Racial killings in US: PROUT

Baba

Racial killings in US: PROUT

Namaskar,

Here is a case study of a crime motivated by hatred arising from racial bias and how the laws protect the perpetrator of the crime instead of imposing circumstantial pressure to prevent hatred or biases from manifesting itself in deadly ways.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga’s sublime spiritual philosophy given by Sadguru Baba accords divinity to each and every being in this universe. Nobody should be hated, much less be a victim of crimes fueled by hatred. Yet, due to a lack of proper psycho-spiritual education, it is common to see hatred in our societies. Humans hate their fellow humans on the basis of race, gender, nationality, social status, political ideologies, language and many such biases. Hatred in itself, even when not acted upon, is a debasing tendency. However, when hatred manifests itself as a crime committed by one human against a fellow human, then it is an indication of the depravity of society and poses a grave danger to human life, ultimately endangering societal progress. It has to be accepted that the vritti or propensity of hatred is present in humans. While the long-term, permanent solution is to build a society where humans have evolved spiritually and have developed refined sensibilities to overcome hatred, in the short-term, there is a dire need for stringent laws to prevent crimes motivated by hatred. An absence of such laws is a matter of concern. In fact, some of these laws protect the criminal rather than impede the crime.

Killer not charged: White killed Black

Here is a case study of a crime motivated by hatred arising from racial bias and how the laws protect the perpetrator of the crime instead of imposing circumstantial pressure to prevent hatred or biases from manifesting itself in deadly ways. A trivial parking space dispute at a convenience store in Florida turned into an incident of gun violence where the victim, Markeis McGlockton who was black, was shot by a white individual Michael Drejka, even after McGlockton backed off from the dispute indicating he was no longer a threat to Drejka. This lead to the death of McGlockton. Yet, Drejka will not be charged with murder owing to the state's Stand Your Ground law. (See Ref A and Ref B)
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Analysis of the situation

Racism: One race perceives the other the other as a threat. In this case, a black individual was shot and killed despite not posing any threat to a white individual after an initial altercation. The black man was perceived to be a threat. He was not a real threat to the white individual. But, strongly held racial biases and hatred of whites towards blacks skewed the perspective of this white person who eventually shot and killed his victim.

Laws: Laws should be in place to deter the base propensities of an individual from manifesting themselves in harmful ways. Laws should be designed with a view to detering the crime from taking place, provide justice to the victim should the crime take place and to reform the criminal. Instead, Stand Your Ground law only serves to embolden a person in possession of a gun to indiscriminately use it with impunity and absolutely no fear of punishment.

Why black, white, and yellow skin of humans

Prout Philosophy states, "A study of geography tells us why there are differences in the degree of heat of the sun’s rays. Where the sun’s rays fall on earth obliquely, there is less heat of the sun, and where the sun’s rays fall straight on the earth, the heat is greater. In very hot countries white-skinned people find it very hard to live, because their skin, having less of the chemical substance called melanin, is unable to stand much heat. Body skin with a great quantity of melanin in it turns jet black, and obviously, a lesser quantity of melanin makes one’s skin white." (1)

Racism: Dangerous sentiment

Prout Philosophy states, "In the past, many races and sub-races have been suppressed and exploited by powerful or dominant races. Racism has been propagated by those with evil designs in order to divide society and establish their own pre-eminence. Society must guard against such narrow and dangerous sentiments. This can be done only if every ethnic group has adequate scope for its expression and development. The multi-colored garland of humanity will be enriched to the extent diverse human groups blend together from a position of strength and independence out of a genuine love for each other, and are not forced together through fear or compulsion." (2)

Demons spread hatred among humans

Ages and ages of discrimination of blacks in the form of slavery and segregation in the USA, has led to the marginalization of the entire black community to such a great extent that the blacks struggle even to this day to fully integrate into the society and be accepted as trustworthy members of the society.
As highlighted by the case study, a black man was perceived to be a threat even when there were clear indications of him ceasing to be a threat to anybody around him. Yet, he was shot at and killed due to hatred, lack of trust, contempt held by the shooter for his victim’s precious life, all of which stems from deeply held biases against this black person or the racial group he belongs to. The perpetrator of the crime, a white individual, did not think even for a second before firing the shot at the black individual. Use of arms, in this case, was not an act of self-defense but a mere act of total disregard for a black person’s life which the shooter obviously deemed inferior to his own.

Baba points to the root cause of the problem in His above teaching. Narrow fissiparous tendencies of a few in the past has created a deep chasm in our society between the blacks and the whites, the rich and the poor, the privileged and the marginalized leading to hatred among humans. Breaking this bias by accepting all humans as an expression of the Supreme, each one a divine being whose life matters is the solution to the problem of racism and hatred that ensues.

Example of racial hatred in US

Prout philosophy states, “What we want is the rule of rationality. Human society is one and indivisible. Apparently there is heterogeneity but in essence there is homogeneity. For instance, in the Middle East there are Muslims, Jews, Christians, Semites and Blacks. But they all belong to the same supreme race – they are all the progeny of the Supreme Progenitor. This is what the spiritual philosophy of Ananda Marga says. Only due to dogmas, people think in terms of heterogeneity. There is only one ideology in the world which is not only all-embracing but also all-pervading.” (3)

It is clear from the case study that, Michael Drejka is not a policeman and had no business taking it upon himself to initiate this inquiry and demand that they move their car. If he was concerned that the family had parked in a handicapped parking spot, he should have called the police. He himself did not need the parking spot at that moment, and neither did anyone else. Furthermore, Markeis McGlockton had no gun and Michael Drejka's life was not in immediate danger. On this basis, it is clear that Michael Drejka had no basis for shooting McGlockton. Those who have conceal and carry permits in states with stand your ground laws even are trained in classes they have to take that you are to retaliate in kind. That is, if punched, you can punch back to defend yourself. One has no right to escalate the level of force in the absence of that level of threat. On the basis of this logic, we can conclude that the Sheriff is plainly not acting with the force of logic and is himself a racist. If the shooter had been black and the person who got shot had been white, then the shooter would have been arrested and charges filed.

No race is superior, no race is inferior

To eliminate the problem of racial prejudices affecting one's judgment the idea that all humans are a manifestation of the Supreme needs to be internalized. Humans are beings created by the Supreme mind; all humans are the progeny of Parama Purus'a. Nobody is superior, nobody is inferior. The distinctions one sees in the color of the skin and facial features are only superficial in nature. There are no deep differences between the so-called races that accord a superior status to one race and an inferior status to another. The color of the skin, facial features and physical characteristics of these so-called various races are only a result of environmental factors and geophysical conditions these groups of people lived in. The superficial differences among humans are only an evolutionary adaptation of humans for survival in these diverse climatic and geophysical conditions. Moreover, these differences which are merely environmental in origin have added diversity and variety to the human race enhancing the collective beauty of humanity. There is no rationale for considering that color of one's skin or physical attributes a basis for distinction. It is true that these factors contribute to variety, but at the core, all humans are "homo-sapiens", progenies of the Supreme with equal potentialities to flourish spiritually. This is the right outlook towards the diversity we see in our human society. There is beauty in diversity just like the beauty of a bouquet of varied flowers.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Origin of various races

Prout philosophy states, "The greater the heat of the sun, the greater the amount of ultraviolet rays in the sunlight. A study of geography tells us why there are differences in the degree of heat of the sun’s rays. Body skin with a great quantity of melanin in it turns jet black, and obviously, a lesser quantity of melanin makes one’s skin white." (4)

All humans are one

Prout philosophy states, “There is no reason whatever to recognize one race as superior to another race. The external differences in constitution among these human groups cannot alter their basic human traits – love and affection, pleasure and pain, hunger and thirst. These basic biological instincts and mental propensities equally predominate in human beings of all complexions in all countries and in all ages. A mere rustic, unlettered, half-naked tribal mother of an unknown hamlet of Chotanagpur Hills (in Bihar in India) bears deep maternal affection for her young children; in the same way, a well-educated mother of a locality of New York pours out of her heart a great love for her own children. The subterranean flow of love and affection exists in all hearts alike... fundamentally their mental existence flows along the same channels of ideas and consciousness. Containing the same cosmic momentum and under the same cosmic inspiration, they all have set out for a tryst with the same destiny.” (5)

No right to hate anyone

Ananda Marga Ideology states, “Everything in this universe is the expression of the Divine, so you have no right to hate anybody. Even the Nucleus of this vast universe [Parama Purus´a] has no right to hate anybody. He cannot do two things: He cannot hate anybody, and He cannot create another Parama Purus´a! There is spiritual potentiality in all people. Some people have harnessed it, and these people are able to help other people to arouse it. Some people will arouse it if they are in the company of those who have already awakened it; this is the importance of satsaunga [good company]. Your duty is to awaken yourself and help others to awaken. I find that divine effulgence in the face of everyone here. No one is inferior, no one is degraded! You are committing a sin if you think you are a sinner or degraded! You cannot hate anyone. Do you have the right to hate anyone, to hate yourself? No.” (6)
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Gun Laws

Prout Philosophy states, "If we try to expand the scope of the few fundamental cardinal human principles and draft the constitution, legal code, administrative and judicial systems in adjustment with the expanded scope of those cardinal principles, that will pave the way for the greater unity of human society. Humanity or Neohumanism will thereby acquire accelerated speed, which is one of the essential factors for the path of proper movement. If the fundamental unity of human society increases more and more, and divisive differences steadily decrease, then universal humanity is bound to be united under a common ideology. This should not remain a utopian dream. It should be the first expression of the practical wisdom of humanity" (7)

In any civil society, the laws should be based on cardinal human principles based on Yama and Niyama. In the absence of such well-defined laws, there is bound to be chaos and misinterpretation of the law, as was seen in the case study, where on the basis of Stand Your Ground law, the police officer refused to arrest the shooter. The actions of the shooter was in opposition to cardinal human values though not in opposition to the law. Legally his action was not a crime. But, when evaluated in the light of cardinal human values we see that he committed a crime indeed. So, laws should be based on cardinal values.

There is also a debate regarding the circumstances under which Stand Your Ground law can be invoked to provide immunity to someone who uses force for self-defense. Some state laws do not permit the use of this controversial self-defense law to evade arrest or trial, if the person hiding behind this law is the one who initially provoked the use of force against his own self. In short, the one who initiated the conflict, cannot himself hide behind this law under the pretext of self-defense, when any force is used against him. In the case study, a heated argument which led to the unfortunate death of a black man was the result of a verbal conflict initiated by the white man, who ultimately shot and killed the black man. But he was not arrested by the police officer under the Stand Your Ground law.

Adding further ambiguity to this whole situation, legal experts claim that the part of this law which talks about initial provocation of force cannot be applied to verbal provocations. In this case the white man, who took the law into his own hands by questioning a black individual’s right to park in a parking spot, is believed to have only provoked a verbal conflict. Hence he seems to have full rights to use this controversial “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law to his advantage. (See Ref C)

Solution: Laws based on “human cardinal principles”

When this situation is thoroughly analyzed, we see that it gets complicated because the laws are not formed on a firm foundation of “human cardinal principles” of Yama and Niyama. However, when laws are based on cardinal human principles, any action that goes against these principles will be considered a crime and justice will be delivered appropriately with the view to reform the perpetrator of the crime.

Prout Philosophy states, “Regarding the term “human cardinal principles”, to act according to the dictates of Yama and Niyama is to act according to cardinal human principles and to go against them is to act against cardinal human principles. To violate Yama and Niyama is both a sin and a crime. Proutists should have nothing to do with local faiths or customs while framing the legal structure of human society.” (8)

Gun Laws in this country are so defective that possession of guns and use of guns, both have not been regulated appropriately. They are not framed in accordance with the cardinal human principles of Yama and Niyama. The Stand Your Ground law says someone can stand his ground, and use up to lethal force even if he can safely retreat while under imminent threat. This authorizes a person to use force indiscriminately and completely absolves him from the crimes he may commit in this process. This law is in direct violation of the principle of Ahimsa which professes one should not inflict harm on any being through thoughts, words or actions. Ahimsa does not profess non-application of force. But thoughtless, indiscriminate use of force, as professed by the Stand Your Ground law is not in line with the principle of Ahimsa. Hence, the solution lies is in reforming the laws of the nation to be in accordance with the principles of Yama and Niyama. The onus of reformation lies on the shoulders of lawmakers who themselves need to be established in Yama and Niyama to be able to properly guide the society.

"It seems like an obviously unnecessary escalation: An argument about a convenience store parking space turned into deadly violence. Michael Drejka, after being shoved to the ground, shot and killed Markeis McGlockton, who had pushed Drejka but started to back off. But Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said the authorities will not charge Drejka for the shooting, citing the state’s “stand your ground” law." ~ Courtesy of Vox

Reference B:
"A stand-your-ground law (sometimes called "line in the sand" or "no duty to retreat" law) is a justification in a criminal case, whereby defendants can "stand their ground" and use force without retreating, in order to protect and defend themselves or others against threats or perceived threats."
~ Courtesy of Wikipedia

Reference C:
“A popular question has emerged in the weeks since Markeis McGlockton was shot and killed in a convenience store parking lot. Didn’t the shooter, Michael Drejka, trigger the whole situation when he took the law into his own hands, confronting McGlockton’s girlfriend about why she had parked in a handicap-reserved spot? "You cannot provoke a fight and then hide behind ‘stand your ground,’" said Michele Rayner, a Clearwater attorney representing McGlockton’s family, referring to the controversial self-defense law that has protected Drejka from arrest… But whether that part of the law comes into play in this case is iffy. According to legal experts, it generally doesn’t apply when the confrontation is just verbal, barring any threats of violence.” ~ Courtesy of Tampa Bay Times

Power of sadhana + 5 more

Baba

Power of sadhana

Namaskar,

One day Bábá asked me to sing a song. I sang one of Tagore’s songs - কোন আলোতে প্রাণের প্রদীপ জ্বালিয়ে তুমি ধরায়ে আসো. Then Bábá asked us if there was anybody who cannot concentrate in meditation. I said, “Baba, I cannot concentrate in pujá.” Bábá said, “No, no. You just sang a song so let it be someone else’s turn.”

Then Baba said to me, “Ok, you come here.” He asked me to sit in His lap and recite my Ista mantra. Then Bábá asked one avadhuta to come and sit in front of me and Baba told that avadhuta to say something in a very loud voice. The avadhuta began shouting “Bábá’, ‘Bábá.”
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Then Bábá put His hand on my neck and asked me to say “Stop” to the avadhuta who was shouting. When I did that, immediately the avadhuta stopped talking out loud, though the avadhuta was trying his best to continue shouting. Bábá then explained to us, “With proper sádhaná you will the blessing of Parama Puruśa and then whatever you command will happen.”

Comment: In this above story Baba is guiding those how some are skeptical about sadhana and feel that closing the eyes is a waste of time. Such persons do not believe that meditation has any value - rather they feel it is better to work with the hand - not the mind. This demo was given in front of both bhaktas and skeptics, and afterwards everyone understood. When a margii did sadhana he gained the power to choke another’s voice. Those present saw that doing sadhana generated power. Although in same demonstration session Sadguru Baba also warned us that occult powers are like the dust by the side of the road. They have no value. As one progresses on the spiritual path, occult powers may come, but one should not long for occult powers - rather one should long only for Parama Purusa. It is a very simple equation. Why not get the Entity who controls all those occult powers. Then He will always provide you with what is needed.

So practicing sadhana is not a waste of time. When one is mentally reciting their Ista mantra the mind becomes strong and whatever you desire will be fulfilled. After this demonstration, those skeptical about sadhana became very sincere as they took Baba’s teaching very seriously.

Warning about plagiary

It is the accepted international standard and Baba's system not to copy another's work and publish it in your own way. Baba has given a very strict rule on plagiarism. Why is Baba against this type of plagiarism or stealing someone's work? There are many reasons:

1) It is against the code of asteya (non-stealing).

2) The individual who steals gets degenerated and it sets a bad example in the social sphere.

3) It impedes social progress as others will not be inclined to pursue new and original work as they think that others will just steal it.

4) It breeds a society of lethargic people who will always wait for others to create something new. It is just like those who are lazy in the kitchen do not cook - just they wait for others to prepare food and then they steal it away.

5) Countless stories of devotees need to be published. But some do not want to do the hard work of compiling and writing these stories, so they just steal them from others. But new stories need to be told, otherwise so many unpublished stories of sadhakas will be lost and forgotten forever. So watch out for story thieves.

Behind the dark veil

Ananda Marga philosophy: "Question – Why is everything in the communist countries done under the dark veil of the iron curtain?"

"Answer – Because they are conscious of the inherent defects and loopholes in their system and they do not want the world to know what they are doing." (1)

Note: A similar thing is going on in Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha these days. To hide their hypocrisy group leaders do like this.

Why true sadhakas are rare

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Suppose there is a virtuous discussion going on somewhere. If you invite two hundred people to this discussion, you will find that only sixty invitees have turned up, at the most. Out of these participants about ten or twelve people at most listen with patience and devotion to the talks; and out of these listeners, only some properly understand the subject discussed. Then again, out of this small group that has understood, only a very few may retain in their minds what they have understood. Lastly, only one or two persons of this last group may practice in their daily lives what they have learnt and understood. This is only due to the clash between vidyá and avidyá in the mind, and in this clash the triumph of avidyá or the extroversive force means running from the introversive bent of vidyá. It is because of the saḿskaras of animality that the introversive momentum is rare in the average human mind. The sensuous desires of avidyá continue to infiltrate into every thought process. Such a situation continues for a long time in a sádhakas life.” (1)

Re: Harming vs. helping the child

Namaskar
An important submission. Well written well done.
I too did not make the effort inspire my boy. He is a great 44 year old man and my best friend  now but no sadhana .
I made a BIG mistake.
The sister makes a spot-on valid point below. If our children aren't practicing their sadhana in their early middle and late youth..they will not somehow magically begin when they are adults.
Those of you who are being lax...take heed please.
For your children's spiritual progress is at stake. This is the most important duty and responsibility of a Mother and a Father.
Keep in mind what BABA said..first sadhana becomes a habit and then that habit becomes your nature. By example..your nature can become your children's and generations to come natures.

Clown Dhruva: lazy sadhana

Baba

Clown Dhruva: lazy sadhana

Namaskar,

Acarya Diary guides us that if one’s spine is bent then the kundalini will not be able to rise up. And that is what needs to happen in sadhana. The kundalinii resides in the muladhara cakra at the base of the spine. And when doing mantra japa, then the kundalini awakens. And if mantra japa continues then kundalini rises towards the sahasrara cakra.

But if one's spine is bent or curved, as shown in the below photo, then the pathway of the kundalinii is blocked and sadhana becomes useless. Sadly, the below person (so-called family acarya Dhruva (i.e. Clark Forden) of NY sector) is setting a poor example by hardly even trying to sit properly in sadhana. His spine is quite bent.

~ Below is Lazy Clark Forden in Sadhana ~

~ Above is Lazy Clark Forden in Sadhana ~

Baba’s directive is to sit with an erect spine preferably in padmasana. Those who want their sadhana to be fruitful should sit properly. Not only that, if someone near you is not sitting properly then their existential vibration will hurt you as well. Sincere sadhakas should watch in dharmacakra and if someone is obviously sleeping or sitting with a bent spine, then that person should be awakened and they should sit erect. Because posture is the most fundamental aspect of doing sadhana properly, as per Caryacarya. The central idea is that first and foremost one should sit in the proper posture for sadhana and then try to do the various steps.

#1: In the Senior Acarya Diary chapter on Iishvara pranidhana, section - “shuddhis”, Baba is describing that when sitting in meditation (padmasana, siddhasana, viirasana) one must keep the back straight so that the kundalini can the passage to rise upward from muladhara to sahasrara.
#2: Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "They should be taught to sit in padmásana [lotus posture], but instead of interlocking the fingers, they may rest one palm upon the other; and keep the spine erect.." (Caryacarya-1, The Process of Initiation)
#3: Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Tailless apes can be taught sádhaná after some effort. The tailed bipeds will not be able to do sádhaná like the tailless bipeds because the backbone of the tailed bipeds, containing the controlling points of the five fundamental factors, does not come in one line. The controlling points fall on a curved line, hence they cannot perform sádhaná properly.” (Yoga Psychology, The Human Body Is a Biological Machine)
#4: Ananda Marga philosophy states,” Mono-sided, straight or erect beings can perform sádhaná very well because all the five controlling points of the fundamental factors fall on a straight line....You see how fortunate you are to have a human biological structure. You have got a human frame. Humans should be obliged to Supreme Consciousness for this favour.” (Yoga Psychology, The Human Body Is a Biological Machine)
#5: Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The one who has followed the straight path of the sus'umna' canal upwards becomes one with Parama Purus'a." (Namami Krsnasundaram, Párthasárathi Krśńa and Vishiśt́ádvaetaváda (Discourse 16))
#6: Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Ujure uju cháŕi ná leo re báḿka. The word “uju” in Saḿskrta is derived from the Saḿskrta word “rju”. “Rju” means straight. The meaning of this line is “don’t accept the crooked path rejecting the straight one”. That is, just proceed along the path of “suśumná” not along the path of “id́á” and “piuṋgalá”.” (Ananda Marga Karma Yoga in a Nutshell, “Kurvanneveha Karmmáńi”)

Mahaprayan of great margii

Baba

Mahaprayan of great margii

Namaskar,

It is with much sadness to share the news of the mahaprayan of Shrii Mukteshvar Buksrai ji. His mahaprayan occurred some hours ago at 4pm IST on 31 July 2018. Mukteshvar ji was a devoted and dedicated Ananda Margii from Palamu, Jharkhand, India. Mukteshvar ji was initiated into Ananda Marga sadhana in 1962 and was 84 years of age at the time of his mahaprayan.

Mukteshvar ji was a very generous, community-minded, and sincere bhakta. He was always involved in sadhana, service, and sacrifice, ever-ready and active in helping those in need and preaching the gospel of neo-humanism and the ideas of tantra yoga.

With his mahaprayan, the entire Ananda Marga society of the world, and certainly all local margiis of Palamu, and especially his laokik family members will deeply miss Shrii Mukteshvar ji. May we all take solace in the fact that our dear Muktesvhvar ji was a bhakta of Sadguru Baba. Certainly he will attain mukti or moksa, accordingly. Baba will lovingly bestow His infinite grace.

in Him,
Diindayal

Note: Alert for those cremating a dead body in India or Indian managed cremation homes around the world. Their custom is to put the burning fire /hot coals in the mouth of the deceased to initiate the burning of the body. This is prohibed in AMPS as it is uncivilised. So watch out do not allow this. If you are not careful they will end of doing it. Make them aware ahead of tim.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The practice of putting fire into the mouth of the dead body is repulsive, it should not be encouraged." (Caryacarya - 1, Disposal of the Dead Body)

~ In-depth study ~

We have seen that when somebody dies then in offering their condolences people say now Mr So-and-so is sitting on Baba's lap. On other occasions when telling a Baba story people also say, "Such and such person sat on Baba's lap." But these days the trend is that "sitting on Baba's lap" is used more in connection with death. And that causes some confusion in reader's mind. To unknot the situation please read below.

Dogma: if "on Baba's lap" only used for death

Here are quoted lines from recently posted emails on various forums, wherein the writer uses the phrase - "in Baba's lap" - with the occasion of death:
- "May Parama Purusa Baba accept her in HIS divine lap"

- "May his soul rest in the lap of our beloved BABA"

- "Now she is taking rest in Baba's Lap."

- "May Baba accept him in HIS divine lap....."

- "May he rest in HIS loving lap of eternity."

- "We are sure that Baba has taken him in His loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in Baba's lap forever."

- "Let her rest peacefully in Baba's Lap - which she always desired."

- "now he is in beloved Baba's lap"

- "May his soul get peaceful place in His lap"

- "He is now in Bábá's loving lap"

- "May Baba bless him with a seat in His lap."

- "May BABA accept him in HIS divine lap!"

- "May Baba take him in his eternal loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in peace taking shelter in Baba's lap."

- "Please keep him on Your lap forever."

- "We all collectively pray to Baba to take him on Baba's divine lap forever.”
All of the above lines are commonly written in eulogizing the deceased. These days mostly it is used in a eulogy and rarely used to recount one's intimate spiritual experiences - unfortunately. By this way, the phrase "in Baba's lap" is being misused and step by step the real meaning is being forgotten as now people more commonly use the phrase to eulogize those who have died, and much less so to express their inner feelings of bhakti. Unfortunately, the meaning and inner spirit of the phrase is getting lost.

Baba story: "sitting on Baba's lap"

Some time ago after dharmacakra, a senior margii was recounting his experiences of having dharma samiiksa with Baba. He said, "After being lovingly scolded by Baba for my wrongdoings, then He called me close and placed me on His lap - I remained there for some time soaking up His love - and He blessed me."

We all enjoyed hearing about his personal account with Baba during dharma samiiksa. When he finished telling his factual and historical event, there was a call for questions. Various people posed their queries. Towards the end, one new margii raised his hand and asked, "How did Baba bring you back to life?"

Everyone stared at the new margii in amazement. There was a look of astonishment all around - people were really shocked to hear him say this. The new sadhaka sensed that something was wrong He said very matter-of-factly, "I thought that sitting on Baba's Lap means that he (the margii) died - that is why I asked that question."

This was quite eye-opening for those of us in the room: Through our language and expression we had unknowingly taught someone to think that being on Baba's lap is the equivalent of death. Because it seems that nowadays people only use the phrase "Baba's lap" when a person has died, such as "Let him rest peacefully in Baba's lap", as if in order to sit on Baba’s lap one has to die. But that is false. Sincere sadhakas regularly sit on Baba’s lap in their meditation. It is His grace. It is just like a child need not die in order to sit on his father’s lap.

The idea is that this phrase - Baba's lap - has been linked with death due to extreme overuse. So for some time if sadhakas use this phrase exclusively for spiritual purposes, that will be best. The phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", should not meet a similar fate. It should not lose its pure spiritual quality and just refer to one's death. That will be very negative.

Baba would bless bhaktas and place them on His lap

There are tens of thousands of recorded stories by sadhakas where they use the phrase, "on Baba's lap", when describing their experiences of being with Baba: He used to bless them and bring them on His lap. People should understand the deeply mystical value of this expression, and not just think that Baba's lap means death, i.e. that you can only sit on His lap at the time of death. Still today there are thousands of margiis walking this earth who sat in Baba's lap. And not only that, there are countless more sadhakas who were blessed by Baba in dreams and sadhana wherein they sat in His lap. And still today this deeply intimate experience is attainable by sadhakas, by His grace.

There are so many ways an aspirant can reach unto Baba's lap including in sadhana. That is the main idea that should be preserved. Sadhana is a spiritual practice and one can sit on Baba's lap in sadhana. We should make it cent-per-cent clear to one and all that the phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", does not mean death.

"Mahaprayan" means death of mortals - confirm for yourself
from the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary

Mahaprayan (Death): Many are aware that mahaprayan (death) is the common term used in India and especially in our Bengal to describe the death of any human being, even ordinary people. In that way, the obituary columns of the newspapers of Bengal regularly cite the mahaprayan (death) of various persons of society who died or passed away.

Some may get confused and wrongly think that the word 'mahaprayan' (death) is one extraordinarily term of bhakti to be used in association with Parama Purusa. But that is not at all the case. Rather to do so is only to undermine the eternal presence of Parama Purusa. That is why no bhaktas ever use the word 'mahaprayan' in reference to Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna. Because Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna exist eternally. Then there is no question of Their mahaprayan (death).

Baba is Parama Purusa so He is eternal and there is no question of His mahaprayan.

Here it should be known that the convention of an annual death day ceremony (i.e. shraddhainjali or mahaprayan) is a foundation of the Islamic tradition. Muslims are well known for this, and their approach of an annual death day ceremony was adopted by the leader of a particular group in AMPS. So no one should think that mahaprayan is some type of sacred event. It is done on the death day anniversary of Muslims.

And for those who need still more technical proof then all this can be clarified quite readily by referencing the dictionary. Specifically in the Samsad Bengali-English             dictionary 3rd edition on page 848. Checking there it will be confirmed that the word 'mahaprayan' means death. Which is why it is used to refer to the passing away of even common citizens. And that is the case in this letter also. The term mahaprayan means death and this is the ideal term for this purpose.

Mahaprayan is only for humans not for Sadguru

Here it should be qualified that there is both real mahaprayan and fake mahaprayan. Real mahaprayan marks the death of any ordinary human being, just like the aforesaid news. This is the proper use of the term: To note a person's departure from this earth. That is the meaning of the mahaprayan term and that is the standard way the term is used in Indian languages.

Then there is the fake, or so-called, or dogmatic mahaprayan. That is when certain vested interests try to apply the mahaprayan term to Parama Purusa. This is grossly inappropriate because when Parama Purusa Sadguru Baba is that Divine Entity who is beginningless and endless and resides always in our heart, then it is entirely wrong to proclaim that He is gone.

That is why rational margiis are protesting; because the Oct 21st program is so-called mahaprayan. So-called means that something is fake. Parama Purusa is eternal, thus for some vested interests to declare "mahaprayan of Parama Purusa" is nothing but so-called mahaprayan.

Mahaprayan only really happens in the case of human beings, not Parama Purusa. Those doing mahaprayan for Sadguru are hypocrites. On the one side in meditation they ask His grace thinking that He is ever-present, and on the other side they think that Baba has passed way. That is their hypocrisy.
