How bhakti is permanent + 3 more

Baba
How bhakti is permanent

Namaskar,

In Ananda Marga, spirituality is the highest attainment, and that the golden nugget of spirituality is bhakti-- love for Parama Purusa.

Baba says, "Spirituality is the summum bonum of life in all its aspects." (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The devotional sentiment is the highest and most valuable treasure of humanity." (2)

So, by His above well-known teachings and by our own sadhana, each and every Margii knows that bhakti is something very sacred-- the best quality. Furthermore, Baba reveals one other highly unique aspect of bhakti.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Only bhakti is permanent

Next, Baba pointedly guides us that bhakti remains with us throughout-- not only in this life, but life, after life, after life. The bhakti that we have never leaves us. And it is this very bhakti which carries us up to that eternal supreme stance.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Devotion enables spiritual aspirants to attain the pinnacled goal of their lives. It is this devotion that human beings have been seeking since time immemorial. When they finally attain the Guru and get initiation, then they begin to walk on this path of devotion. And those who have started on this path realize that they are sure to reach their destination, that to reach their goal is the sole reason for their birth. You should remember why you have been born. Following the path of devotion, you will have to ultimately reach Parama Purus'a. This is the pinnacled point, the supreme point of human glory. You should always remember this, during your lifetime and even after your death." (3)

So the whole entire idea is that bhakti is a permanent quality, and that it remains with us eternally-- "even after your death". This is Baba's expressed teaching and holy guarantee.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Bhakti: a heavenly attribution

Thus, according to Baba, devotion is a heavenly attribution. It has no parallel. If one has bhakti they have everything. On the other hand, in spite of having all the worldly commodities, if one does not have bhakti then they are a pauper.

The relation between the Lord and the bhakta is eternal. It is beyond the boundary of time, space, and person. That is why it carries from one life to the next, and beyond.

Physical possessions do not last

Our worldly possessions and physical achievements are temporary and fleeting in nature; they are ephemeral. Whether it be one’s clothes, stove, bicycle, or finances, none of these physical things remain with us forever. We just have them for the short-term.

Indeed, in this human life, so many mundane things come and go-- they do not last. Today they are; tomorrow they are not. At some point, sooner or later, they will disintegrate or perish. This is the common reality. Thus, one cannot take any physical property along with them at the time of their death. This is not at all possible. Nor will one necessarily have that wealth in their next life.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Psychic attributions also temporary

A similar fate exists for psychic qualifications. The knowledge one has in this life, one may or may not have in the next life. A Samskrta professor may not even remember a single syllable of Samskrta after his death. In his next life, he may not have even an iota of understanding of Samskrta. And the same is the case with all the intellectual knowledge and facts and figures which we acquire in this life. All of that is short-lived; we hardly remember much of it in this lifetime - let alone the next. So psychic knowledge too is temporary and fleeting. From one life to the next, people lose and gain so many things in the physical and psychic realms. Because none of those things are permanent.

Conclusion: spiritual wealth is ever-lasting

In contrast, one's spiritual wealth is ever-lasting; bhakti for Parama Purusa is permanent-- eternal. In each and every case, bhakti carries over from one life to the next. It remains with us and increases, incarnation after incarnation, till we reach our final Goal-- Baba.

A clear-cut case of this is that in their early childhood some persons are great bhaktas and completely sadhana-minded. This is because of their accumulated bhakti from previous lives.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here the whole idea is that bhakti is never lost. Whatever bhakti one acquires remains with them from one life to the next. And whatever amount of devotion which gets aroused in their next life will be added to their existing amount. Like this, it goes on and on. Never is a drop of devotion lost. Rather it keeps growing and becoming more and more. Bhakti is one's only permanent property. This is Baba's eternal mandate: That bhakti is ever-lasting.

In Him,
Parashram

If one has bhakti that is everything

Here Baba guides us that when one has the permanent attribution of devotion, then they have everything and they will get eternal salvation.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Bhakti (Devotion) is the best of all the means for attaining Moks'a. Whatever a sa'dhaka has to do is to be done for the arousal of Bhakti. He is not the beggar of anything except Bhakti. When one's Bhakti is once attained one is not a pauper but an emperor." (4)

Bhakti is our permanent possession

Here, again, in this following teaching Baba reveals how only devotion remains along with us from one life to the next. And that this bhakti is what leads us to our cherished goal, that is, our beloved Baba.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "You have no other wealth superior to devotion. All other worldly possessions will prove of no avail. Only devotion enables you to come into close contact with Him. This is the goal of human life. This is true process."   "You have been wandering through the labyrinth of a myriad of lives. You have been ever advancing toward this stage. Knowingly or unknowingly you are being drawn unto Him. This is the summum bonum of life." (5)

Stays with us even after death

Here again is Baba's most gracious blessing where He guides us that our devotional feelings are our permanent property and that they will remain with us even after our death-- till we ultimately reach up to Him.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "Following the path of devotion, you will have to ultimately reach Parama Purus'a. This is the pinnacled point, the supreme point of human glory. You should always remember this, during your lifetime and even after your death." (6)

You are eternal

“Rúper májháre tomáre peyechi, rúpátiita ogo cinmaya, tumi…” (Prabhat Samgiita #0562)

Purport:

O’ Formless One, I have found You in the glorious form of Taraka Brahma, the Entity that bridges the manifested and unmanifested universe. O’ Cognition Personified, You are the very essence of everything, visible and invisible. O’ Manomaya, You are bhávátiita; You are beyond all thought and ideation. By Your grace alone, I have seen and held You in deep meditation.

Baba, the waves of the ocean splash over Your rosy feet. My mental offerings are being decorated beneath Your altar forever. O' Álokmaya, You were, You are, and You will remain forever as infinite refulgence.

When the earth gets infused with the spring season, and when the earth is covered with colourful flowers everywhere, or when the cool, crisp breeze of autumn makes the distant sky dance with Your divine play, O’ Glorified Entity, in that grand ambience, You are ever-present in the center as the nucleus. You are the cause behind each and every expression. You remain ever-glorified amidst all; You are both within and without each and every entity…

Recipe for success - 2

Namaskar,

Every human being wants to be successful. Who does not want to be successful? Whether in the realm of art, law, medicine, schooling, business, literature, science, or architecture - or any other field or endeavor - everyone wants to be successful. Knowing how to be successful then is an important recipe.

Baba has graciously given us His special guidelines wherein He explains how the 'Seven Secrets of Success' apply not just to spiritual life, but to worldly life as well. Here we examine the second secret of success: vishvása.

Vishvása: In spiritual life this means having firm determination for one's Goal. Yet Baba guides us that in worldly life this is also needed. If before studying for an exam, a student thinks that, "I will never be able to pass", then they are doomed. Certainly they will not be able to get success. Similarly, if an adult walks into a job interview thinking that, "I will not be able to get this job - it is beyond my qualifications", then they will have little or no chance of getting that job. So vishvása in worldly life is a big point. It refers to having confidence and a positive outlook before pursuing any endeavour.

Baba has blessed us all with great teachings which lead us to success, including how to utilize the Seven Secrets of Success in our worldly endeavours. So we should pay heed to this doctrine not just in spiritual life but in all our worldly dealings as well.

Baba says, "You, boys and girls, should remember the points and do accordingly. It will help you in your all-around success." (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 14, Seven Secrets)

Namaskar,
Bhakti Bhusana

Why sadhaka must have Saḿskrta name + 2 more

Baba

Why sadhaka must have Saḿskrta name

Namaskar,

Some feel uncomfortable using their Saḿskrta names in public. Yet those Saḿskrta names give deep meaning and spiritual value to their life. We all know that Baba's unique system of Saḿskrta names is one key aspect of the universal culture of our Ananda Marga and integral to the formation of one human society.

Baba's story in DMC

(1) During His tour of Berlin Sector, Baba Himself was emphasizing the importance of Saḿskrta names. Time and again, He beautifully explained the meaning of various names and, on multiple occasions, He also corrected the then PA Dada ji's pronunciation of Saḿskrta names. This all shows how Baba was very particular on this point, and one beautiful scene also comes to mind.

At one DMC, we held our usual kaoshikii and tandava contests and, when Dada ji called out the names of the participants, he announced the name of one sister, Ama'vati. Immediately, Baba pointed out that this name meant “darkness” or “new moon”; and, then and there, in front of one and all, Baba graciously told that her name should be Jyotismati, meaning “divine effulgence”. And, in that special way, that sister took on this new name. Certainly this was Baba's blessing on her. Here, the overall idea is that clearly Baba was ensuring every sadhaka has a proper Saḿskrta name.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Infusion of spirituality

Here are some of the well known facts about Saḿskrta.

(2) The AM system of Saḿskrta names has a beautiful and deep spiritual significance. These Saḿskrta names have a proper spiritual meaning and that is why Baba has implemented this system in AM. Baba is always encouraging the use of Saḿskrta names because they make human existence glorified and meaningful. Human life is an ideological flow-- so ideology should be reflected in each and every action.

So Saḿskrta names carry a special vibration and import. Whereas legal names etc from most other languages, especially from many European countries, do not have any meaning—or they may even carry some dogmatic meaning.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Point of unity

(3) Every Ananda Margii knows that Baba has created a beautiful system to form one human society. In that system, we will all have common names using the commonality of the Saḿskrta language. Baba has beautifully explained in His grammar books, and in so many other discourses, that Saḿskrta links to most of the world’s languages. The overall sense is that Saḿskrta names provide a social spark and a beautiful spiritual link.

(4) So Saḿskrta is a unifying language for the entire world. Saḿskrta has a relationship with most languages because they have their roots in Saḿskrta. So the common language for naming can only be done through Saḿskrta. Due to its unique connection with nearly every language base, Saḿskrta unifies humanity and serves as a tool for forming one human society.

(5) Naturally then Saḿskrta should be treated as one's own. Today, most of the major languages have Saḿskrta roots in one form or another. So Saḿskrta stands as a common bond that unites all people.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba's distinct style

(6) In His Ananda Vacanamrtam series, Baba has given several discourses explaining Saḿskrta names.
(7) When Baba initiated new avadhutas, He always gave new names and explained the meaning of those names. This further demonstrates how Baba places much importance on the Saḿskrta language and that it is the ideal language for naming.
(8) Our spiritual names have deep significance, and, as Saḿskrta is such a concentrated language, even small words contain a very detailed and elaborate meaning.
(9) Furthermore, using Saḿskrta names is Baba’s beautiful blessing on humanity, and we should be strict in following His dharmic guidelines and system on the use of Saḿskrta names.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do not have a Saḿskrta name should be given one...The Saḿskrta name should be used in all worldly dealings." (2)

Conclusion

Here's is Baba's blessing that in each and every sphere of life we have the opportunity to implement dharma in the society.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "In this entire universe, the wind is blowing in our favour. It is the most opportune time to do something for the present and future humanity. At this critical juncture one moment of time has the value of 100 years. Utilise the present position -- utilise the situation." (3)

Namaskar,
In Him,
Ba’ba’shiis’a

We should be courageous

(10) So all margiis should feel proud to use their Saḿskrta name. However, those who lack basic courage or suffer from laja (shyness), often just give their mundane name when introducing themselves-- or when writing etc. And good family margiis always give their children a Saḿskrta name, and that is their real name which is used in all legal matters. In this way, we are moving forward at a very fast speed in making one human society where all are moving in the same direction, i.e. towards Parama Purusa.

Saḿskrta names bring beauty & charm

(11) The use of Saḿskrta names is very important. It is a key ingredient in life, and, without that, life is lackluster. It is just like whatever recipe you make, if there is a lack of salt, it becomes tasteless. Likewise for those margiis not using a Saḿskrta name, their personality is devoid of charm. By not using or writing the Saḿskrta name, that exposes the whole identity that this person is a new margii. Those who are bhaktas easily understand all these points. But due to lack of bhakti and / or materialistic tendencies, some feel shy to use their Saḿskrta names.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Cause of not using

(12) Baba says in SS part III that those who are not established on the path of spirituality are shy to practice in front of others. So usually those who do not have deep devotion, feel shy to reveal themselves as Ananda Margiis and they feel shy to tell others that they are vegetarian and most of the time they do not like to tell or use their own Saḿskrta name. Or the Saḿskrta names of others. But this is only because of their weakness of the mind and lack of proper moral strength. In Subhasita Samgraha part 3, Baba explains that those who suffer from such a weakness of mind due to materialism or other negative philosophies get these psychic complexes.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Those who are reared in the cradle of materialistic ideologies, feel shy or ashamed at first to sit in meditation in the presence of others." (1)

Likewise, those who do not like to use their own Saḿskrta name in public is the expression of a new sadhaka, as evidenced by the above teaching.

Following our dharma

(13) Baba's beautiful ideas about Saḿskrta should be propagated more and more. By that way, along with sadhana, new and old sadhakas will easily cultivate the requisite courage to use their Saḿskrta name for all realms of life. That shyness to use their Saḿskrta name will fade away. So this is another reason why Baba's teachings related with Saḿskrta should be highlighted and explained.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Universality of Saḿskrta

These following interesting and unique points given by Baba all point towards the universality of the Saḿskrta language and how most of the various local languages from around the globe find their roots and origin in the Saḿskrta.

Ananda Marga philosophy states: "In Saḿskrta the word 'duhitr' is derived by adding trn' to the verbal root duh-- in Latin, duhitar; in modern English, 'daughter'. Since the word 'duhitr' contains the letter 'ha', the English 'daughter' is also spelled  with an 'h', however over time its pronunciation has been lost. From this it can clearly be deduced that both English and Saḿskrta are Vedic languages, hence the many similarities between the two. For example, the word "night" is naktram' in Vedic and noctrum in old Latin. The Latin adjective is 'nocturnal'." (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Silik in Arabic means 'fine fibre'. The fine fibres that came to Bengal from China were given the Saḿskrta name ciina'm'shuka. This cinna'm'shuka was given the Farsi name resham and the Arabic name silk. Arab merchants used to export this cinna'm'shuka to the markets of Europe. When they were heard saying the Arabic word in Europe, cinna'm'shuka became 'silk' with the help of a little fault pronunciation." (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The proper eating and digesting of the surplus food in the appendix is called romanthana in Saḿskrta … In good English we call it "rumination" and in spoken English "chewing the cud." (6)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The word jina'na (knowledge) is derived from the Saḿskrta root verb jina' (to know).... The verb jina' was changed into keno in old Latin language. In Saḿskrta the pronunciation is jina', in Bengali jina, in the Rgvedic language jina, in Old Latin keno, and in Modern English "know"-- as the original spelling of the word was "kenow", we still spell the word with a "k" at the beginning without actually pronouncing it." (YP) Baba says, "Vedic Saḿskrta is a language about 15,000 years old... in Saḿskrta each and every word is created from a root verb." (7)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Sam'skrta is a classical subject as well as an ancient language. It is the mother of all the mother languages of South Asia and Southeast Asia." (8)

Ananda Marga philosophy says. "There is a very close relationship between Vedic and all other classical languages of the world. If Vedic is properly nourished and encouraged it will encourage the unity of the world and a cordial relationship amongst human beings will develop." (9)

Ananda Marga philosophy explains, "Latin is the daughter of Vedic and so is Sam'skrta. If Sam'skrta is used human unity will be encouraged and human beings will move closer together. See how sweet the link is between Vedic, Sam'skrta and the other classical languages of the world? So you should encourage the study of Sam'skrta." (10)

Hence it is clear that Saḿskrta is one unifying force and that is linked with all languages of the globe. Hence every person has the right to call Saḿskrta as their own.

Nowadays, when the world is moving deeper and deeper into crisis, more and more margiis and acaryas will have a greater role to play in the general society. People are looking for answers and directions about which way to go. They see that politicians are trustless, various disasters are on the rise, and psychic tension is increasing. As a means of finding some calm in all this chaos, many are turning to yoga, which is experiencing a world-wide boom. So, from many angles, the common society is reaching out for answers, and, by Baba's grace, we can provide them with the proper path.

My entire being

"A'mi bhule gechi sei dine ks'an' yabe toma're dekechi anupam..." (Prabhat Samgiita #1147)

Purport:

My Parama Purusa, I have forgotten the time and day when I first saw You, but the sweet memory and the spiritual vibration are still resonating in my mind. My most Dear, You are anupam - the Incomparable One. Even now when I think about You, that nectar of grace is ever-present.

From the vibration that is emanating from the vast blue sky, the omkara sound resounds and floats in the air. I became lost in that form and attraction. That divine ecstasy permeates my whole existence and overpowers my entire being with that supreme love.

Baba, the infinite kindness and sweet aroma which You showered on the animate entities of this dusty earth You also bestowed eternally in my mind. By listening to the melody of the song which You sang, even the most filthy became perfectly pure.

Baba, my Beloved, I forgot that very special moment when You blessed me with Your blissful prema. But when I think about You, that love becomes alive and my whole self gets vibrated; it saturates my heart. Baba You are so gracious; Your love is unforgettable...

Place of devayonis

Baba
Place of devayonis

Namaskar,

Every sadhaka is aware about devayonis, i.e. different types of microvita beings. And here we take a look at where these luminous bodies fit in the cycle of creation, or srsti cakra. The following points address this query as well as other related topics about devayonis.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

How people become devayonis

(A) We have all read in our AM Elementary Philosophy book how the process of pratisaincara (the 2nd half of brahmacakra) starts with the plant and animal kingdoms and progresses towards human life and life divine. There it explains that neither plants nor animals become devayonis directly. Rather, it is only after one has first attained the human form that one can then take rebirth as a devayoni. It is wholly dependent on a human being’s conduct and mental inclination that will lead them to become a devayoni. Accordingly, with regards to the cycle of creation (a.k.a srsti cakra), all devayonis fall within the realm of pratisaincara.

(B) Some might ask how or why one becomes a devayoni? And they might follow-up that query with: Is this good or bad? Essentially, when a human being develops their mind in a particular avenue to an extremely advanced stage in any faculty, but wholly forgets about Parama Purusa, then they degenerate and become a devayoni. This type of degeneration into microvita is precipitous, and it may take that person a very long time to again get human life.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

They are under punishment

(C) Devyonis are under punishment, and that is why they are missing the solid and liquid factors. Verily, they only have three factors: luminous, aerial, and ethereal. And when their samskara is exhausted then they may / might get human life. So only after burning their samskara can they again attain human form. And then they have to successfully navigate human life, get onto the path of sadhana, and practice intensively. Then and only then might they get mukti / moksa. So theirs is a multi-layered journey, and they have a long way to go.

(D) When one becomes a devayoni / microvita being then that is merely a temporary assignment, though it might be for as long as 100 million years or more. However, it is not that one will suffer in that manner permanently or up to eternity. It is not the equivalent of the Semitic notion of eternal damnation. Rather, that entity has taken the form of a devayoni in order to burn a particular type or samskara. And when that samskara is fulfilled, they may again get human life.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Reborn as microvita

(E) Those human beings that err and get reborn as microvita had a subtle mind. They were not pashas (animals) in human form. They were developed beings who misused or pointed their aim towards an extremely advanced stage in any faculty, like knowledge or beauty, instead of goading their mind towards Parama Purusa.

(F) Devayonis are positive microvita, and pretayonis are negative microvita. One can become either one; it all depends upon their actions.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

The main thing for a sadhaka to remember is that human life is for sadhana and the attainment of Parama Purusa. The only way to avoid this precipitous downfall of becoming a devayoni is to always yearn for Him and surrender at His lotus feet.

In Him,
Prema Prabhu

~ In-depth study ~

Here below are some of Baba’s key teachings on devayonis etc.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Although there are seven varieties of pretayonis – that is, negative microvita – there may be some other pretayonis besides these. Similarly, there are seven varieties of devayonis – that is, positive microvita – and besides these there may also be other varieties of positive microvita. The seven varieties of devayoni are yakśa, kinnara, gandharva, vidyádhara, prakrtiliina, videhaliina and siddha.”

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Devayonis are positive microvita. Though siddhas are elevated human beings, those who have some aesthetic attraction for physical objects like money, ornaments, etc., become kinnaras after their demise. As spiritual aspirants they are elevated to some extent, and as human beings they are decent, but they prayed to Parama Puruśa for beauty instead of for Parama Puruśa Himself. Such people, after their demise, attain the status of kinnara devayonis.”

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Devayonis are composed of three fundamental factors – ethereal, aerial and luminous. The solid and liquid factors are left on the earth after the death of the physical body.”

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Those who want Parama Puruśa but worship crude matter out of misguided devotion attain the state of prakrtiliina after they die. These disembodied minds are transformed into bricks, stone, wood, etc. Those who pray to the idols made of clay, metal or wood out of misguided devotion can never attain Parama Puruśa because one can never attain supreme knowledge through this type of worship. The state of prakrtiliina is very miserable indeed because human beings who are endowed with a developed consciousness get transformed into crude matter like stone, wood, etc.”

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “If one sits for meditation in that particular place where these devayonis exist in the form of stone or wood in ardent expectation of their emancipation, positive microvita will help a spiritual aspirant. As they are devayonis, they do not harm anyone – rather they assist spiritualists.”

Satsaunga

"Ya'ra' toma'y bha'laba'se, toma'r tarei kande ha'se..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2239)

Purport:

Baba, to those loving You, smiling, crying and dancing only for You, may my message be heard in their ears. Here is my note for those moving in Your divine flow.

Baba, to those loving only You, I have tremendous reverence and honour for them in my mind, for bhaktas. I will always remember their greatness and dedication. For such great people, I wander and travel all around to have their proximity, with an expectation of having their satsaunga and finding fulfilment. I want their company in order to hear tales about You, and so we may do kiirtana and sadhana together. Let such bhaktas know my feeling.

Such great bhaktas are my own. They are my kith and kin, and my life is for them. My colourful dreams take shape by coming in contact with such great personalities. Baba, those dancing in Your cosmic rhythm and moving according to Your dictates are great bhaktas and the vanguards of society. My time gets properly utilized when I come in contact with such great bhaktas. They are venerable for me...

Misdirected samadhi

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "By the way you should know that samádhi does not only occur as a result of a certain realization; other samádhis can occur on indriyas or the five fundamental factors. When the mind is focused on a particular object and becomes intensely concentrated it is called samádhi. According to spiritual science the samádhi attained when the entire mind is pin-pointed on Parama Puruśa is called prajiṋá samádhi."
"When a sádhaka focuses his or her mind on the solid factor (solid is one of the five fundamental factors) and thinks “I am the earth” he or she attains kśitibhaetik samádhi, losing all practical intelligence in the process. Those who constantly think about rupees or dollars attain a kind of samádhi, too, for they become completely identified with their crude object of attraction. If such people incur heavy losses due to the collapse of their business or bank, they will die an instant death, for the pillars on which their life was built crumbled beneath them. So, once they lost their wealth, they lost their lives too." (1)

Story of my own cousin

Note: Tragically, my own cousin experienced this type of negative samadhi. During the last economic downturn, he became very worried about his finances. He had an inheritance of 20 million dollars, and he thought he was going to lose it all. He experienced a very strange, deep, dark depression and feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.

Finally, his mind just stopped - and he sat there frozen - completely fixated on the prospect of losing all his money. He sat in a comatose state completely engrossed in thoughts about losing money - everything else in his mind vanished. It was just money, money, money. He skipped his food, ignored natural call, and sat in one spot all day long for almost 1 week. He did not die, but he came very close to death. When at last he emerged from this state, he was totally unaware about what had happened. It was as if he had been in a vacuum.

Baba's warning is that mundane things like money or wealth should never be one's object of ideation. Worldly things are by definition transient. They slip away. And when that happens, people become shocked, even negative samadhi. This becomes very serious for those who were very attached with those objects. They will fall into a state of terrible misery, and perhaps even death.

Best is to goad and point the mind to Parama Purusa. Because if one is fixated on the mundane and prone to that negative type of samadhi then one may remain depressed or even resort to suicide…

In Him,
Sudhiindra

Like dog chewing dry bone

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Under the influence of avidyá, people become so infatuated that they forget the difference between pure and impure; and so greedy that they eat rotten meat, choose to forget that alcohol is bad for health, and even try to prove the unholy as being holy by force of logic. Some people claim that eating meat and drinking alcohol are a part of dharma sádhaná; and some state they eat meat to maintain their health and strength."
"Lost in blind pursuit for finite objects, people fail to realize that the pleasure they derive will actually bring more sorrow in the future. An alcoholic does not understand that heavy drinking severely damages the liver: an opium addict does not understand that the temporary pleasure derived from the drug gradually benumbs the nervous system. This mistaking pain to be pleasure is caused by the influence of avidyá. Those who succumb to this influence can be likened to a dog chewing on a dry bone in a burial ground. The dog thinks that the blood oozing out of its jaws comes from the dry bones and greedily bites even harder, further damaging its jaws. The poor animal wrongly thinks sorrow is happiness." (1)

Note: You might have come across how even some proper humans get degenerated and indulge in all kinds of vices. The root cause is their free will and avidya maya. The way avidya maya binds humans it does not do to animals. Humans have freedom / free will and they are therefore more prone to be bound by avidya maya. So avidya maya allures them and pushes them into the deep, dark chasm. And they degenerate. That is the sorry state of affairs. That is why sometimes you see that even those who were once great monks end up leading a degenerated life. If the noose of avidya maya is very strong then they do not realise their downfall either. They cannot understand that they are so degenerated, just like most of our purodha ji maharajas.
