Sadhana first + 4 more

Baba
Sadhana first
 Namaskar,

Ananda Marga ideology states,  “What should be the spirit of the unit? Átmamokśárthaḿ jagat hitáya ca. “One will meditate on the Supreme to become one with the Supreme, and at the same time, to purify one’s mind, one is to render selfless service to human society.” Without rendering selfless service to society, one cannot come in close proximity to the Supreme. And without practising meditation, one cannot render selfless service to the society. So one should remember that one’s motto in life is Átmamokśárthaḿ jagat hitáya ca.” (1)

Human beings have infinite desires. So one’s longing can only be truly satisfied by attaining that Infinite Entity, Parama Purusa. Mundane gains like power, post, or chair cannot satiate one’s unlimited hunger. Human life in the true spirit of the term is very rare. Without proper preparation, if anyone indulges in politics then they lose the desideratum. Unfortunately due to a lack of spiritual motivation usually people start doing negative things.

Without sadhana: fake Proutist

Sadguru Baba began teaching Ananda Marga sadhana in 1939 and ultimately formed and registered the organisation (AMPS) in 1955. In those early days there was only an emphasis on practicing sadhana and teaching sadhana. It took some years to create the necessary base for doing Prout work. Verily, it was not until 1959 that Baba first introduced His Prout theory. So a base of spirituality was needed in order to properly serve.

For instance, any rational margii can understand that if a person with superficial spiritual feeling engages in serving society, then things will go awry. Sometimes they end up misusing public monies, or exploiting those needing service. Indeed we have seen so many problems arise. Because when the mind is low, people think that, “For the sake of post, power, prestige I have to do something.” Then real problems start. Because the work is done for personal, selfish gain - not with the spirit of service.

In contrast, when one’s desideratum is Parama Purusa then the feeling naturally comes that, “I want to please Him by doing social service.” In that case, that social service is done with a great ideal in mind - to serve Parama Purusa. And this is only possible after proper sadhana. Those lacking in the spiritual sphere cannot do true service.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The spirit of serving comes from the spirit of serving the Supra-Conscious Entity, [Parama Purusa]. Where the spirit of serving the Supra-Mental Entity is lacking, there cannot be any service spirit in any emanation or any manifestation." (2)

How real change comes in life

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us, "The only way of achieving emancipation is through sadhana...The wise would therefore start sadhana as early as possible and attain emancipation quickly...It is hence imperative for everyone to achieve emancipation quickly by practising sadhana. Intuitional practice (sadhana) is the innate duty that everyone has to perform." (3)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Transformation in human psychology will come about through spiritual practices. So I advise each human being that as long as you are alive, you should try to build yourself in a nice way, in a complete way." (4)

So we should take advantage of this opportune time for sadhana, knowing that with a high ideal in mind we can best serve humanity.

Prout: all property belongs to Parama Purusa

One of the main tenets of Prout which Baba has expressed in numerous discourses is that all of the property of the universe belongs to Parama Purusa. There is no individual ownership by any jiiva. It all belongs to the Supreme Father.

Prout philosophy states, “The universe is the thought projection of Brahma [the Supreme Entity], so the ownership of the universe lies with the Supreme Entity, and not with His imagined beings. None of the movable or immovable property of this universe belongs to any particular individual; everything is the common patrimony of all, and the Father of all is Brahma. All living beings can enjoy their rightful share of this property.” (Problems of the Day, Point #1)

This notion that everything belongs to Parama Purusa is an absolute must in order to be a true Proutist. And such a feeling will not arise in the mind without sadhana. Only those with a spiritual link with Parama Purusa can feel in the heart that really He is the owner of everything. This stands then as another reason why atheists and non-sadhakas cannot be Prout leaders.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Without sadhana: Prout will remain dream

Here following Baba further guides us about the need to partake in proper psycho-spiritual training and tapah before engaging in social service endeavours.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Those who do not aim at self-realization cannot promote the welfare of the world either." (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "One should realize that to render selfless service, an absolutely pure mind is required with the expansiveness of the vast ocean and the serenity of the blue sky. Otherwise, while promoting the welfare of the world, one may develop a selfish desire in one's mind in a weak moment, as a result of which one may bring harm to oneself as well as to the universe. (6)

Conclusion

All in all, it is clear that to do social service, a spiritual personality is needed. That's why when Baba propounded the theory of Prout theory He gave the instruction that first one has to create sadhakas. Then gradually that sadhaka will develop a strong personality and become a sadvipra. By this way they will be able to properly lead the society. Failing that, if one does not make strides in the spiritual sphere, they will not be able guide others and serve.

Here is an English summary of Baba’s original Hindi teaching:

If there is no strength in the neck and if 200 lbs of weight is put on the head then the neck will be broken. If human beings are not trained properly and they do not have the necessary psycho-spiritual strength - due to not following dharma- - then their protest movement or march against exploitation or fight against corruption will be useless. First you have to create proper human beings. And then they will be able to carry the responsibility. Otherwise all your efforts and protest against corruption will be impotent and futile. (English Summary from Subhasita Samgraha - 16, Hindi Edn)

Ananda

Spiritual realisation is now faster than ever

Nowadays in this world when the material side has been developed, then general human beings have better facilities in comparison to the human beings of 10,000 years back. And this facility is not related only in mundane sphere. The present day humanity is blessed in various ways.

For instance, we have the cumulative benefit and teachings of three Mahasambhutis. Parama Purusa has taken advent three separate times in the forms of Lord Shiva, Lord Krsna, and Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji. And, especially now, with His divine teachings, present day human beings can achieve greater progress in spiritual life in a very short period. In the past yogis and rishis were doing very long penance their entire lives, sitting in caves of the Himalayas. But now realisation can be attained in a few decades. Baba has made it very easy. So we are indeed blessed.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Today human beings are progressing in the realm of intellectuality. To attain the culminating point of spirituality the human beings of today have to face less obstacles than the people of the past such as Mahars'i Vishvamitra, Mahars'i Agastya, etc. The development of the glands and the amount of the hormone secretions is much greater than 100,000 years ago." Song for non-margiis

PS Intro: This Prabhat Samgiita is for non-margii bhaktas who have bhakti for Lord Krsna. So we Ananda Margiis should learn these types of songs so that we can present and teach them to non-Ananda Marga sadhakas, i.e. bhaktas of Lord Krsna.

"A'ma'r ka'n'u kotha' gelo, kotha'y luka'l, khunjiya' hayechi sa'ra'..." (Prabhat Samgiita #4113)

For more about this topic kindly read: https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/2016/11/shiva-krsna-songs-not-for-margiis-3-more.html

Purport:

Where has my Lord Krsna gone. Where is He hiding? I have been looking for Him all day long. And now it is almost nightfall; from morning to evening I have been seeking Him. In His longing, my eyes are showering tears.

I am wandering around in desperation for Him. In this deep yearning, my eyes are raining tears. My beloved Lord Krsna is neither in Vrindaban, nor in Gokul, nor is He in Mathura. Where has He gone? From which astral world is He playing His flute and herding his cows.

What type of bond of bhakti has tied me up. My heart is aching. I am completely restless in His love. Where is my dear-most Lord Krsna. What kind of love is this. He has taken away my heart and mind. Yet in return He has given nothing.

What is this liila - in a flash I lost everything. I will not be deterred by any obstacles. I will continue looking high and low for Him non-stop. I will go on searching for my most loving Lord Krsna - my Life of life and Polestar...

Shiva and Krsna PS songs are not for Ananda Margiis

Note: This above Prabhat Samgiita composition is for non-margiis. So we Ananda Margiis should learn these types of songs so that we can present and teach them to non-margiis. The Ista of Ananda Margiis is neither Krsna nor Shiva. So committed and dedicated Ananda Margiis know that using these Krsna / Shiva Prabhat Samgiita compositions for their own personal, spiritual practices is very detrimental and harmful.

In multiple discourses, Ananda Marga philosophy guides us that Ista should be one not many, and that is what He is teaching in this following analogy about the mythological bhakta Hanuman. Ananda Marga philosophy conveys the story of the mythological bhakta Hanuman who would only worship Rama - not . When in problem, Hanuman could have repeated the names of so many other gods like Narayan, Krsna, Shiva, Vishnu etc, but he only repeated the name of Rama - not any other. In the same way, a sadhaka of Ananda Marga should only repeat and call the name of Sadguru Baba, not any other entity. That is what is meant by strictness in Ista, i.e. never waver in one's faith towards the Parama Purusa, Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji.

Regardless of whether one appeals to the Semitic faiths, prays to nature, or any other kind of worship, if one surrenders to any other conception of the Divine - other than Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji - then one is lacking on the point of Ista. Keeping photos of other so-called gods and goddesses on the puja table or in the house, singing Prabhat Samgiita to Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna during one's own spiritual practices, or honouring other Deities in any way undermines one's ability to observe non-compromising strictness and faith regarding the sanctity of Ista. Everyone knows that Ista is the point #10 of Sixteen Points and Sixteen Points is the backbone of spiritual life. Those chanting the names of multiple entities are trying to stand on two boats at the same time. They will surely drown.

Of course, everybody knows that Parama Purusa is one.

MPD is against AM

In countless discourses, Baba has guided us to think that Parama Purusa is the nearest and dearest One. An aspirant should not think that Parama Purusa is distant or far. Otherwise, one will invite their extreme degeneration and ruin their spiritual life. Thinking that Parama Purusa is gone is very detrimental. It is 100% contrary to our life approach. Ananda Marga mantras give the idea: “Parama Purusa is with me.” Only avidya maya, viks'epta shatkti, says that Parama Purusa is far.

Ananda Marga ideology warns us, "If someone continually thinks, “Parama Purus'a is far from me”, then He will seem to be truly far from him...If in their ignorance people think that Parama Purus'a is far from them, then He may indeed remain for from them – so far that in future, even if one cries oneself hoarse, one’s cries will never reach Him." (1)

Rather the following should be the approach.

Ananda Marga ideology guide us, "Tadihántike ca: Some people think, “No, Parama Purus'a is not far from me. He is quite near.”" (2)

It is one’s spiritual duty to always remember and cultivate the supreme truth that He is always with you. Remembering His close proximity is bhakti. This creation is His thought projection, and He is the nucleus. So, He cannot be far, gone, or missing. It is philosophically and spiritually wrong to have a dogmatic annual death day program like so-called mahaprayan (MPD) that dictates that Baba is gone.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "You spiritual aspirants, you should remember that Parama Puruśa is always with you and His grace is always with you, and you all are His loving children." (3)

Types of people who become atheists

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Self-awareness develops through clash. The awareness that develops through physical clash is termed jadábuddhi [crude physical intellect] because it is associated with jadá [matter]. The consciousness of animals and undeveloped human beings is matter-oriented. But even in developed human society, if someone is an atheist or a materialist, we can only term their intellect as jadábuddhi. Such people deny the existence of spirituality in order to hide their intellectual deficiencies. Their denial betrays their moral and intellectual bankruptcy. It does not speak of their glory, nor does it diminish the value of spirituality."

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Devotion plays a positive role in the process of clash. Had there been no factor to maintain the balance among all the objects created within the Macrocosmic Mind, the entire structure of the universe would have fallen apart. For the sake of harmony and balance within the universe, there is a mutual attraction among all the objects; each microcosm attracts the other microcosms. All finite microcosms – the innumerable manifestations of the Supreme Entity – are entitled to that universal love with which It has bound each microcosm to Itself, entitled to the wave of that universal love, in which Its divine ocean of bliss is perennially flowing. Attraction is the innate characteristic of microcosms. When this attraction is for finite objects, it is called káma [“physical longing”], and when it surges towards the Cosmic Entity, it is called prema [“divine love”]. Of course, káma is nothing but a limited form of prema. When microcosms rush towards Parama Puruśa [Supreme Consciousness] attracted by the irresistible force of divine love, it is termed “devotion”. Since clash drives the microcosms towards subtlety, it follows that clash must be the sustainer of devotion." (1)

Re: Gay sludge in fringes of AMPS

Namaskar,

Having read your posting, I would just like to say that due to the chemical pollutants, oestrogen etc that now find their way into streams, rivers, the sea and also into tap-water there are an increasing number of human and other animals and fish who are now being born with the physical traits of both sexes. We are living in strange times.

I read an article about these intersex babies some months ago, and although I can't remember the exact statistics it is currently something like 1 in a thousand babies (in the case of some fish species it is a much higher percentage) .

Doctors have a tendency to assign these hermaphrodites to the female sex as this involves less surgery, but some of these intersex kids are campaigning for there to be no surgery immediately after birth, and instead allow the decision to be made by the child when he/she reaches a sufficient age to be aware of the implications. However, as at birth it involves smaller surgical procedures doctors are in favour of continuing on as they are. And society too finds it easier to have the gender resolved at an early stage.

Whereas I agree with what you say about Baba's references to man and woman, husband and wife within the AM marriage ceremony. I'm also aware what a terrible samsara it must be  for an intersex baby to be assigned to the wrong gender at birth. And this situation will only get worse until we get to grips with our present-day pollution.

Brotherly,
Brigunath

Realizing your spiritual power + 3 more

Baba
Realizing your spiritual power

Namaskar,

When a person (a) practices sadhana sincerely with a pointed mind, (b) is regular and strictly following all the dos and don'ts, conduct rules, and asanas, and (c) is graced with bhakti for Parama Purusa, then certainly that sadhaka's personality gets wholly transformed. All those great people in the past, with their love for Parama Purusa, understood the feeling of suffering humanity; their love was not limited to a particular tribe, or community, or color, or race. Those extraordinary human qualities are just the expression of spiritual potentialities in the life of a sadhaka. Those devoid of true spiritual feeling do not have this.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Spiritual development enables one to help others

If a person is physically sick, they are quite limited in what they can do. Their body is weak, and they will not be able to perform their own designated duties, let alone help others. Similarly, if a person is psychically ill and suffering from depression etc, that person will not be in position to help and serve others. In both the physical and mental spheres, one needs energy and strength to reach their potential and serve society.

That is why in their selfish way, big corporations try to tend to the physical and mental well-being of their employees. This is done to maximise their productivity and output. When people are physically and psychically well, they are more effective in their job. They can reach their potential.

This theorem applies in the spiritual realm as well. If a person is spiritually developed they can overcome all kinds of difficulties, and they will be able to help and guide others in all the realms of life. They understand another's pain and can solve their problems. That is what is meant by gaining spiritual strength and utilising one's spiritual potential. Having spiritual potentialities does not mean doing all kinds of tricks like fake yogis and magicians who make gold watches appear and disappear etc. Those types of avidya tantric pursuits have nothing to do with fulfilling one's spiritual potential.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Sadhakas ready to serve using spiritual potentialities

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "You will have to provide a soothing touch to the physical, physico-psychic and psycho-physical spheres of life, otherwise human existence will become meaningless...We will have to locate the source of these troubles...we will be removing the miseries...permanently remove those afflictions, which will rectify the sources of troubles in the proper way. (1)

According to the above teaching, when one has bhakti then they can understand others' pain and difficulties and they are able to help and serve them. This is the proper explanation of Ananda Sutram, Sutra 5-14. Because it is about spiritual potentialities.

Sutra 5-14: Vyast'isamas't'isha'riirama'nasa'dhya'tmikasambha'vana'ya'm' caramo' payogashca

Ananda Sutram states, "There should be maximum utilization of the physical, metaphysical, and spiritual potentialities of unit and collective bodies of human society." (2)

So the above sutra is about developing bhakti wherein they have sincere concern for all. And each and every margii has such feelings, to varying degrees. Numerous margiis were meat-eaters before getting diiksa, but after doing sadhana they developed genuine feeling for the well-being of animals. And not only that, more subtle faculties developed, and they naturally cultivated love for all. Now, day and night, they are busy serving others. They do not feel that their own problem is any problem. Rather, just they are busy relieving others' suffering. This happens only due to sincerity and bhakti. Their spiritual potentialities developed and that changed their entire behavior.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

If a person does not have that feeling in their dealing and behavior, it demonstrates they could not develop genuine love of Parama Purusa. Instead they engaged in self-propaganda, self-prestige, and other worldly longings etc. In that unfortunate circumstance none can say that Ananda Marga sadhana has some demerits, rather such persons could not practice or follow those spiritual teachings.

So the above Sutra 5-14 on Prout is about utilising one’s spiritual potentialities. According to Prout, those who are elevated spiritually will have to render service to the society by using their spiritual potentialities.

Those spiritually strong will render spiritual service

Here is an English summary from the original Hindi teaching from Ananda Vacanamrtam - 4:

I have told in the Prout philosophy we will take spiritual service for the society from those who have spiritual strength. Such sadhakas who sit in Himalayan caves doing penance but do not teach anybody or guide anybody - that will not be approved. They will have to serve. They will have to do spiritual service. To them I do not say pull a rickshaw, but if they do not do spiritual service, and if they just sit in Himalayan caves and do not come in contact with the world, and instead proclaim that the world is illusion, yet at the same time they go on eating fruits and roots and accept such service from other human beings of this world - these things will not continue any longer. That has been going on for a long time, but it will not continue any longer; those days are over. (English summary) (3)

They will have to do spiritual service by teaching sadhana, lecturing about spiritual life and sadhana, inspiring others, conducting sadhana shivir programs, conversing with others about God, doing pracara, and encouraging and bringing others onto the path of Ananda Marga sadhana etc
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conduct is the main thing

By their conduct we can see one's character because a person’s conduct is the mirror of the mind. By that way we can see who is who etc. Here the point is that those who do sadhana will have more refined conduct. Whereas if someone's conduct shows tendencies towards narrow-mindedness, groupism, and mean propensities then we have to think and understand that that person is not doing proper sadhana. So on the basis of one's conduct we can see who is a genuine sadhakas and who is not, i.e. how far someone is pointed and committed to Ananda Marga ideology and to what degree that is reflected in their conduct. Conduct is the main distinguishing factor in understanding who is who and what is what.

Conclusion

When one is an advanced sadhaka and ensconced in the feeling of neo-humanism they can serve the entire humanity - otherwise not. Then only will one have true love for all. Here we are not talking about the expression of superficial love which is limited and narrow: such as when one is loving their own children but hating other children; or when one is dying for one's own race, country, or community but exploiting other countries etc; or when one is eulogizing their own superiority and belittling others' good things.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

There are many so-called good people in the society who have done many things for their personal family, caste, colour, or religion. And there are various so-called monks who have completely dedicated themselves to a particular race and encouraged hatred with other races. They don't hesitate even to engage in mass murder. That is all part of the religious history. No doubt in their own particular, narrow community they may be treated as something great, but in truth they are low because they do not have universal feeling. Their "love" is based on selfishness. They did such service works for spreading their own religion and for their own view or narrow cause, not out of any greater feeling of universal compassion.

The central idea is that when one does true sadhana the mind will expand, and one will have spiritual strength. Those sadhakas will have love for everyone. And they will be able to understand others' pain. And that is what is meant by sutra 5-14. Otherwise, by doing some avidya tantric practices, one gets some type of avidya’ powers and  that only brings their degeneration.

Misuse of occult powers brings ruination

In Prabhat Samgiita #3333 reveals what happens to those who long for occult powers: "- Aes't'ashvaryya tumi cha'r'a'... kare viveka-ha'ra' -"

Purport: O' Parama Purusa only You utilise the occult powers in proper way; whereas all those others who use them destroy their conscience. Means they start doing all kinds of negative things. In trying to show their occult powers they end up destroying and killing others and they themselves will be invite negative samskaras such that they will be degenerated into stone, wood or mud. So what to say about serving others, rather those lusting after occult powers destroy themselves.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Using spiritual potentialities

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "You will surely attain spiritual progress. And because of your spiritual progress, you will come closer and closer to the Supreme Consciousness, you will come in contact with His psychic waves. And in that state you will be able to render still better service to human beings, animals and plants, by means of Neo-Humanism. May you all be blessed." (4)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Sádhaná or intuitional practice means an effort to break through the barrier of this smallness." (5)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The unit beings that have been in possession of the Cosmic Mind in part and that have been progressing within It, are also conscious of their smallness and this very sense of smallness is their individuality – unit-hood. Sádhaná or intuitional practice means an effort to break through the barrier of this smallness." (6)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "How can one shake off the influence of static inertness? How can one get freedom from the bondages of names and forms? Just as the goldsmith uses a hammer and process of melting (in fire) to extract the real gold from the various ornaments, similarly a practical spiritual aspirant will have to break the bondages of names and forms in this expressed world through the cultivation of knowledge (which is mutative), devotion (which is sentient). By virtue of the heat of the fire of sádhaná and the strength derived from sustained intuitional practice, a sádhaka can overcome the static inertness." (7)

Naturally spiritual strengths develop

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Most psychic diseases, if not all, grow out of the defective control over the objectivated mind. If one is alert, any trouble can be avoided. Those who regularly practise Iishvara prańidhána or dhyána (meditation) can remain free from these diseases, as their minds will remain in a balanced state. One of the numerous benefits of sádhaná is that it keeps the mind free from psychic disease and encourages the natural growth of the mind. This is of tremendous importance since such problems may arise not only in individual life, but in collective life as well. Individual human beings as well as large communities often suffer from some sort of psychic disease. A subjugated people suffer from an inferiority complex towards the sovereign elite, the ruling class. When India was a dependent colony, many Indians used to describe the members of the ruling community as God's children, obviously due to their deep-rooted inferiority complex. Most of them wondered: “Will India ever see the light of freedom? When will we ever win the struggle against the ruling class?” This shows that the entire indigenous community was a victim of inferiority complex, the removal of which would require a group of leaders endowed with enormous mental strength and noble character – a group of mighty personalities. India at that time was not fortunate enough to have such great people, and that is why the struggle for Indian freedom had to be prolonged. Otherwise, India could have gained freedom in a much shorter time." (8)

Everlasting freedom achieved only by sadhana

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "One thing which helps in getting remission, or nivrtti, is called artha [that which provides temporary liberation from mundane desires]. But artha is purely physical, so it can bring only physical and temporary remission. For everlasting freedom from duhkha, Paramártha [that which provides permanent liberation] is the only remedy. Paramártha does not bring only temporary remission, but everlasting freedom from duhkha. Atyantikii nivrtti can be obtained only by Paramártha which relieves one of all duhkha: physical, mental and spiritual. This Paramártha can only be obtained by sadhana, that is, spiritual practices. For maintaining peace psychic equilibrium is necessary, and for maintaining this equilibrium freedom from all duhkha forever is necessary. Freedom from duhkha or atyantikii nivrtti can be obtained only from Paramártha, and Paramártha can be achieved only by sadhana, or spiritual practices." (9)

Intuitional practice helps one overcome

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The attraction towards earthly things born out of lust (káma) and attachment (moha) makes conjugal relations a necessity. Intuitional practice helps one to overcome this need. One becomes indifferent to it." (10)

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us, "A sadhaka, in order to attain spiritual progress, require the help of Vidyámáyá, but at the culminating stage of sádhaná, Vidyámáya has no further value. A sádhaka performs sádhaná to tear away the veil of darkness of the variegated world created by Avidyámáyá and to strive to established himself on the path of pratisaincara." (11)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The endeavour to remove inferiority complexes from the mind leads human beings slowly but surely to the Supreme Entity and establishes them in universal humanism. Hence it will not do for those who are determined to solve the problems of humanity to accept inferior ideals; along with this they must also acquire the strength they need to implement their ideals. The active endeavour to acquire this strength is called sádhaná – the sádhaná of the Supreme. It should be borne in mind that no theory will ever bring people salvation. In fact, it is the inner strength gained from spiritual practices which helps to expand the individual mind. The tremendous force acquired from spiritual practices helps to bridge the gap between the harsh realities of human existence and the supreme desideratum of human life. This is an eternal truth, applicable to all spheres of life – social, economic, psychic and spiritual." (12)

By sadhana free yourself from ignorance

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "“The jiiva and Shiva are the same” – this idea helps the jiiva to become one with Shiva. And “We are different; we are two entities” – this idea compels the jiiva to move round that Supreme Hub. What is your sádhaná? By sádhaná you are to free yourself from this ignorance, from the slumber of ignorance." (13)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Those who have tasted even a little of the flowing nectar of Brahma, know that they can never be impure. This constant thought of self-purity greatly helps to exhaust their samskáras or reactive momenta, as a result of which the samskáras held in the sthirabhúmi of their práńa are gradually destroyed. With the help of sádhaná or spiritual practice the spell of pleasurable and painful requitals ceases both internally and externally. Sádhakas call it the combustion of the seed of action in the fire of sádhaná." (14)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “If a child says something rational, it should be accepted, and if the Supreme Creator says something irrational, it should be totally rejected. It is undesirable to accept something just because it is written in the scriptures, because if irrational sayings are accepted and implemented, the decline of dharma will be the result.” (1)

True economic viability

Prout philosophy says, "In the subtle economic sense, the value of wealth is the real wealth. Wealth, if not properly defined, may mean only riches. But the value of wealth is to be measured in terms of its capacity to purchase commodities. That is, the purchasing capacity of wealth is its real value. This real value of wealth has not yet been properly understood in numerical terms by economists." (1)

Commonly in society - especially when dealing with laborers - people demand a certain wage. They think that that wage or salary defines their wealth. When in actuality, the value of that wage is only relative to the cost of living / purchasing capacity. For instance, if a person was making $5 per hour and they got a pay raise to $7 per hour, but the cost of living (food, housing, medicine etc) doubled, then that pay raise is meaningless. Because their purchasing capacity actually decreased. That is why Prout philosophy states that real wealth is determined by one’s ability to afford the requirements of life. That is one’s purchasing capacity. And if one’s purchasing capacity increases then that has value. Because it means they can buy more with the money they have. Whereas if one’s wage or salary increases but their purchasing capacity remains the same or decreases, then that pay raise is meaningless.

Expansive exaltation of human society

Original Ananda Vanii states: “Clouds cannot overcast the sun for a long time. The creatures of darkness never want the expansive exaltation of human society. Even then, human beings shall march ahead. No one can arrest the speed of their progress. You must be the harbingers, you must be the pioneers of this victorious march. See that not a single individual lags behind.”  (Ananda Vanii #36)

Note: Sadguru Baba has assigned a number to all His original and true Ananda Vaniis. In contrast, Fake Ananda Vaniis do not have any number. By this simple formula, one can easily recognise which is a true Ananda Vanii and which is fake. For the upcoming occasion of January 1st 2017, all Ananda Marga units should use one of Baba’s original and true Ananda Vaniis, not a fake one. By this way, one will surely get His blessing.

Deriving joy from others suffering + 3 more

Baba

Deriving joy from others suffering

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "On seeing a person in distress one should have the feeling – “Alas, how miserable is the condition of this person! Let his miseries be over expeditiously. I shall also try to remove his misery as early as possible.”” (1)

Rightly served?

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “There are people, however, who have opposite feelings...On seeing someone in distress, they think: “Rightly served. As you sow, so you reap. Let their troubles augment.” Such human-shaped animals are prowling about in many fields of life, including the field of politics.” (2)

I remember when one person became seriously ill. In that moment, his friends were very sad, while his foes rejoiced. This type of rejoicing is a negative human tendency, diametrically opposite to Sadguru Baba’s teachings on this matter. We should never derive happiness by seeing others suffer.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Actually, there are some instances where negative people derive happiness from seeing others in pain and misery. For instance:
(a) After a terrorist attack, some negative people were celebrating and rejoicing by seeing others’ pain, anguish, and suffering.
(b) When xyz was sick his supporters were very concerned for his well-being, while some negative people became happy.

Cheering seeing others’ suffering

In today’s tumultuous world arena where there is strife and conflict throughout, and where tensions and anxieties are at an all-time high, sadly people give way to this very negative outlook of basking and celebrating others’ torment and suffering - as is happening in the below image. As sadhakas and sadvipras, we should not give in to this abhorrent tendency.

In the above image, the masses are congregating in the streets to celebrate others’ suffering and torment wherein countless innocent civilians and children were maimed, violated, and murdered. This is a very low point for our cherished humanity.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Good people think for others welfare

In his book, Nagina ji says that when his boss, who used to harass him regularly, was punished by the higher authorities then Nagina became very happy. The next time he saw Baba, then Baba scolded him for his behaviour.

Here the point is that there is a negative psychic tendency to derive pleasure from watching others suffer. In the mind, there is one propensity known as kru'rata', or sadistic tendency. It is this vrtti which leads negative people to think in this manner. Yet Baba guides us to follow the path of benevolence. So we should all be aware about Baba's teachings and overcome this tendency of kru'rata', i.e. sadistic mentality. Baba describes how we are to feel towards those undergoing suffering.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, ""And for those people who live in misery, one should develop an attitude of compassion [for them]. One should never feel happy upon seeing the sorrows of others, but should think, “What a miserable life that person is leading. I hope things get better for him soon.”" (3)

Irrespective of how good or bad someone is, if they are suffering we should have empathy and compassion for their situation. During PC or dharma samiiksa, Baba would point out such circumstances where a person rejoiced in another's misfortune. Baba wants us to overcome such a defective mentality. That is His clear-cut message: Do not derive pleasure from seeing others suffer. You should have karuna (compassion) and be ever-ready to help those in need, in any way you can. Never indulge in selfish enjoyment by watching someone’s hardship and misery.

Solution: two-step approach

This type of disease - a cruel and barbarous outlook - is a vrtti, propensity, and if one's mind has not been purified by regular spiritual practice, then they will be prone to feelings of this nature: deriving pleasure by seeing others in misery. In essence, Baba has given a two-step approach for ridding oneself of this sadistic mentality: (a) neutralise and (b) channelise.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Neutralising the mind means bringing it back into a balanced state. By harboring the ideal of compassion (karun'a), then that person will shed themselves of this cruel mentality, in a very natural way. They will regain their integrity of mind and softness of mind. In a phrase, compassion is the medicine. It will cure this type of inhumane mind-set. Then one will gain a stance of equipoise. That is the whole aim of neutralising the mind - to return it to a balanced state.

Then the mind is primed and ready to be goaded toward the spiritual realm. By channelising the mind towards Parama Purusa, through the spiritual practices of kiirtan and sadhana etc, the mind will become more refined and subtle. At that point, one will never be able to think ill of others. That sadhaka will always be grounded in feelings of neo-humanism, ever-ready to help those in distress. That shows they have karuna.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "One should never feel happy upon seeing the sorrows of others, but should think, “What a miserable life that person is leading. I hope things get better for him soon.”" (4)

Suppose in the wake of a disaster, communist leaders who harassed Ananda Marga are buried in the rubble. When neo-humanistic margiis arrive on-site to do relief work they will not taunt those communists. Rather, seeing them as an expression of Narayana, those margiis will rescue and help them. That is our Guru's teaching.

Namaskar,

Jyotirmaya Deva

~ In-depth study ~

Bad people say: “Well done! He deserved it!”

Next Baba reviews one important shloka about cultivating benevolence and compassion towards others. In so doing, He presents important life scenarios that are invaluable to us all.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Suppose someone is very sad; seeing his miserable fate people will say, “Well done! He deserved it!” But this is not the proper approach. The proper approach should be to show compassion, thinking “What a pity he is in great trouble. Had I also been in such a difficult position, how badly I would feel.” In this way the feeling of compassion (karuńa) should be aroused in one’s mind." (6)

Should not feel happy by their misery

By all of the above, and by understanding the teachings of neo-humanism, as sadhakas we should strive to see all as the manifestation of Parama Purusa. Regardless of who is in trouble and suffering, one should not feel happy by their misery. We are to impose the karuna vrtti and arouse compassion to make the mind balanced. Then that balanced mind should be channelised towards the thought of the Great - i.e. Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The whole point is that seeing others suffer should not make one happy. We should have empathy for their plight and help relieve them of their distress. That is the quality of a sadhaka. We are to think that Narayana has come in this form. Then we can render real service and help them.

In this regard there should not be any hypocrisy. If anyone is in trouble or suffering in any way, we should be sincere in cultivating compassionate thoughts within and offer our help. There should not be any difference between our internal feeling and our external expression.

How to respond to someone's suffering

Thus when anyone is suffering there is only one response: compassion. One should empathize with their condition and do what they can to sincerely help relieve them of pain. No matter what our personal feelings may be for anyone's political or group interests, when they are suffering the only response is 100% compassion and support. That is what every sadhaka should follow.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

It is not that only their group cohorts should help them, and those who deem that person as an enemy should rejoice in their suffering. This is not the way. To plunge into deriving sadistic pleasure from anyone's painful condition is against Guru's teaching. Such a person is only creating negative samskaras for themselves and thus inviting their own pain and suffering. No one should plunge themselves into such a predicament.

The singular stand is having compassion for the plight of those suffering and wishing for their welfare and recovery. That is the way of a true Ananda Margii. Such sadhakas will be ever-ready to help others, and their mind will always be inclined toward the thought of Parama Purusa. And that is the way to live in this world - thinking of Him and serving those in need.

We should all be aware about Baba’s teachings and overcome this tendency of kru'rata', i.e. sadistic mentality, and cultivate compassion.

Why sadistic feeling is bad

If your friend is having a problem, then naturally you will also feel unhappy seeing your friend suffer. Whereas, if an enemy - or someone you do not like - is suffering, then some negative people feel happy. This is a degrading human tendency.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Some negative people derive happiness from watching others undergo suffering. This type of heartless outlook is very inappropriate, especially for a sadhaka. Cruelness is a very bad quality and antithetical to spirituality; and, sadhana can only be practiced when the mind is in a calm, balanced state.

So we should not harbour any vrtti that is callous in nature or derive pleasure from another's suffering. That will pull one far from the path of spirituality and universal welfare. Then one will be going against the code of neo-humanism and one will not be able to perform sadhana.

Sense of duty

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Bear in mind that you have a duty towards others, but that no one has any duty towards you. Everyone’s individual duty is fixed. Only one who moves forward with this as his or her only thought can do proper service. Otherwise the thought may remain in the mind of the one doing service that I have done such and such work for that person, so that person ought to do such and such for me. The thought must remain in the mind of the one doing service that I have a duty towards others but no one has any duty towards me.” (1)

Note: In the various religions it is taught, “If you do A then you will get bonus B.” That return (i.e. bonus B) may be in the form of virtue, praise, or respect or help in your hour of need etc. So they do in order to get something in return. In our Ananda Marga outlook, the standard is very high. One is to serve others and see them as narayan, not anticipating anything in return from narayan. When one feeds a hungry person, then that act of service is itself the prize. There is nothing else, no other return.

Motivated by religious dogmatic teachings, the mind of selfish people works in a different way. Such lowly persons think that, "Others have the duty to take care of my situation and their own situation as well. But they should not bother me about their own problems." This is the way such selfish persons think.

And if for some reason that selfish person "helps" others then they want full return plus interest of their so-called service. There is no question of a sense of duty and true service; these ideals have no place in their mind. Because of all this, the present day general society's condition is unfavourable and bleak. All around where materialism and religious dogma has taken root, this is prevalent.

Sadguru Baba's teaching leads in a different direction. In His above teaching, Baba is very beautifully guiding that our duty is to serve everybody without any expectation for anything in return.

Black pact: vaeshyas & church

In the past and in the present also, those in power have used the notions of fate and predestination as a tactic to exploit the common people. If everyday citizens feel that the hell they are facing in their day-to-day life is a matter of fate and there is nothing to be done about, then those people will be easier to control and manipulate.

Now in the height of this materialistic era, the top capitalists employ the clergy, chaplains, and counselors etc, and those paid clergy, chaplains, and counselors are effectively able to convince the common people to sit back and accept their fate. By infusing this psychology upon the masses, then vaeshyas feel assured there will not be any uprising against them.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The vaeshyas [capitalist exploiters] use the vipras to try to spread intellectual propaganda among the masses to prevent them from finding any philosophical justification for their suppressed grievances against the vaeshya structure. This intellectual propaganda aims to convince people that they are the victims of circumstance. It argues, “Everything is destiny. Everything is preordained.” Such doctrines help the vaeshyas to perpetuate their structure. They destroy the personal force of people and make them the playthings of fate. People accept the idea that everything is preordained, and support the status quo." (1)

Prerequisite for Prout

Prout philosophy states, “The universe is the thought projection of Brahma, so the ownership of the universe lies with the Supreme Entity...Everything is the common patrimony of all, and the Father of all is Brahma…We must not forget, even for a single moment, that the entire animate world is a vast joint family. Nature has not assigned any portion of this property to any particular individual. Private ownership has been created by selfish opportunists, as the loopholes in this system provide them with ample scope for self-aggrandizement through exploitation. When the entire wealth of the universe is the common patrimony of all living beings, can the system in which some roll in luxury, while others, deprived of a morsel of food, shrivel up and starve to death bit by bit, be said to have the support of dharma?” (1)

Note: So long as one does not feel this above teaching in the inner core of their heart then their understanding of Prout remains nothing but a dream. Only when this teaching is deeply embedded in one’s mind will a person be able to strongly oppose economic injustice and establish the ideals of Prout.

Why religions are poisonous

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "To stifle the progress of humanity, the followers of these religions play on human sentiments and other weaknesses. They want to perpetuate the hold of the vested interests by infusing an inferiority complex into the human mind. While preaching their religious ideas, some claim that the social, economic and political systems were direct creations of God and hence destined to be observed in all ages and all times with equal veneration. They pronounce that those who refuse to follow this divine decree will be doomed to burn in the scorching heat of God’s wrath, or dammed to suffer eternal hell-fire. To deny people the scope of verifying the rationality of different scriptures they declare that such-and-such scriptures are infallible and so nobody has the right to question their veracity. If the philosophical texts contradict the scriptures, then their propounders will be declared as atheists." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Through nityánitya viveka, human beings become aware of the fleeting nature of transient objects. They observe that with change in time, place and person, corresponding changes occur in social, political, economic, and all other spheres of life take to which they have to adapt themselves. Those who are reluctant to adapt themselves to the changed circumstances are doomed to destruction. A religion or an “ism” is created in a certain age which itself is a product of the three factors of time, place and person. However, the religion does not recognize the necessity of adjustment with the change in social life. It refuses to realize that the old rules and regulations of the previous age are now only mere historical records, having lost their relevance in the present dynamic society." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology says,"So it is seen that in the absence of nityánitya viveka the propounders of religion want to thwart the intellectual progress of human society at large. They knowingly refuse to understand that any observation regarding the spatial, temporal and personal factors, from whatever person it might come, is bound to lose its relevance in a transformed situation." “To establish the mind on this point of Váráńasii or káshi, one has to quickly elevate the mind.
