Brain & body health tip + 4 more

Baba
Brain & body health tip

Namaskar,

Everyone in Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha understands that an integral feature of yoga and human health is the regular maintenance and revitalisation of the glandular system. Sadguru Baba has spoken about this at length. On numerous occasions, He has explained that it is the secretions of the glands which help keep the human structure in optimal form. That’s why many of our yogic practices aim towards maintaining and exercising the glands: our sadhana system, dances (kaoshikii, tandava etc), half-bath, sattvik food, and yoga asanas etc. These daily practices all help make the glands vibrant.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

One special point intrinsically related with glandular health is the application of oil to the hair on the joints of the body. Because many glands are located in the joints, and the joint hair is specially designed to help regulate and cool the glands. This is the unique way which Parama Purusa has created the human body. Side by side, He has also told that in order to maintain the joint hair it is needed to oil and comb those areas of the body. So the application of oil to the joints is key. Baba has included this in so many of his important teachings of our Ananda Marga way of life such as in Sixteen Points and Caryacarya.

The unique aspect about both the armpit and pubic regions is that they are enclosed areas - that's to say the air does not pass freely through those regions. Consequently, they build-up heat, and the heat gets trapped in both the armpit and pubic regions. In order to control that heat build-up and cool those areas, it is essential to let the joint hair grow in those places and apply oil after bathing. That is essential for the overall health of those regions around the joints including the skin, pores, glands, and sub-glands of those areas.

Applying oil to the crown of the head

One point is the importance of applying oil to the hair on top of the head. In so many reportings Baba was checking to see that everyone was applying oil to the crown of the head. And Baba was sternly pointing anyone out if they were failing to do this. Baba's direction is that oil should be applied to the hair on the head as well. Because we know that right there at the crown of the head is the home of the all-important pituitary and pineal glands. To keep those glands cool and properly regulated, the hair on the head needs to be well maintained. Applying oil aids in that process.

Incorporating His teachings

Here below Baba has given one special boon and guideline for advancing far, far ahead on the path.

Baba says, "It is a bigger thing to put one lesson into action than to hear many. You should put into action every lesson in your life." (1)

So wherever we may be physically, mentally, and spiritually, from today onwards, by Baba's grace, step by step, may we all incorporate more and more of His divine guidelines into our regular use and practice. On this grand endeavour Baba's infinite grace is ever with us.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

Glandular health is a vital point of our human existence and a central aspect of our yogic way of life. If the glands are imbalanced or diseased, that has a disastrous effect on the physical and psychic bodies. So we should be vigilant in following all the do’s and don’ts for properly maintaining the glands, including applying a touch of oil on the crown of the head. That is highly beneficial for the pituitary and pineal glands, home of the higher cakras.

Namaskar,
In Him,

Three-step process Baba guides

In His discourses from Nama'mi Krs'n'asundaram, Baba has given one special insight for following Mahasambhuti. In a neatly outlined three-step process Baba guides us that (a) we should follow what Guru has written, (b) we are to practice what Guru has spoken, (c) we are to observe Guru's way of life and use our vivek to understand what His actions support and oppose. And those things we should also do.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

These are Baba's own directives for how to best follow Him. So by the above, we can easily understand that those teachings which Baba has spoken about on a regular basis such as applying oil to the crown of the head are permanent guidelines of Ananda Marga. And there is a clear benefit in this also because each and every syllable which Baba has told is for our welfare. All know well that Baba is very vigilant on this approach that all should apply oil to the hair on the head. In following Guru, the return is very great.

Ayurveda also preaches that applying oil to the head promotes all-round health, hygiene, and well-being.

'Painca’gni': the five fires

As we are all well aware here below is the third point of 16 Points.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "Never cut the hair of the joints of the body." (2)

About this above point, there are multiple benefits including one special aspect known as painca’gni-- literally meaning 'the five fires'. And the five fires means allowing the hair of the body to grow in 5 places-- namely (a) on the top of the head, (b) face, (c) chest, (d) armpits, and (e) pubic region.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

And the inner significance of these painca’gni is that these five fires kindle the "fire"-- of fearlessness, courage, valour, and bravery. Because allowing the hair to grow in these five places gives one the endurance in life to overcome all obstacles and defeat all enemies. That is why they are known as painca’gni-- the five fires.

At various times, Baba has revealed this secret about painca’gni and bravery. When He first gave 16 Points, in various reporting sessions, as well as in one special avadhuta meeting, Baba graced all with a special blessing. On these occasions and more, Baba has verified the special import of painca’gni.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us,  "I know one is sure to get divine help. And I know further that one is getting divine help. And I know still further that in future, for infinite time and infinite space, one will be getting this divine favour." (3)

Days passed me by

“Páini tiirthe giri guháte…” (Prabhat Samgiita #2324)

Purport:

O’ Lord, I did not find You in any of the so-called holy places, nor in the mountains or caves. Indeed I could not spot You anywhere. The only thing that happened is that my days passed me by. I just wasted my time wallowing around in futility. I partook in useless discussions, pontificating about the grandeur of scripture in order to enhance my prestige and stature. Sadly, my time was just used in singing my own glories.

O’ Parama Purusa, You are the nucleus of the mental world. Everything and everyone emanates from and revolves around You. You remain radiant and pristine above all as that eternal, effulgent Entity. All existential feelings are situated in Your luminescence and in the unending stream of Your thoughts.

Baba, by Your grace, now I understand how to live on this earth. I will only spend my time doing those dharmic works that You want done. I will engage in those endeavours according to Your desire. I will work with the sole intention of pleasing You. Baba, by Your immense karuńá and the flow of Your unending krpa', I shall forever remain very close to You…

Tendency of democracy to divide

Prout philosophy states, “There are occasions when majority decisions do not create unity in society because people are more or less divided on an issue. In such circumstances, the leaders should be very cautious when making their decisions, and take special care to safeguard the interests of everybody. In particular, they should select a course of action which does not harm the sentiments of any group. For example, suppose there are seven brothers in a joint family, and these brothers are divided on an issue. Four brothers may be on one side and three brothers on another. If the head of the family takes a decision based on the wishes of the majority, the family will be divided into two groups. Therefore, a decision should be taken which safeguards the interests of all the brothers.” (1)

Solution: weak digestion

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments, “Digestive organs and livers in particular become very weak, and such children [and adults] normally turn out emaciated.” (1)

Here following is the reply on easily digestible sources of protein.
#1: These two are the top most as they are very digestible:
(a) spirulina: this is grown in South India, as well as in many other parts of the world.
(b) nutritional yeast (not brewer's yeast): this is available here in various health / organic food stores, as well as online.
For maximum absorption, best is to mix with water and drink alone. Do not mix with any other food and don not mix the spirulina with the yeast.

#2: The next tier down is flax seed:
Flax seed is excellent for easy digestion, brings energy, and is good for the brain and sadhana. Plus it is very cheap. Just grind and soak overnight and eat alone or with vegetable. It will bring a big energy boost. But do not eat more than 3 or 4 spoons of flax seed powder at one time. One other benefit is that this is also very good to carry, i.e. easy to have while touring.

#3a: Soaking beans and nuts for 48hrs (tossing the water multiple times during the soaking period and then boiling the end), makes them a lot  easier to digest.

#3b: Peanut milk, sesame milk, or soy milk can also be made. Just soak and blend, then strain it and give away the fiber for animals. You can drink a lot of protein in this way.

#4: Eating with proper food combinations. Take protein alone or with greens / leafy vegetables, but not with carbohydrates.

#5: Fermented foods (you can use special jars to ferment without rotting).

#6: Sprouted beans. Soak initially for 12 hours or more, and then rinse twice daily.

#7: Using spices like dill, ajwain, cumin, black cumin, anise, black pepper, and chicory root for bile.

#8a: Eat minimal quantity in one sitting but eat frequently even many times per day. Sick persons can take food multiple times as needed. Eat little then when hungry eat more.

#8b: Always have food prepared ahead of time so the moment hunger comes one can eat without delay.

#8c: But do not eat if one is not hungry.

#9: By following this then digestion will not be an issue.

#10: In old age there is a shortage of digestive juice in the stomach. To overcome this, take apple cider vinegar which helps produce stomach digestive juices.
Regarding protein, staple foods (rice, roti etc) also contain small to moderate amounts of protein.

The above points will help anyone suffering from digestive issues; and these above guidelines are born out of the experience of various sadhakas.

In Him,
Vidya’

With regards to the number of times a patient may eat, here Baba talks about treatment of two different diseases. The basic idea is that when the system is weak then one should just eat small amounts of food at a time.

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, "It is also desirable to take a small quantity of food a greater number of times, rather than to eat a large amount at one time." (1)

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, "The patient should never eat much at a time. Instead, food should be eaten several times a day, eating only a small quantity each time." (2)

In the same spirit, you can eat as many times as needed a small quantity of food in order to maintain your health. Because that is the medical need. By taking a small amount many times during the day, the body will be able to digest and assimilate food in a more efficient and health-supportive manner.

It is just like how a weak person cannot carry 100lbs at a time but can carry 10lbs ten times. Or it is similar to how a car cannot be started in high gear, a lower gear is needed. That is why Baba guides us that those suffering from a digestive disorder or weak stomach should only eat a small amount of food at a time.

Praise is like jackal’s cry: hungry for Praise

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Those who work with the motivation that they will attain intellectual victory are slaves to words of praise. They can never become great people. It is bad to be a slave to worldly words of praise. The sounds raised by jackals and those raised in praise of some intellectuals are similar. Hence remaining engrossed in váda, vitańd́á and jalpa will lead to nothing.” (1)

Note: In the life of a sadhaka, neither praise nor censure have any value. Sadhakas should focus on their conduct and adhere to Ananda Marga ideology. Praise and censure are just a distraction. Those hungry for praise cannot do anything great. There are many important works to be done for the society and the welfare of the people, but the public often does not understand the import of those projects. That is why initially they abuse those dharmikas, but one should not be perturbed and continue on disregarding those naysayers.

Why sadhakas fall + 2 more

Baba
Why sadhakas fall

Namaskar,

Bábá says that AM teachings, or jiṋána, are needed to know the right path so that one has a proper roadmap in life. In the absence of AM teachings, one may be deceived and misled by false philosophies. A lack of AM teachings is perilous for one’s spiritual development as it may lead to dogmatic thinking. So one should acquire AM teachings and then make efforts to follow the right path.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Great seminar system

On the practical side, Bábá has given the system of seminar in which classes on a variety of subjects are held on a regular basis. Seminars are held at the state, district and village level so that everyone has the opportunity to learn dharmic teachings. This is especially useful for small villages because large programs like DMC cannot be held at the village level but seminars can. During regular reporting sessions before 1990, Bábá used to ask whether proper teaching was done or not. Exams were conducted. For any lacunae in teaching that was exposed, guidance was given to bring about all-round welfare. Even today, the tradition of seminar continues in our AM Ananda Marga Pracárak Samgha. The very existence of the seminar system in AMPS demonstrates the importance that Baba has given to the acquisition of jiṋána (AM teachings).

Seminar is an important constituent of the Sixteen Points, and it is directly listed in the 16th point. Ananda Marga Caryácarya states, “Observe C.S.D.K. (Conduct Rules, Seminar, Duty, Kiirtana).” (1)

Perils of ignoring AM teachings

Ignoring one’s duty to acquire AM teachings, by not reading Bábá’s discourses, is dangerous. Due to a lack of AM teachings, one becomes vulnerable to being cheated by charlatans. One needs to acquire AM teachings and use them appropriately for saving oneself from dogmatic thinking caused by ignorance and also for solving problems encountered on a day-to-day basis. Active Ananda Márgiis have a higher standard of AM teachings compared to ordinary people as they engage themselves in AM practices and the acquisition of AM knowledge. Lack of AM teachings renders people unequipped to solve the problems of individual and collective life. A lack of AM teachings also makes people sentimentally attached to wrongdoers. This is the reason that, in spite of knowing the anti-dhármic activities of a few, some people support them. Those margiis who are deficient in proper knowledge of AM ideology become sentimentally attached and fall prey to supporting adharmic activities.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Way to preserve AM teachings

Baba condemns the useless knowledge of pseudo-intellectuals. One may wrongly conclude from this teaching of Bábá’s that reading any book is against Bábá’s teachings. Whether such an approach is in line with Bábá’s teachings needs to be understood.

Had Bábá thought that jiṋána (AM teachings) is not important then He would not have given the huge number of discourses which He gave. In the beginning, when audio recording gadgets were not available, the discourses were dictated and later proofread by Bábá Himself. Later, with the advent of audio recording machines, the discourses were tape recorded. During the emergency period when Bábá was in jail, recording or taking written notes was not permitted by the jail authorities. Thus, during this period, the bhaktas forgot the tradition of recording. It was a great loss as whatever Táraka Brahma Himself spoke was not preserved for the present and future human beings.

Hence, after Baba’s coming out of jail, margiis and Wts took the issue of recording casually and did not record what Bábá spoke. All-knowing Bábá, in order to remind everyone about the importance of recording, refused to deliver discourses for some time to teach people. Consequently, people learnt their lesson quickly. Bábá then began delivering discourses again and proper recording was resumed. The audio recordings are a very useful and important tool today to fix the distortions in AMPS teachings. We are thus capable, for the first time in human history, of doing what could not be done when the teachings of Shiva and Krsna were distorted. In this period, Bábá dictated numerous discourses on grammar, history, sociology, and anthropology in addition to spiritual philosophy.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

So one should not be confused as to the importance of AM teachings. In order to do proper pracár, a solid understanding of AM teachings is needed. Indeed, to retain people in our AMPS, sádhaná is required but to attract people to Ananda Márga they need to be convinced first. Only an Ananda Márgii bhakta can, taking the help of AM shástra, convincingly attract people to the path of bliss - Ananda Márga.

Conclusion

Bábá wants us to acquire AM teachings to become an ideal karmii and bhakta. The only goal of acquiring AM teachings should be to evoke bhakti. Lack of AM teachings is perilous as it can push us towards dogmatic thinking and aid charlatans in their efforts to cheat us. Conducting seminars is a very potent way to spread dharmic teachings, but they have to be relevant and based on sound background. By spreading AM teachings, we can improve society and align it with the path of bliss.

In Him,
Bhakti

Intellectual extravaganza

Based on the aforementioned description, we can see that AM teachings are not only useful but forthrightly endorsed by Ananda Marga. Bábá calls the so-called “knowledge” of impractical pseudo philosophies as harmful. For example, communism is outdated and has been proven to be impractical yet people study it and use the teachings of communism in their lives and profess the same. Many even obtain university degrees in the subject of communism. Today, besides its historical significance, communism has no relevance. Likewise, Vedánta and Advaitaváda are dead and impractical philosophies. Many spend their entire lives in studying such useless philosophies and then use their acquired so-called knowledge to claim prestige in society. Bábá refers to such so-called knowledge and knowledgeable people as lokavya’mohaka’raka.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Whereas, AM teachings are very useful. Ananda Márga shástra is proper knowledge and we must all strive to acquire it and follow its guidelines more and more in our lives.

Problems with seminars nowadays & solution

Nowadays, although seminars are held, very little is accomplished in terms of people learning from those seminars. This is partly due to work pressure and partly due to a lack of interest in those teachings, and that is why those seminars are mostly ineffective. Often, seminars are delivered on some obscure topic which no one can relate to. As a result, many either sleep during the seminars or forget the topics as soon as they walk out of the venue. Conducting seminars without providing an adequate foundation and background is useless. Just like a building can be robust only if the foundation is laid properly, the background of the seminar has to be established skillfully.

In addition, the topic of the seminar has to be practical. People appreciate only that which they can directly relate to. For example, if a scientific lecture is to be delivered in a village, a suitable topic is how to make a tube well-- which people can directly relate to-- rather than on theoretical physics, which people may not appreciate and connect to. Thus, the seminar topics must be chosen keeping in mind the direct needs of the people and how they can use the imparted knowledge in their day-to-day lives. For example, an important topic that most márgiis can relate to is how to do effective pracár. Thus, a seminar addressing the practical point of how one can propagate Ananda Marga teachings in their day-to-day lives can be appreciated better compared to an esoteric subject. It should also be said that the skills of the speaker also play a significant role so that an esoteric topic can be conveyed very effectively.

True penance

Ananda Marga ideology states, “People’s life becomes mechanical if they are overwhelmed with the sentiment that they must do such acts, must perform such yajiṋa, must rise in this manner and sit in this manner and get up in this manner and so on. Such a person is not happy, and this type of ritualism cannot be called real karma. To serve others at one’s sacrifice is called penance. In the absence of love, any service or penance is for show and is therefore fruitless.” (1)

Making relation with Him + 3 more

Baba
Making relation with Him

Namaskar,

There are many accepted bha'vas (relations) in Ananda Marga sadhana: (a) father-son / daughter relation, (b) friend relation, (c) slave relation, and (d) baby relation etc. However, it is madhura bha'va that can bring the bhakta to that pinnacled state of closeness with Parama Purusa. And that is the type of bha'va (relation) expressed in certain Prabhat Samgiita compositions.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Madhura bha'va is a very exalted bha'va, for this bha'va fills the mind with sweetness and bliss and leads the aspirant to the closest proximity of the Lord." (1)

This is not to say that the other bhavas (relations) have no place in the life of the sadhaka. All the bha'vas are meaningful. And in dhya'na we should always follow the one which feels most natural at that time. Forcing or pretending to follow a particular bha'va is meaningless; rather it is highly detrimental. Ours is the path of sincerity and naturalness.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

At the same time, we should always have the theoretical understanding in mind that madhura bhava can bring us to the zenith point of divine realisation. All the other bhavas (relations), ultimately at the climax, must get converted into either dasya bhava or madhura bhava. This is the rule.

The beauty of madhura bha'va

The inherent beauty of madhura bha'va is wonderfully expressed in Prabhat Samgiita. The key element is that the bhakta does not want anything from Parama Purusa, but He Himself. The bhakta does not want gold, or a job, or worldly relations, or prestige, or any type of mundane desire. The bhakta only wants that spiritual connection with Parama Purusa.

Yet, the sadhaka is not satisfied with the mere presence of Parama Purusa, or any lower type of relation. The sadhaka only wants an extremely intimate relation with Parama Purusa. So it is purely a personal relation. And the closer Parama Purusa comes, the more proximity the sadhaka wants with Parama Purusa..

That is the nature of madhura bhava: There is no satiation point until one finally merges in Him. In those higher stages of madhura bha'va, the bhakta is yearning and crying to have Him still more close. That is how the aspirant ultimately realises the goal of finally becoming one with Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Every sadhaka should at least have this theoretical understanding. In dhyana, one may tend toward the Father-son relation, or one may like the Friend relation, yet all should have awareness that beyond that there is madhura bhava. And it is that bhava which is highlighted in numerous compositions of Prabhat Samgiita.

Conclusion

By Baba's grace, every sadhaka of Ananda Marga has the opportunity to get Him in a close and intimate way. That is the speciality of tantra. There is no intermediary between the aspirant and Parama Purusa. As the loving relation develops one is sure to attain Him, by His krpa.

In Him,
Ranjiita

Relation in Prabhat Samgiita

In Prabhat Samgiita all the songs are exclusively between the bhakta and Parama Purusa. There never is a third person or a third entity in any song. That is what makes Prabhat Samgiita so unique: There are countless songs which exclusively express the close communication between the bhakta and His Lord. While the various dogmatic followers often insert an extra voice into their poetry and songs. In that case, that composition is not the expression of intimacy between bhakta and Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In Prabhat Samgiita, there are numerous songs that focus solely on the madhura bhava relation where the bhakta is crying to get Parama Purusa closer and still more close. The bhakta only wants that most loving link with God, not any lesser relation, and certainly not any mundane gift or boon.

Prabhat Samgiita is for all levels of bhaktas. And by His grace and through the regular practice of kiirtan and sadhana and singing Prabhat Samgiita, one is sure to realize that stance of madhura bhava.

How You play Your liila

PS Intro: This song explains how before creation Parama Purusa was alone. Then in His mind He created the entire universe. What is happening in His mind is our reality. In the last phase of creation He made human beings and filled their heart with bhakti. That is what is described in this song.

“Bhálobese chile man bharile vyathá bujhile...” (Prabhat Samgiita #3898)

Purport:

Parama Purusa, You loved me and completely satiated my mind. Every cell of my existence received Your divine touch. You understood my pain. Each moment, in the glow of fresh effulgence, You made flowers come into bloom in my life. You blessed me in newer and newer ways.

Supreme Entity, humans had never imagined this. And a person had never come into this triloka and manifested the cycle of creation by their own imagination. It was impossible for anyone to create the sky, air, the five fundamental factors, and three lokas. Yet You have created everything. This cycle of creation is Your thought projection. My Taraka Brahma, You are liila personified.

Parama Purusa, in the last stage of pratisaincara, You awakened the love, affection, and tender emotions towards the Supreme, in the human mind. This feeling You bestowed in everyone’s heart. You blessed one and all with mental momentum and the warmth of spiritual yearning. Baba, You gave flow of bhakti. Yet You hid Yourself within Your own creation. In this way, You go on playing Your divine liila so nobody can see You.

Parama Purusa Baba, please put divine collyrium in my eyes so I can see You everywhere...

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #3898:

[1] Triloka: This following section about triloka is from Baba’s general darshan of 16 July 1980 in Patna. The two excerpts cited below define what the three lokas are and where they exist.

What are the three lokas

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The Supreme cognitive faculty is the subjectivity. And the second compartment of His Cosmic Mind takes the form of this moving world, of this animated or inanimated world. Everything resides, everything is created, everything is maintained, everything is nourished, and everything undergoes final metamorphosis within the vast objectivated mind, that is within the second mental counterpart of the Supreme Entity….”

“Now, what's the meaning of triloka, tribhuvana? You have got a physical body made of so many elements, so many compounds. And we say it is [the] quinquelemental universe, composed of five fundamental factors...”

“And you exist in this realm of physicalities. This is one bhuvana. And, the subtler portion of the physical structure of living beings, when that subtler portion gets powdered down, is metamorphosed into ectoplasm, it becomes the mind. You have got a mind. And as all of you know, you are not the mind. You are the owner of the mind. So, your second existence is the mental world. Second world…”

“Your "I" is concentrated round your ego. And that pinnacled ego touches the astral stratum. So, that astral stratum is the third world. One physical world, another mental world, and another that subtle astral world. So, there are three worlds.” (1)

Where the three lokas exist

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Both for microcosm and Macrocosm. In case of Macrocosm, all these three worlds lie within the second compartment of the [Cosmic] mind. First compartment is the cognitive mind. And the second compartment is the "done mind", objectivated mind, mind that can be seen, that can be realized, that can be enjoyed singularly. So, these are the three bhuvanas, three worlds.” (2)

How to create a world government

Prout philosophy states, "The question may arise, Is it possible to establish the world government and Ánanda Parivára without struggle? In reply I will say, “Yes.” The greatest social welfare for the human race will be accomplished if those who aspire to establish the world government or Ánanda Parivára engage themselves only in constructive activities and selfless service, instead of wasting their vital energy in the vortex of politics, or in political conflicts. They will have to go on rendering social service with steadfast commitment, without any ulterior motive in their minds." (1)
