Sadhaka life + 3 more

Baba
Sadhaka life

Namaskar,

In our Ananda Marga philosophy, Baba makes a stark differentiation between animals and humans: Animals are guided by 4 basic instincts (food, sex, sleep, and fear), whereas humans are mind-oriented beings who use logic and reasoning in determining how to act. Keeping this in mind, we should consider the following related with modern day living.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

#1: Materialism & animality

In so many ways materialism promotes the call of vice. Essentially, that is all materialism does: It goads one toward animality. At present we are living in the age where many or even most in human form are living life as a beast. It is quite common. Because anyone whose actions lack rationality and are instead guided by primal instincts are indeed brutes.

There are so many of shudra mentality who have no ideal in life and just sleep and eat to pass the days. Indeed anyone and everyone who is only driven by their motor and sensory organs are just pashus (animals). To live human life means to be guided by our rational minds and have our 10 indriyas (motor and sensory organs) in check.

As Ananda Margiis, we need to be extremely careful because we are surrounded by the ills of materialism. It is seeping everywhere. Have we not all seen people disappear from the path of Ananda Marga. One of the main reasons is that they fall prey to lower propensities. Then there are a few who are Ananda Margis by name only; by their actions it is evident they are living life close to that of a beast.

Here is a self-quiz: Am I skipping sadhana? Not doing kiirtan? Falling prey to worldly desires? How active am I in leading a moral and spiritual life? These are questions one must consider in order in this present era.

#2: Sensual pleasures - previous life tastes

One reason why following human dharma is difficult is that it is not a known pathway for us. It can be uncomfortable or a struggle at first. The mind wanders in sadhana; we feel too lazy to do asanas, and are tempted by lower desires like the four basic propensities, the sadripus (six enemies), and the astapashas (eight fetters).

In contrast, moving towards the path of animality is quite easy. Because we have all come from animal life, those types of behaviour are well known to us.

Ananda Marga says, "The empirical knowledge of previous animal life that leads human beings to material enjoyments." (1)

We are well acquainted with those baser propensities after having passed countless lives on the path of saincara (i.e. the first half of the cycle of brahmacakra), it is very easy to fall into those old habits and vices as a way of life. Sensual lust, desire for food, sleeping extra hours, being dominated by fear. It does not take any talent, courage, or mental stamina to live a life based on beastial instincts.

We always have to see our conduct - our behaviour in day-to-day life and ensure that we are not falling prey to past beastly desires. If so, we should check those tendencies immediately by singing kiirtan and asking Baba for help.

Abundance of brutes in human form

Those beings in human form who live a life based on sensual pleasure - not rationality - are mere brutes in human structure. Thus who is a human being and who is an animal is not based on body type alone. Having a human face is not the defining point. Those in human form - goaded mostly by the 4 basic propensities - are also beasts.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "You know, there are brutes in human structure, and there are brutes in animal structure." (2)

Whereas, those in human form who are goaded by mind and living a life based on ideology are real human beings. We all should be vigilant. Each and every moment in life must be a time for us to quickly reflect whether we are being guided by animalistic desires or following our human dharma. This type of honesty and awareness is needed to keep moving on the proper path, otherwise we will run into trouble. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of examples in our Marga where people have fallen from sadhana and into the mire of worldly lust.

One may be reborn as a beast

The degree to which we are guided by ideology is the degree to which we are human and moving towards the divine. And the degree to which we are chasing after crude desires is the degree to which we are dominated by animalistic tendencies and moving towards utter degradation.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The mind of a person following animal dharma will become degraded – and that person, after death, will be reborn as an animal." (3)

That is the way the Cosmic Operative Principle functions. Those living beastial life will be reborn as such. We should not fall prey to this horrible outcome.

Ideal: Life based on ideology

We are living in a difficult period and living as a brute while in human form is quite common. Because of materialism and the inherent nature of our past lives, falling prey to animal vrttis is very easy. Ours though is human life. Ours is the path of ideology. That is the way we are to proceed.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Human life, unlike animal life, is an ideological flow. Where there is no ideological flow, in that case, even if the physical structure is just like a man, he is not a man, but is an animal." (4)

We should be vigilant to live life according to yama and niyama, our days must be filled with the practices of 16 Points, and the mind should be colored in His color. We are to fill each and every second of life with the high ideal of AM. Failing that, one will just be bound to animal life.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The main difference between an animal and a man is that animal life is to eat, drink, sleep, and die. There is no goal, no ideological destiny. But in the case of human beings, they have got the ideological desideratum, they have got the goal of life." (5)

Adhering to His tenets and keeping Baba as the polestar will ensure that we are living up to our human ideal.

Conclusion

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Human life is rare and is very precious.” Even the devata's if they want to do something good or great, will have to come in human frame to work." (6)

We have been blessed with human life, we should use it in the proper way and move towards Him, never falling prey to animalistic propensities.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Parama Purus'a is the ultimate goal of existence, and only to attain Him have human beings come onto this earth." (7)

"Baba is watching me"

One of the best ways to keep on the proper path is to think that "Baba is watching me." If we think this before each and every action, then invariably we will make the right choice in life.

With His blessing and loving guidance we will live not just a life of a human, but life divine.

Ananda Vanii says, "...You are the spiritual soldiers, you are the worshippers of Life Divine, hence I call upon you to adorn this crimson dawn deluged with glorious light..." (8)

That is why Baba warns us to always evaluate our direction in life, lest we risk being reborn as brutes, or worse. It all depends on our quality of mind and our actions in this life.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "A human being in this life may well be reborn as an animal, plant or even a rock in the next life." (9)

Food...dating...material wants...sensual allurements...fear of the future...sleeping...intoxication...fear of losing money...immediate satisfaction...prostitution...infatuation...In so many ways materialism promotes the call of vice. Those living a life in this manner will certainly be reborn as such in their next life.

Certainly though there are a few in our Ananda Marga Pracarka Samgha who are bravely marching forward according to the tenets of Sixteen Points and neo-humanism.

Softly and secretly come

"Ke go tumi áji bhare nile sáji,ná boliyá mor phúl vane..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2111)

Purport:

My Charming Entity, who are You who has softly and secretly come today in the flower garden of my mind, and filled a basket of my blossoms. Alas, because I was unaware, I could not invite You to come inside; nor did I made any arrangements for Your reception, or prepare a seat for You. I could not receive You with due reverence in the canopy of my mental abode. I am very much ashamed of myself.

Supreme One, Your grace is unimaginable. When I call You, You do not come. But now without any invitation You have blessed me and come. It is Your infinite kindness. You silently entered the inner garden of my mind. After looking around, without saying a word, You just smiled and started plucking the flowers. Your liila is unique and unfathomable.

Parama Purusa, what a divine drama You make. I do not understand. Why do You go on playing with my mind. You have captivated my heart. Stealthily, in my subtle realm, without my knowledge, You rejuvenate and sway my entire existence with the spiritual vibration of Your overflowing supreme love and fill my being with unending bhakti.

My most Charming Entity, who are You who has showered Your blessing in my Guru cakra…

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #2111:

One of the names of the Lord is Makhan Cor. In that role, Parama Purusa graces the bhakta by coming close and taking away their most precious possession, i.e. the mind. Bhaktas always want to offer the best things that they have to Parama Purusa; and in His role as Makhan Cor He graciously accepts those offers. So in the above song, the mental flower is the best thing that the bhakta has, and Parama Purusa is taking away those flowers. The common psychology is that when there is close intimacy between two people, then they like to offer the best thing that they have. Between the bhakta and Parama Purusa, the best thing one can offer to Him is a purified mind. In the song, that purified mind is represented by the flowers, so this song is not to be taken literally. Parama Purusa is not stealing flowers rather He is gracing the bhakta by accepting their offering of mind. In sadhana, many sadhakas have had this experience and realisation.

Parama Purusa is Butter Thief

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Usually the human mind has different weaknesses and frailties. But as people continue to refine their intellect and perfect their spiritual practices, their minds move upwards through the different kośas (layers): kamamaya, manomaya, atimanasa, vijiṋánamaya and hiranyamaya, resulting in the crude portion of the mind becoming increasingly subtle. Take the case of cream: when churned, its essence (butter) is separated from the non-essential part (whey)...That is why Hari is nicknamed “makhan cor” – the butter thief. It is wrong to take these words literally. Take it for granted that Krśńa never stole the cream or butter from the milkmaids houses." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Whatever you think or do in your mind is also internal for Him. He enters your internal world, your mind and you dont know that He has entered i.e., He will steal away your mind and you will not know. A person too wants that Paramátmá should steal away his mind. Therefore I remember to have told you that one of His names is Mákhanacora (Butter thief). Generally one says to God to come to him but actually God is already with him – He is simply unable to see Him...He will steal away the Átman of a person and his mind will not know it, Therefore, He is named Mákhanacora. As the cream is the essence of milk so is the Átman of the body. He steals away the Átman, so He is Mákhanacora." (2)

Why Baba’s name is not on the ERAWS Guidebook

In that pre-1990 era, Baba was doing absolutely everything and all the teachings and printed guidebooks were coming directly from Him. That said, Baba did not allow His name to appear on the cover of every guidebook or procedural order etc. Yet, Baba was the sole Director who dictated those rules and orders. It is just His liila or working style why He did it this way.

Verily, there are numerous organisational rules, orders, and guidelines that were given where His name is not listed, yet Baba was the sole Director who dictated those rules and orders. Specifically, all those (a) guidebooks, (b) manuals, and (c) acarya, avadhuta, and vishesa yoga diaries, as well as other directives that deal exclusively with the running of AMPS do not contain His name on the cover. For instance, Baba’s name does not appear on any Procedural Order, nor on the ERAWS Guidebook (1981), nor on any of the Acarya Diaries, nor on any of the lists of conduct rules etc. Yet, Baba was the sole Director of all those materials; He is the one who dictated those rules and orders. It is just His liila or working style why He did it this way.

In contrast, Baba’s name has been printed on the cover of all Ananda Marga books traversing the entire gamut of His social and spiritual teachings. That includes the Subhasita Samgraha series, the Prout in a Nutshell series, Idea and Ideology, and Ananda Sutram etc. All those publications that presented teachings for the greater humanity have His name on the cover. Whereas, it is just His liila or working style why those (a) guidebooks, (b) manuals, and (c) acarya, avadhuta, and vishesa yoga diaries were done differently, i.e. without His name.

So this was the tradition. Those teachings that were for humanity-at-large were published in Baba’s name. But He did not allow His name to appear on all those in-house orders related with organisational directives were dictated by Him. It is just His liila or working style why it was done this way.
