No falsehood? + 3 more

Baba

No falsehood?

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Preach only satya. Whatever you have done with reasons thereof. Also, make it clear to them what you want to do and why you want to do.  The result of this highly useful (helpful) preaching is that the inferiority complex disappears from the mind of the common men. They are encouraged when they see that a common man like themselves is inspired with such a high ideal. The second result of this is as follows. The common result of this is as follows. The common people are not generally aware of your usefully high ideas. In every work, big or small, they cling to selfishness. So, learning everything pure and high through your easy and simple language they will co-operate with you, with a mind free from wrong notions. The third outcome of this is that they will be shorn off the wrong notions that may have crept into them by the propaganda made by the selfish persons with vested interests."

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Win over their heart by propagating satya but without abusing anyone. When, they will feel the ideal of satya and come to know of your untiring karma sa'dhana', naturally, they will abandon their wrong notions about you; they will even start respecting you."

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Even in private life when a person behaves with you badly or uses harsh words, don't behave with him in the same manner. You shall explain to him his duties gently. In case, anyone has a wrong impression, you shall show him the right path without scolding (abusing) him. Make it clear to him if possible with practical demonstration how harmful may be the effect of such habits. But always keep this in mind that in such cases your behavior must be like that of a friend, and never like that of an instructor. Your only object will be to get your advice accepted by him. the idea that he is fool and you are wise is not desirable in any party." (1)

Pracara tips

Note: Here Baba is giving us invaluable guidelines for going pracara and bringing all onto the path of bliss.

1) At all times we should follow the code of satya - i. speaking the truth for universal welfare, never giving way to falsehood out of self-interest.

2) Those suffering from a superiority complex are unable to properly guide or teach others. For them, doing Ananda Marga pracar is basically impossible.

3) However, in the Supreme Command, Baba has allotted us the special duty "to bring all to the path of bliss" - to bring all to the divine path of Ananda Marga. So this is a very sacred task which our Guru has given. Indeed it is the greatest social duty of human life.

4) When Parama Purusa takes advent on this dusty earth then He does not waste His time in any type of material pursuit; rather, He is fully dedicated to the all-round progress and emancipation of human beings.

5) The conclusion is that the most virtuous aspect of human life is serving others. And the best service - the most lasting service - is doing dharma pracar. For this reason we should sincerely follow Baba's above guideline.

in Him,
Mayadhiisha

We cannot allow our fellow human beings to be divided

"Ma'nav sama'j avibha'jy jayga'n..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0880)

Purport:

Human society is one and indivisible - collectively we have to express this glorious ideal through song, dance, and music. We cannot allow our fellow human beings to be divided. We have to propagate the idea that all humans are one. O' my brothers and sisters, we have to march ahead and form a united human society without delay. We have to tread onwards crushing all sorts of thorns that hinder our plan and program of forming one vast human family. Those obstacles are like spikes and must be destroyed. A singular human society should be established. We have to sing His glory.

All human beings are my brothers and sisters - my own close and very intimate ones. No one is far or distant. Everyone is my kith and kin, nearest and dearest. If all human beings are moving collectively in one flow then Parama Purusa always remains with them. And He is ever-gracious. When human beings are fragmented they go far from Parama Purusa. If everyone is moving together towards Him in unison then this dusty earth will be turned into one golden paradise.

In the past we got swept away in the dogma of groupism - giving way to disparities and differences. We kept other human beings, our brothers and sisters, distant and far away - thinking that they belonged to another group. This was our ignorance. We fell into the dogma of narrow-mindedness. We degenerated into a dungeon of fissiparous tendencies - drifting far away from Baba's divine teachings of neo-humanism.

Today, by His grace, I have overcome my ignorance and illusion. Now I am working tirelessly for everybody's attainment of perfect peace. We have to raise the slogan of one human society; our collective humanity is one and indivisible. We are to sing the glory of Parama Purusa as our Cosmic Father...

Islamic mazar worship in AMPS + 3 more

Reply to: anandamargauniversal1@yogasamsthanam.net

Baba

Islamic mazar worship in AMPS
Namaskar,

The below photo depicts the scene at an Islamic tomb worship ceremony. And similar things are going on annually in our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha (AMPS) at the Tiljala (Kolkata) headquarters - continue reading or scroll down to see the scene in Tiljala. As you may know, Islam has been doing this type of tomb (mazar) worship since the 14th century. And this letter examines how the Islamic tomb / mazar worship compares to what is going on in Tiljala’s annual death ceremony / tomb worship program.

Now let’s look more closely at the below photo. In the Islamic tradition there is a maqbara - i.e. a domed memorial building for the deceased (see below photo). The round, domed building in the background which houses the tomb (mazar) is the maqbara. Already Islamic followers have filled that domed maqbara building and they are encircling the tomb / mazar. Hoards of people have come out for this grand Islamic tomb worship gathering. And if you see the below maqbara you will note that it is so full that there is an overflow of attendees. These Muslim worshipers cannot fit inside the tomb because it is so crowded so they are performing their annual mahaprayan (urs) / annual death ceremony outside the maqbara.

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship in Ajmer

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship in Ajmer

Once again, in the above photo, Islamic followers have filled that domed maqbara building and they are encircling the tomb / mazar. These Muslim worshipers cannot fit inside the tomb because it is so crowded so they are performing their annual mahaprayan (urs) / annual death ceremony outside the maqbara.

Same dogma on a grander scale in Tiljala

Now look here at the scene in our AMPS at Tiljala whereby after 1990 the mahaprayan / annual death day / tomb worship started. See how the followers of so-called mahaprayan are encircling the tomb in the Memorial. The five-pointed pratik is raised off the ground and on top is the actual tomb / mahasamadhi.

So each year for the mahaprayan function, the AMPS / Tiljala organisers use this mahasamadhi / tomb as the focal point of the program. It is veritably tomb worship or idol worship. And the mahaprayan organisers treat this as a holy place where one can seek boons etc. In this way, they call everyone to Tiljala because they feel Tiljala is the the epicenter, i.e. only place to perform mahaprayan.

So the Tiljala AMPS mahaprayan function is a replica of the annual death day dogma / tomb worship, as done in Islam. Tiljala stands as a place of dogmatic pilgrimage (tiirtha) and at the center of it all is one tomb. Those mahaprayan organisers feel the deceased is gone and all that is left is to ask for boons etc. By sight anyone can understand that the below scene is a carbon copy of Islamic death day worship.

Once again, by the above photo it is clear that the AMPS Tiljala organisers use this mahasamadhi / tomb as the focal point of the program. They call everyone to Tiljala as they feel Tiljala is the the only place to perform mahaprayan, and at the center of it all is one tomb. By sight anyone can understand that the above scene in AMPS (Kolkata) is a carbon copy of Islamic annual death day / tomb (mazar) worship.

In this next photo below, we find three Islamic tomb (mazar) worshipers as they ask for gifts and mundane boons from their deceased friends and relatives. This is their regular custom and tradition and it is this Islamic tomb (mazar) worship dogma which is the basis and inspiration for the annual mahaprayan / tomb worship program in Tiljala.

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship

Islamic Tomb/ mazar worship

So in the above photo those Islamic worshipers are involved in tomb worship where they ask for gifts and mundane boons from their deceased friends and relatives. And now that same Islamic tradition is being carried on by Tiljala at their annual tomb worship / mahaprayan gathering.
Thousands of Baba's discourses,
but nowhere will you find instructions for Mahaprayan

It is unfortunate that despite Almighty Baba's warnings about dogmatic ways of worshiping Him, now His own so-called disciples are doing the very things He warned against. All His divine teachings of sadhana have been pushed aside and in place of that tomb worship has started.

In our AMPS, reverence to Baba means following His guidelines - not dogmatic religious guidelines in the name of Baba. Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji has given thousands of discourses, but nowhere will you find instructions for observing so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship as it is going on now. Only in Islamic traditions can you find such guideline where they worship the tomb (mazar) of the deceased.

As sincere bhaktas of Baba we should follow all the sadhana lessons and meditate on Him, and study His spiritual teachings given in Subhasita Samgraha etc. We must not follow the dogma of Islam.

Conclusion

Here below Caryacarya gives an explicit period of time for mourning - i.e. 12 days. The annual mahaprayan dogma is in clear violation of this rule.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The period of mourning should not extend beyond twelve days." (1)

Baba today You have come to me, seeing You I am speechless

"Tumi esecho bha'lo besecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2435)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, You have come to me, poured Your affection, and made me Yours. You have spread Your sweet smile, and captivated and dyed my mind in Your sublime colour. Baba, You have made me Your own.

O’ Parama Purusa, my continued waiting for Your footsteps, my counting the time for Your arrival, my passing the moment in decorating for Your reception - in all my various chores You have poured and drenched me with spiritual nectar. My every second passes in repeating my mantra in Your memory, in waiting for Your auspicious arrival. You have drenched the sweetness into flower buds as well.

O’ my Eternal Companion, there is now nothing that I desire from You; You have given everything. You have come in my dhyana. I am meditating on You all the time 24 hrs. By Your infinite compassion I feel Your presence in anudhyana and sadhana. That is why I am forever for You. Baba, You have appeared in my heart in a very intimate, new, and newer bha’va, i.e. madhur bha’va. It is Your karun’a’.

O Prabhu, You have made my mind colourless. I cannot ever forget You. Always I am thinking about Your charm. O’ Ever-Present Entity Baba, I feel deep inside my heart that You love me and that You care for me in all the ways - always watching for my welfare. What more do I need than that….

Operative factor for meaningful donation

According to Ananda Marga philosophy, the value of any donation is based on the degree of sacrifice involved. If one has great heart-felt feeling for a particular cause and is willing to do anything and everything to help those suffering people, then his offering will be very meaningful and of great value. Even if he can only afford to give a few rupees, his donation will be very significant. In contrast, if a wealthy millionaire cares little for suffering humanity and undergoes no trouble by donating RS100,000 then his donation will pale in comparison to the generosity of the poor person who gave a few rupees.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The charity of a few paise of the poor has the same value as a thousand rupees from a millionaire. Indeed the charity of those few paise is greater." (1)

Story of wealth & fall

Reply to: anandamargauniversal1@yogasamsthanam.net

Baba

Story of wealth & fall

Namaskar,

https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here below is an English summary of Baba’s above Hindi teaching:

Do you know that there is a pact between wealth and sin. Wherever there is the gunk of sin, immediately the goddess of wealth wants to live there. In contrast, wherever honesty and simplicity and pure intellect, the goddess of wealth walks away. So every spiritual aspirant should remember poverty is the sign of sadhuta (sadhu-ness).

If you get a lot of wealth you should be concerned and alert, and ask yourself, “Why is the goddess of wealth coming and sheltering here? Am I committing some type of sin? Why is Laksmii coming here in my dwelling?” (2)

Margii family degeneration due to wealth: Case study

Ac Simple ji is a very senior Acarya. His two Bahu (daughters-in-law) lead a western life. They are members of a ladies group of non-margiis (millionaire). Their group every month arranges "Kitty party" and dances on western music till midnight 1 am or more late. Sometimes these ladies visit jointly Goa, etc cities without their husbands. Ac Simple ji's eldest son Mr. Meditator's wife is from non margii family. She enjoys all types of non-margii lifestyle of millionaire. They have only one kid.

https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Mr. Meditator fully supports his wife. Mr. Meditator and his wife are very egoistic and have vanity that they are crore pati (millionaire). They mostly do not attend DC, kiirtan, any AM programme. When Ac. Simple’ji visits them in the big metropolis, then Mr. Meditator & the other son Mr. Intellect attend at least one DC, just to show their father Ac Simple ji.

In the past Ac Simple ji 2nd son Mr. Intellect invited all for Griha Pravesh of their new but altra costly flat (home). Few years back Ac Simple’s 1st son Mr. Meditator invited all for Griha Pravesh for their new costly house.

After seeing lifestyle of eldest daughter in law, 2nd son Mr. Intellect's wife also joined some other non-margii kitty party group. In competition, she also enjoys the same western lifestyle. Mr. Intellect's wife is the daughter of Ac Moon’ ji of Ranchi.

My understanding is that Ac Simple ji spent entire life in poverty but sincerely worked for Ananda Marga. After 1991, AMPS helped his family and got the two sons admitted in Engineering and MBA courses. Both sons got good jobs and became rich. And then lifestyle changed. Either Ac Simple ji might have wished for rich lives for his sons, or his sons might have wished for rich lifestyle. Parama Puruśa Baba fulfilled their wishes and walked out of their houses.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Where there is over-accumulation of physical wealth several problems occur. Human beings do not have many needs. Primarily they need satisfying meals and clothing, according to their necessities. Most people do not even want many things.” (3)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The desire to accumulate money is actually a mental disease. The accumulators of  [wealth] do not accumulate to fulfil their basic needs a human needs are few…where there is over-accumulation [wealth] people tend to misutilize wealth by indulging in their baser propensities rather than their finer ones. Therefore you will mark, as I am making it crystal-clear to you, that…most of the aristocrats and wealthy people of today who have nothing to do are generally wicked and mean-minded...When we have to judge, we must be frank.” (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Over-accumulated physical [wealth]...is the second cause for becoming a sinner. I have already discussed the problems of the “have's” [wealthy], and the “have-nots” [poor]. To satisfy the greed of the have's [wealthy], the have-not's [poor] become slaves, and to appease their own hunger they [the poor] become sinners. The have's mis-utilize the intellectual and physical wealth of the have-not's to satisfy their [wealthy] baser propensities. In the background sit the big capitalists; in the foreground, as their agents, are half-naked children! This is the cause of the downfall of society.” (5)

The sole way to unify AMPS + 3 more

Reply to: anandamargauniversal1@yogasamsthanam.net

Baba

The sole way to unify AMPS

Namaskar,

The state of the organisation has changed dramatically from 1991 to today. One of the most concerning issues is the widening division between the various groups. Back in 1991, the differences were based exclusively on power and control; unfortunately, the divide has since deepened wherein now there are fundamental differences in the dogmas of the various groups.

Should this trend continue, the groups in our AMPS will be no different from those negative tribal groups whose internal divides are so seismic that there is no hope of their ever becoming whole again. We should check our current situation and work towards ideological unity, lest our problems worsen. I am not a pessimist rather an optimist.

How ideology became secondary

First we should review Baba's important guideline.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "A study of history will make it clear that a strong and healthy society has not yet evolved on this planet. This is mainly due to the inadequate propagation of an ideology. Although at different times a few people thought of establishing a strong and healthy society, they used argument and debate instead of deliberation and reason to convince others of the need for such a society, and ultimately ended up projecting themselves instead of the ideology. Thus the ideology became secondary and was ultimately swept away because people started worshipping them as mahátmas [elevated souls] or mahápuruśas [spiritual beings]. Due to the absence of an ideology a strong society could not be established, and many defects crept into individual life." (1)

Here mahátmas refers to PP Dada being projected as God before margiis. Unfortunately, this is what what we have witnessed in AMPS in this post-1990 period. Group leaders and PP Dada were highlighted and revered - not ideology, not Baba's divine teachings. They created stories and guidelines based on myth, not ideology. Thus, in various ways ideology was compromised and that is the root cause of the current problems. Keeping this in mind, please read the following.

History: exploitation & disunity - 1

Essentially, since 1991, the situation has gotten progressively worse. By the mid and later part of the 1990s, clear-cut lines were drawn between the various groups. To recruit members and attract attendees, the fight moved into the "group doctrine or dirty group dogma" stratum. The struggle for power mushroomed into the realm of philosophy.

To draw attendees, one team began propagating Kolkata as the epicenter and laid claim that Tiljala was a veritable tiirtha - place of pilgrimage. They repeated over and over again that Tiljala is the key place and this is the way to get Guru's grace. Going to some other place or tiirtha has no benefit. Our Tiljala is the best one - others are meaningless. So, all should come for "mahaprayan" and gain Guru's  favour. This was one group's tactic for gaining members, increasing donations.

In response, another faction began rallying people around the banner of Jamalpur. According to them, this was the holy spot - the place of Guru's birth. They claimed that Jamalpur was the top-most and nucleus. Going to any other "holy land" is useless and serves no purpose. Those who want Guru's favour must come to Jamalpur. By visiting the various places where Guru walked and talked, certainly disciples would be blessed. They made a long kiirtan program every year at DMS Jamalpur to outdo the 7-day so-called mahaprayan kiirtan. This was their way for gaining members, increasing donations. And they invented one fake Acarya Mahasabha in Jamalpur that is happening as we speak to run in competition with MPD.

History: exploitation & disunity - 2

And other groups and sub-groups were formed based on language sentiment, geo-sentiment, socio-sentiment etc. The definition of neo-humanism was changed. People began thinking that following their own faction is neo-humanism, while others who follow different factions are not neo-humanistic.

In that way, neo-humanism and conduct rules apply to others, not for me. For my group interest, I can bend the dharmic codes: Sixteen Points and Yama and Niyama. Attacking and killing a member of a competing faction will not be sin because we are the favored party. Such feelings and sentiments have been incorporated into this new definition of neo-humanism. The race for power verily spilled over into "group doctrine or dirty group dogma" interpretation.

The term samaj became a rallying cry for Bangalisation - all should support Amra Bengali samaj as this was the way to establish Prout per Guru's guideline. Others refuted this claim and announced that theirs was the real AMPS as PP dada was now in their control. Expulsions and victimisation ensued. Neo-humanism came to mean supporting a particular group camp.

History: exploitation & disunity - 3

Not only that, but each group found virtue in banishing or destroying the programs of another group. For instance, if one group was planning on hosting a DMS, then the competing faction found it honourable and virtuous to shut down or prevent that DMS from happening. Their mind-set became rigid and static.

Each group declared that, "Baba is on my side" - and they cited various scriptures in defense of their position. Next, they created Fake Ananda Vaniis to get people to pay heed to their call. To ensure they had their chosen person in-charge on the local level, they invented their Fake Bhukti Pradhan manual. The lines between groups became wider and deeper, and more and more differences were based on competing "group doctrine or dirty group dogma" interpretations based on their competing agendas.

Then came the spilling of blood. Dadas were mercilessly beaten and bruised in Ananda Nagar. It led to a raid that literally killed an avadhuta. The fight for power led to high-pitched emotional fervor - and ultimately bloodshed and the loss of life. The divide grew to near epic proportions.

My group has Guru's favour and others are disgraced

For some years now, "group doctrine or dirty group dogma" differences and heated outbursts have been at the core of the group fight. Since 1991, === years have gone by - a veritable generation. Now new margiis are initiated into specific groups with their own PP, their own festivals, their own DMS and retreats, and their own teachings and slogans. Baba's teachings have been interpreted according to that group faction. That is why they think their group is getting Guru's favour and others are disgraced. Why? Because they are not in my faction. Group members use such sentiments to portray their group as the blessed one and by injecting hatred towards others. Tragically, various naive margiis believe this in their heart.

Those new people - and others as well - have become players for a particular faction, knowingly or unknowingly. They become indoctrinated into specific philosophical interpretations. The battle for power has veritably given rise to nearly unbridgeable "group doctrine or dirty group dogma" differences.

How to establish unity

We should always remember Baba's below teaching.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Human unity is purely an ideological unity, which means unity in the psychic sphere. Where there is psychic unity, physical unity will also occur. In the realm of unity, unity is always psychic – ideological unity means unity in the subtlest level of the mind. However, psychic or ideological unity may be affected if we encourage the exploitation of one group by another. So to avoid this there should not be any scope for exploitation in society." (2)

The moment we wholly embrace an anti-exploitation movement in Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha and ideological values are wholeheartedly embraced, then true unity is easily within our grasp.

To bring unity start an anti-exploitation movement

Baba’s pointed directive is to launch an anti-exploitation movement. At present the various Wt groups are leaders and their sycophants are exploiting margiis on numerous fronts.

Here is an overview of the various dogmas and injustices imposed by the various groups:
(a) curtailed Bhukti Pradhan rights

(b) manipulated the voter lists for BP elections

(c) continually forced margiis to be subservient to Wts

(d) ruined the ACB (Advisory Committee & Boards)

(e) invented the Fake BP Manual

(f) taken advantage of margiis & WTs financially

(g) victimised countless innocent  margiis & WTs who expressed concern about unjust organisational dealings etc.
The key aspect is that all the various central Wt group leaders are involved in exploiting margiis & wts on these fronts. They all have been pushing  margiis & WTs to the brink for their own gain. And none of the Wt groups have come forward and made a dharmic stand on these matters of exploitation. Not a single group has called for the eradication of the Fake BP manual or other injustices. Only they quarrel amongst themselves over gaining greater control over the margiis by using this Fake BP manual etc.

Conclusion

The only way out of this is to launch an anti-exploitation movement. Then all rational margiis and rational Wts will walk arm-in-arm grounded in ideological issues – not group membership or other petty issues.

Just as Baba pointed out that in the first half of the 20th century, an anti-exploitation movement was the need of the day - and that due to a lack of an anti-exploitation movement during India’s quest for freedom, India was trifurcated. Similarly an anti-exploitation movement must be the rallying cry amongst  margiis and wts today. That alone will bring unity in the organisation AMPS.

Not for all: News from Jamalpur

The so-called Acarya Mahasabha of H group is being held right now in Jamalpur, 20 - 25 Oct 2017. The top stooges of Rudrananda have administered a kind of “virginity test” to see who is the greatest sycophant, brown-noser to Rudrananda. The most toady and loyal bootlickers have been awarded the higher posts in Centre and in the sectors.

In essence, before being awarded the post, the tip of everyone's nose was checked. If it was brown they were given a higher post. If not brown, then they were pushed aside and demoted. Those lickspitters and brown-nosers who have less surrender to Rudrananda are being demoted from Centre and sectorial posts. Now Rudrananda’s sycophants are competing amongst themselves over who can lick Rudrananda’s feet the longest with their own tongue. The winners will get the higher posts in the future. This ends the satirical portion of this letter.

Baba, You have come in my heart

"Esecho ámár hridaye esecho..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0786)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, You have come in my heart. In my aching, burning core, You are come like a cool breeze. All my disappointments and sadness have vanished in the wake of Your arrival. My whole life is now filled with joy. Today I have gotten You. It is Your grace.

O' Parama Purusa, in the desert fire and scorching heat, when Rudra is in its full ferocious form, everything is unbearable. In this ghastly, desperate, and horrific situation, in the midst of the booming, roaring thunder and the loud shouting and laughter of the vanity of the demons, when everything is unbearable, You came and filled all with the sweetness of flower blossoms. You made everything serene and sentient. [1] Baba, You removed the fear and terror. You have come.

O' Parama Purusa, in this burning summer, the dry grass in the meadows weeps in hopelessness and despair. All its beauty and charm have vanished. After crying ceaselessly, it was unable to shed any more tears - its agony continues in silence. In the end, after losing everything, all are basking in the joy of getting You. Baba, You have filled the prana (heart) of the entire universe with the melodies of Your sweet tunes. They have gotten everything. In the bliss of getting You, they are dancing.

O' Parama Purusa, You have come in my mind. Baba, I do sastaunga pranam and surrender everything at Your lotus feet...

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #0786:

[1] In this stanza, the analogy of Rudra is given to show how the situation has become most disastrous where there are big tornadoes, shattering earthquakes, powerful tsunamis, and general mayhem, chaos, and destruction all around. That is what is meant by the line that Rudra is in its element - i.e. full display. So in this dire situation where one is confronted by death, disease, torment, destruction, and disaster all around, in this critical moment Parama Purusa has come and transformed everything. He has filled all with the very tender, cool feeling of the flower. This Prabhat Samgiita uses analogies to provide contrast: When negative things are going on all around, then Parama Purusa comes and makes everything tender and sweet. All the burning and pain is extinguished. That is what is described in this second stanza.

Easy way to differentiate between mind and soul

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Now you know, in the mind of each and every living being there is this feeling of “I exist”. There is one “I exist” in you. “I exist.” “I am.” “I exist.” Mm? This “I” is the subtlest mind. But don’t you know that there is the feeling of “I exist” in you? You know it, you know this fact, that there is the feeling of “I exist” in you. Don’t you know it? You know that there is a feeling of “I exist” in you. Then, “I know the fact that I exist. I know the fact that there is a feeling of ‘I exist’ in me.” Now here the “I” of “I exist”, the subject of the sentence “I exist”, is the subtlest mind. And the “I” of “I know” – “I know the fact that I exist” – the subject of the sentence “I know”, that “I” is the átman, is the spirit, is the soul. It is not mind. There is a feeling of “I exist” in me – “I exist”. That “I” is the subtlest mind. The feeling that “I exist” is in me, is known to me. That knowing “I” – “I know that I exist” – that knowing “I” (the “I” of “I know”) is the átman, the spirit, the soul.” (1)

Note: Everybody has a mind. And the feeling associated with the mind is, “I am”, “I exist”. That quality is indicative of mind. And everyone also knows that they exist and that they have a mind. The entity that knows that they have a mind is the soul. The conclusion is that “I am, I exist” is the feeling of the mind, and the feeling, “I know I exist” is the feeling of the atma or soul.

Filthy vocabulary? + 2 more

Baba

Filthy vocabulary?

Note: This letter is only for those who have reverence for Sadguru Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji and try to learn and follow His Ananda Marga ideology.

Namaskar,

Our tantric code is based on a high ideal wherein even the language reflects an outlook based on spiritual realization and selfless sacrifice and service. Sadly, this ethic is wholly absent in materialistic communities. And that deficit is also reflected in those languages. Here following are a few of the many terms that are a product of a superficial materialistic way of thinking and / or a lustful male mind-set.

Violent words towards cat

(a) 'Kill two birds with one stone': This is one of numerous terms that reflect a superficial, uncaring, materialistic attitude that reflects the idea that this whole creation is just something for one’s own personal enjoyment and selfish indulgence. The phrase means getting two jobs done at the same time, but it is a heartless expression. Whatever pain or hardship others have to suffer - whether it be people, animals, or plants - all that is secondary to the self-indulgent pleasure derived by the materialist. In a similar way of thinking there is the phrase 'more than 1 way to skin a cat' - which is a heartless way of saying that there is more than one answer to every problem.

(b) 'Sell yourself - Sell it': In this era of gross materialism, it is not just goods and material items that are sold. One must also sell ideas or even yourself. No longer does one try to convince others to get their point across. Rather, one sells it. Whether the other party understands or not is irrelevant. So long as one can sell the idea that is enough. The buying and selling mentality of materialism has invaded even the depths of one's psyche.

Examples: how good actions also colored with bad terms

(c) 'Don’t put all your eggs in one basket': This refers to the concept of not limiting oneself to a single option in life. But why correlate this notion with the embryo or offspring of a chicken. Are chickens mere commodities with no existential value of their own. Have chicken eggs been created solely for human consumption - have humans become so ego-centric. Certainly there are better - more sentient - ways to express this concept.

(d) 'Rosehip': What is the need to give a name to an herb that links that herb with a particular body part. This is yet another sensual expression of modern-day materialism. Is the only way to make this herb appealing to relate it with the mid-section of human being? There is a never-ending fascination with the allurement of the physical body in modern, western / materialistic society.

(e) 'Overkill': The social meaning of this is doing a particular task to a degree far more than is needed such as cleaning a spotless floor 3 more times, or tying down a 3kg object with ropes that were designed to hold 1,000kg. But in materialistic societies, where violence is rampant and killing is popular theme in movies, the term overkill was invented, as if to say that you already killed something - it is dead and lifeless - so there is no need to kill it anymore than that. So do not overkill it.

And there are numerous more terms.

Lowly mind creates lowly words

In our male dominated western society, language has been formed to reflect many lower types of ideas. That is why phrases and terms like 'plug and socket' get switched over into 'male and female' etc. And while it is pervasive in the west, we cannot claim that all are affected. Rather, individual and communities around the globe are affected to the degree they have become victims of materialism and the resulting pseudo-culture values and expressions.

In that case, the dominant male culture dictates events according to male satisfaction, or sensual male desires. Where words and phrases are regularly used to objectify the female body and / or portray a tamasik, sensual way of thinking etc. Just like the term 'lady's finger' was made to represent the common Hindi word Bhindi, also known as the vegetable okra. Or this male-dominated society borrowed the sensual female related term 'bra' or 'brassiere' to depict the mundane cover that fits over the front of an automobile.

Ananda Marga is spiritual society - should avoid negative terms

In this way, unfortunately, the English language - and other languages - are littered with so many of these types of expressions and innuendos: Where normal everyday events get described and named according to the landscape of the female body.

Altogether all these words and phrases are the expression of a low mind. It is a degenerated way of thinking whereby the collective debased mind submerges in a negative thought pattern. And mostly the cause is current era of our male-dominated society.

Our Ananda Marga society is spiritually based and that sentient and effulgent quality should reflect in all our expressions of individual and collective life. And we should not let ourselves get caught up in nor affected by the use of such degrading terminology that has become so pervasive all around the globe.

Conclusion

In His historic discourse, 'Renaissance In All the Strata of Life', Baba directs us that we are to guide the society and bring a renaissance in all the spheres of existence from language and linguistic expression to politics to economics to culture to spirituality and more. So language is also one key factor that should be purified, refined and made more sentient. Here following is Baba's call for a renewal in all the realms.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "The scope of the Renaissance movement is vast, and you will have to start your work from this very moment: It brooks no delay." (1)

In Him,

~ In-depth study ~

Reason for shortage of spiritual words in English language

Here below Baba is guiding us that language develops according to need based on life experience. Linguistic expression develops according to day to day engagements.

For instance, those Inuit tribes in Alaska developed a language rich with words about snow but with a dearth of vocabulary for hot-weather activities; similarly those communities from the landlocked desert have a plethora of words about dry, desert living and suffer from a shortage of words about oceanography etc. In the same manner, those communities that grew out of the confines of materialism have a gross abundance of terms describing sensual life, and have an extreme dearth - or even no words at all - of terminology depicting spiritual life. If a people have no idea what savikalpa samadhi is then there is no cause for them to create such a word.

Words are created based on a community's sphere of engagement in a particular realm of life. That is what Baba is expressing in His below teaching.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Perhaps you know – especially those of you who study philology, or deal with the science of phonetics and vocabulary – that a language in its infancy starts with a very limited vocabulary. Later, the more the community using this limited word-stock advances in different spheres of practical life, the more enriched the vocabulary becomes, but if that community lacks the will to advance, their vocabulary will not grow..."
"I have just said that as a community passes through various phases in different spheres of life, its collection of words simultaneously increases. The language of monkeys will serve as an example. It is a fact that monkeys have their own language. Among the different species of monkeys there are those who remain in the jungles and forests. As they hardly ever come in contact with human beings, they have little knowledge and few words in their stock, perhaps thirty to forty words. They do not need to create compound words; they manage well enough by uttering certain significant expressions using sounds such as kiun, kun, kin, kain." (2)

Guidelines for how to create new words

However, in Ananda Marga we always bring everything into a positive light. Because Baba graciously gives solutions for each and every problem. So in the response to the current trend of debased language, Baba has given special encyclopedia(s) and grammar books - such as Laghu Nirukta and Shabda Cayanika etc - and included within them are guidelines for how to create new words. Thus He has granted us the opportunity to invent and formulate proper sentient words which were otherwise lacking in the language. So this is one special new technique given by Baba. And this will be very beneficial for society. Because just as the standard of mind affects the quality of language, similarly oral and linguistic expression in all its forms affects the development of mind.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Good company, good books, good literature, good songs, kiirtanas (devotional chanting) elevate the mind and the mind becomes sanctified." (3)

A linguistic comparison

Here are some basic & qualitative differences between oriental and occidental language. As this gives some insight as to how languages are formed.

Uniqueness of the sanskrit language

As Ananda Margiis, by Baba's grace we have gotten opportunity to bring the Sanskrit language into our everyday vocabulary. Because certainly this is a beautiful and subtle language-- with its own internal and unique meaning. As we have all seen there are numerous Sanskrit terms which have no direct corollary word in the western languages like English.

For example such important and deeply meaningful words like mantra, upavasa, dharma, and sadhana etc-- none of these words have an appropriate English synonym. No doubt certain words are used such as incantation, fasting, religion, and meditation etc. But these all fall short of the mark; they sacrifice to some or more degree the true meaning of the term. And Baba clearly points out that these English terms do not carry the real spirit of the corresponding Sanskrit words.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "There is no proper English word for the Sanskrit word 'mantra'. We use the word 'incantation' for mantra, but it is not a proper word for the Sanskrit term." (4)

And regarding the word upavasa Baba again points out the deficit of the corresponding word in English.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "'Upavasa' - on these days of fasting, what are all spiritual aspirants to do? Mentally they should live near their Lord...these days are known as 'upava'sa'. The word 'fasting' does not represent the proper sense or proper spirit." (5)

More examples how English is incapable

Likewise dharma is often translated as religion; yet as Ananda Margiis we all know the term 'religion' is entirely insufficient to represent the Sanskrit word 'dharma'. And even the word sadhana has no English counterpart. In common circles the English word meditation is used. But that is unable to express the proper meaning of the Sanskrit term sadhana.

And same is the case with the Sanskrit word Is't'a. In that case also the applied English term 'goal' does not carry the distinctive meaning of the term I'sta'. Rather a whole collection of words are needed to attempt to carry the spirit of the term Is't'a. But even by using a half-a-dozen English terms or more, still they  fail to reflect the real sense, spirit, and vibration of the term Is'ta.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "What's the meaning of Is't'a? Is't'a means 'loving', 'favourite', 'dear', 'attractive', 'goal', 'terminus', 'desideratum'. There are so many imports for that single term Is't'a." (6)

So we see that in so many cases the English vocabulary is basically incapable of reflecting spiritual ideas which are neatly expressed in a single Sanskrit term.

The idea is that language itself is a reflection of the mental standard of a given society. And when the Sanskrit language itself was developed during an era when the psychic standard was quite high, then there is a tremendous number of words for expressing subtle spiritual ideas. Whereas in English, that scope is not present; if anything, the English language is prone in the opposite direction, especially these days where it is marred by extreme materialism.

And indeed the above letter presents a few phrases and terms from the English language that reflect the prevailing materialistic outlook of the day. And verily there are countless more examples.

How avidya maya tries to ruin sadhakas

Ananda Marga ideology states, "The avidyá force declares war on those whose desire or inclination is towards vidyá; this gives rise to a hostile tendency in the recesses of their minds, against which they have to struggle. At home the husband, wife or the other members of the family become dissatisfied with them, and create various obstacles. In the field of their activities the opportunities arise for depravity, meanness, bribes etc., and they have to maintain their self-control. The locusts of desires come swarming in to destroy the very bud of their sádhaná. So they must carefully avoid such temptations for their own safety. But those whose movement is truly towards vidyá, who are determined to follow the path of vidyá by sacrificing their all, will eventually become immune to all obstacles. No amount of scornful taunts or diatribes will be able to check their lightning speed. They will emerge victorious, weathering and defying all storms, and eventually stand firm and erect like the Himalayas; and the storms and squalls will rebound back in disappointment."

"When the Sádhaka or the spiritual aspirant will stand untrammelled and resolute, with the courage of his conviction, and self-confidence, all snags and dangers will gradually wither away – will timidly disappear from his path...Obstacles are the concomitants of sádhaná, struggling is a good sign. By these obstacles sádhakas can understand that their spiritual practice is on the right track. Spiritual philosophy comes into being only when sádhakas struggling with avidyá’s hindrances, vindicates their move towards Brahma after defeating the base propensities of avidyá by their own intellect and judgment." Baba

Download -> Baba’s audio file: devotional sadhana points

Namaskar,

Appended below please find a link an audio file with sound clips from Sadguru Baba’s various discourses where He places great importance on sadhana and the creation of ideal, spiritual human beings.
  • Baba guides us that if we are unable to create proper human beings and we give them the responsibility to do some meaningful work, they will not be able to do it. It is just like if a person does not have good strength in their arms and shoulders and you give them a 500lb weight to carry, they will be crushed. Those who want to lead the society in various spheres of life should make their personality strong by sadhana. Otherwise, they will not be able to manage any worthwhile work.
  • You should not feel shy to speak in your mother tongue. If you feel shy it means you are not an A-grade human being.
  • You have been given human life to do sadhana only. Everything else is secondary. First one should do maximum sadhana and realise Parama Purusa in this life; and then if you want to do social service, come again and again in human form on this earth to serve Him. But first you should realise Him by practicing intense sadhana.

Path of bhakti is the best

  • There are three paths. The path of jinana or knowledge is dangerous as one becomes prideful and vainglorious, which brings degeneration. The path of karma is also dangerous as it invites ego and vanity: “I have done this or I have done that.” That also degenerates the mind. The path of bhakti is the best and the safest. You have come here to do sadhana - do not procrastinate. Time is very important.
  • Baba guides us to become bhaktas, not jinaniis. Jinaniis study a lot but they quickly forget what they study. Whereas, bhaktas do not engage in intellectual extravaganza, and when they need to know something they directly ask Parama Purusa. And that knowledge they remember.
  • One should always follow dharma, even if that means losing one’s own life. Cent-per-cent of the time should should adhere to bhagavad dharma.
  • By practising sadhana, one decreases their distance with Parama Purusa, until ultimately, the sadhaka will become on with Him, by His grace.

"Parama Purusa belongs only to me"

  • Knowingly or unknowingly everyone wants to attain Parama Purusa. Even animals want Him, but they can't do kiirtan or sadhana. Only human beings can practice dharma sadhana. So one should be very strict in their spiritual practices and make their human life meaningful.
  • Baba cites the story of Dhruva to demonstrate that from childhood one should practice bhagavad dharma. Those who do intense sadhana are intelligent. And others are fools.
  • Whatever social service you do, do not brag that, “I have done this or I have done that.” Parama Purusa does all kinds of things but He does not brag. So you should become like Him. Be a silent worker. Whatever you do, do not brag about it.
  • As stated, one should not have any ego or vanity. But if a person does have ego in their mind, then it should be, “I am Yours and You are mine.” One can only have ego that, “Parama Purusa belongs only to me.” Beyond that one should not have any ego.

Conclusion

The above is a micro overview of what is on the audio file. It is mostly in Hindi, but Beloved Baba has also spoken English, Bengali, Bhojpuri, and other languages also. And there are some Saḿskrta slokas too. Ultimately, if you know someone who speaks Hindi etc that will be very helpful.

In Him,
Satyadeva

Errata: Shraddha’injali came into AMPS

Following is an updated version of a paragraph from the letter titled: "Shraddha’injali came into AMPS" - Eds

Ingredients of shraddhainjali dogma / worship of deceased

So the needed ingredients for shraddhainjali are:

1. Dead person (Note: Shraddhainjali cannot be done for a living person like Ac Rudrananda Avt, Ac Sarvatmananda Avt,  Ac Citsvarupananda Avt, Ac Mantreshvarananda Avt, Ac Bhaveshananda Avt, Ananda Giita Acarya, Ac Raviishananda Avt, Ac. Vicitrananda Avt, Ac Madhuvratananda, Ac Pranavatmakananda Avt, Ac Nabhatiitanadna, Ac Dhyaneshananda Avt, Ac Hariishananda, Ac Haratamananda Avt, Ac Sambhutyananda, Parameshvarananda,Ac Kinshukji, Ac Vishvadevananda Avt etc. In order to do shraddhainjali for them one must wait. Because one cannot do shraddhainjali of a living person.)

2. Casket or tomb

3. Flowers (real or artificial / paper or plastic), small or large amount

4. Toys (if the deceased is a child)

5. Scents

6. Water (optional)

7. Chants (Recited in Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, or Sanskrit - or done in the local language if needed.)

8. Head priest, or mullah, or senior avadhuta, or purodha pramukha (any single one is enough)

9. Mourners (minimum one and maximum as much as possible). To show greater respect people hire or rent mourners. They do this for various leaders; those rented mourners will raise the slogan in favour of the deceased or cry out loud as requested.

The above points are inherent to any shraddhainjali dogma. So by placing shraddhainjali in the post 1990 Caryacarya appendix, the insinuation is that all these things will be done.

Note: Here it should be understood that shraddhainjali refers to both (a) the day of the actual death ceremony and (b) the annual commemoration of the death. In both instances it is called as a shraddhainjali program.
