Role of viksubdha shudras

Namaskar,

As we are living at the height of the vaeshyan (dishonest rich men) era, and the shudra revolution is the next phase of the social cycle, it is incumbent upon all Ananda Margiis to be keenly aware about the term viksubdha shudras. Because without viksubdha shudras [awakened people], there is no Proutistic revolution. So the question arises, what / who is a viksubdha shudra [awakened person].

Shudras drowned in animalistic enjoyments

In very brief we can say that in the general society there are four basic mindsets: vaeshya (corrupt rich man), vipra (intellectual labour), ksatriya [martial-minded people], and shudra [animal minded human] etc. Remember, here we are not talking about the Indian caste system, but rather one’s prevailing mental tendency or psychic inclination etc. A shudra [animal minded human] is anyone engrossed in eating, sleeping, procreation, and their day to day toils. They do not have any plan other than fulfilling their animalistic desires etc. According to Prout, such persons are shudras [animal minded human]. They do not have any ideology and they are not willing to work towards or die for any great cause.

Disgruntled workers are not viksubda shudras

Some uninformed people take the phrase - viksubdha shudras - literally and translate it as “disgruntled workers.” But that is wrong. For example, if you translate Parama Purusa literally, the meaning is “absolute male.” When in fact the real meaning is Cosmic Consciousness. Or if you translate Newtown literally you might come up with “fresh village”, when in fact it refers to a town in Connecticut (USA). Similarly viksubdha shudras cannot be translated literally to mean “disgruntled workers”; rather we have to explore the meaning of the term within the greater social context.

So then - on the practical level - who are these vikshubda shudras. In brief, they fall in two broad categories.
A) ksatriya-minded viksubdha shudras [martial-minded awakened people].
B) vipra viksubdha shudras [intellectual-minded awakened people]

Ksatriya-minded viksubdha shudras [awakened people]

1a. All those guards, firefighters, emergency workers, security staff, and military personnel who work in the society are ksatriyas [martial-minded people] because they are involved in martial jobs etc. And they have the tendency to do and die in their service; they are not cowards. They are heroic.

1b. If those ksatriyas doing martial types of jobs etc. are unaware about the exploitative ways of the capitalist regime, then they are shudra-minded ksatriyas. Those ksatriyas are completely ignorant of the dire fact that they are just pawns of vaeshyan (dishonest rich men) exploitation. The vast majority of ksatriyas - i.e. those doing martial jobs etc fall in this category. They are shudra-minded ksatriyas [animal-minded martial].

1c. However, in society, there is a small percentile of ksatriyas - those doing martial oriented jobs etc - who realise they are getting exploited by capitalist leaders. Internally, they are no longer willing to tolerate the current conditions. With their forceful action they are ready to risk everything, rise up, and put an end to the vaeshyan (dishonest rich men) era.

1d. This small team of awakened security / police personnel are ksatriya-minded vikshubdha shudras [martial-minded awakened people]. They will bring revolution.

Vipra-minded viksubdha shudras

2a. All those teachers, professors, clerks, scientists, engineers, and verily all those involved in intellectual jobs like professors, lawyers, accountants, counselors and writers are vipras (intellectual labourers). They have the tendency towards psychic pursuits. In order to prove their point they debate, discuss, and try to convince others. They are vipras (intellectual labourers).

2b. If those vipras (teachers, professors, clerks, scientists, engineers, and those doing intellectual jobs etc) are not aware about vaeshyan / tycoon exploitation, then they are shudra-minded vipras (intellectual labourers). They are just in the dark about how the capitalists are pulling all the strings in society. They fail to realise that they are getting cheated and exploited by those capitalists at every turn. So they are shudra-minded vipras (intellectual labourers).

2c. Yet, in society, there is a small number of vipras (professors, lawyers etc) who are deeply cognizant of the fact that those vaeshyas [corrupt rich men] running the society are exploiting everyone. Their hearts and minds are filled with the energy and vigour to eradicate all such capitalist exploitation. So they are ready to give speeches, write essays, and lend their psychic support in all sorts of ways to raise the flag of revolution and overcome the capitalist era.

2d. This exclusive community of awakened counselors, lawyers, and teachers, professors, clerks, scientists, engineers, and those doing intellectual jobs are known as vipra-minded vikshubdha shudras [awakened people]. They will bring revolution.

Life for ksatriyas & vipras (intellectual labourers) miserable

Here vaeshyan (dishonest rich men) era means that materially rich people are ruling over and exploiting the other classes. For example, where vaeshyas [corrupt rich men] are ruling the other three classes are getting exploited. The intellectuals, military and police personnel, and common folk are all exploited in the vaeshyan (dishonest rich men) era. When vaeshyan [corrupt rich men] exploitation rises,  then the purchasing capacity of the rest of the population goes down. The rich become richer, the middle class diminishes, and poverty increases. In the height of the capitalist era, the middle class does not have sufficient money to own a home or send their kids to college. And those in the middle class go bankrupt if they become sick or need extensive medical care. Many even become homeless. This becomes the norm in the vaeshyan / tycoon  era.

Life for the ksatriyas [martial-minded people] and vipras becomes miserable, and most of them curse their fate and do not understand how and why they are getting exploited. But some of them do understand - they realise that the wealthy are influencing the markets in their own favour and not giving proper wages to all those who labour and toil for them. Due to heightened frustration, such people become the vocal critics of the ruling capitalists. And again, this happens because they have lost their purchasing capacity and their entire existence has become quite precarious and unstable. These types of people who understand the cause of their suffering and are alert about vaeshyan / tycoon exploitation are vikshubda shudras [awakened people]. They see that the rich are the problem as those wealthy capitalists have amassed their riches from everyone else’s pocket.

Conclusion

They key cog for bringing shudra revolution is the vikshubdha shudras [awakened people], who are of two types: (a)  ksatriya-minded vikshubdha shudras [martial-minded awakened people], and (b) vipra-minded vikshubdha shudras. These two types of workers will put forth the requisite energy and sacrifice to overthrow the ruling capitalists. Once these two types of people are created through mass awakening, then the Proutistic revolution will take place.

Kśatriya or vipra mentalities transformed into the...slaves

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “As a result of vaeshya [corrupt rich men] exploitation, those having kśatriya [martial-minded people] or vipra mentalities are transformed into the ... slaves of the vaeshyas. They have no alternative but to toil at the behest of the vaeshyas [corrupt rich men] to fill their bellies. Those kśatriyas [martial-minded people] and vipras who are turned into shúdras under circumstantial pressure carry a simmering discontent in their hearts. This group are known as the “vikśubdha shúdras”...”.workers – the exploited vipras and kśatriyas – give systematic expression to the frustrations of the masses to end vaeshya [corrupt rich man] exploitation. This is the class with revolutionary distinction.” (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In a capitalistic social system or in a democratic structure the situation of middle-class people (the vikśubdha shúdras) is generally miserable. This is because they are the greatest critics of capitalism and the strongest opponents of exploitation. An increase in the number of vikśubdha shúdras [awakened people] in a society is an early omen of a possible shúdra revolution. It is therefore the duty of those who want to create a world free of exploitation to help to increase the number of vikśubdha shúdras. It will be harmful for the revolution if these people die or are transformed into shúdra-minded shúdras [animal-minded human]. All the sadvipras in the world should be vigilant to make sure that the number of vikśubdha shúdras does not decrease.” (2)

Beggar vs sadvipra

Ananda Marga ideology states, “According to our philosophy, when consciousness arises in individual life then a person begins to move in accordance with certain instructions, certain guidance. In collective life as well, when this stage comes, those who are well advanced, who understand better, who are more courageous, more firmly established in morality, who are truly righteous, they have to take the lead, to assume the mantle of leadership. In such times those who worry about what others will say or think, or worry about being criticized, and due to this fear hide behind closed doors thinking that if they take action their good name will be tarnished, such people are not true human beings. They are beggars, begging for reputation. They have no manliness; they have lost the courage to move ahead. At that time those who come forward and say – “Let’s go. I’m with you. If trouble comes, let it come. I’ll take it on my shoulders” – such people I have given the name sadvipra.” (3)

New era at our doorsteps

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “This is the way it has been and the way it will always be. However, in collective life at the critical juncture between one great age and another, in this transitional stage of great change, when it becomes impossible for the common man or even ordinary sadvipras to take up the leadership, then Parama Puruśa through his special grace arranges that leadership. At this time on the earth humanity is witnessing such a yuga sandhi. On one side there is the rubbish heap of the past and people are clinging to that rubbish heap because they have not yet been shown the way out. And on the other side, there is the call of the new. Under such conditions what will that Mahásambhúti do who gave guidance to the human race in the past? With courage he will call to human beings and declare: “Give up the rubbish of the past. It can only harm you and lead you to your death. Move ahead. Answer the call of the new. I am with you. There is no reason to be afraid.” (4)

I have come to fulfill Your desire

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Tomáre bhúle bhesechi akúle, karuńá karo he krpá nidhán..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2206)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, remaining forgetful about You, my whole existence is floating aimlessly without any spiritual goal. Sometimes I think I have to get this mundane object or that material gain. By this way, my whole life is getting wasted. O' Karuńá-Personified, please bestow Your compassion and mercy upon me. Kindly save me from avidya maya. My days pass in meaningless or negative pursuits. I remain oblivious of the krpa’ which You have showered upon me. You have granted me a human body and mind, but I could not use these precious gifts to do sadhana.

O' Parama Purusa, You have sent me here on this earth to do Your work: sadhana, seva, and sacrifice. I have come here to fulfill Your desire, follow Your command, execute Your task, serve everyone, and fill this world with colour and beauty. You have given me the duty to bring happiness in the lives of all living beings, after wiping away their tears, and filling everyone's heart with bliss.

Baba, there is still some time remaining before I die. If I get a wee-bit of Your grace then what cannot happen. Everything is possible. My only request is that You bless me with Your varabhaya mudra. With that strength I can go on completing all Your allotted tasks. I can continue singing Your song and spreading Your glory always, serving all with the ideation of Narayana...

Why dharmikas are few in number

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Suppose there is a virtuous discussion going on somewhere. If you invite two hundred people to this discussion, you will find that only sixty invitees have turned up, at the most. Out of these participants about ten or twelve people at most listen with patience and devotion to the talks; and out of these listeners, only some properly understand the subject discussed. Then again, out of this small group that has understood, only a very few may retain in their minds what they have understood. Lastly, only one or two persons of this last group may practice in their daily lives what they have learnt and understood. This is only due to the clash between vidyá and avidyá in the mind, and in this clash the triumph of avidyá or the extroversive force means running from the introversive bent of vidyá. It is because of the saḿskaras of animality that the introversive momentum is rare in the average human mind. The sensuous desires of avidyá continue to infiltrate into every thought process. Such a situation continues for a long time in a sádhakas life.” (1)
