AM welcomes all types + 4 more

Baba
AM welcomes all types

Namaskar,

On the path of Ananda Marga, there are three types of sadhakas: pashvacariis, viiracariis, and divyacariis. Pashvacariis are less active margiis; viiracariis are mediocre sadhakas; and, those who are very strict and never compromise on points of dharma are divyacariis. And within each of these three grades, there are further gradations.

There will always be a mixture and multitude of various grades of sadhakas. New people are always coming into human life and entering onto the path of pashvacara. After many lives and with God's grace, they will one day become viiracariis. Depending on a sadhaka's inherent inclinations, one will pursue the path differently, on a particular grade.

People have come into AMPS for different reasons

After all, we have to remember that people have entered into Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha for a vast array of reasons. Some have come because they wanted to travel overseas; some have come because they could not get a job in the private sector; some have come to escape their jail sentences; some have come to find a wife or husband; some have come to get away from their wife or husband; some have come to do karma yoga; some have come to get a high post; some have come to be regarded as a so-called high yogi based on their own hypocrisy; some have come to fulfill His mission (A'tma moks'a'rtham' jagaddhita'ya ca); and, some have come to please Him.

And still others were “born into” Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha. Since their birth they have been attending Ananda Marga functions. By this way, they become accustomed to Ananda Marga as a way of life, and as they grew they have held fond memories and a very sympathetic feeling toward Ananda Marga.

Various grades of sadhakas

So people enter into Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha from all kinds of backgrounds and interests. Not only that, once in AMPS, people behave differently. Some are very vigilant in attending all organisational activities, and some come once or twice a year for big feasts and social programs. Some are very strict in sadhana, and some less so. There are gradations, yet all are Ananda Margiis. The common thread being that all hold Baba dearly as their Ista. All are our brothers and sisters, so we should embrace all, and help everyone become successful in their human life. Indeed, there are various grades, and we appreciate everyone.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In addition, Baba has given various trades and departments to appeal to the various mental colours of this grand humanity. Those with political interest can work in Prout. Those with more physical stamina might get involved in VSS and engage by doing guard duty or PT parade etc. Those wishing to do dharma pracar will be active in SDM and HPMG (Hari Parimańd́ala Gośt́hi), and those wanting to educate and serve will be in ERAWS. And there are other departments as well ranging from the Farm department to Industry to AMURT - and, in many cases, our sister organisations in WWD. For instance, there is Girls Prout, Amurt-L, GV (Girls Volunteers) and various departments. There is vast scope for engagement, depending on one's mental tendency and proclivity.

At the same time, we know that every Ananda Margii should be ready to do everything and engage in all the sevas. This quality one gains by following 16 Points. Ultimately, sadvipras will have all the qualities; they will have all mental attributions and be well-versed in all forms of seva, from physical to spiritual etc. Upon entering onto the path of Ananda Marga one may not be like this, but gradually over time one grows in this way, by His grace.

Conclusion

As there are various grades of sadhakas in our Ananda Marga way of life, people do sadhana for various reasons. Some do sadhana to impress others; some do sadhana as a requirement so that they can take their meal; some only do sadhana in public; some engage less in their sadhana program; some do sadhana for mental peace; some do sadhana for self-realisation; and, some do sadhana to serve and please Him. So there are various grades of sadhakas in our Marga.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Furthermore, some like to sing kiirtan thinking that they are becoming clean and pure, and some sing in hopes of becoming a force in this universe, and some like to sing for the sole reason of loving and pleasing Parama Purusa. Some bhaktas do not feel comfortable relying on their own unit ego. They do not like to think that, “I am doing everything”, because they know that unit beings cannot do anything, Parama Purusa does everything. It all depends on one's quality of mind as Baba has created something for everyone.

Yet all along, the unifying point - regardless of one's mental colour - is that they hold Baba as their Ista. This is the binding property. And that is why all are Ananda Margiis, just of various grades.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Satyamurti

~ In-depth study ~

Same universal family

Baba has designed this Ananda Marga for everyone - and verily all must come under the banner of AM. For this reason Baba has given diverse ways of explaining AM practices and AM ideology. Because everyone belongs in Ananda Marga.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Remember, until every person in the universe accepts the Ananda Marga ideology, you have no opportunity to rest." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Now, these created beings, they being the progeny of the same father, are members of the same Universal Family. We must not forget this supreme fact." (2)

Those meditating upon Him with undivided attention

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “I have been saying for a long time that human society is a singular entity, that human society is indivisible. Human beings, because of their petty interests, prefer to remain oblivious to this truth. But one should remember that to forget altogether and to remain forgetful are not the same. So many near and dear ones, so many kith and kin, whom you had loved so dearly in the past are no longer in the world. Have you forgotten them? No, you have not. You remain forgetful of them." (3)

Ananda Vanii says, "All the beings of this universe are the kith and kin of one another. No one is despicable. All are equally respectable and entitled to equal love and affection. No problem is to be ignored as an individual or group affair. Every problem is to be considered as the collective problem of universal humanity and is to be resolved collectively and resolved it must be. Let it be the vocal panorama of the newer world of today – the continuous musical notes behind the movement of Neohumanism." (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “Parama Puruśa looks deep into the inner thoughts and feelings of human beings. He is omniscient, forever watching throughout the creation those who are meditating upon Him with undivided attention, and those who have been patiently waiting with an unwavering mind to realize Him. These are expressions of those with an integral outlook. Only such people, irrespective of caste, colour, creed, community, national or geographical barrier, etc. can look upon each and every human being as their own kith and kin. They are free of all discrimination. They even treat the animals and plants as being intimately related to themselves." (5)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Those who want to promote the welfare of all human beings, remaining above all sorts of parochial sentiments, have no alternative but to embrace universalism with their heart and soul – there is no other way. As universalism is totally devoid of any characteristic of ism, it is not proper to depict universalism as an ism. If everyone is looked upon as one's own, no one remains beyond the periphery of one's kith and kin. Naturally, then, there is no scope for violence, envy, narrowness, etc." (6)

"Progeny of Parama Puruśa"

Ananda Marga ideology states, "I have also said that sins are just like the dust that settles on our clothes. By shaking the clothing, the dust will vanish. This simple action can be done by everyone. Ananda Marga has clarified that human beings are the progeny of Parama Puruśa and are thus the objects of His love and affection. Whatever might be the nature of the sins they commit, they will never be deprived of His affection. Parama Puruśa may scold them, but He can never hate them. He will simply shake the dust off their clothes and take them onto His lap. So the most important thing is complete surrender. People should always remember that they are the progeny of Parama Puruśa. That is enough." (7)

Ananda Marga is a man-making mission

Ananda Marga ideology states, “It is not proper for one particular class to dominate society. If one class is dominant, it will surely continue to exploit the other classes. Hence Ananda Marga wants a society without divisions or discrimination, where everyone will be entitled to equal opportunities and equal rights." (8)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Remember, Ananda Marga is a man-making mission. Both quantity and quality are important. Everyone should be free to join Ananda Marga, to take part in social functions, etc., but only those established in Yama and Niyama may be given any position to work in society." (9)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Social philosophy of Ananda Marga advocates the development of the integrated personality of the individual, and also the establishment of world fraternity, inculcating in human psychology a Cosmic sentiment. The Marga advocates progressive utilization of mundane and supramundane factors of the Cosmos. The society needs a stir for life, vigour and progress, and for this Ananda Marga advocates the Progressive Utilization Theory (Prout), meaning thereby progressive utilization of all factors. Those who support this principle may be termed “Proutists”.” (10)

Unique Dedication page

The Propounder of neo-humanism states:

“To those who think for all . . .
who offer others seats of honour and respect . . .
who venerate others, instead of waiting to be venerated –
to them I dedicate this book with humble esteem and deepest salutations.” (1)

- Shrii Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar

Note: In the above lines, it is obvious we should give first priority to honouring those whom nobody honours.

Where those answers came from

Ananda Marga ideology states, “The remedies for illnesses or answers to questions that a person receives at the shrine of different gods and goddesses is not due to the greatness of those gods and goddesses. As a result of sincere longing a state of one-pointedness arises in the mind and if, at that time, that person falls into deep sleep because of physical tiredness then the answers to his or her questions may descend from the unconscious mind into the subconscious mind. There the person receives the answers to his or her questions about illness or other questions according to his or her mental conceptions and beliefs. The person thinks that he or she has perhaps received these answers due to the grace of such-and-such god or goddess. Actually, thanks to the grace of the Supreme Consciousness, his or her unconscious mind is the hidden repository of infinite knowledge. Due to one-pointedness, the person has been able to temporarily submerge part of his mind within the boundaries of that profound knowledge.” (1)

Oppose injustice or just keep busy in mundane work

Please pay attention to the yellow highlighted words. In this below quote, Baba is warning us that top capitalists are mercilessly exploiting people in various ways. Those aware of this fact have the duty to tell others by word of mouth, writing letters, sending emails, printing newspapers, and writing essays or books, etc. There are all kinds of ways to educate society.

So long as the common mass is not aware about how they are getting exploited, they will never be able to recover. That is why our duty is to make them aware. If we ignore this and go on building roads and schools, and do and not tell about exploitation that will be a serious blunder. It is similar to a being busy in constructive works like furnishing a house, when that house itself is on fire. In that case decorating and furnishing that house will be foolish. Rather, when the house is burning there is just one thing to do - make a hue and cry and inform everyone.

Similarly in our Marga - when various types of exploitation are going on - then being busy in constructing buildings and roads is not enough. A hue and cry is needed. In that case, one should write letters or inform others about the injustices and exploitation in any of the various aforesaid ways.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Make people aware of how capitalists, in their singular or collective roles, exploit society and create unhealthy, artificial demands which not only poison the mind but encourage dangerous habits detrimental to psychic sanctity and expansion. The first and foremost duty of psycho-economics is to wage a tireless fight against all degenerating and dehumanizing economic trends in society.”
“The second branch of psycho-economy develops and enhances the psychic pabula of the individual and collective minds. This branch is virtually unknown today, but it will become an extremely important branch of economics in the future. It will ensure equilibrium and equipoise in all levels of the economy. It will find new and creative solutions to economic problems to nurture the maximum utilization of psychic and spiritual potentialities. Psycho-economics will add to the glaring glamour of economics.” (1)

Creating strong margiis + 3 more

Baba
Creating strong margiis

Namaskar,

The various religions and spiritual groups use stories of greatness and mythical tales about their leader to attract new people. They recount how their prophet or saint healed the sick of incurable diseases, or made gold watches appear from thin air, or so many other grand tales they tell to lure new followers. In our Ananda Marga, our approach is entirely different.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The specialty of our Ananda Marga is sadhana - direct, personal experience of Guru. Thus, on the practical side we teach and emphasize the importance of spiritual engagement - kiirtan, meditation etc. And on the theoretical side, when we do pracar with new people, we talk to them about our philosophy using logic and reasoning - encouraging the spirit of inquiry and rationality.

Whereas the religions only rely on blind, unquestioned acceptance of their beliefs and miracle stories about their saviour or leader to gain new followers.

Sadhana brings psychic strength & ideological commitment

If we also follow such an approach - and only tell stories of Baba's glory to new people - then they will think we are no different from those religions. Those new people will never truly understand Guru's greatness. No one can realise Baba as Parama Purusa through theoretical means alone, i.e. stories etc. Sadhana is needed.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

When anyone does sadhana sincerely they invariably gain their own experience and begin to realise who Baba is. With that experience, Ananda Marga philosophy will be more clear and convincing. And they will become a greater adherent of Ananda Marga ideals. They will not be swayed by naysayers or controversy, because they have their own internal link with Baba. They will be able to weather any storm.

Without sadhana, one will not even be interested in the teachings of Ananda Marga. Or, in their heart, they will never be truly convinced of those teachings and stories. Rather they will always remain in doubt and quandary.

Practical approach makes Ananda Marga unique

So sadhana is a must to become a firm adherent of the teachings of Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, and feel a magnetic attraction towards Him. Deep within, by His grace, one will embrace Him as Parama Purusa. Then all those spiritual stories about Baba will be very inspiring and beautiful. So all kinds of Baba stories are highly beneficial for established sadhakas - but stories must not be our main pracar tool with new people. The practical approach of sadhana is the main thing. Then people will be able to come close and understand His divine teachings. And this is true for longtime sadhakas as well.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Thus everyone in our Ananda Marga must challenge themselves to do more sadhana. And this is what makes our Ananda Marga unique. That makes one's link and relation with Him more close; plus that sadhaka will feel that Baba's each and every teaching is special and extraordinary. Without the practical and experiential approach of sadhana, there is no hope for becoming a true Ananda Margii and realising Baba as Parama Purusa. With sadhana He is within Your reach, whereas if one relies on stories and theoretical knowledge alone, He will remain out of their grasp.

When sadhana wanes

As we have seen, there are so many examples of people who entered onto the path of Ananda Marga but could not remain for the long haul. There were many aspects of our Ananda Marga way of life which they liked: retreats, Baba stories, vegetarian food, seminars, social service etc. But when challenges arose, due to a lack of sadhana, they did not have the mental strength to continue to forge ahead. Rather they gave up all that they were doing. There are so many examples of this. In this circumstance, everything was going fine until they encountered a problem which they did not expect. And that single problem knocked them from the path because they did not have the requisite sadhana - i.e. deep feeling of bhakti - to persevere and forge ahead. So they left and forgot everything they learned.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Another circumstance that arises is when a sadhaka has been continuing for years in a particular mode. They have been maintaining a degree of engagement and participation in all kinds of ideological activities and pursuits. Then that begins to wane little by little with seemingly no precipitating cause. Until finally they completely remove themselves and discontinue all those works. Then people wonder what happened - why did that person leave. The answer is that they stopped doing their sadhana.

So long as they were doing sadhana they could properly manage all kinds of dharmic words. That sadhana was their food or energy or propulsion for doing all sorts of things in a smooth and easy manner. But as soon as that sadhana stopped, they no longer had the inspiration and mental force to carry out those various works and projects.

It is just like if everyday a person carries a 40kg box without any difficulty but then one day that individual is not given the requisite amount of food. Then for a day or so they will only carry a percentage of the weight they were carrying - say 15 or 20 kg. But as they are given less and less food - their capacity to carry anything will wane until finally one day they will completely desist from carrying anything at all. In this instance, the food was the energizing force for their physical involvement.

Similarly, in the psychic and psycho-spiritual realm, sadhana is the propelling factor for enabling one to continue their journey forward on the path of Ananda Marga ideology. As soon as sadhana stops, everything else will come to a halt - regardless of how active they were.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

That is why if we want new people to continue along the path then they must be encouraged with sadhana - not just external stories or superficial praise. Their sadhana experience will make them a veritable soldier to overcome all kinds of obstacles and difficulties and reach the apex of human existence. And not just for new people, every single Ananda Margii must properly maintain their daily sadhana, otherwise they interest and adherence to dharmic pursuits will wane - whereby even a long-standing, committed sadhaka will become a shadow of their former self.

So on this point of sadhana, no one is immune - no one is impregnable. For proof, just take a look around. Every single Ananda Margii is aware of new people who could not stick to the path, as well as seasoned Wts who abruptly left without any notice. Verily, the attrition rate in our Ananda Marga is high. So many come and so many go - never to be seen or heard from again. Because tantra is the path of Sadguru’s divine ideology and that demands sadhana. That is the sole contributing factor for being an ideal Ananda Margii and progressing on the path towards Him, Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, “And what is the essence of spirituality? The “I” of “I know” – “I know that I exist” – that “I” of “I know” is the essence of spirituality. You know so many things, but you have to know yourself. When you know your self, that stage, that stance, is the supreme stance. And for that realization, to know your own “I”, is your sádhaná, is your spiritual practice.” (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “With the strength derived from sádhaná the microcosms accelerate towards the Supreme Controller.” (2)

Magical, captivating moment

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Tomáre páoár áshe, tomáre pete páshe, maner mukure tava chavi enke gán gái..." (Prabhat Samgiita #0784)

Purport:

Parama Purusa, Baba, in the hope of getting You and having Your closeness, I am painting Your beautiful picture - visualizing You in my mental mirror, in my mind, in my citta. By Your grace I am doing dhyana and singing Your blissful songs of our relation and sharing of heart. My Supreme guide, please be gracious - I want Your proximity.

Baba, I always remember Your smile saturated with nectar. How You were looking towards me with eyes full of affection - mamata’ - socked with the nectar of love. That memorable, magical, and captivating moment, I cannot ever forget. Always I keep that precious memory in the core of my heart.

By Your mercy again and again I came on this earth to do Your work - sadhana, service, and sacrifice - and wipe away the tears of suffering living beings. The purpose of my life is to satisfy You - to please You. But after finishing that allotted work, I don't know where I went. That is not in my mind. Baba, by Your will now this time again I have come on this earth. I hear the resonance of Your divine, musical flute by which You are calling me incessantly. In response to Your sweet call, I am singing Your songs - dancing and rushing headlong  towards You. It is Your infinite kindness.

My Innermost, You are my everything, with the bond of Your love - You remain with me eternally...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #0784:

[1] Mamata': Mineness; In Sanskrit “mama” = mine, and the suffix ta’ = -ness; hence “mineness.” To have equal or more love for something / someone than one has for oneself.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "What is the meaning of “mamatá”? Mama + tá = mamatá. Mama means “mine” and thus mamatá is the inner idea of being mine, the feeling that something is my own." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "“Mamatá” means “mine-ness” – “Mama” means “one's own”, and the abstract noun derived from it is “mamatá” – meaning, thereby “mine-ness.”" (2)

For example, suppose you are suffering from a fever then naturally you will be concerned about your own health. You will try to cure yourself by going to the doctor and taking medicine etc. If you have mamata for someone else, then if they are sick with a fever you will have the same degree of care for their condition as your own. When one does sadhana then this sense of mamata grows and one ultimately has the feeling of mamata towards the entire created universe. Without sadhana, one’s sense of mamata will be extremely limited whereby one might only care about their own individual existence. So when the mind is extremely narrow one only has mamata for oneself. Those with a slightly broader mind have mamata towards their parents and family members. And as the circumference of mind expands one has mamata for other relatives and community members etc. However, it is only with sadhana that the periphery of mind can grow further and further wherein one’s sense of mamata includes all beings and expressions of this cosmos. Parama Purusa has mamata’ for each and every entity - this entire creation, all living and non-living expressions.

[2] Veńu / Flute: “The rhythm in which the vibrational flow of the cosmic mind vibrates the annamáya kośa of individual microcosms – veins, nerves, arteries, blood, lymph, etc. – is the initial stage of the divine cosmic sound. When this sound is heard in the anamáya kośa it resembles that of a cricket. When this cosmic sound vibrates the kámamaya kośa it resembles the sound of ankle bells. In the manomaya kośa it resembles a flute; ... in atimánasa kośa, the resonance of a gong; in vijiṋánamaya kośa the buzzing of bees or the rolling of ocean waves; and in hirańmaya kośa, a prolonged oṋḿ sound. Thus the cosmic sound is expressed in various ways according to the degrees of crudity or subtlety in relation to the fundamental factors. There are various physical and psychic expressions centring around the various degrees of cosmic sound. When one’s mind is confined to a particular stratum one hears the sound peculiar to that stratum only. A person who lacks concentration of mind cannot hear any expression of the cosmic sound. In the field of spiritual practice the divine sound is expressed in a spontaneous way.” (3)

Gloat over their ancestors

Namaskar,

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “With the noise of a bustling wind, people reminisce, “Oh, my grandfather accomplished this great feat… my aunt performed that marvellous work… our surname is Roychoudhury. For we were once great landlords…” Thus people always ruminate over their past and gloat over their ancestors, because they have no glorious present at all – everything is an empty void. When a community thus loses its inner wealth, then it tenaciously clings to the skeleton of its past and says, “I was this, I was that.” But they are unable to say, “I am this, I am that.” ... One must say, “Do not bother about what your ancestors have done. Why can’t you do...”” (1)

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “Táttvika, ácárya, purodhá and such terms represent one’s individual ability and are not hereditary.” (2)

Note: In His above teachings, Sadguru Baba is guiding us that in our AM way of life there is no scope to stand on the coattails of one’s ancestors. Doing nothing in the present moment and gloating about past glories is not our way. Moreover, in AMPS we do not hand the post from one generation to the next on a hereditary basis. So if one’s father was a family acarya, that same title, post, glory, and respect is not automatically bestowed upon the son or daughter. In our Ananda Marga, everything is earned based on one’s conduct, not one’s birth.

The various dogmatic religions and racist approaches pass down their titles and supremacy in a very nasty way from one generation to the next. Verily, they use the   inherently exploitative tactic of one’s birth to suppress and denigrate others. This occurs with so-called whites exploiting so-called blacks, and so-called brahmins exploiting so-called shudras. Casteism and racism are based on this horrific edict ordained by sub-humans.

Birth of new nasty dogma: AMPS India

Sadly, now this same disease is rearing its ugly head in our AMPS. A few are claiming that, “Since my uncle / great-grandfather / father was a family acarya, then I am of a special birth and fit to rule over AMPS.” And others say, “My family has been in AMPS for generations, and both my grandfather and my father were family acaryas etc, so on that basis I should also be granted a great seat in AMPS.” They think AMPS belongs to them due to their ancestry, and everyone else is a guest. Even though they themselves have not done anything in this life, they feel being the grandson of a family acarya is enough for all of AMPS to fall at their feet. This type of senseless, empty banter is crowding the airwaves on some forums.

Those who are true Ananda Margiis understand well that in our AM way of life, no positions of power are granted on a hereditary basis. All are the sweet children of Parama Purusa, and one is only able to lead our AM society by their sadhana, service, sacrifice and dharmic conduct.

In Him,
Harideva

Dogma of groupifying people

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Ananda Margiis have no caste or gotra. I have said before also that the division of humanity into Káshyapagotra, Bharadvájagotra, etc., is nonsensical. This is just to mislead people. If we look back in [anthropology] we will see that the forefathers of the present-day humans were apes or ape-men. So if people are very particular about their gotras, I will say to their faces, “Boys and girls! You belong to the ape gotra.”"
"We have all descended from our common ancestors, the apes. The same is true in relation to the castes. [One might try to argue that] the forefathers of the Bráhmańas were the ape-Bráhmańas and the forefathers of the Kśatriyas were the ape-Kśatriyas; but that just isn’t so. As apes do not have any particular caste, the present-day caste differences are all hypocrisy and maliciousness. You should remove even the least vestige of these nonsensical notions. You must not give credence to such things." (1)

Recipe for mental balance

Here Baba supplies us with the special formula for keeping mental balance and not succumbing to any type of superiority complex.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "People must always bear in mind that 'Whatever I have acquired is all by the grace of Parama Purus'a. If He decides that I should not possess wealth [or any other quality etc], He will take it away at any moment He wishes.' So no one should feel pride about anything under any circumstances." (1)

Note: By seeing everything as Baba's fathomless grace then we will not get puffed up with vanity and instead will be able to maintain mental balance at all times.
