All 4 qualities needed + 4 more

Baba

All 4 qualities needed
Namaskar,

Just around the time when Baba created VSS, He delivered one special discourse to guide everyone to develop all four qualities of their human personality. There He teaches us that to best serve humanity one should be able to evaluate the needs of suffering humanity and then provide the appropriate service. For instance, teaching philosophy (viprocita seva) to a starving person is completely inappropriate; rather, that person should be fed (shudrocita seva). Baba guides us to develop all four aspects of our human personality so we can best serve humanity.

Baba guides us that every Ananda Margii must develop 4 qualities of their human personality to become an ideal human being. Those 4 qualities of mind are: shúdra, kśatriya, vipra, and vaeshya. By cultivating each of these qualities of mind, one becomes a sadvipra - otherwise not. If one is missing or deficient in any of these aspects they are not a sadvipra. If one is cowardly then they are not a sadvipra. Here it should be emphasized that shúdra, kśatriya, vipra, and vaeshya do not refer to a particular caste.

How 98-year-old woman can be kśatriya

At the same time, in that discourse Baba places special emphasis on the importance of becoming a true kśatriya, in addition to the other qualities. The special attribute of a kśatriya - of being courageous and strong mentally - is that hard outer, protective shell. In individual life, that outer sheath or kśatriyan quality protects the soft, inner, sentient quality of bhakti. In the past, bhaktas did not develop themselves as kśatriyas, and in result they were exploited and forced to suffer untold humiliation and pain. Ultimately, their inner quality of bhakti was also smothered. So a hard protective shell is needed to stand guard and preserve one's sentient feelings of bhakti. That is the importance of becoming a kśatriya on the individual level.

We have to remember that being a vipra, vaeshya, kśatriya, and shúdra means having that quality of mind. Even a 98-year-old woman who cannot walk is a kśatriya if she has the psychic tenacity and courage to fight against injustice and exploitation. While a brawny, 30-year-old weightlifter will not be a kśatriya if he lacks the requisite courage to stand up to injustices.

As Ananda Margiis, we must cultivate all four qualities, and that is what Baba is preaching in His below discourse. In particular, He is giving special importance to becoming a kśatriya and developing that hard outer shell as a protective layer of society. Baba warns us that if there is no cadre of kśatriyas like VSS etc in Ananda Marga, then all one's social service projects will be looted and destroyed by bad people. That is why VSS is needed; then one's endeavors of doing social service will be successful and stand the test of time, otherwise not.

Baba's discourse: tough outer shell needed

Here following is an English summary of that Hindi General Darshan (Patna) where Baba tells that the kśatriyan mentality is that needed outer sheath to protect and safeguard social service projects etc. That is why this discourse is uniquely linked with the formation of VSS.

(Original Hindi printed as Pure Discourse #97 from Ananda Vacanamrtam - Part 35 (Pure), chapter 15, "समाज की रक्षा और सेवा")

Earlier I told that every person should develop the characteristics of a vipra, vaeshaya, kśatriya, and shúdra. For example, in social service, the greatest is viprocita seva, i.e. dharma pracara, propagating moral principles and awakening a righteous intellect in human beings. (Summary of Baba’s Hindi discourse)

But for the security of honesty of the people it needs a hard outer shell. Suppose you built many schools, colleges, factories and dams, they too need to be safeguarded. I told that if there had not been a hard shell of the tortoise or wood apple, the crow would have eaten them. Therefore you should have the strength of a kśatriya in order to defend your honesty, wisdom, and sentient nature.

[ Audience..."Baba Baba Baba!" ]

You have to develop the power of a kśatriya to defend the society, and provide all sorts of protection including the honour of the mothers and sisters, defending the country from external attack. There should not be the slightest bit of procrastination or slackness in this regard. Those who cannot defend themselves cannot progress.

In ancient times, people used to say, "Yogiis and sages would live in a governed state where law and order is maintained and whose king is strong." That was the age of the dictatorship so the king was expected to be strong, but now we would say, "where the government is strong." Therefore citizens should help the government in order to maintain law and order, and defense. When under attack, we will have to help our soldiers defend the country. For that we require kśatriyan power, there should be no slackness. (English summary of Baba’s Hindi discourse)

Kśatriyan quality to safeguard other services

So, the viprocita seva is stable but who helps this service? The kśatriya. People have problems regarding food and clothing, and there are various problems in the society; we will have to form a strong socio-economic structure to solve these problems. The task of making a strong socio-economic structure is the vaeshyocita seva.  You will not explain philosophy to those who are starving - they need food, clothing, and medicine. Hence you will do vaeshyocita seva, providing these commodities to them. If a weak person is being tortured by a strong person, he will not require your food or philosophy but he will need you to defend him.

Intellectual service is best, but it requires the support of kśatriyocita and vaeshyocita seva. Suppose one does not possess intellect he will not be able to do intellectual service; likewise  one who has no power can’t defend others; similarly, without money one cannot perform economic  service; hence such people can do service to the society by their physical labour- this is shúdrocita seva. But it would have been better if each person possessed all the four types of characteristics together. Only that will do the important work to society. (English summary of Baba’s Hindi discourse)

Sadhakas should have all four qualities

The spiritual aspirants will become vipra, vaeshaya, kśatriya, and shúdra together. There should be no slackness anywhere in this field. You all should be vigilant, awakened, and prepared in all respects so that the whole human society is benefited by your services.

I told yesterday evening that all are the children of Paramatma and when they are His loving children, they may be wise or foolish, strong or weak, scholarly or dumb, they will be able to do something. Nobody is less, mean or insignificant. Be prepared, you will be able to do much more. When you will start your work with full determination you will see how much power is hidden inside you. (English summary of Baba’s Hindi discourse)

Below is the Hindi transcription of that Hindi General Darshana as printed in Ananda Vacanamrtam - Part 35 (Pure), chapter 15, "समाज की रक्षा और सेवा", Pure Discourse #97.

The above is the Hindi transcription of that Hindi General Darshana as printed in Ananda Vacanamrtam - Part 35 (Pure), chapter 15, "समाज की रक्षा और सेवा", Pure Discourse #97.

Conclusion

In His above teaching, Baba guides us about the importance of cultivating the courage and tenacity of a kśatriya. That internal toughness and strong outer sheath will enable us to protect the good works that we perform in the world. If one does the other three services - such as building a school, donating to a women’s shelter, or preaching the great ideology, those works will not last if one does not have the kśatriyan quality to safeguard those projects. Ultimately, Baba guides us that every Ananda Margii has to perform all four types of service. And in His discourse He emphasizes how having a kśatriyan mentality supports the other three types of service.

Proutist are shudra, ksatriya, vipra & vaeshya - all in one

There are four mental colours in human society: shudra (labourers), kśatriya (security personnel), vipra (intellectuals), vaeshyas (business people). These are four mindsets. In the general society, every country is governed by one of these four characteristics. That era is denoted by their mental colour. For instance, if intellectuals are ruling that is the vipran era. And if security people are in power that is the kśatriyan era etc. The worst part is that the ruling group always exploits the remaining three classes. If kśatriyas are ruling then they exploit the shudras, vipras, and vaeshyas. Nowadays the business class is ruling most of the countries. That is why the condition of the other three classes is terrible. The key idea is that true Ananda Margiis should have all four qualities. That is why they are classless. And they are called Proutists as well. Under Proutist rule, there will not be any exploitation because no person ever exploits themselves. There will be no partiality towards any particular class. That is what the below teaching guides us.

Prout philosophy states, “The establishment of a classless society is only possible for those who accept Parama Puruśa [Supreme Consciousness] as the goal of their lives, for those whose entire mental power is ceaselessly directed towards one supreme goal. In a society where there is no class struggle, the remaining classes will have to disappear and all people will have to unite under the banner of one common ideology. This can only be done by sadvipras.” (3)

It is the rule that every margii should do shudrocita seva, viprocita seva, kśatriyocita seva, and vaeshyocita seva daily, and become a sadvipra.

Deep within my heart

PS Intro: In the following song the bhakta is making a loving accusation to Parama Purusa. By Baba's grace such high feelings come when there is extreme intimacy and pure, one-pointed love-- bhakti for Ista. Then in that case the bhakta feels internally that he has the right to demand and place his accusation at Lord's feet. So the following song is the expression of deep love for Baba.

"Ekahno ki prabhu toma'y du're tha'ka' bha'lo dekha'y..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2332)

Purport:

Baba with deep longing in my heart I go on calling You. How can You feel good when You do not pay heed to my call. Do You think that this is appropriate. In beckoning You again and again my voice got hoarse until finally I completely lost my voice. But Your heart never melted.

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, on which dusty earth have You sent me-- thus pushing me far from You. Why have You forgotten me. Is this the definition of Your love. Should I believe that what You are doing is proper.

O’ Parama Purusa, Your liila is unfathomable; it is beyond my understanding. Why do You do like this. I do not have the proper language to express myself, but all these feelings which I am sharing with You come from deep within my heart.

O’ Parama Purusa, sometimes You make me cry & float in my tears; and sometimes You make me laugh when my heart is filled with Your longing. Baba, I do not know what to do. How long do I have to wait for Your heart to melt. Please come...

Cancerous ills of degraded pop icons

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us, "Strict vigilance should be kept over the purity of their individual conduct. They should not become the cause of a disease which invades the whole social body like a cancer. If actors and actresses fail to acquire a basic level of personal purity or are reluctant to acquire it, it will be the duty of society and the state to compel them to lead good lives by creating circumstantial pressure. No matter how talented they may be, immoral actors and actresses will have to be deprived of their right to exhibit their artistic talents, and sent to reform schools." (1)

Here Baba is guiding us that those leading debauched lives must not be allowed to work in the art and entertainment industry - whether they be actors, actresses, singers or performers etc. This applies to all those artists leading promiscuous lives. Naturally, this also includes the gay and lesbian community that is well-known for engaging in the arts and leading sensually depraved lives. Such persons must be forced to lead a sentient life or be removed from the stage.

The real danger is that if they fail to reform themselves, then with their degrading habits and high-profile life they will adversely affect and harm others, especially impressionable youths. Sadly, we have seen a few cases like this in AMPS where artistically-inclined, gay / lesbian musicians and songwriters etc wreaked havoc on innocent margiis by using their star power and manipulating them into relationships etc. Many in numerous sectors have been badly abused by such depraved singers.

That is why Guru's definitive statement is that only those artists who are strict in Sixteen Points may perform. All others must be forced to rectify their conduct. Until then, they are not allowed to appear on the public stage etc.

In Him,
Rasamay

Spirit of punishing wrongdoer

Ananda Marga ideology says, "And what is discipline? The Sam'skrta term for 'discipline' is 'anusha'sanam'. And what is anusha'sanam?"

Hita'rthe sha'sanam ityarthe anusha'sanam

"When the code of discipline is imposed with the spirit of welfare, with the spirit of development, it is called `anusha'sanam' in Sam'skrta. There is no corresponding English word." (1)

Note: Commonly people think that discipline means "anusha'sanam" - regardless of the motive or intention. For instance, suppose someone did something wrong and was punished; yet the punishment given to that person was done with the malevolent motive of spite, anger, and hatred in order to harass that person, then still some people term that as "anusha'sanam." But that is wrong; that type of approach can never be termed as anusha'sanam.

Unfortunately, most of the time in the general society, punishment is meted out to make an example of the wrongdoer and show others that they too will be punished in this way etc. This is the harsh message they want to deliver to the common people. But that approach is wholly devoid of any type of welfare motive. Law enforcement agencies carry out their work in this way - most of the time. They do this in the name of discipline. But whatever they call it, this malevolent approach can never be anusha'sanam.

Ideal family life is radically different. In this instance, the desire is to love, teach, nurture, and care for the child. So if that child makes a mistake then the punishment given to the child will be for their welfare and progress. In that case, that discipline comes within the scope of anusha'sanam. The main idea is that if the code of discipline is not for the welfare and betterment of the individual, then that is not anusha'sanam.

In Him,
Satyendra

Maximizing sadhana time + 3 more

Baba
Maximizing sadhana time

Namaskar,

This letter examines some key characteristics related with the 3rd and 5th lessons of Ananda Marga sadhana, including how these two lessons can be incorporated more into daily life.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Every free minute for spiritual practice

The life of a sadhaka is dynamic. There are a variety of mundane works and worldly duties to attend to: work, travel, social service, meetings, farming, family, meals, etc. Plus, Baba's eternal guideline is to spend a maximum amount of time in spiritual pursuits: sadhana, kiirtan etc.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "If you have even only one minute's time, do kiirtan for one minute...your sa'dhana' will attain the height of spiritual fulfilment." (1)

So by this we can understand that Baba's main emphasis is that despite worldly schedules a maximum amount of time should be allocated for spiritual practice. Basically we should do sadhana whenever and wherever possible, as that propels us up to the height of human glory. Here following are some suggestions on how to increase time in meditation despite having a busy and often unpredictable routine.

When we can't sing or after a meal

Apart from our specially designated twice daily sadhana regimen, often we get moments of free time throughout the day that can be utilised for spiritual endeavours. For example, sometimes we might attend a conference or a meeting, and before the speaker begins we may have a free minute or two.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Other times, we may be sitting and waiting for a friend or an associate. Or it might be during a short break in the planting season. Invariably, we get pockets of time that can be transformed into spiritual moments. The question is what practice should be done when, and how to best utilise these small pockets of time. Kiirtan is an ideal way to spiritualise many small pockets of time. And Baba guides us in this manner as well.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Instead of wasting your time in gossiping, in useless idle pursuits, you should do kiirtana even for two minutes or five minutes, whenever you get the opportunity...So do kiirtana, sing kiirtana, chant kiirtana, whenever and wherever possible." (2)

So kiirtan is an ideal way to fill the gaps throughout the day. Yet not all times are conducive for singing kiirtan or Prabhat Samgiita - such as when in certain public venues or in areas where we must be quiet, such as a library or research center etc. Spiritual chanting is not always an option, but in that circumstance one can do mantra japa or short dhyana.

But other times, such as after a meal or light fare etc, one might think that sadhana is not an option. It is well-known that doing sadhana on an empty stomach is best - optimal. Nonetheless, when we find ourselves with free time after having recently completed a meal, even then there are two lessons that can be properly practiced. And that is the focus of this letter.

When third & fifth lessons are best

Despite having taken food, third lesson (tattva dharana) and fifth lesson (cakra shodhana) can still be practiced. This is one of the unique qualities of these two lessons. Certainly, that does not mean one should specifically plan to eat and then do 3rd and 5th lessons.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Rather, sometimes we are in circumstances that are suited to doing sadhana, even if we just ate. For instance, if after food one is traveling on the train and has no other work, or if one is sitting and waiting for someone, one may compromise on which posture they sit in for sadhana as they had no opportunity to take proper rest after eating food. It is good to do half-sadhana (repeat ista mantra) after food; the main reason is that usually after food if one does full sadhana then they often fall asleep. If on certain occasions a sadhaka has some time after food and they want to utilise it for sadhana then they can do 3rd and 5th as one will not fall asleep.

Here the matter is that in the course of a busy schedule, when free time arises after a meal, then a very good option is to do 3rd and 5th lesson to best utilise the time. By this way, the mind will regain its freshness, and one will maintain psychic equipoise. Both third and fifth lessons infuse spiritual shakti - keeping both body and mind vibrant.

Senior acarya diary offers very pointed and clear distinctions with regards to the practice and visualisation techniques for these two lessons - as well as the use of mantra. If you are not aware about these distinctions then definitely bring this up with your acarya, or talk to a sadhana-oriented Wt in your area. Knowing the proper technique will enable you to practice both 3rd and 5th lesson in a better way, by His grace. And these lessons are unique in that even after food they can be practiced.

No doubt, 1st and 6th lessons are the main mediation lessons of our Ananda Marga sahaja yoga system, but after taking food, it is not easy to practice those lessons. Often one will feel sleepy or groggy and be unable to concentrate properly. In that case, the best option is to do 3rd or 5th lesson. Because even with food in the stomach, one can do both 3rd and 5th lessons. This is one way to maximize one's day for sadhana. If one is not encumbered by having recently taken food, then naturally one can select any meditation lesson they like.

Unique aspects of third & fifth lessons

The main point is that third and fifth lessons help charge the mind and spiritualise one's existence. So due to life circumstances - such as having recently taken food etc, when one is unable to do one of our more advanced lessons like iishvara pranidhan and dhya'na, then doing 3rd or 5th lesson is an excellent use of the time. When we get more time or when the body is better prepared for meditation, then we can do other lessons.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

If we do 3rd and 5th lessons multiple times throughout the day that will keep the mind pointed and make all the other lessons better. Thus even when doing 3rd and 5th lessons throughout the day, one should be vigilant in sitting down twice daily with a tranquil mind and empty stomach and performing all our sadhana lessons. Sadhana will certainly be enhanced.

The overall focus here is how to best spiritualize life and fill it with a maximal amount of time in sadhana, despite challenging schedules and busy lives. Sadguru Baba guides us in numerous discourses that  sadhana is the main endeavour and crowning glory of human life.

Sa'dhana' & sa'dhana'unga

Next comes the distinction between sadhana and sadhanaunga. First lesson (ishvara pranidhana) and sixth lesson (dhya'na) are our main lessons of sadhana since both bring us up to the Goal. By first lesson one reaches up to savikalpa samadhi - liberation or mukti. And with sixth lesson one can reach up to that apex point: nirvikalpa samadhi - salvation or moksa.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Iishvara prańidhána is a more effective practice for the attainment of savikalpa samádhi, because during iishvara prańidhána the mind is temporarily concentrated in the state of ekagrabhumi (the fourth stage of mental development – the state of one-pointedness of mind). Whatever little amount of I feeling still persists can be finally discarded through the practice of dhyána. Asamprajiṋáta samádhi [nirvikalpa samádhi] is attained following the complete elimination of the I-feeling." (3)

For that reason, when the mind is pointed and vibrated then maximum time should be allotted for these lessons - especially dhya'na. However, there are so many practices that we engage in to prepare the mind for meditation, such as: chanting kiirtan, singing Prabhat Samgiita, or engaging in spiritual talk etc. Plus within our sahaja yoga system there are multiple lessons which are actually helping lessons of sadhana, or limbs of sadhana. And these are known as: sa'dhana'unga.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Concentration is a major sádhaná, is a major intuitional sádhaná. But there are certain helping sádhanás. Ásana and práńáyáma, for example, are helping items. They are not sádhaná, they are called sádhanáuṋga." (4)

Both third and fifth lessons fall in this category of sa'dhana'unga, along with pranayama. The reason is that these lessons support the practice of first and sixth lesson. These helping lessons are the building blocks of sadhana and are an indispensable part of doing higher meditation.

Life is a spiritual sadhana

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The wise practise Dharma Sa'dhana' right from infancy because a human life is rare and rarer still is the human life perfected through sa'dhana'." (5)

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Human life is for sa'dhana'." (6)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Those who realise Him in the form of onm'ka'ra', advance along the path of onm'ka'ra' and finally become ensconced in Purus'ottama, the source of onm'kara, the nucleus of all emanations. The unit entities in which His divine expression are fully manifest are said to have attained the height of fulfillment physically, psychically and spiritually. They realise in the core of their hearts that the entire human life is a 'sa'dhana'." (7)

Ananda Vanii says, "Life is a spiritual sa'dhana' and the result of this sa'dhana' is to be offered at the altar of the Supreme." (8)

Conclusion

When life is busy, then we need to know all the ways necessary to spiritualise the day. Using both 3rd and 5th lessons to focus the mind and generate greater spiritual shakti will enhance sadhana. These lessons can also be done after having eaten, if needed. Every sadhaka should make maximum use of their time to keep both body and mind ready for meditation. Toward this end helping lessons or sádhanáuṋga like tattva dharana (3rd) and cakra shodana (5th) are indispensable.

How to maintain & regain spiritual flow

Some have raised the question:  what is the best way to regain your spiritual flow if your mind drifts. Essentially, there are two main approaches for achieving this.

Let's say you took second lesson when you began a particular work and then due to pressure of circumstance you were pulled away from that project and had to attend to a different task. Then one should take second lesson before working on that intermediary project and then when you return to the original work guru mantra should again be taken.

For instance, let's say your neighbor comes to your house and you take Guru mantra (i.e. second lesson) before greeting them at the door. Then while in conversation with them you should be involved in half-sadhana i.e. mantra japa - repetition of ista mantra. Then if your young child starts crying and you leave the conversation with the neighbor to attend to the child, then do second lesson before starting to help the child. When helping the child do half-sadhana. And when that situation is resolved and you are ready to again speak with the neighbor, then take second lesson beforehand and do half-sadhana as you continue your talk with your neighbor.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here is the second scenario: Suppose that same neighbor comes to your door. Before answering the door and greeting him, you take second lesson. Then while interacting with your neighbor your half-sadhana, i.e. mantra japa, is flowing nicely. But at some point in the conversation that flow is lost. The mantra japa is forgotten. At that stage, what should one do? Should you again do second lesson or directly re-begin half sadhana? The answer is that you should just re-start your mantra japa; there is no need to redo second lesson.

The conclusion is that when changing physical activities or taking on new activity then one should do second lesson. And if one is just continuing the same activity then one need not take second lesson every time one’s loses their ideation. Additionally, there is no need to take second lesson in between lessons of sadhana, because the mind is already in a spiritual flow.

Note: Everyone knows that ajapa-japa is the practice of first lesson without shuddhis and without coordinating the mantra with the breath. Thus ajapa-japa, also known as mantra japa, is the repetition of the ista mantra; and, when done during the day with the eyes open, that is half-sadhana. And Guru mantra, brahmavidya, 2nd lesson, brahmacarya, and madhuvidya are all one and the same.

A clear example of how bhagavad dharma in AM is different from Hinduism is that in Hinduism women are prohibited from doing puja or going to temple during their monthly period cycle, whereas in AM everyone is encouraged to do their japa (mantra repetition and spiritual practice) all the 24 hrs. In AM, dharma should always be practiced.

Cowardly sadhakas refrain from opposing injustice

Ananda Marga ideology says, "You must continue doing good to society, and at the same time must fight against the bad...On the path of dharma, one is not only to do noble deeds; one must also fight against the dishonest people both are virtuous actions. There are many good people in the society - noble people engaged in noble deeds - who are not ready to fight against wrongs and injustices. This sort of passive benevolence does not really promote the cause of human progress in the world. What is desirable is to acquire virtue by doing noble deeds and fighting against all sins and crimes. Both are mandatory, both an integral part of dharma." (1)

Note: If we follow Baba's above mandate our organisation will be free from all kinds of negativity. Stagnant minded people will not get the opportunity to pollute Baba's ideology by imposing their dogma.

They are verily the most heroic

Original Ananda Vanii states: “Those who can dedicate their all to the thought of the Great and the inspiration of the Supreme are verily the most heroic. Indeed, they are the virtuous, and they alone are capable of taking human history from darkness to light.”  (Ananda Vanii #22)

Note: Sadguru Baba has assigned a number to all His original and true Ananda Vaniis. In contrast, Fake Ananda Vaniis do not have any number. By this simple formula, one can easily recognise which is a true Ananda Vanii and which is fake. For the upcoming occasion of January 1st 2017, all Ananda Marga units should use one of Baba’s original and true Ananda Vaniis, not a fake one. By this way, one will surely get His blessing.

PS & prayer + 3 more

Baba
PS & prayer

Namaskar,

The basic formula of AM philosophy is this: Asking for something from Parama Purusa is bad. Asking for Parama Purusa Himself is good. In certain deeply spiritual Prabhat Samgiita compositions, the sadhaka is making a request unto Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

For instance, suppose in a song the bhakta is saying:

“My Parama Purusa, please grace me, and give me parabhakti, the highest yearning for You, and take me onto Your lap.”

#1: Seeing this, some may think that this is a form of prayer.
#2: But we all know that AM philosophical teachings guide us that prayer should never be done.

How then to reconcile the two?

A closer examination shows, however, that the above two stances are not contradictory. Firstly, in spiritual life, the sadhaka has every right to ask Parama Purusa for bhakti, i.e. for His grace and closeness. Secondly, prayer carries a completely different meaning and vibration because in that case one is asking for some type of material boon or worldly request from Him. The basic formula of AM philosophy is this: Asking for something from Parama Purusa is bad. Asking for Parama Purusa Himself is good.

Distinction: PS & AM discourses

The next key point to bear in mind is Prabhat Samgiita does not preach AM philosophy but rather presents the mentality and wants of various grades of sadhakas. Those songs reflect the inner thinking and feeling of those particular grades of sadhakas. For instance, C-grade, i.e. lower grade bhaktas, harbour all kinds of worldly and selfish desires, and those various mentalities have been captured in some PS compositions. Similarly, other compositions reflect the heart-felt feeling of top-grade bhaktas. Thus, Prabhat Samgiita stands as testimony of the mentality of various levels of sadhakas as they proceed along the path of spirituality; those songs express all the challenges, hardships, desires, yearnings, and wants of those bhaktas, whether they be first class or third class sadhaka.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In contrast, AM discourses guide us about what ideal sadhakas should do. Ananda Marga philosophy traverses the gamut of human knowledge and beyond, in both individual and collective life. And, as followers of the path of Ananda Marga, we are to adhere to those codes and principles and implement them personally and in social life. So those AM discourses set the standard for human conduct and inform the reader about the ideals of AM teachings.

With this clear distinction in mind, kindly continue reading and consider the following.

Every bhakta should know this

As Ananda Margiis, we should know this response: Why in Ananda Sutram is prayer deemed as useless etc, yet in Prabhat Samgiita there are numerous instances of the sadhaka praying for something, such as the removal of their pain.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

First and foremost, we have to remember that Prabhat Samgiita is for all, i.e. for all levels of bhaktas including those lower sadhakas and 3rd class bhaktas. Such persons like to pray to Parama Purusa and they will even ask Him for mundane things. This is not the ideal approach, yet that is the reality. There are numerous grades of bhaktas and the collection of songs of Prabhat Samgiita has something for them also where they can engage in prayer and ask something from Him etc. Third class sadhakas can use Prabhat Samgiita in this way. But those types of songs are for beginners and lower grade sadhakas. And by this way, step by step, they grow and become great sadhakas, and no longer engage in prayer.

In contrast, AM philosophical teachings outline the ideal way - the path of the highest grade of bhaktas. Because in His philosophical teachings He is teaching us what we should do.

Why prayer is dogma and wrong

“Prárthanárcaná mátraeva bhramamúlam.” (2)

In His above teachings, Sadguru guides us that any type of prayer to Parama Purusa is “useless”. That is why in our Ananda Marga we do not pray to Parama Purusa. Because when He is all-knowing and all-benevolent, then surely He is more about our needs than we are. Anyone who has studied even the basics of Ananda Marga philosophy understands this fact: A true sadhaka will never pray to the Lord.

The basic formula of AM philosophy is this: Asking for something from Parama Purusa is bad. Asking for Parama Purusa Himself is good.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

In the large majority of Prabhat Samgiita, the sadhaka is asking for Parama Purusa, i.e. His grace and closeness etc. And that is proper according to AM teachings. Thus, the compositions of Prabhat Samgiita are in complete concert with the teachings given in the paragraph appended far below from Ananda Marga Elementary Philosophy book. The basic formula of AM philosophy is this: Asking for something from Parama Purusa is bad. Asking for Parama Purusa Himself is good.

In Him,
Ananda Tandava

~ In-depth study ~

Prayer is a loaded word

Here is another angle to the issue. Prayer is a loaded term just like the term harijan. Those born in India know that the literal meaning of 'harijan' is a bhakta. But if you tell anyone that, "You are a great harijan", then they will feel insulted as the colloquial meaning for harijan is an untouchable, i.e. a member of the lowest caste. Whereas if you tell someone that, "You are a great bhakta", then they will be very pleased. Yet the literal meaning of the terms harijan and bhakta are the same. The problem is that the term harijan carries with it a social stigma or being lowly.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Similarly, in the English language, the term prayer comes with a big baggage of dogma. If you mention the word prayer to anyone raised in an area where the Semitic religions are dominant, then they will already have a preconceived notion about it. They will think according to their own local religious dogma. That usually means asking God for something mundane or some boon etc. And it also means bowing down to those religious priests etc.

So that is a major reason why not to use the term prayer. Because it is a loaded term that carries with it a big bundle or dogma, just as the term harijan is taboo, or a social stigma for most people in India. Indeed, the term prayer means something different to everyone and is often associated with the dogmatic religions where worshipers ask for their selfish desires to be fulfilled. Finally, asking Parama Purusa for parabhatki is not a form of prayer - it is bhakti.

The basic formula of AM philosophy is this: Asking for something from Parama Purusa is bad. Asking for Parama Purusa Himself is good.

AM philosophy: do not pray

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Prayer is the act of asking for a favour with earnestness. It also means a solemn petition addressed to the Supreme Being for certain benefits. One prays to God for something which one does not possess or thinks one does not possess. One asks God for these favours with the faith that He alone can bestow everything and by His mere wish all wants can be satisfied. By prayer or by begging one wants to awaken His wish so that one may be granted the things one lacks. Does not one’s attempt to rouse the wish of God to fulfil these needs, upon careful and rational thinking, appear to be a reminder to God to give one something of which God has kept one deprived? It would otherwise not be necessary to remind Him in prayer of that thing or to try to arouse His wish to give. For instance, if one is in need of money, one would, with the faith that God alone can give, pray to Him for the favour of giving one money. Does not this request show God’s fault in keeping one in want of money, when He alone can give it? God alone is blamed for it, and by praying to Him for money one is precisely pointing out to Him His partiality in not giving one the money one needed. Therefore, prayer or asking for favours from God is only pointing out to the Sole Giver His mistakes in the distribution of His favours. It only presumes lack of impartiality in Him, and that is why He is blamed for making some very rich and others very poor. Praying to God for favours is only to bring to His notice the charge of partiality levelled against Him. When prayer leads to such a conclusion, it is only ignorance to ask for favours.” (1)

The basic formula of AM philosophy is this: Asking for something from Parama Purusa is bad. Asking for Parama Purusa Himself is good.

Special power of animals

Ananda Marga ideology says, "A crow has a natural premonitive instinct regarding storms. An owl and to some extent a dog can sense beforehand the possible occurrence of an earthquake or some other unforeseen natural calamity of great magnitude. Such power of apprehending phenomenal vibrations exists not in ten or twenty but in innumerable species of birds.  Such a power is indeed of paramount necessity in their rigorous struggle for survival.  Such a power did exist, too, to some extent, among the prehistoric people.  But today, in this age of so-called civilization, human beings, having become extremely ease-loving, have lost that power through misuse and lack of necessity; just as their tails, their ability to move their ears and their capacity to hold things with their feet have disappeared.  Now the hairiness of their bodies and the strength of their teeth and nails are also becoming extinct. The greater the pre-occupation of creatures with the struggle for existence, the necessarily greater must be their power of premonition or prescience of impending danger, or else their existence will be effaced from the surface of the earth -- this is the law of nature." (1)

Note: People often think that animals are lowly and neglected beings but that is not true. As Baba points out above, animals are far more aware about naturally occurring phenomena than human beings. On this point animals are highly instinctual and are always surveying the scene. They can forecast and predict a wide array of storms and natural calamities - and save themselves from impending disasters.

In the above quote Baba indicates how humans also used to have such abilities, but now with the onset of modernity and a comfort-oriented lifestyle, humans have lost this skill. So now people are entirely dependent upon science to forecast the weather etc. But as developed as science is, scientists (meteorologists and seismologists) are still in the dark about earthquakes. They are unable to predict when and where an earthquake might occur; whereas various animals like dogs and owls have this unique innate gift.

That's why when earthquakes occur in various regions, it is reported how street dogs and other animals were behaving abnormally beforehand. They were restless, walking around whimpering, and running out of the buildings or caves. The dogs knew about the impending disaster that was about to strike. Often zoos also report how so many of the animals cry out several minutes before the first tremors of an earthquake are felt. So they run out of their shelters, buildings, or caves.

In contrast, modern scientists generally do not have any idea that an earthquake is about to occur. But dogs know. And those people who understood why the dogs and other animals were upset were able to help themselves and others also. At the same time, those dogs living with human dogs are losing that ability.

So in future, we should rely upon animals to guide us about when and where natural disasters will strike. While dogs can often detect impending earthquakes, crows can sense cyclones. Similarly there are numerous animals that are acutely aware about impending storms and natural disasters. And by that way they are able to save themselves.

Planet can support us all

Prout philosophy states, "Does a population problem actually exist? This issue should be considered in the perspective of two vital factors - the availability of food and the availability of space. Today human beings have enough resources to manage their food. Planet Earth is rich enough to feed a far greater number of people than the present population....[So] The tragedy is that there are enough resources to supply proper food to all human beings in the world, but the defect lies in the present approach of the existing socioeconomic systems." (1)

Population Growth

Prout philosophy states, "Is the population problem really a natural problem? The population problem should be considered in the context of two vital factors – the availability of food and the availability of space. Today human beings have sufficient means to manage their food. The earth is abundant enough in food resources to feed many times more than the present population. Due to lack of coordinated cooperation, collective effort, a proper ideology and sound planning, society has been fragmented into many belligerent groups and sub-groups, and rich and poor nations have been created. As a result of this fissiparous tendency, society is presently incapable of producing enough food to meet human requirements. The tragedy is that even though there are enough resources to supply nutritious food to all the human beings on the planet, due to the defective socio-economic systems, an efficient method of distribution has not been developed."

"Moreover, there is no shortage of living space on the planet if the existing space is properly utilized. Because the earth has been balkanized due to so many arbitrary social, economic and political restrictions and the pervasive influence of evil dogma, people are unable to tackle problems in a natural way. If there were maximum utilization and rational distribution of all natural resources, pressing socio-economic problems could be easily solved."

Prout philosophy states, "It is a law of nature that a mother is provided with sufficient breast milk to feed her newly born baby. In the same way nature has generously provided sufficient resources to meet the food and other essential requirements of all human beings. People need to utilize these natural resources in a proper way. Shortages of food or space cannot be blamed on nature. These problems are essentially the results of the mistakes made by human beings."

"It is a fact that the population of the world is rapidly increasing, and consequently many people have become frightened. In capitalist countries there are sufficient reasons for such fear. In these countries an increase in the population means a corresponding increase in the poverty of the people. But there is no reason for such fear in a collective economic system. In the event of shortages in food and accommodation people will collectively convert barren land into arable land, increase agricultural production by scientific methods and produce food by chemical processes using the potentiality of earth, water and air. And if this earth loses its productivity, then human beings will migrate to other planets and satellites and settle there."

Prout philosophy states, "If people living in capitalist countries voluntarily adopt birth control methods to avoid economic hardship, perhaps we should not criticize them. But it should be mentioned here that using birth control methods which deform the bodies of men and women or destroy their reproductive powers forever cannot be supported, because this may cause a violent mental reaction at any moment." Before the Himalayas

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “In the distant past, some areas of India did not exist: There was neither northern India, nor D’aba’k nor Samatat’ areas of Bengal, but there was Old Gondwana. That was about 300 million years ago. At that time, the major parts of Sind, the Punjab, U.P., Bihar and Bengal did not exist. They were all submerged under the vast oceans. The Himalayas also did not exist. But the Vindhya mountain range and its sister ranges, Sa’tpura’, Sahya’dri, Rajmahal and Ra’mga’r’h did exist. These mountains were very high, and always snow-covered.” (1)
