How to catch falsehood + 4 more

Baba

How to catch falsehood

Namaskar,

In this vaeshyan era, advertisers are notorious for booming their messages over and over again to consumers through countless media channels. With a constant stream of propaganda 24 / 7, they are able to influence people in various ways and put forth numerous falsehoods based on how a person should look, eat, drink, think, act etc. This is how they get people to buy their products - by booming their message until people accept it as a truism in their subconscious mind. After getting indoctrinated in this way, those naive people repeat and discuss those same ideas with others. In this way, the spread of those faulty notions multiplies.

How communist leaders spread false news

In communist nations, the leaders always project their false propaganda by booming their message again and again. They repeat their bogus views until the common citizens hold those ideas to be true.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Communism has survived long after the death of Marx. It survived only due to the force of arms and constant booming. If constant booming is done for something, then people start thinking that there must be some truth in what is being propagated...Communists are doing constant booming about their theory. Due to this people are being brainwashed, and at this stage it is very easy to inject incorrect ideas into their minds. By constant booming of their wrong theory they are creating their supporters." (1)

So communist leaders themselves repeat their false party propaganda time and again, and by this way draw a legion of followers who accept that communist propaganda as true.

A similar thing is going on in our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha organisation. Take the case of the various tiirthas or so-called holy sites. One group says that Jamalpur tiirtha is the "holiest place" and another group says that Tiljala is the "holiest place". Some think one place is the most important and others think another place is the "holiest". They each think that Baba is tied to their so-called holy land and resides there. For the margiis then, it all depends upon which group influences them most.

How to get the right understanding

As sadhakas we must be able to discern between truth and falsehood, otherwise we will be misled. According to Baba we must use our viveka or discriminating faculty.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Now, human beings are capable of judging between right and wrong because their minds are somewhat developed, but the minds of creatures other than humans are not so developed. Because of their undeveloped minds, they cannot follow the path of rationality, the path of discrimination, which almost every human being can. Those who say that there is no need of study – “Leave your books aside!” – are incorrect. Study is essential, knowledge is essential, and association with learned and enlightened people is essential. Listening to learned discourses, studying and understanding the scriptures, all have their importance." (2)

By educating oneself about Baba's divine teachings, that sadhaka will be able to develop the requisite viveka and hold the course of dharma and not be swayed by groupist agendas.

Blind people cannot discriminate between proper & improper

If however anyone fails to adhere to Baba's tenet and does not study Ananda Marga ideology, then their plight will be similar to that of the bird in Baba's below teaching.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "But animals less-evolved than humans are incapable of this. They cannot follow the path of rationality or conscience. The more-developed animals merely follow the path of sentiment. When an animal likes something, it runs after it; when it does not like it, it does not run after it. For instance, a dog runs toward a piece of bread without looking to either side. Or, for example, some grains of rice are spread under a net. Suddenly a bird catches sight of the grains and alights on the ground. It thinks: “Let me go down and eat them!” So it is caught in the net. But had it pursued the path of rationality, it would have thought: “Hmmm, rice is strewn in such a remote woodland! This is unnatural. There is neither a village nor rice fields nearby – so this is indeed strange. Let me think this over for a while… Aha! A net has been spread and ropes are laid on all sides. I must not alight there!” This is the way of logic. But if it follows the path of sentiment it will alight and be caught in the net..." (3)

In His next teaching, Baba warns us about falling prey to any kind of sentiment like groupist sentiment.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "If someone moves along the path of sentiment instead of the path of rationality, there is a hundred percent probability of great danger. Those who move along the path of sentiment do not discriminate between the proper and the improper, but merely silently accept all superstitions surrounding the goal towards which they have been running. Even the least question regarding propriety or impropriety does not arise in their minds, because they are moving along the path of sentiment." (4)

Conclusion

In this situation, where all the group's are fast propagating their own gospel, the only way to keep firm to the path is to study Baba's divine teachings. And one should be keenly aware that the campaigns stemming from a particular camp will contain news tainted by a given agenda.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The best remedy then is Baba's divine teachings. He has given so many discourses. Only when one is cent-per-cent familiar with Baba's eternal guideline can one keep away from the group agendas. We are not to believe on hearsay. Otherwise, one will invariably be misled and get lured into following a particular group, instead of Baba's dharmic teachings. As Baba guides us, study is very important. That is the only way to uphold, protect, and follow Ananda Marga ideology.

Baba says, "Study is essential, knowledge is essential, and association with learned and enlightened people is essential. Listening to learned discourses, studying and understanding the scriptures, all have their importance." (5)

Namaskar,
In Him,
Sudeva

Nowadays, we all receive news instantaneously from all parts of the globe. The news arrives via news sites / newspapers, discussion forums, blogs, emails, text messages, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, television, cell phone conversations, and all kinds of ways. A key point in all of this is how to gather, receive, and best understand that news. How are we to know what is true and what is false - not just about news of the general society, but news from within our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha as well.

~ In-depth study ~

Truth is one - not many

In reality however, the universal truth is always the same, not many. Here are some common examples:
(a) 2 + 2 = 4; it will never be that a 2 + 2 = 3, 6, or 9.
(b) a triangle has 3 sides; it will never be that a triangle has 11, 12, or 14 sides.
(c) a healthy dog has 4 legs; it is not the case that a fit dog has 1 or 7 legs.

These statements are true in all conditions. They are singular in nature not plural. There are not multiple truths. The truth is one. Same is the case with Ananda Marga ideology. It is one dharmic truth - not many.

Repeat “truths” till margiis believe it

In this following teaching, Baba describes the irony of how various religious factions or sects each claim to offer the supreme truth, yet each faction offers a different message.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The supporters of each and every scripture say, “Ours is the message of God, it is the supreme word.” Then if all the scriptures are messages of the same Supreme Being, why do they vary from one another? The Supreme Being is one, and if all the scriptures are messages of that single Supreme Being, then there should not be any variation amongst themselves. This shows that those scriptures are not the messages of that Supreme Being." (6)

Similarly, the theology of various groups differ from one other yet each claims that theirs is the message of Baba. And this leads to serious problems.

Each group promotes their own false propaganda - or their own separate set of "truths" - which gets repeated again and again until all the margiis in their group buy into that propaganda. By this way, margiis of different groups grow very far apart because they are all adhering to a different "truth". Thus the schism deepens.

In this way there are many examples of how each group does booming about their own false notions to their followers. Each group claims to be the path of truth yet all have distinctly different propaganda.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Indoctrinate their followers into their agenda

There are some margiis who think that the observance of mahaprayan is ok and they are telling their friends to participate because it is "consistent with Ananda Marga philosophy". In that case, how can one accuse those innocent margiis of spreading dogma. It is not their fault. Rather some Dada injected this dogma and told them to celebrate mahaprayan and those people did not read and study Ananda Marga scriptures to find out the truth. So they got misled by that hearsay. Those margiis participating in the archaic and dogmatic mahaprayan function are not to be blamed. They were given faulty instructions.

Then there are some who belong to a specific group. Whatever group they join they are taught certain defective ideas and dogmas by those group leaders. This applies to all the groups. They indoctrinate their followers into their own agenda items. Those receiving messages from a particular group should be aware that they are receiving one-sided news, i.e. false propaganda advanced by a factional think-tank.

If the person or place from where you are gathering your news is faulty, or if that person is getting their news from a weak source, then you may be receiving incorrect news. This especially happens when the person telling you the news does not himself realise that what he is telling you is faulty. So with an earnest mind and sincere voice he conveys news to you, yet the information he is repeating is itself spoiled. This is one common way that wrong ideas get propagated.

For instance, some religions or religious sects preach that the world was created in six days. The priests propagate this notion. In response, their followers carry this message to all whom they meet. Because in their heart they believe this dogmatic and false notion. When the source of the news is himself devious, then news may reach your ears via other people yet you may not even realise that those things are incorrect. These are but a few examples from the general society where the common people unknowingly spread false news to others. The root cause is that they are being fed faulty ideas which they hold to be true.

Today my spring season is passing away in vain

“A'ji mor vasant jhariya' ja'y avahela'y…” (Prabhata Samgiita #1153)

Note for Prabhat Samgiita #1153:

Spring season (vasanta): In this song, the end of the spring season means that the bhakta has been anxiously waiting for Parama Purusa and now at the end of this spring season, still He has not come. It is utterly heart-breaking for the bhakta that still Parama Purusa remains away.

In the hope of His arrival, so many decorations and preparations have been made: flower blossoms, new leaves, a sweet breeze. Indeed the whole atmosphere has been made beautiful by nature for His divine reception. But alas, He has not come and now everything is withering away. This entire episode portrays the deep melancholic longing of the bhakta. That is the basis of this entire song.

The song can also be interpreted that because of not getting Him close, the spring of the bhakta's life is gone - the bhakta’s good days are getting wasted. The bhakta is thinking: My best days are passing by and You are not coming.

It is just like how the beautiful spring season, with its colourful flower blossoms and tender green leaves, gets overwrought by the hot summer when the burning wind dries everything up and the whole earth becomes brown.

So this song can be understood or interpreted on two levels. It can be taken on a more literal level wherein really the spring season has passed in waiting for Him. Or the song can serve as a metaphor for how one's good days (the spring of one's life) are gone and still He has not come close.

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, due to Your “indifference” towards me, my spring season [1] is passing away in vain. It is getting ruined due to Your neglect. The good times are passing me by. There was a time when sadhana was going well and You were appearing in my dhyana. I had Your company, and would receive Your grace. But today in my mental grove a hot wind is blowing; everything is getting dry.

Baba, now the sweet, fragrant breeze has completely disappeared from the flower garden. The lush green beauty, the rolling grass, and the canopy of trees are all scorched and covered with dust. My spring season is passing me by. The climate has become completely suffocating and unbearable. O’ Parama Purusa where are You? Your presence will be a soothing balm.

O’ my loving One, I am not finding You anywhere, my most charming Entity. Please come and smile in Your heart-pouring manner, in Your ever-new attractive form in this difficult hour. Please come and show the path and guide those bewildered people who have lost their way. Please bring this person on the right path. You are my everything. Except You, no one is mine. You are my everything. Without You, my mind is restless; please come close. Without You, my spring season is passing in vain...

New perspective on psychology

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "According to general belief, psychology is a part of general science, and should therefore not be included as a part of philosophy. Thus psychology has been accepted as a branch of science in the West. But in A'nanda Ma'rga, psychology has been included as a part of philosophy. Moreover, according to A'nanda Ma'rga the scope of psychology is wider than what is usually accepted by psychologists." (1)

Note: Often we find in the west that psychology is taken as an intellectually dry subject, or some utopian idea, or something that does not have a link with our higher Self. Universities commonly categorise psychology as one of the social sciences. This started primarily because the western approach to psychology is dry - i.e. aspiritual. It does not have any link with the Supreme Entity. In true sense, the western approach towards psychology lacks sweetness and spiritual feeling. Perhaps that explains why we find that many western psychologists lead imbalanced lives.

In contrast, Baba's teachings in His book "Yoga Psychology" are completely different. This subject not a purely intellectual study, but a practical approach that is deeply connected with spiritual life. So it is our duty to remove the confusion in the mind of non-margiis about the subject of "psychology" and give it its rightful place.

Mahaprayan of one great margii

Baba

Mahaprayan of one great margii

🙏 Dear brothers and sisters in Him

It is with sadness that we announce the mahaprayan of a fellow devotee Mr Gina Singh from Johannesburg, South Africa on the 17 of January 2018.

Gina was initiated in 1984 and received PC in 1986 - during the floods. He loved Prabhat Samgeet and Kirtan- being himself an accomplished singer and musician.

A few months back he was one of the members of an entourage from South Africa who visited India- following Baba's trail from Jamalpur through to Ananda Nagar and Amjharia. I sure that many will remember him for the Kirtan he sang in Amjharia.

He will be sorely missed for the vibrant role he played at our DCs and retreats.

Gina will also be missed by the community for his weekly presentation of a radio program aptly titled Ananda Parivar. Gina was truly Baba's son.

He leaves behind a proud legacy, a devoted family - a wife, four children and grandchildren - all committed to the ideals of our beloved Baba.

Warm Namaskar,
Amrit

Note: We regret that we could not send this out in timely manner. Our apologies. - AM Universal Moderators

~ In-depth study ~

We have seen that when somebody dies then in offering their condolences people say now Mr So-and-so is sitting on Baba's lap. On other occasions when telling a Baba story people also say, "Such and such person sat on Baba's lap." But these days the trend is that "sitting on Baba's lap" is used more in connection with death. And that causes some confusion in reader's mind. To unknot the situation please read below.

Dogma: if "on Baba's lap" only used for death

Here are quoted lines from recently posted emails on various forums, wherein the writer uses the phrase - "in Baba's lap" - with the occasion of death:

- "May Parama Purusa Baba accept her in HIS divine lap"

- "May his soul rest in the lap of our beloved BABA"

- "Now she is taking rest in Baba's Lap."

- "May Baba accept him in HIS divine lap....."

- "May he rest in HIS loving lap of eternity."

- "We are sure that Baba has taken him in His loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in Baba's lap forever."

- "Let her rest peacefully in Baba's Lap - which she always desired."

- "now he is in beloved Baba's lap"

- "May his soul get peaceful place in His lap"

- "He is now in Bábá's loving lap"

- "May Baba bless him with a seat in His lap."

- "May BABA accept him in HIS divine lap!"

- "May Baba take him in his eternal loving lap."

- "May his soul rest in peace taking shelter in Baba's lap."

- "Please keep him on Your lap forever."

- "We all collectively pray to Baba to take him on Baba's divine lap forever.”

All of the above lines are commonly written in eulogizing the deceased. These days mostly it is used in a eulogy and rarely used to recount one's intimate spiritual experiences - unfortunately. By this way, the phrase "in Baba's lap" is being misused and step by step the real meaning is being forgotten as now people more commonly use the phrase to eulogize those who have died, and much less so to express their inner feelings of bhakti. Unfortunately, the meaning and inner spirit of the phrase is getting lost.

Baba story: "sitting on Baba's lap"

Some time ago after dharmacakra, a senior margii was recounting his experiences of having dharma samiiksa with Baba. He said, "After being lovingly scolded by Baba for my wrongdoings, then He called me close and placed me on His lap - I remained there for some time soaking up His love - and He blessed me."

We all enjoyed hearing about his personal account with Baba during dharma samiiksa. When he finished telling his factual and historical event, there was a call for questions. Various people posed their queries. Towards the end, one new margii raised his hand and asked, "How did Baba bring you back to life?"

Everyone stared at the new margii in amazement. There was a look of astonishment all around - people were really shocked to hear him say this. The new sadhaka sensed that something was wrong He said very matter-of-factly, "I thought that sitting on Baba's Lap means that he (the margii) died - that is why I asked that question."

This was quite eye-opening for those of us in the room: Through our language and expression we had unknowingly taught someone to think that being on Baba's lap is the equivalent of death. Because it seems that nowadays people only use the phrase "Baba's lap" when a person has died, such as "Let him rest peacefully in Baba's lap", as if in order to sit on Baba’s lap one has to die. But that is false. Sincere sadhakas regularly sit on Baba’s lap in their meditation. It is His grace. It is just like a child need not die in order to sit on his father’s lap.

The idea is that this phrase - Baba's lap - has been linked with death due to extreme overuse. So for some time if sadhakas use this phrase exclusively for spiritual purposes, that will be best. The phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", should not meet a similar fate. It should not lose its pure spiritual quality and just refer to one's death. That will be very negative.

Baba would bless bhaktas and place them on His lap

There are tens of thousands of recorded stories by sadhakas where they use the phrase, "on Baba's lap", when describing their experiences of being with Baba: He used to bless them and bring them on His lap. People should understand the deeply mystical value of this expression, and not just think that Baba's lap means death, i.e. that you can only sit on His lap at the time of death. Still today there are thousands of margiis walking this earth who sat in Baba's lap. And not only that, there are countless more sadhakas who were blessed by Baba in dreams and sadhana wherein they sat in His lap. And still today this deeply intimate experience is attainable by sadhakas, by His grace.

There are so many ways an aspirant can reach unto Baba's lap including in sadhana. That is the main idea that should be preserved. Sadhana is a spiritual practice and one can sit on Baba's lap in sadhana. We should make it cent-per-cent clear to one and all that the phrase, "sitting on Baba's lap", does not mean death.

"Mahaprayan" means death of mortals - confirm for yourself
from the Samsad Bengali-English Dictionary

Mahaprayan (Death): Many are aware that mahaprayan (death) is the common term used in India and especially in our Bengal to describe the death of any human being, even ordinary people. In that way, the obituary columns of the newspapers of Bengal regularly cite the mahaprayan (death) of various persons of society who died or passed away.

Some may get confused and wrongly think that the word 'mahaprayan' (death) is one extraordinarily term of bhakti to be used in association with Parama Purusa. But that is not at all the case. Rather to do so is only to undermine the eternal presence of Parama Purusa. That is why no bhaktas ever use the word 'mahaprayan' in reference to Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna. Because Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna exist eternally. Then there is no question of Their mahaprayan (death).

Baba is Parama Purusa so He is eternal and there is no question of His mahaprayan.

Here it should be known that the convention of an annual death day ceremony (i.e. shraddhainjali or mahaprayan) is a foundation of the Islamic tradition. Muslims are well known for this, and their approach of an annual death day ceremony was adopted by the leader of a particular group in AMPS. So no one should think that mahaprayan is some type of sacred event. It is done on the death day anniversary of Muslims.

And for those who need still more technical proof then all this can be clarified quite readily by referencing the dictionary. Specifically in the Samsad Bengali-English dictionary 3rd edition on page 848. Checking there it will be confirmed that the word 'mahaprayan' means death. Which is why it is used to refer to the passing away of even common citizens. And that is the case in this letter also. The term mahaprayan means death and this is the ideal term for this purpose.

Mahaprayan is only for humans not for Sadguru

Here it should be qualified that there is both real mahaprayan and fake mahaprayan. Real mahaprayan marks the death of any ordinary human being, just like the aforesaid news. This is the proper use of the term: To note a person's departure from this earth. That is the meaning of the mahaprayan term and that is the standard way the term is used in Indian languages.

Then there is the fake, or so-called, or dogmatic mahaprayan. That is when certain vested interests try to apply the mahaprayan term to Parama Purusa. This is grossly inappropriate because when Parama Purusa Sadguru Baba is that Divine Entity who is beginningless and endless and resides always in our heart, then it is entirely wrong to proclaim that He is gone.

That is why rational margiis are protesting; because the Oct 21st program is so-called mahaprayan. So-called means that something is fake. Parama Purusa is eternal, thus for some vested interests to declare "mahaprayan of Parama Purusa" is nothing but so-called mahaprayan.

Mahaprayan only really happens in the case of human beings, not Parama Purusa. Those doing mahaprayan for Sadguru are hypocrites. On the one side in meditation they ask His grace thinking that He is ever-present, and on the other side they think that Baba has passed way. That is their hypocrisy.

Fake love + 5 more

Baba

Fake love

Namaskar,

Are eco-groups and animal rights groups neo-humanistic? Some raise the banner, “Aren’t all those animal rights groups and eco-groups in the west concerned about animal welfare.” The first reply is that many of those conservation groups subscribe to eating meat etc.

Secondly, those eco-oriented animals rights organisations have their limited agendas:
(a) so-called restoring ecological balance for hunting for fun;
(b) fighting for their own selfishness on this earth so they can continue hunting.
They got involved in environmental problems to support a meat-based diet. Those activists are inherently selfish and indulgent.

Some activists may be internally sincere in their desire to help animals, but in general they do not feel that those animals are expressions of Parama Purusa and that we are to serve Him by helping those animals. So the overall perspective of such advocacy organisations is not one of true seva and neo-humanism.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

History: animals have their special status

In the west, the rampant mistreatment of animals is fueled by the selfish, dogmatic outlook of the Semitic religions which states, "Animals are made for us." Because of this defective outlook, factory farming, hunting for sport, the meat- based diet, and so many other infringements on animals’ rights are pervasive throughout the western hemisphere.

The situation with regards to the treatment of animals in India is comparatively better. No doubt there are some pitfalls, but at the same time it has to be recognised that those early rishis of 15,000 years ago preached the spiritual ideal that all are the expressions of Parama Purusa. And this pure premise filtered down to the Indian masses generation after generation.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The thoughts and ideals of India are quite different from the other countries in the East. Since ancient times, India has been adhering to her distinct pra'n'a dharma. Regarding life and the world, the Indian people are certainly spiritually inclined. They look upon each and every thought and deed as part of their spiritual practice." (1)

And it is with this prana dharma firmly in mind that so many proper practices have been implemented in life such as a purely sattvika diet as well as a long-standing belief that animals have a right to live on this earth. Those animals have their God-given status and inherent value. And when things went overboard and the Aryans came from outside and started doing huge animals sacrifices and turning the rivers into pools of blood, then great souls like Buddha and Mahaviira Jain echoed the words of those rishis of old and came forward and opposed those cruel sacrifices. Though now in this modern era, the number of meat-eaters in India has dramatically increased, as the population has fallen away from the teachings of those ancient rishis. Verily, there has been an ongoing, steady degradation in India over the past few hundred years with the influx of the Semitic religions and the rise of materialism.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Pashupati: Lord Shiva and God of the animals

Ananda Marga philosophy adheres to the standard of neo-humanism. Using that as a guideline, it has to be recognised that the moral and ethical treatment of animals in India is higher than in those Semitic oriented countries like the US that are dominated by the selfish outlook that "animals are made for us - for human enjoyment."

This idea was never present in the Indian mentality. And one proof of this is that one of the names of Lord Shiva is 'Pashupati' - i.e. Shiva is not just the God of humans but of animals also. Certainly Shiva taught sadhana to animalistic humans, but that is not the only reason why He is called Pashupati. Mahasambhuti Shiva cared very sweetly for animals and preached this ideal as well.

Since long in India it has been known that through samskara theory humans evolved out of animal life. This also helps one recognise the value of animal life. This is commonly understood within the Indian philosophical tradition. Here the point is not to glorify the Indian outlook. It has its defects and has been certainly by infiltrated by the Aryans, Muslims, Britishers, and Christians etc. But at the same time we should recognise that those early Himalayan rishis who preached Samgacchadhvam, the yogic ideal, and other great teachings were also well aware that humans are to watch for the welfare of animals. And this message filtered down to the masses.

And still today, the common people in India will readily say, "What right do I have to hurt those animals, when those animals are the expression of God'. How far they follow this cent-per-cent in their life may vary - but this idea is commonly embraced. That is a significant step higher than the typical materialistic outlook: "Animals are made for my enjoyment."

So comparatively speaking, India's treatment and regard for animals is higher than that of the west, and that is all due to the respective religious outlooks of those lands. The Semitic religions preach that animals have no soul and are here for human consumption, while the spiritual outlook of the Indian subcontinent is that every being has its God-given place and should thus be respected. This is the long history and divergent views of western and eastern religion etc.

Conclusion

But in this ever-changing world, it is quite apparent that now the unfortunate turn of events is going on where India has begun rushing headlong after materialism. Sadly, they are slipping into the capitalistic trap whereby animals are nothing but a means to an end. On the plus side, a greater number of westerners are trying to leave materialism and are harbouring a strong desire to fashion their life after age-old eastern truths. This switchover is going on. However, the tables have not fully turned yet. So comparatively speaking India's view towards animals more closely resembles the gold-bar standard of Ananda Marga and neo-humanism.

It is ironic that westerners blame those brothers and sisters in the east and in so-called developing nations, when the mentality entrenched within the Semitic religions is the real cause behind animal cruelty. By Baba's grace we will personify His teachings and spread the message of animal welfare to all - thereby eliminating, once and for all, the degrading Semitic belief that "Animals are made for us - for human selfish enjoyment".

Namaskar,
In Him,
Jayanta
(James Davidson)

The religions have a big effect on the mentality of the people. And in the traditional Indian outlook, various animals like the monkey are highly regarded as being so-called deities or mounts to the attainment of Brahmahood. And the obvious plus point of such religious beliefs is that they have helped infuse a certain respect towards the animal kingdom among the followers of that faith. Because the people truly believed that animals are not just lowly creatures for human consumption, but rather expressions of divinity etc. Whereas in the Semitic faiths, this type of regard for animals does not exist.

~ In-depth study ~

Ananda Marga is far above

In Ananda Marga, our vision and perspective towards animals is pure and unblemished. Baba has given all the ideal teachings and has pointed out the prevailing dogmas.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Hindus worship cows as something holy, apparently because they give us milk. But if cows are revered as mothers for giving us milk, shouldn't buffaloes be given a similar status? Actually, buffaloes give more milk than cows. Unfortunately, the blind religious followers refuse to listen to logic as their religious sentiment for cows has taken root deep in their minds. People are fed these ideas since childhood, so later on it becomes impossible for them to discard them." (2)

So our ideal is neither western, nor eastern - neither American, nor Indian. Our ideal is the neo-humanistic vision which Baba has given. That alone can save the fate of animals on this earth. With Baba's grand teaching of neo-humanism, then surely the future of animals is bright and one day animal cruelty will be fully eradicated.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "All molecules, atoms, electrons, protons, positrons and neutrons are the veritable expressions of the same Supreme Consciousness. Those who remember this reality, who keep this realization ever alive in their hearts, are said to have attained perfection in life. They are the real devotees, the real bhaktas. When the underlying spirit of humanism is  extended to everything, animate and inanimate, in this universe - I have designated this as Neohumanism. This Neohumanism will elevate humanism to universalism, the cult of love for all created beings of this universe." (3)

So in Baba's divine teachings of neo-humanism, we are to immerse our mind in His cosmic flow and realise the interconnectedness of all - that all are but expressions of Him. Fueled by the fire of this neo-humanistic ideal, then naturally one will act as a benevolent guardian - serving one and all and watching for everyone's welfare, be they human, animal, plant, brick, or stone.

How cruel human beings are

Here Baba points out the short-sightedness of the Semitic religions etc.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The vulture stayed patiently in the tree. It came to eat the cow’s flesh only an hour after her natural death. Human beings are more cruel than vultures. Their hearts don’t melt even at the sight of tears of innocent birds and animals. Just to gratify their sense of greed, they mercilessly slit the throats of animals with sharp knives and swords and thus deprive them of the right to live, even while preaching the hollow dictates of religion." (4)

Neo-humanism guides us, "Human beings led by self-interest have been neglecting ecology at every step. We should remember that the sky and air, the hills and mountains, the rivers and forests, the wild animals and reptiles, the birds and fishes and all sorts of aquatic creatures and plants are all inseparably related to one another. Human beings are an integral part of that vast common society. No one can survive to the exclusion of others, not even human beings. If they continue to destroy forests, kill wild animals and exterminate fishes and birds foolishly, it won’t serve any of their purposes. Whoever comes onto this world goes. One only survives on this earth for a limited period as stipulated by nature. Due to the foolishness of human beings many creatures and objects will not survive the period fixed for them by nature. Prior to their stipulated period of longevity they will be swallowed up by eternity. Human beings due to their utmost folly have annihilated numerous objects and thus prepared their own funeral pyre. Such folly on the part of human beings is unbearable. Human beings must be cautious from now on. They must restructure their thoughts, plans and activities in accordance with the dictates of ecology. There is no alternative." (5)

People cry out “You exist, O Lord, I also exist!”

The following is from Baba's book, "Namah Shivaya Shantaya".

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In the first stage of human life, when people notice the colourful processions of various tanmátras such as form, taste, smell, colour and touch, they immediately become attracted towards them. The entire universe appears to be a grand caravan of many colours; it seizes their senses and their minds rush after it, taking it to be the goal of life. In the first stage, this enchanting material panorama propels people from their inner world to external life. If at that stage, someone tells them to move towards the internal world, they become irritated and annoyed. They think, “Oh, I'm quite fine here!” Blending their colours with the colours of all, strolling on soft carpets of green grass, they think, “All these things are meant for me!” This material-oriented existence is the first stage of human life. At this stage, one wants to express only one thing with the whole of one's being, and that is, “I exist, only I exist.” The material world is the subtle blend of hard and soft.” (6)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, Trials and tribulations compel people to ponder deeply; sorrows inspire them to analyse the law of cause and effect. Their wounded hearts want to be soothed with a healing balm from an entity greater than themselves. They realize then that there is an Entity greater than their little selves. Whatever might be their relation with that Entity, and whether that Entity is within their reach or not, they cherish the hope of gaining something from Him: they cry out, Tráhi mám páhi mám [“Save me, protect me”]!” (7)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Then they change their mental tune and say, “I exist, You also exist.” When this relationship of hope and fulfilment fails to remove their internal dissatisfactions, when the greenness of the external world fails to moisten the desert of their minds, when the seeds of their desires do not sprout, then they realize that they will have to go still deeper inside – the key to the solution lies deeper within. They are still within locked doors and windows; in search of the key, they move inwards, but they are unable to find it. They do not feel that they are even near a guide – far less in close association. Concentrating all their mental anguish, they begin to shed tears in their minds, and beating their heads, say to the unknown Lord of their life. Parama Puruśa is the Supreme Cognitive Faculty; nothing is outside Him. He too feels the inner agony of despairing people in the core of His heart, and shows them the soothing path of enlightenment. Then those despairing people cry out in the exuberance of their joy, “You exist, O Lord, I also exist!” (8)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “They continue to move into the inner world. The charming allurements of the external world no longer keep their minds in thrall. The dazzling splendour of form and colour, their glittering attraction, no longer evokes any response in the innermost recesses of their minds. The radiance of the colourful world and the effulgence of their inner life become one. The indriyas externalization and internalization of tanmátras from the external world then appears to be a play of Máyá. The external world merges into the internal world, and ultimately there remains only one Entity – “You exist, only You exist.” (9)

Advocacy groups are not God-centered

And for those who few who may be internally sincere in their desire to help animals, in general they do not feel that those animals are expressions of Parama Purusa and that we are to serve Him by helping those animals. This is not their outlook. So the overall perspective of such advocacy organisations is not one of true seva and neo-humanism. Although such groups may seemingly be doing good work - they are not based in neo-humanism. Because they don’t believe that this whole cosmos is the expression of Parama Purusa and that we have come to this world to serve others - including plants and animals - and watch for their welfare. The fact is: No eco or animal rights group has this God-centered, neo-humanistic ideal in mind. Rather they are motivated by a selfish outlook.

For this reason, none of these eco or animal rights groups are on par with Ananda Marga. And in 99% of the cases they have their own particular side agenda in mind. Yet they are all our brothers and sisters and it is our bounden duty to guide them as best we can. And to guide them properly, neither should we be in awe of their work nor should we despise them as people. Rather ours should be a balanced approach where we recognise their shortcomings so that we may best help them to advance.

Key points for a long life

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Spiritual practice makes the mind calm and quiet, and maintains the nerves in a state of equipoise; and thus spiritual practice increases longevity. Those Vaishnavites who are vegetarians, who regularly sing spiritual songs, do meditation, perform virtuous deeds and think pure thoughts, live longer than ninety years." (1)

Note: By following the spiritual cult of Ananda Marga and abiding by general health rules every sadhaka is ensured a long and healthy life. That is Baba's guarantee.

Limited scope of human perception

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “In this visible world you receive tanmátras in accordance with your strength and ability. When the tanmátric vibration is more powerful than your strength or capacity, you are unable to receive it. Similarly, when the vibrational momentum is more slow and slack than your power of perception, you cannot receive it either. If people whisper in a soft voice, you cannot hear them – there you become deaf. Then again, if there is a very loud noise somewhere nearby, you cannot hear that either, for your hearing has been stunned – here too you are deaf. Your system may easily endure petty mental afflictions and in that case you do not cry before people. Then when you are filled with extreme grief you become so dazed and bewildered that in this case, too, you do not cry before people. You have seen a child suddenly stops crying in the midst of intense suffering. We call it “choked in crying”, for the child is unable to endure the violent sorrowful vibrations. You can tolerate a small pain with a smiling face and people cannot detect your hurt. An intense pain stuns you into unconsciousness and then, too, people are not aware of it. You are able to utter pathetic cries of “Ah” and “Oh” only in the intervening state to embellish your plight." (1)

Note: In His above teaching, Baba is guiding us how the range of human perception is very limited. If a vibration is very subtle then we cannot detect it, such as a very quiet noise. And if the vibration is very crude and powerful, such as a temperature of 170 degrees Celsius, then we cannot tolerate it and we will die. In the true sense, the scope of the vibrations which human beings can manage is of a very narrow scope.

There are so many things going on around us; there are all kinds of vibrations that we are completely unaware of. Some things we can detect with scientific instruments but there are countless subtle things going on around that we have no clue about. The irony is that even when sitting in an isolated room a person thinks that, “Nothing is here other than me.” When in truth, so many phenomena are going on all around, wherever you are. Those are extremely subtle vibrations which you can neither see nor hear. That is why it is said that human capacity is very negligible.

Why sleep gives happiness

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Although bodily pleasures are perceived by the mind in the wakeful state, the objects of such pleasures always come from without, with the result that the privations of the external world will always stand in the way of real happiness, as the external world cannot always supply objects in accordance with the desires and wishes of the mind. Due to this the mind has to run up and down in search of them. It becomes very agitated in the process and peace becomes and impossibility. The influence of the external world is absent during the dreamful state, accordingly the amount of pleasure is due to want of efferent desires in the mind or increased organs (for that matter here the desire is not afferent either). In the state of sleep, as the internal activities of the mind are substantially less, the amount of happiness (Static happiness) is proportionately increased." (1)

Backdoor dogma + 4 more

Baba

Backdoor dogma

Namaskar,

Since 1990, there have been innumerable cases wherein margii families have secretly chosen to observe the anniversary of the death of their cherished relative. For instance, if someone dies on July 1st, then the prescribed system as per Caryacarya is to mourn and observe the death for no more than 12 days. That means, by 13 July, all public ceremonies and gatherings related with the mourning of the deceased must be completed.

Annual death ceremony of relatives

But some families are opting to celebrate the death for years and years, by honouring the anniversary of the death each year on July 1. They mark those celebrations by announcing and holding a grand kiirtan gathering, without telling general margiis ahead of time that this is actually a death-day observance. So it is all done surreptitiously. Then once everyone arrives and the program is going on, they are eager to count how many attended so they can brag to their non-margii relatives about how many they fed etc. At the end of the gathering, they distribute food and clothing, and garland the deceased margiis's photo etc. Just as is done in Urs (Islamic annual death ceremony).

To some naive persons this may sound "honourable" or "respectful", but it is 100% against Baba's system. Sadly, nowadays in our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, one dogma is piggy-backing itself on top of an existing one. Specifically, the existing Urs (Islamic annual death ceremony) dogma has been redecorated and given a place in as an annual death day ceremony for Ananda Margiis who have passed away. Some may think this is something glorious, but this runs contrary to Baba's teaching. It is a dogma that must be removed.

What about only 12 day mourning period?

Baba has declared that the period of mourning shall be 12 days - no more.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The period of mourning should not extend beyond twelve days." (1)

To observe an annual death day ceremony is against Guru's guideline and against His wish.

Not pleasing Guru

However, certain families justify that, “When so-called mahaprayan is observed every year as Urs (dogmatic Islamic ceremony) in Tiljala, then why can't we (i.e. the family) observe the death of our dear loved one, each year on the anniversary of his death.”

They innocently think that by honouring the death day annually, they are pleasing both Baba and their deceased relative. But in reality they are satisfying neither. Because (#1) to please Baba one must follow His teachings, and (#2) there is nothing one can do to please a deceased person.

So by observing the annual death day, neither party is pleased. Firstly, Guru is not pleased because the annual death day programme runs contrary to His teachings; secondly, there is no way to please a deceased person as they are beyond pleasure and pain.

Unfortunately people have fallen into this trap of the annual death day ceremony of their relative because that is the prevailing Islamic dogma and that is what certain group leaders have popularised in Ananda Marga. This is the predicament and the new dogma that is growing.

Deception: annual death-day food at dharmacakra

Sometimes, after performing various dogmatic rituals in their home on the anniversary of the death of their loved one / ancestors, they bring a donation basket of food and sweets to the local jagrti and children's home without telling anyone that it is the food of a death day ceremony. Attendees of dharmacakra are not aware of the situation and are thus fed this sinful food. This is the deceptive way some are carrying out the yearly death day ceremony. So beware.
Why do they do this so secretly? Because those hosts know that death day food is forbidden in Ananda Marga so they employ this deceptive tactic. They know that if they openly tell that, “This is a food offering on the annual death day of my father etc,” then margiis will not eat that food. So the family honouring the death day keeps quiet and simply offers the food without telling anyone. In this way, margiis are duped, eat that food, and the family making the offering thinks in their dogmatic way that their forefathers in so-called heaven will get a blessing. But this is their ignorance.

Here we have to remember that in some places like India, people commonly do such things on the death day of their ancestors, and the margiis do not realise what is going on. They just think that person or family is being genuine and generous. They do not suspect that this food is from the sinful annual dogmatic death day ceremony. But unfortunately that is what it is.

Watch out: suddenly became very generous

In that case, in each unit the BP must keep accurate records of who died and when. And if they notice a pattern of food offerings on the annual death day then they must confront the person.

The duty of margiis is to point out and punish those offering and feeding others this type of sinful food at dharmacakra. Because what they are doing is dogmatic, deceptive, manipulative, and harmful. It is just like if someone is secretly lacing your sentient meal with onion, garlic, animal lard, or small pieces of beef. Thus we must not tolerate those who are secretly offering dogmatic death day food (fruit, sweets, feasts etc).

In any unit if it is seen that someone has suddenly become very generous on a particular day, and it becomes known that this is the death day of their ancestors, then everyone must be vigilant to point out that individual and root out that dogma. It should not be allowed to flourish, masked in deception etc. So the duty of the BP is to mark the dates and keep a careful eye.

Ananda Marga Carycarya says, "Shráddhánna: Shráddhánna (food offered at a memorial service) is neither priityanna nor ápadanna, hence it is not to be taken." (2)

MPD copied from Islamic annual Urs

The "founders" of so-called mahaprayan have described the dogmatic MPD program as sad and solemn. By their description it is clear that they just copied the Islamic dogma of annual Urs by doing mass feeding and distributing clothes etc. Below is an excerpt from some of their emails that displays their way of describing the so-called mahaprayan gathering.
PRS Kolkata propagates, "The Solemn Observation...With tears in eyes and hearts full of His memories...The anniversary of Mahaprayan of Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii has been solemnly observed today...where His mortal remains were cremated...Central and global workers first went to His quarters to garland His Pratikrti and did Gurupuja in that vibrating room. Led by Ac. Kinshuk Ranjan Sarkar, all came to Baba's memorial ...There was mass feeding of more than a thousand poor people and about 500 persons were given new clothes...Exactly at 3.30 pm, the Maha Kiirtan.”
Over the years, this is the way or style that B group PRS has announced the gathering. And still this is going on. This same course of events happens in the dogmatic Islamic dogma of annual Urs programs of Ajmer India. So MPD is not some glorious thing invented by certain Dadas, rather the so-called mahaprayan program is just the prevailing dogma that is common in Islam. Baba condemns such antics.

>From top to bottom - the "solemnity" and sadness to food distribution etc - the whole so-called mahaprayan agenda is painted in the colour of the dogmatic Islamic annual death ceremony. For that reason and more, mahaprayan is just one dogma.

in Him,
Shankar Basu

~ In-depth study ~

The Islamic Urs festival is an annual death ceremony held at Ajmer, a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, which commemorates the death anniversary of the Islamic Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti, (founder of the Chishtiya Sufi Islamic order in India). This annual death ceremony ritual is held over six days and features night-long dhikr / zikr qawwali singing. The anniversary is celebrated in the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Thousands of Islamic pilgrims visit the shrine from all over India and abroad.
For deeper understanding about Islamic 700- year old annual death ceremony dogma please see this below link. All should so-called mahaprayan is adopted from this Islamic ritual.

Animals also use herbs

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Since the advent of living beings on this earth, medicines have been used. Dogs, cats, snakes, mongooses-- all animals, in fact all beings-- need some kind of medicine in various conditions. When wild animals become sick, they rub their bodies against certain trees and plants to cure their ailments. This shows that all living beings are more or less acquainted with some types of medicine." (1)

Why you got this body + 2 more

Baba

Why you got this body

Namaskar,

Baba has warned us not to pay attention to occult powers. The goal of life is to realize Parama’tma’ and not the achievement of material pleasures such as money, prestige, power etc. A sadhaka in advanced stages should never develop this feeling of s/he is more knowledgeable than others, or has more power than others. Such type of thinking is dangerous because they are temporary. Someone possesses money, power etc. today but may not have them tomorrow.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

For example one who is a great scholar today may not know a simple thing tomorrow if s/he will have alzheimer’s disease. With such disease the yesterday’s scholar may not even remember own name. Even this body will not remain on this earth or even whoever is present today in this earth, no one will remain after about 100 years.  There will be new human beings who will replace the older ones. It is like a play. In the play there is a stage and many performers. One came sang a song and left, another one came narrated a story and left, another one danced and left. Similar to the play, we are players in the stage of earth. Players come and go, and their nature is transitory. However, the lamp on the stage witnesses everything that happens in the play. Parama’tma’ is the witnessing Entity who observes everything that happens in this creation. The play in the creation is never ending.

Parama’tma’ vs secondary desires

We have a duty to perform in this creation. In the form of human beings we have the potential to utilize our efforts in the right way towards Parama’tma’. If there are obstructions, self desires on the way then they have to be removed. There has to be one and only one desire to realize Parama’tma’, proceed towards Parama’tma’, and merge in Parama’tma’. There should not be any secondary desire. If there are secondary desires, then the secondary desires will be fulfilled and the main desire (i.e. to merge in Parama’tma’) will be forgotten. There are many sadhakas who are responsible for their own downfall because of secondary desires. Secondary desires are like toys that the mother gives to the child not to cry. Occult power is like a toy. Parama’tma’ has a lot of toys to give to sadhakas if they want, but if the sadhaka wants the toy then they will be diverted from the path and will never be able to reach Parama’tma’  as they are satisfied with the toys.

But a true sadhaka wants only Parama’tma’. Such a sadhaka’s life is filled with bliss. Many get human birth, but they live the life of animals before their death. Even there are many people who not only live like animals but even do much harm to others that they even do not deserve another human birth. Whatever samskaras they had before getting birth, they accumulate even more samskaras in this life, and hence will not even born as humans in their next birth. Majority of people fall in this category who do not deserve human birth. There is a minority percentage of people who are humans in this birth, and they are reborn as humans because they did not do so good or so bad in this life. But ones who are doing sadhana if they have secondary desires then they accumulate negative samskaras. If they have desires to accumulate money, then in next birth they may be reborn in a wealthy family and making their chances very low to do sadhana in their next life, hence they have degenerated themselves. There are sadhakas who do sadhana for some time, but they do have secondary desires. They will get secondary desires, but because of that they may do harm to others hence they even downgrade themselves to a position which is lower than where they were prior to doing sadhana.

Conclusion'

So a sadhaka needs knowledge of what one should do and what not. Occult power should never be desired and the thought even not be entertained. It is a trap in the play of this creation. So there is no need to be attached to such things such as money, power or prestige or taking pleasure in self praise. Rather everything belongs to Parama’tma’ and goal of life should be based on Parama’tma’ and not on the self.

Humiliating religions vs discussing them

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Psychological methods will have to be employed to make people realize the irrational nature of blind religious faith. This requires a rational interpretation of philosophy through enlightened intellect. When the human mind is gripped by the fear psychology it gives indulgence to blind faith rather than logic and reason. If human fear is removed through logic and reason, the very basis for blind faith will be weakened. That is why human beings will have to be taught philosophical doctrines in a rational way." (1)

Note: In His above teaching, Baba guides us that it is our duty to expose the inhumane and barbaric rituals of the various religions. This is to be done in a sensitive, psychological, and practical manner. By this way we will be able to logically convince those followers to give up their negative approach and follow the path of dharma.

The questions arises: How can we reconcile a few ideas (a) not hurting their religious sentiment and (b) pointing out their inhumane and barbaric rituals.

Ridiculing them to their face is bad

Hurting the religious sentiments of others means rudely attacking or mocking religious followers to their face. For instance, the dogmatic Hindus worship the monkey Hanuman and the elephant deity. And those followers believe those deities are real and that they get their blessing. Suppose you directly tell them, “You stupid people, do you not have any brain. Is that why you are worshiping a monkey. What you are doing is preposterous.” Then those believers will feel insulted, hurt, and angry. This action goes against the code of Caryacarya, i.e. you are wounding their religious sentiment.

Whereas, if you raise the matter in respectful and psychological manner and carefully explain to them the origin of their worship, they may become curious and wish to know more. In that case you can explain how in the past there was hero worship. To give respect to the clan leader, the idol of the mighty Ganesh was conceived. And since then this tradition started. Hearing this logical analysis, many followers may give up their rituals. But if you mock them they will dig their heels in and cling more to their dogma.

In a rational and just manner, we aim to discuss and review the inhuman rituals of the various religions. There is no mocking or put-downs etc, just open, logical, and respectful debate. This is the way Baba guides us to proceed. So if you politely and courteously point out the religious dogma to those followers, and you carefully watch to see how they are receiving your words, then that is ok and in concert with the guidelines of Ananda Marga ideology. But if you mock and ridicule their religious rituals to their face, and hurt their religious sentiment, that is not approved by Ananda Marga teachings.
