Balanced life: the pratiika + 4 more

Baba
Balanced life: the pratiika

Namaskar,

Baba has placed great importance on the meaning and use of our Ananda Marga pratiika. Here below is a short explanation of the pratiika and how it is related with our way of life.

1. The two, perfectly-balanced equilateral triangles in our pratiika represent the manipura cakra (i.e. 3rd cakra) and the ajina cakra (i.e. 6th cakra).
2. The manipura cakra is symbolised by the triangle pointed upward signifying service to society. This cakra gives the body energy and stamina to do action in the world.
3. The ajina cakra is symbolised by the triangle pointed downward signifying spiritual sadhana and self-realisation. The ajina cakra is the seat of the mind.
4. We should practise and represent this symmetry in our day to day life by keeping perfect balance between our meditation (sadhana) and worldly work (social service).
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Balance vs imbalance

5. Our mission is: Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca. A'tmamokśárthaḿ (self-realisation) is represented by the downward pointed triangle (i.e. ajina cakra) in our pratiika; jagaddhitáya ca (selfless service) is represented by the upward pointed triangle (i.e. manipura cakra) in our pratiika.

6. Maintaining balance between these two triangles - representing spiritual practice for self-realisation & selfless service to humanity - is needed. As sadhakas, we should be in perfect balance just like our pratiika. That means we should do maximum sadhana without losing our adjustment with this world; and we should do maximum social service without forgetting our sadhana.

7. When we maintain perfect balance between our inner world (downward pointed triangle) and the outer world (upward pointed triangle) then by His grace we will achieve all-round progress (signified by the rising sun in our pratiika) and ultimately victory (signified by the swastika in our pratiika).

8. Reaching this state is not easy. Unfortunately, we often see aspirants fail to maintain proper balance in life. Most commonly, people get too caught up in their worldly work and their sadhana gets neglected. In some cases, the opposite happens. So we must constantly assess our position and strive to keep a balance between our inner and outer worlds.

Golden rule - key to success

One very important slogan in Ananda Marga is subjective approach through objective adjustment. But some confused people have no clue about this and they follow the opposite approach. They think that in this world one should adjust with whatever society is demanding, and compromise on the dharmic rules and disciplines of Ananda Marga teachings. If one is a sadhaka and if the joint family is eating tamasik food then adjust with them by also eating tamasik food. Their motto is that you have to live in the society so do not start quarrelling with them, just adopt their way of life. This aforesaid manner is the bogus way.

Right way: subjective approach through objective adjustment

The right way and the real explanation is as follows. Subjective approach means that your entire existential approach is subjective and the Goal is Parama Purusa. So from morning to midnight and from birth to death, whatever you do - do not forget that your goal is Parama Purusa. You have been given a human body for the sole purpose of realising Him. This is the subjective approach.

With regards to objective adjustment, this was completely forgotten by Shrii Shankaracarya as his philosophy only accepts the subjective approach. They reject the existence of the objective world. Whereas in materialistic philosophies like capitalism and communism, the objective world is everything and there is no subjective approach. The ideal approach is Ananda Marga ideology. The Goal is Parama Purusa and this ideal should be kept firmly in the mind; at the same time, one should live in this world while following Sixteen Points and various dos and don’ts. One should adjust with the world as long as the march towards Parama Purusa is not hindered. That is the main thing.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Under the excuse of objective adjustment

Those who are confused delete Parama Purusa from this equation. That is why they degenerate. They eat all kinds of tamasik items and live in a static manner, under the excuse of objective adjustment. And in result they never grow spiritually.

The concluding idea is that that subjective approach through objective adjustment means being focused on Parama Purusa, and adjusting with the world by maintaining dharmic life practices, and not rejecting the existence of the world like Hindu yogis. Rather we should recognise that this world exists and we have to live in this world. To adjust properly Baba has given all sorts of conduct rules and dharmic guidelines that need to be followed strictly.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Opposite way or flip-flop

Unfortunately, nowadays this formula of subjective approach through objective adjustment is almost forgotten or just plain abused, especially when certain Wts preach the exact opposite. 24 hours they think about this or that project, or earning money, or doing something mundane. They think that is the main ticket. And then in the morning and evening they curtail their sadhana etc. So that is the opposite way or flip-flop. The ideal is that all the 24hrs everything is done to improve sadhana. The Goal is Parama Purusa and social service is just to serve Him. The negative way is that Parama Purusa is secondary and mundane achievements like building roads and schools is the main thing. That is the misconception prevalent nowadays. Due to this we are (a) losing our cadre and (b) incapable of doing something substantial in service to humanity.

Conclusion

It is unfortunate that this vital formula which is steering our Ananda Marga way of life is not only misunderstood, but getting turned around in reverse these days. Now is the time to cultivate the right understanding and wholly embrace the ethic that our Goal is Parama Purusa and we are not to reject the existence of the world like Shankaracarya. Rather we have to live in this world and maintain this human body. For that, we have to follow Sixteen Points, dos and don’ts, and serve the society. And always remember that the main aim of this entire life is realising Parama Purusa. So all the 24 hrs one should keep focused on Him. That is our cherished ideal; everything else is futile. For this reason we have been blessed with a human life.

~ In-depth study ~

"Human life is a mission"

Here the point is that we should not just wear our pratiika around the neck, but our daily life should be a proper reflection of the pratiika, i.e. perfectly balance between service to society and self-realisation. That means our life should comprehensively represent Ananda Marga ideology.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "What should a person do? Life is a mission. I have said that human life is an ideological flow. That is, human life is a mission; life itself is a mission; one’s very existence is a mission. Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca – “Whatever one is to do one is to do for átmamokśa – for his or her own liberation – and for the elevation of the entire world, elevation of the entire human society.” One is to do both these things: that is, these two things are one’s mission." (1)

How our pratiika is used

Here below are some of the key ways our pratiika is used in our Ananda Marga way of life:

(A) At dharmacakra, we may display the Ananda Marga pratiika.

(B) Next Baba describes the role of the pratiika when our acaryas perform diiksa (initiation).

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Initiation in Prárambhika, Sádhárańa and, in special cases, Sahaja Yoga will be done before the pratiika [emblem]." (2)

(C) When an Ananda Marga marriage is performed, then the pratiika will be given its rightful place.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The pratiika [emblem of Ananda Marga] should be placed in an elevated place in the marriage hall.” (3)

(D) During DMC when Baba was up on the stage then there would always be a pratiika on display behind Him. Still today at DMS we present Baba's photo and behind His photo is the pratiika.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba's description of the pratiika

Here is Baba's explanation of the pratiika.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Your Pratiika [Emblem]: A triangle with one vertex up superimposed on another triangle with one vertex down, with the rising sun having a swastika inside. These are symbols of energy, knowledge, advancement and permanent victory, respectively." (4)

Here below is the dharmic way the publishers have explained the pratiika on the inside pages of recently printed Ananda Marga books.

The pratiika represents in a visual way the essence of Ananda Marga ideology. The six-pointed star is composed of two equilateral triangles. The triangle pointing upward represents action, or the outward flow of energy through selfless service to humanity. The triangle pointing downward represents knowledge, the inward search for spiritual realization through meditation. The sun in the center represents advancement, all-round human progress. The goal of the aspirant's march through life is symbolized by the swastika, which means spiritual victory.

Nearest & sweetest

"(Mor), d́ákáte ásoniko krpáte ele, d́eke gechi nija man bhúláte..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3681)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, when I invoke Your name You never come. You appear only out of Your eternal compassion on me. Even then, I go on calling You, again and again, just to quench my longing. Baba, You never pay heed or give any response to high-sounding, ostentatious recitations or religious sermons in Samskrta, Hebrew, Classical Hebrew, Arabic, Pali, Greek, Old Chinese etc. You do not care about verbosity or any superficial rituals. You are only moved by the feeling of the heart. Repeating dry hymns devoid of bhakti can't melt Your core. You are drawn near by one’s sincere love.

O’ Parama Purusa, Baba, You are my nearest and sweetest. You are aware about my entire being, listening to all my thoughts, and seeing my every action. You understand all there is to know about me. When my mind is drowned in vanity, You are ever-ready to be held in my grasp, after removing the smog of my ego.

Hari, Parama Purusa, whatever chants, recitations, sadhana, asanas, bhajans, kiirtana, pranayama, puja’, dhyana, spiritual practices, or meditation I perform, it is only for getting You, and satisfying and satiating You. As You are fully aware about my foolishness and shallow bhakti, kindly saturate the deep core of my soul with the sweetness of prema. Please shower me with Your causeless grace and make my life successful.

Baba, when I was calling You did not come; but You have come now. It is Your karuna’. Your liila is unfathomable...

When people can multi-task

The typical person has numerous aims. For example, they want to be the king, president, billionaire, film hero, sports star, musical icon etc. In that sense, the average person is multi-purpose. But at the same time living beings are unilateral. We can only do one work at one time. People talk about multi-tasking, but it is an impossibility for unit beings. The mind cannot do two works at the same time. And if one tries to multi-task, their mind will become bifurcated and ultimately degenerated, and / or they will find themselves in a terrible accident.

Best is to do one task at one time. By cultivating that quality in sadhana humans become one with Parama Purusa. By doing sadhana and with His grace, the aspirant does become one with Parama Purusa. And then, after losing their individuality, they can work multilaterally - i.e. in all directions. Till then, do not try and do many works at one time.

Only one direction, at one time

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Microcosm is multipurposive but its flow is unilateral. On the other hand, Macrocosm is uni-purpose but its flow is multilateral. There is no end to the desires of microcosm. Sometimes it desires fame and sometimes it desires money. But it can make itself travel at one time in one direction only. His mind cannot be simultaneously engaged in a book and in a football game. While reading, if he thinks of the football game his mind is diverted from the book. Similarly, he cannot enjoy the football game if in the football game he begins to think about his books. Hence, the flow of the unit is unilateral. It travels only in one direction, at one time, whereas Macrocosm is uni-purpose but multilateral. There is only one thought of Macrocosm and that is the well-being of all. This is His one sole purpose. Yet Macrocosm is a multi-lateral flow. He does many things simultaneously. He is feeding you, creating the world, making rivers, canals and birds. Everything is being created in His mind. Hence there is much variety in His mind.” (1)

Wt life: sadhana in AMPS draws ridicule

Please pay particular attention to the highlighted yellow section.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Each individual has to keep physically and mentally pure and serve the society in the best possible manner. The collective psychic momenta of all the members of society makes the collective momentum of the social order strong and powerful. Hence, as an individual, one must be able to manifest and express a powerful psychic momentum. Society must not impose any restriction on the psychic and spiritual elevation of its members, nor should it allow anyone to accumulate physical wealth to the point that it is harmful to the other members of society and leads to exploitation.” (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Caryacarya contains the guidelines for how an individual can best contribute his or her efforts to the collective momentum. It also provides guidelines for how the collective body shall foster each individual’s physical and psychic welfare." (1)

In His above teaching, Baba is talking about both the development of the individual and the society. The citation concludes with this key guideline highlighted in yellow.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Society must not impose any restriction on the psychic and spiritual elevation of its members." (1)

Unfortunately, this above tenet is not always followed in our AMPS society. Those who are sincere in sadhana and Sixteen Points are often ridiculed. Some Wts are especially bent on mocking and speaking sarcastically about any junior worker who is committed to their sadhana. Actually what happens is that margiis are attracted to those acaryas who do more sadhana. Seeing this, big, supervisory workers became extremely jealous. So they do everything in their power to derail that sincere Wts from the path of sadhana. They bully and mock that worker endlessly. And verily, some wts have buckled under such pressure - sadly they became completely broken. This is the very tragic state of affairs that has been in vogue since 1990. Many have suffered. How ironic is it that ours is a socio-spiritual organisation, yet if one is really sincere in their asana, conduct rules, night sadhana, spiritual practices etc they are mocked by certain top Dadas. The whole situation is shameful.

What happens to those puffed up in vanity

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In this world various persons occupy various exalted posts, and because of their posts they enjoy social respect and position. “But however high their rank may be, they pray to the Lord, saying, ‘O Lord, I exist by Your grace – protect me, O Lord.’” So the Lord is controlling everyone, whatever may be their post. The moment one transgresses one’s jurisdiction out of vanity or ego, one is removed from that post. Whenever one misuses or abuses one’s authority, the Lord pushes the person out, and the person falls on his knees. This is the rule. The Lord is controlling everything; He does not tolerate the abuse of power or authority by anyone. In fact, one of His names is Darpahárii [Stealer of Vanity]. He does not tolerate anyone’s darpa [vanity]. We see in practical life that people may be seated today in the most exalted position in society, but if they grossly abuse their position, they will meet with such a great fall that their bones and skin will be altogether beyond recognition.”
"It is only when the human beings, become puffed up with vanity and misuse the power granted to them by Parama Purus'a, that He steals everything from them. Hence, He is called Darpaha'rii - the stealer of vanity...Vain people suffer a similar fate when their vanity is destroyed as the balloon faces when its air is let out. But, does Parama Purus'a snatch away everything from everyone? No, He takes away only when the unit beings try to create obstructions in the flow of His creation." (1)

Note: In His above teaching, Baba warns us about the fate of arrogant people. As we know, the ultimate antidote to vanity is developing a spiritual link in life and surrendering to the sweet will of Parama Purusa. Then, in that case, extreme arrogance and vanity will not get scope to crop up and ruin one's personae. For their welfare, Parama Purusa pulverizes their ego. He destroys and crushes their feelings of vanity. When their ego is crushed, they learn their lesson. If afterwards they are still alive they become humble and stop terrorizing others. They become proper human beings. That is why one of the names of the Lord is Darpaha'rii - destroyer of vanity.

Baba’s joke about communism + 4 more

Baba
Baba’s joke about communism

Namaskar,

Baba advised some LFTs that it is very important to interweave philosophical teachings with jokes. Baba explained that if you just preach one philosophical point after another, the people will get bored. So the way to be successful in gathering a crowd for a street corner meeting is to make people laugh. Here we learn from Sadguru Baba why laughter is an important element when giving a talk or making a presentation to the public.

Baba began, "Everybody knows the communist leaders have some favourite slogans, ‘Those who work in the factory are the owners of the factory, and those who plow the field are the owners of the land’."
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Reply of ridiculous slogan of communist

After all, if the worker in the factory is the owner of the factory and the farmer who wields the plow is the owner of the land, then the masseuse who gives the massage is the owner of the body, and the chef who prepares the food is the owner of the meal, the street-sweeper who cleans the street is the owner of the road, the doctor who operates on the patient is the owner of the patient, the plumbers and electricians who do work on the house are the owners of the house, and the dentist who checks and treats a patient's teeth is the owner of the mouth, and a mechanic who repairs a car or bike is that owner of that car or bike.

Baba is pointing out the ridiculous and hypocritical ways of communism: Working in a factory does not make one the factory owner, and plowing the field does not transfer ownership to the farmer. No right-thinking person can think like this. The overall idea is that Baba is teaching us that when giving a lecture then we should employ humour that will be easily understood by the local people.

Here it should be understood that the above slogans, which are used by communists to rouse the sentiment of the people, are actually diametrically opposite of the philosophy expressed in the Communist Manifesto which states that all the land belongs to the state. The communists use the slogan - "Those who wield the plough are the owners of the land" - in countries where the government is not communist and they want to gain the sympathy of the people; and when in a fully controlled communist country then they resort to the latter slogan of the Communist Manifesto which states that all land belongs to the state. This is their deceptive, devious, and hypocritical manner.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Real owner

According to Prout, Parama Purusa is the ultimate Owner of everything because He created this entire universe and all are His progeny. So everyone has the God-given right to enjoy this created world and utilise it in the proper manner. All should have access to the minimum requirement for their personal care and survival. That degree of ownership all should have. Plus those with special talents and merits may get more - but only after all have minimum needs met. The gross over-accumulation and seemingly unlimited collection of wealth and property is not condoned by Prout. Thus Prout is radically different from capitalism. The unbarred over-accumulation of physical pabula while other starve is unacceptable in the Proutistic model.

Conclusion: Why humour is essential in classes & meetings

The central idea of this entire letter is that it is very important to interweave philosophical teachings with jokes. Sadguru Baba explained that if you just preach one philosophical point after another, the people will get bored. So the way to be successful in leading any class or talk is to make people laugh through stories, jokes, humour, and engaging tales. By that way the slumber and inertia of the audience will dissipate and they will feel refreshed to listen attentively to your thoughts.

Namaskar,
at His lotus feet,
Prabha’

About that unforgettable LFT reporting session with Baba

In 1988, in one of Baba's regularly held LFT reporting sessions He focused on how to conduct street corner meetings. Then, in His magnificent and charming manner, Baba presented one joke that those LFTs of  samaj & Prout could use for their street corner meetings. With a grand smile, Baba told: "If the worker in the factory is the owner of the factory, and if the farmer who wields the plough is the owner of the land, then the barber who wields the scissors is the owner of the head."
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

So in that unforgettable LFT reporting session Baba, in His divine and unique manner, made the above humorous remark. Hearing Baba's dramatic delivery and colourful analogy, everyone present immediately erupted into laughter. The room was full of people giggling. Here again is Baba's marvelous joke: "If the worker in the factory is the owner of the factory, and if the farmer who wields the plow is the owner of the land, then the barber who wields the scissors is the owner of the head."

It is ludicrous to think that the barber owns the person's head whose hair he (the barber) is cutting. So that is the humorous joke Baba told to those LFTs doing pracara in a few of the areas riddled by communism.

Entire wealth of the universe is the common patrimony

Prout philosophy states, “None of the movable or immovable property of this universe belongs to any particular individual; everything is the common patrimony of all, and the Father of all is Brahma. All living beings can enjoy their rightful share of this property, like members of a joint family in the Dáyabhága system. As members of a joint family, human beings should safeguard this common property in a befitting manner and utilize it properly. They should also make proper arrangements so that everyone can enjoy it with equal rights, ensuring that all have the minimum requirements of life to enable them to live in a healthy body with a sound mind.” (1)

Prout philosophy states, “We must not forget, even for a single moment, that the entire animate world is a vast joint family. Nature has not assigned any portion of this property to any particular individual. Private ownership has been created by selfish opportunists, as the loopholes in this system provide them with ample scope for self-aggrandizement through exploitation. When the entire wealth of the universe is the common patrimony of all living beings, can the system in which some roll in luxury, while others, deprived of a morsel of food, shrivel up and starve to death bit by bit, be said to have the support of dharma?” (2)

They suck dry the vital juice of others

Prout philosophy states, “In a joint family every member is provided with adequate food, clothing, education and medical treatment, and amenities, as per their individual needs, according to the financial capacity of the entire family. If, however, any member of the family appropriates more grains, clothes, books or medicines than he or she requires, will that person not be the cause of distress to other members of the family? In such circumstances his or her actions will be certainly against dharma – certainly antisocial. Similarly, the capitalists of this modern world are anti-dharma, or antisocial, creatures. To accumulate massive wealth, they reduce others to skin and bones gnawed by hunger and force them to die of starvation; to dazzle people with the glamour of their garments, they compel others to wear rags; and to increase their own vital strength, they suck dry the vital juice of others.” (3)

Prout philosophy states, “A member of a joint family cannot be called a social being if he or she does not possess the sentiment of oneness with the other members, or if he or she does not want to accept the lofty ideal of joint rights and the principle of rationality. According to true spiritual ideology the system of private ownership cannot be accepted as absolute and final, and hence capitalism cannot be supported either.” (4)

Are you the owner or who is the owner?

According to Prout, Parama Purusa is the ultimate Owner of everything because He created this entire universe and all are His progeny. So everyone has the God-given right to enjoy this created world and utilise it in the proper manner. All should have access to the minimum requirement for their personal care and survival. That degree of ownership all should have. Plus those with special talents and merits may get more - but only after all have minimum needs met. The gross over-accumulation and seemingly unlimited collection of wealth and property is not condoned by Prout. Thus Prout is radically different from capitalism. The unbarred over-accumulation of physical pabula while other starve is unacceptable in the Proutistic model.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Prout philosophy states, “Parama Puruśa [Supreme Consciousness] is my Father, Paramá Prakrti [Supreme Operative Principle] is my Mother, and the universe is my homeland. We are all citizens of this universe. The universe is the thought projection of the Macrocosmic Mind, and it is in the extroversial and introversial phases of the Cosmic imaginative flow that the creation, preservation and destruction of all entities continues. When an individual imagines an object, then that person alone, and no one else, is the owner of the object. For example, when an imaginary human being roams about in an imaginary green field, the imaginer, and not the imaginary person, is the owner of the field. The universe is the thought projection of Brahma [the Supreme Entity], so the ownership of the universe lies with the Supreme Entity, and not with His imagined beings.” (5)

Plagiary?

It is the accepted international standard and Baba's system not to copy another's work and publish it in your own way. Baba has given a very strict rule on plagiarism. Why is Baba against plagiarism or stealing someone's work? There are many reasons:

1) It is against the code of asteya (non-stealing).

2) Countless stories of bhaktas need to be published. But some do not want to do the hard work of compiling and writing these stories, so they just steal them from others. But new stories need to be told, otherwise so many unpublished stories of sadhakas will be lost and forgotten forever. So watch out for story thieves, and kindly help them not to steal by posting on social media in their own way. If you want to forward this story then attach the following yellow section with the story:

This will be treated as the standard protocol.

Example of weak mind

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Let me give another example of what happens when one loses control over the nerve fibres. Some people are so crazy about football that they dream of the game while sleeping. What is a dream? When we think during the wakeful state our conscious mind operates and we understand that we are thinking inwardly. But when we think during the state of sleep, the conscious mind does not work and we wrongly think the objects thought of are real. So a football fan who dreams about the game while sleeping may shout, “Gooaal! Gooaal!” and start kicking left and right with his legs. Clearly, his nerve cells have lost control of the nerve fibres.” (1)

Before sadhana

Here is the English summary of Baba’s Hindi teaching of Átmatiirtha, V24 25(H), 22 Nov 71 Purnea, Bihar.

After involving in mundane works one is generally plunged in worldly thoughts. So then if one sits in sadhana, in the mind you will think that 'Tomorrow I will go to Arariya town. Indeed I have to go in the morning. I will have to catch the first bus'. You will sit in sadhana and go on thinking like this. In this situation what should you do? Before sitting for sadhana you should do kiirtan-- either 2 min, or 5 min, or 10 min. So first one should do kiirtan. Because by doing kiirtan the mind will get elevated. After that immediately one should sit in sadhana. Then you will see that there will not be any worldly thoughts. Then sadhana will be proper...Do not worry; you have learned sadhana and I am always ready to help and serve you. (English Summary, V24 25(H), 22 Nov 71)

Note: Every sincere Ananda Margii wants to do sadhana. Yet most of the time this aforesaid problem occurs. And our Guru understands this. That is why He has graciously given such a beautiful solution-- as mentioned above. I think many may be following His divine guideline; and for those who are not, they should do so from now onwards, i.e. sing kiirtan before doing sadhana.

Alert: TP’s gross flaws in YT book

Here is the way Tiljala Publication has published the below paragraph in the Yogic Treatments book. Pay special attention to the yellow highlighted terms.

Tiljala Publications wrote: "Taking excessive fatty and oily food and not undertaking a proportional amount of physical labour loads the human nervous system down with fat, and as a result it becomes impossible for the nerves to properly assist the heart. As a result the heart becomes weak. Fat accumulated in the nerves and blood vessels terribly hampers the blood circulation, and in order to maintain the circulation, the heart is forced to overwork. As a consequence the heart soon becomes weak." (1)

By reading the above, it is clear that the yellow highlighted terms in the above passage are incorrect.

Corrected version

Here below are the suggested changes in bracketed bold red font to correct the blunders by Tiljala Publications.

"Taking excessive fatty and oily food and not undertaking a proportional amount of physical labour loads the human nervous system [circulatory system] down with fat, and as a result it becomes impossible for the nerves [arteries] to properly assist the heart. As a result the heart becomes weak. Fat accumulated in the nerves [arteries] and blood vessels terribly hampers the blood circulation, and in order to maintain the circulation, the heart is forced to overwork. As a consequence the heart soon becomes weak." (2)

Note: Any person, young or old, who has taken even the most basic level class in biology or human anatomy will easily realize that the way the Tiljala Publications presented this section is completely wrong. Sadguru Baba is the all-knowing Taraka Brahma, and it is our duty to ensure that His books are published with the highest accuracy and utmost integrity. Sadly, time and time again, Tiljala Publications proves that their work is flawed and clearly not up to the mark.

About protozoic & metazoic mind

Ananda Marga ideology states, “The protozoic minds are guided by instinct only. The protozoic mind is citta only, with no development of ahaḿ[tattva] or mahattattva. Ingesting food, supporting offspring – this is all done instinctively, according to their svabháva [spontaneously], the reasons being quite unknown to those creatures. The earthworm does not know that it is an earthworm. It moves instinctively, spontaneously, according to its undeveloped mind. The protozoic minds and the protozoic microcosm can be said to be the physical mind. A protozoic creature has only physical mind. The collection of protozoic minds in the human can be said to be the physical mind of the human, known as the [kámamaya kośa]. It is guided by instinct, there is no discrimination.”
“But the metazoic mind moves with some intellect, or discrimination, as there has been some development of intellect in it. Hence the metazoic mind has control over the protozoic mind. The more the metazoic mind is developed in a creature, the more developed the creature is; that is, a metazoic structure will be more complicated. And where this complication has increased considerably, that physical structure is the human physical structure.” (1)

Note: Living cells act according to instinct because of their protozoic mind. There are many organs in the human body such as the kidneys and the liver. These organs have have a more developed mind, i.e. metazoic mind. So long as the kidneys and liver are in a greater structure like an animal or a human they will do their job. That is why doctors are able to perform kidney and liver transplants from one human body to another. So metazoic mind controls protozoic mind. And, in the human structure, both protozoic and metazoic mind comes under the domain of the unit human mind.

Which gold are sadhakas interested in

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Take the case of the precious metal gold. Whenever you say “gold” you refer to gold in general, the gold of the universe. To be of some practical use, the gold will have to be brought within the limitation of a certain form, such as a gold necklace, a gold bangle, or gold tiara. Women may get a certain pleasure by wearing these gold ornaments, but for the goldsmith has no practical use for them as ornaments. He is only concerned about one thing – gold. Likewise, due to the influence of the static principle, an infinite number of names and forms have emerged out of Parama Puruśa, the Singular Entity. Most people enjoy using these finite names and forms, but to practical spiritual aspirants they have no special importance. Sádhakas are only interested in the original substance and not its finite forms. Thus, their only object of ideation is Parama Puruśa. They only accept Parama Puruśa, the Singular Entity, as the goal of their lives, just as the goldsmith is only interested in the gold and not its different forms.”
“How can one shake off the influence of static inertness? How can one get freedom from the bondages of names and forms? Just as the goldsmith uses a hammer and process of melting (in fire) to extract the real gold from the various ornaments, similarly a practical spiritual aspirant will have to break the bondages of names and forms in this expressed world through the cultivation of knowledge (which is mutative), devotion (which is sentient). By virtue of the heat of the fire of sádhaná and the strength derived from sustained intuitional practice, a sádhaka can overcome the static inertness, the apparent cause behind the quinquelemental universe. Life and the world will become effulgent with the resultant unfoldment of latent consciousness.” (1)

Solely an internal quality + 5 more

Baba
Solely an internal quality

Namaskar,

In our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, the term 'bhakti' is well-known and commonly used in our daily talks and interactions. Sadhakas say things like, “That person has a lot of bhakti”, or “Bhakti is the greatest attribution”, or “I only follow the path of bhakti” etc. At the same time, a few others mistakenly think, “I am an acarya so I must have a lot of bhakti”, while others contemplate, “I hold a high post so I have a lot of bhakti.” Let’s take a moment to reflect on what is real bhakti, especially since it is only bhakti that can lead us to our cherished Goal.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Bhakti or attachment

Baba guides us that bhakti means having the mind directed only towards God, and not towards any other object or desire.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Bhakti means to withdraw one’s attractions from all objects and channelize them towards Parama Purus'a. When the unit self is associated with the cosmic it is called “bhakti” or “devotion”, but when it is associated with the mundane it is called “attachment”. You must withdraw your mental propensities from all external objects – no matter what they might be – and channelize them only towards Parama Purus'a. Only when you direct them towards Him, can it be called bhakti. If you allow your mind to become fascinated by any other object, it is called “a'sakti” or “attachment”." (1)

So no external qualification or mundane desire has even one iota to do with bhakti. If anyone thinks, “I am an acarya so therefore I am a bhakta”, or if one thinks, “I organise many service projects so I must be a great bhakta”, this is all nothing but self-befoolery. Because using external things to build a case for one's internal amount of bhakti is meaningless.

The operative phrase in the above quote is, "only towards Parama Purus'a." If the mind is goaded only towards Parama Purusa, then it is bhakti. That is the real meaning of bhakti. If one's mind is only involved in serving and pleasing Parama Purusa. That means in the external sphere, we should engage in worldly activities for pleasing Him, and not out of our own unit desire for worldly prestige etc.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Bhakti & a'sakti cannot co-exist

As Baba points out, if the mind is separately or simultaneously involved in any other longing then it is known as a'sakti or attachment, i.e. the path of degradation.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "When the attraction is for the non-integral entity, for money, for family, for land, it is called ka'ma; when it is for integral entity it is called prema and the mental tendency during ka'ma i.e., the mental tendency during attraction for a non-integral entity is called a'sakti in Sam'skrta and the mental tendency during attraction for that Integral Entity is called bhakti. (2)

The basic equation is: the degree to which we are attracted by or infatuated with money, name, fame, respect, position, is the degree to which we are off the path of bhakti. Bhakti, then, is a very pure and internal desire to attain Parama Purusa. And for this tremendous honesty and love are needed. We may be able to masquerade ourselves in front of others so they think we are great bhaktas; but we cannot fool Parama Purusa in this way. He sees our innermost desire and knows how far we have pure bhakti or not.

The main thing we should keep in mind is that bhakti (love for God) and a'sakti (mundane longing) are mutually exclusive; they cannot co-exist. The degree to which we harbour one is the degree to which we are remiss in the other.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The attachment for a finite thing is an expression of extroverted energy, whereas the attraction for the Infinite is an expression of the introverted energy. That is why these two can never co-exist." (3)

Bhakta: his son & love

Here Baba guides us that true bhaktas look upon one and all, even our intimate relations, as the expression of Parama Purusa. That means that Parama Purusa has come in various forms, including as our family members.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Do you love your son? No, no you don’t love your son. You love Brahma in the form of your son. By loving your son as a son, you cannot love the Lord. Where there is the feeling of son, there is no Lord and where there is the Lord, there is no son." (4)

Those who are true bhakas look upon each and every entity as the manifestation of the Supreme Entity.

All in all, there are three general grades of sadhakas. Those in the top most category love only Parama Purusa, and view all as Parama Purusa in various forms. Then one is truly established in bhakti. Second is when one loves Parama Purusa sometimes, and on other occasions harbours love towards mundane entities. In that case, bhakti is polluted. The lowest phase one prays for something mundane in their ritualistic worship of the Supreme. This crude approach is asakti and must be avoided entirely.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "If a man wants to become a devotee of the lord but in the mind of his mind, if he thinks that God will make him pass his examination – here the esana (longing) is not one but two...When something is demanded from God the esana becomes two. Hence the time is completely wasted...When the esana (longing) is not [only] for Paramatman but [also] for something else, it is known as asakti (attachment) and not bhakti." (5)

We should all keep the mind fully focused on Parama Purusa and not any second or third desire or goal.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Bhakti is the best path

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Being merged in the constant thought of God is devotion. Devotion is not related to the chanting of hymns or ritualistic worship with different paraphernalia. (6)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The meaning of the word bhakti is “attraction to the Supreme”. When the attraction is to something limited, it is called a'sakti, and when the attraction is to the Supreme, it is devotion, bhakti. There is no compromise, no meeting point, between a'sakti and bhakti, between attraction to the Supreme and attraction to the objects of the world. In a'sakti, the feeling is that I get the object. In bhakti, the feeling is that I merge myself in Him. Where there is no desire, there the Lord lives. The Lord and the desire for the world, like the sun and the night, cannot coexist." (7)

Conclusion

Bhakti is something purely internal and is not related with any external qualification like post or power. Bhakti is one’s heartfelt love for the Supreme Entity. And the degree to which that comprises one’s mental make-up is the degree to which they are a true bhakta. Conversely, those who harbour desires of worldly gains - whether that be money, name, or fame etc - are on the path of asakti. Bhakti and asaki cannot coexist. So every sadhaka should be keenly aware of what desire they are cultivating in the mind and ensure that their longing is goaded unto Parama Purusa, and not anything mundane.

Bhakti versus a'sakti

Ananda Marga ideology states, "In philosophical terms the attraction for finite objects is called a'sakti and the attraction for the infinite is Bhakti. Ra'ga or rakti means both the attraction for the infinite and attraction for the finite objects." (8)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "One may have attachment towards physical objects as well as towards Parama Purus'a. The attachment to physicality is called a'sakti or vis'aya'nurakti, while the deep attachment to Parama Purusa is called para'nurakti or bhakti." (9)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The meaning of the word “para'nurakti” should be considered. Rakti denotes raga or attachment. Anurakti means maintaining attachment with or being attracted by a particular entity after having understood its meaning. Anurakti is of two kinds. The anurakti for the Supreme Brahma or Infinite Cosmic Consciousness is para'nurakti. The Anurakti for Brahma under the sway of prakrti or the anurakti for the crude manifestations is termed apara'nurakti. God is an object for para'nurakti. When the aspirant considers the Supreme Brahma to be his own, it is termed bhajana' or bhakti." (10)

How do everything & become bhakta

One should not get caught up in the misconception or dogma that, “To become a true bhakta I should give up my sons, or renounce my parents, or become some type of hermit etc.” Rather, we have been given various responsibilities, and they are to be managed. As we know, performing worldly duties is not antithetical to the path of bhakti. It is only when we get infatuated by those worldly expressions that it infringes on our bhakti experience. So that is what we must be careful about.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Sadguru Baba guides us that we must view all as the manifestation of Parama Purusa. That is the way to live in this world without sacrificing our spiritual longing for Him.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The ascription of divinity to objects means the pursuit of the Infinite, leaving the finite behind. Are you feeding your son? No, no, you are feeding the son-like manifestation of Brahma. Are you tilling the field? No, no you are serving the finite manifestation of Brahma with your plough. Really speaking, the ascription of divinity to objects precludes their material enjoyment, as the objects then merge in the non-material Supreme Brahma." (11)

Seeing all as He means seeing all as an opportunity to do service, not satisfy worldly passions such as post, power, lust etc. Thinking of making more money, garnering huge respect, is asakti. Only by truly following brahmacarya, are we perfectly consonant with the path of bhakti.

Overflowing with exuberance

“Nandan van manthan kari, candan madhu ániáchi…” (Prabhat Samgiita #0320)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, after churning the forest garden of paradise, I have brought the nectar of sandalwood exclusively for You. I smeared and glazed it with the pollen of the parijat flower to enhance its fragrance and beauty. Baba, I am pouring and emptying the nectar of my heart for You. I love You so much.

O lord, At that time, the sweet fragrance of the jasmine flower was saturating the humid breeze into the far distant sky. The whole atmosphere was ensconced in that wonderful aroma. Baba, my mental lotus was completely vibrated and overflowing with exuberance, blossoming in its full glory. Sitting alone amidst that spiritually intoxicating ambience, I have threaded a garland for You.

In that moment, the groves of palm trees were swaying between the light and shade, and scores of bumble-bees assembled. To wholeheartedly welcome You, swarms and swarms of bees were congregating and buzzing on that sandalwood and cuá, with one-pointed interest in You. Sitting amidst that ambience, fully ensconced in Your thought, I composed some songs for You.

Baba, Your divine presence vibrates every being and touches the innermost core of my heart…

Why religions are poisonous

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "To stifle the progress of humanity, the followers of these religions play on human sentiments and other weaknesses. They want to perpetuate the hold of the vested interests by infusing an inferiority complex into the human mind. While preaching their religious ideas, some claim that the social, economic and political systems were direct creations of God and hence destined to be observed in all ages and all times with equal veneration. They pronounce that those who refuse to follow this divine decree will be doomed to burn in the scorching heat of God’s wrath, or dammed to suffer eternal hell-fire. To deny people the scope of verifying the rationality of different scriptures they declare that such-and-such scriptures are infallible and so nobody has the right to question their veracity. If the philosophical texts contradict the scriptures, then their propounders will be declared as atheists." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Through nityánitya viveka, human beings become aware of the fleeting nature of transient objects. They observe that with change in time, place and person, corresponding changes occur in social, political, economic, and all other spheres of life take to which they have to adapt themselves. Those who are reluctant to adapt themselves to the changed circumstances are doomed to destruction. A religion or an “ism” is created in a certain age which itself is a product of the three factors of time, place and person. However, the religion does not recognize the necessity of adjustment with the change in social life. It refuses to realize that the old rules and regulations of the previous age are now only mere historical records, having lost their relevance in the present dynamic society." (2)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "So it is seen that in the absence of nityánitya viveka the propounders of religion want to thwart the intellectual progress of human society at large. They knowingly refuse to understand that any observation regarding the spatial, temporal and personal factors, from whatever person it might come, is bound to lose its relevance in a transformed situation." They should never be misguided

“To love Parama Puruśa and the creation is the only Dharma of spiritual aspirants. They should never be misguided by any sentiment of caste, creed or language and they should never tolerate any sense of discrimination.” (Ananda Vanii #17)

Note 1: True Ananda Vaniis have a number whereas Fake Ananda Vaniis do not - just as a fake car license plate has no number. By this way, you can easily recognise a Fake Ananda Vanii.

History of human medicines: Liquid remedies

Ananda Marga Shabda Cayanika states, "Through their experience, people found that in certain diseases the patient's vitality diminishes. In these cases, the medicines are effective when they have some alcoholic properties; so they fermented them to prepare different kinds of remedies. These medicines, which are prepared through fermentation, are called medicinal ásava (“elixirs”– ásava means alcohol, for example, wine). In cases where the alcoholic properties of the medicines were necessary, but where the medicine would have a contrary effect if the negative effects of the alcohol were not removed, they altered their qualities rather than keep them in the form of ásava. They gave the name “medicinal ariśt́a” to such medicines; for example, drákśáriśt́a, dasamuláriśt́a."
"It was found in the case of certain medicinal herbs and plants that if they were boiled in water and their essences extracted, then their medicinal qualities were greater than in their raw state. This essence is called kváth; for example, catechu kváth, ashvagandhá kváth and various others. People began to use these kváthas as medicines. The kvátha that is produced by boiling different medicinal herbs and plants together is generally known as páṋcan in Bengali." (1)
