How some Wts cheat

Namaskar,

Every sincere Ananda Margii is familiar with Baba's teachings on the tiirtha (holy land) dogma. Even then, now and again, some become confused and propagandise the dust of one or another land as being holy.

Some DMS brochures and pamphlets have highlighted places of pilgrimage like different temples, hills, etc. All these local “attractions” have been showcased as special places to go to and visit - i.e. sightseeing etc. This means the aim of DMS function has become secondary and so-called holy places and pilgrimages have become primary.

Before 1990, when our Gurudev intended to bless His children by conducting DMC in a particular area, then simply the dates and places were conveyed via wts and other margis - either personally, or by phone, or by letters, or simple pamphlets. There was no mention about that area’s local historical sites or religious temples etc where He was going to hold DMC. Rather that place itself acquired importance with His auspicious arrival.

We all know that Baba clearly explained about "tiirthas" as tire sthitah yah sah tiirthah and strongly condemns visiting any temple or other sites as a tiirtha. Yet the organizers of recent DMS’s have expressed as if such dogmatic tiirtha sites are recognized by Ananda Marga philosophy, thereby misleading common margiis of the world. This is the harmful scene that is occurring.

Following is the response to this holy land dogma.

People of static mentality waste their everything

First and foremost, Baba guides us to seek Parama Purusa within and that searching Him externally is a waste of time and money. Below Baba cites how only static people averse to meditation aim to seek Him in various external locations - and this a big waste of time and resources. The real tiirtha lies in the golden casket of the human heart.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "People generally want to live without intense sádhaná in the spiritual sphere and without much effort in the mundane sphere. When people seek to acquire fortune or attain salvation without proper effort, then they try to remove their sins by visiting the so-called holy places of pilgrimage – they try to escape across the Baetarańii [Styx] by holding the tails of calves! The merchants in those holy places understand this mental weakness of the people, and by taking advantage of it, exploit them to the utmost. As a result, the pilgrims are unable to worship as they should, and are misguided into moving from one place to another by these exploiters. But this does not satisfy their spiritual hunger, and they feel they have not at all been relieved of their sins. Thus people of static mentality waste their valuable time, energy and money rushing from one place of pilgrimage to another."
"Then what is the real tiirtha, and where is it situated? The golden line of the human heart whence saḿkalpa and vikalpa have originated and where they touch each other in sweet spiritual bliss – that is the real tiirtha. One who remains at this common point is called tiirastha or tiirtha – there the person and the presiding Lord of the holy place become one. Those who forget the Lord of the holy place, that ever-wakeful One in perpetual tranquillity like an eternal, unflickering flame of light in the deepest recesses of their hearts – those who wander here and there in the mundane world in search of a holy place – can they attain salvation? Shiva answers Párvatii, “No, this type of person cannot attain salvation.”" (1)

Real tiirtha lies within

Those who are true disciples of Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji understand that His teachings are pointed and clear. When He has given the guideline that the real tiirtha lies within then they understand that the system of Ananda Marga sadhana is the only way for attaining Him.

Only confused persons justify that places like Ananda Nagar, Jamalpur, Kolkata, or selected DMS locations like Deoghar and Kullu etc should be regarded as holy and that everyone should visit those places. Unfortunately, convincing such persons who have fallen prey to the holy land dogma is not easy - they are deeply rooted in their misunderstanding. Undeterred, we should go on trying to help them.

Static people: wander one place to the other

So Baba's teachings are quite clear. We do not give an iota of credence to the holy land dogma. Our path is the the psycho-spiritual approach of dharma sadhana where we find Him within.

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "For those who are searching the Lord without and not within, [Ananda Marga philosophy] says,"
Idaḿ tiirtham idaḿ tiirthaḿ bhramanti támasáh janáh;
Átmatiirthaḿ na jánanti kathaḿ mokśa varánane.
[Here is one place of pilgrimage, there is another place. People of static nature wander from the one place to the other place. But without finding the real place of pilgrimage within themselves, how can they attain salvation?]

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "They are all persons dominated by the static principle, whose wandering from one holy place to another is simply of no use. All this wandering results in a waste of money and energy." (2)

Tiirtha Is internal, not external

Further Baba guides us that the real tiirtha lies in doing deep meditation and that it is a dogma to think that one should go to a specific land like Varanasi or Rameshvaram.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Actually, tiirtha means that stance from where if you go a step deeper, a step inner, you will be in the land of bliss, and if you go a step cruder you will be within the realm of crude materiality, the crude world. So tiirasthaḿ. A man should always try to keep his mind, keep himself, in tiirtha. So as soon as he will sit in meditation, he will be in deep meditation; and as soon as he will start worldly work he will be starting worldly work. His position, his stance, should always be maintained. A man should always be in tiirtha. How can one be always in Varanasi or Rameshvaram [places of pilgrimage]? It is not possible. One will have to look after his hearth and home. So tiirtha is something internal, not external." (3)

Dogma: some move hither & thither

When Párvatii asked Lord Shiva, “O Lord, which one is the best tiirtha?” Lord Shiva’s reply was:
Idaḿ tiirtham idaḿ tiirthaḿ bhramanti támasáh janáh;
Átmatiirthaḿ na jánanti kathaḿ mokśa varánane.
[Here is one place of pilgrimage, there is another place. People of static nature wander from the one place to the other place. But without finding the real place of pilgrimage within themselves, how can they attain salvation?]

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “O lady, támasik people, those who are guided by static ideas, move hither and thither – ‘This is the tiirtha, this is the kuńd́a [sacred pond], one should have a dip in it… this is the idol, this is that, this is that’ – and doing this they are simply wasting their valuable time, energy and money. These external tiirthas are actually no tiirtha. The actual tiirtha lies within, not without.” (4)

Searching in tomb

Even then a few give their own sermons how Kolkata or Jamalpur etc is a veritable tiirtha site. They write things like:

"People in future will visit these places [Kolkata & Ananda Nagar] to have a glimpse of the dust touched by His lotus feet. No dry argument can check this."

But how can any rationally-minded Ananda Margii accept such a statement in the wake of Sadguru Baba's above teachings.

Do they think Baba contradicts Himself or that Baba is bound in some particular place and He is not everywhere - just He is confined to the relative factors of time, space, and person.

Do they think that really we should seek Him externally in this tomb and that town, and forget the divine truth the He lies quiescent within the mind and heart of every bhakta.

"Vya'pitvm ca...dine"

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The Supreme Being is omnipresent, all-pervading and witness to everything, everywhere. It is not proper to confine Him to a particular place and say that He has eaten butter at this place or taken a dip in the Ganges at that particular place, thus limiting Him to a particular region or a particular country or the glorification of a particular sacred place, and thereby limit His all-pervasiveness" (5)

I search for You everywhere

“Práńer májháre khuinjechi tomáre, gánete diyecho dhará, tumi…” (Prabhat Samgiita #2888)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, I am searching You in the deep core of my heart, but You only came into my grasp through the world of songs. By singing compositions of Prabhat Samgiita, I felt Your sweet presence. It is Your grace. I do not know whether You are near or far, but You have filled my entire being with Your divine presence due to your karun’a’.

Baba, I have looked for You in the sky and in the air, and also by attending countless ritualistic darshans in various holy places with heartfelt enthusiasm, fervor, and feeling. In forage for of You, I have scoured this entire earth, calling for You in all the ten directions, even venturing out to far off lands; I went to various “tiirthas”  - Puri, Mecca, Rome, Jerusalem, and I also went to Ananda Nagar, Varanasi, Tiljala, and Jamalpur in search of You there. Alas, I did not see You in those places. It was a waste of my time.

Baba, today I realised there is no need of seeking You in far, remote places, since You always reside in the depths of my mind. You are my nearest and dearest One. Baba, by doing Your pure sa’dhana’ with one-pointed longing for You, I become lost in Your infinite form...

The cause of endless conflict

Ananda Marga ideology states, "There are a variety of religions in the world formulated by different propounders. But instead of enhancing the spirit of unity in the human society, these religions have actually increased disunity and mutual conflict. How many wars have been fought in the name of religion? So, far from being a unifying force, religion should be seen as a cause of disharmony." (1)

Weak minded people do this

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Let me give another example of what happens when one loses control over the nerve fibres. Some people are so crazy about football that they dream of the game while sleeping. What is a dream? When we think during the wakeful state our conscious mind operates and we understand that we are thinking inwardly. But when we think during the state of sleep, the conscious mind does not work and we wrongly think the objects thought of are real. So a football fan who dreams about the game while sleeping may shout, “Gooaal! Gooaal!” and start kicking left and right with his legs. Clearly, his nerve cells have lost control of the nerve fibres.” (1)
