Key to bring positive change + 4 more

Baba

Key to bring positive change

Namaskar,

Most think that the best way to improve society is to engage in some constructive work such as building roads and engaging in social service projects etc. They mistakenly think by this way they can bring about a good result. But Baba warns us about this type of approach.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "I will bring relief to all – this very thought is something very noble, very sweet. For this very reason He [Krsna] brought social consciousness to people at large. Without arousing social consciousness, it is next to impossible to bring about social welfare. It may not be possible to bring about social welfare through constructive programmes [building roads/ social service projects etc] and through the struggle against injustice alone; social consciousness is indispensable." (1)

By the above guideline two points are very clear.
[#1] Arousing social consciousness is very important. Without arousing social consciousness, it is next to impossible to bring about social welfare.
[#2] It is not possible to advance the cause of social welfare by solely engaging in constructive programmes like building roads and doing social service projects etc.

Making a hue and cry & raising awareness

For example, nowadays in our AMPS, people have gotten frustrated by the way the organisation is running. So in their naivete they decided that by hook or by crook they should engage in some 'constructive work / building roads / social service projects etc'. Because in their limited view they think this is the ideal way to serve the society.

Following this pathway, they go off on their own and start their own Master Unit, build roads or dig wells, form their own service project, or even start their own social service organisation etc. Or they resort to other ways in order to do something concrete for the world. But Baba warns us that such faulty approaches will not stand in the long run.

Because ultimately we have to form one unified human society. Best is to bring the point to the awareness of all so the matter can be properly and conclusively resolved.

Raising consciousness of masses brings victory

Prout philosophy states, “Before launching any movement, you should make sure that the masses are conscious of their exploitation, otherwise the movement will not be successful. Although it may take some time to raise the consciousness of the masses, ultimately you will be victorious.”
Prout philosophy states, “A leader of the Maethilii community in Bihar wanted to start a movement against the exploitation of the Maethilii language, so he organized a massive rally and started to lecture the people about the suppression of Maethilii. Initially, everyone listened to him attentively and supported his ideas. At the end of his address he told the masses: “We will live for Maethilii, we will die for Maethilii.” But one person amongst the crowd shouted out: “Yes, we will live for Maethilii, but why should we die for Maethilii? Rather, I choose to die in Kashi.”... Immediately all the people started supporting this view, and as a result the meeting was disturbed. This happened because the people were not conscious of the suppression.” (2)

With this Proutistic vision for bringing about social change, the minds of the people get awakened and aroused and they gain a heightened social consciousness. By this way truly positive changes are made.

Revolution is dream unless victims are educated

So those who think that doing constructive work, like building roads and doing social service projects etc, is the first and foremost means to serve the world cannot bring true welfare to society. Rather, they end up creating more divisions and factionalism or they allow existing problems to fester by failing to raise awareness. This we have seen in the past and will see in the future also.

For effecting social change and serving society in a meaningful and lasting manner, arousing social consciousness is absolutely essential.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "I will bring relief to all – this very thought is something very noble, very sweet. For this very reason He [Krsna] brought social consciousness to people at large. Without arousing social consciousness, it is next to impossible to bring about social welfare. It may not be possible to bring about social welfare through constructive programmes [building roads/ social service projects etc] and through the struggle against injustice alone; social consciousness is indispensable." (3)

Secondly, some people think that to improve society they must wage a war against injustice. They think that by this way the world will become better. But here again Baba directly warns us that this approach also will not work.

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "It may not be possible to bring about social welfare through...the struggle against injustice alone." (4)

Prout philosophy says, "Revolution may not take place unless the exploited masses are psychologically prepared for revolution. If the people do not support revolution, the clarion call for revolution will not be heeded." (5)

Why revolution will not take place

For example, in the hoary past, when slavery was at its peak either in the US, Egypt, or wherever, then merely waging a war against those slave-owners was not effective. Because those slaves were being fed and housed by those slave-owners and many of the slaves were thinking that everything was alright. Their masters were providing them with hearth and home; so those slaves were not thinking that anything was wrong. And they did not want to see anyone opposing and fighting their masters. In that case waging a war against those injustices will not be fruitful. First those slaves need to be educated and made aware that they are being exploited.

Similarly today, if one attempts to stand up against the ruling vaeshyas, then many people amongst the common mass will not support that fight. Because those people think that they get their bread and butter from those capitalist business leaders. And if those capitalists are torn down then the people think they will be without food and water. Or they simply feel obliged and indebted to those ruling capitalists. Or they themselves wish to be like those vaeshyan rulers one day.

Whatever the case may be, in the above circumstances, with regards to those ruthless slave owners and the blood-sucking capitalists, even though there is the presence of massive exploitation, fighting outrightly against that injustice will not bring about true social change because the people are not ready to support that stand.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

About this Baba has given His clear-cut guideline.

Prout philosophy says, "Before the revolutionary organization gives the clarion call for revolution, there must be intensive preparation. In spite of the presence of all the conditions for revolution, revolution may not take place unless the exploited masses are psychologically prepared for revolution. If the people do not support revolution, the clarion call for revolution will not be heeded." (6)

For this reason Baba warns us that merely fighting against injustice cannot bring welfare to the world.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "It may not be possible to bring about social welfare through...the struggle against injustice alone." (7)

Consciousness raising needed

In order to bring about real positive changes to the world, key ingredient is - social consciousness.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Without arousing social consciousness, it is next to impossible to bring about social welfare." (8)

Hence to truly uplift humanity there must be wide-spread education amongst the common people - raising awareness whereby their eyes are open and their mind is
awake. So arousing social consciousness is the first and most important step towards bringing lasting positive change to the world.

Here again in His below teaching Baba furthermore emphasizes the need to arouse social consciousness amongst the people.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "In order to save humanity from economic exploitation (whether politico-economic or psycho-economic), you must raise the people's consciousness, otherwise they will never be able to successfully resist psycho-economic or politico-economic exploitation." (9)

Thus whether in our AMPS or in the general society, one key point for doing real service and creating that wave of positive change is heightened awareness about the exploitation of the day - arousing social consciousness. Once the people are awakened to the fact that exploitation is rampant, then in a united away they will rise up and eradicate exploitation. All will be be united - and this applies to our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha as well.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

AMPS now & then

In our own Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha it was just some time ago that some margiis were not aware that groupism was rampant in AMPS. In that case, some of our margii brothers and sisters were not ready to hear or listen to any plans or ideas about fixing the problems. But now the requisite social consciousness has gradually been aroused; all are becoming aware about the unsavoury dealings of the various group leaders etc. People feel there is an urgent need for everyone including those at the helm to follow Baba's teachings. On this foundation of understanding, step by step we are getting in prime position to bring about all the changes needed to create that seamless Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha organisation that is firmly rooted in Baba's ideological teachings. Ours will soon be that Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha which will lead the whole humanity from darkness into light.

Dhyana and levels of sadhakas

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "In the fourth phase the relationship is just like a piece of paper; the unit consciousness of the spiritual aspirant is one side of the paper and the Cosmic Consciousness of Parama Purus'a is the other side of the paper; they are inseparable, one cannot be removed from the other. By His effulgence the unit existence, the existential faculty of the aspirant gets lighted, gets illumined. With His illumination the aspirant is to move forward and enjoy the Supreme Beatitude and the Supreme Composure." (1)

Note: Here above Baba is indirectly guiding about the last part of the practice of dhyana - which every sincere sadhaka practices regularly.

In meditation, the lowermost bhaktas think that God is in some other world. A practical example of this is that in 1990 those types of lowest bhaktas created the so-called shraddha purport whereby they recited something similar to this: “O Parama Purusa, in the past You were with us and now You have left us - You are very far away in divya-dham (divine world) - beyond our reach. From there You please bless us.” This is the central idea what our so-called great, great purodhas did in October 1990. This is the sign of lowest grade bhaktas. Because in their mind, Parama Purusa is very far away - somewhere in a very far away different world.

The next grade of bhaktas think that God is here in this world (loka) - “He is within my reach but He is a little far.” This is better than worst grade but not very elevated. The next stage of bhakta feels that, “Parama Purusa is my very near and He is my relation - father, or even my close intimate friend.”

And the highest grade bhakta is what is described above in Baba’s teachings. So this is a brief description of the various grades of bhaktas.

One should remember that sadhana is the effort to go close to Parama Purusa, and slowly the degree of closeness reflects the types of relation one has with Parama Purusa. So if a person thinking that Parama Purusa is very far away in another world then they are lowest of the low because the distance is far and they have to travel a lot.

If you think that He is your close, intimate friend then you are very close to Parama Purusa. But the most close to Parama Purusa is what is described in the above teaching. In the last stage, the unit mind merges into Cosmic Consciousness, and jiiva becomes Shiva.

Some of the qualities of Sadguru

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "In the Vedic language, the word 'guru' is derived from the root 'gur' plus the suffix 'un'. The root 'gur' means 'to train others how to speak, how to behave in a dignified manner'. The Guru teaches us to follow a methodical way of life. To love is not the only work of the Guru. One who only loves you is your enemy, and one who only punishes you is also your enemy. But the one who both loves and punishes in a balanced way is the real Guru." (1)

Note: Along with the Guru-disciple relation, this aforesaid Baba's teaching is equally applicable in (a) ideal parent-child relations, (b) ideal "shraman'a"-trainee relations, and (c) ideal teacher-student relations.

And the following stanza from Prabhat Samgiita #4528 projects this same idea:
ápan bolei karo shásan,
duhkhe sukhe ápanár jana
ándhár ráte mańir matan,
álo jvalo tákáini,
bhuleo kabhu bhávini

Lowly mentality of filmmakers

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Seduced by the bestial instincts hidden in the secret recesses of their minds, people surrender to base propensities. But improvements in education and the social environment can help to bring this beast under control and make it obey their commands. To achieve this the first thing people have to do is to wage war against their animal propensities, which is no easy task. So cunning exploiters, by encouraging animality, are able to bring people under their sway."
"The cinema industry suffers from this malady. This industry is controlled by a handful of business persons who make films according to popular taste and demand. While ordinary people naturally run after those films which in their ideas, language or visual images cater to their base propensities, such ideas, language or images instantly distort the ideals of the idealist beyond recognition. It is quite in character for purely commercial film producers to exploit these human weaknesses to their own advantage, and this is exactly what is happening." (1)

If the wrongdoer dies then... + 2 more

Baba

If the wrongdoer dies then...

Namaskar,

Some say that if a person has committed egregious errors, and that individual has already died, then their actions should not be analysed or reviewed. We can find the correct answer to this issue in Sadguru Baba’s own example and teachings. And that is what is discussed below.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Society would not have gotten the lesson

Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji has taken advent as the third Mahasambhuti on this earth. Parama Purusa takes human form when the situation is dire and He comes to give guidance for how to progress. During the Mahabharata era, society entered into a period of great trial and transition. Mahasambhuti Lord Krsna took birth to guide the masses. By knowing who opposed Him and who supported Him, the general public learned a lot. For instance, if no one had written about Duryodhana, Dronacarya, or Bhiisma, then society would not have gotten the lesson about their sinful dealings. People would not have learned that they should not behave in this way.

On this matter, Baba carefully evaluated the character of those leaders from the Mahabharata era, and in turn society was greatly benefited. So recording the history and educating people about the past holds great importance. This time also, with the advent of Mahasambhuti Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji, it is of tremendous value to delineate who supported Him and who opposed or deserted Him. By getting the how’s and why’s, i.e. the full picture, humanity will learn vital lessons. People cannot learn by theories alone - examples are needed, both good and bad. So everything must be included in the historical record.

If history is not written, a dangerous cycle emerges - the ensuing generations make the same mistakes as their forefathers. They do not get the opportunity to learn. That is why history is preserved in various forms - museums, books, photographs, artifacts etc. Both the glorious and infamous tales are collected and preserved. After all, human life is comprised of both good and bad actions and by knowing how people conducted themselves in the past, society advances. In our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, if we swipe away large swaths of history and just keep record of a few rosy incidents, then the present and future generations will be at a terrible disadvantage. People will not get scope to learn from those past experiences.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Dark & bright: both sides of history are important

When we talk about how Baba was in jail and how those demonic forces wanted to burn and destroy Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, then the question arises: What did those Ananda Margiis do? How did they respond? What pitfalls did they meet and how did they overcome the obstacles? The Emergency period is an important aspect of our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha history. It is a step-by-step tool for how to handle adversity and deal with challenging circumstances. We know negative forces attacked and harmed AMPS. Then we also have to tell what happened within our Marga. Who stayed - who left - how did common margiis and Wts survive. Similar trials are bound to crop up in the future.

With the spread of Ananda Marga teachings and the advancement of Prout, margiis will face opposition from the status quo - and many will leave. When Prout becomes a greater force in society then those Prout leaders and social revolutionaries will have to overcome tremendous adversities. In that case, it will be useful for them to know how in the past Ananda Margiis dealt with similar conditions in their day. That history will be very useful for them. Those who persevere and keep the saffron flag upright should have access to the full history. This will give them insight and inspiration, and it will also serve as a roadmap for how to proceed. History is an important tool and it should be duly noted. That is also why Baba has given a special discourse on the need to keep a full historical record of the various events etc. Because that serves as an excellent teaching tool and reference for future generations.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Margiis should know who deserted & who fought

With regards to the Mahabharata era of more than 3,500 years ago, Sadguru Baba has recounted in detail the actions of Duryodhana, Dronacarya, and Bhiishma etc. He did not refrain from telling their story because they had died thousands of years ago. Rather for the welfare of society, Baba outlined the details of key incidents in their lives as regards the battle for dharma etc. As Ananda Margiis, we have benefited tremendously from these stories and teachings. Anyone who reads Baba’s book - Discourses on the Mahabharata - will get numerous important life lessons and learn how to stay true to dharma in times of adversity. Same is the case by reviewing the actions and moments of those margiis and Wts who lived through the Emergency period. By this way so much is learned: How some remained true to Baba and how others betrayed Him. So there is no question of not recounting that history because some of those people have since died.

Some say that since Baba pardoned those deserters then one must no longer talk about that period. Yet by portraying how people erred and how Baba graciously pardoned them, then one gets the teaching how and when to pardon others. So the historical record is rich with teaching for all - no matter who you are. Let us also bear in mind that Baba pardoned Kalicharan the murderer who became Kalikananda the avadhuta. Thus Baba pardoned him and recounted the history for all to know. So just because someone was pardoned does not mean that their history could not or should not be told.

Valmiki was a robber who became a great poet and saint. Yet Baba does not hide or cover up Valmiki’s past. Rather by learning about who Valmiki was and what he became, the common people gain a lot of inspiration.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

In AMPS, so many tragedies happened:
A) Various dogmas have been introduced;
B) Bhukti Pradhana rights have been curtailed;
C) Innocent wt's have been expelled;
D) Baba's holy teachings have been altered;
E) AMPS has been divided, etc.

The names and actions of those who committed such black deeds should be recorded in AMPS history. People should get scope to learn from this history, so that a similar tragedy may be avoided in the future. This is what Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us. If someone committed egregious errors, regardless of whether the person has already died or is still living, their actions should be analysed and reviewed. That will be beneficial and suited towards the welfare of all.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Karmayogii

~ In-depth study ~

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The annals of human history should show which communities brought about which amount of progress and prosperity in which area of social life and in which part of the world – only such significant events are worthy of being recorded. History should also maintain special records of the trials and
tribulations which confronted human beings, how those trials and tribulations were overcome, how human beings tackled the numerous obstacles to effect greater social development, and so on. Only such history would I call the complete history or complete cultural history of the human race.” (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “I suggest that in the writing of history there should be a radical change. The history written so far is a history of kings and monarchs. It should be thoroughly overhauled and completely rewritten – rewritten in the interest of humanity and the universal well-being of the human race. If the chronicles of history merely describe who succeeded to the throne and when, who plundered the neighbouring countries or kingdom, and who became a minister, they will be of no importance whatsoever, nor, indeed, of any interest to the common masses. If human beings are to profit from the study of the annals of history, they must reflect the weal and the woe, the hopes and aspirations of the masses.” (2)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “While writing history we will have to consider the various spheres of human life and ensure that proper directions are given for the development of each sphere. For instance, history should focus upon the prevalent educational system, cultural standards, thoughts and ideas, dress, the social condition of women, the role of women in the social and economic spheres, and the socio-economic conditions of the weak and backward communities of the society of a particular age, etc. If any of these aspects are omitted while writing history, it will be incomplete….you should write a new history of the human race by your collective endeavour. The history that you will write in future must unequivocally reflect such important factors as how human society has evolved through trials and tribulations; what difficulties were confronted and how human beings overcame them and moved towards their goal with firm steps; and how even today they are advancing by solving numerous problems.” (3)

Special grace to have Baba dreams

Svapne táre dekhechinu
Svapne hálo paricay
Svapne bhála besechinu
Dekhechinu premamay.

[I saw Him in a dream
In dream I made His acquaintance,
In dream I loved Him,
I called to Him, “O Lord full of love.”]

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In the lives of many people, a time may come when their days are full of the thorns of miseries, but at night, during dream, they transcend their pains and pleasures. Then, meeting their Iśt́a in dream, they beam with joy and laughter in the ocean of bliss. All the sufferings and sorrows of their lives, great or small, merge into that indescribable ocean of bliss. Those who experience this type of dream are truly fortunate. It is they who can say,”

Cokhe dekhá pái náko
Dekhá hay mane mane
Se milan sundara
Sakala duhkhahara
Svapne báṋciyá tháki
Bhule tháki jágarańe.

[I do not see Him with my eyes,
I see Him in my mind;
In that beautiful meeting,
All sorrows disappear;
In dream I am alive –
In waking, I forget.]

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Even in the waking state their lives are drenched in the drowsy sweetness of that dreamy atmosphere, and then in their lives, that dream becomes a reality. As a result, the waking state for them becomes meaningless.”

“Then cannot those dreamy persons do any good to the society? Yes, certainly they can, and in a better way. This state of drowsiness is not dullness or crudeness; rather it is the golden opportunity to fully utilize one’s existence by touching the feet of Táraka Brahma, as long as there is life.” (1)

Re: India: “श्रद्धेय shraddhey” dogma & PP

Re: India: “श्रद्धेय shraddhey” dogma & PP

Namaskar,

Some believe that postholders should be revered. This is the dogmatic idea held by various organisations like RSS idea. They respect and salute the dress or the post not the person. But in Ananda Marga, the main thing is ideological conduct. Without proper conduct, one is not worthy of respect.

Ananda Vanii states, “Your ideal is represented by your conduct. Your learning, your social or economic status have nothing to do with your ideal.” (Ananda Vanii #13)

Wt conduct rules: “Workers should have the dignity of labour and not the dignity of post. They have nothing to do with promotion, demotion or reversion.” (Point #33 of 27 Workers Rules)

In Him,

Kiirtana & gandharvaloka

Baba says, "The following describes how and to what degree human beings are aware about their own unit consciousness (Shiva'tma). As well as how they come in contact with their shiva'tma."

"For example, it is just like when one looks in the mirror then one does not see their real self, but rather a reflection of that. Or it is similar to when one awakens from a deep sleep then they can recall only part of their dream, and some aspects of their dream they cannot remember. Or perhaps, more precisely, they can only remember a reflection of their dream-- and not the dream itself."

"In contrast, there are other occasions where one looks at their own reflection in the water and they can clearly see their reflected image. But still that is not one's entire being. It remains but a reflection. Just like if one sees a reflection of a mango in the water then that is just a reflection and not the real mango."

"In reality only we come in contact with our unit consciousness when we sing kiirtan and some bliss comes. Then we come in contact with our shiva'tma."

"So in the spiritual field one comes in contact with their own unit consciousness after singing spiritually vibrated music like kiirtan or bhajans. For this reason, such type of devotional chanting or singing is highly essential in the life of a sadhaka. And when one comes in momentary contact with their own unit consciousness while singing kiirtan this is known as Ghandharva loka. One can only feel the bliss of kiirtan when their mind reaches into Ghandharva loka." (1)
