Legend of this occasion + 3 More

Baba
Legend of this occasion

Namaskar,

March 5th is the day known as Dadhiici Divas, i.e. the occasion which commemorates those who valiantly sacrificed their lives for the great cause of dharma: Ananda Marga ideology. Here is further background and meaning about this great event which is one of our Ananda Marga festivals.

Legend: sacrifice of the great sage Dadhiici

As the story goes, the elderly Mahars’i Dadhiici was a great rishi who stood for the cause of universal welfare. And ultimately he sacrificed his life for the human society. In this mythological tale, it is told that when the devatas (pious people) and da’navas (demons) were fighting against one another, then in order to achieve permanent victory over the da’navas, the devatas went to Mahars’i Dadhiici for his blessing – and to get a boon from him.

Up until that point in the battle, the da’navas (wicked people) were winning the war. So the devatas (moralists) knew that something special needed to be done, otherwise they were sure to lose the war. And they also knew that Mahars’i Dadhiici had performed great penance in his life.

So the devatas approached Mahars’i Dadhiici knowing that if he gives the bones from his holy body then the vajra (mighty weapon like a lightning bolt) made from those bones will be enough to permanently annihilate the demonic forces. They knew it would take the bones of one great ascetic with lots of spiritual power in order to win the war. So only if Mahars’i Dadhiici sacrificed his life by giving his bones could the devatas be saved – otherwise not. With this in mind the devatas approached Mahars’i Dadhiici.

When they arrived at the doorstep of his ashram, the Mahars’i was deeply absorbed in sadhana. But knowing that they had come calling especially for him, he broke his meditation. And then after listening to the request of those devatas, Mahars’i Dadhiici agreed with their demand and he gave his approval for the plan.

Then the great Mahars’i Dadhiici permanently withdrew all the vital energy from his body through the practice of pranayama. By this way, the devatas (righteous forces) could make a weapon from the bones of his body and win the war. Thus Mahars’i Dadhiici gave up his existence for the great cause of universal welfare. That is the spirit of our Dadhiici Divas festival - honouring those who sacrificed their lives for Ananda Marga ideology.

Special point about Dadhiici

In India, martyrs are generally known as ‘shahiid’, which is an Arabic word. The common Hindi or Sanskrit term – Dadhiici – is not usually used. Here below Baba describes this in greater detail.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Those brave warriors who take part in the Islamic religious wars (jeha’dd) are called muja’hid in Arabic. Those muja’hids who give up their life in battle are called shahiid. Those who are victorious in battle are called ga’jii (if they live, ga’jii; if they die, shahiid). Similarly, those who give up their life in the Christian religious wars (crusades) are called “martyrs”. By what logic then do we call those brave progeny who give up their life for their country or for any other great cause shahiid? Instead, we can use the word dadhiici for them because Mahars’i Dadhiici sacrificed his life for the welfare of others. He did not lose his life in a jihad or crusade.” (1)

In His above commentary, Baba clarifies the meaning of the term shahiid and makes an explicit distinction between (a) those fanatics who die for the limited agenda of their dogmatic religion and (b) those great souls – dadhiicis – who sacrifice their lives for that all-expansive cosmic ideology.

Dadhiici is not the same as shahiid or martyr

Since then the term ‘dadhiici’ was born. It means sacrificing one’s life for the great cause – bhagavata dharma. Hence, according to Baba the term ‘dadhiici’ is distinctly different from those other terms which denote one who has given their life for their narrow and dogmatic religion.

Baba says:
“When Christians die for Christendom, they are called martyrs;
When Muslims die for Islam they are called shahiids;
When My children sacrifice their life for the ideals of Bha’gavat Dharma,
I call them Dadhiicis.”  – 5 March 1967

Therefore, it is every year on this day of 5 March that we remember all those great souls who have given their life for the establishment of Ananda Marga ideology.

Status & qualification of dadhiicis

Each and every sacrifice is important – each and every person who sacrifices their life to save Ananda Marga / bhagavad dharma has great importance. No sacrifice is of less significance than another.

Whether it be those who sacrificed that fateful day on 2nd April 1982, or those who were killed in the fight with the communists in Ananda Nagar, or those who did self-immolation, they have all sacrificed their life to save bhagavad dharma. So we should regard them all as equals - on the same pedestal, i.e. with great honour.

And here are a few more key points:

#1: If anyone dies for the cause of bhagavad dharma then they are a dadhiici, regardless of any other degrading behaviour they may have displayed in their personal life.
#2: In the case of Abhipremananda, he is not a dadhiici because he died in a group fight, not for upholding ideology.
#3: Nowadays, if anyone is killed in the struggle to establish margii rights or for the integrity of Baba's scripture etc then they are a dadhiici.

Conclusion

Baba has denoted 5th March as this day to recognise all those who sacrificed. Those who sacrifice in the future will also be honoured on Dadhiici Divas. It is Baba’s strict guideline that all dadhiciis will be honoured on this very day.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Kalpatru Deva

Beware: fake yoga pranayama

Note: These days hatha yoga / fake yoga pranayama is becoming quite popular. Yet by this way the common people are getting harmed. Because the philosophy of mind is: As one thinks so they become. So if their practice of pranayama is devoid of spiritual ideation, the mind will be submerged in mundane thoughts. Because the mind has to think of something; it cannot remain completely idle. Also bear in mind that pranayama multiplies the effect of one’s thinking. So if one is involved in mundane or degrading thoughts during their pranayama practice, that will be very harmful. Then those lower propensities will become more dominant. And that will bring about one’s demise. Unfortunately, both Buddhist pranayama and fake yoga pranayama are mostly like that - i.e. devoid of spiritual ideation. So beware. As sadhakas of Ananda Marga, we should always keenly apply the proper ideation when doing this lesson and bring more onto the path so they can save themselves from the ill effects of bogus pranayama.

Ananda Marga philosophy states: “Question: What is práńáyáma?”

“Answer: Práńáyáma is defined as: Tasmin sati shvása prashvásayoh gativicchedah práńáyáma. That is, “Práńáyáma is the process of breath control along with the imposition of the ideation of Supreme Consciousness.” It helps the mind in concentration and meditation.

“Question: What is the spirit of práńáyáma?”

“Answer: Pránán yamayati eśah práńáyámah. That is, the word práńáyáma literally means “controlling the práńáh [vital energy]”. The psycho-philosophy behind the practice of práńáyáma is that the spiritual aspirant tries to let the práńendriya [ten vital-energy currents] remain in a state of pause so that the paused unit mind will merge into the ocean of consciousness.”

“Question: How many types of práńáyáma are there?”

“Answer: There are two main types of práńáyáma: hat́ha yaogika práńáyáma and Yudhiśt́hira práńáyáma. When práńáyáma is done without fixing the mind on a particular point of concentration, and without imbibing Cosmic ideation, it is called hat́ha yaogika práńáyáma. But when práńáyáma is performed with the mind fixed at a particular point along with Cosmic ideation, it is called Yudhiśt́hira práńáyáma. [The eldest Pandava, Yudhisthira, was the first person to popularize práńáyáma according to this method.]” (1)

Main error in materialism

Here following is an English summary of Baba’s teaching from Shabda Cayanika - 10, originally given in Bengali.

When one suddenly finds any jewel - any rare and costly jewel - then immediately they pick it up and keep it close to their breast - leaving everything else behind, forgetting all other things, not even caring about their prestige. As far as possible one then keeps it hidden from others. Among all the jewels, the most precious is Parama Purusa.

Note: The common trait amongst all humans is that they love themselves the most. If they are inside of a burning building then first they will run out to save themselves, and then think about saving others. Even a loving mother who dotes on her small infant will think first about saving her own life. Because people are most protective of their own existence. For them that is most precious. What people fail to realise is that their own unit “I-feeling” is embedded in something greater than themselves. That’s to say, Parama Purusa is their greater self as He has taken His seat deep within their inner “I”. But due to the darkness of avidya maya, people fail to realise this truth. So they run after a plethora of worldly temptations, but never get satisfied. Whereas, the moment they get a small taste of Parama Purusa, then they do not want anything else. When by His grace, the sadhaka becomes fully ensconced in sadhana then they feel fully satiated and do not want anything else. And verily that is why they have been blessed with human life: To do sadhana and attain Him. In that case, no mundane attraction can ever bring satiation. Only the infinite Entity Parama Purusa can satisfy one’s yearning. And verily, Parama Purusa is not far; rather, He is your most precious and nearest One, embedded within. The aspirant should think that, “Parama Purusa is mine and mine alone.” And one should cultivate that feeling in their sadhana and hold Him in a deep embrace. Then one’s life will be successful.

Uniting all AMPS groups / religions: lowly idea

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Some intellectuals are in favour of respecting all religions. I say that such people cannot do anything to promote the solidarity of the human race, for most religions demand blind faith rather than rationality from their followers. “Don’t argue,” they proclaim. “Accept the teachings of the scriptures for they are the direct word of God.” The cunning intellectuals of the past imposed the importance of blind faith on the minds of their gullible followers. They told them to obey the teachings, rational or irrational, otherwise there would be no respite from the endless suffering of human life, no other path to take them to the eternal bliss of heaven.” (1)

Note: These days it is looked upon as great to respect all the religions. Especially when a tragic event occurs, the government organises various multi-faith prayer gatherings and rituals etc in an attempt to cultivate social harmony. But, as per Baba’s above teaching, that is the wrong approach. Those who strictly follow a religious doctrine do not use logic. They misguide their followers into believing that their outlandish belief and faith is the greatest, i.e. they alone have the real God and all others are fake - lowly heathens.

These types of gatherings featuring all the religions bring a tinge of unity that is as temporary as bubble of water. It will burst in a second. Then what is the way to proceed? The only way to unite all the peoples is to guide them that they must use their brain and become a true human being. Animals and religious followers do not use their rational intellect, only true humans do. So one should not follow any illogical precepts, regardless of the religion. If people understand and adhere to this fundamental code, the religions will fade away. People will realise this truth that humans evolved from chimps. And chimps have no race caste, colour, or difference; they are all one. With this understanding, there will not be any more massacres on the basis of caste or race. The problem of human infighting will be solved. Unifying all the religions is a mirage. Religion will only bring disharmony in society. So the well-wishers of humanity will be keen to discard religion. As a dharmika, don’t try to unite all the religions.

Prout: Key point about contesting elections

Prout philosophy states, "Sadvipras are not inactive witnesses. They are active participants to see that no person or class exploits the rest. For this they may have to resort even to physical violence, because the sadvipras will have to strike at the source of the power [of the class] which is tending to become the exploiter. In case the kśatriya class are becoming exploiters, the sadvipras may have to resort to physical force, and in an age where the intellectual or vipra class are dominating, they will have to bring about a revolution in the intellectual field. In case the vaeshyas are dominating, the sadvipras may have to contest and win elections, because the vaeshya class rules by democracy, and the democratic set-up enables them to accumulate undue gains." Re: How rich wts exploit poor wts

Namaskar,

Take the tragic case of DS(L) Salem (Tamil Nadu) in South India. Didiji became terminally ill and no one from the organisation helped her. The only option then was for her to return to her laokik home in WT dress to get proper treatment. There was no supportive efforts from the orgnaisation. Because nepotism & apathy have taken hold of our Food, Care, & Medical Dept  wherein one only gets care if they are part of a certain click or faction and ready to lay down their life for group interest.

Here let us not also forget the tragic incidents of Ac Shantatamananda Avt, Ac Nirmeghananda Avt, and Ac. Asheshananda Avt. All three of these respected avadhutas lost their lives due to neglect. They failed to receive the requisite medical care and attention. The organisation overlooked their health and essentially abandoned those Dadas in their hour of need. In result, they needlessly died a premature death. It was all quite preventable had they received the standard of care.

Re: Police coercion vs persuasion

Namaskara,

How can acaryas act this way? It happened to me, in a way. I am a simple margii. I suffered the loss of my wife to breast cancer. Many other terrible things happened. But that was the worst. At a certain point, Baba showed up. The experience was very real, unmistakable. Fortunately, I was blessed by Him.

It is a sort of lilla, with Baba. How can anyone think that Baba is not watching everything? We act so incredibly stupid on this point.

No one gets away with anything. I forget the term of constant remembrance that the Guru is watching. All acaryas should practice this. He is watching and you can never not be in His sight.

It is quite amazing - a phenomenon, I would say - that acaryas and margiis forget that Baba is watching. So this fear that has evaporated because Baba left the body, that is a delusion. Acaryas that acted out of fear then might as well act out of fear now. The same Baba is watching them this very moment. They should be even more frightened that they may not get His Grace and rather be at the mercy of merciless Prakrti.

The wrongdoers have distanced themselves from Baba. They, too, will experience His Grace, one hopes. The only problem for them is that the higher the spiritual progress, the more dangerous the fall. So these wrongdoers, instead of doing wrong, should be extra careful. They put themselves in a terrible predicament.

Those who remain on the path and practice the awareness that Baba is always watching are the true leaders of Ananda Marga.

Baba's Grace,
Bhaskar
