Deriving joy from others suffering + 3 more

Baba

Deriving joy from others suffering

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "On seeing a person in distress one should have the feeling – “Alas, how miserable is the condition of this person! Let his miseries be over expeditiously. I shall also try to remove his misery as early as possible.”” (1)

Rightly served?

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “There are people, however, who have opposite feelings...On seeing someone in distress, they think: “Rightly served. As you sow, so you reap. Let their troubles augment.” Such human-shaped animals are prowling about in many fields of life, including the field of politics.” (2)

I remember when one person became seriously ill. In that moment, his friends were very sad, while his foes rejoiced. This type of rejoicing is a negative human tendency, diametrically opposite to Sadguru Baba’s teachings on this matter. We should never derive happiness by seeing others suffer.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Actually, there are some instances where negative people derive happiness from seeing others in pain and misery. For instance:
(a) After a terrorist attack, some negative people were celebrating and rejoicing by seeing others’ pain, anguish, and suffering.
(b) When xyz was sick his supporters were very concerned for his well-being, while some negative people became happy.

Cheering seeing others’ suffering

In today’s tumultuous world arena where there is strife and conflict throughout, and where tensions and anxieties are at an all-time high, sadly people give way to this very negative outlook of basking and celebrating others’ torment and suffering - as is happening in the below image. As sadhakas and sadvipras, we should not give in to this abhorrent tendency.

In the above image, the masses are congregating in the streets to celebrate others’ suffering and torment wherein countless innocent civilians and children were maimed, violated, and murdered. This is a very low point for our cherished humanity.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Good people think for others welfare

In his book, Nagina ji says that when his boss, who used to harass him regularly, was punished by the higher authorities then Nagina became very happy. The next time he saw Baba, then Baba scolded him for his behaviour.

Here the point is that there is a negative psychic tendency to derive pleasure from watching others suffer. In the mind, there is one propensity known as kru'rata', or sadistic tendency. It is this vrtti which leads negative people to think in this manner. Yet Baba guides us to follow the path of benevolence. So we should all be aware about Baba's teachings and overcome this tendency of kru'rata', i.e. sadistic mentality. Baba describes how we are to feel towards those undergoing suffering.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy says, ""And for those people who live in misery, one should develop an attitude of compassion [for them]. One should never feel happy upon seeing the sorrows of others, but should think, “What a miserable life that person is leading. I hope things get better for him soon.”" (3)

Irrespective of how good or bad someone is, if they are suffering we should have empathy and compassion for their situation. During PC or dharma samiiksa, Baba would point out such circumstances where a person rejoiced in another's misfortune. Baba wants us to overcome such a defective mentality. That is His clear-cut message: Do not derive pleasure from seeing others suffer. You should have karuna (compassion) and be ever-ready to help those in need, in any way you can. Never indulge in selfish enjoyment by watching someone’s hardship and misery.

Solution: two-step approach

This type of disease - a cruel and barbarous outlook - is a vrtti, propensity, and if one's mind has not been purified by regular spiritual practice, then they will be prone to feelings of this nature: deriving pleasure by seeing others in misery. In essence, Baba has given a two-step approach for ridding oneself of this sadistic mentality: (a) neutralise and (b) channelise.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Neutralising the mind means bringing it back into a balanced state. By harboring the ideal of compassion (karun'a), then that person will shed themselves of this cruel mentality, in a very natural way. They will regain their integrity of mind and softness of mind. In a phrase, compassion is the medicine. It will cure this type of inhumane mind-set. Then one will gain a stance of equipoise. That is the whole aim of neutralising the mind - to return it to a balanced state.

Then the mind is primed and ready to be goaded toward the spiritual realm. By channelising the mind towards Parama Purusa, through the spiritual practices of kiirtan and sadhana etc, the mind will become more refined and subtle. At that point, one will never be able to think ill of others. That sadhaka will always be grounded in feelings of neo-humanism, ever-ready to help those in distress. That shows they have karuna.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "One should never feel happy upon seeing the sorrows of others, but should think, “What a miserable life that person is leading. I hope things get better for him soon.”" (4)

Suppose in the wake of a disaster, communist leaders who harassed Ananda Marga are buried in the rubble. When neo-humanistic margiis arrive on-site to do relief work they will not taunt those communists. Rather, seeing them as an expression of Narayana, those margiis will rescue and help them. That is our Guru's teaching.

Bad people say: “Well done! He deserved it!”

Next Baba reviews one important shloka about cultivating benevolence and compassion towards others. In so doing, He presents important life scenarios that are invaluable to us all.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Suppose someone is very sad; seeing his miserable fate people will say, “Well done! He deserved it!” But this is not the proper approach. The proper approach should be to show compassion, thinking “What a pity he is in great trouble. Had I also been in such a difficult position, how badly I would feel.” In this way the feeling of compassion (karuńa) should be aroused in one’s mind." (6)

Should not feel happy by their misery

By all of the above, and by understanding the teachings of neo-humanism, as sadhakas we should strive to see all as the manifestation of Parama Purusa. Regardless of who is in trouble and suffering, one should not feel happy by their misery. We are to impose the karuna vrtti and arouse compassion to make the mind balanced. Then that balanced mind should be channelised towards the thought of the Great - i.e. Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The whole point is that seeing others suffer should not make one happy. We should have empathy for their plight and help relieve them of their distress. That is the quality of a sadhaka. We are to think that Narayana has come in this form. Then we can render real service and help them.

In this regard there should not be any hypocrisy. If anyone is in trouble or suffering in any way, we should be sincere in cultivating compassionate thoughts within and offer our help. There should not be any difference between our internal feeling and our external expression.

How to respond to someone's suffering

Thus when anyone is suffering there is only one response: compassion. One should empathize with their condition and do what they can to sincerely help relieve them of pain. No matter what our personal feelings may be for anyone's political or group interests, when they are suffering the only response is 100% compassion and support. That is what every sadhaka should follow.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

It is not that only their group cohorts should help them, and those who deem that person as an enemy should rejoice in their suffering. This is not the way. To plunge into deriving sadistic pleasure from anyone's painful condition is against Guru's teaching. Such a person is only creating negative samskaras for themselves and thus inviting their own pain and suffering. No one should plunge themselves into such a predicament.

The singular stand is having compassion for the plight of those suffering and wishing for their welfare and recovery. That is the way of a true Ananda Margii. Such sadhakas will be ever-ready to help others, and their mind will always be inclined toward the thought of Parama Purusa. And that is the way to live in this world - thinking of Him and serving those in need.

We should all be aware about Baba’s teachings and overcome this tendency of kru'rata', i.e. sadistic mentality, and cultivate compassion.

Why sadistic feeling is bad

If your friend is having a problem, then naturally you will also feel unhappy seeing your friend suffer. Whereas, if an enemy - or someone you do not like - is suffering, then some negative people feel happy. This is a degrading human tendency.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Some negative people derive happiness from watching others undergo suffering. This type of heartless outlook is very inappropriate, especially for a sadhaka. Cruelness is a very bad quality and antithetical to spirituality; and, sadhana can only be practiced when the mind is in a calm, balanced state.

So we should not harbour any vrtti that is callous in nature or derive pleasure from another's suffering. That will pull one far from the path of spirituality and universal welfare. Then one will be going against the code of neo-humanism and one will not be able to perform sadhana.

Sense of duty

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Bear in mind that you have a duty towards others, but that no one has any duty towards you. Everyone’s individual duty is fixed. Only one who moves forward with this as his or her only thought can do proper service. Otherwise the thought may remain in the mind of the one doing service that I have done such and such work for that person, so that person ought to do such and such for me. The thought must remain in the mind of the one doing service that I have a duty towards others but no one has any duty towards me.” (1)

Note: In the various religions it is taught, “If you do A then you will get bonus B.” That return (i.e. bonus B) may be in the form of virtue, praise, or respect or help in your hour of need etc. So they do in order to get something in return. In our Ananda Marga outlook, the standard is very high. One is to serve others and see them as narayan, not anticipating anything in return from narayan. When one feeds a hungry person, then that act of service is itself the prize. There is nothing else, no other return.

Motivated by religious dogmatic teachings, the mind of selfish people works in a different way. Such lowly persons think that, "Others have the duty to take care of my situation and their own situation as well. But they should not bother me about their own problems." This is the way such selfish persons think.

And if for some reason that selfish person "helps" others then they want full return plus interest of their so-called service. There is no question of a sense of duty and true service; these ideals have no place in their mind. Because of all this, the present day general society's condition is unfavourable and bleak. All around where materialism and religious dogma has taken root, this is prevalent.

Sadguru Baba's teaching leads in a different direction. In His above teaching, Baba is very beautifully guiding that our duty is to serve everybody without any expectation for anything in return.

Black pact: vaeshyas & church

In the past and in the present also, those in power have used the notions of fate and predestination as a tactic to exploit the common people. If everyday citizens feel that the hell they are facing in their day-to-day life is a matter of fate and there is nothing to be done about, then those people will be easier to control and manipulate.

Now in the height of this materialistic era, the top capitalists employ the clergy, chaplains, and counselors etc, and those paid clergy, chaplains, and counselors are effectively able to convince the common people to sit back and accept their fate. By infusing this psychology upon the masses, then vaeshyas feel assured there will not be any uprising against them.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The vaeshyas [capitalist exploiters] use the vipras to try to spread intellectual propaganda among the masses to prevent them from finding any philosophical justification for their suppressed grievances against the vaeshya structure. This intellectual propaganda aims to convince people that they are the victims of circumstance. It argues, “Everything is destiny. Everything is preordained.” Such doctrines help the vaeshyas to perpetuate their structure. They destroy the personal force of people and make them the playthings of fate. People accept the idea that everything is preordained, and support the status quo." (1)

Prerequisite for Prout

Prout philosophy states, “The universe is the thought projection of Brahma, so the ownership of the universe lies with the Supreme Entity...Everything is the common patrimony of all, and the Father of all is Brahma…We must not forget, even for a single moment, that the entire animate world is a vast joint family. Nature has not assigned any portion of this property to any particular individual. Private ownership has been created by selfish opportunists, as the loopholes in this system provide them with ample scope for self-aggrandizement through exploitation. When the entire wealth of the universe is the common patrimony of all living beings, can the system in which some roll in luxury, while others, deprived of a morsel of food, shrivel up and starve to death bit by bit, be said to have the support of dharma?” (1)

Note: So long as one does not feel this above teaching in the inner core of their heart then their understanding of Prout remains nothing but a dream. Only when this teaching is deeply embedded in one’s mind will a person be able to strongly oppose economic injustice and establish the ideals of Prout.

Why religions are poisonous

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "To stifle the progress of humanity, the followers of these religions play on human sentiments and other weaknesses. They want to perpetuate the hold of the vested interests by infusing an inferiority complex into the human mind. While preaching their religious ideas, some claim that the social, economic and political systems were direct creations of God and hence destined to be observed in all ages and all times with equal veneration. They pronounce that those who refuse to follow this divine decree will be doomed to burn in the scorching heat of God’s wrath, or dammed to suffer eternal hell-fire. To deny people the scope of verifying the rationality of different scriptures they declare that such-and-such scriptures are infallible and so nobody has the right to question their veracity. If the philosophical texts contradict the scriptures, then their propounders will be declared as atheists." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Through nityánitya viveka, human beings become aware of the fleeting nature of transient objects. They observe that with change in time, place and person, corresponding changes occur in social, political, economic, and all other spheres of life take to which they have to adapt themselves. Those who are reluctant to adapt themselves to the changed circumstances are doomed to destruction. A religion or an “ism” is created in a certain age which itself is a product of the three factors of time, place and person. However, the religion does not recognize the necessity of adjustment with the change in social life. It refuses to realize that the old rules and regulations of the previous age are now only mere historical records, having lost their relevance in the present dynamic society." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology says,"So it is seen that in the absence of nityánitya viveka the propounders of religion want to thwart the intellectual progress of human society at large. They knowingly refuse to understand that any observation regarding the spatial, temporal and personal factors, from whatever person it might come, is bound to lose its relevance in a transformed situation." Unfortunately, the below English translation from the Electronic Edition of Baba's books (2009) is not up to the mark. It does not accurately portray Guru's original teaching given in Bengali featured above.

“To establish the mind on this point of Váráńasii or káshi, one has to quickly elevate the mind. Those who have learnt the technique of Tantra sádhaná or kápálika sádhaná, know what joy can be derived from this. It helps to establish the practitioner in the cult of Váráńasii. Analogy: what is the news?

Namaskar,

Generally people live in this world without any definite plan or program. Most are unaware about the greater meaning and aim of life. They proceed onwards in a whimsical fashion. This is the common way for most human beings, both in the past and today also.

Certainly, people have short-term, material, mundane goals, but rarely do they think about getting old, and least of all about death. These latter aspects people do not genuinely consider. Rather, they naively think they will remain on this earth forever. They think of this place as their permanent abode. By this way, they remain basically oblivious of the reality that just as one day we have come onto this earth, one day we will also go.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Caught in avidya maya & forget they will also go

Sadguru Baba has come to enlighten human beings and show the right path. Indeed in countless discourses, stories, and analogies, Baba reminds us about, "What is the right path." Because it is the nature of human beings to get caught up in avidya maya and take this world as their permanent residence and the entire reality; when in fact it is just a relative truth. It is that aspect of avidya maya known as avaranii shakti that leads one along this dark path.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "A'varańii shakti. In Sanskrit ávarańa means “to cover”. This shakti [force] is just like a black curtain in between Paramátmá and jiiva. And because of that ávarańii shakti, that dark curtain of ávarańii shakti, that sombre curtain of ávarańii shakti, jiivas cannot see the Lord." (1)

Covered by this type of avaranii shakti, people forget about the ephemeral nature of life. When they bury their near and dear ones in the cemetery then for a moment they consider their own mortality. This is known as smashan vaeragya, or cemetery vaeragya (renunciation.) But once they leave that cemetery once again they come under the spell of avaranii shakti and forget that they too will die one day.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

How human life is short

Baba's main teaching is that we come here only for a short while so we should not think this is our permanent home; nothing in this world is lasting. Death can come anytime. But people forget about this fact. That is why Baba brings this point - i.e. that human life is short - to the fore again and again. He has given this teaching in Caryacarya (CC-II, 'Sadhana', point #8), philosophical discourses, stories, shlokas, analogies, and in all kinds of ways. Because we human beings constantly forget that this world is not our permanent reality. People live as if they are going to remain on this earth forever.

In contrast, Baba does not remind us again and again in His teachings that one should eat. Because already as a people we are aware that they should eat and do not forget this fact. But about the greater meaning and temporary nature of life, people regularly forget about this. Always people slip back into ignorance. For this reason, Baba brings the point again and again. Here following is one such unique teaching.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Mystery about news

One day a yaks'a approached the great King Yudhisthira. The yaks'a asked: "What is the news?"

(Note: The sense of his question was what is the real situation of this material world. So the yaks'a was not wanting to know about the weather or the stock market or any contemporary news. He was asking about the nature of life on the material plane.)

In reply king Yudhisthira told: "The material world is like a frying pan. The sun is the fire; the day and nights are the fuel. The passing seasons are the ladle to stir the food, and time is the cook. All living entities are being thus fried in this pan. This is the real news of what is happening in the material world which is a miserable place full of ignorance."

Such was Yudhisthira's colourful and insightful reply and this is yet one more way that Baba has brought this important matter that we have only come onto this earth for a short time. (2) And certainly in so many ways Baba has discussed this point including during one famous discourse in Mumbai.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Analogy of frying pan

The interesting thing about Yudhisthira's above analogy is that the yaks'a is asking, "What is the news". The yaks'a is not asking about philosophy, ethics, nature of life or anything esoteric like that. The yaks'a is asking the news, yet such was Yudhisthira's reply. Because that really is the news. Whenever people are told something that they do not know then it is news.

Due to avidya maya, people commonly forget that they are moving towards their death. They do not remember the transient nature of life on earth. People take money, prestige, beauty, attraction and all their worldly attachments to be of a permanent nature. All their plans and programs are based on this idea. They see newborns come onto this earth, but they never think that one day they will leave this world.

So Yudhisthira's reply that human beings are in a frying pan proceeding towards death is indeed news. It is just like if a coup happened years ago but just today more revelations about the coup were reported then that would be news. Or when archaeologists find new fossils, this is also news because human beings were not aware about these events. Thus the fact that slowly, slowly we are going towards death - that is also news.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

People think this place is their permanent abode. With that as their reference point, their behavior, values, logic and reasoning becomes skewed, even polluted. All of their priorities are based on the false notion that they will remain here forever and ever. And indeed most live their life in this way.

They collect material objects, pursue mundane allurements, seek out fame and fortune. They take all these fleeting things to be the essence of life. If they thought otherwise, people would keep away from vices etc. And they would do more sadhana and help others. But this is not the case. Just look around and see for yourself. Yudhisthira's teaching of thousands of years ago is as relevant today as it was then. That is why this is the news.

Conclusion

Baba's unique guideline is that we are to complete all important works (sadhana and service) very soon. There is no guarantee how long we will survive on this earth. That is why Baba says do all good works immediately because human life is short. No one decides when they will come and no one decides when they will go.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "That is, during dharma'caran, i.e. dharmic pursuits [following yama and niyama, service, svadhyaya etc] one should think that the god of death has already started pulling one’s hair – that one’s death is imminent. And accordingly one should work sincerely and vigorously; one will have to do a great many noble deeds within a short period." (3)

We have not a moment to spare. Be careful not to get caught up in the whirlpool of maya and think this world as permanent. Beware of lusting after frivolous attractions. All should bear in mind that we have come here for a limited period and we have a great many works to do. This is the main outlook of any sadhaka.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

One should think: My life is for spiritual practice and serving others, not carnal pleasures. All Baba's teachings are my food for moving on the path divine. I should not get swayed by the glitz and glamour of avidya maya. I am to remember that I am being cooked in one frying pan and moving towards my death. I utilise my energies for sadhana, not mundane allurements, then I will achieve eternal life, by His grace.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Bhakti Svarupa

~ In-depth study ~

As human beings we are to take advantage of our free will and do something great - attain Him. That is what Baba is telling us in Yudhisthira's analogy. Most of the scriptures of old are filled with thousands of pages of dogmatic teachings and one has to sift through all those things in order to find an ounce of truth. Baba has given us only the most pertinent guidelines to get success: Remembering the Goal of life is one such guideline. May we always following His teachings and never get caught up in the whirlpool of maya, thinking this world to be our permanent abode and running after fleeting fancies.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

“I have come here for a short span”

So we should pay heed to Baba's strict warning.

    Smara nitya manityatám

Ananda Marga ideology states, "You should remember always that you have come here for a short span. You won’t remain in this world for a long period. You may remain here say for ninety or hundred years or say for one hundred and fifty years. Some saints like Traelaunga Sva'mii lived here for three hundred and fifty years. He lived in Varanasi in India and died in this twentieth century. But you are to live under certain limitations – limitations of time, space and person."
"So you should always remember that you have come here for a very short span. It is just like a waiting room of a railway station. You remain there for a short period and when the train comes, you leave the waiting room. This world is just like that waiting room. You are to remain here for a very short span."
"You should always remember this fact – “I have come here for a short span and I won’t remain here for a very long period. My home is elsewhere. I am just like a tourist.” You should always remember this fact. And as a universal tourist, you, while leaving for your permanent home, won’t require a passport." (4)

One should take a moment to reflect upon how quickly time has passed since they have come on this earth - often decades and decades have passed. See how quickly people reach up to their present age. So this world is mobile and one day one will die. That could occur in the next moment or even sooner.

Life is short - should not sleep too much

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Nidrá [sleep]. A person who is given to too much sleep can never perform big things in life. A person who sleeps too long spends half of his or her lifetime in sleep only. So how will he or she find time to do noble deeds? Human life, after all, is not very long; and of that short span of life, if half is wasted on sleep only, then there will hardly be any time left for doing noble deeds. That’s why it is said, a person who is given to too much sleep can never aspire to attain the peak of progress in life. Sleep is necessary for health, but many people wrongly think that the more one sleeps, the better it is for health. That is wrong. Human beings go to sleep because they want to work more. While working for long periods the body gets tired, and then only does one take sleep, just to get back fresh energy for work." (5)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Human life, you know, is a measured one. Human beings come here for a very short span. If during this short span one tries to go through all the scriptures it will take more than one thousand years? And one is only here for approximately one hundred years. So, going along the path of jiṋána is a mere waste of existence. And karma is infinite and the human structure is a finite one, with limited stamina and limited capacity. So the path of bhakti is not only harmless, but the wisest one and is the approach of the most "cunning" people. So my advice to you all is to move along the path of bhakti. It is the best route." (6)

All reduced to dust by the ravages of time

Ananda Marga ideology states, "This quinquelemental universe is a relative truth, a changing reality, a passing phenomenon – a passing flow of constantly changing events. It rests on the three pillars of the relative factors – time, space and person. Space is always changing. It is composed of countless atoms and molecules. With the change in the movement of atoms and molecules, space also changes. That is why numerous rich and beautiful cities of the past are now buried under the earth. Many splendid palaces and mansions, many churches, temples, mosques and synagogues, and many pyramids have been reduced to rubble. With the constant change in the flow of time, how many major changes have occurred in the universe? Similarly, with the change in time and space, people also change. A small two-year old child becomes a smart and active twenty-five year old youth. And the same energetic youth becomes an infirm, inactive, old person in due course. Thus, nothing in this universe is permanent. Many gigantic animals in the past have become totally extinct from the surface of the earth. Royal pomp and opulence, the pride of power, the vast knowledge of mighty scholars have become things of the past, thrown into the dustbin of history. Many objects emerged in the past, remained on earth for a short time, and then disappeared according to the inexorable law of nature."
"The only eternal truth is Parama Puruśa. He is anadi, beginningless, endless, all-pervasive; an entity beyond the scope of time, place and person. He is the only eternal, undecaying, imperishable, immutable entity. He is the Supreme Source from which the inanimate, plant and animal worlds have emerged. He is the starting-point and the culminating point of everything. Hence, wise people should utilize their physical, psychic and spiritual power to realize that Supreme Omni-Telepathic Entity to become one with Him." (7)

The earth is like a traveller’s inn

These are the practical realities yet so many remain oblivious of this fact. In day to day life, they do not include this equation of death into their plan. When they go to the market they plan that they will be returning back home. And when a student attends university then they have a plan to one day return back home. But amazingly, when they come on this earth, then they have no plan to leave. They think and act as if they will remain here forever. This type of mentality is not the intelligent way.

https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Without this point, the whole equation is incomplete. Baba warns us to never forget that this world is anitya (ephemeral) and one day one is going to die. That time could come at any moment.

So we should not treat this world as our permanent abode. We should always keep our mind fixed on Him. And internally, we should remind ourselves again and again that we have only come here for a short time. Then and only then can we truly understand that sadhana - and not money or possessions - is the cream of life.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "People come to this world for a short time for some fun and games, and then they go. So for human beings the earth is like a traveller’s inn, where they will not stay for long. Or it might be compared to a railway waiting room, where passengers from different places come and sit together for a while. The moment the train whistle blows, they forget each other, pick up their bags, and set off for the train. They do not look to right or left. Parama Puruśa is that train, and this world is the waiting room." (8)

I was very sad

“Ghor timir ghan niviŕa nishiithe…” (Prabhat Samgiita #3202)

Purport:

My dearmost Baba, Parama Purusa, in that pitch dark and lonely night, after silently opening the doors, You came in my abode to remove my misery. I could not hear Your footsteps because I had closed the doors and windows and was lying there isolated, sad, and depressed.

Baba, in that moment, the sky was covered with dense clouds yet Your refulgent image was shining brightly in my heart. Outside there was a deadly storm as if Bhairava was dancing with his wild hair. Yet, You came to me and, within a flash, completely removed the heavy load of my pain and suffering.

Baba, all the dark clouds of sin that had accumulated in the mental sky of my citta vanished in the blink of eye with the rising of Your soft, moon-lit brilliance. All the insults and frustrations were gone forever, and my mind realised Your infinite karuna...

Wicked people: animalistic qualities

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Those creatures that pulsate in the darkness of the deep sea are blind due to the darkness; and hence by natural law, just as their bodies possess the power to radiate light, so as weapons some of them possess sensitive spines, some have glandular poison jets and some have attractive voices. With the help of these, they compensate for their lack of visual perception of form-vibrations and preserve their own existence by their subtler reception of other tanmátras or vibrations."
"The capacity of an instinctively wicked person to absorb vibration differs somewhat from that of an average person. The amount of beating that might endanger the life of average people, may be easily borne by those who are instinctively wicked. Very often they remain quite unconcerned about the bleeding that pours out of their cuts and wounds – rather they feel relieved from such bleeding. Such people can also perceive the premonitory hints of nature. In other words, in such matters their ways, to some extent, correspond to those of the sub-human creatures. Yet to attain such power even a virtuous person has to perform sádhaná or spiritual practice most diligently." (1)

Definition of mission

Ananda Marga ideology says, “Human life is a mission; life itself is a mission; one’s very existence is a mission. A’tmamoks’a'rtham’ jagaddhita’ya ca: ‘Whatever one is to do, one is to do for a’tmamoks’a– for their own liberation– and for the elevation of the entire world, elevation of the entire human society’. One is to do both of these things; that is, these two things are one’s mission.” (1)

Note: By Baba’s above teaching it is clear that the AMPS organisation is not the mission. But for certain reasons, some try to misguide or take advantage of the margiis by making them think that AMPS is the mission. But that is not correct. In His above guideline, Sadguru Baba explicitly tells us what is the mission.
