Sexual issues: solutions #2 + 3 more

Sexual issues: solutions #2

Namaskar,

Long, long back, amongst those primitive human beings of 25,000 years ago, no one was wearing any dress. Society was essentially dressless. And when their sex glands were active, women used to come closer to men, and when the glands were inactive then they did not desire to go close. Similar activities we see also in animals.

But nowadays, clothes are available to cover the body. And clothing for women is designed in such a way that a significant portion of the body is exposed and the overall sizing is made in a very scanty manner. The mini-dresses & mini-skirts etc are made to show the secret parts of the body. Materialists impose the overt and subliminal message that small sizing is a symbol of style and prestige. Women do get indoctrinated into such notions and run after buying and wearing such scanty dresses. As a result men get attracted towards women and may even attack them to fulfill their sexual desires. In today’s society we have to understand how materialists increase the rate of sexual violence against women happen.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Why shorter dress for women but not for men?

In our Ananda Marga system, according to Baba, when women are out and about in society then they should dress in a respectable manner.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “While going out of their house, women should wear simple and decent clothes and cover their bodies properly.” (1)

Unfortunately, in today’s materialistic society women are encouraged to roam the streets with their secret parts uncovered. Even in formal professional attire, women’s fashion is designed to highlight their curves and bare skin. Whereas men cannot enter a professional environment with maximum skin showing - they would be sent home or even lose their job. But a similar standard does not apply for women. Women should understand that these type of rules are set by men to make women vulnerable and seen as sexual objects. No matter how many men are arrested by police for sexual violence, as long as such rules exists sexual crimes will keep happening. Because merely accosting the perpetrators will not solve the problem. Instead proper education and social norms should be imparted, and the mind should be trained appropriately on what is right and what is wrong.

Short dress: recipe for inducing sexual violence

Sex vrittis (instincts) are higher in men than women. Influenced by fashion or becoming tools of the male-dominated society and diverted from human dharma, women wear short scanty dresses to show more of the body and highlight and even expose their private parts etc. By seeing this, men get attracted towards women, their sex glands become more active, and they cannot control themselves. Not only that, women and men get together these days, but they go to dance parties, drink alcohol, meet at private places, etc. As a result, sex violence is rampant, women are harmed and violated, and the men are found guilty and subjected to punishment. But such types of punishment is not the permanent solution, as the root cause is not being treated. The real solution is teaching and training men how to control the mind. Unfortunately up till now, since the root cause is not treated, violence happens time and again.

Women viewed as objects for enjoyment

In today’s materialistic society, women are viewed as sexual objects. That is how the society is portraying women and that is how scanty dresses are designed, and rules are created. Viewing women as sex objects is not a high ideal of a human being. No matter how strong is the punishment given, the number of men involved in sex violence will not decrease. As punishment is not the only ideal solution for transforming a human being. For example, in the United States severe punishment rules are in place for anyone who is involved in sex violence. Names are included in sex registry when they are found to be involved in sex violence. And it is a very serious, life-altering offense. Even though such rules are in place, sexual violence in the US is on the rise.

Dress code for women and men

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us that both men and women should dress properly. Neither males nor females should be involved in indecent exposure. Nor should men and women should not spend time in idle gossiping, and baseless talks. Men should have men friends, and women should have women friends.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “They [men and women] should not engage in gossip as its results are not beneficial. It should be remembered that a woman’s friend is a woman and a man’s friend is a man.” (2)

But today’s school system and social environment, the concept of boyfriend and girlfriend are visible in all levels of schooling, even in primary schools. Socially, for children, having a close relationship with the opposite sex, i.e. having a boyfriend or girlfriend, is a matter of prestige. Side by side, without looking into the root of the problem, people complain that sexual violence against women is rampant. What they fail to realise is that the current social milieu is a breeding ground for sexual crimes. Sadly, all the ingredient are present for women to be sexually violated and harmed.

Solution: Controlling sensory organs

People should be taught (a) about their vrttis (instincts), (b) why the glands and organs get allured towards sensuality, (c) how to control those tendencies, and (d) how to channelize them in a proper direction. Curriculum should be developed in classes, and people can be educated in how to control vrittis (instincts).

The dress code should be based on sentient expression where both males and females dress in a comfortable, modest manner according to the climate, where they are covered from the neck down to the feet. That can help in reducing sexual violence against women. Education along with a dress code are important aspects of the solution, along with the idea that men should interact with men and women should interact with women. If proper rules and regulations are not in place, sex violence will increase. Side by side there will be public protests against such crimes but the solution will remain out of reach.

Yes, attraction for the opposite sex is a natural phenomenon of this creation. If men and women will not interact then there will not be any newborns. But unnecessary mixing, treating females as sexual objects, and poor social values (i.e. loose talk, dance parties, alcohol drinking etc.) leads to sexual violence and that should be stopped.

And the permanent solution is guiding people how to redirect their vrttis (instincts) towards the more subtle realm, redefining the current materialistic relationship between men and women, and implementing stricter social codes etc. Social punishment, jail sentences, and the threat of imprisonment are not enough to curb or solve the problem.

I visited a unique place

“Ek svapaner deshe ámi,máyá bhará jochanáy…” (Prabhat Samgiita #1455)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, I was in a dreamland - engulfed in the enchanting full moonlight. All alone, in seclusion, I was singing for You alone. I longed for Your proximity.

Baba, in that spiritual magical land, no one goes hungry or dies of starvation. There is no flow or presence of ignorance, dogma, or superstition; nor is there any wave of isms or staticity. In that land of humanism, all have a loving relation with other humans and hold deep regard for every living being. They look upon one another as being part of the same universal family; they do not attack, assault, or kill innocent human beings or animals etc. They do not destroy each other or allow the river of blood to spill by committing genocide.

O' my Eternal Bandhu, in that golden world, the human intellect is not obscured by dogma. Logic and rationality are embraced, and the realm of intuition is cultivated. I was there in that dreamland amidst the enchanting moonlight where no one suppresses others under the darkness of arrogance. And there is no harassment due to the disease of ego and vanity; rather, that society is free of exploitation. That was the land of neo-humanism which I visited in my dream.

Baba, I was with You in that enchanting, full moon-lit world of bliss...

Now is the time for asanas & pranayama

Ananda Marga ideology guides, "Our social code provides clear guidelines on how members will adapt to this modern, rapidly changing world. There have been more changes in the past 200 years than in the 800 years prior to that. In education, culture, dress and food habits major changes have taken place. Old, outdated wooden shoes, turbans, etc. have been replaced by modern shoes, hats and clothes made from scientific fabrics with contemporary designs. Primitive bullock carts, horse-drawn carriages, hackney coaches, etc., have been replaced with fast-moving cars, trains, and aeroplanes. In the past, people used to travel by elephant, but now they can travel to other planets by rocket. There should be a proper adjustment between the body and the mind to keep pace with the fast speed of the development in the world. For this reason, Ananda Marga spiritual practices place much importance on ásanas, práńáyáma, etc.” (1)

Distortion in Ánanda Sútram + 3 more

Baba

Distortion in Ánanda Sútram

Namaskar,

Ánanda Sútram was not originally given by Sadguru Baba in Bengali. Yet many naive people are confused about this.

Sútra given in Saḿskrta

Here are some important points about how Ánanda Sútram was given. As Ananda Margiis, this is something we should all be aware about as Ananda Sutram stands as our philosophical treatise. In the very early days of AMPS, Bábá graciously delivered the sutras that comprise Ánanda Sútram. He dictated each sútra in Saḿskrta (Sanskrit), and then side by side He gave the purport of each sútra in Bengali. These two components are the source material for all other language editions of Ánanda Sútram.

Over the years, some have wrongly proclaimed that Ánanda Sútram is originally from Bengali - but upon a more careful review we can rationally understand that Ánanda Sútram is a Saḿskrta (Sanskrit) text.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Sútra is main item

In its entirety, there are 85 sútras in Ánanda Sútram and each one of those sútras has been given in Saḿskrta; and that is what Ánanda Sútram is: The Saḿskrta sútras. With a keen eye, we can understand that Ánanda Sútram is Saḿskrta. Because the main component of Ánanda Sútram is the sútras - and those sútras have been given in Saḿskrta. Plus the title itself is Saḿskrta (Sanskrit).

In the past, various rśis (rishis) also wrote Saḿskrta sútras - such as Patanjali's Yoga Sútras etc; but those rśis did not put forth any purport. Years later, scholars wrote their own purports of the various sútras given by those rśis of old; but those purports were not accurate. They did not properly depict what those old rśis wanted to convey in their original sútras. In result, so many aspirants  and students were led astray by these faulty purports.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Why purport was needed

To prevent such problems from ever happening with Ánanda Sútram, Bábá Himself has graciously given both the sútra and the purport. This has left no scope for others to misinterpret His given sútras. The point being Ánanda Sútram is the original 85 sútras - and those are all Saḿskrta. And Bábá has given the explanation of those sútras in Bangla (Bengali).

Uninformed people and also some interest groups repeat again and again that Ánanda Sútram is Bengali, but they just have their own agenda. They are not concerned with the truth. By loudly stating again and again - "Ánanda Sútram is Bengali" - they hope to convince and befool others. But this is nothing but their tactic of Bengalization, i.e. placing Bengali on top at the expense of other languages.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion: it is a Saḿskrta text

By all this, every Ananda Margii can readily understand that Ánanda Sútram is a Saḿskrta text. Ánanda Sútram is Saḿskrta because Ánanda Sútram refers to the sútras, not the purports. And all the sútras have been given by Sadguru Baba in Saḿskrta (Sanskrit). And the title of the book is also Saḿskrta. It is only because the Saḿskrta language does not have its own script that the sútras were written in Shriiharśa (Bengali) script. The conclusion is that Ánanda Sútram is originally a Saḿskrta text.

How negative samadhi is destructive

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "By the way you should know that samádhi does not only occur as a result of a certain realization; other samádhis can occur on indriyas or the five fundamental factors. When the mind is focused on a particular object and becomes intensely concentrated it is called samádhi. According to spiritual science the samádhi attained when the entire mind is pin-pointed on Parama Puruśa is called prajiṋá samádhi."
"When a sádhaka focuses his or her mind on the solid factor (solid is one of the five fundamental factors) and thinks “I am the earth” he or she attains kśitibhaetik samádhi, losing all practical intelligence in the process. Those who constantly think about rupees or dollars attain a kind of samádhi, too, for they become completely identified with their crude object of attraction. If such people incur heavy losses due to the collapse of their business or bank, they will die an instant death, for the pillars on which their life was built crumbled beneath them. So, once they lost their wealth, they lost their lives too." (1)

Story of my own cousin

Note: Tragically, my own cousin experienced this type of negative samadhi. During the economic downturn in 2009, he became very worried about his finances. He had an inheritance of 20 million dollars and he thought he was going to lose it all. He experienced a very strange, deep, dark depression and feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.

Finally, his mind just stopped - and he sat there frozen - completely fixated on the prospect of losing all his money. He sat in a comatose state completely engrossed in thoughts about losing money - everything else in his mind vanished. It was just money, money, money. He skipped his food, ignored natural call, and sat in one spot all day long for almost 1 week. He did not die, but he came very close to death. When at last he emerged from this state, he was totally unaware about what had happened. It was as if he had been in a vacuum.

Baba's warning is that mundane things like money or wealth should never be one's object of ideation. Worldly things are by definition transient. They slip away. And when that happens, people become shocked, even negative samadhi. This becomes very serious for those who were very attached with those objects. They will fall into a state of terrible misery, and perhaps even death.

Best is to goad and point the mind to Parama Purusa. Because if one is fixated on the mundane and prone to that negative type of samadhi then one may remain depressed or even resort to suicide…

Sudhiindra

Libertine life

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Just as the living world is divided into two categories – those who live in groups and those who live alone – similarly regarding family life, all creatures are divided into two broad classes: creatures with family ties (for example, elephants, lions and pigeons) and those without any family ties (for instance, tigers, dogs, cats, goats, etc.).” (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “At the beginning of evolution, humans used to lead libertine lives without any consideration for family obligations, but they gradually developed a family instinct. However, that family instinct was no different from that of the elephants, lions, pigeons, etc. Due to this inborn instinct, males and females arrived at a loose but workable compromise regarding family life. But in that there was no sense of responsibility born out of a developed conscience; rather, due to their loose relationships with each other, one person used to desert another and go anywhere he or she liked. The number of such libertines was very high, and they used to disturb the peace and harmony of the so-called family members and become the cause of many serious quarrels.” (2)
