Distortion: False things about samadhi in AM books

Baba

Distortion: False things about samadhi in AM books

Namaskar,

All senior margiis know about those special demonstrations given by Baba in 1969-70, and also that He performed other demonstrations before and after 1969-70 as well. This is also described in certain discourses on samadhi published in the Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell (part 5). Those discourses are related with the samadhi demonstrations of 1969 in Ranchi. And the publishers included a description of those demonstrations in the printed discourse. Unfortunately, those insertions create a lot of confusion.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

For instance, in the chapter "Ra'ga'nuga'  Ra'ga'tmika' Sama'dhi", on page 324, the description of the demonstration (appended below) gives the message that such-and-such person got samadhi. That makes it look like the sadhaka got samadhi due to his own efforts. But, the truth is that Sadguru Baba blessed that person with samadhi. The sadhaka did not do anything per se - on their own. Just it was Guru’s causeless grace.

Baba demonstrated samadhi on x, y, z sadhakas

So the key point is that the participant did not acquire samadhi by dint of their own efforts in sadhana. But the description inserted into the Ananda Marga Philosophy Nutshell book gives the notion that those sadhakas got samadhi by their own efforts and gains in sadhana. So again, here lies the serious distortion of fact: Because the undisputed truth is that Parama Purusa Baba graciously bestowed samadhi to that sadhaka. It is most unfortunate the writer hid the truth, for whatever reason. Now it is incumbent on us to fix this. Otherwise it will be an injustice to all those future generations of readers.

Often those subjects selected for the demonstration were not very elevated souls. Rather many of them ended up leaving Ananda Marga. From this one can easily deduce that those demonstrations were given by Baba for the purpose of imparting a teaching to the society. Those demonstrations were not dependent upon one's individual elevation, merit, or their spiritual standard.

Baba chose those people to show that even xyz persons can experience samadhi. If only great sadhakas were used in demonstrations then the common people would think that those grand spiritual realisations were beyond their reach. Yet when they saw local people and commoners experiencing the divine force, they gained the requisite conviction and felt that they too could reach to those heights, by His grace. Only firmness in Guru is needed. So there was tremendous benefit in Baba’s selection of such persons.

Why Baba has given samadhi demonstrations on x, y, z sadhakas

The question is why Baba opted to give demonstration on samadhi. When Mahasambhuti Sadguru propounds any philosophy then He gives both a well-knit, logical, philosophical side and the practical side as well - i.e. a demonstration. Without that people will not be able to believe that samadhi really exists. So if Baba would not have given demonstrations of all those different samadhis, then many would not have believed that samadhi is something real or attainable. The demonstrations were needed to teach one and all that spiritual realisation is not just something theoretical. That is why in 1969 Baba presented this part of His spiritual philosophy by giving various demonstrations.

As we know, the main cause of getting samadhi is His causeless grace. That is how aspirants receive samadhi - regardless of the level of attainment. Without the grace of Parama Purusa one cannot advance in the spiritual realm. Yet, this very basic truth has been undermined by the way they inserted the descriptions of those demonstrations. Because those descriptions have been written as if the sadhaka attained that samadhi exclusively by their own efforts. When, in reality, it was all due to Baba’s divine grace.

Still there are hundreds of senior margiis around the globe who can bear witness to the fact that these samadhis were only done by Baba - HE graced them to happen. Senior margiis watched on countless occasions when Baba took His stick and touched those sadhakas. And the end result was that all those x, y, z persons got samadhi in the way He desired. All these facts are known today. But we should not forget that tomorrow, that means after 80 years, then most of the persons who were witness to those demonstrations will no longer be present. Then these false narrations of demonstrations from Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell will be treated as truth, ie. wrong will be accepted as right.

Readers will not know the fact that Baba was directly behind all these samadhis. The future society will be deprived of this cosmic truth that Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji has given such demonstrations, and that this was the way in which He played His divine liila.

Conclusion

Those who do not have proper bhakti may think this is one ordinary matter. But those who have bhakti can easily think that the distortion of truth is detrimental and harmful. But on this higher-most spiritual teaching, how can we accept this distortion in our own Ananda Marga scriptures.

So these improper narrations about samadhi which have been inserted into Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell should be fixed without any delay. They should be rewritten to express the beautiful way in which Baba graced His ordinary x, y, z disciples with samadhi. Otherwise it is harmful and misleading and, the more time that goes by it will become increasingly difficult to correct.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In the realm of dharma, the only true guide and controller, motivating force and protector of the people, is an excellent and comprehensive ideology which provides definite clear-cut and bold directions for all aspects of human life-- from one's personal daily routine to one's social activities and collective motivation, to the spiritual inspiration which brings one closer to God. A scripture which does not fulfill these conditions is not worthy of being called a scripture at all...Thus the Scriptures containing spiritual injunctions must be totally flawless." (1)

~ In-depth study ~

Those samadhi subjects were ordinary people

In many instances, after getting nirvikalpa samadhi during a demonstration, that person left Ananda Marga. And many of them were not believing in Ananda Marga ideology. Because in 1971 when Baba went to jail some of those very samadhi guinea pigs were propagating to general margiis that, "Look, now Baba has lost His power." This was the standard of those subjects of samadhi. It can easily be deduced that these samadhi demonstrations were given by Baba with the explicit purpose to teach the society that samadhi is real. Samadhi can be achieved by anyone when a person’s mind is high, by His grace.

And to prove this point, often these participants were not very elevated souls, and Baba graciously granted them samadhi for a very short period. After that they gradually returned to their normal state of mind. Great sadhakas could get samadhi anyway, so Baba chose ordinary people as a sampling for samadhi demonstrations so everyone can understand that even ordinary x, y, z can get samadhi if they are sincere in sadhana and get the divine grace of Parama Purusa.

It is just like one drama on stage. If one character is using the dress of a king then that character is the king for a few hours or a few minutes. And when the drama is over, then he is his usual self. A similar thing happened with those sadhana demonstrations. The main role was Baba: He selected x, y, z persons and with His direct grace He elevated them for a few minutes or hours and granted them samadhi. That was the demonstration.

The central idea is that the whole credit goes to Baba - not to certain x, y, z, individuals. But unfortunately that part has been discarded from our Ananda  Marga Philosophy book.

Bogus: x, y, z achieved samadhi due to their own efforts

Here below is a description of the demonstration as it was wrongly presented in the book, Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell part 5.

“On May 10, 1969, at Ranchi jagriti, a sádhaka attained rágátmika samádhi. He sat in dhyánásana and with his mind concentrated on each cakra, and began to do dhyána on the supreme object of ideation. He realized that each of his cakras is being controlled by his Iśt́a. Not only that he felt also that his Iśt́a is perceptibly present in his blood, nerves, indriyas, etc. He began to take deep breaths. After remaining in that state, he started to roll on the ground.” (2)

The above described demonstration has been inserted into the book, Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell part 5. And this inserted description of a samadhi demonstration makes it look like the sadhaka achieved samadhi due to his own efforts. But, the truth is that Sadguru Baba blessed that person with samadhi. The sadhaka did nothing; the sadhaka was meditating on Baba. Here in the above quote ista means Baba. Baba graciously granted samadhi upon the sadhaka.

So this inserted paragraph gives readers a false impression that the sadhaka was really great and that is why he got samadhi. Yet, the truth is opposite. It is unfortunate that such descriptions have been inserted into our spiritual shastra. Those insertions should be corrected.

False display: AM books must be fixed

We know those good bhaktas who are with us today may not be with us in 10, 20, 40, or 100 years into the future. So with full heart and energy, we should move ahead at the earliest and ensure that those descriptions of Baba's demonstrations are recorded properly. For such a great and important work that is so intimately related with Baba's grace, there brooks no delay.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "I have learnt that whenever you wish to perform a noble deed, do it immediately. Do today whatever you propose to do tomorrow. "Shubhasya shiighram ashubhasya ka'laharan'am.”” (3)

Great versus lowly + 4 more

Baba

Great versus lowly

Namaskar,

Baba says, "People recollect the tasty dishes they once relished and derive pleasure from that. Other people delight in feeding others. They offer rasagollás or sweets, and at the time of giving, imagine that their guest is enjoying the same delightful taste, the same sweet vibration from the rasagollás which they once relished when they ate them. A host feels mental satisfaction by imagining that the guest’s mind is full of those pleasing vibrations. The host wants the guest to enjoy more and more of those delightful vibrations, and therefore asks the guest to accept the offer of more rasagollás. So, one enjoys pleasure in two ways."

"The human mind has two contradictory inherent tendencies: one of acquisition, the other of sacrifice. The more one advances along the path of evolution, the more the tendency, the spirit of sacrifice, becomes prominent." (1)

Two opposing scenario to derive happiness

In His above teaching Baba is illustrating two opposition psychologies:
(A) The science behind why people feel mental satisfaction by feeding delicious food to others.
(B) The mentality of those who themselves eat delicious food yet do not desire to feed others.

In the first scenario, people derive great happiness from feeding others a tasty meal. But how exactly does this work? What is happening in the mind. Well, suppose one day Govinda ate a sumptuous meal which he enjoyed very much. Then a week or a month letter, Govinda prepares and serves that same type of food to his friend Tanmay. The meal is delicious and Tanmay enjoys every morsel. But that is not all. Govinda himself derives great mental pleasure in feeding Tanmay, even though he (Govinda) is not eating. How does this happen? In his own mind, Govinda recollects how much he enjoyed that meal and he thinks that just as he enjoyed it, similarly Tanmay is also enjoying that meal. This creates a sympathetic vibration in Govinda's mind and he feels great psychic fulfillment. So Govinda is taking delight in sacrificing and serving Tanmaya.

In contrast, in this second scenario, Liilamaya, cooks food for himself and eats it all himself. And he becomes happy thinking how much he enjoyed the food. In this case, Liilamaya is deriving enjoyment from directly eating that food; he does not want to share it with others. There is no spirit of sacrifice, rather he delights in acquiring that food and filling his own belly.

So there are two different approaches:
1. A person derives happiness by sacrificing and watching others enjoy that food.
2. Another becomes happy by direct acquisition, by tasting that food themselves, i.e. greedy.

It all depends on the level of one's sadhana and mental standard etc.

Conclusion

These two - sacrificing vs acquiring - are radically different psychologies. And they are not related solely with food but with all kinds of indulgences and offerings. Some gain pleasure from acquiring something directly, and some become happy by sacrificing and watching others enjoy.

Finally Baba explains that the path of sacrifice is the higher path and as people develop, the more they will adhere to the path of sacrifice.

So be careful, by seeing another’s behaviour you can determine in which group a person falls.

in Him,
Prakash

Prout: Educational Institutions must be controlled by educationalists

"In a democratic system non-educationalist politicians poke their noses into university affairs. They do not know what education is, but they interfere to create a sentiment amongst the people to gain support for the particular ism they preach. They have no other motivation. In the democratic system public support has to be purchased to secure votes and this is the reason why politicians make an all out effort to create sentiments in the minds of the people. In communist countries, no other ism other than Marxism can be preached. People are forced to support it. Institutions which have educational value should be controlled by educationalists and not by politicians. Educationalists should also control the radio, otherwise the party in power will have the opportunity to propagate their ism through the radio system, just as they do in the books approved by university boards." Why one should not run blindly after wealth

“The characteristic (dharma) of the mind is to seek the infinite. The mind attains this goal by concentrating on a particular ideation. As material objects are finite, those who accept them as the aim of life eventually feel frustrated. They fail to attain bliss because neither wealth nor material objects can be enjoyed infinitely. Moreover, those who make material objects their aim in life find their self-interests in conflict with those of other people. They try to deprive others, to protect their own endless greed for wealth and material objects. There will have to be a continuous pressure on the minds of these people to keep them away from material objects. People cannot tolerate such imposition and, on becoming disgruntled, take the path of revolution or counter-revolution against those who pressurize them.”

“Materialism functions by imposing social pressure on people to enjoy material objects; and accepts that as the only mode of operation. Thus, in materialistic countries or societies, people look at one another with suspicion and act according to the information given by the intelligence agencies. In the absence of spiritual ideas, firmness of morality cannot be established. The apparent morality in a materialistic society is nothing but an immoral alliance to protect self-interests.”

Due to lack of intellect or mutual conflicts - Ananda Vanii # 60

“Human society is one and indivisible. Keeping this supreme truth ever fixed in one’s vision, one will have to think of promoting human welfare, love for humanity, human solidarity and universal fraternity, and move accordingly. Not for a single moment should one forget it nor even ignore it. Due to lack of intellect or mutual conflicts in the past, a vast number of creatures have become totally extinct from the surface of the earth. Let human beings not meet the same dreadful consequence.”

Story: mock expulsions + 4 more

Baba

Story: mock expulsions

Namaskar,

Every sadhaka is aware that Baba brought everyone near and never expelled anyone. Only He performed mock expulsions whereby all were aware they were not really expelled.  The below account speaks perfectly to this point: how Baba always keeps His bhaktas engaged in dharmic works, never allowing them to stray.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com/

1970’s: Dada S wanted to return to his laokik home

Back in 1975 during Emergency (martial law in India), Dada Satyavratananda was working in Jaipur with various other Wts. Suddenly the police came and arrested them all, but Dada S was able to evade the police and slip away. At that point, Satyavratananda left his Wt-ship, went underground, and returned to his laokik (worldly) home. That was Dadaji's way of dealing with those turbulent times. Many courageous workers and margiis held firm to the principles and fundamentals of Ananda Marga. But Satyavratananda Dada took a different route - he went back to his laokik (worldly) home in Maharashtra. But soon after, the police tracked him down and arrested him.

Once in police custody, they brought him all the way back to Jaipur and jailed him with Wts. In this way, Dada S was united with so many other avadhutas. That was exclusively Baba's grace. In that way, Satyavratananda again joined up as a Wt, and ultimately they were all released from prison in 1977.

In contrast, those other few Wts who left during Emergency (martial law in India), and went back to their laokik families, missed out on the dharma of Ananda Marga for the rest of their lives. Due to their negative samskaras and poor choices, they remained far. So it was Baba's special grace on Satyavratananda that even though Dada wanted to leave he could not. During the Emergency period in the 1970's, Baba saved him from mundane, worldly life and brought him back as a Wt worker for His divine mission. And Dadaji was very grateful.

The next turn in Dada S’s story

WT conduct rule: "No relationship should exist with worldly family." (32 Rules for Avadhutas, point #9)

Still in the 1980’s Dada Satyavratananda was considering giving up Wt life and returning to his laokik family. This thought was coming in his mind, over and over again, due to his negative samskara.  Satyavratananda knew that going back to his ancestral home was a violation of WT life, but he could not control his desire. To exhaust that bad samskara Baba did one mock expulsion for Dadaji's welfare. This was all part of Baba’s liila. Here is that event:

In the 1980's. Ac Satyavratananda Avt was mock "expelled" by all-loving Baba. Verily, he had to turn in his avadhuta dress and he was barred from seeing Baba. Rather than wait for the drama to play out and be allowed to continue as an avadhuta, Dada S took this as an opportunity to actually leave his Wt-ship and go back to his birthplace etc. So Dadaji went back to his laokik home state of Maharashtra. But Satyavratananda thought if he goes directly back to his birthplace then he will immediately be caught by Wts. So without telling anyone, he opted to hide at his laokik friend’s house in Mumbai instead, rather than go back to his laokik (worldly) family's ancestral home. Subsequently, Baba enquired about Satyavratananda. Upon hearing that Satyavratananda had left for his hometown, Baba scolded Dada S’s higher authority for not keeping a watchful eye on the situation.

Sadguru Baba saves Dada S

In this manner, Baba lovingly scolded that dada who was the boss of Satyavratananda. Then all-knowing Baba disclosed the exact whereabouts of Satyavratananda and instructed GS dada to send one dada to the address of the laokik (worldly) friend's house in Mumbai where Satyavratananda was hiding. The order was given to bring Satyavratananda back.

When the appointed Dada reached the house where Satyavratananda was hiding, then Satyavratananda was quite surprised and asked how this Dada knew where he was. Because he (i.e. Satyavratananda) hadn't told this address to anyone. That Dada replied that Baba had given them the address and told them where to go; and, moreover, Baba had given the instruction to bring Satyavratananda back to central office immediately.

Hearing thus, Satyavratananda couldn’t control himself. He was completely overwhelmed with joy of Baba’s love, and tears rolled down his cheeks. Dadaji called out, "Baba...Baba...Baba." He mentally thought of Baba and prostrated before Him. Then Satyavratananda immediately made the trip back to Kolkata. Since that time, Dada Satyavratanandji has been committed as a full-time Wt.

During a mock expulsion, most Dadas would just remain around and in due course Baba would graciously reinstate them as a Wt. And indeed on that very occasion, countless other WTs were also mock-expelled, but they did not go back to their families. They understood Baba's liila, felt repentance for their wrongs, and waited for Baba to accept them back - which He did.

Conclusion

Today AMPS group leaders claim that since Baba did mock expulsion, therefore they [group leaders] have the right to do genuine expulsion and kick out anyone from AMPS - permanently. But we know that this is just their bogus and egoistic cry. After all, you know that expulsion is not allowed in our Ananda Marga.

at His feet,
Rashmita Devi
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com/

The teaching from Ananda Marga philosophy on this thorny issue of expulsion has been illustrated in the below section.

~ In-depth study ~

Baba’s liila of performing mock expulsions

It was around 1984 that Baba began performing His mock expulsions. Surely many may recall how this unfolded. The first few times Baba did a mock expulsion of a Wt, there was so much intrigue and curiosity. Everyone wanted to know what the person did wrong and how it happened etc. Those workers who knew the Wt who was mock expelled would ask him directly, and those who did not know him well would ask all their friends. It was a big, big deal.

As soon as the Wt was mock expelled he had to remove his avadhuta uniform and start wearing civil dress. The “mock-expelled” Wt did not leave the office vicinity. But they were forbidden from seeing Baba, and no longer held their post etc. Sometimes this mock expulsion lasted a few hours and sometimes it would go on for a few days. But as soon as they were mock expelled, their in-charges would start pleading to Baba on the Wt’s behalf, in hopes of getting the mock-expelled worker reinstated. Baba had created the Liila’ in this way. If any supervisory worker did not advocate for the mock-expelled Wt, then Baba would rebuke them. And if the mock-expelled Wt really left the campus to go back to their family, then immediately Baba would send those in-charges to track down that Wt. Baba would say, “We need Wts for this mission, go get him and bring him back.” And immediately, the in-charge would hustle to the train station or bus depot etc and bring back that Wt.

And verily this drama mounted over the years, whereby Sadguru Baba was regularly expelling this worker or that worker for even the most simplest of reasons. It became so common that other Wts lost interest in finding out who had been mock-expelled and why etc. It was just an ordinary event. And everyone understood that the worker was not really expelled, just it was part of His divine liila.

Why mock expulsions

Baba's plan of doing mock expulsions was done solely for benevolent purposes. In the above story about Dada S, Baba's mock expulsion was His blessing.

Baba's special approach of doing mock expulsions was done for various reasons.

(a) Life is monotonous - day to day living is boring. So in His grand manner Baba would make all kinds of dramas keep life interesting and meaningful. By this bitter-sweet drama of mock expulsion, people would learn to be more sincere in their duties and responsibilities to serve the society.

(b) Life is short and Baba's drama of mock expulsion was aimed at those lethargic people who were not utilising their potential. By this way they understood that their energy not remain forever and they should jump into action and serve.

(c) Sadguru does one particular action - like mock expulsion - and it has such a dynamic and positive effect in all realms of life. By this way, so many became activated and energized to do for the great cause of dharma. This was the great outcome of His mock expulsions.

Misuse of power of AMPS leaders

Today's opportunistic leaders of AMPS could not understand Sadguru Baba’s approach and in result they twisted the expulsion issue into a completely different direction and used it for their own self-serving and political interests. All we can say is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Now those very same opportunists are facing the reaction of their sinful deeds. They themselves== have expelled each other. For such opportunists, their energy should have been used for social service, but instead they did everything for their own selfish power. So they passed their days in infighting, paying lawyers, battling each other. Today those very same opportunists are facing their samskara, and wasting money and time in fighting criminal court cases to avoid  their own  jail sentences for their sin.

In Ananda Marga all are welcome

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us, "Ananda Marga keeps its gates open so that each and every man and woman may enter. Anybody may join, anybody may sing in chorus with the rest. The united march of the people is a march of victory. Ananda Marga states this in unequivocal language." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Suppose somebody is suspended from his job. In his mind the seeds of revolt germinate. He files a court case, contacts so many people, organizes a demonstration, etc. That is the natural reaction to suspension." (2)

Ananda Marga philosophy says,  "If punishment kills or prevents one from progressing along life's path, it may be treated as vice...Instead of hating anyone, the sadvipras will encourage everyone to build good careers. This will be the sadvipra's principle duty. None should feel that they have been doomed forever." (3)

No one can be outcasted

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Ananda Marga has formed a society which frames its laws on the basis of common ideals in order to develop the idea of one-ness of all humanity. This society is radically different from any existing society, for it provides a society with a common bond where there is no distinction between class or sex, where no one is declared an outcast..." (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Harsh social punishment such as creating outcasts...do not find any place in our society." (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Our social life includes all; we do not exclude anything or anyone, nor will we do so in future, because we want to utilise the services of all. Thus we have been able to unite the entire humanity under one banner, and in the future we will perhaps be able to do this in a still better way." (6)

This flower of mine is not found in any garden or in the wild

Prabhat Samgiita Intro: In this song everything is expressed in a very poetic, artistic manner and should not be taken literally i.e on a mundane level.

"Gáner málá tomár tare, genthe rekhechi áj bhore, eso tumi karuńá kare, parábo paráń bhare..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3323)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, since the early dawn, I have prepared this garland of songs for You. O' my Lord, please be gracious and by Your karuńá come close. With heart-felt affection I want to garland You, O’ my Adored One.

O Divine Entity, in hope and preparation of Your arrival, after bathing I wear my holy silk cloth, and carefully I collect flowers of bhakti. O’ Lord, for You, I have decorated the golden wicker tray with rhythm, melodies, and tunes to offer You. I have prepared everything that I wanted for Your auspicious reception. [1] Now I am gazing towards the path of Your arrival.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, this flower of mine is not found in the garden. It does not bloom in the wild. This flower blossoms in the depths of my mind, in my heart - amidst streams of bhakti, in the charming magic upon the strings of the viina, on a secret journey of supreme love for the Unknown. O’ Parama Purusa You are that Unknown Entity. When I cry in longing for You then this song flows from my heart.

I am waiting for You, my dearest Baba. Please grace me..

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #3323:

[1] Arcana: Some Hindu worshipers collect physical articles, lamps, and flowers and do certain rituals to honour and call the Lord. That is arcana. In our Ananda Marga that physical, external, and ritualistic approach does not belong. But if anyone is doing this spontaneously in their contemplation then it is approved - as it has a positive value. But this is not a song to be taken literally on the mundane level. Meditation is a psycho-spiritual practice and bhakti means gaining psycho-spiritual proximity with the Lord. If in their mind, one actually performs the steps outlined in this song then their mind will be goaded towards Parama Purusa. And ultimately the mind will become fully ensconced in deep samadhi where the bhakta feels oneness with Parama Purusa. So the above song can depict what a sadhaka is actually doing in their contemplative approach. If anyone is thinking about or engaging with someone then their proximity with that person increases. That is the practical teaching from this song. And that closeness is bhakti. A sadhaka feels Parama Purusa in the mind - His closeness to ultimately become one with Him.

This song describes how the sadhaka is engaging their mind in meditation. The song may be interpreted as a metaphor, or in a more direct manner because psycho-spiritually the sadhaka really is taking these actual steps in their contemplation. This depicts a bhakta’s strong desire to have the the proximity of Parama Purusa. And when Parama Purusa is not coming close, then see how that bhakta ideates and communicates his feeling with Him.

== Section 3: Important Teaching ==

Pseudo-forgiveness

This following teaching has two main parts:
(a) If someone harms you in personal life and their behaviour is rectified and they feel repentant then you should forgive them - highlighted in green.
(b) If some wrongdoer harms the society then you should force them to rectify themselves - highlighted in yellow.

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, “The faults of others should be excused as far as possible. If you find that the conduct of an individual is antisocial, you should try to reform his or her nature by resorting to whatever severe measures may be necessary. Remember, he or she is not your enemy, but his / her conduct is the enemy of your society.” (1)

Note: You know that in various other teachings Baba says that it is bad to prematurely forgive someone. If the wrongdoer’s conduct is not changed then do not forgive them.

In the world, there are two types of forgiveness. One is real and one is pseudo. In some countries, we see that pseudo-forgiveness is often in vogue. For instance, suppose there are two teenagers, Rob and John. And they get into an argument and Rob kills John. And the police arrest Rob on charges of murder. For this crime Rob felt repentant and then his personality changed. Seeing this transformation, John’s mother said, “I forgive you Rob for killing my son John.” But if that mother does not take active steps to help Rob get parole, then that is just pseudo-forgiveness. She is just offering forgiveness to ease the hatred and pain in her own mind. When the real meaning of forgiveness means helping the rectified culprit. Repentance is not done just for relieving oneself. This is pseudo forgiveness. In real forgiveness efforts should be made to bring the rectified person out of jail.

Why sadness disappears in deep sleep

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Although bodily pleasures are perceived by the mind in the wakeful state, the objects of such pleasures always come from without, with the result that the privations of the external world will always stand in the way of real happiness, as the external world cannot always supply objects in accordance with the desires and wishes of the mind. Due to this the mind has to run up and down in search of them. It becomes very agitated in the process and peace becomes and impossibility. The influence of the external world is absent during the dreamful state, accordingly the amount of pleasure is due to want of efferent desires in the mind or increased organs (for that matter here the desire is not afferent either). In the state of sleep, as the internal activities of the mind are substantially less, the amount of happiness (Static happiness) is proportionately increased.” (1)

Note: In life sometimes tragedy comes. This happens to everyone. And you might have experienced what Baba explains in the above teaching. If you lost your wallet after that you feel asleep then at least during that time of sleep you got some relief. For this reason, those who life is inundated with problems want to sedate themselves and go to sleep.

Should science govern civilisation or vice-versa + 3 more

Baba

Should science govern civilisation or vice-versa

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “What is science? That which teaches the proper use of material things is science. Where the development of civilization is utterly negligible and science gradually attains the apogee of development, science only paves the way for destruction instead of doing any good to humanity. And so, study and practice of science, though unavoidable, should not be given a higher place than civilization.” (1)
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In His above teaching, Sadguru Baba is giving three key  guidelines:

(a) Firstly He addresses, “What is science?” In His explanation, Baba says that there are a wide array of materials created by Parama Purusa on this earth. And such materials must be utilised in the proper way for humans to exist and grow on this earth. Through science, we learn how to use these various materials. For example, through science we learn how to utilise soil to grow food or grain, and we use rivers to make hydroelectric power. These are examples of science.

Good and bad use of science

At the same time we should bear in mind that science may be used positively and negatively, i.e. for the betterment of society as well as for the degradation of society. Through science we may cultivate tobacco to develop medicines that cure diseases. That is a good use of science. Or one may cultivate tobacco in order to sell cigarettes and other harmful agents. That is a bad use of science.

Ultimately, science itself is a blind force; it all depends upon how science is applied - i.e. how people interact with science. Good people use science to make the world a better place and bad people use science to destroy the world.

(b) Secondly, In any society, there are some people who are are guided by their lower propensities. That means they cannot differentiate right or wrong; they are unable to use their rational mind to do what is best. Such persons are uncivilised. If science is used in that way it will be disastrous. Sadly, that is what is happening nowadays.

Civilised people should have full control over science

(c) Science is very much needed but it must be controlled by civilised people. To begin, people should be taught to be civilised. That means all human actions should be supported by logic and reasoning. For example, e-cigarettes are harmful so those who manufacture e-cigarettes and those who smoke them are uncivilised. They are not using their rational mind. Such persons should only be allowed to interact with science when monitored or under the direction of civilised persons. Science must not be used to satisfy one’s whim or selfish agenda. Civilised people must have full control over science. Unfortunately, that is not happening nowadays as science is used to inflict much harm.

The below photo depicts a bad use of science whereby big business is misusing science to build slot machines for gambling. This is a clear-cut case of the misuse and abuse of science. Gambling is a very degrading habit for humanity. It is addictive and escalates greed. Allured by gambling, and devoured by greed, people often lose their entire salary, instead of feeding their families, paying their rent, or caring for their children’s education etc. Such gambling machines are built to produce big profits at the expense of the well-being of the people. In this instance, uncivilised people are controlling the application of science.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “The habit of making wagers is extremely undesirable. You must avoid lotteries and gambling.” (Caryacarya, Part 2, Society, point #38)

“Slot machines are a casino gambling machine that features three or more reels which begin to spin when a button is pressed. Historically, they have also been known as one-armed bandits because previous models had an arm on the left-hand side of the machine instead of the more modern button and also due to the chance of leaving the participant penniless (bandit).” (Courtesy of Wikipedia)

How religious exploiters defeated materialists

Ananda Marga Ideology states, “On deeper analysis we find that the Charvaka and other schools of materialistic philosophy propagated certain doctrines which were more a revolt against the prevailing religions than an expression of a rational and benevolent outlook. They protested loudly against the clergy or religious traders who composed the so-called scriptures in the name of dharma (in fact it was not dharma, but religion); who took advantage of the fear psychosis, in the name of god, to ruthlessly exploit society. The Charvaka and other materialistic philosophies were motivated to strike against religious exploiters. They were fully aware of the way the vested interests exploited society, and they knew that nobody had the right to deprive others of their properties, since every thing of this earth is the common patrimony of all, yet they did not endeavour to lead humans along the path of rationality or formulate a healthy social and spiritual ideology.” (1)

Ananda Marga Ideology states, “The reason for this was that they lacked convincing arguments to stand against the sharp intellect of the vested interests [religious exploiters]. Thus, they merely attempted to negate the fundamental tenets of the vested interests [religious exploiters], often with rather abusive language. Due to the weakness of their argumentation it was easy for the vested interests  [religious exploiters] to emerge and gain strength in the subsequent period.” (2)

Animals also use herbs

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Since the advent of living beings on this earth, medicines have been used. Dogs, cats, snakes, mongooses-- all animals, in fact all beings-- need some kind of medicine in various conditions. When wild animals become sick, they rub their bodies against certain trees and plants to cure their ailments. This shows that all living beings are more or less acquainted with some types of medicine." (1)

Why countries work hard, earn money, and give it to the US to spend

Baba

Why countries work hard, earn money,
and give it to the US to spend

Namaskar,

To understand this section one, please first section two which was swirling around the internet.. And finally read section three which is a more refined of section one. After reading all three sections, kindly tell which of the three sections was the most clear.

== Section 1 ==

Namaskar,

You must have heard that when consumers get scared and do not spend, then economic crisis comes.

You must have also heard that the majority of US citizens do not have savings. So they borrow and spend. And that is the way their economy runs.

From where do they borrow. They borrow from credit card but ultimately that money is coming from China, India, Japan, or from those who have faith in the US treasury, banks, economic institutions, hedge funds, or various bonds and cds etc. They deposit the money. In this way the US gets money and citizens spend money they do not have.

Commonly you must have heard that economists guide to borrow and spend. Otherwise the economy will collapse. But according to Prout borrowing for daily consumption is wrong.

In a Prout article, "Keep the money rolling" (appended below). Baba says that an economic depression comes when money stops moving from one hand to another hand. In a real world scenario if laborers are paid properly and they are producing the goods, and then there will not be any accumulation or hoarding in any individual's pocket / capitalists will not get opportunity to accumulate.

The problem comes when people are working hard and people are not getting paid their fair wages. And the profit of hundreds of billions of dollars gets accumulated by exploiters. So exploiters have money, far more than they need for their existential requirements. Laborers do not have money and they need food to eat. So laborers rely on bank loans and their credit cards for their daily needs. By that way this cycle moves.

But in due course because of any reason if exploiters who have tens of billions if they become fearful of losing money if they invest, then immediately they will start withdrawing from the bank, stock market, investments etc and then there is widespread panic, and everything collapses.

To keep the economy rolling, the formula of borrowing and spending will not always work. Because in certain scenarios like billionaires when they get nervous and take out money from the bank, stock market, investments etc  then everything collapses. The cycle does not move. Those economists who are preaching borrow and spend are wrong.

According to Prout borrowing and spending should only be allowed to produce something, not regular consumption. So what is the ideal way to run the economy.

Society should not allow middle men to cheat the working class and hold money. So if money is not accumulated then naturally money will roll from one hand to another hand. Laborers will produce the goods and consumers will purchase the goods. And fair wages will come back to A to B to C to D to E, and ultimately back to A and whole society will be benefited. Money will keep rolling and it will not accumulate anywhere. When there are fair wages at every step then everyone has proper money to spend and there will not be a situation where a lot of money is accumulated in the hands of the few. Money gets accumulated due to exploitation. So when people have purchasing capacity and economy will run smoothly, and the capitalistic formula to borrow and purchase is flawed and that has been described above. That is the only way out to save the present economic melee.

In Him,
Kalpataru

Amazing logic indeed. This is a crazy world! Interesting article written by an Indian Economist

Japanese save a lot. They do not spend much. Also, Japan exports far more than it imports. Has an annual trade surplus of over 100 billion. Yet Japanese economy is considered weak, even collapsing.

Americans spend, save little. Also US imports more than it exports. Has an annual trade deficit of over $400 billion. Yet, the American economy is considered strong and trusted to get stronger.

But where from do Americans get money to spend? They borrow from Japan, China and even India. Virtually others save for the US to spend. Global savings are mostly invested in US, in dollars.

India itself keeps its foreign currency assets of over $50 billion in US securities. China has sunk over $160 billion in US securities. Japan's stakes in US securities is in trillions.

Result:
The US has taken over $5 trillion from the world. So, as the world saves for the US - It's The Americans who spend freely. Today, to keep the US consumption going, that is for the US economy to work, other countries have to remit $180 billion every quarter, which is $2 billion a day, to the US!

A Chinese economist asked a neat question. Who has invested more, US in China, or China in US? The US has invested in China less than half of what China has invested in US.

The same is the case with India. It have invested in US over $50 billion. But the US has invested less than $20 billion in India.

Why the world is after US?

The secret lies in the American spending, that they hardly save. In fact they use their credit cards to spend their future income. That the US spends is what makes it attractive to export to the US. So US imports more than what it exports year after year.

The result:

The world is dependent on US consumption for its growth. By its deepening culture of consumption, the US has habituated the world to feed on US consumption. But as the US needs money to finance its consumption, the world provides the money.

It's like a shopkeeper providing the money to a customer so that the customer keeps buying from the shop. If the customer will not buy, the shop won't have business, unless the shopkeeper funds him. The US is like the lucky customer. And the world is like the helpless shopkeeper financier.

Who is America's biggest shopkeeper financier? Japan of course. Yet it's Japan which is regarded as weak. Modern economists complain that Japanese do not spend, so they do not grow. To force the Japanese to spend, the Japanese government exerted itself, reduced the savings rates, even charged the savers. Even then the Japanese did not spend (habits don't change, even with taxes, do they?). Their traditional postal savings alone is over $1.2 trillion. Thus, savings, far from being the strength of Japan, has become its pain.

Hence, what is the lesson?

That is, a nation cannot grow unless the people spend, not save. Not just spend, but borrow and spend.

Dr. Jagdish Bhagwati, the famous Indian-born economist in the US, told Manmohan Singh that Indians wastefully save. Ask them to spend, on imported cars and, seriously, even on cosmetics! This will put India on a growth curve. This is one of the reason for MNC's coming down to India, seeing the consumer spending.

'Saving is sin, and spending is virtue.' But before you follow this Neo Economics, get some fools to save so that you can borrow from them and spend !!!

The world is in a economical mess 😅- interesting read😜😜😜😜

Namaskar,

It is commonly known that when consumers get scared about the state of the economy then they do not spend their money. That slows the economy even more and spurs an economic crisis. Most are also aware that the majority of US citizens do not have any savings. So they borrow and spend. That is the way their economy runs.

Those US consumers borrow directly from their credit card, or from their bank, but ultimately that borrowed money is coming from China, India, Japan, or from those who have faith in the US treasury, banks, economic institutions, hedge funds, or various bonds and cds etc. Those investors deposit their money in those various institutions. In this way the US gets money and their citizens spend money they do not have.

One of the slogans of economists is: “borrow and spend.” Otherwise the economy will collapse. But according to Prout, borrowing for one’s daily consumption is wrong. In a Prout article, “Keep the Money Rolling”, Shrii Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar says that an economic depression comes when money stops moving from one hand to another hand. In a real world scenario, if laborers are paid properly and they are producing goods, then there will not be any accumulation or hoarding in any individual's pocket. Then capitalists will not get opportunity to accumulate.

The problem comes when people are working hard yet are not getting paid their fair wages. Instead, all the profits of hundreds of billions of dollars gets stockpiled by the exploiters. In that case, the exploiters have far more money than they need for their existential requirements. While laborers do not have the requisite money to maintain their day to day lives. So laborers rely on bank loans and their credit cards for their daily needs. In this way the cycle moves, but it is a slippery slope.

Because in due course, if for any reason the exploiters become fearful of losing money on their investments, immediately they will start withdrawing their tens of billions from the banks, stock market, and various holdings etc. This results in widespread panic, and everything collapses.

To keep the economy rolling, the formula of borrowing and spending does not work over the long haul. Because in certain scenarios such as when billionaires get nervous and take out money from the bank, stock market, others investments etc, then the whole economy nosedives. The cycle does not move. Those economists who preach “borrow and spend” are wrong. According to Prout borrowing and spending should only be allowed in order to produce something, not just for regular, daily consumption.

So then what is the ideal way to run the economy? Society should not allow middle men to cheat the working class and stockpile money. If money does not over-accumulate in the coffers of the wealthy elite, then naturally money will roll from one hand to another hand. Laborers will produce goods and consumers will purchase those goods. And fair wages will come back to A to B to C to D to E, and ultimately back to A and whole society will be benefited. Money will keep rolling and it will not accumulate anywhere.

When there are fair wages at every step of the economy, then everyone has adequate money to spend, and there will not be a situation where a lot of money is accumulated in the hands of the few. Money only gets over-accumulated due to exploitation. So when people have purchasing capacity the economy will run smoothly. The capitalistic formula of “borrow and spend” is flawed. Following the principles of Prout is the only way out to save the present economic melee.

Keep Money Rolling – Excerpt B

21 December 1986, Calcutta

The value of money increases with its mobility. That is, the more that money changes hands, the greater its economic value. On the other hand, the more that money is kept immobile in a safe, the more it loses its utility, and thus its economic value decreases. This is the most fundamental principle of economics.

The banking system is indispensable for promoting both collective welfare and the all-round economic advancement of people. The maxim, “Keep money rolling,” is as true as the proverb, “Keep the wagons moving.”

The banking system must be vigilant about two important points. First, the intrinsic demonic greed of the banks must not be allowed to jeopardize the life of the common people. In the past in most countries of the world the banks threatened the life of the common people. This more or less still occurs today not only in undeveloped countries, but also in developing and developed countries. Secondly, the banks must not allow unwise administrators or governments to print monetary notes indiscriminately without reserving the proportionate amount of bullion in their treasuries.

The first defect not only ruins low and middle income groups, but also impoverishes wealthy people. The second defect destroys the very life of society. It leads to widespread inflation, which in turn jeopardizes internal trade and commerce as well as foreign trade and barter. Even if there is abundant production in a country, the common people do not benefit. The rich become richer and get more scope to continue their merciless exploitation. In state capitalism, the exploitative rulers tighten their grip over society even more. State capitalism may call itself capitalism, socialism or communism, but ultimately it stands before the masses as more dangerous and bloodthirsty than bloodsucking ghouls and demons.

The banking system must continue, otherwise the mobility of money will be hindered. If people oppose the banking system because they are guided by selfish whims or any other sentiment, then their economy will stay in the dark ages. They are bound to lose equipoise and equilibrium in the physical sphere, remain lopsided in the psychic and spiritual spheres, and reduce themselves to objects of ridicule. It is very sad to imagine such a state.

So you see, the fundamental aim of the banking system is, “Keep money rolling.” Let governments be active. Let people purchase as much rice, pulses, vegetables, oil, salt, sugar, etc., as they can with money. Let money go to the grocers, the sugar cane vendors, the confectioners, the factory workers, the labourers and the weavers. And let the colourful saris of the weavers be purchased and worn by the newly married brides, adding to the beauty and prosperity of society.

Silent Action is useless + 3 more

Baba

SA is useless in some situations

Namaskar,

As we know silent action is one very special and deeply meaningful teaching which Sadguru Baba has given. And it works in its own particular and special way.  Just as various asanas work to cure particular diseases, silent action has its unique way of opposing injustices and bringing people onto the proper path. It works within its own specific sphere of influence or jurisdiction - and not beyond that. Unfortunately, some are trying to capitalise on the situation by telling that “silent action is the only way to approach or protest.”
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

How they manipulate silent action

Certain are Wts are misguiding others about silent action. They say, “If this or that group leader is doing something wrong and committing all sorts of injustices like curtailing margii rights, then if you are unhappy with them then just do silent action.”

Yet all the while those opportunists are fully aware that the margii whom they are speaking with lives far, far away from Tiljala or Ananda Nagar and that he has no opportunity to see those top group leaders. Even then to befool that very simple margii, they tell him to take silent action. But in such a situation silent action will never work. Because the physical distance between the two parties is too great.

For instance, you can imagine what will happen if simple village folk of Afghanistan take silent action against top US officials. Such an attempt will be complete foolishness. Because silent action has its limitation. Its hinterland is very limited. If the person is not living around you, nor in your unit, nor in your village, nor in your family, and is not in your direct line of communication, then silent action will not work.

Silent action's arena is limited to the reach of one's pathway of direct communication. If one has regular communication with that particular person then silent action will achieve the desired effect. But if one does not have any communication with that person, then taking silent action against them is useless.

Conclusion

It is essential that each and every Ananda Margii be acutely aware of how silent action really works. Here below Baba guides us:

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Silent action will force strict adherence to our principles, and it will put those against whom it is directed to shame." (1)

So the operative factor is that silent action creates a sense of shame - i.e. the wrongdoer feels ashamed of their misdeeds. Through circumstantial pressure silent action achieves this result. But direct contact is needed. If someone is sitting quietly in one part of the globe taking silent action against the exploiting party who is far away, then it will not work. The wrongdoer will not feel any shame as they are completely unaware that anyone is even taking silent action against them. So they will continue on with their exploitation. That is why in that circumstance silent action will not work. In that scenario we should consider another way to proceed.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Mahesh
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

One very important alternative approach is consciousness raising: Raising the ideological standard across the globe about the deeper aspects of Ananda Marga ideology. When all are aware about their rights and Baba's teachings, naturally proper corrective measures will be taken. The requisite social pressure will be created and our organisation will be cleaned.

I was wrongly thinking that You are far away from me

"Dure bhevechi toma'y, ka'che ta'kiye dekhini..." (Prabhat Samgiita #4702)

Purport:

Baba, in my life, all along in the past, I was thinking that You are far away from me. I always imagined that You are distant. I never cared to look closely, otherwise I would have understood that You are not far. Although You filled me with a nectar-like tune, but I did not realise that You loved me so much.

O’ Parama Purusa, by Your grace, today I understand that since eternity You have been with me, inside me like the sweet nectar in the flower. Though, in the past, because of my materialistic bent of mind I could not understand my real self, I was wondering who You are. I could not realise what is the relation between You and I. But now, by Your grace it is clear.

Baba, You personally told me and made me understand that You are mine and mine alone. You whispered in my ears, “Look within your mind, search Me inside. Those  looking for Me inside, always get Me with the closest proximity in their sadhana, dhyana. They are my closest.”

By Your grace today I feel in my heart that You are mine and mine alone, my dearmost Baba...

Importance of His coming as Taraka Brahma

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Now why does He come in contact with the quinquelemental factors? Why does He come within the jurisdictions of the temporal-spatial-personal factors, these three fundamentally-related factors?  What's the cause?  There are two reasons. One thing is, the human intellect may get satisfaction after coming in psychic contact with the Impersonal Entity, but the human heart is not satisfied with that Impersonal Entity. The human heart wants something closer, something more sentimental, something more pleasing. And that's why just to satisfy, just to give pleasure to, His progeny, He comes within the scope of these relative factors.  Parama Purus'a becomes Ta'raka Brahma. And the second reason is that in this created world, in this universe, each and every progress is a progress through clashes and cohesion.  And human beings must have sufficient intellectual stamina to move forward, fighting against all those pebbles of obstacles.  When the human intellect fails to do something new in helping society to move forward, Parama Purus'a finds no alternative but to bring Himself within the scope of the temporal-spatial-personal factors just to guide the depraved and degenerate human society." (1)

Note: In the above guideline, there are two distinct points. According to Ananda Marga philosophy, firstly, Parama Purusa graciously comes as Taraka Brahma to satisfy the longing of His bhaktas who yearn to have a personal relationship with the Supreme Entity. Secondly, Parama Purusa has come as Taraka Brahma to wipe away the existing dogmas and hurdles give the guidelines to build up a bright, new human society.

When Parama Purusa remains as an impersonal Entity then the heart of the devotee does not get satisfied. And when He comes in human form and teaches and guides the way to reach to Him, then He teaches sadhana also. And with that support, bhaktas reach Him.

The process of dhyana can link from form to formlessness. That is why the culmination of dhyana is the merging into formlessness - dissolving the mind.

Bhaktas always feels that Baba is residing in their heart. We see in the history of mysticism, each and every bhakta in the world felt that the Parama Purusa is with them. Bhaktas feel that Baba is living in their heart.
