High bar of being teacher + 3 more

Baba
High bar of being teacher

Namaskar,

In Baba's system of tantric education, the teacher’s role is absolutely central to student success. The teacher is highly regarded for their skill and responsibility, and thus must be of impeccable character and exemplary conduct. Remember, the students are not there just to learn a particular course of study or given subject material, but to emulate the teacher’s conduct on all levels of life and become great moralists, sadvipras, and tantrikas in society.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Teachers: supreme character & exemplary conduct

Here, below, are a few of Baba's guidelines which clearly state that teachers must fully exemplify their ideal in their day to day living:

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The first and most important factor is to select teachers carefully. Those who have the required academic qualifications do not have an automatic right to become teachers. Teachers must possess such qualities as strength of character, righteousness, sense of social service, unselfishness, an inspiring personality and leadership. They are the preceptors of society, and that is why it is not possible for everyone to do this job." (1)

By Sadguru Baba’s above guidelines, it is evident that in our tantric system teachers must be strict moralists and sterling examples of AM ideals. These are two of the key components to being a proper teacher. So first and foremost is their character. Then of course they must be knowledgeable about the subject material and have the requisite patience, skill, and insight to impart that knowledge to others. But it all starts with having a teacher who is firmly grounded in yama and niyama and committed to spiritual practices.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Worldly qualifications not enough

In our tantric system of education, mundane educational qualifications and certificates alone are not enough to make one a proper teacher. Rather, ideal conduct is the main criterion. This is the foundation of AM philosophy and our tantric cult, and teachers must be living embodiments of those ideals. So if any teacher exhibits any slackness in this regard they must be rectified at the earliest - such slackness will not be tolerated, what to speak of any type of deviant and derelict behaviour like smoking, drinking, eating meat, and sexual dealings. Such gross contraventions of our moral code may be grounds for immediate termination etc. Here below Baba explains the consequences of indisciplined behaviour on the part of teachers.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “There are also teachers who, after discussing the abuses and evils of intoxicants in the classroom, immediately go outside and start smoking. This sets an extremely bad example. If the teachers would just use intoxicants, without saying anything about them, it might not be so bad. But this approach naturally encourages the students to be undisciplined. They will think that the use of such things must be enjoyable, and that their teachers deprive them so that they can enjoy them alone.” (2)

So regardless of whatever worldly qualification a person has, if their conduct is poor, then in our AM society that person will not be granted a glorified position such as that of teacher. They will first have to rectify their conduct. This is a completely unique aspect of our AM system of education etc, whereas in materialistic societies such a standard is miserably lacking as all sorts of debauched people hold positions of great power and respect.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Tantric measuring rod

In our tantric culture, good conduct is the starting point. Without proper conduct, one cannot move even a single step forward on the path of liberation and service to humanity. Anyone who does not have good conduct cannot be regarded or accepted as a teacher of AM spiritual philosophy or social philosophy. Hence, as Ananda Margiis, we have to follow our tantric philosophy and use that measuring rod to analyze each and every circumstance.

Giving the post of AM teacher to any Shyam or Ram, regardless of their character and conduct, will not bode well. What to speak of not enabling our sublime ideology to be taught in the proper way, there will be controversy and scandal. That is why 'A Guide to Human Conduct', the first book of AM, emphasizes that we are to follow good conduct from the very beginning.

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, "It is therefore emphasized that even before commencing sadhana one must follow moral principles strictly. Those who do not follow this should not follow the path of sadhana; otherwise, they will bring about their own harm and that of others." (3)

And Baba warns us that those whose conduct is not good should not be given positions of leadership.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “Those not established in yama-niyama should not get the opportunity to assume leadership.” (4)

Adherence to moral principles is essential for becoming a teacher in our tantric system of education. Those unable to follow those principles should not be given the distinguished role of teacher. Not only will they harm themselves, they will also be the cause of disaster in society. The foundational point is our tantric culture is based on ideal conduct.

Conclusion

Ultimately, by remaining firm in our tantric traditions of ideal conduct, our AM society will certainly rise up, and our teachers of AM spiritual philosophy or social philosophy will truly be the guiding light for the entire humanity.

In Him,
Srs’t’ikarta’

Unfit to become

Sadly, there are several examples in our AM society where some so-called learned people were given the elevated status of teacher, yet they were clearly unfit for the post due to: (a) extramarital affairs / sexual misconduct; (b) thievery; (c) bribery; (d) debauched habits of any sort etc. In all those cases, there was a horrible fallout.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

So educational qualifications and book knowledge of AM philosophy alone are not sufficient. If in their personal lives, they have any black spot or weakness - or are following a degraded lifestyle - they cannot be a teacher. Indeed, those not of proper character can never lead humanity and should not be allowed to become teachers, as they will ruin themselves and drag society into the depths of darkness.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Those who proceed to build a benevolent society, without having undergone meticulous self-preparation and self-discipline themselves, will bring about not only their own downfall but they will lead the whole of humanity to disaster as well. They will be incapable of implicitly trusting the very people for whom they are to work. At the outset they may exert a little to attain for themselves some requisite qualifications of leadership...[but] their work is doomed to failure in the end if they lack sadhana or spiritual practice." Psychology of abandoning one group & joining another

This below quote is for those Hindus who got frustrated with Hinduism and joined Islam, or any margii / WT who left one group and joined another. To save themselves from jackals, they jumped into the fire. Best is to be a neo-humanist and leave all forms of groupism.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Due to the many shortcomings in one religion and its exploitation of so-called lower caste people, many of these so-called low caste people left that religion and accepted another. When people leave their religion for no significant reason and accept another religion which suffers from ideological vacuum or is even inferior to the religion which they previously followed, they develop hysterical behaviour. They start excessively doing those things which were once prohibited to them by their previous religion. So we find that the person who has converted to another religion takes more beef than a normal member of that religion. This type of behaviour cannot be found in those who had ideologically accepted that religion.” (1)

Why violence in Islam

In the following teaching, Sadguru Baba is indirectly talking about Islam where music, dance, drama and all such forms of artistic expression are not allowed. Due to the prohibition of music etc, strict Islamic followers become severely psychically diseased and ultimately very brutal and cruel. They become absolutely ruthless. So, we should take a lesson from this and encourage aesthetic science wherever we get the opportunity. In result, the finer human senses of love and compassion will develop for fellow human beings, and violence in the society will wane and be completely eradicated. This terror torn earth will become loving, compassionate, and caring.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Humanity, in its all-out quest for this aesthetic science, attained spirituality. One must acknowledge this. Herein lies the excellence of aesthetic science. For this reason, I have given my whole-hearted and explicit support for nandana vijiṋána. You know that there are certain religions [Islam etc] which do not encourage aesthetic pursuits. You will notice that in those religions inertia, inferiority complexes and a sense of violence are predominant.” (1)

Some think that Islam includes those sufis who sing, dance, and play musical instruments, but that is wrong. In the Quran Sharif, songs are forbidden. And strict Islamists treat Sufis as heretics.

Best time to teach dharma + 5 more

Baba
Best time to teach dharma

Namaskar,

Sadguru Baba places great importance on education - and, in particular, imparting neo-humanistic education to children in Ananda Marga primary schools. That is why Baba gives tremendous emphasis to the creation of a maximum number of primary schools. It is not that Baba merely wants us to have more primary schools than high schools. The difference is far greater than that. First, we are to create Ananda Marga primary schools in every village across the entire globe - down to the block level. When that is complete then - and only then - can we consider creating more high schools, colleges, and universities.

Per Sadguru Baba’s direction, the priority lies in the creation of ideal primary schools. That has the greatest impact on the overall development of a person. At a young age children need to be instilled with the values of neo-humanism and that will positively shape their entire life. Remember, every religion indoctrinates innocent young kids into their communal theological preachings. They start at an extremely young age, and that keeps them for the course of their life. That is how they spread their teachings. We should pay heed.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Teaching AM dharma: When kids are young ready to learn

We should not miss the opportunity to instill a neo-humanistic system of education when those kids are young. That will bring monumental yield. If we don’t, our pracara will suffer drastically and the number of margiis and sympathizers will be very low.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “We must start primary schools throughout the entire world to create a spiritual urge amongst the little pupils. I am not in favour of starting colleges; I am in favour of starting primary schools. In the entire world we have got one degree college at Ananda Nagar and thousands of kindergarten schools. That is why it is desirable in the first phase to start many primary schools instead of colleges. Merely opening high schools and colleges without a proper system of education will not serve the purpose. Rather, thousands of kindergarten and primary schools must be started with this new system of education, to create a spiritual urge amongst children throughout the entire world.” (1)

This is the approach to change the society: Impart the teachings of neo-humanism and universal dharma to primary school aged children. At that time their minds are open, flexible, and ready to grasp those teachings.

Whereas it is very difficult, almost impossible, to untrain dogmatic adults and make them into margiis. Young students in our Ananda Marga primary schools will easily become sympathizers and margiis. By this way, so many from the general public will come close. It is through primary schools that the masses can be brought into the fold of Ananda Marga ideology. That is why there is a great need for a maximum number of primary education centers.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ideal formula for creating margiis

As soon as a primary school is created in any locale, that has a big effect on the number of Ananda Margiis in that region. The first generation that the school is in operation the ground is made fertile. Within a few years, those students grow up and become sympathizers and supporters of Ananda Marga - and some try hard to follow Sixteen Points and become bonafide Ananda Margiis. The big change comes in the very next generation. Those kids grow up with parents who are eager for their children to learn dharmic guidelines. And those kids flourish in our Ananda Marga primary schools and readily become Ananda Margiis. They do Ananda Marga pracara, bring their friends, set up clubs, organise community events, and perform social service activities. Following this pattern, in a short while there will be many margiis in that area. This is the formula for creating and generating margiis in regions where people are not inclined to take initiation and enter into Ananda Marga.

The whole family is connected with the small child. When a primary school is started then teachers and administrators invariably become linked with the family and those family members can easily become sympathizers and sometimes margiis too. Remember, the parents are far more involved with the lives of their small kids than with their high school or college-aged children. Parents will drop off and pick up their small children at the school on a daily basis, while over the course of an entire year those parents may never even go once to the high school. So with primary schools, the whole family is involved and that is why the creation of primary schools is very, very important.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

We see these days how kids raised in a materialistic environment are not inclined towards spiritual inquiry and progress. The root cause is a system of education that is matter-centered. So we should be vigilant to build up more and more primary schools as by this way we will create a whole generation of children and adults whose minds are inclined towards proto-psycho spirituality. In that stage they will be ready to learn Ananda Marga philosophy, meditation, neo-humanism, and bhagavad dharma.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Anandeshvar

~ In-depth study ~

Those who scare children are not well-wishers

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The method of extracting work by terrorizing the minds of children is not only made use of by a particular type of teacher, it is also often still more harmfully practised by parents. They frighten their children, tell them lies, engage in scurrilous brawls before them, and deceive and torment them; but they still expect that some day their children will become respectable members of society – that their children will bring glory to their family name. When their children are reluctant to drink milk or sleep, they terrify them by invoking imaginary goblins or frightful ghosts. Children initially have no fear, yet a fearful panorama is played out before them. Through this practice the parents may achieve some temporary gain, but even if the children wait a lifetime, they can never be compensated for the harm done to them. Even when these same children attain young adulthood, the thought of ghosts will not leave their minds – ghosts will become their permanent companions.” (2)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “For this purpose we should have a two-fold approach. For the purpose of training this turbulent mind, what is to be done? One is to get proper education, one is to be imparted with proper education — not general education — in the gospel of, in the idea of Neo-Humanism. This will help human beings in training the mind. And at the same time spiritual practice should go on for proper psychic remoulding. This is what we require most. There is no alternative.” (3)

Baba's order: No co-education after adolescence

Here following in yellow highlight is Baba’s Procedural Order which states that our Ananda Marga schools must not be co-ed once children have reached the age of puberty.

A’NANDA MA’RGA PRACA’RAKA SA’MGHA (Central)
A’NANDA NAGAR
PLO no. 1A/4.2.1969

As per rules, co-education is allowed in our Schools up to Standard V. but boys who are learning in Std. V or below but have crossed twelve years of age will not be permitted to study in any of our lady managed Schools. Similarly girls who are learning in Std. V or below but have crossed 12 years of age, shall not be allowed to study in our Schools (for boys).

Feb 4, 1969

Note: Standard V is the equivalent of 5th grade or 5th class in the western system.

Why the need for gender-separated classrooms once children reach adolescence? This will aid greatly in the transfer of knowledge as students will focus on the lesson and not be diverted towards the opposite sex etc.

Example of worthless teachers

Here Baba guides us that our teachers in our Ananda Marga schools must represent the ideals of neo-humanism; every school must be taught or led by bonafide Ananda Margiis. But these days 50% of teachers in our Ananda Marga schools are non-margiis and about 5% of them smoke. This is a very bad situation.

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, “Speaking of ideals, yet another point comes to my mind, and that is the moral character and conduct of teachers. Many teachers demonstrate a flagrant lack of restraint over their language. There are also teachers who, after discussing the abuses and evils of intoxicants in the classroom, immediately go outside and start smoking. This sets an extremely bad example. If the teachers would just use intoxicants, without saying anything about them, it might not be so bad. But this approach naturally encourages the students to be undisciplined. They will think that the use of such things must be enjoyable, and that their teachers deprive them so that they can enjoy them alone.” (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “It must be the teachers’ responsibility to impart knowledge, teach restraint in social life, and give instruction about all the various aspects of collective endeavour, but the parents will have to take on most of the responsibility for the moral and spiritual education of the child.” (5)

We should enroll our own children in AM schools

Baba verily put His own laokik family members in Ananda Marga schools. His example is enough to show us that this is the way to proceed. When discussing schooling with others then we must recommend our Ananda Marga neo-humanistic system of education. And we should enroll our own children. Other alternative schools do not possess the requisite curriculum, nor all-round qualities of our neo-humanistic educational system. Due to the lack of a proper education, the present society could not develop in the right way.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

We should never be shy to wave the flag of Ananda Marga education. Rather it is our explicit duty to make everybody aware about the beauty and utility of the system of neo-humanistic schools:

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “It is the birthright of everybody to march in this universal march, to move along this path of righteousness. Just show the path to all– just tell them, ‘Oh, human beings, the path is ready for you, you just come!’ Whoever is endowed with a human mind and a human body is entitled to follow this path.” (6)

School with non-margii teachers defeats the purpose

Before 1990, we had only a few high schools approved by Baba - and then after 1990 certain opportunistic and ignorant wts started making many more highs schools relying almost exclusively on non-margii teachers. Verily such high schools sprouted up all over the place like weeds after a rainstorm. But this is not the right approach. Some workers did this for money and glory, and some did this because they did not know Guru’s teaching about the need for maximum primary schools. But here, all should be clear, the way forward is to create more and more primary schools with proper Ananda Margii teachers who can implement a neo-humanistic curriculum. Making a primary school with non-margii teachers defeats the purpose of making a neo-humanistic school.

Workings of avidya

Ananda Marga ideology says, "It is a fact that the force of Avidyá disturbs a spiritualist more than it disturbs an ordinary person. Various situations arise in life such as material difficulties, family unrest, abundant wealth, tremendous reputation, acute financial distress, or extreme humiliation. Sádhakas will have to bravely confront these mundane situations....They must never think in terms of retreat – it would be fatal, for the Avidyá force would stab them as soon as their backs were turned. In all circumstances one must continue the process of sádhaná to gradually enhance one's latent psychic and spiritual power.” (1)

Note: In this world, if you do bad things, then vidya maya will come and try to disturb you. If a new thief tries to commit a robbery, then vidya creates fear in your mind that you will be arrested and sentenced to jail. And if you do good things, then avidya maya will come and disturb you more fiercely. If you do sadhana then avidya maya will become furious and attack you in one or more of the below mentioned ways:
  • material difficulties
  • family unrest
  • abundant wealth
  • tremendous reputation
  • acute financial distress
  • extreme humiliation
The work of avidya is not limited to the above listed points. There are numerous ways in which it can attack you. Avidya maya wants you to give up your sadhana. That is why we see that in the aforesaid situation, 99% margiis run from the field of battle and avidya maya stabs them in the back, i.e. they leave their sadhana. Verily they are defeated by avidya maya.

So the only way is to fight back. If a sadhaka gets a lot of money or prestige, or undergoes acute financial distress, then they should be vigilant and pointedly understand that this is the trap of avidya maya. And they should be more strict in Sixteen Points. But we see before our very eyes that so many sadhakas after facing the above situations become pseudo-margiis or leave the path of Ananda Marga entirely. If you watch carefully, you will see that various people get the Sadguru and the path of tantra only to run away due to material difficulties, family unrest, abundant wealth, tremendous reputation, acute financial distress, or extreme humiliation, as well as other related reasons.

Common point of ignorance

Here following is an English summary of Baba’s teaching from Shabda Cayanika - 10, originally given in Bengali.

When one suddenly finds any jewel - any rare and costly jewel - then immediately they pick it up and keep it close to their breast - leaving everything else behind, forgetting all other things, not even caring about their prestige. As far as possible one then keeps it hidden from others. Among all the jewels, the most precious is Parama Purusa.

Note: The common trait amongst all humans is that they love themselves the most. If they are inside of a burning building then first they will run out to save themselves, and then think about saving others. Even a loving mother who dotes on her small infant will think first about saving her own life. Because people are most protective of their own existence. For them that is most precious. What people fail to realise is that their own unit “I-feeling” is embedded in something greater than themselves. That’s to say, Parama Purusa is their greater self as He has taken His seat deep within their inner “I”. But due to the darkness of avidya maya, people fail to realise this truth. So they run after a plethora of worldly temptations, but never get satisfied. Whereas, the moment they get a small taste of Parama Purusa, then they do not want anything else. When by His grace, the sadhaka becomes fully ensconced in sadhana then they feel fully satiated and do not want anything else. And verily that is why they have been blessed with human life: To do sadhana and attain Him. In that case, no mundane attraction can ever bring satiation. Only the infinite Entity Parama Purusa can satisfy one’s yearning. And verily, Parama Purusa is not far; rather, He is your most precious and nearest One, embedded within. The aspirant should think that, “Parama Purusa is mine and mine alone.” And one should cultivate that feeling in their sadhana and hold Him in a deep embrace. Then one’s life will be successful.

Importance of military

Prout philosophy states, “Everywhere in the manifested or unmanifested universe there is a ceaseless fight going on between Vidyá and Avidyá. For running a government we require strong military and police forces, for in society there is also the fight between Vidyá and Avidyá. Even within one’s self such a fight will continue. Those countries which cry for disarmament are also preparing within for war. Even after the establishment of a universal government we will require military and police forces for maintaining peace.” (1)

Ananda Marga has spread across many different planets

Here below is an English summary of Baba’s above Hindi teaching.

The small nucleus of Ananda Marga dharma which we first started in Jamalpur has extended its circumference far beyond the limited frontiers of that small town, and has now spread not only all over the world, but it has spread across many different planets and still it is spreading and will go on spreading.

Blindness, ignorance, & fear in religious worship

Unfortunately, ignorant, superstitious people cannot see through the fog of avidya maya - and see Parama Purusa. The following is a description about gods & goddesses that are mostly worshipped in Bengal.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In many cases people are devoted to upadevatás out of fear and sometimes they are worshipped in the hopes of obtaining something. Banabibi [The Lady of the Forest] is there to save one from the grasp of the tiger. Besides her, there is Dakśińa Ráya; out of fear of cholera people worship Olái Cańd́ii; out of fear of smallpox they worship Shiitaládevii; out of fear of snakes, Manasá. These are all upadevatás. The women of a household will sometimes worship Lakśmii year-round to bring happiness in the family; Śet́erá as well as Suvacanii is worshipped in the ritual peace ceremony; Śaśt́hii and Niila are worshipped to bring welfare to one’s children; and out of fear of illness Shmashánkálii and Rakśekálii are worshipped. In Sanskrit they are all classified as upadevatás because they are not Parama Puruśa, the object of meditation in the spiritual world. Besides these, there are many other upadevatás such as Mangalacańd́ii, Áshánbibi, Satyapiira, etc. Upadevatás are also called folk [laokik] gods and goddesses. Some of them have dhyána mantras and some do not; some of them also have dhyána mantras in the local or state language and some do not have that either. In many cases the gods and goddesses of the Buddhist and Jain eras came or are coming to be worshipped as upadevatás in the post-Buddhist and post-Jain eras.” (1)

What bhaktas do

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Those spiritual aspirants who follow the paths of knowledge, action and devotion, of course, do not bow their heads to upadevatás. They practise the sádhaná of the singular Parama Puruśa.”
“Some people call ghosts upadevatás out of excessive fear, that is, they accept them as minor gods and goddesses lest they be angered by being called ghosts. In Sanskrit, however, the word upadevatá is not used to mean “ghost” – for ghosts the word apadevatá is used. Upa means “near” and apa means “just opposite”. Apadevatá means “one whose nature is just opposite to that of a god”.” (2)

Note: As every sadhaka knows one may serve Parama Purusa in three realms. Rendering service to society is serving Parama Purusa in the physical sphere. Singing kiirtan is serving Him in the psychic sphere. And dhyana sadhana is serving Him in the spiritual realm.

Qualification to teach others + 3 more

Baba
Qualification to teach others

Namaskar,

Here Baba points out some of the very key elements for leading a spiritual life and being capable of guiding others.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Baba says "A genuine spiritualist will have to establish a relation of love with Parama Purus'a. Those who remain oblivious to this truth become unsuccessful in their mission." (1)

No complexes in spiritual life

Ananda Marga scripture says, "Tasmin ham'so bhrámyate brahmacakre. And what do the rest of the people do? They think that since Parama Puruśa is so vast and so learned, whereas they themselves are foolish and illiterate – insignificant creatures. Thus they increase their radii, their distance from the nucleus. This psychology that Parama Puruśa is too vast and great for the devotees to attain Him is called mahimnabodha, that which keeps them away from Parama Puruśa. Those who consider themselves to be wicked try to go far from Parama Puruśa, thinking that if they remove themselves from Him they will in this way be spared punishment. But the point is, if someone goes some distance from Parama Puruśa, can he or she avoid punishment in this way? No. So it is better to come close to Him and draw His sympathy and love, and thus become pure and holy."

   Prthagátmánam' preritáram'ca matvá.

"There cannot be any complex in the spiritual level or existential sphere. In spirituality there is no complex because every person has contact with Parama Puruśa on a purely personal level. There is no third existence between them. There are only two – the spiritualist and the Parama Pitá [Cosmic Father]. Spiritualists move towards the Cosmic Father and sit on His lap. To do this is every one's birthright. Nobody can be debarred from doing so on the pretext of inferior caste, colour, education or poverty. Since this is every one's birthright there cannot be any complex in the arena of spirituality. The defective social order injects an inferiority complex in the mind which often persists even when people enter the spiritual field. They feel that as the Cosmic Father is so great, how can they, being of low caste or poor or uneducated, go to Him? This is called mahimnabodha in the shástras [scriptures]. But one should not forget that the relation of father and child exists. Even if the father is a great scholar, the uneducated child will go to him and ask for whatever he requires because he or she has affection for the father. Just now I said that in the field of spirituality there cannot be any complex, but there are complexes due to social defects. It is our spiritual duty to rectify the social order. If we fail, there may not be good spiritualists. Even those who have the potentiality to become good spiritualists may not progress. They may be like a flower that dies before it blossoms." (2)

Real yoga: spiritual unification

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The real spiritual unification is defined as Sam'yoga yoga ityuktah jiivátamá Paramátmanah: when the unit consciousness and the Supreme Consciousness are fused into one, that is the real yoga. When does this take place? When the spiritual aspirants establish a relationship of sweet love with Parama Puruśa. In the absence of this sweet and loving relationship, human beings are bound to maintain a distance from Parama Puruśa out of fear. This is called mahimnabodha in the scriptures. "While Parama Puruśa is such a vast and exalted Entity and I am such an insignificant creature, how can I go near Him?" This sort of inferiority complex on the part of a spiritual aspirant is immensely harmful, and spiritual aspirants must be aware of this. I may be a very small creature, and indeed a drop of water is very insignificant in comparison to the vast ocean of water; but although small, that tiny drop of water is inseparably associated with the ocean itself. That drop never thinks that because it is a mere drop, how can it be associated with the great sea. In the same way, the arduous yogic practice of spiritual aspirants becomes meaningless if they fail to establish a sweet relation with Parama Puruśa." (3)

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Kevalá bhakti: When one is identified with the goal there remains only one entity. This is called kevalá bhakti. This category of devotion is not attainable by one's individual effort. One can attain it by the grace of great personalities or Parama Puruśa. This is the highest stage of devotion. In this devotion the sádhaka remains oblivious of the differences and distinctions. This is called mahimna jiṋána. As long as the sense of differentiation will exist, the sádhaka will hesitate to be one with Brahma." (4)

One must know Him within

Taraka Brahma says, "Try, O sa'dhaka, to know only Him, in Whom are held the sky, the world and the void, in whom are ensconced the mind, the five vital forces and the sensory and motor organs. Shun all other pointless considerations except your efforts to know Him. You are mortal, subject to death. Your desire of establishing yourself in deathlessness has been with you from eternity. And that very Brahma is the bridge leading to that state of deathlessness. So you will reap the real good, if you can only know Him." (5)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The Entity whom you are trying to attain – Parama Purus'a – is your own innermost self. Your relation with Him is not external, to be defined by courts, laws, or society. It is a family relationship. The desire in your mind to meet God is only born when He is inclined towards you. It is the result of His desire to meet you. Your meeting with God is not a unilateral affair, it is a mutual thing. You walk one step towards Him and He will come twenty towards you."
"When an infant starts walking, the parent first asks it and goads it to walk a little. It tries to walk, but falls. Then the parent advances and lifts it up onto his or her lap. God does the same. Make the slightest effort, and He will pick you up and place you on His lap."
"Your relation with God is personal. No one can sever this relationship. It is part of your being, your birthright." (6)

In order to teach, one must practice

Although it is a sensitive matter, everyone should be very clear that only those acaryas who are strict and sincere in all lessons of sadhana can teach meditation to others. Failing that, their instructions for dhya'na will be hazy and confusing. Those who do not practice dhya'na in their practical life cannot guide others.

Baba furthermore tells us in different discourses that "A'caran'a't Pa't'hyet Yah Sah A'ca'ryah".

Only those who teach by their conduct are acaryas. If their conduct is not good, then they cannot be treated as acarya. So acarya does not mean the title of acarya or wearing a certain colour of clothing. The critical meaning of acarya is those whose conduct is exemplary.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct. They and their followers must move constantly towards all-round development and shreya [ultimate spiritual attainment]. Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by their own conduct are called ácáryas."
"Bear in mind that people may be harmed or misled by even a small weakness or defect in the conduct of an ácárya. Just as it is the duty of a father to educate his children properly by his good conduct, an ácárya or ácáryá should always instruct by his or her exemplary actions and words."
"In every period of history, some people are heard saying: "Today's society is ruined, the people degenerated. Life was better in the old days." The same view is expressed in every era. Have human beings really lost their humanity? Don't they hold the highest position in the evolution of living things?"
"All the psychological diseases of humanity are the result of not having bhúmadrśt́i (Cosmic outlook) in life. The diseased persons do not consider others, but think only about themselves. They are busy thinking about their own families, employers, etc., and they forget everyone else. This is a terrible malady. But it is a mere expression and symptom of narrow-mindedness, the real root and reason for psychological disease. The cure is to reverse the trend of behaviour to rid the fallen human beings of narrow-mindedness. The medicine is one and only one: Brahmabháva [ideation on Supreme Consciousness]. But just adopting the supreme goal does not immediately establish one in that. It is the work of the ácárya to recognize if a person is on the right or wrong path and course of action. The ácárya should give direction and guidance in every work, big or small. When he or she is to impart any duty to anyone, he should be strict, strong and exact, like a diamond. He or she should never consider social position, wealth, rank, etc. Only those who are established in Yama and Niyama [moral code] and practise sádhaná can be given any responsibility." (7)

What is ekendriya siddhi

Here is an English summary of Baba’s above Hindi teaching where He is giving the following ideas.

Ekendriya: What kind of change comes in the mind after crossing the anahata cakra? When a particular cakra, a particular instinct, a particular indriya, is controlled, but no other instinct, or cakra, or indriya, is controlled – this is called ekendriya; this is the third stage. For example: “He is not greedy at all and never takes a penny as bribe, but he is very short-tempered.” Or, “He is not short-tempered, but very lustful.” That is, there is control of just one instinct, while other instincts are very much active – this is ekendriya. Or, “He does not take bribes, is very gentle, but is arrogant, egoistic, and full of vanity” – you will see this in society. This is ekendriya.

Note: In the stage of ekendriya, the person has one instinct well-controlled, while all of the other indriyas (motor / sensory organs) and / or instincts are not properly controlled. Rather, the person is prone to indulgence in those other arenas.

Fake show of helping others

Note: In Baba’s Hindi teaching from ज़िद चाहिए, Zid Ca'hiye, V24-07, Baba is giving the example of a few hypocritical political leaders. In particular, Baba is recounting the tragedy of the Jamalpur earthquake of 15 January 1934. So many people were buried under the debris and rubble of collapsed houses. Some were dead and some were alive, crying out for help. Sincere local volunteers and neighbors were trying hard to remove the debris and rescue the victims / survivors. In the meantime, a few political leaders came with a cameraman. Those politicians borrowed spades and shovels from volunteers and posed for photos as if they were trying to dig out survivors etc. Immediately after the photo was taken they walked away. That is the eyewitness account Baba is giving in this Hindi teaching.

Only hypocrites make this type of fake show; Ananda Margiis should never conduct themselves in this way. In the life of an Ananda Margii, sincerity is the beginning, sincerity is the middle, and sincerity is the end. The main quality of a sadhaka is sincerity - no hypocrisy.
