Negative authority + 5 more

Baba
Negative authority

Namaskar,

In daily life, most people depend upon the voice of an authority. Essentially, authorities present opinions or directives, and the common people follow accordingly, without analysing or questioning them. Most people derive their dos and don’ts in this way.

For instance, students consider the textbook to be their authority. For students, those textbooks represent the truth. And this happens with most sections of society in various realms of life. People defer to an authoritative figure for guidance and direction. They rely on newscasters, technicians, mechanics, writers, and countless other specialists as an authority on a given topic. One of the reasons this approach of following an authority is so prevalent is that it makes human life easier and more simple. Yet it has to be borne in mind that the aforesaid authority’s opinion is subject to logic and reasoning, and can be challenged, discussed, and debated.

Authoritative knowledge is deadly when logical debate is not allowed. Authoritative knowledge based on faith is poisonous. Ananda Marga ideology is dharma where logic and reasoning is allowed, while the various semitic faiths are religions - not dharma. Religion and dharma are not the same.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Read any so-called religious book: one will seldom find anything resembling tolerance of the religious beliefs of others...If necessary, different views can be compared and presented in philosophical books. The philosophical and psychological loopholes in an argument may be pointed out without being disrespectful.” (1)

Idiots glorify irrational doctrine of religion

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “For example, some say that the moon was split by the incantation of mantras. Others say that someone put black spots on the moon. Others say that an old woman is sitting on the moon spinning yarn – that is why the moon has black spots. Still others say that the black spots are there because a hare is sitting on the moon’s lap – and so one name of the moon is Shasháuṋka. Those who accept these stories as authoritative and propagate these ideas, disregard even their own eyes. And thus finally they end up becoming the slaves of dogma. Those slaves of dogma, sometimes knowingly, sometimes unknowingly, submerge themselves in the mire of falsehood. They create obstacles to the spread of knowledge, and may even destroy the spirit of inquiry in others.” (2)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The influence of so-called authority exercises a greater spell on those who are averse to study, those who are disinclined to increase their rationalistic outlook, and those who have put a seal on their innate faculties of thinking and recollection. It is true that authority has to be accepted, as I have already said, but nothing in this world of relativity should be given undue importance or accepted as revelation or as unalterable, unquestionable truth.” (3)

History: PM of Israel killed by a fanatic Jew

Here is a report how a radical Jew used religious scripture to justify murdering the former leader of Israel.

~ Courtesy of Dexter Filkins, The New Yorker Magazine ~

“In the weeks leading up to Rabin’s murder, three extremist rabbis from the West Bank issued a written opinion suggesting that it would be acceptable to kill Rabin, on the ground that he had betrayed the Jewish people. The rabbis based their justification on the concept of din rodef, a Hebrew term that describes a person who is stalking a defenseless man. (“Rodef” means “pursuer” in Hebrew.) Under certain interpretations of the Talmud, it is obligatory to kill a rodef in order to save the intended victim. The main fear among the security services was a Palestinian suicide bomber; Rabin himself could not imagine that he would be killed by a Jew. Neither, apparently, could his bodyguards; when the moment came, Amir pushed through the crowd and shot Rabin twice in the back. Later that night, Amir asked the police for a glass of schnapps to toast the Prime Minister’s death. Arafat, hearing of the assassination, wept.” (Courtesy of Dexter Filkins, The New Yorker Magazine)

Conclusion

Authoritative religious doctrines are deadly because logical debate is not allowed. Authoritative knowledge based on faith or religion is poisonous and lethal. So remain alert.

How intelligent people do dumb things due to religious authority

Ananda Marga philosophy states “I have said in my book The Liberation of Intellect: Neohumanism: read as much as you can, cultivate the faculty of knowledge, and accept only those things which are worthy of acceptance after rational thinking. The mind discharges two main functions – thinking and recollecting. People generally do not – and do not want to – utilize these mental faculties.” (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy says “Perception, inference and authority are the valid sources of knowledge. People generally ignore inference; they are chiefly concerned with perception and authority. As they do not cultivate much the habit of thinking and recollecting, oftentimes they tend to give more weight to authority than to perception. Often they reject perception irrationally under the pressure of authority.” (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy states,  “I would not say, nor will anyone say, that perception is altogether free from defects. Nonetheless it is generally recognized as a valid source of knowledge, but people often disregard its value under the pressure of authority.” (6)

Blind faith & religious bigotry

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us, “So blind were their sentiments that they refused to listen to rationality. Take the case of cows: Hindus worship cows as something holy, apparently because they give us milk. But if cows are revered as mothers for giving us milk, shouldn’t buffaloes be given a similar status? Actually, buffaloes give more milk than cows. Unfortunately, the blind religious followers refuse to listen to logic as their religious sentiment for cows has taken root deep in their minds. People are fed these ideas since childhood, so later on it becomes impossible for them to discard them. Science students understand the reason for a lunar or solar eclipse. They know that the eclipse does not occur because the sun or moon has been devoured by the mythological demons Ráhu and Ketu (Umbra and Penumbra). Yet due to the deep rooted Saḿskaras in the mind, they rush to take a holy bath in the Ganges during the eclipse. This is the result of blind faith.” (7)

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, “When the wave of physical sentiment becomes stronger than the wave of logic, we call it blind faith or religious bigotry…”
“It is very difficult to persuade religious bigots to follow the path of logic because according to them even to listen to others is a sinful act. This is nothing but mere sentiment. According to some religions beef eating is forbidden but the killing of deer and goats is permissible. This is totally irrational.”
“Out of sentiment arose different ritualistic observances such as the way a lamp should be lit and held and the way one should kneel down in prayer. No logical arguments can be found to substantiate these rituals.” (8)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, ”By glorifying an irrational doctrine which has been created by personal caprice, like a red balloon of imagination flying in the sky, and then imposing that doctrine on millions of people, they destroy the universal values of human beings.” (9)

Deadly teachings from Quran

Hadeeth states clearly that Jihad is an obligation ordained by Allah. This obligation is binding until everyone confesses that there is no God (worthy of worship) but Allah. The understanding of this is that either the unbelievers accept Imaan or surrender themselves to live under the system of the Believers.

It is therefore clear that there is power behind the D'awah of the Kalimah. When the Muslims invite the unbelievers towards Islam the power of fighting is conveyed with the message and any resistance is crushed.

The revelations relating to fighting enables the Muslims to remove the Ruler who rejects the call to Islam and the payment of Jizya (a tax imposed on unbelievers. The Ruler therefore, cannot continue to govern his country in accordance with his pleasure and obstruct his people from the all to Islam. The order of fighting was revealed so that such tyrant rulers could be either converted or removed to allow the free propagation of Islamic D'awah. This was the adopted method of the Sahabas RadhiAllahu ' Anhum of giving D' awah.

About Islam cruelty cruel music

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Humanity, in its all-out quest for this aesthetic science, attained spirituality. One must acknowledge this. Herein lies the excellence of aesthetic science. For this reason, I have given my whole-hearted and explicit support for nandana vijiṋána. You know that there are certain religions [like Islam etc] which do not encourage aesthetic pursuits. You will notice that in those religions [like Islam etc] inertia, inferiority complexes and a sense of violence are predominant.” (10)

Pointing out religious loopholes

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Read any so-called religious book: one will seldom find anything resembling tolerance of the religious beliefs of others...If necessary, different views can be compared and presented in philosophical books. The philosophical and psychological loopholes in an argument may be pointed out without being disrespectful.” (11)

Dogma in veda

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “On the one hand, the Jiṋána Kanda [of veda] taught that when a person died, the body decomposes and returns to the five fundamental factors of creation. On the other hand, the Karma Kanda taught that delicious food and cloth should be offered when someone died, so that the deceased person could enjoy these things in their afterlife. The Karma Kanda  [of veda] is full of many baseless and misleading instructions.” (12)

Your tales

"Tomár kathái bhávite bhávite din cale jáy katoná;
tabu náhi áso marme ná bháso, bujhi mor náhi sádhaná..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2264)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, my days are passing thinking only about You, Your stories and tales. By Your grace my time is spent involved in kiirtan, asana, sadhana, svadhyaya, and ideating on You. The whole 24 hrs passes in Your thought - since ages it has been like this: Thinking that You will come. Even then, You do not come in a very intimate way. When I contemplate this, I feel all my life have passed in vain. It makes me think I do not have A-grade sadhana or parabhakti. Otherwise what could be the reason.

O’ Parama Purusa, Baba, by Your mercy I feel in my heart that You love me; I can sense that You understand my painful and melancholic longing for You. By Your divine karuna I also know that You keep my 'unit I-feeling' - my mind - with You always. I understand that You are always thinking about me and watching for my welfare. In spite of all this, Your love for me and my ”determination to get You” both could not become one. That is why there is an aching spiritual pain lingering in my heart. It will only go away when I will obtain You. Lord, I am waiting for that auspicious occasion.

Even then, when I sit in meditation You do not come in a very intimate way. When I contemplate this, I feel all my life has passed in vain. It makes me think I do not have A-grade sadhana or parabhakti. Otherwise what could be the reason.

O’ Parama Purusa, Baba, by Your mercy Parama Purusa, please mold me according to Your liking - make me as You wish. I am ready to follow Your order so that I can feel You more deeply, more intimately. By Your krpa, I love You; and, I know You love me, so do with me as You wish - according to Your desire - I will follow. Sometimes I wallow in ignorance and think my worldly friends are my true saviours and that they are going to help me in my hour of need - up to eternity. Please open my eyes give me the blessing that there is no one other than You who is mine in this vast universe. Baba, please shower me in Your grace compassion so I can realise in the core of my heart that only You are my eternal shelter...

Note For Prabhat Samgiita #2264:

[1] "Tumi cha'r'a na'i jagate kehai...": In this last line of the above Prabhat Samgiita the bhakta wants the divine cognizance that only Parama Purusa is the eternal shelter. This same type of idea has been expressed in the below teaching.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Because of His grace, they will get energy or strength from Him, and with that strength they will move forward. Without His grace, no one can move even a single step forward. And for this people should always remember that by their own efforts they do not make any progress, rather it is due to the wish of Parama Purus´a that they make any progress at all. It is the duty of Parama Purus´a to help them to move forward. This 100% reliance on Parama Purus´a is called 'prapatti' in the scriptures. Sadhakas should always maintain the spirit of 'prapatti'...'Whatever takes place in the universe and whatever qualities I possess is all due to His grace. He is the Lord of everything; He is the machine-man, and I am simply a machine'." (1)

Undue credit given to Mr. Everest

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Mt. Everest, of the Himalayan range is the highest mountain in the world. This fact was established by Ra'dha'nath Sikadar. Most probably he named the peak after his supervising officer, the Surveyor General of that time, Mr. Everest." (1)

Note 1: Baba is revealing the reality that Ra'dha'nath Sikadar of India first established the truth that Everest is the highest peak in the world. Hence credit should be given to Ra'dha'nath Sikadar, not Mr. Everest. But Mr. Everest took the credit and kept it in his own name. Otherwise the name would be Mt. Ra'dha'nath.

Note 2: Generally speaking, people are not aware how this illustrious mountain of the Himalayan range was named. In particular, why was a European given for this peak when other Himalayan peaks are named in Sanskrit - like Mt. Kaela'sh.

Note 3: During the British rule of India, the 'Surveyor General' post was occupied by Mr. Everest.

Universal truth about progress

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Those who want to avoid the cultivation of knowledge hardly get any opportunity for psychic clash, and hence the higher kośas of his mind do not get any scope for development. It is through psychic clash that the psychic field gets properly tilled, thereby increasing its fertility. All living beings evolving in the phase of Pratisaiṋcara benefit from this psychic clash."
"Both physical clash and psychic clash accelerate psychic progress. The rat which escapes from the trap never makes the mistake of getting caught again; the fish which frees itself from the fishermans hook never bites the bait again. Physical clash develops the kámamaya kośa and, as a consequence, the instinct to survive. A city ox walks confidently along a busy street in Calcutta, but if a village ox were made to walk along the same road, it would become crazy." (1)

Note: The general rule is: Physical clash is the impetus for physical development; psychic clash brings about psychic development; and, the attraction for the Great leads to spiritual development.

Human: rebirth as cat

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “The mind needs an appropriate body with which it can return from the state of distortion to the normal state through the medium of actions, through the medium of its nerve cells and nerve fibres. What will happen if it gets an unsuitable body? The mind will be unable to return to its normal state through that body. So it needs an appropriate body.” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Gold ornaments cannot be fashioned with a blacksmith’s hammer. A goldsmith’s hammer is necessary. According to the nature of the task, an appropriate instrument is necessary. The body is an instrument. So one needs an appropriate body. Suppose a person is obsessed with the thought of doing this or that, to harm another person. They will receive the body of a pig or a dog. One who desires to do something good and noble, will receive a good physical body accordingly, because the mind has to be restored to its natural state by whatever means necessary. After death, the distorted mind moves about the cosmos under the impetus of the mutative force (rajoguńa), searching for an appropriate physical base according to its reactive momenta (saḿskáras). For example, a person dies in Kolkata. They may take rebirth on a different planet or a satellite, because they have to go to that place where they can find an appropriate body for their saḿskáras, those yet unexhausted reactions of their previous actions…” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Whether one be a philanthropist or a star athlete, one desires to see what is written about them in the newspaper. This means that in trying to do some good work, what are they really doing? They are falling under the sway of one propensity, the propensity of greed.”

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Which animal is the greediest among the animals with which we are all very familiar? It does not like to give up greed in spite of ill treatment and humiliations. It is the cat. Yes, after moving a few steps ahead, the cat forgets that it was beaten. So, that particular person is reborn as a cat after death, because that body affords an opportunity for the satiation of their greed” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “So in order to exhaust the saḿskáras one needs an appropriate body. Some people obtain a new body immediately after death and others obtain it later. But one has to obtain it somehow.”

Ananda Marga ideology states, “When they perform the act of charity, átmá or Parama Puruśa witnessed it. He heard the language of their mind while they were performing that act of charity. Parama Puruśa also sees when a particular person in the form of a cat steals milk and rice, and this saḿskára will come to an end when the saḿskára of greed is exhausted. Only then is one elevated to a higher state. From a cat one may become a dog, and from a dog one becomes a monkey, and then one day they get a human body in the process of exhausting saḿskáras, because an animal cannot do anything independently. The animal, of course, is guided by instincts, inborn saḿskáras.” (1)
