealthy], the have-not's [poor] become slaves, and to appease their own hunger they [the poor] become sinners. The have's mis-utilize the intellectual and physical wealth of the have-not's to satisfy their [wealthy] baser propensities. In the background sit the big capitalists; in the foreground, as their agents, are half-naked children! This is the cause of the downfall of society.” (5)
