Seeing Him: special tips + 4 more

Baba
Seeing Him: special tips

Namaskar,

It is the duty of every sincere margii to do Guru sakash upon waking. In the practice of Guru Sakash, it is explained that one should see Guru in varabhaya mudra. And for that, the pratikrti [photo] has been given.

Those who remain 24 hours in manan, shravan, nidhidhyasana, pranayama, mantra japa etc, then, for them, visualization is very easy and blissful. But for others it is not easy. This following process is for those who in the deep core of their heart want to visualize Him with sincerity and bhakti.

This below section is not for all. This is for those who feel that Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji is Sadguru, the Supreme Entity, Parama Purusa. This below guideline is useless for those who do not have this type of feeling.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Process to enhance Guru sakash & related lessons

1. One should place Baba's (varabhaya mudra) photo before them.

2. Then they should keep their eyes open, gaze at the photo intently, and mentally extend their hand (not physical hand) and hold His feet mentally, and start serving Him mentally. Mentally, they should go on repeating His name “Baba’ (all the while keeping their eyes open and gazing at His feet or photo with open eyes.) Ask His grace - beseeching Him mentally. And do only those things which feel very natural. During this point #2, the eyes are open the entire time.

3. Then they may close their eyes and try to do all of point #2 in the mind, i.e. with the eyes closed.

4. If point #3 does not work they should go back to point #2.

5. Repeat the process (i.e. points #2 and #3) again & again.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Early in the morning one should meditate on the Guru in Vara'bhaya Mudra … and address Him with your most loving and affectionate epithet..." (1)

So the idea is to sweetly call Him using your most loving and affectionate epithet, and that is the term ‘Baba’. Verily, as sadhakas and bhaktas, we affectionately address Him as ‘Baba’. That is why all Ananda Margiis emphatically raise the slogan: “Parama Pita Baba Kii - Jai!!”

Baba is ever-gracious; certainly, you will feel His grace.

Instructions for Guru sakash

Here below is that special section of the discourse where Baba speaks specifically about Guru Sakash and how to ideate upon Him.

Pra'tah shirasi shuukle'abje dvinetram' dvibhujam' gurum'...

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Early in the morning one should meditate on the Guru in Vara'bhaya Mudra with two hands and two eyes seated on a white lotus in Guru cakra, and address Him with your most loving and affectionate epithet..." (2)

Note: The photo should be medium size, i.e. 10” X 12”  at least or larger - not just a small postcard version. The larger the photo the greater the clarity.

Your dance

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Esecho tumi esecho, bhuvan bhariyá esecho, yugántarer gláni sariye diye,
áloker dhárá enecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3289)

Purport:

MyParama Purusa, Baba, You have come and have filled the entire world with bhakti. After removing ages and ages worth of agonies, You brought the flow of divine refulgence.

Baba, no one will remain in the dark any longer. You are the embodiment of these avenues: karma, knowledge, dhyana, and bhakti. You are the ocean of love, immeasurable, and infinite - ever ensconced in the fountain of love and affection.

Baba, Parama Purusa, the creation, preservation, and withdrawal is held within You. Guńátiita, the three gunas - sattva, rajah, tamah - are within You; Kálátiita, You go on performing Your cosmic liila with the time-factor. You dance according to the rhythm of Your divine liila’...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #3289:

[#1] Gun'a'tiita: One of the infinite characteristics of Parama Purusa is that He is beyond the gun'as, beyond all the binding principles like sa'ttvagun'a, rajogun'a, and tamogun'a.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Why is He beyond the scope of all attributions [binding principles]? There are two reasons. One is that He is the creator of everything, so He is the creator of qualifications also, attributions also. So how can He be within the binding scope of those principles, of those qualifications? And certainly He is beyond the reach of these qualifications. In Sam'skrta, qualification or attribution is called “gun'a”, and He is called “Gun'a'tiita”, that is, beyond the bondage of any gun'a." (1)

[#2] Kalatiita: Time is the psychic measurement of motivity of action. The entity who is beyond time is Kalatiita; time is not eternal - time is limited. Only Parama Purusa is infinite. Parama Purusa precedes time factor - He was present before there was time. Or we can say that before creation there was no time but there was Parama Purusa. That is why He is beyond time, i.e. Kalatiita.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Time is the mental measurement of the motivity of action. Where there is no action or where there is no mind to measure, there cannot be any time either. If there were no earth, or if the earth had not revolved around the sun, or if there were no developed living beings to measure the movement of the earth around the sun, then there would have been no days, months or years. We could not have measured them, and thus there would have been no time either. Hence the existence of time depends on two factors: the motivity of action and the instrument to measure this motivity of action...what we call Eternity is a collection of numerous fragments of time." (2)

[#3] What is time

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Time is not an eternal factor. Because what is time? It is mental reckoning of the motivity of action. This mental reckoning of the motivity of action [means that] where there is no action, there cannot be any time. The earth moves around the sun; that is how we get the solar year, the solar month, the solar day. The moon moves round the earth; that is how we get the lunar month, the lunar year, the lunar [day]. And the solar year or lunar year, the solar day or lunar day, are mental reckonings of their movements. Wherever there is no action, the possibility of measurement does not arise. And where there is action but no personal entity, no personal factor to measure the motivity, there cannot be any time. So the time factor is a relative factor; there cannot be eternal time. Time cannot be the absolute factor." (3)

Path of AM

Ananda Marga Shabda Cayanika states, “The common people, let alone the master artists, know that sound is not emitted if the strings are loosened too much and the soft and delicate strings snap if they are tightened too much. Human life is also like this. If one practises too much austerity (in some cases, if one makes a parade of austerity), tender human sensitivities snap and break into smithereens’ the soft, delicate parts of the mind get charred and petrified. On the other hand, if life is made akin to a loose string, the nobler yearnings of life will never be fulfilled. In other words, that kind of life degenerates into the life of an animal characterized only by bathing, eating and sleeping. Hence one must never allow the string of life to be loose. But also the string of life should not be left to snap due to excessive strain. The ideal course of life is neither left-oriented nor right-oriented. This kind of life will be conspicuous by the absence of strife, mayhem or horror of the leftists and of toleration of injustices by the rightists in their loose, careless and sloppy life. It is this ideal course that will usher in a life worth yearning for a super-human existence, divinely exquisite and shining brightly on the banner of gold.” (1)

Note: In the above quote Baba is explaining how Ananda Marga is the middle path. The rule of Ananda Marga is neither the lazy way of praying to nature or idol worship like the loose path, nor is it the path of extreme penance like standing on one leg for 20 years or sitting on a burning fire like avidya tantrikas. Ananda Marga is the ideal path. We follow 16 Points very strictly.

One should know that Ananda Marga is the middle path. Strictly following 16 points is the middle path. In His above teaching, Baba is referring to (a) avidya tantrikas who are very extreme in their penance and (b) idol worshippers. The middle point is Ananda Marga. Sadhakas should be very strict in 16 points. That is what is being taught in the above guideline.

How to elevate needy communities

Prout philosophy states, “In capitalism or democracy the state is theoretically for the welfare of the majority, but in practice it is the rule of the minority of vaeshyas. Other groups of people are forced to become second grade citizens.”

“The Proutistic social order follows the principle sarva jana hitáya – that is, PROUT is for the welfare of all. Nobody is suppressed or oppressed. PROUT supports the rule of sadvipras. Only sadvipras can guarantee the all-round welfare of all groups of people because sadvipras represent the interests of all classes in society.”

“Until PROUT is established, however, special efforts should be made to protect the interests of backward classes. For example, tribal people are among the most deprived of the backward classes. In Tripura and many parts of India, and in other countries of the world as well, tribal people are poor and illiterate. Special steps should be taken immediately to enhance their socio-economic development. Such steps should include the removal of all educational inequalities; the widespread establishment of cottage industries; proper agricultural facilities, especially irrigation water; self-reliance in energy production, such as electricity; increased communication facilities, such as telephones; and better transportation infrastructure, such as railways.” (1)

History: before there was sadhana + 3 more

Baba

History: before there was sadhana

Namaskar,

Sadhana is a general term. This term sadhana means “practice”. The word is used in a multitude of ways: for the practice of samgiita i.e. samgiita sadhana, the practice of art i.e. kalá sadhana, the practice of knowledge i.e. jiṋána sadhana, and the practice of dharma i.e. dharma sadhana. As it covers the wide gamut of ‘practice’, this word sadhana can be associated with any activity. In Ananda Marga, sadhana has a specific meaning and that is spiritual practice.

Lightning & storms became gods

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “When humans were at the physical level, that is when they were just like animals, nature was everything for them. They were happy to see the sunrise, since the night was full of danger because wild animals would attack them. They preferred the day. So people started worshiping Úśá, the dawn, since with the emergence of Úśá they felt that they were safe at least for the day. Thus they became nature worshipers. In whatever little scriptures you find from this period you see that people were nature worshippers. Although human beings worshipped nature, they did not have the intellect to ask where nature came from. They didn’t have the capacity to think about it. Vajra became a god, lightning became a god, the storm became a god – everything became a god for human beings, Because the intellect was undeveloped, people surrendered before everything. Since they were unable to establish themselves in struggle they surrendered before nature.” (1)

Prehistoric humans & their pu’ja’

The Rgveda is 15,000 years old. During those ancient times, people were mostly involved in prárthaná i.e. prayer to nature, or nature worship. People were praying to Indra, Varuna, and other gods/goddesses to alleviate their sufferings during droughts, scarcity of food, and other necessities. As an example, there was no electricity. Safety at night was a struggle to stay away from animals while living in the jungles, caves etc. It was only during the day when people used to feel safe as there was sunlight, and humans could find ways to protect themselves from animals. In the night, even living on trees was difficult as some animals attack only on trees.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

This type of situation is unimaginable in today’s world, but certainly in the prehistoric era all those years ago, those were tough times. Hence, as darkness would fall, people would pray to nature, “Please keep us safe”, and in the morning they would pray and express thanks that they survived the night. So whenever there were difficulties they would pray because they felt that these unexpected events were happening—flood, drought, earthquake etc.—because nature was not happy. People would offer various goods (such as ghee, rice, grains, milk, honey, fruits, etc.) to Parama’tma’ to keep Him happy so that such types of obstacles would not arise. This is reasonable as we see people offer their goods to others whom they honour and respect.

How yajina started

People used to see the majesty of creation in the rain and the sun etc. Parama’tma’ is not visible to anyone, but they were enamoured with valuable things they noted coming from the sky such as rain and sunlight, and were equally terrified of fierce and scary things such as thunder and lightning. Rain falls from the water god Varun; if there is no rain then there will not be any water in the rivers, and life would be difficult. So to make Varun the water god happy, they would burn ghee, grains, or other edibles which would go to the sky, and Varun the water god would be happy. They thought this was the sole way to make the water god Varun happy. Accordingly, they started yajina, also known as havan. People made gods and goddesses of the rivers, mountains, and oceans which they thought had influence in their lives. Prior to about 8,000 years ago people were involved in prayers to nature, such as to lightning, then considered a god, and to the rain storm, then also considered a god.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion: the start of sadhana

The Vedas were first delivered around 15,000 years ago and they essentially consisted of prayers. In those ancient times, there was no concept of spiritual sadhana.

As Baba says, the Vedas are based on knowledge (jiṋána), and sadhana is not described in the Vedas. Lord Shiva was the first to provide sadhana to society. Prior to the time of Shiva, religious practice was limited to ritual. Rsis were involved in describing the dos and don’ts so as to convey to people how to lead a spiritual life. They provided these guidelines by describing their thoughts in shlokas. But there was no sadhana. Lord Shiva was the first to provide guidance in sadhana to society.

In Him,
Nirakar

He graciously sings

“Dúr niilimáy hát cháni dey, sudurer kon bandhu ámáy…” (Prabhat Samgiita #0319)

Purport:

Which Bandhu is that Who calls from such a remote, heavenly place and beckons me from the distant blueness - satya loka. He is lovingly calling me, “Why are you keeping yourself so far away from Me. Draw yourself near Me. O’ bhakta, I have been awaiting you. So I request you to come - come into My courtyard, My dwelling.”

He (my Bandhu) says, “For you, I have threaded and decorated a garland of stars - in numerous colours and forms, with so many divine plays. O’ bhakta, arise, awake and open your eyes. Just take a look around your closed room of materialism and dogma; unfortunately, you are surrounded by so much misery and suffering. That is why I call you again and again, come unto Me - and bathe yourself in Cosmic bliss.”

Parama Purusa, my Bandhu, always gives the call of a new era; He only sings songs that are eternally new, brimming in spiritual ideation. Those tunes are filled with such hope and love. I listen attentively to my Bandhu; He graciously sings the song in so many beautiful melodies for me. Hearing His voice, my heart and mind become suffused in His supreme love…

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #0319

[1] Bandhu: Here below are some of Guru’s teachings on the term bandhu.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “What is the meaning of “bandhu”? In Saḿskrta, the meaning of the word “bandhu” is “to bind”. Bandhu indicates that person or entity who cannot stand separation. Parama Puruśa or Saguńa Brahma is closely and intimately connected with this expressed world, or jagata. He is pervasively connected with every individual entity, be it a living being or a crude object. He is also linked through and through with the universe as a whole. In other words, He is indissolubly and inextricably involved (ota prota) with everything. Therefore, He is the only bandhu of this universe. The rest of your bandhus in the physical world are not your eternal friends. Though they are with you now, a day will soon come when they will go away; they will be separated from you. When you depart from this world, these friends will accompany or carry your dead body. But how far will they accompany you? They will accompany your body up to the cremation ground or the burning ghat. Having gone so far, at the most they will return to their own dwelling places. So they are not your real bandhu. There is a shloka in Saḿskrta:” (1)

Atyágasahano bandhu sadaevánumatah suhrd;
Eka kryaḿ bhavenmitraḿ samapráńáh sakhásmrtah.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “He who loves [[so much that]] he can never sustain the grief of separation, is known as “bandhu”. In this sense, nobody can have any bandhu in this world. Only that Jagatabandhu – that Parama Puruśa – can be your bandhu. No one else is your bandhu. Only He is your real friend.” (1)

== Section 3: Important Teaching ==

Making a relationship with Him

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Kevalá bhakti: When one is identified with the goal there remains only one entity. This is called kevalá bhakti. This category of devotion is not attainable by one’s individual effort. One can attain it by the grace of great personalities or Parama Puruśa. This is the highest stage of devotion. In this devotion the sádhaka remains oblivious of the differences and distinctions. This is called mahimna jiṋána. As long as the sense of differentiation will exist, the sádhaka will hesitate to be one with Brahma.” (1)

Note: There are various types and grades of bhakti. In the lowest category of bhakti, the bhakta thinks that, “God is great, and I am lowly.” But when one’s prema towards God increases, then the feelings of one’s own lowliness and God’s greatness slowly, slowly reduces, and in the end fades away and both come on equal footing.

Consider this mundane example. Suppose one lady is the governor and has a high status and prestige, but that high status is meaningless to her child. The child just thinks that, “This is my mother.” The child does not think that, “I am a small infant and illiterate, and she is qualified so then how can I go close.”  These types of barriers are meaningless for the child. Due to affection, the child thinks its status and the mother’s status are the same. Both are on common ground. That is why the child goes and sits on mother’s lap. The child does not think that, “I am inferior.” This is due to the child’s extreme affection for its mother.

Same is the case with the bhakta. Due to intense prema and bhakti, the sadhaka thinks, “There is no difference between me and Parama Purusa. Neither He is high nor am I low. He is my very intimate.”

Conclusion

In a lower stage of bhakti, people think that, “Between me and Parama Purusa there is a vast gap and greatness. I am lowly and He is the grand controller of the universe. So how can I go close to Him.” But when bhakti grows then that gap reduces and they come on equal footing. The sadhaka thinks that. “He is my Dearest.” The bhakta does not think of the infinite attributions of Parama Purusa. Rather the sadhaka’s mind is focused on intimacy. That is keval bhakti. Without this feeling, nobody can merge in Parama Purusa.

Health benefits of sunlight & air

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Sunlight and air: There are many healing elements in sunlight. The rays or pencils of rays of different colours in sunlight are medicines for different kinds of diseases – preventive and antidotal. Sunlight has different benefits during different hours of the day. Sun-warmed water also has different kinds of benefits. Thus sunlight has been regarded since ancient times as medicines for different bodily ailments. It is also said in the Vedas: súryah yathá sarvalokasya cakśuh [as the sun is the eye of the entire universe]. The medicine, that is, sunlight should be taken in through the dorsal spine, not through the chest or the abdomen."
"The pure air of a secluded place is also an excellent medicine for the physical body. This medicine in the form of air should be taken through the back of the head and the upper part of the forehead. The earth from a riverside area near a forest in which there is a small amount of sand and a large amount of soil is also an excellent medicine for the physical body. This medicine should be taken bare-bodied on a bed of earth." (1)

Sadhana demonstration: the nadiis + 2 more

Baba
Sadhana demonstration: the nadiis

Namaskar,

Here is a story about one general darshan with our dearmost Sadguru Baba in Jamalpur. Some sadhakas may recall that in those days of 1965 Revered Baba was very particular in guiding us in spiritual life. He was quite strict with all sadhakas about following a proper sadhana routine and doing all the lessons etc.

Of course, in various ways and forms, this was true all the way up to 1990. But, at that time in 1965, it seemed that Baba was being especially gracious and personally giving so many special techniques and beautiful explanations for improving everyone's meditation.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

That special General Darshan

Looking back, we can only say that this was His causeless grace. On this particular occasion that I am about to recount, Baba was in a most gracious and charming mood when He came for General Darshan. Upon entering, He was smiling so sweetly, and we all felt a special vibration in the air.

Baba was moving very slowly and delicately. And, when He gently sat down on His cot, then He began, little by little, emphasizing the deep importance and great significance of sadhana. This was the norm those days. And in His own beautiful cadence and rhythm, He began addressing many complementary points
for meditation such as proper food, right atmosphere, good company (satsaunga), physical exercise (asanas) etc-- all of which aid one in the practice of sadhana.

Included in this discussion also was Baba's special teaching about breathing and the correct use and utility of the nostrils. And He descriptively told us how long, long ago the great yogii Sadashiva was the first to give this special science of breath control known as svarshastra.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba tells inner secrets about nadiis

Then Baba began to unveil some of the inner secrets regarding the three na'diis-- the ida', piungala', and the susumna. Baba was specifically guiding us that:

(1) When the piungala' na'dii is expanded then the right nostril is dominant. Baba told us that this state is conducive for doing physical activities such as running, jumping, eating etc.

(2) When the ida' na'dii is expanded then the left nostril is more active. Baba explained that this is more conducive for engaging in psychic work, intellectual studies, and psycho-spiritual pursuits. Then Baba went on to describe that one na'dii may be more or less dominant to varying degrees. For example, sometimes the ida' na'dii might be 70% dominant and the piungala' na'dii is doing 30% of the breathing. Or the ratio could be 90%-10%, or 60%-40%, or any combination thereof. And sometimes one na'dii may be controlling 100% of the breathing.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

(3) Then Baba paused, and He told that there is a somewhat rare situation when both the na'diis-- both the nostrils-- are working equally: 50-50. This occurs when the susumna channel or centre pipe is expanded fully and it is applying equal pressure on the other two na'diis.

Baba then told us that in that unique situation, when the susumna na'dii or the susumna channel is nicely expanded such that both the nostrils are working equally, then that is an ideal time to do sadhana. He told us that in this circumstance the mind easily gets concentrated. Thereafer, Baba lovingly directed us that we should always be ready to utilise that time for sadhana. Next, in that very room, one very special event came to pass, which I will never forget.

Baba’s demonstration that day

On that divine occasion, there were eleven of us sitting at His lotus feet immersed in His darshan. With His infinite compassion, Baba sweetly guided us all to check our nostrils and see which na'dii was dominating. Everyone present acknowledged that both their nostrils were equally open-- thus signifying that the susumna na'dii was expanded fully.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Everyone present understood that this was nothing but Baba's divine grace and then, upon His grand direction, we all started doing sadhana. And, almost instantaneously, we could feel a very strong vibration as the kulakundalini began to rise up through the various cakras until finally, by His magnificent grace, we all become ensconced in His divine flow and heard that omnkara dhvani– the sound of realization. We were all completely swept up in the vast ocean of His cosmic bliss and tears of joy were streaming down from everyone's eyes.

After some time, Baba brought our minds back to the here and now, and our awareness returned to being in that small room with Baba before us. In that moment, we could all sense how the sweet smell of the lotus flower was permeating all around and a blissful vibration was dancing through each and every cell of our existence. It was truly a memorable experience.

Of all the different occasions that I was blessed to have Baba's direct darshan, I shall always hold and cherish the above experience as being quite dear. I will always feel that, on that particular occasion, Baba truly showered His causeless grace on us and allowed us to experience that real internal communion with Him.

Conclusion

Perhaps now more than ever, this opportunity is open to us all as sadhana is the means for communicating with Him and realising our true nature. So, in this short human life of ours, we should be most careful to utilise the best moments-- the most opportune moments-- for doing His sadhana.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here is Baba's blessing upon all sadhakas:

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "One who has followed the straight path of the sus'umna' canal upwards does not return. He becomes one with Parama Purus'a, losing his separate existence." (1)

Thus, when the susumna canal is active, i.e. when both nostrils are open, then we should all be vigilant to use that time for sadhana, by His grace.

Namaskar,
Ram Sahay

More facts about na'diis

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Among the three principal nad'iis [psychic-energy channels], the sus'umna' is straight while the two on either side of it, the id'a' and the piungala', curve right and left." (2)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "In the yogic treatises the left na'd'ii is called id'a', the right na'd'ii is called piungala', and the one between them is called sus'umna'. The id'a' is also called candra na'd'ii [moon channnel], the piungala' su'rya na'd'ii [sun channel] and the sus'umna' a'ka'sha ma'rga [sky channel]." (3)

The science of svarshastra

Ananda Marga philosophy explains, "The process of breathing, depending upon whether the breath is flowing through the right nostril or the left nostril or both nostrils, influences people in various ways. It was Shiva who determined what kind of activity should be performed, depending on which nostril the breath was flowing through, and depending on whether the id'a' or piungala' or sus'umna' channel was active. He set down specific rules and regulations as to when one should undertake physical, psychic or spiritual activities. He further instructed when and in what circumstances one should do a'sanas, pra'n'a'ya'ma, dha'ran'a', dhya'na, etc. This science, which Shiva invented and developed, was known as svara sha'stra or svarodaya [science of breath control]." (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The process of breathing has a great influence on the human mind and self, or soul." (5)

Plagiary?

It is the accepted international standard and Baba's system not to copy another's work and publish it in your own way. Baba has given a very strict rule on plagiarism. Why is Baba against plagiarism or stealing someone's work? There are many reasons:

1) It is against the code of asteya (non-stealing).

2) Countless stories of bhaktas need to be published. But some do not want to do the hard work of compiling and writing these stories, so they just steal them from others. But new stories need to be told, otherwise so many unpublished stories of sadhakas will be lost and forgotten forever. So watch out for story thieves, and kindly help them not to steal by posting on social media in their own way. If you want to forward this story then attach the following yellow section with the story:

“Courtesy of unknown bhakta via Ananda Marga Universal (https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/)”

This will be treated as the standard protocol.
