Proper outlook: not here for long + 2 more

Baba
Proper outlook: not here for long

Namaskar,

Some people become depressed because their own personal appearance has changed; they were very attached with the beauty of their youth and now that is gone so they are mentally disturbed.

Or they become depressed because they loved their house so much and now their house has fallen into decay or they themselves could no longer live in that house, for whatever reason. People do not own their house forever. One day it may be burned to ashes or the owner of the house may die. At some point, there will be separation. In the same way, no one keeps their own physical body forever, and when that day nears they are in psychic turmoil.

Or people become depressed due to a loss in their financial standing or social status. They thought their money and prestige would last forever, and now that has dissipated; so they are in terrible angst over the loss.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Indeed, people become mentally imbalanced due to so much vacillation in the material sphere. Primarily because they were not prepared for their impending loss. Before any natural catastrophe or big storm, the authorities issue warnings so people can be prepared and best handle the situation. Similarly, Ananda Marga philosophy serves notice that this world is transient and one should set their priorities with this truth in mind: Nothing in this world lasts forever. Knowing this, one can plan accordingly and refrain from getting emotionally attached to ephemeral things, and one can care for their body to make it last as long as possible.

Those looking for worldly causes will think that all the aforementioned cases are different. However, from the perspective of the spiritual philosophy of Ananda Marga, all these cases are the same. The root cause is one.

Foolish think they will stay forever

The question becomes: What is the operative factor? What is the real explanation behind such depression, and what is the solution. In His vast body of teachings of Ananda Marga ideology, Baba has pinpointed the problem and given the solution. People become enamoured with various shapes and forms in this mundane world and want to hold onto them forever – they want to keep that expression permanently as is. Alas, it undergoes change, and when it does they become upset, sad, or even extremely distraught and depressed.

A man becomes deeply attached with his cherished house, yet he is not going to live in that house forever. Either his house will come under different ownership or one day he will leave that house. The house may be destroyed by an earthquake or a tornado, or he may become sick and have to leave, or he may die. Inevitably, for one reason or another, he will have to part with that house. When the time of separation comes, he becomes depressed.

The key theme in all these circumstances is that this relative world is constantly undergoing change. People become attracted or enamoured with the way a person or thing is at a particular point in time. They want it to remain like that forever. They view that as their shelter for all-time. So when it inevitably changes, they become sad and depressed; and, sometimes they are so shocked they become senseless.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

One day a sports team or politician is the victor and on top of the world, and the next moment they are miserable, bankrupt, in scandal, or mocked by people all over. That is the nature of this transient world; everything is always undergoing change. But this is not properly understood in materialistic societies. Superficially they may say, “I know it will not be like this forever.” But practically speaking, they plan their life on the idea that things will never change. They become depressed because they want to hold onto or keep their cherished object in a particular moment in time – forever.

This is not just limited to physical objects, but the psychic world as well. Philosophies change; ideas evolve; and people’s conceptions change.

In this world nothing stays

Here below Baba speaks to this entire phenomena of how this relative world constantly undergoes change and that what one likes one day will be gone tomorrow.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Once, in my childhood, I stayed in a village in Bhagalpur district which I grew to love immensely. Forty years after I returned to the village. I looked for my favourite river and ponds but was unable to trace them. Nor could I find the playground or the houses I remembered. And the house we lived in looked so different I hardly recognized it. The river where we bathed and played was unseen for it had changed its course and was flowing about two miles from the village. Naturally I did not feel the same for the village as I had before. Actually I felt bored and left the place soon after. Why did this happen? Because my life and the life of the village were not moving at the same speed. There was a gap between myself and the village. The “good old days” were dead and gone.” (1)

Through His own experience and story, Baba recounts how his cherished childhood memories became crushed by the spell of time. The things He enjoyed as a child were no more. The course of the river was changed and the playground eliminated etc. Such is the plight of everything in this relative world. It changes over time, and, ultimately, one day it is gone entirely from this earth.

You can't keep anything forever

The phenomenon of an avid sports fan becoming hopelessly depressed by watching his team undergo defeat is not a mystery according to the teachings of Ananda Marga spiritual philosophy. If a person is very attached to anything of this relative world then they are bound to undergo the pain of its loss. Because nothing lasts forever; everything undergoes change and nothing can remain with you across time and space – except Parama Purusa.

If one is attached with a sports team, house, spouse, or anything of this mundane world, then they will be met with sorrow. That person wants to hold and keep that object or idea – as is. They want it to remain permanently fixed. That is the slippery slope that they travel. It is just like how stupid people want to stay on the escalator forever.

Such a materialist puts “all their sweets in one basket”, and when that basket itself is subject to decay and destruction, then everything is lost. And that is the cause of their mental angst, sadness, and depression. Only by taking the Supreme as their eternal shelter of life can one escape this cycle or pain and pleasure and experience the boundless bliss of remaining eternally with Him.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Conclusion

Overall, there are three key points to remember.

(a) Some people think that they will keep their worldly possessions and relations forever. So when they lose their beauty, wealth, or spouse etc, they become horribly depressed. That is the condition of materialists.

(b) Then there are those who know that nothing in this world remains forever. They know that everything is changing, and one day everything they have will be gone. They understand that, “Nothing is mine in this world, everything will leave me.” Thinking in this way, they get depressed and feel their life is terrible. Certain religions like Buddhism fall in this category. Because their belief or realisation of God is not dominant, they think that they will lose everything and that life is miserable.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

(c) In Ananda Marga, we know that this material world is ephemeral and constantly undergoing change. Yet side by side, we know that, “Parama Purusa is my eternal Companion and He will be with me all the time - in happiness and sorrow, forever. The Divine Entity Parama Purusa will always be by my side so there is no cause for worry.” So on the path of Ananda Marga, there is no psychic tension or depression. Life is blissful.

Namaskar,
At His lotus feet,
Kevalam

~ In-depth study ~

Baba guides us that we should accept the Divine Entity as the only Goal of life. Everything else crumbles with the passage of time. People age and die; material objects break and get smashed to dust; even intellectual ideas and theories undergo grave distortions. There is veritably nothing in the physical and psychic worlds that can withstand the cruel passage of time.

One can only escape this cycle of temporary gain and loss, of infatuation followed by depression, by taking the Supreme One as their object of ideation. If one lives their life thinking that, “Parama Purusa in the ultimate home and eternal shelter – Only He will always be along with me”, then one can escape the anguish that comes with the vicissitudes of life.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

With whom you live will ultimately desert you

In His next teaching, Baba guides us that whenever the mind becomes associated or attached with relative expression they are bound to suffer from the pangs of gain and ultimately loss.

Mana eva manuśyáńám káránaḿ bandhamokśayoh,
Bandhasya viśayásaungimuktonirviśayaḿ tathá.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The mind is the cause of bondage or liberation of human beings. A person under bondage is attached to a mental or physical object, whereas the liberated one is free from all objects.” If the mind is confined to something physical or psychic it is bound to be assailed by either pleasure or pain – it is inevitable. However hard you may try you can not avoid it, because you are so inseparably bound to your objects.” (2)

Then He clearly guides us that by ideating on the Supreme one will find eternal peace, whereas if one limits the mind to changing physical or psychic pabulum they are bound to be met with disappointment and depression.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

And in His below teaching Baba uses the term speed with regards to relative beings. We can think of it this way. Two people traveling on separate motor-bikes can ride side by side for a short while and communicate back and forth. So long as their speed remains the same or very similar, their communication can continue. But it will not last long. Soon one biker will move ahead and the other biker will fall behind. When that happens they will be physically distant. In that same way, every human being has their own psychic momentum. So long as that momentum is similar to someone else, they can remain close to one another. The moment there is a widening gap in their psychic momentum, their closeness will dissipate. And that invariably happens in this material realm. That is what Baba is warning us about in the below guideline.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “It is also true that you will not remain associated with your object forever because the speed of movement of both cannot be equal forever. The person with whom you live with all the warmth of your life will ultimately desert you – it is a cruel game. Confronted with this grim reality one should be very cautious about selecting one’s goal. One thing is clear – the Supreme Entity alone should be accepted as one’s goal. The question of difference in speed does not arise in the case of Parama Puruśa for He is beyond speed. This is extremely important. When there is the question of speed one either advances or falls behind. Speed differs between those entities which come within the domain of time, space and person. But Parama Puruśa is beyond the relative factors for He is the relative factors (they are embedded in Him) and thus the question of speed does not arise.” (3)

So between two relative beings, the speed always vacillates. That is why it is extremely difficult – nay impossible – for two unit beings to remain close for long. With Parama Purusa, the situation is completely different. He is the Divine One and stands unassailed by all relative factors. So He always remains along with you.

Why sports fans suffer from depression

There was a report about a sports fan who became so distraught after his favourite team lost that he could not go to work or interact in normal social situations. He became so depressed by “his team’s” loss that he could not even sleep, eat, or drink. His mind became fused and frozen; he was utterly in woe and suffered from deep, deep melancholia. Such was his unfortunate fate and horrible condition.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Before going on further, two points should be clarified:

1) This depressed person was not actually on that defeated team. Nor was he present in the arena or stadium when the team lost. Nor were any of his personal friends or family members on the team that lost. Actually, he did not know anyone personally on that team. Not only that, the athletes themselves on that losing team did not become depressed because they lost. Yet this man, who was merely watching the game on TV far, far from the actual venue, suffered from a deep, dark depression because of the team’s loss.

2) This is not an isolated incident. Many avid sports fans suffer from depression when their team loses. This has garnered much attention lately amongst psychologists and doctors. Why do fans become so attached with their team that they become ill and diseased when their team loses.

Not just sports fans, but throughout materialistic societies and communities, there are countless people who fall prey to depression.

For instance, there was a father who had a 5-year-old son whom he loved very much. And the time had come for his son to go off for his schooling; the boy went to stay with his maternal grandmother. After living there and studying for years and years, at the age of 18 returned back to visit father. Seeing his son all grown-up, the father was quite disappointed and upset. He had remembered him as an innocent and sweet 5-year-old and now he was quite different.

Everything will go

People commonly take shelter in mundane things. For instance, a person may be attracted with another’s physical beauty and on that basis they take that person as their spouse. Over time, that beauty wanes, and they get disturbed because what they took as their shelter is now gone. People may deny this in theory, but that is what practically happens. People use relative things like money, prestige, and beauty as their haven on this earth. They latch onto that for their happiness. Yet in time those things erode or vanish entirely, leaving a person mentally ravaged. It happens – people take shelter in mundane, transient things. That is why Baba has given the following warning.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Nothing in this world can be your permanent shelter. If you want permanent shelter, you will have to go beyond the jurisdiction of this expressed world of three fundamental relative factors, and such a transcendent factor is Parama Puruśa. Hence Parama Puruśa is your only shelter. There cannot be any second shelter.” (4)

Here again, Baba points out this same predicament. People grab onto the ephemeral, like money, thinking that will keep them afloat, safe, and joyous, yet that invariably escapes their grasp – sooner or later.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Every entity runs more towards that which is more lasting and secure and which will provide it with greater and longer safety. People run after money because they believe that they can maintain their lives under the shelter of money, that money alone can save them. They do not know that money can provide neither a permanent stability nor securely founded shelter. During the span of one’s life money will come and go several times. At times its glamour will dazzle our eyes and at other times the lack of money will make one cry from hunger. Not only money, but all finite objects have this characteristic. One uses finite objects with the intention of enjoying only one of their portions, then sooner or later the residue will be reached. That which is finite cannot permanently remain the object of your enjoyment or your permanent resort. The existence of all these things is dependent on other things – bounded by the limits of time, place and person.” (5)

Cosmic Entity alone is the basic shelter

In any materialistic outlook, east or west, people base their happiness and safety on the transient: Name, fame, prestige, worldly wealth and beauty etc. And that ultimately leads to a lot of heartache, disappointment and depression. Only by seeing through the sheen of the material and seeking out the Supreme can one find lasting happiness and peace.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, “The minds of some people remain absorbed in the thought of money for a long time. They surrender the fragrance of their lives at the altar of money. Others treat the achievement of fame or having a child as the principal object of their lives. They do not hesitate to lay down their life to have a son or to achieve fame. When the mind cannot enjoy a particular object for a long period, or enjoys it hurriedly, then such an experience is called a painful experience or pain. For example you cannot look at a decomposed corpse for a long time. Similarly, after a brief talk you will dispose as quickly as possible of a person who causes you pain.”
“Therefore, whether an object is pleasant or painful, its finiteness cannot be your permanent object. You and that object are bound to separate. The mind is needed for one’s preservation and for its own preservation the mind needs a safe shelter, as can hold it throughout eternity. Human beings always crave for a safe shelter. Is it not so? Will you build your house on quicksand? No, you will construct your house on the firm foundation of solid earth…”
“This Cosmic Entity alone is the basic shelter of the human beings. It is a strong foundation which shall not, at any time forsake them leaving him forlorn. In this very Cosmic shelter you can establish yourself fearlessly for all time to come.” (6)

Why active twenty-five year old becomes infirm

Here below Baba colourfully describes the temporary nature of this expressed universe, and how things come and got from this earth. Thus, when everything is temporary and constantly undergoing change, one should not take shelter in these ephemeral expressions.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “This quinquelemental universe is a relative truth, a changing reality, a passing phenomenon – a passing flow of constantly changing events. It rests on the three pillars of the relative factors – time, space and person. Space is always changing. It is composed of countless atoms and molecules. With the change in the movement of atoms and molecules, space also changes. That is why numerous rich and beautiful cities of the past are now buried under the earth. Many splendid palaces and mansions, many churches, temples, mosques and synagogues, and many pyramids have been reduced to rubble. With the constant change in the flow of time, how many major changes have occurred in the universe? Similarly, with the change in time and space, people also change. A small two-year old child becomes a smart and active twenty-five year old youth. And the same energetic youth becomes an infirm, inactive, old person in due course. Thus, nothing in this universe is permanent. Many gigantic animals in the past have become totally extinct from the surface of the earth. Royal pomp and opulence, the pride of power, the vast knowledge of mighty scholars have become things of the past, thrown into the dustbin of history. Many objects emerged in the past, remained on earth for a short time, and then disappeared according to the inexorable law of nature.” (7)

In culmination, Sadguru Baba guides us to spend all their energies and potentiality in linking with the Eternal Divine Entity – Parama Purusa.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The only eternal truth is Parama Puruśa. He is anadi, beginningless, endless, all-pervasive; an entity beyond the scope of time, place and person. He is the only eternal, undecaying, imperishable, immutable entity. He is the Supreme Source from which the inanimate, plant and animal worlds have emerged. He is the starting-point and the culminating point of everything. Hence, wise people should utilize their physical, psychic and spiritual power to realize that Supreme Omni-Telepathic Entity to become one with Him.” (8)

Carry out their duties in His shelter

Next Baba guides us how we should live in this world and what should be our outlook.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In the material world human beings should carry out their duties without being bound by the binding fetters. The mind should not get helplessly attached to anything undesirable, otherwise it will have to undergo severe afflictions. The wise person carries out his or her duties in the world without getting attached to anything. One should always remember,”

Thákbo ná bhái thákbo ná keu, thábená bhái kichu,
Ei ánande yáore chale káler pichu pichu.

[In this world no one is immortal
Nothing is permanent.
Knowing this Supreme Truth, march on,
Happily following the footprints of time.]

Áj tomáder yeman jánchi temni jánte jánte,
Tvaráy yena sakal jáná yáy jiivaner pránte;
Ei ye neshá láglo cokhe ei t́ukui ye chot́e,
Amni yena samay ámár váki ná ray mot́e;
Jiṋáner cakśu! Svarge giye yáy yadi yák khuli,
Martte yena ná bheuṋge yáy mithye Máyáguli.

Always remember that you have to discharge your duties while remaining fully aware of your Supreme goal. As I already mentioned the philosophy which is accepted as infallible today will be rejected through logical argumentation tomorrow. The vast structure based on that irrational philosophy will crumble like a house of cards. No intellectual notion should be accepted as the Supreme goal of life.” (9)

Definition of whistleblower

Those who fight against injustice should have this quality:

Yadi tor dák shuńe keu ná áse;
Tave eklá cala re...

[If none to my call pays heed, Then alone must I proceed.]

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Keeping this refrain in mind, they [writers] must continue in their relentless effort to fight against the seemingly indomitable might of hundreds and thousands of obstacles which are deeply rooted in age-old superstitions that are firmly entrenched in petty selfishness. Their pens may break into pieces, their brushes may be compelled to draw only lines of water on the canvas, and their histrionic flows may end in mute protests, yet their efforts must continue unceasingly. Each of their petty defeats shall be strung together as pearls in the garland of victory." (1)

Every sadhaka should do this

Here following is an English summary or gist of Baba’s teaching in Hindi:

The first stage is overcoming the small 'I'. After rising above the small 'I' to some extent, in the second stage, humans should fight against their mental defects. For example, if one is afflicted by some kind of superiority complex, or inferiority complex, one has to combat that.  Some may be afflicted with attachment (moha). One is to fight against all types of mental defects in the second stage. Humans may possess some will power to fight against these psychic deficiencies but that alone is not enough. One needs to constantly make endeavor to overcome the mental defects. This requires additional strength or power which comes from Parama Purusa's grace alone. Sa'dhana' does not provide us with anything. All sa'dhana' does is facilitate the grace of Parama Purusa. So, one is to ask Parama Purusa for the power to fight against their mental defects. One should earnestly say, "Parama Purusa, I would like to march towards You but I do not have strength in my knees. Please provide me energy and I'll walk towards You.” (1) (English summary of original Hindi DMC 31 May 1987 Ananda Nagar)

Our eating policy

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The human body is constituted of innumerable living cells. These cells develop and grow with the help of similar living entities. The nature of your living cells will be formed in accordance with the type of food you take. Ultimately all these together will affect your mind to some extent. If the cells of the human body grow on rotten and bad-smelling food, or on the fresh flesh of animals in which mean tendencies predominate, it is but natural that the mind will have a tendency of meanness. The policy of eating, without due consideration, whatever is available cannot be supported in any case, even though there may not be any question of hiḿsá or ahiḿsá. It should not be your policy to do what you wish. You must perform actions after due thought.” (1)

Note: The types of food you eat affects the mind. If one eats animal flesh, cells are formed in their body from that flesh and those cells have mind. Suppose you ate animal flesh then perhaps one million cells took birth in your body from that flesh food. Those cells have protozoic mind, and that protozoic mind will affect the metazoic mind, and that metazoic mind will in turn affect the human mind. In result that human mind will become tamask and it will move towards animality, i.e. towards sleep or sex, or other degrading tendencies etc. In that case, sadhana will be difficult. That is why sadhakas do not eat animal flesh.

How to become omniscient

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “On the practical level, what happens is that the unconscious mind is all-pervading, integral and immeasurably vast. Through spiritual practices the riches of the unconscious mind are brought down into the subconscious mind. The spiritual aspirant then understands everything; he discovers the secret signs of knowledge. Then, according to his or her needs, he or she is able to bring this acquired wealth of the subconscious mind into the conscious mind and use it in the external world.”
“How much can book knowledge help a person! It goes in one ear and out the other. If, by means of sádhaná [spiritual practices], a person can bring into the subconscious mind the boundless knowledge that resides in the unconscious mind, then that becomes transformed into lasting riches which then are, or can be, employed extensively for the welfare of humanity.” (1)

Why guarantee maximum amenities for all

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "If the common people and the meritorious people are treated as the same, the capable people will not be encouraged to develop their higher potentiality. This is the reason why the brain drain is happening in India. When talented people leave India, they leave it for good. Providing special amenities for those with special capabilities will stop the brain drain."

"PROUT's approach is to guarantee the minimum requirements for all, guarantee maximum amenities for all and guarantee special amenities for people with special capabilities. This approach will ensure ever increasing acceleration in the socio-economic sphere. The question of retardation does not arise; even the question of maintaining speed does not arise. There must be acceleration."

"Acceleration is the spirit of life, the spirit of existence, the spirit of the existential faculty. One may not be a genius, one may simply be a member of the ordinary public, and not properly accepted or respected by all, but even then one will get the minimum requirements and maximum amenities in an ever increasing manner according to the environmental conditions concerned, according to the demands of the day."

"So what is the significance of this new approach?"

"1) Minimum requirements are to be guaranteed to all."

"2) Special amenities are to be guaranteed to capable people. Special amenities are for people of special calibre as per the environmental condition of the particular age." (1)

Ista: eternal shelter + 4 more

Baba
Ista: eternal shelter

Namaskar,

Bhagavad dharma should always be followed, and Sixteen Points is the base of bhagavad dharma. Within Sixteen Points, there are three basic categories: physical, psychic, and psycho-spiritual. And the point of Ista is point #10.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga Caryacarya says, “Observe non-compromising strictness and faith regarding the sanctity of the Iśt́a (Goal).” (1)

In tragedy when you are helpless then

Some do not know what is meant by strictness in Ista or why it is included in Sixteen points. By the following mundane example it will be clear. Suppose you want to travel by spaceship. Then you have to trust that spaceship. Without trust, you will not board that spaceship. And without getting on board, you will not reach your destination.

In a similar way, on the journey along the spiritual path, the sadhaka is helpless and in the dark. The sadhaka does not know what to do. Faith in Ista is needed because only Ista will help all the time, in all circumstances—during times of trouble and happiness.

Our Guru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji is all-powerful, but those who do not have strictness and faith fail to realise this supreme truth. Yet, strictness and faith is the very beginning first step on the path of spirituality. Various analogies and examples have been given in this letter to clarify the meaning of strictness in Ista.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Money, wealth, position, and power have hardly any strength—they are just very limited. For instance, suppose you are flying in a plane and the plane becomes inoperable, then what can money or your friendship with the president do? In that case, Ista is needed. Here is another example. Suppose you were sleeping in your bedroom and in the middle of the night a thief comes and puts a gun to your head. Then nothing will help you besides Ista. And in a flash flood with your car barreling down a river uncontrollably, nothing can save you but Ista. In life, so many circumstances render people utterly helpless.

Then there are times when people choose the wrong option and destroy their life. Then Ista is needed in a flash to grab them, avert danger, and save them from serious catastrophe and impending doom. Bhaktas see and realise Ista’s presence before, during, and / or after the incident. They think, “Some bigger power is helping me.” And this is not some theoretical concept only. It exists in the practical sphere. The Supreme Entity Ista is with you wherever you go. Your money, wealth, and power will not be there. But Ista will help you.

Example: 3rd class bhakta who has no Ista

Here below Baba is clearly depicting how one dogmatic worshiper prays to multiple gods and goddesses. Such an aspirant or bhakta is extremely weak on the point of Ista.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology states, "He would say, “O, gods and goddesses, please forgive me if I have omitted any name inadvertently. Please assume that I have mentioned your name also.” Does this yield anything at all? One says “victory to mother Káli of Kálighát” and in the same breath one says “victory to mother Káli of T́han T́haniá.” It signifies that the mind is moving both towards Kálighát and T́han T́haniá. Can the mind become concentrated in this way? Certainly not." (2)

Story: jumping from a minaret

Baba recounts this following story about firm faith in Ista in His Ananda Vacanamrtam series (Hindi). Once two sadhakas were arguing over whose God was more powerful. Mr. Y claimed Krsna, and Mr. Z claimed Rama. Their debate became more heated, each unwilling to forgo any ground. To settle the dispute they embarked in a challenge. They decided to both jump from a very high point, the top of a minaret, i.e. the peak of a very tall spire.

So they both climbed to the very top. It was a very long way down to the ground. It was impossible for any person to survive the fall on their own merit. The grace of God was needed. Mr. Y stood at the very top and jumped. Throughout his free fall to the ground his mind was firmly focused on Krsna. And he survived the fall without any injury. Seeing this Mr. Z was deeply impressed and thought, "Krsna must indeed be very powerful."
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Mr. Z then jumped. At first he was repeating “Rama, Rama, Rama”. Then midway through the jump, he suffered from doubt and lacked faith in Rama so he began repeating, Krsna, Krsna, Krsna. When he hit the ground he died instantaneously. Baba uses this mythological tale and example to show that if one is fully focused in Ista then victory is certain. Then one will be saved in all circumstances. Whereas if one harbours any doubt in Ista, then they will never reach the goal; they will never get success. For each and every Ananda Margii, one must have non-compromising strictness and faith regarding the sanctity of Ista, i.e. Parama Purusa Baba. That is point #10 of Sixteen Points.

The overall teaching from this story is for every sadhaka to be very strict on the point of Ista.

Learn from mythological bhakta Hanuman

In multiple discourses, Baba tells the story of the mythological bhakta Hanuman who would only worship Rama—not any other entity. When in problem, Hanuman could have repeated the names of so many other gods like Narayan, Krsna, Shiva, Vishnu etc, but he only repeated the name of Rama—not any other. In the same way, a sadhaka of Ananda Marga should only repeat and call the name of Sadguru Baba and Baba alone. That is what is meant by strictness in Ista, i.e. never waver in one's faith towards the Parama Purusa, Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Once upon a time some of the devotees asked Hanuman, “Hanuman, you are a great devotee and learned scholar also, and you know that Náráyańa means Shriinátha, (Shrii means, Lakśmii) Shriinátha means Náráyańa. Shriinátha, i.e. Lakśmiinátha, Náráyańa and Jánakiinátha i.e. Ráma are the same entity; but you never take the name of Náráyańa. Why?”"

Hanuman said:

“Shriináthe, Jánakiinathe Cábhedah Paramátmani
Tathápi mama Sarvasvah Rámah Kamalalocanah.”

"You know fundamentally there is no difference between Náráyáńa and Ráma. Nára means Prakrti, Ayana means Shelter. Náráyańa means Shelter of Prakrti i.e. Cognitive Puruśa and Ráma, (Ram + Ghaun = Ráma) i.e. the most attractive entity of the entire cosmos is Parama Puruśa. “I also know”, said Hanuman, “that there is no fundamental difference between Ráma and Náráyańa, but you know my goal is a singular entity – singular in name, singular in idea, ideology and ideation. Ráma is my everything, I don’t know any Náráyańa.”" (3)

The overall teaching from this story is for every sadhaka to be very strict on the point of Ista.

If no intense bhakti for Iśt́a, life is dry

Strictness in Ista—firm faith in the Divine Entity—brings tremendous strength and courage. Those lacking in this regard cannot achieve anything meaningful in life.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "They will have to become dedicated to their Iśt́a; they will have to establish a relationship of exclusive devotion to Iśt́a. If there is not intense attachment to one’s Iśt́a in one’s heart, then one cannot do anything." (4)

If you want to become powerful

Here Baba guides us that those who are strict in Ista gain more and more courage—such bhaktas are assured victory, always.
http://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga ideology says, “One should remember that courage comes according to power; in other words courage and power come together. A man who is powerless is also a coward. To establish yourself in the ideology you need two things. One is courage. So if you want to become powerful, you need not only ideology but also “Iśt́a.” Even for courage and efforts, you need the help of the Lord." (5)

Conclusion

There is a dogmatic proverb in India—in the kingdom of god there is delay but no injustice. But those who are bhaktas realise that there is no delay. When turning on an electrical switch there is a minute, imperceptible delay before the electricity comes on. But bhaktas know that there is not even that fraction of a delay in the case of the grace of Parama Purusa. Something happens and then instantaneously the trouble is gone or someone will rush up to help you. Instant—not a fraction of a second delay. It is His unfathomable grace.

So always He is there helping you and you may not feel but if one does sadhana then one will start feeling all those things that are going on around you. And by this way life becomes without any worry. Without that life is riddled with psychic problems and tension. So strictness and faith in Ista is very important.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Mainjusa’

Ananda Marga ideology states, "A person whom I was very close to, a relative of mine, used to recite the following after taking bath: “Victory to mother Káli, victory, victory to Káli, victory to mother Káli of T́han T́haniá, victory to mother Káli of Dakśińeshvar, victory to Bábá Táraknáth, victory to Bábá Vaidyanath of Deoghar. O, Fathers! None of you should think that I am leaving out someone's name.” After this he would say, “O, gods and goddesses, please forgive me if I have omitted any name inadvertently. Certainly not." (6)

Filling the heart

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Tomáre bhúle bhesechi akúle, karuńá karo he krpá nidhán..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2206)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, remaining forgetful about You, my whole existence is floating aimlessly without any spiritual goal. Sometimes I think I have to get this mundane object or that material gain. By this way, my whole life is getting wasted. O' Karuńá-Personified, please bestow Your compassion and mercy upon me. Kindly save me from avidya maya. My days pass in meaningless or negative pursuits. I remain oblivious of the krpa’ which You have showered upon me. You have granted me a human body and mind, but I could not use these precious gifts to do sadhana.

O' Parama Purusa, You have sent me here on this earth to do Your work: sadhana, seva, and sacrifice. I have come here to fulfill Your desire, follow Your command, execute Your task, serve everyone, and fill this world with colour and beauty. You have given me the duty to bring happiness in the lives of all living beings, after wiping away their tears, and filling everyone's heart with bliss.

Baba, there is still some time remaining before I die. If I get a wee-bit of Your grace then what cannot happen. Everything is possible. My only request is that You bless me with Your varabhaya mudra. With that strength I can go on completing all Your allotted tasks. I can continue singing Your song and spreading Your glory always, serving all with the ideation of Narayana...

Solution to living in His liila

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "If the actors in that drama think: “I am merely playing a part,” “I am only acting” they will never be disturbed by undue pain or pleasure. Those who play the role of Sah jahan shout, jump or try to escape from prison. But the persons playing the part of Sájáhán know very well that they are only acting in a drama. They know that after having played their role they will go home and eat rice and curry. But on this universal stage, however, those people, those jiivas, who act in the drama, forget that they are mere actors, that their real home is elsewhere, that this universe is only a stage – a platform and that they will go home and eat rice and curry. While taking part in the drama they think that they are actually the characters of the drama – the real Sájáhán. And as a result they either suffer from too much pain or enjoy too much pleasure. Sometimes out of too much joy they lose their equilibrium – their common sense. In Bengali parlance it is said that when people are puffed up with pride they spurn the world. But why does this happen? It happens because the jiivas forget they are playing a role, acting in a drama. In a drama some play a tragic role – others a joyful role. If those who are sádhakas are constantly aware that they are merely playing a role as an actor, they will never be overcome by sorrow or overwhelmed with joy."
"Before the creation of this universe, Parama Puruśa was in His Nityánanda stance – He was enjoying Himself. He was overwhelmed with His own ánanda. After the creation of the universe, He had His Nityánanda and also His Liilánanda. To play with lesser jiivas is His Liilánanda. Now the jiṋániis and the karmiis will declare – “Oh, what a terrible game, what a terrible liilánanda our Parama Puruśa is playing with us: He enjoys His liilánanda but we can hardly tolerate it any more. We have to earn a living and buy a house – there are so many problems to face in life. Yet He is playing His game of joy and sorrow with us.”" (1)

Dietary causes of TB & leucoderma

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, "If any person is long habituated to eating badly-combined foods, such as meat, fish, eggs and similar támasika foods immediately before or after milk, kśiira [a kind of rice pudding] and similar sáttvika foods, then those foods create a favourable condition in the body for tuberculosis.” (1)

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments says, “Constipating foods should be strictly avoided. Foods which increase the amount of pitta should also be rejected. Fish, meat, eggs, ghee and large quantities of spices usually weaken the liver and bring about constipation, which is one of the causes of leucoderma. In this disease fish and other non-vegetarian foods are very harmful, hence they are to be avoided like poison. No matter how great is the desire for non-vegetarian dishes, patients shall have to control that desire. Leafy vegetables such as heleiṋcá, gimá, ámarula, bráhmii, etc., are most beneficial for leucoderma patients." (2)

Selfish love

Baba says, "Suppose you rear hens, you feed them rice and of course you love them also. If someone takes one of your hens, you will fall out with him, and even come to blows. But it is that out of selfless love? Love must be untarnished and free from the least bit of selfishness. You feed the hens for your benefit; you are motivated by the thought that one day the hen will lay eggs and you will earn money by selling them. "Nija sukha la'gi ye kare pirite se ja'ni garala kha'ye" -- One who loves others for self-interest, swallows poison." (1)

Note: Everyone knows that this above teaching from Baba is the idea of 2nd lesson. But whether one follows or not one should ask oneself, and try to perfect it.
