Never openly display + 3 more

Baba
Never openly display

Namaskar,

As per Baba’s guideline in Caryacarya, at various functions like the marriage ceremony, baby naming ceremony, or even dharmacakra and akhanda kiirtan etc, Baba’s photo is not allowed. Nowhere in any Ananda Marga book has Baba given permission.

Before 1990: strict control

(a) And indeed before 1990, there was strict control over the display of Guru’s photo to ensure it was not placed in view for any social function or ceremony like dharmacakra, shraddha ceremony, marriage ceremony, baby naming ceremony etc. And that is what is written in Caryacarya. In Ananda Marga Caryacarya, the guideline is very clear regarding the use and non-use of Baba’s pratikrti, i.e. photo of Marga Guru.

(b) So in various social gatherings - the photo should not be displayed. In those circumstances, only the pratik should be on the puja table - per His guideline in Caryacarya.

(c) Unfortunately, nowadays, Baba’s photo is on display while sympathizers, new people, half-margiis, and passerbyers are present. Yet when such persons lack the inner feeling of bhakti for Guru, it is completely inappropriate and against Caryacarya to have the pratikrti [photo] on display. Because bereft of any spiritual outlook those new margiis or non-sadhakas etc do not look upon the photo with due reverence. Rather, they think it is dogmatic, ritualistic, or idol worship. That is why the photo should not be displayed. And that is what is written in Caryacarya.

Caryacarya: Baba’s photo not allowed

When half or new margiis have not yet cultivated a sincere meditation practice or engagement in Guru sakash, and do not have developed bhakti, then by seeing the photo they think that Ananda Marga is just another Hindu dogma. They think it is just some form of idol worship. And even worse they think that we are going against our own Ananda Marga philosophy and ethic. With the end result being: they get clashed out and walk away from Ananda Marga completely.

And verily Baba guides us that when doing pracara we should not highlight Him but rather propagate His ideals. That is how we are to establish Ananda Marga on this earth.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "A study of history will make it clear that a strong and healthy society has not yet evolved on this planet. This is mainly due to the inadequate propagation of an ideology. Although at different times a few people thought of establishing a strong and healthy society, they used argument and debate instead of deliberation and reason to convince others of the need for such a society, and ultimately ended up projecting themselves instead of the ideology. Thus the ideology became secondary and was ultimately swept away because people started worshipping them as mahátmas [elevated souls] or mahápuruśas [spiritual beings]. Due to the absence of an ideology a strong society could not be established, and many defects crept into individual life." (1)

So the photo is for bhaktas only, for their personal bhakti. That is the hint given in Caryacarya.

In Him,

Caryacarya says, "You shall protect, in all respects and at all costs, the dignity of your treasures and the sanctity of your flag, of your emblem, and of the pratikrti [photo] of Márga Guru." (2)

Overflowing with delight & jubilation

“Tumi ásiyácho tamah náshiyácho, duhkher udadhi shukháyeche…” (Prabhat Samgiita #0620)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, You have graciously come and removed my darkness - all the ignorance and bad samskaras of my mind. Because of Your infinite mercy, the ocean of misery has dried up, and now my mind is full of bliss. O’ Parama Purusa, You have loved me; You are present in my heart, smiling. Because of You, the flower buds have burst into bloom.

Baba, those menacing clouds that had accumulated in the northeastern sky of my mind have floated away. Because of Your arrival, all the gloominess has departed and gone somewhere else. You melodiously played the flute and filled everyone’s heart with smiles and joy. You have spread Your floral aroma everywhere. You have filled the whole atmosphere with that sweet fragrance.

O’ Lord, the mental agonies and sufferings of those neglected and dishonoured people, who were marginalized and lying in the dust, have been removed. Because of You, all their miseries are over. The hearts of those suffering people are now overflowing with delight and jubilation; their exuberance has inundated this entire cosmos.

Baba, Your august arrival is magical….

Bogus idea: “Everything is destiny. Everything is preordained.”

In the past and in the present also, those in power have used the notions of fate and predestination as a tactic to exploit the common people. If everyday citizens feel that the hell they are facing in their day-to-day life is a matter of fate and there is nothing to be done about, then those people will be easier to control and manipulate.

Now in the height of this materialistic era, the top capitalists employ the clergy, chaplains, and counselors etc, and those paid clergy, chaplains, and counselors are effectively able to convince the common people to sit back and accept their fate. By infusing this psychology upon the masses, then vaeshayas feel assured there will not be any uprising against them.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The vaeshyas use the vipras to try to spread intellectual propaganda among the masses to prevent them from finding any philosophical justification for their suppressed grievances against the vaeshya structure. This intellectual propaganda aims to convince people that they are the victims of circumstance. It argues, “Everything is destiny. Everything is preordained.” Such doctrines help the vaeshyas to perpetuate their structure. They destroy the personal force of people and make them the playthings of fate. People accept the idea that everything is preordained, and support the status quo." (1)
