Bogus thing in Tattva Kaomudii: distortion + 2 more

Baba

Bogus thing in Tattva Kaomudii: distortion

Namaskar.

I was reading through an early discourse “Some Questions and Answers on Ánanda Márga Philosophy – Excerpt B ”, (1) and found an astonishing contradiction with a later discourse, Yogii Avashya hii Ástika Honge (A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist). (2)

The first discourse was given by Bábá in 1958, before the days when discourses were regularly recorded. It was printed on the basis of notes taken by sadhakas present during the discourse. The second discourse was given in Hindi in 1979, and it was recorded.

Contradiction between two discourses

There is a very significant contradiction between the two discourses regarding the definition of the words, “atheist” and “theist”. Here the main point is that what we have in recorded form from Bábá is firm evidence of what Bábá's real message is, and is considered as hard proof. If there are two discourses which contradict each other, and only one is available in recorded form, then the recorded one will be accepted and the other considered erroneous. The erroneous discourse should be corrected without delay and brought in line with what is stated on the recording of the other discourse

The existence of contradiction in the scripture of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji, is one critical matter. The fact is that there are no contradictions in Bábá's discourses. Bábá's teachings are consistent with one another and contain no loopholes.

The discourses of Bábá are further unique in that from 1955 through 1990 there is no evolution, no change in anything.

Teachings of Táraka Brahma do not evolve

Any human being no matter how brilliant, goes through a process of evolution in thought in their life. The writings of a great writer early in their career, are different from the writings of that same writer late in their career. There are phases and developments which can be traced out. And any undated writings can often even be dated according to the stage of thought expressed.

But in stark contrast to this, the thought process of Táraka Brahma goes through no evolution, no change. What Bábá gave in 1955 is consistent with and moreover identical to what He has given in 1990. By hearing a view expressed by Bábá in a particular paragraph, one will never be able to attach a date to it in accordance with the “Stage of thought” being expressed. Because in Bábá's discourses there are no stages and no developments: everything comes from one eternal, all-knowing Cosmic Mind.

Publishers are cause of contradiction

In view of this fact that the teachings of Táraka Brahma are perfect, never change, and contain no contradictions—in view of this, if any contradiction is found in Ánanda Márga scripture it can only be an error of the Publishers who put the discourse into written form. Any contradiction found is due not to the Propounder of the scripture, but to the medium by which that scripture was put in print.

The printed versions of the two above-mentioned discourses flagrantly contradict one another—and this contradiction has been present for over thirty years. Below are the definitions of atheist and theist as given by the two discourses.

The recorded discourse

Here is what Bábá stated in the discourse, Yogii Avashya hii Ástika Honge (A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist). It is from the “As Is” transcription of the original Hindi given by Bábá.

This is the definition of theist which Bábá states unequivocally, on recording:

जीवात्मा, परमात्मा, तथा वेद, इन तीनों को जो मानते हैं, वे ही हैं आस्तिक | आस्तिक की यही व्याख्या है |

Here is the direct translation of what Bábá says in Hindi:

Theists are only those who accept all three—jiivátmá, Paramátmá, and veda. This is the definition of a theist.

This definition Bábá repeats in different parts of the passage, and explains, expands upon and substantiates it fully throughout five paragraphs. Bábá is expressing here that a theist is one who accepts all three: (a) jiivátmá , (b) Paramátmá , and (c) veda. And if someone does not accept any single one among these three, then one is an atheist. Bábá explains in the passage that veda means “spiritual jiṋána, spiritual knowledge”.

Here again Bábá states this very same teaching in another of the five paragraphs:

आस्तिक उसी को कहेंगे जो जीवात्मा को भी मानते हैं, परमात्मा को भी मानते हैं, और आध्यात्मिक-ज्ञान अर्थात्‌ वेद को भी मानते हैं |

Here is the direct translation of what Bábá says in Hindi:

Theists will be recognized only as those who accept the existence of all three jiivátmá, Paramátmá, and spiritual jiṋána that is to say veda.

So Bábá's above teachings were given on recording, on June 30, 1979, in Patna.

The non-recorded discourse

In another discourse—one which was not recorded—it is printed that Bábá has given the following teaching:
Q. 35 – Who should be called an atheist (nástika)?
Ans.: – Those who do not believe in Consciousness (Atman), Supreme Consciousness (Paramátman) or Vedas are atheists. Those who believe in any one of them may be called theists. (Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell Part 3, Some Questions and Answers on Ananda Marga Philosophy)

So, here the Tiljala Publishers have printed that Bábá's teaching is that if someone believes in any of the three—jiivátmá, Paramátmá, or veda—then they are theists. This directly contradicts Bábá's 1979 recorded teaching that one will only be considered a theist if they believe in all three: jiivátmá, Paramátmá, and veda (spiritual knowledge).

Two contradictory definitions printed by publishers

This contradiction has been sitting in the printed books being sold all over the world for the past 40+ years. The wrong teaching from Tattva Kaomudii Part 1 has been in print for 60+ years, and the correct teaching—the one available on recording—has been in print for 40+ years. And this contradiction is not subtle or vague; it is a glaring contradiction that makes Bábá look like someone who says one thing at one time, and an opposite thing at another.

Now here is one vital point: In any philosophy, if there are contradictions within it that is deadly. A philosophy which is self-contradictory, cannot survive. So the presence of such a glaring contradiction is extremely serious and threatens the whole of Ánanda Márga scripture. Yet in over thirty years, the Tiljala Publishers never fixed it.

One must ask the question as to how it could be that the Tiljala Publishers never fixed such a glaring contradiction as this in 40+ years.

Hindi discourses treated as step-child

The 1979 discourse in which Bábá gave His teaching on theism and atheism on recording is in Hindi. But TP has a long history of treating Hindi discourses as the step-child.

Contradiction in scripture is deadly

The presence of such a contradiction in our Ánanda Márga scripture is of vital importance and must be repaired without delay. The very survival of Ánanda Márga ideology as guiding light for the suffering humanity, depends on this.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "It [scripture] must be áptavákya. A scripture is a guided entity." (3)

At His lotus feet,
Dr. Ramlagan Prasad

The link below contains the six paragraphs in Yogii Avashya hii Ástika Honge (A Yogii Must Certainly Be A Theist) where Bábá explains in great detail about what it means that a theist must believe in i.e. accept the existence of jiivátmá, Paramátmá, and veda, and why it is important. The “As Is” six paragraphs from the original Hindi are presented, followed by their translation into English.

About H Group

It is regrettable that H group has no interest in Bábá’s discourses, otherwise they would have become active in publishing them from the original sound file instead of merely reprinting the books which the Tiljala group publishes. The distortions introduced by Tiljala group in their publications of Bábá’s discourses are errors of commissional in nature. But let none make the mistake of thinking that H group is innocent here; by their failure to take interest in publishing Bábá’s original discourses, they demonstrate a lethargy toward Bábá’s shástra which is highly condemnable. H group’s failure to publish Bábá’s original discourses is a failure of omission. The omissional error of H group is every bit as serious as the commissional errors of Tiljala group. And moreover, H group's publishing department merely reprints the distortion-laden, error-filled books made by Tiljala group, and puts their stamp on it. So they are supporting and participating in the sins of Tiljala group.

Fix Bábá's discourses: now or never

If we remain passive onlookers and do not fix the negative trends of introducing distortion into Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's discourses—if we do not bring the printed discourses up to the proper standard now—it will become impossible to change this in the future. And even if in future some sincere Ánanda Márgiis will try, they will be treated as enemies. Because this is the way religion works: Today one cannot teach the devotees of Lord Krśńa that He has nothing to do with cows; they will never believe it. In the same way, Ánanda Márgiis will become used to the wrong teachings in our AM books and they will not like to give them up. They will think that whatever was there at the end of the twentieth century, that was the gold standard for all time. And it should be kept and maintained.

Ánanda Má́rga is dharma—not religion—but we will face the same opposition from within to change, when wrong teachings get established.

So we don't have any time: it is either now or never. The clock is ticking: If we do not get Bábá's discourses fixed now, it will be impossible to do so later. And that will cause bloodshed and more division on the basis of the various versions of Bábá's teachings and their explanations. History bears testimony to this, that all the religions have similarly broken into multiple factions, groups and subgroups on the basis of differences in scripture interpretations. Bábá wanted to eliminate such problems, and that is why Bábá's discourses are recorded. But unfortunately, those recordings are not being published properly. This matter is very serious.
Request for volunteers

We make a special request for volunteers to help in this work of producing and reviewing the “as is” discourses. Márgii volunteers are needed from all countries around the world, to help with translating the “as is” discourses into the various languages, and also to help with translating postings about distortions so that all Márgiis around the world can be made aware. Comparing the “as is” discourses to the discourses published by our AMPS is a big job, and help here is also needed. We welcome a hand from any and all who are inspired and interested to serve in the protection of the discourses of Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji.

Need for audio recordings

In order to produce “As Is” discourses, there is a need for audio cassettes of Bábá's discourses. These are treated with the utmost of care as we do the job for which the recordings were made: discourse transcription. So any who have recordings of Bábá's discourses are encouraged to contact us in order to get the recording transcribed in “As Is” fashion.

Our collective goal

As Ananda Margiis, we should not have any agenda against any group. For true Ananda Margiis, our goal is to repair and protect Lord Shrii Shrii Ánandamúrtiji's holy discourses so they will remain for the present and future humanity.

I desire Your closeness

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Tomáy ámi ceyechi, shata rúpe, mane mane, práńer devatá keno náhi ele..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3000)

Purport:

O’ My Parama Purusa, I want You in hundreds of ways, in a multitude of forms, in my mind. My most adorable One, why did You not come and instead remain afar? Is it because I did something wrong which has hurt Your feelings. Please come now, I want You so much in my mental abode, in my sadhana, dhyana, kiirtana etc.

O’ Supreme Being, keeping Yourself invisible, You are singing with delight, making the river of melody flow to satiate my being. The strings of Your viina, with its charming resonance, floats and takes me to the distant sky. My nearest One, I desire Your closeness.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, Your spiritual attraction is impossible to avoid and has affected my whole existence. The entire sweetness and love of my mind and heart races and runs unto You. What a blissfully, heavenly flow You have released which has inundated the universe in bhakti. It is Your grace.

O’ my Parama Purusa, You have filled my entire being with the aroma of that sweet nectar. With its pollen of tune and love affection, it draws me irresistibly close.

Baba, I want You in hundreds of ways, in hundreds of forms, in my mind...

How AM books were made....

Baba

How AM books were made in the 1950s

Namaskar,

Making book with the help of handwritten notes: Sadguru Baba founded AMPS in 1955 and began delivering DMC and GD discourses that year itself in Hindi. Those days AMPS did not have the financial means to purchase recording devices, which is why AMPS relied upon notetakers in those very early days. Certain designated margiis would sit in the front row and note down His DMC discourses. After Baba completed His discourse, those Bengali speaking and Hindi speaking note-takers would convene, review and collate their notes, and form one cohesive version to present to Baba. Unfortunately, they could not do the job properly, so Baba would then redictate the discourse in Bengali and add more points to make the topic accurate and comprehensive. A few of those early Subhasita Samgraha books were made by this method. However, this proved to be a very time-consuming process, and Baba had numerous projects going on and had no scope to spend hours and hours on this laborious approach to publishing the books.

Summary: In the very early days of AMPS, before we had access to recording devices, the discourses were noted down, rechecked and redictated by Baba, and finally printed.

One other thing to note, unfortunately in that era before reel-to-reel recordings, only Baba’s DMC discourses were documented. Those sadhakas thought only the DMC discourses were very important. As a result, all those dharmic talks and stories told during His fieldwalks were not documented, and many of His general darshans were not documented.

In Him,
Gopal Chattopadhyaya

Summary: Only DMC discourses were documented those days, not Baba’s darshans, fieldwalks, etc.

====

How AM books were made in the 1960s

Making book with the help of reel-to-reel recorder: Baba created the requisite pressure, and AMPS purchased a reel-to-reel recording machine. From that point onwards, Baba ended the system of note-checking and redictating His discourses, and instead gave the order for Publications to make a proper book by using those reel-to-reel recordings. They were supposed to be extremely meticulous in checking and confirming the text with the recorded discourse on those reel to reel tapes. Verily, the printed discourses for the Hindi, Bengali, and English editions were made by transcribing those reel-to-reel tapes. Baba did not have time to review those books. The only issue was that those in-charges failed to repeatedly review and check the audio recordings. The end result was that those AMPS books were filled with numerous errors. Indeed, when those in-charges printed the books they made all kinds of mistakes, and Baba did not have time to review their work. So if a discourse was recorded then no review was done - just it was the duty of the Publications Dept to transcribe and print it. Yet all along those in-charges were giving the false report to Baba that the books were done properly. Ultimately, those mistake-laden books were sold to margiis.

In Him,
Gopal Chattopadhyaya

Overview: Once reel-to-reel tapes came on the scene, Baba stopped the lengthy process of checking discourse notes, and it became the norm to print the discourses by transcribing them directly from the tapes.

===

Story: how AM books made after 1977

Post-jail period: Indeed, by 1978 audio cassettes had come into vogue so those in-charges no longer had to rely on the old reel-to-reel machines. Despite the convenience of the new cassettes, the recording work was still not being done consistently. Then, on 14 Oct 1978, Baba expressed His feigned anger and demanded to see the audio recordings of those 71 general darshan discourses from the prior several weeks. The Dadas presented 35 recorded audios, but had no answer for about 36 discourses which they had failed to record, and could only stand there in their own shame. Baba told that He would not give any further discourses until they collected the discourse notes from those attendees. (Some of those are from August 5 - 9, 28 - 30 1978 and September 21 - 26, 1978.) Baba’s wish was to make proper books using those audio tapes. Ultimately, this gave rise to the Ananda Vacanamrtam series, which is a collection of Baba’s general darshan discourses. By Baba’s pressure, the recording of Baba’s discourses became routine. Baba’s standing order was to make proper books using those audio tapes. Due to His extremely busy schedule, Baba did not have time to review those publications. Just it was the job of Publications to print them in book form by again and again checking the cassettes. Yet all along those in-charges were giving the false report to Baba that the books were done properly. Ultimately, those mistake-laden books were sold to margiis.

In Him,
Gopal Chattopadhyaya

Overview: The Ananda Vacanamrtam series began in 1978 but initially those in-charges were not sincere in recording those discourses. For this reason, Baba strongly pointed them out and made them promise to record. The aim was to have those discourses transcribed and printed, after meticulously comparing and checking with the audio cassettes. Yet those in-charges did not attend to this properly; hence, mistake-laden books were sold to margiis.

Defacement of AM philosophy book

Baba

Defacement of AM philosophy book

Namaskar,

In most of the religions, those followers pray to God and encourage others to also pray. For this reason, they think of themselves as great dharmikas. But according to Ánanda Márga philosophy, it is the exact opposite; prayer is very bad. And those who pray are going against dharma. Because prayer means, "Hey, Parama Puruśa, You forgot Your duty to give me what I need. That's why I am reminding you to give me those things."
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com

Prayer / toadyism is very bad

According to Ánanda Márga philosophy, prayer means accusing Parama Puruśa of neglect etc. Yet He is our Supreme Wellwisher. Whatever we need, He knows better than we know. And He graciously provides the needful. We don't even know what our real needs are since we don't know what is going to happen after even one second. Whether we need some burial place or a fancy car, we don't know which of the two is appropriate for the coming moment.

The key point is that in Ánanda Márga philosophy, prayer is looked upon as a very bad thing. Now see, in Ánanda Sútram Bábá condemns prayer:

"3-11. Prárthanárcaná mátraeva bhramamúlam." (1)

"Purport: It is useless to pray to God for something, for He is sure to give what is necessary. Solicitation or importunity in the name of worship is nothing but toadyism and flattery." (1)

See flaw in yellow

Now just see the below-- our Tiljala Publishers (TP) have done just the opposite of what Bábá is guiding in Ánanda Sútram. Please read the yellow colored section below.

Tiljala Publishers have printed in an AM book, "This is what we should pray for, and this is the reason that we should build Ánandanagar and help it radiate light to the universal humanity." (2)

(For the full version of this above Bábá’s quotation, please scroll down to just above the reference section.)
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com

Conclusion

When Bábá has guided us that, "It is useless to pray to God for something", and that prayer is a bogus accusation that Parama Puruśa failed to provide what was required, then it is wrong to print that we should pray in our AM books.

Namaskar,
In Him
Sanjay Das

Praying means pointing out God's partiality

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Prayer is the act of asking for a favour with earnestness. It also means a solemn petition addressed to the Supreme Being for certain benefits. One prays to God for something which one does not possess or thinks one does not possess. One asks God for these favours with the faith that He alone can bestow everything and by His mere wish all wants can be satisfied. By prayer or by begging one wants to awaken His wish so that one may be granted the things one lacks. Does not one’s attempt to rouse the wish of God to fulfil these needs, upon careful and rational thinking, appear to be a reminder to God to give one something of which God has kept one deprived? It would otherwise not be necessary to remind Him in prayer of that thing or to try to arouse His wish to give. For instance, if one is in need of money, one would, with the faith that God alone can give, pray to Him for the favour of giving one money.”

“Does not this request show God’s fault in keeping one in want of money, when He alone can give it? God alone is blamed for it, and by praying to Him for money one is precisely pointing out to Him His partiality in not giving one the money one needed.”

“Therefore, prayer or asking for favours from God is only pointing out to the Sole Giver His mistakes in the distribution of His favours. It only presumes lack of impartiality in Him, and that is why He is blamed for making some very rich and others very poor. Praying to God for favours is only to bring to His notice the charge of partiality levelled against Him. When prayer leads to such a conclusion, it is only ignorance to ask for favours.” (3)

Full version: see the flaw in yellow

Our Tiljala Publishers (TP) have done just the opposite of what Bábá is guiding in Ánanda Sútram. Please read the yellow colored section below.

Tiljala Publishers have printed in an AM book, "Let Ánandanagar provide guidance to the entire universe in spiritual practice, service, sacrifice, renunciation, and culture. This is what we should pray for, and this is the reason that we should build Ánandanagar and help it radiate light to the universal humanity." (4)
