Important to avoid this comparison + 2 more

Baba

Important to avoid this comparison

Namaskar,

When some film star heroes wear pseudo-culture fashion, or smoke cigarettes in a special style where they release the smoke toward the sky in round circles, then young impressionable teenagers get attracted. They think that is a grand show and strive to emulate that. Without considering the matter, teenagers in their innocence succumb to those pseudo-culture fashions. While those who are more rational think that is deadly. In consequence good people never engage in competing with others in pseudo-fashions.

Comparing oneself with capitalists in the material sphere is a sort of blindness. Because it is commonly known that those who place too much importance on the physical sphere neglect or lag far behind in psychic or spiritual enhancement. Every sadhaka is aware that human life devoid of spirituality is just animal life.

Exploiting class imposes its values on entire society

In this present era of extreme capitalism, the whole society is running after money and other material possessions. Because the vaeshyas are in power so materialistic aims like money and automobiles etc spell "success". In each and every age, the exploiting class imposes its values on the rest society whereby many people yearn for that "gold standard."

This theory is well known to every sadhaka; even then in our personal day to day affairs one must be careful not to get dragged into that flow. That means as sadhakas one has to exercise great caution when comparing themselves with others. Or, more precisely, one should not fall into the trap of comparing themselves with others exclusively on the point of materialistic gain.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology says, “A person must not suffer from an inferiority complex, because that person and his or her friends and siblings are all the progeny of the same Progenitor.” (1)

The human personality is three-fold: physical, psychic, and spiritual. Those primarily engrossed in materialistic life often possess many things in the mundane realm, yet are bankrupt in the psychic and spiritual realms. Every sadhaka knows the special secret is to gain strength in the psycho-spiritual realm, and not become involved in materialistic over-accumulation. Whereas, many in the general society seek out maximum materialistic gain. So no sadhaka should compare themselves with those materialists on the point of money, material gain, etc. Just as a human should never compare themselves with a horse on the point of running. That would be a bad approach. Here the main idea is that sadhakas should not compete in mundane sphere with non-margiis. Rather one should compete in the realm of human values.

Why we should compare by Ananda Marga standards

Regardless of how much money one has, the common human tendency is to think that others have more, or people think that, "What I have is not enough - I need more." This type of outlook brings about an inferiority complex, especially so when comparing oneself with more material wealth. Then the tendency is to feel dejected. One may even fall into the depths that "Except me, everyone else has a very successful life". Because they have greater material gains such as their property, house, cars, clothes, luxury items etc. This happens to one regardless of how much actual wealth one has. When bound by the materialist mind-set, everyone becomes a beggar - all feel they need more. Their longing is limitless. So as sadhakas we should remember that we should not compete in the mundane sphere with non-margiis. Rather, we should compete in the realm of human values and aim to progress in the psycho-spiritual realm.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In contrast, to compare oneself on the point of one's physical, psychic and spiritual potentialities, then surely as a true Ananda Margii one’s life is far better than those engaged in the ways of materialism. By Baba's grace, true Ananda Margiis have a more sentient mind than materialistic-oriented people. Because the basic aim in life is service - i.e. service to Parama Purusa and service to the society. And every sadhaka always tries to keep away from dogma. So surely sadhakas of the Marga are superior to those capitalists. And it is all due to His grace.

When comparing in the spiritual realm, then the difference is more stark. By Baba's grace, every true aspirant in the Marga is moving on the divine path of tantra sadhana. The Guru is Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, the Taraka Brahma. When He accepts anyone as a disciple, He graces them and teaches them sadhana - in which case mukti (liberation) is guaranteed. So the spiritual life of each and every disciple of Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji is guaranteed success.

Psychic diseases in the west

In many discourses, Baba says that western society is completely imbalanced.

Prout philosophy says, "The West is completely obsessed with physical development...it seems to be the sovereign master of the water, land and air. But for all that, it is not socially content and miserably lacks spiritual wealth. Unlike the East, in the West plenty of wealth has created a crisis." (2)

In the west, so much attention has been placed exclusively on the physical sphere while the psychic and spiritual spheres have been neglected. That's why there is the prevalence of psychic diseases western nations, and wherever materialism reigns. Tragically, in western society, psychic diseases are rampant. What to say about aged people, even kids start suffering from psychic diseases. These days doctors are administering tranquilizing medicines even to young children because they are mentally imbalanced or depressed.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

From kids to senior citizens, a higher percentage of people in materially-engrossed nations suffer from mental tension and psychic disease than amongst people in materially poorer countries.

Overall, the condition of sadhakas all around the globe is far better. Our duty is to show others the right path, not fall into their pit. If one throws themselves in competition in the mundane sphere, then the consequences and resultant will be completely negative. Which is why they are suffering from numerous psychic diseases and complexes. Throwing ourselves into that degenerated way will only invite disaster. So as sadhakas we should not compete in the mundane sphere with non-margiis for materialistic gain. Rather we should compete in the realm of human values.

Conclusion: True sadhakas have noble attributes

Here the central idea is that true Ananda Margiis have all sorts of noble qualities. Then why should any sadhaka feel inferior with others by seeing their money and property? And why should one throw themselves into their flow by competing with them in the mundane sphere only?

Rather one should train the mind to think that, "My path is not only in the physical sphere, but all round, in the physical, psychic, and spiritual spheres." Then surely, one will not suffer from an inferiority complex.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Brahma Prakash

Once during reporting, one Wt saw a monkey, and he thought that is the best life, i.e. living as a monkey and jumping and swinging from one branch to the next. Later on, all-knowing Baba explained to those present that animal life is not good. No human should mistakenly think that animal life is ideal or that they would be happier as a monkey swinging from branch to branch. No one should cultivate such thoughts.

~ In-depth study ~

Right comparison needed

As a sadhaka, one should not compare ourselves with materialistic-minded persons, rather we should always look towards the cherished Goal.

Ananda Vanii states, "Don’t compare life to a pool of muddy, stagnant water. Life resembles an ever-flowing spring. Pushing aside the stones of obstructions and difficulties, marching on with vigorous speed is its Dharma. Hence it is clear that those who want to keep away from obstacles have lost the Dharma of life – verily they are dead. The graveyard, not the society should be their abode. " (3)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "As long as a human being lies inert in staticity, that is, remains engrossed in the worship of mundane things, it is said to be the Kali Yuga of that person’s life." (4)

The futility of worldly life

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The worship of Brahma should be done scrupulously, or else you will later regret and bemoan the futility of your life with the last drop of your tears at your last hour. You should make your life worthwhile through your Sádhaná. How much can your worldly friends and relations do for you? After your death your relatives may perhaps ask, “How much money has he left behind?” Your friends may go to the crematorium and indulge in flattering reminiscences about you. Your husband or wife may cry for you for about ten or twelve days and then regain their normal composure. Your lot will be only a profound sigh – a record of the futility and frustration of your life. So do not waste your time lest you later have to repent." (5)

Going against bhagavata dharma means animal life

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Human beings devoid of bhágavata dharma are just like animals. I have already said that if human beings lack bhágavata dharma they are actually worse than animals. Animals do not have a developed intellect or consciousness; human beings do. If human beings fail to utilize their developed intellect and consciousness, choosing to avoid the pursuit of bhágavata dharma, they are the enemies of humanity and a slur on the human race. Their actions, having no relation to bhágavata dharma, should be considered contrary to humanity and their innate characteristic. Their future is bound to be doomed, like that of a huge tree struck by lightning. The downtrodden masses who long to better themselves should embrace the path of bhágavata dharma. The easiest and most natural way for human civilization and humanity to grow is through bhágavata dharma. There is no other way. Hence, those who sincerely seek the welfare of humanity must uphold bhágavata dharma." (6)

The ideals of healthy competition

So the basic approach is that there should be competition, but not only in physical sphere. For healthy competition there should be physical, psychic, and spiritual competition - all together in a balanced way. And that competition should be based on the sentient ideals of service, sacrifice, and sadhana.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Vanii guides us, “It is action that makes a person great. Be great by your sádhaná, by your service, by your sacrifice.” (7)

By getting Parama Purusa, I have everything

One should always think, "Parama Purusa is mine. So I have everything because the Creator and Controller of the universe is always with me. He always takes care of me. So I am most fortunate in this regard." Everyone should think in this way then naturally any and all complexes will be washed away, by His grace. The main idea is that one should not compare themselves with animals in human form. Our goal is Parama Purusa.

Will you now lie in the corner of your house

Ananda Marga ideology states, "O human beings, you are fortunate. The clarion call of the Universal has reached you. Not only has the call come, but you are hearing it and it is vibrating in every cell of your body. Will you now lie in the corner of your house as an inert being and waste your time by clinging to old skeletons and bemoaning them? The Supreme Being is calling you in the roar of the ocean, in the thunder of the clouds, in the speed of lightning, in the meteor’s flaming fires. Nothing good will come from idleness. Get up and awake the clouded chivalry of your dormant youth. It may be that the path is not strewn with flowers and that inferiority complex will be attempting to hold fast your each advancing step, but even then you have to proceed onwards tearing the shroud of darkness. You will tear the thick darkness of despair as you advance in the racing chariot radiant with the Sun’s brilliance towards the attainment of the Supreme state." (8)

Throw one into the darkness of despondency

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “Whatever is finite is limited by nature. The attraction for finite entities is káma, and the attraction for the Limitless Entity (Brahma) is prema. Those who are preoccupied with preya are guided by the small “I” – their mental expansion remains a far cry. Many so-called scholars are obsessed with their petty prestige, but one day that sense of prestige will crumble into dust. But shreya is infinite. It has no beginning and no end, it is an unbroken flow of pure and serene bliss stretching from beginninglessness to endlessness. This is the Bramha of the sádhaka. People who are under the illusory spell of avidyamáyá leave the benevolent path of shreya and rush headlong towards the deceptively alluring preya. But preya, after giving them only temporary happiness, like a flash of light, will throw them into the darkness of despondency, and they will stand like the scorched shell of a tree struck by lightening in the desert lamenting the endless drought.” (9)

People who accompany you to the burning ground

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Is anybody a bandhu in this world? No, there is none. After death even the people who accompany you to the burning ground return to their respective homes once the cremation is over, they shall not go with you. Hence there is no bandhu in this world. There is only one bandhu and He is Jagat-Bandhu.” (10)

When facing difficult time

Ananda Marga ideology states, “कृष्ण ने कहा—‘दुःखेष्वनुद्विग्नमनाः सुखेषु विगतस्पृहः’ ।” (1)

The basic idea of the above teaching is that a balanced mind is one that is free from both the despair of passing sorrows and the euphoria of fleeting happiness.

How to overcome loss

Note: Here are guidelines and proactive steps for any human being to take who is undergoing a sense of loss - whether it be money, material wealth, social stature, prestige, or any type of misfortune that leaves one in a state of anguish or agony etc.

#1: One should goad the mind away from their sense of loss and direct it towards some type of future engagement. The central idea is not to dwell on the past, i.e. reliving what they lost over and over again. That will only exacerbate and perpetuate the downward cycle. Instead, one should adopt a forward looking approach with attainable, practical short-term goals.

#2: Human beings have been instilled with a great sense of resiliency. Whatever one wishes they can do, and they should engage and work towards a sentient aim and not think about the past.

#3: One should be fully aware - for now and for future problems - that all losses and gains in this relative world are the liila of Parama Purusa. And the pendulum is constantly swinging between loss and gain, and loss (misery) and gain (happiness) - over and over again. No one is ever perpetually happy; nor is anyone ever always sad. So when one is immersed in sorrow then soon the day will come when they are ensconced in joy. This is the ongoing cycle in this worldly sphere.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

#4: In any crucial moment when the mind is sunk in woe and misery, then one should engage in more and more kiirtana and strong sadhana. That means intense mantra japa. Regular sadhana will not work as the mind will drift towards those problems. Rather, one must do pointed japa.

#5: Moreover, one should also take the strong vow to read all AM spiritual books, especially Ananda Vacanamrtam and Subhasita Samgraha. Read the entire series. That will help the mind shift towards a spiritual outlook.

#6: By the above two steps (i.e. #4 & #5), the mind will become more balanced within a few days, and by Baba’s grace one will develop a deep sense of bhakti, in which case one's backward stumbles (i.e. reverse gear) will be transformed into positive, forward movement.

#7: Top of all, this world is jagat and thus constantly undergoing change: Soon the winds will blow in the right direction, wherein a golden future lies on the horizon.

#8: Lastly, for those blessed sadhakas who remain deeply immersed in Brahmabhava, they will ever remain floating in His bliss, wholly unaffected by the highs and lows of this relative world.

Unique aspect of AM

Baba says in an older edition of Caryacarya that Ananda Marga is the path of human beings. The greatest excellence of this Marga is that, after knowing the needs of human beings and understanding their feeling, this "marg" (path) has been propounded. About this, that is the most significant thing. That's all. (1)

Note 1: The above is an English summary of Baba's own handwritten Bengali guideline.

Note 2: Baba’s above teaching is present in many old editions of the Bengali, Hindi, and English versions of Caryacarya - II.

Note 3: In contrast, the various religions are based on a selfish outlook whereby they infuse dogma and exploit followers and the common people.

Note 4: If someone is not aware of some of the rules of our Ananda Marga such as why a particular rule has been formulated then the answer is embedded in seed form in Sadguru Baba’s above guideline. For example, suppose someone does not know why we always wear our pratik on the body 24 hrs per day, or why we repeat Guru puja and samgacchadhvam 3 times and not 2 or 4, the answers of these types of questions are also hidden in the above guideline.

Note 5: In our Ananda Marga nothing is dogmatic, but nowadays a few people are trying hard to establish or implement various dogmas such as: (a)  PP is an angel, (b) so-called mahaprayan, (c) Fake Ananda Vaniis, (d) fake holy lands, (e) tiirthas etc, and other types of things which do not have any logic to stand upon.

Story: how Baba rectified Wt + 4 more

Baba
Story: how Baba rectified Wt

Namaskar,

"After drinking coconut water why did you throw the coconut shell on somebody who was also eating?"  Baba asked one wholetime worker. The Wt was shocked to hear this and wondered, “How could this be?”.

Baba reminded him of the situation: "A few days ago you were drinking coconut water. When you were done, you carelessly threw that heavy green coconut towards the side of the road without looking to see who was there. That heavy coconut fell on one animal that was eating beside the road. But you did not care that the animal was hurt. The animal ran away crying."
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Hearing Baba's narration, the entire scene flashed in the mind of that wt and he felt ashamed for what he had done. Baba rebuked him, and the dada's punishment was to beg apology by touching the feet of all of the wts present. Then he promised never to commit such a sin ever again and to be kind to all creatures.

#1: Must show kindness to all

As sadhakas, we must have love and affection for the entire creation. We should be careful and respectful towards all beings. We must not hurt others, whether they be a human being, animal, or plant.

#2: When one makes a mistake...

When one makes a mistake and feels repentance for their wrongdoing then Baba forgives their mistake because the person understands the problem and will not commit that same wrong in the future.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

But when a person commits a mistake and (a) is unaware about their wrongdoing, or (b) thinks the mistake is justified because "I have a special status", or (c) knows it is wrong but does it anyway as he thinks no one sees or knows about it, then in all those cases Baba will certainly point out, rebuke, or punish that person in order to rectify them. Or, according to cosmic law, they will have to undergo the reaction as per the system of prakrti etc. All of which is for their welfare.

The central idea is that if one has committed a mistake and has repentance then Baba forgives them.

Conclusion

In the above story, the dada was negligent in his dealing with one street animal. In India, street animals are not treated well; many get kicked and pushed around. Thus, the dada's action did not contravene the social norm of the day, but he did fail to live up to our Ananda Marga code of neo-humanism. For that reason, he had to undergo the reaction. Baba pointed out his misdeed and graciously removed that samskara.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

No Ananda Margii can say or think that, "Well, this is done in the general society so I can also do that." This is the wrong outlook. We always have to live up to our AM standard, not any other. This applies to each and every conduct rule and guideline. Otherwise, we will have to undergo the reaction in this very life itself - whereas non-margiis committing those same acts will be reborn again and again - so they will face the reactions slowly over time.

In Him,
Sudeva

~ In-depth study ~

Due course all will have to face the reaction

Generally speaking, if a common person harms others within certain limits then they may not be punished by society; however, they are creating samskaras and in due course will have to face the reaction. So while the society will not hold them accountable, prakrti certainly will. For instance, if a person engages in intense communal hatred when the whole society has racist basic tendencies, then that person will not be punished by society, but that individual will undergo the sufferings of their misdeed of harming others. It is just like when the white slave owners were abusing and torturing blacks in the US, then they were not punished by society because in that era slavery was legal, but certainly those slave masters created negative samskaras and had to undergo the suffering.

Here the point is that even though society deems an action as acceptable, that does not mean one will not have to undergo the reaction to that action. That person will have to face their samskaras for harming others - sooner or later. There is no escape.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

We can also say that Ananda Margiis will experience (or burn) their samskaras far more quickly than non-margiis. Because in this very life every Ananda Margii is going to be granted mukti or moksa, by His grace. So in this life itself every Ananda Margii will have to undergo all their samskaras. Doing sadhana means the fast requital of samskaras.

Sadhaka burn all samskaras in this life

In this single lifetime, every Ananda Margii will exhaust all their samskaras - good and bad. For a sadhaka to plunge into lustful or illicit sexual dealings there is no benefit for humanity. It is purely selfish indulgence. Thus the sadhaka undergoes the negative reaction in the form of disease, or humiliation etc. There is no way to prolong or escape the reaction. Whereas non-margiis will experience the reaction - over time - in due course, over several lifetimes or more.

The point being that Ananda Margiis are the vanguards of a neo-humanistic social order. We have been blessed with all His teachings on dharma. So we cannot just abandon His guidelines and follow common social trends. The consequences for that will have to be experienced. Because in this very life, every Ananda Margii will have to exhaust all their samskaras and get mukti.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Sadhakas undergo reactions quickly

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Reactions in requital to past actions normally occur more in a spiritual aspirant’s life than in an ordinary person’s life. The reason is that when all original actions are surrendered to Brahma, there remain only the reactive actions. The reactions may be good or bad [according to whether they are resultants of good or bad original actions]. But think about how many of the deeds you performed before coming to the path of sádhaná were good and how many were bad. To tell the unpleasant truth, ninety-nine percent of your deeds were bad. Hence it is often the case that sádhakas have to suffer much more from bad reactive momenta than get to enjoy good ones. It can even be said that the more one suffers from reactions, the more one is progressing along the path of sádhaná.”

“Of course, the requital of the reactive momenta may possibly be pleasurable instead of painful; it all depends upon the nature of one’s actions. In either case, the more one surrenders one’s actions to Brahma, the shorter will be the period of requital caused by the reactions. In this case the intensity of the requital will be greater than normal; but this is a good sign, because intense requital means the exhaustion of the requital within a short period.” (1)

Story of untimely death

For instance, if any Ananda Margii (dada, didi or family person) eats meat then they are culpable by our Ananda Marga standards and in addition they will invite all kinds of problems and suffering. Those following a sentient diet will get blood dysentery if they eat tamasik food like meat - and some may even die.

I can never forget the story of Karuna Karan - the brother of Satyam. They lived together next to the Ranchi jagrti. One day, when he was 25 years of age, Karuna Karan attended a marriage reception and feast and he ate meat. In reaction, he suffered from terrible dysentery and ultimately met his tragic and untimely death. Our margii brother experienced the reaction very quickly; in contrast, many non-margiis ate meat at that reception and were just fine. They had to wait to experience the reaction as their progress is very slow and they will be reborn again and again.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Wild dog analogy

The whole situation can be likened to this following analogy. Suppose one dog enters your bedroom and urinates in one bowl or on the bed itself, then you will notice it immediately. But if that same dog urinates outside under the tree, then it will not be evident. Here the point is that if a sentient sadhaka of the Marga indulges in illicit or crude activities, then that will pollute their entire personality. And very quickly they will suffer the reaction. In contrast, if someone living a degrading existence does something bad - or if a drunkard or thug has another drink - then they will certainly have to undergo the reaction, but it may occur over a long period of time - even lifetimes, as they are not on the spiritual path.

Plagiary?

It is the accepted international standard and Baba's system not to copy another's work and publish it in your own way. Baba has given a very strict rule on plagiarism. Why is Baba against plagiarism or stealing someone's work? There are many reasons:

1) It is against the code of asteya (non-stealing).

2) Countless stories of bhaktas need to be published. But some do not want to do the hard work of compiling and writing these stories, so they just steal them from others. But new stories need to be told, otherwise so many unpublished stories of sadhakas will be lost and forgotten forever. So watch out for story thieves, and kindly help them not to steal by posting on social media in their own way. If you want to forward this story then attach the following yellow section with the story:

“Courtesy of unknown bhakta via Ananda Marga Universal (https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/)”

This will be treated as the standard protocol.

Mystery uncovered about epic

Ananda Marga ideology states, "The Kaoravas were also weeping, even Gandhari, for she had lost her beloved hundred sons in the war." (1)

In the Mahabharata epic, there is wide mention of Lady Gandhari's 100 sons. Here is the explanation behind this.

This was the era when kings used to keep many female servants for house chores. In many cases, the king used to sleep with those servants and concubines as well. That led to a plethora of offspring. As Gandhari was a broad-minded and generous lady, she adopted and embraced all those children born in the palace as her own. And all those kids would address her as mother since Gandhari was the queen mother of the palace. And that is the explanation of how Gandharii had 100 sons. No doubt, she had innumerable daughters as well, but they were not counted those days. In this ultra-modern era with the rise of science, one could also have hundreds of children by donating...

Spiritual lethargy

Ananda Marga ideology states, "It has been said earlier that the grace of Parama Puruśa is only showered on devotees. His grace is all that matters. It is true that the people of knowledge (jiṋániis) and the people of action (karmiis) may labour harder, but it is the devotees (bhaktas) alone who attain Parama Puruśa. There are two major obstacles on the path of knowledge: lethargy and vanity. A vain person remains far away from Parama Puruśa. Of all the different types of lethargy, spiritual lethargy is the worst. Spiritual lethargy means not to sit for meditation regularly. Those with spiritual lethargy have time for all other actions, but for spiritual practice there seems to be no time. They say, “It's already late today – I'll do a short meditation right now, and devote more time to sádhaná tomorrow.” They sit attentively inside the cinema hall, but in dharma sádhaná they feel sleepy." Not all can be parents

Prout philosophy states, “Good varieties of seed, fertile land, adequate nourishment, light, air and water are all essential for good reproduction in both the plant and animal kingdoms. In this respect human beings are no different from other creatures. In human society the selection of suitable males and females is desirable for reproduction of a high order. Until human beings are produced in scientific laboratories it will be detrimental to society if this matter is neglected. If people of sublime intelligence and brilliance reproduce more offspring, it will be very beneficial for society. The responsibility for nurturing and bringing up these children will have to be taken by society or the government. Similarly, it will be harmful for society if mentally deficient, naturally delinquent or insane persons produce many children. In fact, society will be benefited by the permanent destruction of their reproductive capacity, providing this does not cause any harmful reaction.” (1)

Note: All of Baba’s teachings on Prout will be implemented in due course. The society requires a certain degree of development in order to be able to implement these ideas properly, with the right spirit.

Take the example of the selecto-electoral system. As you know, Baba does not support the system of democracy. He explains that it is the best of the various systems of societal organization thus far experienced by humanity. But ultimately democracy is foolocracy. The general public does not have the viveka to understand what they need. Look, they have elected people who are demons in human form who only want to implement programs to make the rich richer and exploit the common people. And yet, today is not the time during this communal phase of society's development to implement Baba's selecto electoral system. Now the principle would be abused. Until neohumanism is firmly established, then the selecto-electoral system cannot be implemented.

The same thing is the case with Baba's teachings about reproduction. The teaching is obvious. Tell a farmer he should not care about which seeds he uses for his crop, and he will think it is crazy. Whatever is to be developed in any sphere, can only develop properly if the seed is proper. In India there is a community Bishnoi in Rajasthan. It was long governed by this principle and may still be today. Their guru instructed them in this way, and due to this their society was very healthy. There were competitions for deciding who will be qualified to procreate. Also take the example of the In vitro system. Sperm solicitation functions in a highly selected manner. Not just anyone is requested to donate to the sperm bank.

Ultimately when the society grows and develops, it will embrace Baba's teachings on this point. Just as people have to be qualified to vote -- this is critically important to keep demons from getting leadership posts -- in the same way for the proper development of society, in the future people will have to qualify to be able to procreate. One should not think of Baba's teaching in terms of the narrowminded parameters used to propagate such ideas in the past. It requires a completely different outlook, a neo-humanistic outlook, to be able to understand what Baba is guiding on this point of reproduction. And it is quite natural as well, just like a farmer who selects seeds for planting the crop.

In Him,
Sarvavyapii

Dedicate their all to the thought of the Great - Ananda Vanii #22

“Those who can dedicate their all to the thought of the Great and the inspiration of the Supreme are verily the most heroic. Indeed, they are the virtuous, and they alone are capable of taking human history from darkness to light.”

Note: The above is one of Baba’s original Ananda Vaniis. These original and true Ananda Vaniis are unique, eternal guidelines that stand as complete discourses in and of themselves. They are unlike Fake Ananda Vaniis which are fabricated by most of the groups - H, B etc.

Quiz: every Ananda Margii should know the answer

Intro: Kindly read the below quote from Baba's teachings. At the end of the quote a question has been posed. If your answer to the question is correct then it means you read Baba's books carefully; and, if your answer is wrong or you do not know the answer, then it signifies that you need to pay more attention when reading Guru's teachings. After all, if sadhakas are not diligent in studying Baba's books then who is going to read them - non-margiis?

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Fraudulent philosophies have diverted many people from the path of morality and left them devoid of dharma, addicted to carnal pleasures – infernal creatures. By providing such a distorted interpretation of dharma, they have deliberately prevented people from gaining a correct understanding of dharma, and thus they have betrayed humanity in the most inimical manner." (1)

Quiz: Who is Baba referring to in the above teaching?

Most probably, as an Ananda Margii, you know what the answer is. But if not, or if you want confirmation, then read below for the answer….

Lesbian, gay, & bi-sexuals etc plunged in degrading carnal pleasures

Answer: Here Baba is referring to the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and (LGBT) advocates who preach that sexual engagement is be-all, end-all of life. This teaching also refers to any matter-based approach to life where material indulgence and sensual pleasure are embraced as the defining aspect of happiness and joy in life. All such communities distract people from the true aim of life. Plunged in degrading carnal pleasures, they wholly forget and lose sight of their true calling: To goad the mind towards Parama Purusa.

Parents choose name of newborn + 3 more

Baba

Parents choose name of newborn

Namaskar,

In our Ananda Marga way of life, we spiritualize each and every aspect of our existence - from birth to death: That includes selecting the name of the newborn.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The Naming of and First Feeding of Solid Food to an Infant: When an infant is six months old (or any time between six months and one year of age), at least five members of Ananda Marga will gather together on a convenient day, and the infant will be laid before them. The a'ca'rya/a'...will recite the following verse first..." (1)

In His above guideline, Baba is describing the baby naming ceremony (ja'takarma). A key point is that Wts / acaryas should offer or suggest multiple Saḿskrta names for the baby, along with the meaning, whereby the guardians or parents can select which one they like best. This should be done in a convenient manner in the months or weeks or days before the baby naming ceremony. But the main thing is that the final selection of the baby's name is done by the parents / guardians. The acarya's duty is to provide them with a proper selection of names, accompanied by the meaning.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Should give the family a selection of names

Unfortunately, nowadays, it is quite common for the acarya or Wt to select only one name. And that single name is then presented to the family, with or without the meaning. In that case, the margii parents often feel obligated or compelled to accept that name - and they may not even know what it means. Yet, Baba's guideline is that the immediate family members should always be able to choose a name they like best - based on the suggestions of their acarya. Baba has given a detailed, dynamic system whereby many different names are appropriate for any baby - depending upon the day and time of the child's birth. So there are several options and those acaryas adhering to the system present a wide array of names to the family. Then the family can select the name they prefer.

In contrast, those Wts who are unaware of Baba's system might try and impose one single name as if the acarya's choice is the only option for naming the child. Intentionally or not, the acarya should not take it upon themselves to make the final selection about the name. Those who are reasonable and rational acaryas will always give the family a choice of several names. Throughout that process, the acarya should clearly explain the meaning of the name(s) to the parents so an educated decision can be made by the family. Then the parents will be more inclined to use that name in their day to day life and encourage the child to do the same.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "The Saḿskrta name should be used in all worldly dealings." (2)

The Saḿskrta name given at the time of birth should be what the child is called on a day to day basis. The Saḿskrta name should not be shelved or put in storage, wherein the child is called some silly, worldly nickname instead. This is not the Ananda Marga system. Baba wants the selected Saḿskrta name to be used. And that is most likely to happen when a family fully understands the meaning of that name and its spiritual significance and selects that name for their child. Best is when the Saḿskrta name is highly spiritual in nature and pervasively used in our Ananda Marga scriptures.

Examples of baby naming gone astray

Nowadays, in some aspects of Indian society, it has become the fashion amongst a small percentage of the population to use rare and obscure Samskrta words, and even made-up words as names. But these names are often devoid of any real spiritual meaning. They might select mundane Saḿskrta words meaning bird, chili (as in spicy pepper), seller etc. This is the trend in various states like Gujurat and other places. With the spread of materialism, this bogus approach is on the rise.

In a different section of society, some educated people select rare Saḿskrta words for names - regardless of what the word means. Their intention is to give the baby a unique name which is completely different like Hasanti, meaning laughing or smiling. This is an example of a Saḿskrta verb used as a name. Naming a child Hasanti is highly unusual. It would be similar to an American or westerner naming their child giggling. In our Ananda Marga system, names should be a proper noun with a spiritual meaning.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In certain villages some uneducated people give Saḿskrta names based on plants, spices, or grains etc. And in other places they use names based on dogmatic, mythical gods and goddesses. But again this is approved by Sadguru Baba. The Samskrta names in our Ananda Marga system should be based in bhakti and carry a spiritual meaning - not something mundane or dogmatic. In Bengal they pronounce the words and names differently and thereby distort the original Saḿskrta names. They change Vishvadeva to Bishbadeba, and vivek to bibek, and sanatan to Shanatan. In short they turn v's into b's and the letter "s" into "sh'.

Why the suffix “das” should not be used

Still in other places, they append "das" to their name such as Ram Das, Kabir Das, Krsna Das, Bhagavan Das, Shiva Das etc. In this case, Das is not their family name, but rather an optional name. Often people choose the name of gods and goddess and then add -das. But Das itself means "slave." In our Ananda Marga no one is anybody's slave; hence, Baba has specifically told that the -das suffix should not be used. Rather the suffix deva (devii for females) should be used, as deva means divine.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, "The word deva should be suffixed to the name...the more the usage of deva as a title, the better it is." (3)

Finally, a name should not just be some sound like in western nations - i.e. sounds that have no meaning like Iko or Keedo.

Calculate using tantric calendar - not western calendar

The day of birth (i.e. Mon, Tues, Wed etc) is key in selecting the correct Saḿskrta name. In our Ananda Marga baby-naming system, we follow the tantric calendar. According to the tantric calendar, the new day begins at sunrise and continues until the next sunrise. This is in stark contrast to the western calendar where the new day starts at midnight. This can lead to a lot of confusion if one is not careful.

For instance, suppose a baby is born before sunrise at 4am on Wednesday. But according to our tantric calendar the baby was born on Tuesday because in the tantric calendar it is still Tuesday.

If by mistake an acarya assigns the baby a name based on Wednesday, then the name for the baby will be entirely wrong. That miscalculation completely changes the baby’s name which will ultimately affect which Ista mantra that child gets when it is initiated into tantra sadhana. The entire course of that child’s spiritual existence is flawed. All because at the time of birth they got the wrong day because they followed the western calendar and not the tantric calendar.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

The below rules should be kept in mind:

1. From sunrise until midnight, the day will be the same whether one is referring to the western or tantric calendar.
2. The key difference will be during the hours of midnight and sunrise.
3. So every margii family should be vigilant about the time of the birth and use the tantric system for determining the day of the week.

Alert: The main alertness that is needed is when the baby is born between midnight and sunrise.
  • For example: a baby is born at 2:30am on Sunday morning of the western calendar.
  • Because 2:30am is before sunrise so in the tantric calendar it is still Saturday. So it will be declared that the baby was born at 2:30am on Saturday night.
  • The selection of names for the baby should be based on the tantric calendar, not the western calendar.
  • Every margii family and Wt should be aware about this.

This problem is no problem if everything is working smoothly. Because it is the duty of acaryas to know the proper system and calculate the birth according to the tantric system and then decide the name on that basis. Unfortunately, most of our acaryas are busy in social service and business activities, and they do not have time to read their acarya guidebooks. It is similar to a doctor who has passed his medical examinations, but is just busy selling clothes on the streets all day. Then how can he resolve your medical issues. Bear in mind there are some acaryas who are well versed on these matters. So surely they always present and offer the right names for the newborn. To find that type of acarya you need a special torch.

Baby & paincajanya dogma

Baba says the name of the newborn should be calculated based on the tantrika calendar wherein the new day starts at sunrise. Using this system to determine the proper day, the baby naming will be cent-per-cent accurate.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Unfortunately, there is a misnomer floating around these days. Be aware: When selecting a name for the newborn, some Wts use paincajanya to figure out the day the baby was born. This especially happens in India. But this is absolutely wrong and can lead to choosing the wrong name for the baby. Remember, in some parts of India the sun rises before paincajanya, and in other parts of India the sun rises after paincajanya. So it is wrong to rely on paincajanya for the naming of the baby. Baba’s guideline is very clear: The name of the newborn should be given based on the tantrika calendar wherein the new day starts at sunrise. Then the baby naming will be cent-per-cent accurate.

Ananda Marga ideology guides, “One day in India means sunrise to sunrise. One day in Europe means midnight to midnight. In Europe, the date changes just after midnight, and, in India, the date changes after sunrise.” (4)

Conclusion

The aforementioned circumstances are cases of the baby naming process gone awry. Most are not falling prey to these trends - yet we should all be aware of what is going on and be vigilant to follow the gold-bar standard of Ananda Marga teachings. The name selected for the newborn should be a Saḿskrta name imbibed with a spiritual cum divine meaning. And the parents should have the final say on the selection of the name based on a list of appropriate options presented to them by the acarya.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Depending upon exactly when the baby is born, an entire range of names is available. The exact timing of the birth is also a key aspect in our Ananda Marga system for selecting a name. All in all, the Ananda Marga baby naming system is complete and offers a wide array of selections. So no family should ever think that they have to accept any particular name. Rather they should have a choice from dozens of options given to them by an acarya.

Nobody should feel stuck; if any particular acarya is not being helpful then simply seek help from a different WT or family acarya - or even a senior margii. And the family should make the final selection based on those highly spiritual, Saḿskrta names.

~ In-depth study ~

Why baby cries or laughs without any reason?

When an infant is small they do not feel connected with this world. Their nerves are not developed and their thoughts are mostly related with the memories of their past lives. Baba has described this in an in-depth manner in His discourse: "Cerebral and Extra Cerebral Memory."

Baba tells us that sometimes when an infant of a few months closes its eyes and smiles - and there appears to be no external cause for that smile - the baby is recalling a memory from its past life. Likewise, sometimes a baby is crying and parents cannot figure out what is wrong, then in that circumstance the baby may just be reliving a painful memory from its past life. Similarly, sometimes a toddler says something that appears to be nonsensical to the parents, in that case the young kid may be recalling a scene from its previous life.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Here the point is that up to the age of 5 or so, babies and young kids are not well adjusted with this present world. A newborn needs to be given a name so it has an identity related with its present life. If it does not receive a name in a timely manner, then there is the possibility for a dual-personality to develop. That means although the baby has a new body its mind is more preoccupied with past life experiences.  The child associates more with its past life. If in the past the baby was named Krsna and in this life it has yet to receive a name, then the baby may identify itself more with its previous birth as Krsna. Whereas if the baby quickly receives a name - like Ranjan - for its present life, then the baby will identify more with its present birth. That is why Baba recommends that a name be given within 6 months to help develop a new personality for that new-born. And the baby should be called by that Samskrta name.

About Rgveda

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Although the Rgveda is mainly concerned with hymns, it also contains various tales and anecdotes. While not all of these stories and tales carry equal spiritual value, they are representative of the cultural heritage of those ancient humans. They paint a portrait of the gradual advancement of human thinking and the structure of society. When considered from this point of view, the language, literature and expression of the Rgveda is of special value to the world." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “We can roughly say that civilization first started sprouting after the prehistoric age of the human race, that is, from the days of the first composition of the Rk Veda, about 15,000 years ago. A major change took place during the days of Lord Shiva towards the end of the Rk Vedian period (which lasted 10,000 years). (2)

How imaginary gods and goddesses are created

In India, this is the typical way in which imaginary gods and goddesses are created. When the masses are not well-educated, they are prone to superstition. And when superstition sprouts, imaginary gods and goddesses are created to resolve the issues and problems of the common people. This is the classic formula. All such imaginary gods and goddesses were created in this way: Durga, Sarasvati, Vishnu, Laksmii, Ram, Ganesh, Hanuman, Kali, Surya, Jagannath, etc.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In many cases people are devoted to upadevatás out of fear and sometimes they are worshipped in the hopes of obtaining something. Banabibi [The Lady of the Forest] is there to save one from the grasp of the tiger. Besides her, there is Dakśińa Ráya; out of fear of cholera people worship Olái Cańd́ii; out of fear of smallpox they worship Shiitaládevii; out of fear of snakes, Manasá. These are all upadevatás. The women of a household will sometimes worship Lakśmii year-round to bring happiness in the family; Śet́erá as well as Suvacanii is worshipped in the ritual peace ceremony; Śaśt́hii and Niila are worshipped to bring welfare to one's children; and out of fear of illness Shmashánkálii and Rakśekálii are worshipped. In Sanskrit they are all classified as upadevatás because they are not Parama Puruśa, the object of meditation in the spiritual world. Besides these, there are many other upadevatás such as Mangalacańd́ii, Áshánbibi, Satyapiira, etc. Upadevatás are also called folk [laokik] gods and goddesses. Some of them have dhyána mantras and some do not; some of them also have dhyána mantras in the local or state language and some do not have that either. In many cases the gods and goddesses of the Buddhist and Jain eras came or are coming to be worshipped as upadevatás in the post-Buddhist and post-Jain eras. Those spiritual aspirants who follow the paths of knowledge, action and devotion, of course, do not bow their heads to upadevatás. They practise the sádhaná of the singular Parama Puruśa."
"Some people call ghosts upadevatás out of excessive fear, that is, they accept them as minor gods and goddesses lest they be angered by being called ghosts. In Sanskrit, however, the word upadevatá is not used to mean “ghost” – for ghosts the word apadevatá is used. Upa means “near” and apa means “just opposite”. Apadevatá means “one whose nature is just opposite to that of a god”." (1)
