 Saldar deudas... Comprar una casa... Ahorrar para la jubilación... Ganar nombre, fama, dinero, prestigio, belleza, etc., etc. Todos estos planes y programas proliferan en la sociedad materialista de hoy.  Las personas consideran y planifican todos estos planes para su disfrute personal muchas décadas en el futuro.  Básicamente piensan que estarán en esta tierra para siempre. Ciertamente, algunos pueden decir: "Un día voy a morir", pero no hay nada en su vida que demuestre la idea de que realmente creen esto.

Toda su visión, estructura y planificación de la vida demuestran que sienten que permanecerán en esta tierra para siempre, o al menos durante tanto tiempo que no necesitan pensar en la muerte. La mayoría aspira a la riqueza material y la comodidad, el nombre y la fama, y varias ganancias temporales, pensando que esas cosas los mantendrán felices para siempre.  Y dicen que, "Cuando me jubile (a la edad de 65 años más o menos) entonces mi vida será gloriosa: tendré xxx cantidad de dinero y mucho tiempo libre". Las personas comienzan a planificar esta “era dorada” de su vida cuando tienen apenas 25 años, o incluso menos.

El futuro de aquellos que se entregan a los placeres mundanos


 Su vida gira en torno a la falsa noción de que han venido aquí para permanecer en esta tierra, como si este lugar fuera su morada eterna. No piensan que algún día se irán. Tampoco contemplan que su muerte pueda llegar tan pronto como hoy o mañana.  Esta perspectiva se está extendiendo rápidamente desde las naciones materialistas occidentales a todos los países del mundo, dondequiera que el materialismo esté de moda. Sin embargo, como sabemos, este tipo de mentalidad no es útil ya que va en contra de nuestro Ideal espiritual y las pautas del Gurú. Además invita, como mínimo, a dos deficiencias graves en el ámbito práctico.

 Hay dos defectos de carácter principales que se manifiestan cuando uno piensa en este mundo como su morada final:

 #1: Las personas no utilizan su vida para hacer obras realmente buenas que mejoren su progreso, es decir, aumenten su proximidad a Parama Purusa. No se involucran en una vida de sadhana y servicio. En su lugar, pasan su tiempo en placeres mundanos en esta tierra, yendo de un anhelo sensual al siguiente, de una indulgencia a la siguiente.

 #2: Cuando inevitablemente llega el momento de enfrentar la muerte, ya sea la propia o la de su compañero, están asustados, deprimidos, afligidos y melancólicos. Carecen por completo de la estabilidad psíquica para lidiar con este hecho básico de la vida.

La muerte de cualquiera puede llegar en cualquier momento


 Entonces, ¿qué es lo que uno debe hacer? ¿Cómo debemos vivir en esta tierra teniendo en cuenta nuestra propia mortalidad? La directriz de Baba es que siempre debemos recordar el hecho de que este mundo es jagat, es decir, móvil, temporal. Nada en esta tierra es fijo. Esta tierra es samsara: todo se está moviendo, moviéndose hacia la expiración o la muerte. Es por eso que la enseñanza de Guru es recordar que la muerte puede llegar en cualquier momento: en la niñez, en la adolescencia, como adulto joven, en cualquier momento. Nada es seguro.  Nuestro lugar en esta tierra no es permanente – en cualquier momento podemos dejar este mundo.

En un resumen en español de Subhasita Samgraha, part 11, “A Devotee's Object of Ideation”, Baba nos dice: Es decir, durante dharma’caran, es decir, actividades dhármicas [después de yama y niyama, servicio, svadhyaya, etc.] uno debe pensar que el dios de la muerte ya ha comenzado a tirar de los cabellos, que la muerte es inminente. Y en consecuencia, uno debe trabajar con sinceridad y vigor; uno tendrá que hacer muchas obras nobles en un corto período de tiempo. (resumen en español)

 Cuando una persona entiende que la muerte está potencialmente muy cerca y puede llegar en cualquier momento, atenderá primero a los asuntos más importantes. Es como si alguien estuviera planeando salir de su casa en 5 minutos, entonces se ocupará de los trabajos más importantes: tomar las llaves, cerrar la casa con llave y prepararse para salir. No desperdiciarán esos 5 minutos en actividades insignificantes. De manera similar, aquellos que saben que dejarán esta tierra pronto abordarán primero los puntos más significativos y tratarán de establecer un vínculo entre ellos y el Padre Cósmico. Intentarán complacer a Parama Purusa, y no solo perder el tiempo en placeres fugaces. Aquí nuevamente está la enseñanza de Baba acerca de cómo debemos ver todo en este mundo, incluyendo nuestra propia vida.

 En un resumen en español de Subhasita Samgraha – 21, “Niiti and Dharma”, Baba nos dice: Entonces, Smara nityamanityata’m. Nityam significa “siempre”: “Recuerda siempre la naturaleza transitoria de las cosas”.  [Anityata’m significa “lo efímero”, “lo transitorio”.]… Una cosa que nació alguna vez morirá un día… Lo que entra en el ámbito de los factores espaciales, temporales y personales nacerá y morirá. Un día tendrás que dejar este cuerpo humano


 Todo esto exige un cambio fundamental de perspectiva. En lugar de pensar que “he venido aquí por mucho, mucho tiempo”. Uno debería pensar que, “Estoy aquí por un tiempo que me ha sido prestado. Este cuerpo me ha sido dado por un tiempo limitado, un tiempo extremadamente corto, un máximo de 100 a 150 años, no miles de años”. Además, hay que tener en cuenta que pueden morir en cualquier momento y ni siquiera ver el amanecer de mañana. En ese caso, una persona se apresurará a hacer grandes cosas de inmediato y tratará de comprender su verdadera naturaleza.

 Trágicamente, la mayoría olvida que este cuerpo nos ha sido entregado en calidad de préstamo. Piensan que este cuerpo durará para siempre en esta tierra. Esto conduce al letargo y a una falsa sensación de satisfacción. Una persona comerá, beberá y se alegrará, y perderá su tiempo. Se olvidarán de que su energía y fuerza actuales no durarán.  Después de los 39 años, el cuerpo comienza a decaer. Uno perderá energía, fuerza muscular, audición, vista, etc. Además, en cualquier momento, uno puede ser sacado de esta tierra sin previo aviso. Porque este cuerpo nos ha sido cedido en préstamo.  Y solo Parama Purusa sabe por cuánto tiempo, nosotros no.

 Como sadhakas, siempre debemos ser conscientes de dos cosas: (1) Nuestra morada final está en otra parte, (2) nuestro cuerpo no durará mucho. En ese caso, utilizaremos al máximo nuestro cuerpo para alcanzar la salvación, no los placeres mundanos.  Es como si una persona fuera al mercado a comprar medicinas para su abuelo enfermo. Con ese objetivo en mente, llegarán a la farmacia, asegurarán el medicamento y regresarán rápidamente a casa con el medicamento para el abuelo.  Deliberadamente cumplirán con su deber. Por el contrario, si uno va al mercado y no recuerda su objetivo de conseguir medicamentos para el abuelo, pasará por la farmacia y en su lugar pasará horas y horas en la sala de cine, viendo una película tras otra, hasta la medianoche. Finalmente, cuando salgan de la sala de cine, caminarán hacia el mercado y encontrarán que todas las tiendas están cerradas. Al final, regresan a casa sin ningún medicamento para el abuelo.  Así que son regañados y castigados por ser tan negligentes.

 De manera similar, los humanos degradados son castigados por prakrti por olvidar su objetivo divino y, en cambio, entregarse a otros atractivos mundanos. Por desperdiciar su vida humana, son castigados y enviados deslizándose por el camino del pratisaincara negativo.


Conclusión

 Aquellos en el camino espiritual siempre recuerdan que la vida es corta.  Entienden que no tienen tiempo para mirar a la izquierda o a la derecha, es decir, para disfrutar de las fantasías mundanas. Siempre mantienen su mente enfocada al frente y al centro, es decir, “He venido aquí para servir y complacer a Parama Purusa y no tengo idea de cuánto tiempo tendré esta preciosa oportunidad. Así que todos y cada uno de mis momentos en esta tierra son para sadhana y servicio. No tengo tiempo para nada más”. Aquellos que caminan por esta tierra con este ideal en mente son verdaderamente bendecidos.

No debes correr tras espejismos – céntrate en la meta espiritual

 En un resumen en español de Subhasita Samgraha – 1, “Yajiṋa and Karmaphala”, Baba nos dice: ¡Oh, ser humano! Establécete en el resplandor de la divinidad y el esplendor del valor y la caballerosidad, porque el tuyo es el camino de la revolución. Tu camino no es el camino de la precaución adicional y el movimiento programado. Tú eres el viajero. De un camino escabroso. Ustedes son viajeros de un camino inexpugnable. Tienen que marchar orgullosos con la bandera del Marga erguida. No tienen tiempo para tambalear ni para mirar atrás.  (resumen en español)

 En un resumen en español de Subháśita Saḿgraha Part 1, “Prakrti Tattva and Oṋḿkára Tattva”, Baba nos dice: Oh, seres humanos, avancen en el camino de el oṋḿkára hacia la sutileza. No corran tras el espejismo superficialmente placentero, dominado por tamoguńa. Establézcanse en sattvaguńa y luego fúndanse en Brahma. Alcancen el lugar de donde ha surgido el oṋḿkára. Despierta tu dinamismo dormido a través de la sádhaná y la devoción. Realiza la elevación mental de la divinidad y fusiona esto en la corriente interminable de la misericordia divina.  (resumen en español)

It is with much sadness that we share the news of the mahaprayan of Ac Sevavratananda Avt. The sequence of events that led to Dadaji's tragic mahaprayan began on 22 Dec when he contracted chicken pox. For the next ten days or so Dada ji's health gradually improved, and then it took a severe turn for the worse on 3 January when Dada ji experienced partial organ failure, amongst other complications. Dada ji was admitted to the ICU as the chicken pox virus attacked his nervous system. Finally, his body could not withstand, and Dada ji underwent his mahaprayan. 

Ac 
Sevavratananda was a sincere and kind-hearted worker who entered organisational life in 1993. Most recently he was posted within the Kolkata administration as chief secretary (Delhi sector) of Seva Dharma Mission. Dada ji was very keen and diligent in his organisational duties and service work. Many were inspired by his example and gentle nature. Dada ji was also known for leading melodious kiirtana which so many enjoyed. Verily, Dada ji will be missed by countless margiis, Wts, and those whom he touched. 

May we all take solace in the fact that Dada Sevavratananda ji was a bhakta of Sadguru Baba. Certainly he will attain mukti or moksa, accordingly. Baba will lovingly bestow His infinite grace.

Note: Here is an alert for those cremating a dead body in India or Indian managed cremation homes around the world. Their custom is to put the fire in the mouth of the deceased to initiate the burning of the body. This is prohibited in AM as it is uncivilised. So watch out; do not allow this. If you are not careful, they will end up cremating the body in this manner. Make them aware ahead of time. 

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The practice of putting fire into the mouth of the dead body is repulsive, it should not be encouraged." (Caryacarya - 1, Disposal of the Dead Body)


~ In-depth study ~

We have seen that when somebody dies then in offering their condolences people say now Mr So-and-so is sitting on Baba's lap. On other occasions when telling a Baba story people also say, "Such and such person sat on Baba's lap." But these days the trend is that "sitting on Baba's lap" is used more in connection with death. And that causes some confusion in the minds of readers. To unknot the situation please read below. 

Dogma: if "on Baba's lap" only used for death

Here are quoted lines from recently posted emails on various forums, wherein the writer uses the phrase - "in Baba's lap" - with the occasion of death:

- "May Parama Purusa Baba accept her in HIS divine lap"

- "We pray to Baba - please give him shelter in his lap... "

- "May his soul rest in the lap of our beloved BABA"

- "Now she is taking rest in Baba's Lap."

- "May Baba accept him in HIS divine lap....."

- "May he rest in HIS loving lap of eternity."

- "We are sure that Baba has taken him in His loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in Baba's lap forever."

- "Let her rest peacefully in Baba's Lap - which she always desired."

- "now he is in beloved Baba's lap"

- "May his soul get peaceful place in His lap"

- "He is now in Bábá's loving lap"

- "May Baba bless him with a seat in His lap."

- "May BABA accept him in HIS divine lap!"

- "May Baba take him in his eternal loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in peace taking shelter in Baba's lap."

- "Please keep him on Your lap forever."

- "We all collectively pray to Baba to take him on Baba's divine lap forever.”

All of the above lines are commonly written in eulogizing the deceased. These days mostly it is used in a eulogy and rarely used to recount one's intimate spiritual experiences - unfortunately. By this way, the phrase "in Baba's lap" is being misused, and step by step the real meaning is being forgotten as now people more commonly use the phrase to eulogize those who have died, and much less so to express their inner feelings of bhakti. Unfortunately, the meaning and inner spirit of the phrase is getting lost.


Baba story: "sitting on Baba's lap"

Some time ago after dharmacakra, a senior margii was recounting his experiences of having dharma samiiksa with Baba. He said, "After being lovingly scolded by Baba for my wrongdoings, then He called me close and placed me on His lap - I remained there for some time soaking up His love - and He blessed me."

We all enjoyed hearing about his personal account with Baba during dharma samiiksa. When he finished telling his factual and historical event, there was a call for questions. Various people posed their queries. Towards the end, one new margii raised his hand and asked, "How did Baba bring you back to life?"

Everyone stared at the new margii in amazement. There was a look of astonishment all around - people were really shocked to hear him say this. The new sadhaka sensed that something was wrong, and he said very matter-of-factly, "I thought that sitting on Baba's Lap means that he (the margii) died - that is why I asked that question."

This was quite eye-opening for those of us in the room: Through our language and expression we had unknowingly taught someone to think that being on Baba's lap is the equivalent of death. Because it seems that nowadays people only use the phrase "Baba's lap" when a person has died, such as "Let him rest peacefully in Baba's lap", as if in order to sit on Baba’s lap one has to die. But that is false. Sincere sadhakas regularly sit on Baba’s lap in their meditation. It is His grace. It is just like how a child need not die in order to sit on his father’s lap.

The idea is that this phrase - Baba's lap - has been linked with death due to extreme overuse. So for some time if sadhakas use this phrase exclusively for spiritual purposes, that will be best. The phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", should not meet a similar fate. It should not lose its pure spiritual quality and just refer to one's death. That will be very negative.

Baba would bless bhaktas and place them on His lap


There are tens of thousands of recorded stories by sadhakas where they use the phrase, "on Baba's lap", when describing their experiences of being with Baba: He used to bless them and bring them on His lap. People should understand the deeply mystical value of this expression, and not just think that Baba's lap means death, i.e. that you can only sit on His lap at the time of death. Still today there are thousands of margiis walking this earth who sat in Baba's lap. And not only that, there are countless more sadhakas who were blessed by Baba in dreams and sadhana wherein they sat in His lap. And still today this deeply intimate experience is attainable by sadhakas, by His grace.

There are so many ways an aspirant can reach unto Baba's lap including in sadhana. That is the main idea that should be preserved. Sadhana is a spiritual practice and one can sit on Baba's lap in sadhana. We should make it cent-per-cent clear to one and all that the phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", does not mean death.

"Mahaprayan" means death of mortals - confirm for yourself
from the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary


Mahaprayan (Death): Many are aware that mahaprayan (death) is the common term used in India and especially in our Bengal to describe the death of any human being, even ordinary people. In that way, the obituary columns of the newspapers of Bengal regularly cite the mahaprayan (death) of various persons of society who died or passed away.

Some may get confused and wrongly think that the word 'mahaprayan' (death) is one extraordinarily grand term of bhakti to be used in association with Parama Purusa. But that is not at all the case. Rather to do so is only to undermine the eternal presence of Parama Purusa. That is why no bhaktas ever use the word 'mahaprayan' in reference to Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna. Because Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna exist eternally. Then there is no question of Their mahaprayan (death).

Baba is Parama Purusa so He is eternal and there is no question of His mahaprayan.

Here it should be known that the convention of an annual death day ceremony (i.e. shraddhainjali or mahaprayan) is a foundation of the Islamic tradition. Muslims are well known for this, and their approach of an annual death day ceremony was adopted by the leader of a particular group in AMPS. So no one should think that mahaprayan is some type of sacred event. It is done on the death day anniversary of Muslims.

And for those who need still more technical proof then all this can be clarified quite readily by referencing the dictionary. Specifically in the Samsad Bengali-English dictionary 3rd edition on page 848. By checking there, it will be confirmed that the word 'mahaprayan' means death. Which is why it is used to refer to the passing away of even common citizens. And that is the case in this letter also. The term mahaprayan means death, and this is the ideal term for this purpose.

Mahaprayan is only for humans not for Sadguru


Here it should be qualified that there is both a real mahaprayan and fake mahaprayan. Real mahaprayan marks the death of any ordinary human being, just like the aforesaid news. This is the proper use of the term: To note a person's departure from this earth. That is the meaning of the mahaprayan term and that is the standard way the term is used in Indian languages.

Then there is the fake, or so-called, or dogmatic mahaprayan. That is when certain vested interests try to apply the mahaprayan term to Parama Purusa. This is grossly inappropriate because when Parama Purusa Sadguru Baba is that Divine Entity who is beginningless and endless and resides always in our heart, then it is entirely wrong to proclaim that He is gone.

That is why rational margiis are protesting; because the Oct 21st program is so-called mahaprayan. So-called means that something is fake. Parama Purusa is eternal, thus for some vested interests to declare "mahaprayan of Parama Purusa" is nothing but so-called mahaprayan.

Mahaprayan only really happens in the case of human beings, not Parama Purusa. Those doing mahaprayan for Sadguru are hypocrites. On the one side in meditation they ask His grace thinking that He is ever-present, and on the other side they think that Baba has passed away. That is their hypocrisy.
